Ran in here desperately hungry and enjoyed one of the best pizzas ever! Suuuuper hot and fresh. The crust was epic. Totally crispy on the bottom but soft inside. Tons of yummy cheese and delicious sauce. And the slices were huge!! 100% satisfied!

Real New York pizza. If you have always wanted to try pizza from nyc or miss it from back home, go here. The guys are from ny. A little pricy at $4/slice but worth it.

Absolutely delicious pizza! Can be ordered by the slice or a hole pizza (med - 14", lg- 16" or xl- 18"). It's a must stop for us whenever we are in San Francisco.

Best NewYork style pizza in SF by far. You never see any crust on peoples plates there because its been eaten. Best crust next to Gaspares Pizza on Clement

The pizza is phenomenal here. Parking is a mess but that's normal throughout the city. If possible order ahead during the lunch rush and take out. It can be a small wait if not.

The pizza is so good! The salad is so good! The value is great for San Francisco. Great service, and a quite location. Do yourself a favor and order a deep dish Sicilian.

Omg! This is pizza! 🍕 we lovee pizza and every town we visit we go to local places to try them yesterday we went to pizzeria delfina and spent 50$ on 2 tiny pizzas and a kids pasta (ordered by phone) and it was soooo disappointing. This pizzeria right here is da bomb! Best pizza we've tried so far and we've been to NY and this little spot right here is winning by miles!

At the end of a long hike, across the Bridge and through the Presidio, the Food Gods themselves placed this Temple in the Holiest of Places. Simple pepperoni slice and SUNKIST orange soda... Just like home back in Jersey... Well Done!

One of the best places to get a slice or two in San Francisco. Usually I go here because the sandwich shop next door is closed but I always leave happy because the food is really good.

Very simple and delicious pizza near Presidio. Visit often for a slice or two of pizza. Thin crust and generous toppings make this place a great one to visit. Their Sheshito Peppers are really well done and super tasty. If you haven't tried, give them a try. Prices are not going to be cheap here but you can expect good quality for for the price you pay.

Best mother truckin pizza place in Sf hands down. Where else can you get a piping hot fresh slice with ANYTHING you want on it? They have amazing ingredients and the friendliest pizza squad ever. I have eaten 1,000s of slices and I will have 10,000more.

Walking from the Presidio and doing this lil gem of a pizza place! We enjoyed the small Lombard on a thin crust, lots of toppings and great sauce! Sat outside at the picnic benches, enjoyed! They have sandwiches, calzones, single slices as well!

Very good by east coast standards. Great service. Pizza usually ready in 20 mins for pickup, 45 if delivery. Their large is huge, good deal compared to most places in sf

Best Pizza!! Easy to find on the end of Lombard St. The heavenly aroma can be smelt before entering the quaint establishment. The service, price and pizza are so worth the wait. It is a fun happen pizza place!! Enjoy the yummy pizza on the outside patio! Don’t miss out on the place when coming to San Francisco!!

BEST NY PIZZA I'VE EVER HAD, best pizza I've ever had ! Tiny place, not fancy at all but the pizzas are brilliant. I was served by the owner, friendly and polite, while the cooks were making my pizza in front of my eyes. They even have a little patio outside with condiments provided. Strongly recommend this place !

We had veggies pizza slices. Lots of fresh veggies, including fresh mushrooms. Thick slices of fresh tomato. While eating we saw them going next door to a market to purchase produce. Tasty crust seemed to us to be home made. A few tables indoors and a few outdoors. Reasonable prices.

A
Alex Troup

Really amazing pizza. They sell by the slice and toast it up hot before they give it to you. So much character here. Eat inside or out. It has a bike lock. Little corner market nearby. Right next to the presidio in case you want to go for a walk or take your dog.

We had an evening baseball game out at Fort Scott, and I used it as an excuse to try out Pizzeria Avellino for the first time. We ordered 5 pies ahead of time with different options. All five were done right for the time that I ordered, they weren't sitting around getting cold and stale for half an hour before I picked them up. All 5 pies were absolutely demolished by our players and their parents with everyone exclaiming how good they were. Pizzeria Avellino definitely has my business moving forward!

The best bang for your buck in SF. This might be the last affordable place in SF to get a meal. The pizza is really good and the staff is always nice. I like to sit on their outdoor patio with a beer and a pizza and relax with the nice view of the big trees in the Presidio.

M

One of the best Pizza places I have EVER had in my life and I'm 46 and well-traveled... Every time we are in SF it's a planned stop that we look forward to in the days leading up. They make a crust that balances a crunching crust and sturdy bottom to support delicious, and fresh, piled on toppings and generous cheese...in the perfect combination that creates a perfect pizza. They also make a great meatball sandwich and the salads are delicious... We have never had bad food or a less than great experience here... Over 20 visits.. THAT'S SAYING SOMETHING!!!

J
Joe Eilers

Good by the slice pizza, and the nicest owner. Would also recommend the cheesesteak for a quick bite!

R

Yea! Tasty HUGE pizza by the slice. Soda fountain had no ice but Coke cold anyways due to weather. Rainy SF day with great pizza for lunch. I like how the sales guy heated the pizza in a real pizza oven for about five minutes to warm it up and make it crispy. Place was crowded here at noontime.

M
Matt K

I really like this place! Great friendly service. Love the thin crust. $10 = slice + draft beer.

First of all I want to clarify that I have never eaten at this place before. The review will simply be about my experience here. I do not live in SF. A few weeks ago, I was visiting a relative there and while taking the bus, I got off at the wrong stop and got lost. I was very scared because I’m just a girl alone in a relatively empty street and my phone just happened to die not too long after. I tried everything, taking the next bus, walking a few minutes to try to find the street I was supposed to meet my relative at but it was 7pm and too cold so I just stood there at the bus stop defeated. Just praying and praying that I could find a way to solve this issue of mine which is when I noticed a man who kept looking at me with a concerned expression on his face from the store across the street from me. I tested my luck and crossed the road. The same man immediately walks out of the store with a warm smile on his face and asks me if I wanted a free slice of pizza. I was overjoyed, and so happy that this man had kind intentions and somehow noticed me struggling. Though I had to refuse his offer because I was fasting at the time, I made sure he knew I was thankful. Then he offered I go inside his pizza place because it’s warmer than outside. He told me I could make a phone call when I asked and he was overall very kind. He kept asking if I was sure about the pizza. He was even cleaning the place but made sure I was comfortable. I know I didn’t have any of his food but it sure smelled great. I am not in sf anymore but if and when I do go back, I’m going to this place firsthand and supporting this business. Owner, if you’re reading this, I’ll never forget your kind gesture.

Pizza Avellino is a wonderful local place for a quick slice of delicious pizza! They stay open later. This makes walking through the Presidio and then stopping off for a reasonably priced evening evening meal and easy thing to do in this part of San Francisco. They pay attention to what you ask them to do when you pick your slice and specify a type of of crispiness that you want the slice to be. The guys running the place the night I came in are nice and quick. Tables were clean. My slice of pepperoni arrived cooked perfect. For the $6.00 cost it tasted great. I'll be back for a future stop the next time I am in the neighborhood.

Bought 2 slices today as a quick bite after walking around in the area. Slices were pretty big, good, crispy and cheesy. For example, size comparison I'd say like a Sbarro or Costco slice, maybe slightly bigger. One of the best new York style slices around. Will definitely keep them on our list for anymore visits when in San Francisco. Might even stop by again right now. Stopped by again in December and still as delicious. will keep visiting.

Used to be better, but still decent. They have a good selection of slices already made so it's quick to drop in and grab a slice. Their slices are smaller than they used to be. It's ok, probably on par with primo's Pizza or seniores pizza slice but not certainly better and nothing close to the gold standard a pizza slice which is Serrano's Pizza in the mission. hole in the wall pizza nearby maybe slightly better. I really don't know why it is that a pizza slice good taste so much different from a regular pizza ordered from scratch but it seems to be quite common place between a different pizza slice places.

X
Xavier

Solid pizza spot. Fresh slices, crust is good might be a bit too crisp for some people if you like to fold your pizza. Come here frequently since I live nearby.

E
Ellen A

This is the first pizza Ive eaten in San Francisco that is comparable to the best NYC pizza. It's crisp, the sauce and cheese taste fresh rather than gluey, while avoiding the oiliness of low-end NY pizza slices. Also, get the romano lettuce salad w/ fresh bacon bits, shredded mozzarella and olives.

J
Josiah Tschetter

Good pizza, good parking, good service, tasted pretty good. It is $4 a slice but the slices are huge. Two slices are easily more than a typical medium pizza. It's a nice little place

I
Irene Potsakis

It's good. It's good NY pizza in SF. It's not NY pizza, but it gets the craving satisfied. It's a small place with a patio and serves beer and wine just outside of the Presidio. We usually order a pepperoni pizza, and can be in and out in about 30-45 min. The staff there is always cool, so no complaints there.

K
Karina O'Flynn

The Lombard was exceptional., perfectly balanced and a great combination of meats and vegetables. The ham and pineapple pizza was great but was truly made by the arugula salad added to the top. On its own however, the arugula salad I would not recommend, it was far too acidic and the pickled onions had a very strange flavour. The toilet in the establishment, was not pleasant, and even stranger was the journey to get to it, customers had to walk through the kitchen area to get to the toilet at the back of the room.

Z
Zephyr Neumann

In the area, we stopped in here to grab a couple of slices for a quick lunch. The serving size is a decently large slice, and they have a good variety of pizza to choose from for the lunch slices. The pizza dough is a relatively thin and crispy crust, foldable, but not floppy. The sauce was flavorful, but not remarkable. The combined flavors of the pizza was exactly what I was looking for and was satisfying. Overall, I'd stop here again for lunch!

C
Christopher Washington

Quick and fast little pizza joint with outside seating. The pizza is very crispy crust something I like but it's not that thin slices are large. I ended up getting two slices when I really only needed one. I got the chicken pesto and the pepperoni Pesto I would give 7.5 out of 10. Not too greasy like many other pestos can be and the pesto flavor was strong but not overpowering. The chicken was also big chunks and very good. The pepperoni I would give a 7.0 out of 10. Nice tangy pepperonis not too spicy. Pepperonis were a little small but they had a good amount on the pizza. The cheese was very well melted. Nothing too greasy or oozy that falls all over the place. Would definitely come here again. Service was extremely fast. I was in and out of the restaurant less than 10 minutes.

Today was my first time trying Avellino Pizzeria but it’ won’t be my last. Pizzeria Avellino uses only the freshest ingredients around, ensuring that every dish is of the highest possible quality. Conveniently located five (5) minutes away from the Palace of Fine Arts, this pizzeria is a great place to stop in for a bite if you’re exploring the city of San Francisco. Avellino has several speciality pizzas, such as, The Lombard Pizza, Fuggedaboutit Pizza, and Veggie Jackson Pizza are all prepared quickly and made fresh to order. Due to COVID, there is no dine-in options, but, they have an outside patio with four (4) tables that customers can sit and enjoy their food at. I ordered the large classic pepperoni pizza, and it was good. It was perfectly priced ($21.00) and had eight (8) large slices, which is perfect if you’re sharing. The only issue I had was that the pizza was a bit greasy, but, what pizza isn’t. This is definitely a pizzeria worth checking out.

P
Philip Haas

Pretty solid slice of pizza. The sauce could be a bit better, in my opinion. About $4.50 for a slice. Which is a bit higher than NYC.

Don't go when it's raining out. They had the fryer going and the entire place was filled with hot oil smell. I told the guy he should turn the vent on for his own health. Was only in there for a few mins and my clothes smelled for hours afterward.

Update: This place used to be our go to but this year they raised the prices to abhorrent levels. The pizza we used to get for $29 is now $40. $40 for a medium pizza is just too much. Pizza is so good, and the people that work here are nice.

A
Antonela Frashëri

Pizza was about average. We came around 7pm on a Sunday so that is probably not the best time for the freshest pizza by the slice. The staff was nice and it is very close to the presidio and the electric chargers. The place was not hygienic and it was pretty messy though. It wasn’t terrible but it wasn’t that good either.

C

Pizzeria Avellino is a decent hole-in-the-wall pizza place that is a great place to stop for a slice near the Palace of Fine Arts. Ended up getting our slices in around five minutes; service is a bit brisk and preferred cash, but he got us our pizza in five minutes. Portions are huge (should've gone with one!) and it's around $6 a slice - practically unheard of in this day and age.

K
Kourosh Dadgar

Everybody knows the rules, pizza slices were 6.3/10 - they were too thick for me and a bit old. It's a nice spot by Lombard and Lyon

Friendly and convenient, but the pizza was tasteless. I got 1 slice of combo, which has enough toppings that flavor should not be an issue... But seriously without flavor.

I don't know what happened here. They went from a phenomenal NYC pizza to, what I'm assuming is, frozen dough and canned sauce with cheap cheese. 4.5 stars before, 2 now.

Looks like they changed ownership. No more red table clothes, and made to order thin crust pizza. Just bright fluorescent lights. A total pickup and go joint.

A below-average pizza place. Their crust is not home-made, the slices are very greasy, and the service was pretty slow for how quiet it was. Disappointing, as I was expecting better after reading lots of positive reviews :(

As much as I'd like to like Avellino, it's just not great. The slices always seem to be sitting there a while, they are thick slices which isn't my personal preference and there's not a lot going on in the space. That said, the staff are all friendly and it's certainly an okay spot to satisfy a slice craving.

8 dollars for two of the worst cheese slices iv had in a while. Not to mention the guy who served me was sassy and mean. If you are looking for good pizza in San Fransisco, do not go here.

In such a good area and such bad pizza, it's not clear how they pay for the rent

This place is a filthy and a total dump. The pizza took 30mins to be ready and was flavourless and tasted no better than a frozen oven pizza. Save your money and Avoid!!

Quick and efficient but pretty terrible pizza. Super hard crust that splits and breaks and very mild toppings. Even sausage and jalapeño managed to be bland. Tastes like Chuck E Cheese.

Why you guys do not have cheese pizza??

Pizza was burned. Some Ingredients were on wrong pizza for our 2 slices. Croutons were super stale. Root beer was great. Price was not cheap for what we got. Would not go here again. Mural on side of buildings was being painted, and loved that.

Worst food EVER! Pizza was barely edible, the wings overcooked and dry, the "garlic fries" were regular French fries with a half a teaspoon of minced garlic on top 🤣 and we ordered 2 pieces of chocolate cake and got 2 pcs of cheesecake lmao! Overall we paid $88 total for 1 large meat lovers; 12 pcs Hot wings; 1 order of garlic fries and 2 pcs of cake. Don't order out that's a guaranteed ripoff 🤣🤣

This isn’t actually one star pizza, it’s just one star pizza in San Francisco. Came here for an afternoon slice. The tomato sauce is OK. The toppings were OK. But the crust tasted like cardboard. In a city with so many good options, it feels a little criminal. For slices I prefer Primo on Divisadero.
