Some of the best food and service I've had in NYC. These chefs are talented. Highly recommend!
Such a great place to go as a foodie! The vibe is a little pretentious but that's just because everyone who works there, from chefs to bus boys, are incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about food and drink. As a foodie myself, their choices for dishes highlighted ingredients that are currently popular to use (ie. sumac, bottarga) and their wine and beer menu is unique and includes explanations.
Love Fradei- small spot with great atmosphere and lovely wine. The food is beautifully executed and whenever I’m disappointed that something has left the menu, another favorite appears.
world class seafood steak and other stuff.. killer wines.
Fradei is an intimate bistro off Fulton Street within easy walking distance of BAM or the Theatre for a New Audience. My Spanish wife & I enjoyed one of our best meals in New York. We shared several dishes from the a la carte menu, all highly creative mixtures of different tastes. They included a tangelo (similar to nectarine) with pistachio & goat cheese; a wagyu beef tartare with radicchio and oyster emulsion; & monkfish with smoked peas and fermented chili. The small staff is friendly and the prices are reasonable by NY standards.
I desperately want to gate keep this place cause it is so good! The food is fresh, seasonal, complex, intriguing….i could go on and on how great it is. The space and team is small so sometimes we feel a bit rushed thru service or a cramped but that being said it’s adorable inside and the service is accommodating and kind.
Yummy food, tasty wine and a very helpful group of people running it. They have many great suggestions and you will enjoy your meal greatly. Only surprise was the cheese and meat plate had a lot of meat, but not much cheese. Wish the ratio was a little more even.
One of the best places I’ve been to in the last year. Outstanding wine list, amazing food and super friendly staff. And the restaurant is also really cute inside and out
Small menu: 3 starters, half a dozen mains, and two desserts. The 18-hour slow-cooked miso glazed pork belly was the most memorable. Wine options were red, white, bubbly, rose, and bubbly rose. Easy choices, I love it.
Tried outdoor dining due to Covid, and I'd definitely come back. Food and service were great as always. New chef team is focusing on Hudson Valley produce and had a bunch of hits with Hakuri Turnips and Fried Squash Blossoms.
One of my favorite local spots. Very tiny restaurant, so the vibes are super cozy and intimate, and the food never misses.
You feel like you're in someone's living room. Make a reso because it's small. Order everything. And if you like wine, this is the place to order it with your food- they have a great list.
Kept postponing writing this review but a recent bad dining experience elsewhere made me think of Fradei again. From start to finish what an experience with attentive and friendly service. The food was simply exceptional, can’t wait to go back.
Intentional dishes, distinct flavors, precision cooking. Well sourced food and beverages. The entire experience is balanced and elegant without any fuss. I know my way around a restaurant - this place excels. Reminds my why I live in NY.
Sensational. Small, focussed food menu. Seasonal, which is the way it should be. Every dish is so well-executed that it’s impossible to order badly. Wine list is also terrific, and navigated with aplomb by staff who are extremely knowledgeable and clearly love what they’re doing. Couldn’t recommend more highly
One of my favorite meals in NY after 10 years in the city. The food is astonishingly good; it balances the line between creativity with some occasionally out of the ordinary ingredients, yet every dish we ate was as satisfying as comfort food. The service was knowledgeable, friendly and unpretentious. I liked Fradei so much that I made another reservation before leaving.
Delicious upscale Italian food in a cozy rustic environment. The menu is small but creative and beautifully presented . Not only is the food delicious but everything is made by the chef on premise including the tomatoes focaccia bread they serve gratis. Prices are reasonable for food at this level. You can see they do not spare anything and use only the best quality ingredients . They have a very good wine selection as well. This will fast become a neighborhood gem!
One of the best dining experiences I’ve had in a long time. The tasting menu was full of creative dishes that were all amazing and unique. Amazing vibe, great wine selection, and incredibly nice staff.
Fantastic Italian bistro, eclectic delicious food prepared by excellent chefs, welcome and friendly owners who take special care of every guest. My favorite restaurant in Fort Greene! Always new dishes to try, always with a wonderful blend of flavors. Wines to suit every palette ❤️
A fun and unique way to dine -- no menu descriptions for the food means you have to have a conversation with the gregarious waiters to figure out what you're having. All five courses were stunning, and the wine-by-the-glass options are all tailored for the meal, so you can't go wrong. Be sure to stay for an amaro after dinner!
Ate at Fradei tonight and could not be more thrilled that this wonderful restaurant has opened in our neighborhood. It is evident that careful attention went into planning every detail. The atmosphere is inviting and warm, a very pretty space. The service was absolutely lovely - Simone, one of the owners, could not have been more welcoming or attentive. The pasta dish we had was honestly one of the best I have EVER eaten and I come from an Italian family that makes their own. The fish of the day was also incredible, an inspired mix of interesting flavors, without being the least bit fussy. And the light and infused tiramisu dessert rounded out a perfect meal. Fradei is my new favorite restaurant!
Incredible food and service! My boyfriend and I were totally blown away by the oxtail pasta and the mussels, and even the fresh bread was amazing. Our waiter was really attentive and recommended the perfect wine for us. We'll be back!
Delicious dinner! It’s ala cart now and we didn’t really understand the menu but the waiter will walk you through everything and make sure you’re well fed and happy! The food was beyond delicious with unique flavor combinations. High recommend!
This is honestly my new favorite wine bar in Brooklyn Vibes like you are in a deep Parisian neighborhood wine bar. Great natural wine, artisanal small plates from local craft butchers and bakeries. Awesome modern French music. and the owner, Clemon, is an excellent host. This place is a Gem.
Fantastic place. Highly recommend! Food is just incredible and cheap. Huge value. The wine list is a killer focusing on small talented producers. The owners are very nice. My favorite spot in Brooklyn !
My husband and I had dinner here for the first time the other night and we both agreed that his is one of the best restaurants we've been to in a long time. The food was excellent. Creative, beautiful and delicious. The service was perfect. The prices were reasonable. Highly recommend.
A pleasantly quaint atmosphere, very intimate, and a unique experience with the two floor people that I’ve never experienced anywhere else. This will be my new go-to spot from now on. The wine, the food were just impeccable.
Every time I go here, I am blown away by how this small restaurant could have such a perfect line up of dishes. The highest quality foods, amazing wines, great cocktails, and great service. Don’t miss the crab toast (if they have it! The menu changes a lot but it’s always good)!
Charming neighborhood restaurant with unbelievable service. Warm, friendly staff . Wine and food very memorable..unexpected flavors. Can't wait to go back!
Tiny hidden gem I hate telling people about because I don’t want it to be packed lol but it’s probably one of my top two restaurants in New York right now. Never disappoints always fresh. Everything is cooked to perfection, fresh seasonal menu and I always find myself trying to recreate the delicious and creative recipes at home.
This place is an absolute gem. Easily one of the best meals I’ve ever had. The vibe is immaculate, service fantastic, and the food is a national treasure. I think the menu is rotational from what I understand but my favorite dishes were the scallops, carpaccio, steak and definitely try the anchovies. Everything was delicious though so you can’t go wrong with whatever you decide. The place is small and quaint so make a reservation and thank me later.
We had such a wonderful time at Fradei! We have been a few times and the vibe is so cozy yet fun. The food is always incredible, most recently we had this insanely delicious mushroom pasta. Lastly, but most importantly the WINE, perfectly paired with the meal. Can't wait to come back.
This has to be my new favorite restaurant, the food, the staff, and the wine list create such a laid-back, cool vibe, letting the dishes speak for themselves.
Where do I begin? The place is super small incredibly cute and perfect for a date night. The staff is very cool and super friendly. It gave off this really cool cozy French Bistro Parisian vibes. The main reason why we come here the - food. Well, the food was ABSOLUTELY INSANE! Ok so I didn’t bother looking at the menu. I told our waiter pick 6 of your favorite things off the menu and let’s go. No kidding one thing after the other was incredible delicious. How these chefs came up with these flavors and mix them all together is special. I can’t wait to go back there. It’s such a great spot.
Sure, food/service/vibe. But, there's an ineffable quality to this place that we felt last night. There was a lift that occurred where each element of cuisine (ingredients, chef choices, menu, cook, presentation), service (warm yet appropriate, neighborhood but knowledgeable, measured but not aloof), vibe (see above and place within context of WINE). Add it all up and it somehow became even greater than the sum of its parts into some convivial and gustatory "other." We live a little bit too far to remember to pursue and time a reservation more than the 6 times we've been over the past couple years - we so envy the people we saw dropping by for a later glass and a few dishes. But, we shall continue to make the effort despite the distance. In other words, this is a destination spot that behaves like a neighborhood joint. Just fantastic and somehow getting better and better...
Incredible food and atmosphere. The scallops were especially fresh and unique
This place feels like you’re dining in someone’s living room and the staff is so warm and welcoming. The food is delicious and creative and the wine selection is great. Come hungry and order 5-6 items to share on the menu! You cannot go wrong with any choice, but our favorite was the beef tartare.
Cute little restaurant with very limited seats, they take outstanding local quality ingredients and beautify them with unexpected yet delicious and perfectly executed associations. And on top of it they have a great wine list, ask for their recommendation, they know what they do and they’ll recommend something to please you. This is the type of place you want to keep for yourself because it’s just so good, but the time behind that little gem deserves to be known ! I had an amazing time, I’ll be back for a date night with my husband, a quality time with my best friend or even with a larger group to celebrate!
Went here with just 2 people. Food is unique, well seasoned and memorable. The vibe is more European cafe, and feels like everyone in the dining room might know each other. Perfect for a date night or a catch up with friends over a funky bottle of wine you might not get elsewhere.
Fradei was one of the first restaurants we dined at after moving to Brooklyn, and it has remained our favorite restaurant after trying many others in the area in the last 3 years. Their seasonal menus feature locally-sourced creative dishes that are always well-balanced and mouthwatering. We are pescatarian and have found that Fradei has the most variety of elevated vegetable dishes around (not to mention incredible seafood)- highly recommend for vegetarians and omnivores alike! The unique and ever-changing menu feels like it came from a michelin star restaurant, but you get the relaxed and intimate atmosphere of a french bistro with great music. We love the owner and staff too- they always help us pick out a lovely natural wine. Can't recommend this place enough.
I went to Fradei with a friend who works in the food and beverage industry and who raved about it. And he was right. It really is something special. Fradei serves a tasting menu with no notice of what's on offer. All dishes are a surprise. So it is really a true foodie paradise and maybe not a first choice for picky eaters. I loved it. Food was full of flavor and variety and the wine also highlighted beautiful "off-the-beaten-path" bottles. Fradei is tiny and charming for that. The whole staff consisted of 4 people, the 2 chefs are American and the owners hail from France and Italy and cover most all of the other tasks at the restaurant. Warning: it is hard to get a reservation here, but well worth it if you do. I had an utterly memorable night and would go again any time.
Went in without knowing much about the place, left impressed with the food, wine, and service. The garganelli with asparagus and trout roe was perfection, a bold move with eel that was delightful, fantastic tartare, top tier bread, and just an overall good time. Even the blind wine choices were right on point. Will return soon.
Amazing food and great service. The best of Europe merged with the best of NYC (and the surrounding farms). We had 6 different dishes and all were off the charts. That sort of consistency is hard to come by. Get to know the staff and it'll make your dining experience even more memorable!
Loved this restaurant and Chef Sam’s take on food. The simplicity is deceiving as there are wonderful underlying flavors in each dish without heavy sauces or too much on the plate. It’s an adventure in eating… the 6 course tasting changes once a month. Good wine list and great service, can’t wait to come back. Thank you Sam, and your waiters for taking such good care of Louise and me!
Amazing wine, super kind staff, amazing food and awesome experience overall. What an sweet little spot. Overall trust the staff when they recommend something- everything our server recommended were the best thing we ate tonight.
I really enjoyed my meal here. Thought everything was well prepared, i had many flavor combos that I haven't had before. I think the standouts were the soppressata that they sourced from a small farm in Indianapolis, super good, and of course they serve it with a la bicyclette baguette so you know they know what's good. I think the agnolotti is very good. The cooking on the pasta itself was al dente in a way that almost made you feel like you're eating something that isn't quite pasta. I loved it I thought it was very unique well done and just delicious. Would go back for that alone. Also their maple celery root ice cream is excellent. It isn't just novel, it's a freaking good pairing. The maple syrup is such a good quality, very flavorful not too sweet or syrupy. And it's topped with caramelized white chocolate. Insane!!!
Went here last night with my sister for dinner and we both absolutely loved both the food and service. We are both vegetarian and had plenty of delicious options to choose from. Can't wait to return!
Cozy little hidden gem with just a few tables and a great mix of wine bar and authentic restaurant vibes. The menu is small but every dish was delicious — definitely order sharing style! Highlights were the scallops, squash toast, and pork. The only downside was the waitress reminding us about the 1.5-hour limit five times before we even ordered, which wasn’t the nicest. Otherwise, amazing food and atmosphere!
Outstanding. Stunning flavours, beautiful presentation and a genuine care for cuisine. I don’t give 5 stars lightly. The chef is clearly very passionate. Recommend 5-6 plates. The waiters are super helpful to ask. You need to book in advance - unlikely to be able to turn up and get a spot. This place is now a favourite for me and my husband. Only negative comment is wasn’t any non-alcoholic options. Trying for a baby so would have been nice to have something to drink other than water.
We had a fantastic dining experience! This place is welcoming, The food was incredible — we tried almost everything on the seasonal menu and honestly couldn’t pick a favorite. Being served by the owner added a personal touch that made the night even more special. Can’t wait to come back!
this hole in the wall gem is the cutest piece of paris in new york. a cozy and intimate wine bar in brooklyn. come here for drinks or dinner before a nets game if you can. the staff and atmosphere are next level and the wine and food are just as amazing. we got the pak choi (sneaky star of the show), scallops with apple, lemon, and fig oil (so much flavor and so creative), crab toast (amazing) and agnolotti (bursting with flavor). every dish was amazing and the wine was perfect. i’d go back any day.
Our best dining experience in 2025, as my partner puts it accurately! The food is phenomenal, and I am genuinely surprised how come there is no heat around this place on the social media! The dishes were so yummy that I couldn’t choose a favourite one! The trout was insane, the combination of ingredients in the grilled parsnips was mind blowing, the pasta was so good that you wanted it to never end, and the sauce for the crab toast was one of the closest ones I’ve tried to the unmatched sauce from Theodora! Also, I have never been a fan of apple pies or tarts, but these guys know what they’re doing! I admire the chef’s risk taking skills in coming up with strange sounding and yet amazing combinations: who would think of pepper and ice cream? We will be back no doubt SECOND VISIT: These people know indeed what they’re doing The grilled cabbage is a must try!
This place was recommended by a food loving friend and it did not disappoint. Intimate and casual setting with well executed food and an extensive wine list. Our favorite dishes were the mussel toast, the halibut and the pasta with Jonah crab. Also, the texture on the honey cake was unexpectedly light. A lovely dessert! It's very small space, but they seem to keep seats at the bar for walk-ins. I would definitely book a reservation.
The intimate space is warm and inviting, and might be the smallest restaurant I have ever seen, in the best way. Book a resy here for a romantic date night or the perfect evening of exploring natural wines with good food and friends. Food: •Red Endive - This salad was insanely good and definitely inspired me to try to recreate it at home. Served with bon bon dates, tango mandarin, and verbena. Each leaf was perfectly coated with the most delicate and flavorful dressing. So perfect •Yellowfin Tuna - Amazing quality tuna served with a lovely horseradish cream. Definitely get this! •Bucatini - This nautical pasta had calatura di alici, dulse, and egg yolk woven throughout. Very delicious if you are looking for seafood pasta vibes. •Sunchoke Scarpinocc - This pasta was seriously delicious with chestnut, chanterelles, and pecorino. Perfect comforting pasta dish for a rainy night. Drinks: I started with a glass of Ca'Liptra Arancio made with 70% Malvasia Toscana, 27% Trebbiano Toscano, and 3% Sangiovese from their estate in Cupramontana, one of the highest-quality villages in Verdiccio die Castelli di Jesi. This wine offered a great balance between delicate aromatics and grippy tannins from the skin contact. I also tried an amazing Chardonnay from La Fermented e Jeanne in Bugey. I think this is only the second Chardonnay I have trie from Bugey, and it might be one of my favorite places for this grape. Perfect tension between a round, oily texture and razor sharp acidity, alongside some stellar aromatics. I am always down for some Bugey. Ended the night with a lovely blend of 50% Mencia and 50% Albarin Tinto from the Asturias region of Spain.
Natural wines, creative food and a relaxed, curated experience make this Brooklyn restaurant ideal for an evening amongst friends or a romantic date. The staff is friendly and are happy to help guide your wine choices. The food menu changes seasonally throughout the month, so be prepared to make many trips throughout the year to try new additions as they appear. Try to snag an outdoor seat in the summertime! Pro-tip: reservations highly recommended given the small, intimate space.
one of my all time favorite restaurants, fradei hits the mark every time. the food is remarkable and unique, the service is impeccable, the restaurant inside is small and quaint and absolutely perfect for the experience, i cannot rave enough about this place! also a wine pairing for $55?! EASY choice, and they do it beautifully. I’m surprised they don’t have a michelin star yet, but you will not be disappointed here!
I never had Italian food that was this original. All the dishes look simple, but they're deceivingly original and carefully crafted to produce a unique tasting experience of flavors, textures, and visuals. The staff is very chill and the 80s music helps you flow through the 5 courses. I especially loved the dessert, smoked fish, and the vegetables, but everything was good.
Despite the small (spotless clean) kitchen, Chef Sam was still able to create and orchestrate delicious tasting menu for 20 plus dinners per seating. Our tasting menu comprised of spinach chips with goat cheese dip, raw scallops with sauerkraut, foie gras with brioche and pickled Maitake mushroom, housemade cavatelli with fermented squash, Calabria chili and pistachios, roasted celeriac with shallots, melted Mont D’Or cheese with black truffle served with housemade sourdough and dessert was Burlaandbarrel spice cakes. Our favorite dishes were the Cavatelli. The texture of the pasta was chewy and fresh. The sauce was umami with the crunchy pistachios added depth. The warm and fragrance of the Mont D’Or cheese lighted up the intimate dining room. The cheese was complex and full of flavor from the French Alps. Great and friendly service! The wines were on the more expensive side. The Sommelier didn’t get what we liked and recommended a bottle that was drinkable but didn’t have complexity. That was the only disappointment. Music was a bit loud maybe because we were older than the rest of the dinners.
Lovely night at Fradei. Staff is kind, knowledgeable, and attentive without getting in the way of conversation and the intimate setting with amazing food. Highly recommend going for the wine pairing, it's $50 per head with 5 or so "half glasses" that felt like full servings. What a great addition to our food loving neighborhood. I'll be back soon!
I’ve lived in the neighborhood for 8 years and I’ve seen a FEW places come and go but the restaurants for the most part, besides a few exceptions, are nothing special in Fort Greene. Then along comes Fradei. Everything that you want it to be, it is. They present their dishes expertly. They are delicious. It’s the type of place where you take a bite and look up at the person eating with you with that look of “what’s IN this?!” The owners are kind and fun to have around. They transformed the previous space beautifully and I’m happy that it’s here, hopefully to stay.
If you like the 'new bistro' concept where the menu changes frequently and there are no choices then you should try Fradei. The food was hit or miss with the hits making up for the misses. The service is extremely informal, although this may be by design. There doesn't seem to be a pastry chef so don't get too excited for dessert.
A fantastic initial meal, but a disappointing second experience. I had an amazing meal from the team at Fradei shortly after their opening and NYTimes review. The owners are lovely and the chefs are terrifically creative. I still remember the cheeky take on sour cream and onion chips as an opener and their terrific wine list too. We advised the team of my gluten allergy ahead of time, and the owners and chefs made one or two great gluten-free substitutions to the menu-- at times completely different dishes, not just slight modifications (e.g. removing a pasta dish, for example). It was just perfect. Please note that they no longer accommodate allergies or aversions. If, for whatever reason, you're not 100% "normal," you might want to look elsewhere. My attempted second experience: I wanted to eat there again before I leave the city. I made a booking and the website asked me to "Please inform us of any allergies, aversions or dietary restrictions while making your reservation." It then continued, "We are sorry but we are unable to accommodate any Vegan, Gluten-free, Dairy-free or Egg restrictions." The team at Fradei did get in touch (to their credit before it was too late to cancel without financial penalty) to both confirm my allergy and that, despite the brilliance of the chefs in the past and the importance of flexibility, it was too much extra preparation to accommodate allergies or aversions. It was quite a disappointment, given the caliber of the team. And likely frustrating for many in the immediate community. But given an effort to support more covers per day and a more complex menu (both questionable, as their intimate simplicity were standout characteristics) any deviation isn't feasible. I'm sure it's still a fantastic spot to eat, if you're able to, but sadly it's no longer one for me.
We liked our tasting menu meal at Fradei. The servers were all really nice, and I really enjoyed all the wine pairings. I’m not sure I would completely rave about it. I went in expecting to be a bit more blown away and left feeling like it was a bit underwhelming for the price tag. There were some ingredients that felt a bit out of season, too acidic or tart, and I didn’t love sitting right next to the bathroom. For a $250+ meal I just wanted to love it a bit more.
Lovely neighborhood Fort Greene spot! Small place - would recommend making a res or walking in on a weekday evening. Great service and excellent wine selection. Meat and cheeses were a great start and we enjoyed the crab toast. Excited for the summer menu to roll out to come back and try again!
Great hidden treasure! Adorable small bistro, very much on theme. Good wine selection per bottle, small selection per glass. Food is very delicious-served beautifully. The tartar is absolutely amazing. My only complaint is the service. The female server seems moody, unfriendly. Music is a tad loud for the size of the bistro and for having conversations. No coffee or espresso for after dinner, which is a big no-no. Almost 5 stars for me….almost.
Fradei is impressive. The food was incredible, with unexpected yet delicious flavors, like in the wagyu beef tartare with sesame seeds. Please go try their food. The ambient is a little cramped and not much effort was put into the decor, which is fine. We had to wait for 30 minutes for our reserved tables, but service flowed wonderfully once we were sat down.
I had big expectations going to this establishment, but I didn't understand what all hype about. And it is not about the fact that the place is exceptionally small - have to give it to owners, very smart design and cozy feeling. Service was also on top - no complaints there. Wine we brought our own, but they have very reasonable wine list. But food - original, but lacking that "WOW" factor. Ratio - price / value doesn't exist. From 5 course dinner really liked one, two were OK, one not worthy to be called entrée dish, and desert was just OK. NYC has better places to offer for that price. May be we were unlucky and just hit poor choice of the menu, but wouldn't try our luck again. Good luck to owners, and try harder - just hype wouldn't last.
The 3 stars are for the good wine and decent meal. For a place that prides themselves as being reservations only and it being "hard" to get reservation to, our experience was mediocre. The food was good, but nothing out of the extraordinary. The servers were nice, but cleared our dessert plates when we weren't even finished and brought us our check and said "we have another reservation after you". There were 4 empty tables next to us.....Nice place, just not a place we are interested in coming back to for the price.
Grabbed a reservation here ahead of a concert at Barclay's - it had been on my "want to go" list. The restaurant is quite chilly; especially if you're seated near the door. The space only fits 14 guests total. The food was fine - the dishes are very pricey - a small cheese selection was nearly $20. I would recommend splitting the dishes if dining with another person. Overall, expect to pay $$$ for an OK meal.
We spent four hundred dollars on a menu that was almost thirty to forty minutes between small salad dishes. It’s designed as like a tapas place except everything comes out incredibly slowly. We ate seven small plates in 2.2 hours and the prominent spice was salt.
Our entree was wonderful, but the appetizers did not make any sense. They were so tiny in size, this wasn’t a 7 course chef tasting menu, but that is what the portion was like. Luckily the entree was an average size. We did not bother with dessert. Nothing on the menu for dessert looked like anything in the pictures. The other problem was how slow everything came out. A stack of cold cucumber slices should not take 20 minutes come out, especially in such a small restaurant.
Came here for a weekday date night at 9pm since it so hard to get reservations. Thought the food was pretty good but didn’t knock my socks off and it was pretty pricey / small portions. My favorite was the kumquat salad - really unique and a creative way to eat the fruit. I really didn’t enjoy the hard bread they served w the cheese.
Extremely disappointing. All the main courses were very bitter, similar, and uninspiring. The other 1 & 3 star reviews are spot on, the food is fine but nowhere near worth the hype or price. I’m not very picky at all, but I could only eat one bite of the pasta dish (tasted like olives drenched in vinegar). Stay away.
I have not yet eaten at this restaurant but wanted to share a bad customer service experience. This restaurant is double-dipping, it not only charges a higher-than-usual amount for the cancellation fees, but also take another customer for your table even you cancel it hours earlier, while still keeping the cancellation fees. Other restaurants are considerate and don't charge cancellation fees if they find a new customer for the booked slot, not this restaurant. Please be aware of this policy before you reserve.
I had a reservation at this place but my partner was working overtime so I could not make it and gave the restaurant a heads up, they couldn’t book another available date that was free so I chose one random date until I could figure out my calendar (and they didn’t have reservations at the time that I wanted). They sent me an email thereafter saying that they were going to charge my card $80 ($40pp) — Chase refunded this charge and this entire experience has truly left me incensed
Love the street corner and the ambiance. Great vibe and excellent / generous wine pairing is the secret here (and 55$). The food however is not the best for the hype and price. Tastes blended together between courses and the pasta was wildly undercooked with too much vinegar. The chicken was well prepared, but nothing special. Something like, Jua, for example has so much wow factor for a comparable price point.
Some of the best food I have ever tasted and I’m not adverse to a Michelin starred restaurant. It is just such a shame the hospitality is so off. We were turned away for being 15 minutes early. Laughed at for our wine choice (there’s predominantly a Chardonnay feel). Then offered lots of free drinks when we clearly displayed our upset. An amazing food restaurant that needs to rethink its front of house. Good luck the chefs deserve kudos.
Left Fradei feeling rather disappointed in the quality of food for the price point. At this point I would not recommend it to anyone. Considering the bracket in which they place themselves in ($90 multi course tasting menu) the competition outshines Fradei on multiple fronts. Here’s a breakdown: - Food: Nothing our tasting menu was memorable or in the ‘good’ category for the price point we had. Most of the dishes focused on pickled vegetables which was somewhat repetitive throughout the menu. We also were served no meat, which was fairly surprising given a $90 per person price. - Atmosphere: The ambiance of a small restaurant is cozy, but it does not present the feeling of a location where you’d be having an upscale tasting menu. There’s a cheap curtain separating the door from the dining room draped on the floor that I almost tripped on when leaving the restaurant. - Staff: The staff were friendly and casual, but we felt the attention to detail was lacking & minor things you’d expect at a restaurant in that price bracket. If you’re wondering on how I derived these feelings, I’m placing Fradei in a league of upscale restaurants for a similar price point. A simple visit to Crown Shy in fidi for example highlights a lot of these flaws in terms of expectations (albeit not a full tasting menu, but you could course a few large dishes for the same price point especially with more than one guest).
