Cosa dicono i clienti di Sushi Kuchi
Sushi Kuchi in Carlsbad is a popular spot known for its delicious sushi and friendly service, especially from staff like Sarah. Customers rave about the 50% off sushi roll deal. Some find the flavor muted or certain rolls (Dragon, Yaki Udon) disappointing.

I've been to multiple Sushi Kuchi restaurants in the area and this is by far the best one! My wife and I always come back to this one and it's worth the wait. The food is very fresh and flavorful as opposed to the others which were mostly stale and dull. They are very generous with the amount and their ingredients and it really feels like you got what you paid for and more.
This spot is absolutely lovely. Service was lightning fast. We ordered veggie tempura, a caterpillar roll and a Star wars roll, and some assorted nigiri. The tempura was everything we wanted, beautifully crispy and a good variety. The rolls were also yummy, but the nigiri was absolutely spectacular. Really top of my list. Can't wait to visit again.
The place is always busy this keeps everything super fresh. Each plate of sushi is unique in flavor. If you have ever had sushi were they all have a common flavor you know what I'm talking about. The patio dining with coastal breeze makes the meal very enjoyable. We take our friends there.
It was my first time here and I just want to say that the staff was amazing the sushi rules were very well put together taste very wonderful and they had a very fast service I have to admit I was in love. Like I said it was out of the blue and I highly recommend this place if you're looking for a good place for sushi!
Wow, amazing rolls and friendly service. Even though the restaurant was near capacity we were seated right away and the food came out in a better-than-expected amount of time. We had the California Beach Roll (my new favorite) and the Awesome Roll. Can’t wait to come back!
Some of the best sushi around! Always fresh, delicious, and very fairly priced. Service is always dynamite and I love sitting outside on the patio. They do have heaters for when it gets colder at night. We always go for birthdays and when we have visitors from out of town.
Great spot to get some sushi at while in Carlsbad. Good prices and great food. Service is always great and price is right. Would definitely recommend trying. Tiger roll and Star Wars rolls are awesome!
Amazing Sushi and fabulous service. If you're celebrating a birthday Tell them. We had do much fun!
This place is awesome. Great food, CleanG good sushi chefs.
The sushi chefs were amazing to watch. Very skilled and extremely quick. The servers were very unorganized and it was hard to tell who our server actually was. Reasonably busy at the time, so can give a little grace there, but I suspect the service is like that all the time. Not bad, just unorganized and no one in real control or managing the flow. All in all though, would still go back and try again.
Wonderful hidden gem! The wait staff was exceptional and the preparation was fast! They accommodated our requests for no sauces without any issue! The variety of rolls was perfect! We really enjoyed our visit and highly recommend to everyone!
I stopped by here during a work trip and was met with ultimate warmth and kindness from Emi! She is very hospitable, helped me navigate my way around my first time in San Diego. I had a free refill for my hot green tea, I had the sake sashimi which came in generous portions and a really nice bowl of soft tofu stew, which is exactly the kind of comfort I was looking for after a 5 hour journey. Highly recommend!
This sushi place is hands-down my family's favorite go-to dinner and lunch spot. The service is AMAZING and Emy is always so helpful and sweet. HIGHLY recommend! We dined here for Mother's Day dinner, and they brought all the moms a free sweet treat, making the dinner SO magical. =D
Food was tasty. Service was quick and friendly. Prices were in line with other sushi places - not cheap, but not expensive. We went during lunch and we were in and out pretty quick.
This is our go-to sushi place in town! The food and atmosphere are always incredible Best rainbow roll in the county 👌
I love sushi kuchi. Been eating here for years, a staple in Poinsettia village. Best birthday song by any restaurant, hands down! Not fancy but so good. Never had a bad experience here, dining in and take out are both excellent. Good variety of veggie options - I used to eat fish but I continue to eat here as a vegetarian now.
One of the best sushi places around Carlsbad. Very lively ambient, most of the time busy, popular, fun. Stop by and try if you like sushi and you are nearby.
Food definitely makes up for it. The green mussels and Tuna Tataki roll add jalapenos; always 10/10.
Great friendly service and yummy sushi!
Absolutely in love with this place. Always good food, reasonable price, amazing staff with a great sense of humor. Hot sake is great for the cold evening outdoors dine in. Also, caterpillar and rainbow roll are delicious. Definitely will be coming back over and over.
My sister placed an order for the two of us through doordash but sadly the delivery driver cancelled. I called to see why and the lovely lady who responded said that the driver picked up the food and then cancelled on us. We were scammed by our delivery driver on doordash. The restaurant quickly dissolved the issue and we were able to get the food. The experience through the restaurant was amazing and the food is great. Messed up on the delivery drivers part but the staff here are worth coming to this place, aside from the delicious sushi.
Great sushi. The server was super nice and professional
Ordered the Alaskan Roll for pick up. Excellent online ordering system with easy payment (and flexible options). I was concerned that the salmon would be smoked (I’m not a fan of the smoked variety), so I made a note about it. They prepared my order perfectly and included a note, “Not smoked… enjoy!” They even included the extra ginger I requested. Easy pick up and the sushi roll was excellent and very tasty! When I went inside to pick up my order, it was packed and the energy in the room was very happy and warm. Highly recommend this place!
Great dinner at sushi much! Sarah was amazing and great service. Food was exceptional! Thank you.
Stopped in for lunch while on vacation. Ordered several rolls and the fried calamari appetizer. Fish quality was amazing and the rolls were very well prepared. The calamari was very well cooked. Only thing wrong with the order was the one fried roll that we had was overcooked but other than that everything was great, food was prepared quickly and the staff were kind.
Great menu. They seem to always have 50% off, but the rolls are high quality and decently priced. It’s a breath of fresh air in this area to have nice decent prices. Service is quick, and food comes out quick too.
We've been looking for a good sushi spot around north county for a while now and have been constantly disappointed. This spot finally was a success with great rolls and no imitation crab in everything. Got the Lips, Dragon, Bad Boy rolls and some nigiri. All were perfect. Definitely will be saving thos spot for the future!
Caterpillar roll was great, we didn't like Dragon roll because seaweed smelled weird. Mango Roll (fancy Salmon Roll) was very good but a little spicy, Salmon Roll was tiny and nothing special. Sesame Chicken was perfect but the cabbage with it was useless. Yaki Udon was bad and tasteless. Bulgogi beef was great!
First off this place was definitely a bit pricey for sushi 🍣 But other than that the food was delicious and the service was great! Got the gyoza, sashimi, and 4 rolls DELICIOUS! 😋 The food didn't come out all at once so you had time to eat, but it came out quick enough so you didn't sit around waiting. Overall if your looking for somewhere to get a quick bit of sushi definitely recommend.
Yummy food. We’ve come here frequently over the last couple of years, and the food is consistently good. The presentation of the rolls are lovely. We’ve ordered different rolls over the years, and they’ve all been delicious. This time, we ordered a beef teriyaki bento box, a tiger roll, a shrimp crunch roll, and a protein roll. All great. The staff was very attentive and friend, just like they always are. The outdoor area is the spacious and has awnings to keep us in the shade. The outdoor patio is dog-friendly, and the staff even brought out a water bowl for our pup! We didn’t even have to ask! Super thoughtful of them!
A must try sushi spot in the Carlsbad area! We came here for dinner on a weeknight and it was still buzzing with activity! The menu has a wide variety of options - there’s half price sushi rolls, some unique sushi rolls and the usual teriyaki bowls etc. The jalapeño stuffed roll was yummy! But I would order it as an app for the table. You can’t eat so much fried sushi by yourself:-) They also gave a good collection of sake and beer from Okinawa. We ordered Orion and it was a perfect pairing with the sushi.
The sushi here was oh so good. Not only were the ingredients fresh and the portion sizes ample, but the sushi rolls were a visual treat to behold. The 50% off menu made it affordable for the whole group to enjoy one of our favorite meals. I've included photos of my order. A friend brought the whole gang here for his birthday. I will definitely be returning to this restaurant when I come back to San Diego.
We were just visiting in the area and thought we could use a sushi that night. Food came out as expected. Almost all food we ordered came out great Yellowtail girll was the queen but took longer than I thought. It came out after my tummy was half-way full. Carpacio was great. Baked scallop was okay, it's impressive display with 🔥 tho. Definitely a great service and ambience. Friendly servers.
Some of the best sushi around. The prices here are unbeatable most dishes are always 50% off. This has to be one of the best places to go in Carlsbad if you have a birthday the experience is amazing. In my opinion the best roll is the Star Wars roll it tastes delicious so so good. Th staff here is always very friendly and the store is always busy and often full. Highly recommend if you are looking for sushi in the area.
Get the spicy edamame. The ramen is like top ramen, dont get it. The sushi is overpriced to make it look like 50 percent off is a good deal.
Food is good. Not amazing but better then most sushi in North County for sure. I felt my tempura wasn't cooked quite enough. A little chewy. Otherwise super for supper.
Stopped by for late lunch. Typical Japanese food but has Korean menu, bibimbab.
Decent sushi for the suburbs. I love the crispy rice with spicy tuna! The rolls are good though a little small, especially the yellowtail. But overall, not bad. If you have room, try their green tea ice cream sandwiches. Yum!
Definitely ordering the Mango Roll again. That thing is 💯 . The servers were great! And always made sure the drinks were topped off. They even sang happy birthday along with their complimentary tempura green tea ice cream. 👍👍
Was busy when we arrived but the wait was only about 10 minutes. Sushi was typical for American style (fried with creamy sauces) but still tasty. Was a little annoying that they forgot the muscles that we ordered and the dishes were brought out one at a time (we ordered 5 rolls). I prefer being able to pick from a couple different rolls at a time especially if I like one more than the other. Overall, it was good but not great.
It was okay. Good sushi rolls and very nice staff. I felt it was impossible to get anything extra like napkins. Once you had your items, that was it. The waitress was still very lovely regardless. The sensual pleasure roll was the best one.
If I could give it 4.5 stars I would. We had the 3x5 Sashimi, Baked Scallops, Super Dragon Roll and Soft Tofu Stew with dumplings. Best dish - Super Dragon. Dragon rolls are always my testing dish. Super Dragon which uses real snow crab really makes a difference. The other 3 dishes were par for the course and met expectations. *** Note that is really a $$ experience and NOT $ *** $$ aside, this would be a place I would recommend and would visit again when visiting Legoland.
We love this place! Staff is not the fastest or friendliest; however, they get your food to you quickly and accurately. Besides the amazing sushi, they do an awesome birthday celebration! We take everyone we can here for birthday dinners. Lastly, their prices are the most inexpensive in the San Diego area! Tip: Have all your rolls cut in half (16 pieces instead of 8).
Very kid friendly! The menu pricing is deceptive, though - a lot of the rolls are double the price you'd expect, but then marked as 50% off. The servings are VERY large, though, and decent quality.
Forgot to take more pictures this time but we love Sushi Kuchi! We highly recommend this place if you’re looking for some good sushi! Last night’s fish wasn’t 5 stars though, gonna be honest. The fish tasted a bit off. Still giving it 4 stars because service is great and the fried rolls were delicious. Star Wars and the Vegas roll is always yummy!!! 😋
I have only ordered delivery from this place, but have been extremely impressed with the quality of the food. I tried other sushi places in the neighborhood and it doesn’t even come close to the quality of the rolls from sushi Kuchi. Love it! Definitely are go to for lazy days when we order delivery and are craving sushi.
Fresh fish, a great variety, and friendly staff! While it can get very busy with both dine-in and takeout orders, the team stays on top of it well. The chefs are happy to customize orders upon request. The outdoor patio is a huge plus, and their 50% off specials are awesome!
Hidden gem in Carlsbad. Warning to all the Sushi Aficionados out there though. This is not your high end sushi by the coast or like one of those fine dining sushi that you bring your partner on a special date. This is a sushi restaurant plain and simple. So I have to rate this based on mid-tier level Sushi Place standards Let's start with the food. The food is amazing, the fish are fresh and the portions are just perfect. Price-wise it's not that expensive, because if it's expensive, I'd rather go to a fine dining sushi restaurant. So they just priced their food just right. We tried unagi, tuna and the oyster and non of them failed. Yes they aren't cooked but the chef is confident enough to serve it to us, you guys wanna know why? Here's a little Sushi trivia for you guys. When they are that confident in the kitchen that means that they stand proudly behind the FRESHNESS of their fish, mollusks, echinoderms and crustaceans. Now when it comes to service, they are welcoming but I must say that the front requires more training. I ordered a Sake but our server forgot to put it in our bill. Since I am an honest customer, I did point out that it was missing and they are grateful about it. However what does a well trained restaurant do for customers like that? I don't know maybe a free dessert at least to thank them, but nope they just let us walk away. I mean I know it isn't necessary but I just feel that nowadays, how many honest people/customers are out there? Might as well give the good ones reasons to keep on coming back right? Again it's no biggie but I'm just saying Last but not least and this is the reason why it went down from 5 stars to 4 stars. It's the ambience. I feel that the place is a bit crowded. Like for example the table next to us is super close i could literally hear the guy breath next to me. Overall, we had a good experience. We'd definitely comeback. Maybe when we do, they do changes that would make this 5 out of 5 in my book
Parking was not bad. Checkin was quick on Friday night. Service was great and friendly staff. We tried a few simple crunchy rolls, Star Wars roll, and California Beach roll. To us, the California Beach roll was the best. Didn't know they have some other locations. Will definitely come back.
I was disappointed in their sushi. It was kind of bland, not at all like the layers of flavor I am used to tasting in other places I have visited. The service was friendly and the atmosphere of the restaurant was excellent but you do go to a restaurant for the food primarily so I don't think I'll be returning to this particular sushi place.
I came for the gluten-free options like tamari; sadly I did not stay and eat. I was immediately seated, everyone was friendly, but the air is heavy with grease and smoke due to insufficient ventilation. I could not breathe that, nor was I going to destroy my beautiful new coat by absorbing that oil and smell. I’m sure there are gluten molecules in the air too, escaping from the fryer. It wasn’t worth the risk. Kinda like it’s not wise to go to breweries if you have celiac. To be fair, I gave 5 stars each to service and food. 1 to atmosphere. It’s unacceptable to me. Bummer! ✌🏽🕊️
Disappointed. Chicken teriyaki dinner $19 entree came with miso soup and rice and a very bland vegetable and cabbage salad with no dressing. I thought it used to include California roll and some tempura, those days are over.
Only order sushi. We went there for dinner, ordered soft tofu stew and chicken teriyaki combo, kushi salad and star war roll. I would say the only good food is star war roll and other foods are terrible. It’s unworthy to cost me $60 for a dinner. 50% items off is marketing scam because they mark up the price. So you feel like it’s a good deal but you basically pay the same price as other sushi restaurants would price.
I've been to this establishment twice with a group of friends and we had just went Thursday on the third. The reason being we went was to celebrate my husband beating cancer for his fifth year remission we spent $199 and gave a 50 dollar tip. We stayed maybe for 30 minutes and was asked to leave by an older women. We kindly left but the restaurant was not packed. So I was a bit disappointed with that.
The food was great. However, customer service was not the best. No one came up to us to order our drinks nor show us how their checklist worked since it was our first time there. We ordered three rolls and one soft shell crab appetizer, but our order was noted down wrong. They instead made a soft shell crab roll. The lady who was trying to hand us the roll seemed upset by giving us attitude and slightly raised her voice insisting that we ordered the soft shell crab roll. We explained to her we never ordered that roll and that we ordered the appetizer and we advised them to review the checklist that showed we never ordered a soft shell crab roll. The service rating deserves a 2, at most. Our server never really checked in on us besides refilling our waters once and handing the check. On the other hand, there was a younger server (whom I assume wasn’t our server initially) was very helpful and accommodated us throughout our time at the restaurant.
We were welcomed and seated promptly. The sushi chef, Brian was very impatient and snappy. I hope he was just having a bad day. They serve a combo of Japanese and Korean dishes. It's more of a fusion place that Japanese. As long as you know that going in, there is little room for disappointment. The hot green tea was like warn at best. I give them thumbs up for Toro and Hamachi quality. The fried salmon skin should be just with a sprinkle of salt. Please stop heavily breading it and adding all that mumbo jumbo. The grilled Hamachi kama is the bomb! It was great. It took them over 20 minutes to prepare my check. Ai yai yai...
Low quality fish. I ordered a teriyaki salmon bento box for my kids. The cooked salmon tasted very fishy and was obviously not fresh. I told the lady who seemed to be the manager/owner, and she denied it. She said all their fish is fresh. I told her, "I tasted it myself and it is very bad. It has a fishy flavor that only comes with old or unfresh fish." She still denied it. She went to the kitchen and came back and claimed her salmon was all fresh. Wrong answer. Ding 1. One of my sons ordered a lunch sushi plate. The rolls did not look appetizing (too much rice), the fish looked mushy and old. My son, who eats everything, said, "It's edible but I wouldn't choose to eat it again." Ding 2. I ordered the beef soft tofu stew (soontofu). The egg they gave me to me to crack into the soup was old. The yolk had that distinct funk that comes from old eggs. Ding 3. Also, no banchan offered when ordering soontofu--not even kimchi. Ding 4. She offered us a free tempura ice cream to make up for the bad salmon. I didn't want it but the kids did, so I accepted the gesture. The tempura was not fried well--it was not crispy (meaning it was fried at too low of a temperature) and had an old grease flavor. Ding 5. Would not go back. Worst Korean/Japanese we've had in a while. Still tipped 20%. Total bill came out to $61. Waste of money.
Since my last review was taken down, probably by the owner since they actually write back to people. Don’t go here. Terrible service. The young lads are terribly rude. The whole experience was terrible. At least, shout out to the sushi chefs. Other than that, there’s better places to spend your money at. They have the most stuck up, arrogant, condescending staff ever. Maybe if you hire nice and decent people you wouldn’t have to troll your reviews because your staff is actually doing what they are suppose to do and act how they should. TO THE OWNER: maybe give me an apology for my terrible stay. I did pay at least your Wi-Fi bill and some gas. Spent over $100 at your spot. You’re welcome
Took delivery of an order, but there was a roll missing. The portions are pretty small so without this item, we did not have adequate food for dinner. I called the restaurant and the manager argued that it was not possible that we were missing an item from our order and refused to accept responsibility. He then told us to go to the restaurant to sort out the problem, but even then did not state what he would do, as he still argued that no mistake had been made. We gave up. Zero points for customer service and will never order from this restaurant again.
Sushi chef stared at my wife after we sent a roll back. The experience made her very uncomfortable. Food quality and portion size was underwhelming for the price. Won’t be back. Hired better.
$14 for a cucumber roll?????? That's cucumber, rice, and seaweed. Am I missing something? I walked out after seeing their prices.
This used to be our go to place. A couple years ago, they had big, fresh pieces of fish. The last 2 trips, however, we received spoiled eel then bad ahi. The rice is way dried out, there’s brown avocado, and small portions. It appears Uber eats and the like have killed the quality of their food. I’m sure it’s great for their bottom line, to serve low quality at high margins, without being limited by space constraints. Used to love it here, but we’re not going back.
We had a disappointing experience. They were busy, but not too busy since we were able to be seated right away. We filled out our order sheet and waited for someone to come by the table. Meanwhile a few other tables were seated. After at least 15 minutes, we noticed that the table seated after us was being served their drinks (meaning someone had taken there order and was now bringing their drinks, meanwhile no one had talked to us yet). My wife flagged down the host and let him know no one had been by our table since we were seated, and he apologized and hurried off to get someone. After maybe 10 more minutes of no one coming by the table we got up to leave as the other table was being served some of their food order. On the way out our a waiter from another section again apologized and said something about our table not being in his section. They need to work on balancing server sections or empowering servers to pick up the slack when necessary. We left without ordering to stop by Ralphs to get something quick to eat as it was getting late for our son and we couldn’t wait any longer.
I have ordered take out from here probably 30 times over the years and while there have at times been a few little things I didn't like about the way my food was prepared I've never had an order like the one I just received today. I ordered a variety of different food that my family usually orders, nothing different. The vegas roll was completely cold and it tastes like it had been in a refrigerator over night. The same for the shrimp crunch roll. The dragon roll has the most insane pile of fish eggs on top...I know it is supposed to have fish eggs...but this is about 10x more than normal. The salmon sushi still has the skin on it! The albacore sushi is gray! The maguro sushi (ahi) is a deep red and shriveled...so weird. I took 3 bites of different things, almost threw up. I tried being respectful and calling to get a refund and not leave a review but the phone rang about 20 times with no answer and no voicemail so here I am leaving the review. Did you guys get a new manager who us serving old food? A new sushi chef that loves fish skin on his sushi? What's going on?
