Avis sur Kabuto Restaurant Alameda
Best Japanese in SF. I lived in Japan for 6 years and…I’m impressed! Fish is clean…soba legit…freshwater eel outstanding. Give it a try!
I personally think their Omakase sushi is one of the best in SF. It's not one of the fancy restaurants you would find in Fi-di, but the food is truly the best. Something unique about the seasoning that they use. The quality, quantity and the combination of flavor is one of a kind. One of my favorite restaurants in SF!
Kabuto is our favorite Japanese restaurant in SF: the food (especially the fish!) is very high quality, the staff are friendly and accommodating, and the atmosphere / vibe is cozy and welcoming - overall, a very friendly neighborhood hangout kind of spot. Their omakase is also the best omakase deal in the city - great value for a very reasonable price.
We absolutely love Kabuto. The fish are always very fresh. Try their specialty sushi. You will love them. We have been going there regularly for the past 15 years and we are happy every time.
This is my go to spot when I want to impress my friends who are visiting SF. I ONLY order form their Signature menu and the specials board. Definitely recommend: 1849 Oysters Foie Gras Sushi (if its not banned) Toro Tartar Ceviche Sushi Toro Caviar Sushi Kobe Berry Sushi Live Scallop You can thank me later...... :)
This was one of the best sushi experiences of my life. The flavor pairings are off the charts: Hamachi and Pear, Lamb and Apple with cherry balsamic sauce, and the lobster with whatever magic they put in that Kabuto sauce... It truly took me to another plane of existence for a good while. If you want to impress for a date, this is more than one step above your average sushi bar. This is legendary.
Some of the best sushi I’ve had in SF! Love the unique twist with dishes like ceviche and tuna tartare (we ordered a second ceviche after tasting our first order!). Everyone the Kabuto was extremely friendly and kind. We had our four month old with us and they went out of their way to accommodate us and keep her entertained. Definitely give this place a visit if you’re in SF!
I love Kabuto. To call it a sushi restaurant does not do it justice! Yes, they have sushi/sashimi/etc., but they make a lovely range of creative and delicious small plates which are just splendid. All ingredients are fresh, the fish is perfect, but way beyond that, the flavors are imaginative and the presentation is beautiful. Go here! If you can manage to get there for lunch on a weekday when they are open, you will have a more tranquil experience. The service is low-key and smooth. I could go right back for that king salmon tartare on crispy rice!
Came here with a group of nine people. Had a 7:30p reservation on a Wednesday night and they had a large table ready for us. Staff was very attentive and helpful, both with setting up the table (soy sauce, wasabi, ginger) as we arrived and promptly taking drink orders. Waitress was helpful in selecting rolls and gave good recommendations. Food was served out promptly and one order at a time. This allowed us to both understand what we were eating, and appreciate the high quality flavors. As each new dish arrived, the previous plates were quickly removed. It made for a very enjoyable dining experience. It was a bit of a hike from downtown SF, but worth the trip.
How this isn't the most popular sushi restaurant in the Bay Area is beyond me. Seriously. This is not your standard fare. Their specialty menu is just that... very special. Everything is a very delicate recipe of pairings that enhance flavor of their incredible cuts of fish. The use very tasteful balances of oils, sauces, pastes, fruit, etc. to create tastes you'd never imagined. Great for date nights where you want to share an experience. And we've been going to 10 years... always the same constant quality. And the service is phenomenal and friendly.
Kabuto compares favorably to some of the finest sushi restaurants in America. In fact, given the choice between places like 69 Leonard or Nakiji or even Sushisay I would choose Kabuto. It’s a family run restaurant where the focus is the sushi not the pretentious space ship Kyoto temple discotheque decor that so many spots strive for these days. I moved out of SF years ago but I make sure that when I visit I stop at Kabuto.
I wish I could give more stars! The service was amazing- reminded me of Japan, so hospitable. The sushi was amazing- so fresh and the rice was prepared perfectly. We had hot tea- it was also extremely delicious. 🤤
This place is absolutely incredible. I moved to LA and the #1 thing I miss about SF is Kabuto. It’s always my first stop when I’m back in SF and it just keeps getting better. The freshest fish with the most special creative combinations of flavor and texture that elevate a simple nigiri into something you won’t stop remembering and craving. To really appreciate their speciality I suggest going hard on the special nigiris- Escolar salsa, ceviche, hamachi pear, tuna tartare, you won’t be disappointed. Also love ocean trout and ikura. It honestly deserves way more buzz than it gets but consider that lucky for you since it’s always easy to get a reservation!
This my favorite sushi restaurant outside of Japan. There are some great sushi experiences in the Bay Area, but here are the reasons I keep coming back to Kabuto: 1. It's first and foremost a neighborhood restaurant. While the fish is elevated and sublime, you see lots of families here and locals stopping in to grab a seat at the sushi bar. It reminds me of favorite places in Tokyo. 2. You can get all your standard rolls here and they are excellent versions of your go-to orders at your local place. 4. The Omakase menu is sensational. The new version of the menu offers many more nigiri choices than the old one (though I miss the inclusion of the ceviche and hamachi pear in this update). The only thing I did not enjoy was the wagyu dumpling. 5. The staff is friendly and attentive. The only issue o have with service is the restaurant can get loud at times and the servers can be quiet, so it can be hard to hear the description of what they are bringing you. In all, my favorite sushi in the Bay Area!
I have come here over 100 times, and consistently Eric is innovating. After having lived in SF for 15+ years I have tried every sushi place from Robin to Ebisu to the best in Japan town. There’s no better place than this for sushi in San Francisco. You’ll never have to wait to get in, it’s priced incredibly reasonably (homemade wagyu dumpling is like $7), and everyone is so welcoming. If great food at a killer price is your metric, this place is unbeatable.
I can't recommend their omakase enough. Each and every piece/dish that we were served throughout the 18-course meal was such a delight. Beautiful presentation, great attention to detail and high quality ingredients. We were lucky enough to be served by Chef Eric, who gave us detailed explanations of the fish we were about to eat and how it was prepared. It was great chatting with him throughout the meal. Chef Eric and the rest of the Kabuto staff are very welcoming and friendly. Can't wait to be back again!
What a gem! The sushi is incredible and the prices are great. Creative, flavorful and fun! Very grateful to have found this wonderful sushi spot. Service is fast and friendly. Highly recommend ✨
Kabuto is the best sushi restaurant in San Francisco. Hands down a great hidden gem! I was recommended to go here and was so impressed with the complex flavors. I highly recommend the Hamachi Pear, Ceviche, and Spicy Tuna roll. I’ll be thinking of these flavors for a long time!
Great news - Kabuto is still awesome! This used to be my favorite sushi place in SF about a decade ago. My gluttony has since expanded its scope (hahaha), but sometimes you CAN go home again. I was shocked that Eric Cho (the owner), who doesn't seem to have aged a day, recognized me. We ordered the Omakase because it's only $99 here and I trust the chefs to serve their best fish of the day. One of the things I've always loved about Kabuto is that this place was serving up interesting fusion sushi at a time when other places were merely branching out into "specialty" rolls. Well, the current menu did not disappoint! I'm dropping some photos below of our favorite dishes (like the waguy dumpling with ankimo and caviar or the truffle ankimo caviar toro nigiri) and already looking forward to coming back.
Came here on Christmas Eve as all the other higher end, top rated sushi restaurants were booked up. This neighborhood favorite did not disappoint! Excellent selection of fresh fish and most importantly excellent service…the waitress was able to suggest many different options for dietary restrictions like vegan, vegetarian, etc.
Exceptional sushi and sashimi, my husband has been coming for years as a local and we came back on our visit for what he promised as one of the best sushi! Everything we had was amazing, the delicate mouthfuls with truffle and gold leaf were incredible. Highly recommend! Wish we weren’t living on the other side of the world.
This is a hidden gem. Tiny hole in the wall with the best signature sushi 🍣 and hospitality. I recommend ordering from their signature menu.
Delicious sushi and very creative combinations! We especially loved the waguy dumplings and albacore salad. Salmon and tuna options were super fresh and tasty.
Easy 5 for us. The restaurant is small and unassuming but don’t let that deter you. We both went for the prix fixe 3 course omakase $98 per person. Everything was done well and was beyond the basics. Wasabi was fresh (not the chopped roots though);miso soup included clam, shrimp head, and veggies; and the fish was all fresh and flavorful. They also included other items like uni, oyster, wagyu, and toro. The level of service here matches the food as well. The staff was very attentive and prompt. They also walk you through the food and how to eat it. While they do have tap to pay, Apple Pay doesn’t seem to be supported so make sure you bring a physical credit card!
Holy cow their food is AMAZING. DELICIOUS and high quality. Beautifully garnished. We ate a lot, everything was awesome. Perfect combinations of flavors. The servers and chefs cared a lot about our experience. Service was attentive and thoughtful. One of the best sushi spots we've been to. Outperforms the market for value received. We'll be back ❤️
Great sushi and nigiri … so fresh and good amount
Omakase is the move here. Let the chef take you on a journey. Worth every penny. Look at the toro truffle caviar sushi. Decadent!!!
I had a wonderful dinner here. The nigiri and rolls were delicious and perfectly paced.
Sashimi had an amazing taste and quality. They have a roll called 16-20 kiss, which was absolutely delicious!
Just go and eat delicious food now! Been going here since they moved in. This place is great. Great! Great! Every time. I don't usually give 5 stars. This is why, places that are just that far above and consistent every time. Thank you Kabuto.
Absolutely delicious. We ordered so many different things but everything was insanely delicious. The sushi was some of the best I’ve ever had and a happy surprise was the udon. Everything was a hit
Stumbled into Kabuto, very nice surprise with their specialty sushi. Each piece of sushi was beautifully executed in balance of taste and presentation, toro tartar, hamachi pear, foie gras, spider roll, toro truffle caviar, all excellent! Will be back for more.

A good sushi place with a rotating seasonal selection of uncommon fish. The fish is fresh, the price reasonable and the sake selection is good. Service is a bit slow though when we were there. It took about an hour for 7 types of nigiri to be served. Seems like the chefs were overwhelmed with orders even when the restaurant is just full, not packed.
You simply cannot beat the value at Kabuto. The price top quality ratio is insane as the fish is so fresh, beautifully/thoughtfully presented. It's definitely an authentic experience through and through. It's a small mom and pop shop, so best to make reservations! They are so sweet and kind here.

This is strictly for omakase review 6/10 for omakase Fish could be fresher , flavors are good but the oyster is horrible combination with uni and sauce in it. Rice is kinda dry For $99 plus tax it’s not really worth it Maybe try other dish here could be good Karage and agadashi tofu pretty good
The service was excellent and there were definitely some highlights: The oyster uni shooter was on point as well as the uni maguro and the tempura was nicely fried. The fish quality is definitely on point... But the one biggest problem I had with the food was the RICE. It was hard and not at all the quality of rice I would want in a sushi restaurant. Having paid what we ended up paying, I was very dissatisfied with the texture of the rice. To me, rice is 75% of the sushi and it was not up to par.

We tried 7 different positions and everything was so bad, especially sushi tartar with apple
