Any Irish pub I find I try to go in, even if it's just for a pint of Guinness. Found this spot on my drive today so happy I did. The lady behind the counter was so sweet and friendly. She said they had corned beef and cabbage so I told her I would take that. So glad I did it's probably one of the most delicious ones I had. It was so tasty and tender, just amazing. Brought some home for the hubby. Will definitely be going back! If you find yourself by Walden stop by and check them out!

Sweeney’s Irish Pub is awesome. If you’re into traditional, old-school Irish Pubs, this is the Place. Exceptionally clean and the food is great. Exceptional service. Francesca and Kristine holding the fort down and making everybody feel welcome while providing a fun environment. I would definitely recommend this spot.

GREAT place!! We were visiting friends in a nearby neighborhood for the week. We came to eat here twice because it was so good, and the atmosphere was nice. The servers were friendly and overall it really gave the cozy and fun feel of an Irish Pub. Would recommend!

A great local Irish pub and a great place to watch footy with a variety of different fans of most Premier League teams but surprisingly not Manchester United or Manchester City, which is nice. The U.S. Men's National Team even makes an appearance when appropriate. Sweeney's now even has a Sunday Brunch from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.

Love the food here. Real UK style fish and chips, American style burgers. The best of two continents! Has been our take out treat during Covid. Staff is quick & friendly.

Little expensive but uou get what you pay for. We went for dinner in between wake viewings so we all cried and laughed a lot. The people who drank were trying the mixed drinks and loved them. The shepherds's pie was amazing from what I heard. The atmosphere is awesome. I love old style pubs. This is one for the ages. The waitress was super sweet and helped us split the bill. I will go back again. No question about that.

A true hometown bar of the Hudson Valley. It is both accomodating for families and the occasional stop in. The owner is not only a huge supporter to his surrounding community but is also a friend to many of his patrons. At Sweeney's a draft of Guinness is always properly poured. The staff is quaint and inviting. The games are always playing for their enthusiastic fans. Also, like many businesses in this time of struggle, they have done their utmost best to provide an atmosphere of safety but also a feeling of togetherness when needed most. To that I leave a five star review, but on a further note I would also like to add that if Sweeney's were to be a star in the heavens it would be Polaris leading the way.

Best Guinness, cheeseburger, grilled cheese, cheese steak, french fries, and Irish stew in Walden, if not all of orange county. The service is friendly and attentive (and genuinely Irish). Atmosphere can be a bit loud (it is an Irish pub after all). Have eaten there many times, and will return many more. Highly recommend.

Found this place while driving to our hotel. We went in on a night where they were having some sort of fundraiser, so needless to say the staff was unprepared. We sat at the bar and the barmaid forgot about us for a while and then dropped menus and forgot about us again. LoL finally order food and drinks and the place was packed with children who were not eating and only drinking water and taking up space and seats for paying customers. Then again not really too sure if that was the entire town in this place that night. Haha it was good anyway.

Sweeney's is a wonderful pub . It has a wonderful staff and laid back atmosphere that really leans towards traditional Irish pub, not an American sports bar. Come here for all your traditional Irish favorites and a nice cold beer

Great Irish pub atmosphere.

Traveling for work through the area. The wait staff was Friendly and attentive. The atmosphere was festive and they were not too busy. I was seated right away and service was fast. I had the special- ribeye tacos. The meal came with 2 soft tacos with guac and salsa, I requested sour cream. The tacos were flavorful and filling, I would definitely visit again if I am back in town.

This was a most pleasant experience. The food was VERY good (Shepherd's Pie, Fish & Chips & Texas Burger were our choices), atmosphere was cozy and staff was sooo nice! Highly recommended and look forward to our next visit.

Great little restaurant just a short drive away from the Angry Orchard Cider House and only 30 minutes of Minnewaska State Park. Our waitress was extremely friendly, accommodating, and attentive. The food is solid. (Their fried food is cooked in peanut oil, so just a heads up if you're allergic) Also worth noting, there's no parking lot so you have to find street parking. I don't live in the area but wouldn't hesitate to come back here if I'm back in the vicinity.

Even though I've lived in orange county well, a long time I've never been to Sweeny's until a few days ago. It's really nice inside! The staff was warm, friendly and efficient. The food was delicious! We will be back!

Shepherd's Pie was very good! Irish pub so except there to be some noise, lots of sport watching and alcohol. Food did take some time to come, but other than that, would come back.

Great old school Irish pub atmosphere! We arrived around 9 pm and it was great we were able to still order dinner. The Dublin steak sandwich was very large and the Reuben was we a decent size. Our waitress was friendly and attentive. We would return again in the future!

Wow! Wow! My husband loved Extra crispy wings delicious lemon pepper. Popcorn shrimp oh delicious. Just met the owners. So so sweet and u can tell they care. Made u feel at home. My first time here and I had a great time. Doreen was very attentive and accommodating. The food I ordered was great. I can't remember the bartender's name but he was a young man with dark hair who made very good drinks. The other guests were very friendly. Extremely clean and I love the app for the jukebox.

I stopped in here the other day well my wife was away for dinner. My cooking cannot compare to my wife's. Man did this place not fail me. They had a special on steak that day which I ordered and was as good as any steakhouse. The atmosphere was lovely and the lady bartender was very kind and friendly to the fact that I was new there. I am looking forward to going back there for another meal and a good drink or two.

This is, for my wife and I, one of the better, more reliable places to go for food and a beer. A lot restaurants nowadays have become hit or miss with their entrees/food being sometimes good, sometimes not so good. Sweeneys is always consistent with their flavors. The lines for the taps are always clean and the Guiness is always poured the correct way. On top of all of that, their prices are very reasonable, and they haven't been following suit with other eateries raising prices because we have a lot of visitors coming up from that city south of us. This is one of a few local establishments left in our area that haven't forgotten about us locals. And we appreciate that.

New menu is great. They still have their signature original Irish dishes but the new fresh additions are awesome. The prime rib sandwich is pure perfection on its garlic bread toasted hero. Also perhaps my favorite new comer is the spring salad. Greens,craving, crisp apple and blue cheese crumbles. It comes with a balsamic reduction dressing. But I opted for the blue cheese dressing instead ( which is 🔥 fire,meaning great 👍). I also added crispy bacon 🥓 and the salmon 🐟.I loved,loved, loved the crispiness of the outside of the salmon but it's juicy center melts on your mouth and makes you long for your next salad fix. Yeah,it's that good. Tomorrow is Prime Rib Thursday so if you are a conevor like me you owe it to yourself to not settle for subpar and get your fix that will satisfy you until the next week. Love shows up,so come and show Sweeney's some love😘

Had dinner and drinks with friends here. It is an iconic Irish pub where you can get a proper black and tan as well as Shepard's pie. Really enjoyed ourselves.

Standard Irish pub experience. The food is not impressive and I typically only order fries or another appetizer. They have a good beer selection and just recently began offering specials including specialty drinks (which I am excited about). We enjoy weekly trivia with "Jack of All Trivia" so we will continue to visit regularly.

This is a nice Irish place. The service was standardly good, and the place looks well maintained. The food was not the best, but it might just be my selection. My wife's meal was definitely better than mine. I will give it another try in the future.

If had a complaint and really isn't anything that really can be done about is the acoustics are rough for some reason always feels really loud to a point of uncomfortable. Sweeneys always has been a staple of walden. You can always count on getting a good bite of food in there. I've been many times before, and I highly recommend Irish food, but today I went with a bbq burger instead. I asked for medium rare, and it was brought out cooked perfectly to it. It was a big burger, and the onion rings were also a nice portion size, cooked nice and crispy. The waitress was very attentive and was fun to talk to.

Cozy atmosphere with a definite pub feel. The music got a little loud for easy conversation, and the rock anthems took away any elegance. But maybe that's why some people like them. Food was very good. Huge fish filets and ample portions of large-cut fries. Service was friendly, but it took quite a while until we got to order, quite a while before being served, one of us was served 5-10 minutes after the rest us (with apologies and no charge), and drinks weren't refilled.

The decor still feels original to the Irish pub theme. The food is still good & the drinks are always flowing. The mozzarella sticks and cottage pie will always be my go-to. Always a great time especially if DJ Erick Santana is there!

While the customer service and ambiance were top-notch, I couldn't help but wish for a livelier crowd, perhaps more people my age mingling and adding to the energy of the evening. However, I acknowledge that my early evening visit on a Saturday may not have captured the full essence of Sweeney's nightlife. Overall, my experience at Sweeney's Irish Pub & Restaurant was a solid 4-star affair, marked by friendly service, an inviting atmosphere, and the promise of exceptional food. The food was very good (they use less salt and pepper than most places because you're supposed to add your own to your own liking, don't worry they won't be offended it's intentional). The staff were also very attentive, polite, and professional. I'd definitely like to return and try more of the menu when I am able to do so.

Definitely worth trying. Whether it's a casual lunch with co workers or a dinner with friends. Weekend evenings are busy with a livelier crowd, so depending upon the atmosphere you are looking for, you may want to change up what time and day you go. The wait staff is friendly and attentive, the few times i have been, I've never felt lost, that i couldn't get an order in. An enjoyable and surprising, mixed customer base , for an Irish pub. The wings are hands down, some of the better in the area. Parking can sometimes be a little tight, and a busy main street in front.

This is a pub, but their basic food items like French fries and fried chicken, fish and chips are tasteless, overcooked . Very inconsistent. The fried chicken is either super salty and cooked well inside, but burned on the outside. This means they are not regulating their frying oil, and not changing it frequently enough. The fries for my husbands Chicken were too crispy, not in a good way. Mine were cooked almost perfect. My fish was a small tasteless piece for $20. Not worth it. The tartar sauce lacks flavor. Really the few things they have done well are, burgers, mozzarella sticks, Reuben egg roll. I understand inflation is high and food costs are impacting businesses and the customer? But $20 for a crappy piece of fried fish is overkill. I would be ok with it, if quality was there. Obviously, it’s a place you go to get wasted, not for decent food.

Ok bartender was our waitress said kitchen didn't prep a bunch of food. No corned beef and no fish n chips. No ketchup bottle. Given packets for dine in.No hard cider but I did get a well poured Half n Half. Lights were flickering and that drove us nutz. Over all average nothing special.

New owners from NYC as of a couple of years ago. Still no change since then to the stale, painfully yuck menu. I have been waiting but no, they aren’t going to invest a nickel in improving the place or quality of food. The last burger I had was dry and tasteless. It’s not Irish, it’s low class pub grub. At least the previous owners had specials. Luckily for them the locals keep it going.

My husband and I ordered take out. We ordered a smash burger well done it was still pink. The sampler platter was no better. The wings were still pink inside, the bacon on the potato skins was not rendered just wobbly fat. No sour cream or thousand island packed with it. The French onion soup and macaroni and cheese were ok, the only reason the order received 2 stars. This was a Saturday evening, pick up time was 6:08 pm order # 49

When we first moved to Walden, sweeneys was our first local spot that we checked out. The owners were lovely, and wonderfully welcoming atmosphere, and great bar food. Since the ownership has changed, I can’t say our experience has stayed the same. The last few times we have visited, the food has been extremely slow, missing dishes or cold. The last time we visited with our 3 year old, we arrived to the boss explaining that the cook wasn’t there for another 10 minutes, so we waited to give our order for a bit. Totally fine, but after we gave our order to the “boss” around 4:30, we didn’t see any food until about 5:30, and it was a Luke warm grilled cheese and fries and only one dish of the three we ordered. And then we were Told that a turkey wrap we ordered was instead made with ham, since they were out of turkey, and the boss had to go to the store to get more. Additionally they were out of lettuce for a salad which they also had to go get. Luckily, our toddler got her food, and she doesn’t care about it being hot. So we waited another 10 mins for the ham wrap. And then finally around 5:45 I got my salad when we reminded the waitress about another sandwich we were waiting for. Turns out the order for that was never put in by the boss, and we didn’t see that until 6:15. After that we had to leave and overheard other customers returning cold food and canceling orders as well. The waitress was lovely and really Apologetic about everything, so I don’t fault her at all. I think she was thrown into a poorly planned situation, and left to fend for herself with the boss’s mistakes while we observed him having a drink at the bar with friends. I wish I could say this was an isolated incident, but we have had multiple similar experiences lately, along with friends reporting the same. I loved sweeneys, but don’t think I’ll be going back any time soon.

What is an Irish Pub without Irish Beer?! They were out of their three Irish beers and several food items. This was quite unusual, especially for a Saturday evening with a half full restaurant. The others in our party liked their food, but my smash burger was not smashed. It was two normal patties with hardly any sauce. Our server was the bright spot.

The worst experience I've ever had at a bar. I'm 32, disabled, and dont have a drivers license but have an official state issued ID. The waitress carded us, twice, and brought everyone else their drinks except me. Then when I asked where mine was she asked if I was serious and then proceeded to ridicule me to her coworker. Instead of asking me about the validity of my ID or if I had a second form she blatantly disrespected me just because i dont have a drivers license. Which is a shame because I've heard from my friends how great the place is when the people they believe to be the owners are there. Will make sure I tell everyone not to go.

Waitress took our order way after we were seated. Was rude and seemed like she didn’t want to be there. Our food came out cold and she didn’t even come to check on us not once. Horrible customer service and this isn’t the first time either. Food is okay but I will not be coming back. You guys are extremely rude.

Ordered food for lunch with the office and it was not good. Chicken sandwich is only 2 pieces of chicken tenders. The chicken tenders were over cooked, Turkey club Turkey was too dry, Burger was over cooked and the roast beef melt roast beef tasted old. Not worth the price for the quality of the food.

Went in there with a pretty good size group of people about 20 of us and we all ordered separately. My food came out and it was OK. Somebody I was with ordered food sat there for over an hour and when he went up to the bar to ask where his food was. They said oh we ran out of it, but they never told him he sat there for over an hour waiting for his food. Everyone else was served. The reviews are TRUE this place sucks.

This used to be my local go to place but our last couple of visits have changed my mind. The only good thing here is the servers. Too bad they never get to serve anything but drinks. Extremely disappointing experience. We arrived at the restaurant at 5:30 PM for dinner and ordered a hamburger, chicken wings, and a chicken sandwich. About 20 minutes later, we were told there were no chicken wings, even though the table right next to us had just received theirs. Then, 45 minutes after ordering, we were informed that there were no hamburgers. The staff said there was nothing they could do because they couldn’t reach the owner. No alternatives, no compensation, not even an apology beyond the basic explanation. It is completely unacceptable for an Irish pub to be out of both wings and burgers on a Friday night at 5:30 PM. I’ve never experienced anything like this in a dining establishment. Seriously baffled 😳
