The best Italian we had so far. We couldn't have enough of the bread and ordered more for carryout. Pasta fabulous texture and taste. Cauliflower great appetizer. Deserts wonderful too. Staff are so friendly and waiting time reasonable considering it is so popular. Absolutely revisit if we travel to SF again.
Loved everything about this place! We started with the arancini, crispy outside and perfectly cheesy inside. Then tried three pastas: vongole, rigatoni, and bucatini. Each had its own flavor, though the vongole was definitely the winner for me. The margherita pizza was light, flavorful, and had that perfect thin crust. Portions were generous too easily enough for all five of us to enjoy without feeling rushed or hungry. A great spot for real Italian comfort food!
As appetizers, we liked the cauliflower and the Tuscan kale salad. For the main course, I enjoyed the cannelloni. I tried my friends' mains, rigatoni and tagliatelle alla bolognese and they were tasty. All of us had a different glass of red wine, Montepulciano, Nero d'Avola Tenute, and Super Tuscan. All were reported to be tasty. Service at a Mano was attentive, and the atmosphere of the restaurant was bright and cheery. The noise level was acceptable for conversation.
Highly recommend. Was a great neighborhood, the restaurant was warm and inviting. We had a corporate team dinner and everything was delicious from the wine to the appetizers (the ricotta meatballs were a hit!) to the entrees. My favorite was the Brentwood corn ravioli. Will definitely be returning.
A Mano is a great place to have pasta and some Italian food. Grab a seat on the famous Hayes street, enjoy the cozy sunshine and breeze of wind is one of the enjoyable moments I have in the city. A Mano provides a variety of hand made pasta and pizza along with a few iconic appetizers. Two recommendations are Cauliflower and Ricotta Meatballs. The Cauliflower is baked with chili-lemon mixed sauce. And the Meatballs are juicy and flavorful with san marzano tomato made sauce. I enjoy every visit at a Mano with my family.
Very good Italian food served here. We ordered arancini to start, with three pastas: vongole, rigatoni, and bucatini. All of them were good, especially vongole, but I think the bucatini was too al dente for my taste. We also ordered a margherita pizza, which I really liked for its thin dough. The portion was more than enough for a party of five.
[4.7 / 5.0] Italian, hand-made pasta and pizza restaurant located in the heart of the Hayes Valley. Service was great, and the food was excellent as well. Food was more on a lighter, some would say healthier, style, and the drinks were refreshing as well. Lively atmosphere, and I would definitely revisit.
Our server Nick handled the very busy night like a Champ. We enjoyed the focaccia, pasta and dessert. The room was lively but the acoustics not so overpowering like they can be at a busy restaurant. The outdoor covered dining area looked like a great place to be even on a cool, SF night. Heat lamps were enjoyed by many!

Beyond delicious. Crowded but they found room for us (no reservation). Fast and excellent service.

The Ricotta Meatballs and the Tagliatelle were delicious. Avoid the Rigatoni though. It was chewy, heavy and unseasoned. We ordered beer and the glass was chilled and that was a nice touch! Great service overall.
Nice large Italian restaurant in the heart of Hayes Valley. Has lots of seating both indoors and outdoors, so it may be easier to get a table. Their menu isn't too long but it has some great pasta and pizza options. They also have a fairly long wine list.
a Mano literally means "by hand" in Italian, and they make pasta and pizza fresh daily. Atmosphere: A lively, family-style spot tucked into the chic neighborhood of Hayes Valley. There's seating both indoors and out. The 6 of us were seated at an outdoor table on a cold evening, but the heat lamp kept things comfortably warm. Food: Everyone raves about the pasta, but we found it fairly pedestrian. The real star of the menu is the pizza. The crust is Neapolitan-inspired: thin to medium in thickness, with just the right amount of chew. Not deep dish, not New York-style crisp. The edges are lightly blistered from a high-heat or wood-fired oven, giving it that subtle char and depth of flavor. We started with the Funghi and Bianca pizzas, then leaned back into the strike zone for another Funghi. The roasted mushrooms, which release their moisture in the oven and concentrate into a rich, almost meaty like flavor. Confit garlic permeates through the mushrooms, adding sweetness and another layer of depth to the flavor train without overpowering , while crescenza cheese melts into a soft, creamy layer. It's milder and looser than mozzarella, giving the pizza a lush, almost silky texture. I would come back just for this. But get it to go. And a special shout-out to the prosciutto. The color was spot-on. A deep rosy pink in the lean meat, exactly what you want from a well-cured ham. The creamy white fat along the edges was pure gold. Finished with a light drizzle of olive oil that gave it a gentle sheen... awe man, don't get between me and my fork. Service: This is where things felt a little strange. From our waiter to the food runners, the entire staff seemed guarded and oddly tense. No smiles, no warmth, almost as if everyone was on edge. Having spent time in restaurants myself, I've learned that the tone of service usually reflects the culture set from the top. It created kind of an unsettling vibe... borderline "Get Out" energy, which left us doubting if we would come back to dine in. Happy Eating!!
Here’s a 600-character English review for the popular Italian restaurant you visited: ⸻ This place is buzzing—and for good reason. The handmade pasta is next-level, prepared right in front of you with care and skill. Every dish was delicious, from the crispy arancini to the fresh clam pasta and seasonal pizza. The outdoor seating is a dream, spilling out onto the sidewalk with a laid-back, European vibe. We were lucky to visit on a sunny day, which made the whole experience even better. Great food, great vibe, and the perfect spot to enjoy a relaxed meal under the sky.
A Mano is a fantastic spot for Italian food in SF! The Rigatoni Ragu was absolutely delicious—perfectly cooked pasta with rich, flavorful sauce. The pizza was just as impressive, with a great crust and fresh toppings. On top of that, the service was excellent—friendly, attentive, and efficient. Definitely a place I’d return to. Highly recommend!

The food was very good. The ragu pasta was one of the best we ever had!! Excellent meat,, slowly cooked... generous portion. The salad fresh and crispy. The arancini was nice, but not our favorite.…
I went there once for lunch and didn’t find the food appealing on several levels. I ordered the arancini, which tasted very basic. The main course, radiatori, was unexpectedly greasy and a bit too salty. The chocolate mousse dessert was bland, and the hazelnuts on top were stale. As for the ambiance, there seemed to be a mix of regulars and ongoing business meetings. Overall, I wouldn’t recommend this place, especially if you’re a health conscious eater.
Came here to eat dinner before a performance at the SF Ballet. Bucatini and spaghetti were both decent. Outdoor seating is heated. However, the service was very poor. Our server skipped over our table three times despite coming by to check on adjacent tables. We had to flag him down loudly before he came over. There are plenty of other solid restaurants in the vicinity. I'd recommend picking a place with better service until this place improves.
This Hayes Valley restaurant has a cozy, casual vine with a crowd of mixed professionals. Food was pretty good for the most part — the short rib ragu was excellent, though the summer squash pizza was honestly a bit of a letdown. It didn’t have much flavor (even with the added egg) and got a bit over-clogged with ricotta. A Mano really hit a home run with their cocktails — both the Capitale and Bombo Miele brought a lot of sweet flavor (perfect for a summer night). Unfortunately, the service was a bit spotty, though I totally get that sometimes nights just go a little off-kilter. The restaurant wasn’t full, but we still struggled to get our waiter’s attention to put in orders and had our cocktails arrive halfway through appetizers (usually they come first). The waiter ended up spilling some red sauce on my leg while clearing the plates, and it took a few attempts to grab the check at the end of the night. Nothing egregious, but do feel like it could’ve been a bit of a smoother experience.
Standard, no frills, and decently portioned dishes but I personally prefer more flavor, especially for the Spaghetti Alla Vongole. Unfortunately I did not get the chance to try any of the desserts! I would not go out of my way to come back, but this is a good restaurant for those who like the ambiance of Hayes Valley and don't mind food that's not out of the ordinary.

This spot is rlly cute and great ambiance. Service was good. I think the food was average. The duck liver mousse was the best!
portion sizes are tiny, the taste is subpar, and it’s incredibly expensive considering those factors. the pastas we had were both very undercooked, and very hard to chew. the clam pasta was really bland and unappetizing. the margherita pizza we had was overcooked, came burnt to a crisp. the wings were super bland and tasteless. waiter was kind, though kept coming back and forth to tell us that there were no specials for the day, but then came back later to tell us that there were? meaning we had our appetizer at the end of the meal. timing for the dishes coming out were also weird, finished my pasta before who i was eating with got theirs. overall, sad experience considering the hefty bill :/
Disappointed. Previous meals and service were fantastic, but tonight was not very good. Food was okay, more cheese would have been nice. Another glass of wine would have been nice. The server doing more than taking our order and giving us the bill would have been nice. There are too many good restaurants for my wife and I to come back here.
Really wanted to like this place. The ambiance is lovely, location wonderful. But the food is like microwaved garbage. The Ragu was greasey and flavorless, the canneloni was inedible, oddly crispy, overly salty, and bitter. Arancini tasted like fish (?). I've had better meals on airlines. And when we mentioned how underwhelming the food was to the waiter he stared at us blankly and handed us the check. You'd think in that scenario they'd comp us at least one of the dishes or something, offer some sort of apology, or to make something else. Nothing. If you're looking for a nice place to catch up with a friend over a drink, great. But 0/10 on any food item.
