Opinions de Hakka Restaurant Alameda
Everything was awesome, a great staff fresh food. Lots of sea food. My favorite dish was the sauteed mushrooms and Japanese tofu. The shortribs where great as well! The soup was also nice amd hot. I will be back.
it was a truly delightful experience. From the moment I walked in, the staff was incredibly welcoming and attentive. they were knowledgeable about the menu and provided excellent recommendations. The food itself was absolutely delicious – each dish was prepared with care and bursting with flavor. I highly recommend this restaurant.
I would highly recommend this place due to the fact they have my favorite dish. Came here at lunch time. Great deals at lunch btw. Must try the fried Pumpkin salty egg. It is truly the reason why I love this place.
We tried four dishes and they’re all pretty decent. Chicken and salted fish fried rice’s extraordinary. 梅菜扣肉’s bit too salty but 梅菜 tastes authentic.
I wanted an authentic restaurant and I got exactly what I wanted. I knew I'd like certain food(like generals chicken) from this place so instead I got some food outside my comfort zone and it was delicious. I couldn't pronounce what I ordered but it was a claypot(never had one before) and the food was savory and tender. Upon entering they gave my friend and me our own teapot instead of water and it was a great tea. If I lived in the area I would definitely go back to try more foods. I highly recommend this place.
Not fancy decor but good food. Had sticky rice stuffed fried chicken, mapo tofu, braised pork belly, garlic green beans, salt n pepper pork, xo sauce fish n veg, salt egg fried pumpkin, Westlake soup. Service was very good.
We are in San Francisco on vacation and since it is our last night we decided we wanted Chinese food. We found this restaurant to be fairly close to our hotel and saw a review about their pork belly which I am a fan of. So we Googled the address and we went there and now I gotta tell you at first I thought the prices were a little pricey but it is San Francisco so I figured why not it's our last night here I got the pork belly and my fiance got the broccoli beef. And I can honestly say it is absolutely magnificently delicious. This isn't some kiss ass I know them whatever post. First of all we were the only white people there and most of them barely spoke English but the food is absolutely outstanding and I highly, highly recommend going if you go to San Francisco and if you are definitely a fan of pork belly. It literally melts in your mouth and his broccoli beef was tremendous as well the meat was so tender and the vegetables and nice and fresh. The sauces weren't on overpowering on any level. It was just crazy good. In fact when we leave in the morning after we checked out we're going straight there to get more to take home to Reno. Do you not let this restaurant gem pass you by the next time you're in San Francisco you will regret it. Jenny PezDeSpencer
A hidden gem! This has become The place that we go to. Everything here tastes great the portions are big. We especially love the Hakka specialties from the first couple of pages of the menu. The people here are so friendly.
Very good Chicken with sticky rice, something different that can’t be found at most restaurant. The chicken very crispy!! Great tofu and salted egg pumpkin, Steamed pork belly is (above) OK - NOT that WOW but good to order Fast service, 1 waiter but very efficient and friendly service. Would definitely come to eat here if we go to SF again. Nice neighborhood (residential area). Street parking (free) but need to go around to find a spot
I walked by this restaurant a few times before and never thought to try it until I learned that my BIL’s sister drives from Castro Valley to eat here. It must be that good, so I finally gave it a try. Everything I ordered was delicious and flavorful, especially the Pork Belly with Shrimp Paste, Pan Fried Tofu, and Half Steamed Chicken. The restaurant is clean and has a lot of photos to help with ordering. I would definitely go back to try the Roasted Squab, which I didn't get to order because you have to call in and request an hour in advance.
Food is delicious, literally love everything we get there. The noodle/ chow mein has a very interesting texture, almost like pan fried noodle, which was a very pleasant surprise. Pork belly and stuffed chicken were definitely the highlight of the meal when I visited
That good stufffff. This is a good Chinese restaurant if you're in Richmond. It's close to the beach too so you can maybe walk there or just a short drive over. Wasn't very busy on a Saturday 6pm. Food is all really yummy and doesn't take a long time. The serving sizes are pretty big. Definitely good place to share and enjoy family style authentic Chinese food. My parents approve this message. Enjoy!
It’s nice little spot in the outer Richmond for some Chinese/hakka food. Greatly suited for small and large parties sharing family style. The food here reminded me of childhood meals i would have with my family. I got the stirred noddles which had a lot of wok hay in the dish aka, it was wok fried to perfection. We also got the fried tofu and fish fillet casserole which is always a main stable. I love the mushrooms inside. However I did find it a bit salt. Overall, I love this place and would love to come back.
Food was good with great portion sizes for the money. A lot of food combinations that I’ve never heard of/had before. I’m guessing the chief(s), family, etc may be from Fujian Province, China? Authentic Southern Chinese cuisine. The Bitter Mellon with Catfish is one of the few items I’m familiar with…the other picture is of the Tofu/Pork soup which was also very good. Definitely will be back. Hakka Pride! 😏🙌🏽😉
We walked in on a Tuesday to a mostly empty dining room and man people are really missing out! Authentic Chinese cuisine The pork belly was moist and tender, the lamb stew was spot on, the sweet and saltiness of the black pepper honey short ribs were amazing and the large pea sprouts have the “wok hey” that you need. So much good food at relatively inexpensive prices, come check it out!
I'm overwhelmed by this restaurant's authenticity. Truly great delicious food. I highly recommend the pineapple spare ribs. As I frown upon sweet and sour pork at "Chinese" places, this dish definitely made my Cantonese stomach happy. Will come again!
Love this place. Accidentally discovered it when I was getting lost around the Golden Gate Bridge and love it. It’s a hidden gem. You can tell it’s family run and they are delightful and attentive. But be careful, there is a similar restaurant nearby, but this one isn’t nearly as packed which is a shame as they have superior food. My order is always the same, potstickers and vermicelli. Wish I lived in the city so I could get it Doordashed or delivered. A majority of the menu is in Mandarin and with very little English, but trust me it is so delicious that you will over look that. Parking is limited. Sometimes I have to walk several blocks to park, but again, it’s worth it.
family owned friendly filling delicious - we love eating at the restaurant + doing take out. generous portions too :) some favorites are the mapo, sweet + sour pork, house fried rice, dry chow fun, chinese broccoli w rice wine.
Family Owned and i always tell people that if u do go there, this restaurant has all blown up pictures of the food they serve displayed all over the restaurant. Uncle Cooks, Aunty order takes and serves, and the boys help after work and weekends. I adore this family and love their whole fish special and sauté fish with vegetables and "basil" yes basil. If they serve u peanuts, u might go crazy cause it is addictive and the best in the avenues... hehehe.... The family took over the business just before pandamic, and i was glad that my friends and i supported them thru out the pandamic when all restaurants were closed all over. Somebody had to pay the bills and they were cooking and we were enjoying our pick up orders almost every 2nd day or so.. hehehe.. I hope they keep standing and pick up business.

Older restaurant maybe 20+ years. Still well maintained. Patrons were mainly older Chinese, many appeared to be frequent patrons. Very reasonable prices for traditional “old school” tasty Hakka food.
I love their braised pork belly with mustard greens. Its just like how my momma makes it. Every time I order here I always get their salted egg yolk fish with pumpkin slices. The egg yolk fish isn't on the menu but if you ask the boss lady she'll make it. If you're a fan of salted egg yolk flavor then it's a must here.

Hakka. I like that there is a nice restaurant tucked away in the midst of these few blocks. I came here on a Thursday at around 6:30PM with a small group (of 16!) Thankfully we had reservations, and they handled our tables ...yes, Tables... in stride. The food was fantastic. I was here with a large Chinese family, and you simply don't order one plate for one person. We decided on some plates and apps to pass around and waited. I was incredibly surprised as the apps started coming out only 5 minutes after we put in the order! The Rice in Lotus Leaf was really good. I've had them where the majority of the rice sticks to the lotus leaf, but that was not the case at Hakka. The rest of the plates we ordered were full of flavor and cooked to the right level. No cold dishes, no burned chicken. It was fantastic. Service was great, but was certainly made easier by ordering in Mandarin. Tea was frequently checked and replaced a few times before it emptied. Water was served the same way - glasses for those that wanted water, pitchers to pass around which the wait staff checked periodically. Parking is a nightmare. That isn't really Hakka's fault, but subtract 15 minutes from your reservation time to arrive to give yourself a nice buffer to find parking. It wasn't a complete mess on Thursday, however. Overall, Hakka was a nice experience. I usually visit restaurants in Sonoma County, I rarely (sorry!) visit The City to eat, party, etc. but Hakka was absolutely worth the drive. The different foods that I tried, and the general atmosphere was really refreshing. I'll be visiting this restaurant again.
This is a low-key Chinese restaurant with a largely local crowd. The menu items resemble many other North American Chinese but with some regional variations. They have a Pumpkin with salted egg batter that has both a crunchy yet creamy texture.
The food used to better.. maybe under different ownership / chef?
My mom really loves this restaurant so she'll try to book it for us to have family dinners. They have great pork belly and the waiters are alarmingly friendly for it being a Chinese restaurant. All of their food is really good! They have pictures to help you pick if you have a hard time choosing since their menu is extensive. We always get the salted egg yolk fried pumpkin and my cousin loves it. Parking in the area can be tough but doable! Try to make a reservation if you're coming with a big party.
Had heckuva lot of tries to get thru a busy signal, but it's Covid, so I shouldn't complain. The food photos on Yelp looked great and I was nearby, so wanted to try it out. Food was great, if a little salty. I ordered Salted Pumpkin strips. I ate most if them on the way home so they wouldn't get soggy. SO GOOD, but as I said, really salty. Also got house special tofu stuffed with pork. Also really good. Packaging for takeout could be better. He packaged it to look good, but the cellophane packaging just couldn't handled it. Gravy everywhere by the time I got home and I was holding it upright all the way. Definitely a must try, but go there ready with a carton to carry your order.
This is one of the restaurants that's always on my mines. A place of my guilty pleasure. Their braise belly is just a mouth watering, umami packed, goodness. I also can never have enough of their pumpkin with salted egg yolk dish. Always bring a friend or three so you can order more dishes to try. Family style dinner is the way to go. One thing I'd say to sway from is their surf clam as they are expensive and are only mediocre. The decor of the place is not that great and the service is on par with a lot mid-tier Chinese restaurants (not the best service), but I'd say this is the place to be if you're looking for a flavor packed dinner. I've revisited a few times with months in between, the flavors/tastes of dishes are fairly consistent. Pro(s): - Delicious (consistent) dishes Con(s): - Out of the way - Only ok service
Holy crap. the best hand drawn noodles ever! The broth, brisket and vegetables were SO delicious! Served with soothing, hot, green tea. It was the perfect meal for a chilly day. I spent several day in Philly trying out well-rated restaurants and this one was hands down the best!
So, this was the BEST Chinese food that I have had in San Francisco.
We went there on Sunday for family meet and greet. Wow, not enough room on our table of 10 for ALL the food! The chicken and beans were delicious, soup was good. Honey walnut prawns a bit too much mayo but good. Tofu fried ooh yes! Soft crab? Heaven! Pork spare ribs a bit short of meat on the bone but still tasty! Sweet and sour pork a bit short on sauce but nice and soft to chew with that outer crispy crunch. Noodles piled high and even meat v noodles. Satisfying. Lightly sauted greens fresh and healthy. Capon? Richly browned and crisped perfection! Staff missed an accidental spill on the table but overall came to us when we needed them, then stayed at a distance not crowding us to enjoy eating and talking at the table. Food was delivered hot and at a timely pace. Lots of sweet fresh oranges to finish off. Parking a bit tight it is a local neighborhood street parking. But that is expected at the weekend. No one left hungry. Can't wait to go back! Thank you Hakka!!
Good food and friendly service. Quite a few dishes to choose from. Generous portions. They are open when a lot of restaurants are closed. Sometimes it's gets very busy and you might need to wait before being seated.
My grandparents and my dad were grew up in a Hakka village, and this Hakka restaurant is my dad's favorite, authentic dishes like stuffed tofu and house special stir fried are highly recommended by most of my relatives and friends. I deducted one star of rating is because of their two major issues, first is the SUPER limited parking, second is they are obviously understaff (there are only 3-4 servers included the owner herself, and all of them have to be multitasking.
Had lunch, with most of the other tables occupied by multi generational Chinese families. The place has a warm, family run feel with a unique set of dishes on the menu. Looking forward to my next visit
The food is delicious, we like it very much and highly recommend tasting it. We will come again.
The restaurant is well decorated and slightly cramped with extra tables upstairs. Although the waitress was very nice, the service was pretty slow. It took them about 10 minutes to bring our soup and tea to the table and more than 30+ minutes for our food to come out after ordering, but the food was delicious and definitely worth the wait. I also believe that the service could be faster when eating downstairs.

I'm giving them some benefit of the doubt because we didn't eat the food for over an hour after pick-up, but I was disappointed and surprised they had good ratings. Based on an article in Eater SF, I tried the salt &baked chicken and the pork belly. The chicken was tough and tasteless and it came with an odd, sandy sauce that had a bad flavor. The pork belly was ok, seasoned with chinese 5-spice, but was totally soft and served on a bed of something that seemed like scraps in sauce. We also had the house vermicelli and the green beans, which were both good. The service was good and they were very helpful with my ordering.
If you haven't tried Hakka cuisine, it's really worth your visit. The dishes are savory and I can understand why the portions has gotten smaller during Covid, but I can't understand the gauging of a plate of sauteed big-bean-sprout at $24!!! where other Chinese restaurants recently charged $15-17 a plate when it's listed as a seasonal dish. Even upon our inquiry, the woman owner maintains that $24 was correct for a dish of vegetable...what a rip off!!
Hakka Restaurant is a nice Chinese restaurant. I live a few blocks away from Ocean Beach, and this place is a good place to go to if you want some Chinese food. I particularly like the Pineapple Spare Ribs and the BBQ Pork Fried Rice. This restaurant gets full fast during dinner time, but if you order take out, your food will be ready within 15 minutes.
Very large portions, friendly prompt service. Food was good but nothing exceptional.

My rating is just on the food since I haven't dined in this restaurant for years. I recently got their food thru delivery to enjoy with a couple of friends. We were all hunger and just dived in to eat, so nobody took any pictures. The dishes we ate included Oyster with Ginger & Scallion, which I thought was delicious. We weren't too fond of the calamari, because they were thick and chewy, different from the kind usually served in Western cuisine. We tried the Salt & Baked Chicken, which supposed to be a specialty dish. But we were all disappointed. It tasted dry and non-salty--not even close to the kind I ate in China. They probably invented their own recipe. :\ I may or may not order delivery again, but perhaps I could try dining in again.

It used to be a great restaurant 2 years ago. My most recent visit was terrible. 3 dishes for 2 people came out at $105, and it was not helpful at all when the receipt didn’t list out the items’ price. Not to mention portion size went down by 1/3 compared to a few years ago. Inflation is one thing but i felt ripped off, not to mention how servers pestered me for a higher tip.
Really looking forward to a good Chinese meal having arrived in SF same day. Willing to accept that perhaps the choice of meal was the reason for not enjoying it. Food was bland and uninspiring. Not willing to accept the downright rudeness from the staff though. Having paid and included tip the waiter obviously didn't think it was enough and loitered on our shoulder demanding more. Can across as aggressive and was invading personal space. Whilst we chatted amongst our group about leaving more he was peering in to my son-in-laws wallet! We left having told him our thoughts. Would never go there again.
On Sunday I was in this place and my consumption was 59 dollars, it was the amount I authorized. It turns out that the person who charged me abused my trust and made an extra charge of 9 dollars without my authorization. Which is an abuse for me. I wouldn't go back to a place like this and I would never recommend it.
I made a mistake trying out this place. Just look at the picture. The food tasted like it was washed in the river and all tastes were gone because of it. The weirdest food I ever had. This is a BBQ pork chowmein and it costs $12. There is no flavor whatsoever. I am very hungry and I refuse to eat it. Very disappointed with other reviewers! Thanks for your honest reviews!!!!!!!
