Reopened under new ownership. What I have tried so far is really good. Please give the new owners an opportunity and go try it.

It was very delicious. Definitely will go back. We had the beef chow fun and Mongolian beef. It was huge portions!
Food was so good, the portions were great! I totally recommend the fried chicken wings and chow mein.
there are eggrolls and crispy chicken wings are the best in Alameda highly recommend
New owners. Definitely better quality of food now!
I will drive 40 minutes both ways just for their eggplant tofu. The wonton soup is also exquisite. And you cannot imagine nicer people.
Last month I lucked out in finding a Chinese take-out place still open around 9:15pm when I was on my way back to S.F. after playing some golf at Corica Park. I ordered their special meat combo fried rice and wasn't expecting it to be so good & delicious w/fresh ingredients and very well-cooked. They gave me a lot of food in a big carton and did not skimp at all on the meat portions like many of the other Chinese restaurants-takeouts do. I was definitely full when I finished the meal. And the woman at the front counter was very friendly. The only reason I didn't give them 5-stars for Service was that I had to wait a long time for my order. But that was b/c they had some big orders to fill before me.

I could definitely say Gim’s is my favorite to-go restaurant in the whole of Bay Area and that says a lot!! Everything is really good but my favorite is the sweet & sour pork over rice. Lunch menu is cheaper so it’s better to order around that time. Now they have knick-knacks on the side available to purchase. Definitely will keep coming back to this hidden gem in Alameda! 😋👍🏼
Ordered delivery from Oakland and it was hot fresh chicken wings was so good I couldn’t eat them fast this might be my new Chinese place

Sad to see that they have closed permanently. Chinese comfort food at a reasonable price.
Gem's Chinese Restaurant in now my local favorite, and for good reason! The potstickers are a must-try, perfectly crispy on the outside and filled with a delicious savory filling. Their BBQ fried rice is another standout dish, generously packed with tender meat in every bite, making it incredibly satisfying. The family style interior and friendly staff only add to the experience, making every visit to Gem's feel special. Whether you're a longtime fan or a first-time visitor, Gem's Chinese Restaurant never disappoints!

Gave me wrong food then told me I was wrong when I stopped by on a different day. Details - Ordered crab ragoon shortly before closing over the phone. Was ready shortly after arriving to pickup, so I was happy because it was a last minute craving. At home I noticed they looked different than typical crab ragoon wraps and inside discovered they were egg rolls. You know, shredded vegetable filled egg rolls. On another day I stopped in thinking it was a simple misunderstanding and would get corrected while ordering a dinner combo. They confirmed they wrote crab ragoon on the ticket then told me I was wrong about what I ate. Evidently they changed their typical ragoon wrap into more egg roll style (cool enough) so she assumed I was mistaken. Except then I attempted to clarify, this was something I ate. When eating this flakey wrapped item, my eyes understood the ingredients observed inside the wraps. Colors, shapes, textures and the third dimensional objects they represented. Not a cream blend of any kind. No crab parts or filler of the like. It was mostly shredded vegetable parts. (Evidently I should have taken a photo of the insides too) After attempting to explain these minor (yet significant) details, she continued to tell me I was wrong. Well, I'm sorry to say this is where I decided to leave. My energy is better spent writing a review than arguing with someone over my grasp on reality. No Gim's Chinese tonight. You don't get my patronage after that exchange. The EGG ROLLS were tasty and flakey. -1 star for wrong order after writing it correctly. -1 star for arguing over something so ridiculous.

I’m sad to write this because this has been my local comfort food spot for Chinese food for the last 5 years! I called in an order for takeout after reviewing the menu listed here (the only place I could find a menu). I went to pick up my food and the total was almost DOUBLE what I was expecting to pay. Whut?! The woman at the register told me how much each item was and I told her that did not align with their menu prices listed on their google page. I pulled up their google page which was still open on my phone and showed her the prices listed ans asked her to honor the prices they advertise online here. She told me the prices on here are outdated and costs have gone up. Ok. I understand that however I also believe that if you raise your prices then it’s also your responsibility to update your prices online to reflect that. She refused to honor the prices shown here so I told her I wasn’t paying her seemingly made up prices and I left. I really hate wasting food like that, but I’m also not going to support a shop that isn’t honest about prices. Sorry you don’t just get to make up your prices and not honor what you list online and then expect to keep patrons. This small shop just lost the business of a 5-year loyal customer for good.

This was the worst Chinese I’ve had. Years ago this place had good food. Honey walnut prawns were served with peanuts! Really? All of the food was bland and just tasted like salt. Very disappointed! I threw out $65 of food after trying everything.
I had picked up food here some years ago and remember food being good. Not today..I ordered the shrimp egg rolls that were just ok. I ordered the Mongolian Beef from the picture on the wall. Beef looking to be the main ingredient of Mongolian Beef right? With green onions slightly cooked with a light sauce. What I received was primarily over cooked onions (not green onions) and very small amount of beef. It looked like onion spaghetti!! It was disgusting. I went back to show them what they cooked for me. She said onion was main ingredient since beef is very expensive right now. Well…I paid $36 for egg rolls, a bad Mongolian beef dish and chicken friend rice that was bad also. They used the smallest cheapest parts of the chicken. A refund for the Mongolian Beef would have been nice. I ate part of chicken fried rice because I was so hungry and picked out the chicken for my cat to eat. I’m not a chef but I have cooked Chinese much better than this. Overpriced bad food. She did apologize and offered to fix the dish but I wasn’t going to wait another 30 minutes. Wish I hadn’t given them the $5 tip either. So for $41. lesson learned and want to save someone else from this place. I hope they get it together.

We bought food here and specifically asked several times for it not to be spicy. In the end, we were simply misled — the dish was spicy anyway. It feels like the staff doesn’t care at all about customers’ requests: no matter what you say, they “know better” how you should eat. The food itself is mediocre and definitely not worth the price. What was especially disappointing was the amount of meat. In the container that was supposed to contain meat, there was barely any meat at all. The bottom was filled with rice, then a huge pile of onions, and only a few small pieces of meat on top. Essentially, this feels like misleading customers. Overall: poor quality, complete disregard for customer requests, and food that does not match its price.
This is a new review based solely on the new ownership. Food is ok. However, I will no longer be a customer anymore. Under the old owner prices for chow mein and fried rice never went above $24. And adding fried wonton was around $31. Came here and now they are charging $38.xx for chow mein and fried rice. I asked why the $14-$15 increase/$7.40 increase per item. His only response was, "under new ownership". And adding fried wonton made the price in the $50 range. Well Gims, its be a wonderful 10yrs, but this customer is gone. Over priced.
No Stars for this place. I ordered dinner for two and didn't receive the main course. When I called to inquire about it, I was yelled at and told there was no bbq pork with this menu. I will never go there again. I suggest you think twice before ordering.
I have been coming to Gim’s since 1979 when Gim and his main cook were woking it up like they wanted to be millionaires! Best Chinese food in all of the S.F. Bay Area from 1979-2013 Hands down👊🏼 even Yan can cook visited Gim’s spot to give this place respect! So busy!!!! I come back in October 2023 and order BBQ Pork Fried Rice because that’s one of my Favorites. Sweet tender high quality pork nuggets, with fresh light egg, peas and carrots seasoned just right with a hint of fish sauce, rice cook fluffy! Yum Nope!!! Opened box and pork smelled of cheap meat market meat upon opening, The rice was slightly burnt, brown. Half a fried egg that was less than desirable and not fluffy. No peas or carrots. So half a cup of low quality pork, half an egg, 1 1/4 cups of rice burnt for $14.35 And it was quiet, no phone orders while waiting🤷🏼♂️ If this is still run by his children I sure wished they would have been in the kitchen just a little bit more and caught those special technique's from Gim and his side kick wok man! I miss you Gim🙏 You are the Man! Great Food you presented to everyone!👊🏼 A Legend for those who knew….
