Recensioni di Gilman Brewing Company Berkeley
Gilman is a solid spot for Detroit style pizza & some brews. There is covered & uncovered seating outside & some indoor seating. Dogs are welcome inside & out. The pepperoni pizza is terrific—crispy pepperoni on top & crispy edge pieces. Reminds me of Prince Street Pizza in NYC. Several solid brew options, too. Multiple solid, juicy hazy IPA. Will be coming back.
I had a very enjoyable time at the Gilman Brewing Company. I drank mainly saisons. I enjoyed the vintage car show at Gears & Beers. The food from the food truck and also in-house tacos were excellent. Parking was easy to find and tables to drink and eat at were plentiful. They offer a good menu of beers and there is a gift store to purchase apparel and growlers to-go.
We come to Gilman often to hang out and love it, but we recently had our wedding at Gilman's 920 space in August and it was absolutely perfect. We were looking for something casual but nice for ~80 guests and the space was more than enough for all of us, a dance floor, a photobooth and more. Extra shoutout to Micheal who coordinated with us for probably over a year as we navigated the challenges of COVID, coordinated vendor requests (e.g number of tables, arrival times, feasibility of different arrangements). They were so responsive and kind and helpful. The day-of was all we hoped it would be. We had come by earlier to pick out the beers which was the best kind of tasting. And then we brought in wine, had a caterer for food, had a DJ, and brought in a couple extra tables to supplement the ones they had. There was fridge space so we could store the cake. Bathrooms easily accessible. We were able to lift the doors to provide a larger direct entrance to the space and for the extra airflow. We received so much help and support from ("Can we have a churro truck?" to "Can we hang decorative umbrellas?") All of our questions were always answered quickly and empathetically. Pricing was always super transparent and fair. We really could not have asked for a better venue experience. If you're considering having your event at Gilman, this is your sign to do it!
1st thing, their pizza they do now is one of the best pizzas I've had. Only had one of them so far but I will be returning to try them all that's for sure. 2nd the beer was delicious and vibes were good. 10/10 recommend this place
Don’t let the Hot Trash IPA deter you from order this! The sandwiches offered are also amazing and the bar tender accommodated for my allergies, ensuring I had a great time while visiting. Loved the atmosphere, delicious beer, and overall a great time. 5/5 would go again
Friendly staff and the order came out super quick. I had the Pilsner and my husband had the Guava Sour. For food we did the Cubano and the Grilled Cheese. Beers and sandwiches were very tasty.
Great beer and ambiance. They also have food, but we didn't try any because we had eaten previously, but they had tacos 🌮 and they seemed good. I also like the indoor and outdoor seating options.
Great beer at a good price, friendly service, plenty of seating, including a dog friendly patio. When I visited with a friend and dog, there was also a Chicken Dumpling Co. food truck that was so good! These vendors went above and beyond and gave me a welcome treat at the end of a challenging day.
Great brews with prominent showing of IPAs. Nice outdoor and indoor seating options. Dog friendly patio.
The Cuban sandwich was good, and the beer was great. A lot of 4.0+ beers on tap for sure. The online ordering system works well and staff were friendly.
Substance over style – i.e., amazing beer! (4/5 green stars) I think I’ve tried a good percentage of the breweries in the Berkeley-Oakland area. Gilman is now a firm favorite (along with Hoi Polloi and the Torpedo room). While nearby Fieldwork has a pretty seating area, Gilman definitely ranks significantly higher in my book for the beer itself (and friendliness). There’s an emphasis on saisons, farmhouse ales, stouts and the use of fruit, chili, chocolate and some alternative yeasts (like Brettanomyces and saison yeast). Food trucks on weekends, restaurant in the works, and outside food welcome. I liked everything we tried, but especially the Cheval de Fer (dry-hopped Belgian saison) and the Champ Rochaux (saison with nectarines). Going back soon – there’s a Groupon available now too! I’m also giving them 4/5 “green stars” for social and environmental impact, based on these reasons: • Beer is brewed on site, reducing the carbon and material footprints (transportation and packaging). • I believe they’ll fill growlers and crowlers to-go, again reducing packaging. • You can bring your own food (Whole Foods is across the street), thereby accommodating all diets. • Close to public transport. • They have (or had) a promotion where for every pint of Cheval de Fer bought, $1 is donated to ALS research. • I didn’t find out that much about their ingredients yet – will update if I do.
Surprisingly good beer and food. The beer flavors are well developed and we particularly enjoyed the raisins. When it's cold out the tasting room can be a bit chilly so dress with that in mind.
Excellent selection of craft beer. Outside and inside seating with an upstairs area.
Found out about this brewery while at the SF Beer Week Gala event last Friday, so my wife and I did just that today. Outstanding brewery from the moment you walk in to the moment you leave. The beer selection is vast and delicious (actually had an IPA that I enjoyed, more of a Pilsner guy). The Detroit style pizza was amazing, my wife and I split the half Pepperoni Pizza (which comes in a full too, but for a snack the two slices were perfect size). Merchandise wise is great, good selection of shirts, a hoodie and a tacker. The atmosphere is laid back, music was at a nice volume and overall was just a nice place to go have a beer and chat with your significant other or friends. Shoutout to Andrea who was so nice to both my wife and I who had never been to the brewery before. Amazing brewery if you're in Berkeley, highly recommend.

Bad tattoo beer + Green Goddess pizza (w/o arugula) is a lit combo! 🔥
I don’t think the garlic fries should look like this. Just some garlic on top of fries, not tossed or nothing. Beer is good but kitchen is not up to the same standard.
Love the drinks and garlic fries, hubby didnt care for the brussel.sprout, not cooked all the way and dry. But recommend the pineapple sour and the Gilman!
Solid beer and great pizza by Joyride. Heads up that there's a 4.9% service charge, so plan your tip accordingly.
Love gilman’s programming and beer. Their menu (and hours sometimes) are not available online. I wish they consistently had a vegan option. The Joyride pizza before was fantastic, and now they don’t have anything vegan sadly
Possibly the best food vibe of the thee in the area given Detroit Style Pizza offerings. Brewers are caught in a paradigm of skill that is not to the level of Great Notion nor Fieldwork. Love the community of consumption and will quaff more and more onsite—glad your here just up your skills per batch.

The good: • Delicious pear cider, and they let you try two samples before choosing. • The Mexican lager was a unique and enjoyable drink. • Great toppings and flavor on the Green Goddess pizza. • Lots of open-air seating, which makes it a great spot on a summer day. The not-so-good: • Our server wasn’t very helpful at first when suggesting beers, though he warmed up later. • The pizza crust didn’t really feel Detroit-style—very soft and spongy everywhere except the edges. • My husband’s pepperoni pizza tasted a bit bland. Overall not a place I would want to return to for the food but just might for the drinks.
Went here for the first time with a friend from out of town, and it was the last time. The man taking orders was great at describing each of the beers on the menu, but wasn't super friendly. We got a flight, but it seemed like some of the beers tasted similar to others so we couldn't really tell them apart. In the middle of our conversation, we hear a leaf blower power up, and the server was blowing a single leaf out of the main room. Everyone had to stop their conversations because the blower was so loud. An hour before closing, we got the feeling that we should scoot out the door, like we were overstaying our welcome. There are other Breweries that are more welcoming, so we'll head to those.
Haven't been here since they made the pizza smaller.... came back and the bartender on monday nights was literally just trying to go home, got there at 7pm, we tried to get food at 8:04 after having a beer and he said kitchen was closed at 8 and we couldn't order food, also that we couldn't order food from outside. Very rude. He had everything clean outside just when we got there, no water no trash cans, also kept coming out to check if we were done or not. Saw people coming after 8:15, at least 4 people, all turned away. Closing time is 9pm. Not coming back again.... Gilman, you were good... not coming back again, thank you. Plenty of options around, Trummer, fieldwork, cellarmaker... bummer...
