I am writing this review after frequenting the Sports Garden DFW several times since the new ownership took over last year. It is greatly improved from the volleyball club of 10 years ago. It was "a place to play volleyball" back then, and they've done an excellent job of taking it to the next level and now offering a bar that is a place to play volleyball, as well as a great place to go watch bands, shoot pool or just hang out. The indoor area where the band stage is offers plenty of space to move about without being overly crowded, even when watching a band like Le Freak which I saw there several weeks ago. Overall, it's now a great venue and a good addition to the Valley Ranch area. I was told that the renovations have just begun, and there are great things and improvements in store for what is already a big improvement over the old Yucatán. The only food that I tried there was the thin-crust pizza and it was very good, as bar pizza goes. They also had a good selection of beer to choose from, including some micro-brews. Overall, a great alternative to visit, In lieu of driving down to Dallas or up to Frisco to find a good place to go out in the burbs.

Pool, darts, tvs, sand volleyball, axe throwing, and decent drink specials. Why are you even still reading this? People are friendly, staff are super chill, showers for when you're done being sandy, and a decent sized parking lot. Never had an issue there

This Sports Bar is HUGE! It has sooo MANY screens! The Chicken wings and Loaded Fries are scrumptiously delicious! It doesn't just stop there, you can go outside to play volleyball! You can have volleyball tournaments! There's a Bar outside as well! I believe you can Axe Throw there.

This is a a fun place to go on Fridays to play volleyball. They have multiple courts so that many people can go. The north side is available for reservations and the south side is free for anyone. They are open until 12AM and the fee to get in is $6

What a fun place. Really enjoyed the outdoor sand volleyball courts. When it got a bit chilly, the heaters at the outdoor bar were a great place to hang out until the next game. The staff was super friendly and the food was great.

Great venue for sand volleyball and dart leagues. Weekends are alive with tournaments. Low to high level competition with great people. Typical bar menu+ quite good.

Although it took a LONG time to get my food, it was worth the wait. Brisket quesadilla was delicious. Early afternoon on a Sunday so drinks were out within mere moments of ordering. 😊

Really great atmosphere, the place is larger than it looks from the outside due to its volleyball courts. Staff was extremely friendly, the live entertainment was great to listen to, and the food and drinks were a decent price.

I had the opportunity to attend a volleyball clinic last week and it was an amazing experience. The clinic was hosted by Jordan who had a wealth of knowledge in the sport. He was not only knowledgeable but also passionate about volleyball, and this made the clinic even more exciting. The clinic was well-organized and structured, with a good balance between theory and practical sessions. The practical sessions were the highlight of the clinic. We had the opportunity to put into practice what we had learned during the theory sessions. Jordan gave us individual feedback on our techniques and provided us with tips on how to improve. We also had the opportunity to play games after and the coach was always there to provide guidance and encouragement. Another great thing about the clinic was the opportunity to meet new people who share a passion for volleyball. We were all able to learn from each other and make new friends. Overall, I would highly recommend this volleyball clinic to anyone who wants to improve their skills in the sport. Jordan and Tim were excellent, the organization was superb, and the practical sessions were amazing. I left the clinic feeling more confident in my skills and motivated to continue practicing.

It is a cool laidback atmosphere, great prices for food & drinks, games, pool, music. You won't be disappointed. Make sure to TRY THE WINGS!!!! My company had our end of year meeting here and I worked with Margo the events coordinator who made this process smooth and easy. Along with her creative ideas with helping me setup and never letting me get thirsty! :O) Kevin (server), Woody (chef), Erin and Nikki (bartenders). They all were GREAT!

I LOVE SG!!! Great staff and fun environment!! I come here a few times a week to play tournaments with friends or do open play and I really enjoy it. There are darts inside, pool tables, and plenty of big screens to watch games at was well. Plenty of courts too!

This place has a lot of beach volleyball courts & a lot of people to play with. Didn’t love my mixed drink, really didn’t love that I can’t bring my own water in, didn’t love the bugs. However, there’s no place like this in dallas.

Two thumbs up for Coach Jordan! I've attended a few of the group sand volleyball lessons with Jordan and it's been an incredible experience. Despite being a beginner, I've never once felt out of place or intimidated as Jordan has created a supportive and inclusive environment that allows everyone to learn and grow at their own pace. Jordan is an excellent instructor who is incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about sand volleyball, and it shows in the way he teaches and interacts with his students - always uplifting and engaging. I highly recommend attending these lessons for anyone looking to improve their sand volleyball skills or just looking for a fun and engaging way to stay active.

Came here for a company party and the place was amazing. The staff is super friendly and helpful. The place was a lot of fun too. They have so much to do there. The alcohol drinks are a little on the pricey side.

C
Cody Hooten

Awesome place to play league volleyball or even just come on the weekend and grab a pick up game. The sand is in great condition and there are around 15 courts. You can rent volleyballs there for free or bring your own and they even have darts and pool inside. They won't allow out side food or drink so be warned now or throw it out when you get there but they have to make money so I understand. Food is actually really good there and the drinks are well priced.

Fun out door experience. Misting fans at the seating areas would be a nice touch only because Texas is satans kitchen in the summer but overall it’s a fun place to go!

I don’t write a lot of reviews, but my recent experience with the Sports Garden is definitely noteworthy. I needed a place to host a memorial gathering for the death of my best friend of 20+ years, and I could not ha e asked for a better venue. The studio was large enough to accommodate 200 ppl, but I only needed 30 or so. I was able to run a slideshow on their projector to a huge screen, which was the biggest hit of the night. Everyone could see from anywhere in the room. We had fajitas catered, and they were delicious! The staff was amazing and they took care of us with the highest level of customer service, which really left a lasting impression on everyone that had never been there before, as well as those of us who had. Some of us stayed a little later than others, and we enjoyed each other’s company while playing darts, cornhole, pool, shuffleboard, and watching the Mavericks game in the 28’ screen. (I think they said 28’, it was so big it didn’t matter if that was correct!). It was such a warm, welcoming, and friendly atmosphere, and I couldn’t have asked for a better place for this event. These memories will last forever, and I can’t recommend the Sports Garden highly enough for your next event.

C

Was great! Really glad this place is back at it with volleyball. Only $5 dollars for free play and the staff is very friendly. Courts are in good shape and height can be adjusted accordingly. Courts fill up quick to make sure you're there right when freeplay begins.

Great place to visit if you love sand volleyball. I attended as a vendor (Lucky Cat Designs) at an event there. My car was hit in the parking lot but the person left their information and their insurance took care of it. Even their patrons are considerate.

Jordan Wendelken runs weekly clinics to help volleyball players of all levels learn and improve their skills. You can sign up for any number of these affordable clinics, no long term committment required. You will learn skills and then practice those skills in a game of side out or mini tourney. It is the most fun I've ever had while practicing my skills. It is also a great opportunity to meet team mates for leagues or tournaments. I highly recommend it for anyone wanting to improve their game.

This place is truly the best if you want to play sand volleyball with a great atmosphere! They offer fantastic drinks, and the volleyball courts are maintained. What truly sets this place apart is the owner's genuine care for the guests. When I had a flat tire in the parking lot, Marty did not hesitate to help me out with putting on my spare. His willingness to help was a testament to the community spirit of his business. It's not often you find an owner who goes above and beyond to ensure their guests' well-being.

South courts are on the left north courts are on the right. South is open until 11pm north stays open until midnight. North side is more for league play, the sand is maintained a little better, with larger bar area. Both courts are a blast enjoy and always fun.

Great spot to play some casual games of volleyball, with lots of open courts (especially when both sides are open). Bring your own group or go for one of the Meetup nights, as it’s not always easy to just join a group as a partial team. Nice staff and well-run place that always brings a lot of fun.

Great Sports Bar & Volleyball facility. They have totally renovated this place over the last few years inside and out. Nice inside with multiple TV's and a monster 28 FOOT 4K TV projector and great sound. Kitchen has been completely upgrade and includes sandwiches, pizza, salads, and burgers 🍔. I absolutely love this place. My friends and I go almost every Monday and Friday. We usually play on the south side for open play. The staff is extremely nice and it is a good no drinking activity, but if you like to drink they have a bar as well. The drinks are pretty cheap. They do have another side ( north side). This side has a full bar and food. We usually do not play on this side because there are not as many open courts and we have made many friends on the south side. If you are looking to make new friends this is also the place to go.

It's always a good time. 8 bucks to get in, they serve alcohol, so you need ID. There are lots of courts. One across the street as well, admission is granted with your bracelet.

C
Cap

The main attraction is the beach volleyball court although you aren't allowed to bring your own water and end up having to buy bottles for $1.50 each. Understandable but I feel like there could be a better system for this.

M
Michael Woodruff

Fun place to get together and play some sand vball. Been going there for years. Minimal effort would bring it to the forefront of sand vball avenues in dfw. New hoses around the courts, better showers on the south side, proper net heights on all courts except maybe one or two reserved for lower level play. Just thoughts, but overall that where people have been going for years, just would love to see some updates.

V
Vignesh AR

I go here every Friday evening for the volleyball nights..it's amazing, I love it! The bar is right there if you wanna get a drink or two..so who wouldn't like this? Just that these days there are too many small stones in the courts..kinda gets uncomfortable while playing..I wish they could get rid of those.

M
M Caulfield

Good food (burgers or club sandwiches), reasonably priced drinks. Free volleyball courts. Pool tables, dart boards, a small swimming pool and drinking patio. Downside: smoky inside, mural is gone outside and they need more plants, ivy, etc. A live band would add a nice touch. Go to the bar for service. Otherwise, you'll be waiting a long time. Once you have a tab, however, they're pretty good if they're not swamped.

A
Ashima Gupta

It's a hidden gem. 2 things could be better: Quarters are needed for the pool tables like an arcade and there is no change machine or other option. Also menu could be improved to include healthier choices with vegetables.

C
Christopher Ah Leong, Esq.

New ownership has done an terrific job on revitalization of everything! Only aspect still needing improvement is the kitchen and ticket times. Food is decent, but takes forever!

R
Ron Bruce

The staff is friendly and helpful. They have a small first aid kit if you hurt a toe or knee. The outdoor seating (picnic tables) are old, short, and rickety.

J
Jennifer C

$1 pool and $5.50 for Jack on the rocks. Overall decent atmosphere. Darts available and the volleyball area is nice and secluded. Making if fun to watch even if not playing.

H
Hazael Vega

It is hard to find, but it exists and it’s very fun. It also feels safe and the atmosphere is good

W
Wes Nemec

Very annoying, they do not allow you to bring in your own water bottle and force you to buy water if you need to drink anything. They do give you a small standard plastic water bottle which isnt really enough but better than nothing… but if you say anything about needing water they will guilt trip the hell out of you saying they’ll “lose their liquor license and lose their jobs” if you bring your water in. So just be prepared for that. Otherwise this place is pretty good for playing volleyball, there are a lot of courts and they are well lit, there’s a lot of space and a lot of people there on Friday night. You could probably come on your own and just ask to join someone and if they’re not necessarily a closed group you could get some games in. Open play is $5, they charge you at the door to enter.

N
Navid N

The concept is great. +12 well kept sand volley courts available alongside hospitable bar crew ready to serve refreshments. Very positive attitude amongst all people felt here. Easy to park.

C
Christine Borel

Plenty of space to play sand volleyball! Our teams, from Smoothie King Co.,really have a blast here!

T
Tim Anderson

This location is comparable to Sports Garden DFW, which is across the street. The one across the street has better sand courts and seating, but both locations are fine. The place charges $5 to play sand volleyball and gives each player one cold half liter bottle of water. Monday, August 19 after 7 was a busy time for this location, so perhaps Monday nights are a good time to come here. Pickup games can be easily found.

T
Todd Chin

Great place to play some volleyball in the sand with the luxury of grabbing a cold one to cool you off in the blazing sun. There are 2 locations: north and south. It has a neighborhood feel about it. Not the newest venue but it’s more of the people that make this place so special. The bar on the north side is a place where you can watch your favorite sport teams and or play volleyball while the south side is more volleyball focused. So invite some family and friends and enjoy yourselves.

T
Tristan Hawkes

The competition is fun but the rule you can't bring in any water even if sealed is not great for me. Having to walk out in-between games for water and still needing a bucket or two is gross. I understand the business idea and honestly the price is good. But im a cheapskate. Just know! Everything else is pretty nice and definitely the most fun volleyball in the area

C
Chris Daynos

Good pretty cheap, need to update spreadsheet more often

S
Sean Owens

Had a great time here. So many courts, so many people. While they do have leagues that play here very regularly, it seems you can almost always find an open court. If you are looking for pick up, it's definitely not guaranteed you'll find a game or group to play with every night, but it's the best chance you have in Dallas. Courts are very well maintained and sand is comfortable compactong sand that makes it easy to play for hours without blisters The bartenders I interacted with were all very fun, and entertaining people. The food was normal bar food not bad but nothing to phone home about.

M
Malcolm

This place has been around forever. It's a cool venue, but they are a little too proud of their drink prices. Food is mediocre bar food, and the restroom on the inside could desperately use some plumbing work to get rid of the sewage smell. Staff was friendly & professional.

K
Karolina

Great place for drinks and volleyball, great atmosphere and service but Trivia took like 4 hours (no joke) when we went last time. Seemed like a lot of regulars who were cool with it but it was just way too long for a casual night out when you work next day.

Q
Que Morgan

Great space to watch ANY game! Your favorite team is welcomed with slight ridicule only because you're in COWBOY territory. If you don't like it... go outside and play in the sand!

Tukumba Hood
Tukumba Hood

Was here for the AAGD Volleyball tournament and it was quite fun as it's not just a sand volleyball facility. Had never been here or what exactly it was, but it has a bar and food, so I found out that no outside drinks were allowed. They were gracious and I was able to leave all of my drinks behind the front counter and pick them up when I left (a lot of drinks were bright by others as well from the stash I saw lol). Even the General Manager (or maybe she said Asst. General Manager) was in on providing transport to the overflow parking across the street. The play areas were nice (court 10 needs help) and the overall experience was fun.

Cheryl Corrigan
Cheryl Corrigan

Sand Volleyball! More nets than anywhere in the DFW area. There are courts north and south of Belt Line Road. Both areas have full bars with buckets of water bottles. No outside food or drinks and bags are checked. There is a full restaurant to dine in, take out, or eat courtside. Sand is not as deep on the Southside courts, but definitely tolerable. Great place to enjoy sand volleyball! 4 stars instead of 5 because it's a bit run down and in need of tidying up.

Fabo Novoa
Fabo Novoa

From the outside this place looks just like a bar but it is quite large and it houses both a bar and several volleyball courts. On Sundays they organize a meetup where you can come and play for several hours for $6. On average there are between 30 to 50 players so it's an excellent place to practice the sport and make friends. The bar has a stage and thus it's likely that they may have live music. Outside food or drinks are not allowed

J
Jt Fiji

3 stars only because the staff is friendly and the food is good. This would be a great place for volleyball if the patrons weren't so insufferable. We went to play pick-up and couldn't even get onto a court because they were packed and nobody was willing to add anyone to their group. Super stuck up players who will take the courts from open-close and refuse to let anyone else play. It is a waste of time to go here for pick-up; join their leagues so that you have a reserved court.

J
Jeff Schuler

I got there at 8:45am. The dining room hadn't been cleaned from the day prior. There were food crumbs and dried spots from liquids on tables and chairs. The floor was a disaster. The soft drink dispenser hadn't been cleaned. There is a stainless steel lid holder that had not been cleaned for a very long time. There was dirt and crumbs built up in the bottom of this holder with new cup lids sitting on top of this filth. I don't know what happen to this store. This has always been my go to Whataburger. I would like to continue visiting if these conditions improve.

Great place to play volleyball. The people who work at the bar are extremely rude. The last two times I called them they would give one word answers to my questions. On my most recent call they hung up on me.

Went for the Bears vs Packers game. The venue was okay, although it was cold outside I can see how the outside is their main attraction. However giving 3 stars cause the food was horrible. Me and my guest didn't like anything we ordered except for the salsa.

Customer service needs work. Also why do they need to check my ID at the door if kids are allowed in? I do not drink alcohol... Courts are okay condition

Manuel F. Aguinaga
Manuel F. Aguinaga

UPDATED: The lady up front that checks for IDs seems to abuse her power a bit. She turned away my teammate that has played there far longer than I have for not having his ID. We weren't there to drink. Our company pays for us to play in the league. She should have marked him "X"s or something and let him in. Right before my teammate was asked for his ID by the lady, she let two other people in without checking their IDs. My company has been nice enough to pay for volleyball league in Thursdays. It's always a blast! They have a great vibe and good drink selection. 10/10.

Normally I enjoy this place but I don't know if it is new ownership (Apparently they are on their 4th owner in a short period of time and she is not doing so great either. This place is going down hill) or what but Friday night my friends and I waited over an hour for our food despite reminding them a few times. Finally i went in to the bar and bc our waiter was clearly out of it and not retaining anything I was telling him (Jared I believe was his name). No one knew about our orders or claimed to have even taken them, the food that finally did come out was wrong, no one cared or corrected it. I was told the kitchen was closed when I told them they STILL did not have one of our orders out (as if this was our fault despite placing the order about an hour prior to the kitchen closing time.) This biggest problem though was the attitude of the staff. No one cared at all, including the Manager, SAM, who seemed drunk and out of it as well. Sam took no ownership for the staff's behavior stating "those are not MY servers." When i asked to speak with him he came up leaning on a wall completely ignoring my friends and I trying to avoid the confrontation. I had to approach him and ASK if he was the manager. If I were an owner I would NOT want this guy "managing" my place of business. On the way out the bar tender, MORGAN, made a snide remark asking my friend if he liked his burger, suggesting that they did something to his food. My friend felt sick after eating the burger. SAM, the not so great manager or human being, did not care. NO ONE CARED. Wait staff (JARED) (if you can all them that), bartender (MORGAN), or manager(SAM). I was then told to contact the owner but if these are the type of people the owner hires what is she like??? Feels like a colossal waste of time if you ask me. I love hanging out with my friends outside playing sports but at this cost??? There are plenty of other places to go and have a good time where people care about customer service and have better music. 15 yr olds up on stage screaming at the top of their lungs Satan worshipping, Marilyn Manson type of music is not appealing either. GO EXPECTING NOTHING FROM THIS PLACE AND YOU SHOULD BE FINE

M
Melissa Stewart

Very basic bar with very few food options. There is a sand volleyball field with multiple places to play. There is a bar out back do you dont have to keep coming back to the main bar for drinks. The staff is lazy and inattentive up front. Our waitress sat at th he bar and we had to go get her for more beer and drinks. People love the sand volleyball and its something different to do.

D
Doug Lees

I was not impressed. This is a Volleyball Facility, which I knew in advance. I didn't expect the inside bartender's attitude when I arrived with a friend of mine to get a burger and a couple beers and we were the only two people at the inside bar. I sure didn't feel welcome and will try to not return. They seem to have plenty of business and won't miss me at all.

S
Sequeezey

It came under new management lately and it wasn't very good last time I went. It cost $5 just to get in the door, and you don't get a drink with it anymore. The sand is really rough and has a lot of rocks. If you don't bring your own ball you can rent one from the bar- but they were all flat. Overall the experience has really declined a lot.

My friends and I enjoyed playing at Sports Garden in our new volleyball league this past week. The courts were well maintained and had pretty good lighting. It’s great to have the option to have post game beers if we want as well. Overall the place was a cool vibe. BUT, and this is a Texas-sized BUT, there’s one glaring issue that sucks the joy right out of the place: they don’t allow outside water. Yep, you read that right. No BYOW (Bring Your Own Water). And if you’re hoping for a free water station to keep you from passing out in the 100-degree heat, think again. They’ll gladly sell you a bottle, but they won’t give you a sip unless you pay for it. Unfortunately in the state of Texas this is not illegal (yes I Googled it) but it is morally wrong. Forcing players (who have already paid for court access) to pay extra just to hydrate isn’t just inconvenient; it’s irresponsible. Our league is already paying to play here. Not letting players bring water, especially in the brutal Texas heat, is a player safety issue. It’s also greedy to use that as an opportunity to maximize profits. I’m guessing Ebenezer Scrooge owns this place… I love the vibe, the courts, and the post-game beers. But please, Sports Garden, put player safety ahead of profit margins. Until then, I’ll continue begrudgingly showing up with my league with a flask of water hidden like contraband in my sock.

This place is Ok at best but the reason I am giving a two star is the absolutely unkind lady that checks IDs and bags upfront specifically on 06/17. I understand there are rules that I have to abide by but the energy I was given when asking simple questions to make sure I was doing the right thing was unfair. I am not a child, our company pays a large amount of money to give the employees an opportunity to bond and none of them deserve to be treated less than.

I have never been to this place and thankfully this is not the only bar around this area as I will not be back. Came here for a friends bday and her bf was playing in the band called "Hillside". I would like to start out by saying that the atmosphere was way cool, very large, huge bar, and many places to sit or stand. This is a great space but the people working the bar have no idea what they're doing/ know how to prioritize customers. Lots of standing around waiting on the one bartender to supply drinks to an empty bar. Just baffling. The pours are awful and even the selection of the pours are even worse. I ordered a jager bomb, maybe I've been spoiled t other bars but last time I remember a bomb being at least an 8 oz drink? Not 1 oz jager and 2 oz of red bull? Sent it back and I was very appreciative and friendly to the bartender when she agreed to make another. I literally was presented with maybe an extra 1.5 oz. Then she charged me $12 for a 4.5oz drink??? You're kidding right? I am sure this is a great place and I had fun no matter what. But especially on a Friday night you best have your best bartenders on staff. Won't recommend or be back.

This place is a dump. It has been and will be. The roof leaks from 10 places when it rains. If the same people that were running La Playa have anything to do with it, they are crooks. Bad service, bad atmosphere, crippling building. Do yourself a favor and stay home.

I would give it 0 stars if I could. The place is worn down and the leagues are over priced. There is an awful sewage smell every time you go, clearly an issue they are choosing to ignore. The lack of communication and care about their participants is even worse. They would rather put players health at risk than cancel a game, unacceptable.

They have listed that they close at 1AM, but they kick you out when there aren’t any “business” and shut down early. I paid to stay there till midnight at-least.. it is a Saturday night and I’m trying to enjoy it with the boys but you cut it off early ruining the rest of the night. Not my fault you people aren’t doing well consistent customers, it shows why you don’t have business you take peoples money to scam them.

The front desk lady is super rude, someone needs to remind her people are just there to play volleyball. She didn’t let one of my teammates in (despite playing there for 2 years now) because they didn't have their IDs with them at the moment and had to drive home 1 hour right after getting there. Id’s are so people are allowed to drink, never to play volleyball, just mark them so they cannot buy alcohol!!! But do not prohibit their entrance. She also doesn’t ask for ids to everyone, it’s only whoever she wants. Doesn’t seem very fair.

We were there for a tournament. the courts are nice, but the workers are rude, and the bartender was rude as well. overall wasn't happy I even spent any type of money there. They went through our things to remove a water container outside. I understand their rules. But it was a tourney..being there 9 hrs isn't fun. Will never go again. Unless my team plays there. Don't recommend.

The place is amazing and great volleyball vibes. Although the staff are very rude to customers. They have kicked us out multiple times before the time you guys are supposed to close. On a Saturday night it closes at 1, they started closing the lights off at 10:40-11. It is not right to take peoples money and not let them get their worth. It is the same guy that kicks out early to close your business. Get your staff in place. I don't pay to get kicked out before 11 when it closes at 1.

The front desk old lady was rude with us and assumed we had no ID, but was so polite to the other people with no id.
