Opinions de Julie's Coffee and Tea Garden Alameda
Really love this place. Great tea selection and nice staff. The back garden is a great place to come and read a book and enjoy a pot of tea. Make sure to try that kombucha! It's strong and flavorful. Not like that store bought stuff. Also the cream that comes with the scone! Really tasty. Good selection of tea and coffee goods like kettles or steepers, and some good books on the topics as well.
I stumbled on this undiscovered gem right in our neighboorhood. This was one of the best mouth-watering avocado toast I've had grace my taste buds in a long time. The food, and ambiance of the garden took me to a state of Zen. Had coffee and a few types of tea. Everything I tried was great. They got a new customer for life!
I come here a lot! I love to get a chai in a pot with honey and cream. It’s perfect. I have had various salads, always fresh and tasty. I just recently had their grilled cheese sandwich. It’s all about the bread, thick! The cheese is NOT American which is perfect. The inside is welcoming and comfortable. The music played is often good. There is always interesting local art in the wall. The staff are friendly and competent. Their tea in bulk is really good. The coffee is always good. I like that it’s not just a bagel and smoothie centered place. The outdoor patio is nice even when cold. The light comes in perfectly.
I always love their baked eggs and dark hot chocolate. There's plenty of seating inside and outside.
Super cute atmosphere!! Diverse and interesting menu, everything is super delicious. I love drinking my matcha with a good book in the outdoor seating areas.
We love Julie's. Shannon and her team have really made Julie's a community hotspot for a solo cuppa, community event, group event, or a small gathering. The food is always delicious. I love her summer pancetta salad. What a gift to Alameda. Thanks Shannon..
We had a lovely time in the garden. I had the delicious scone with devonshire cream and jam with the rooibos tea. The employee was so helpful explaining our food options.
Beautiful place to start the day. Anastasia was very welcoming and friendly and made my girlfriend and I’s experience very pleasant
Julie’s is the perfect spot for old school coffee house vibes and somewhere you’ll likely run into friends. The coffee is just right and their baked goods are not only delicious but they offer a good variety, which is always nice for someone like me who wants options. I always find parking easy on the side streets.
Cozy cafe with great breakfast and lunch options as well as varieties of coffees and teas. I had a veggie quiche, side salad and tea. There is an outdoor garden in the back. You can order at the counter.
We had a baby shower here and the event was spectacular. Delicious food, great service and perfect atmosphere. Everyone at the party would give the event a 5 star. Thank you.
Great spot to work, read, or hang with some friends. They have really nice lattes and a plant filled garden in the back in addition to the front parklet. For the gluten free folks out there, they have food options for us too. Their menu is even labeled.
It’s such a cute spot with really fresh & delicious food! The garden area in the back is so nice & relaxing. My friend & I started with an Oatmeal Coffee Cake and a Blueberry Muffin which were both so moist & flavorful. The Ginger Lemon brew (iced) was very refreshing & my friend’s Iced Vanilla Latte w/oat milk was so yummy! I also had to try the Baked Eggs w/ a side baguette & it was absolutely scrumptious, especially with the crispy cheesy edges 🤤 I will definitely be coming back!
If you are looking for a cute little tea shop vibe, Julie's scratches that itch every time! Be sure to treat yourself to the back patio. It's a lovely place and the folks that work there are always so sweet and attentive!
Best onsite bakery. Fresh and well put together food and drinks served to you on the back patio or inside.
💚 I have been a happy customer of Julie’s for over a decade. I always feel comfortable/welcome/at home here. It feeds my soul as well as my belly. I love the food which is both nourishing and comforting. I love the staff - they are familiar and welcoming. I love hanging out in the garden. Their special games nights are fun, glad they are returning this summer. A local group I am in holds their book club here, it’s a great spot for that. I’ve brought guests here when visiting from Europe. We all love Julie’s. Wishing its ongoing success under Shannon’s leadership.
I usually come for a quick bite/drink and a long time ago came to study at Julie's. When I started looking for venues, I remembered how charming this little place was! I had a great experience with hosting a semi-private event in their garden for my sister's bridal shower. I had the ultimate vision in my mind and was able to execute it perfectly with Julie's! Their garden was already such a cute space that I was able to customize. Shannon their event coordinator was very flexible in offering me options to bring my idea to life. They offered various catering options with add-ons that would surely fit any event. The great thing is they have offerings for medium-large as well as small parties as well. We hosted 27 people and had half the garden to ourselves. We still felt like we had our own space and the service was great. Amazingly, all event details were all communicated via email. And in the day of, everything was exactly as we discussed. This is definitely a testament to the organization of their staff. They had the perfect afternoon tea menu to go with our event. Everyone raved about their garden, food, and experience. I would highly recommend julie's to anyone looking to host a small get together!
Food and drinks were delicious. Only complaint was that the portions are tiny.
We did a lunch party in the back garden and it was so lovely! The staff was very accommodating and kind and went above and beyond. They even accommodated our request for an all vegan menu! We had a lovely time and it was very reasonably priced! Love to come here for a coffee in the garden regularly too, but the event was especially nice!
They just opened up again and I love this place. They have awesome chocolates, teas, specialty coffees, treats and all kinds of locally made products. I always get something different and they also have a wonderful outside sitting area. Come here with friends enjoy!
What a great spot for breakfast and brunch. Its a very simple and charming place with a great atmosphere. Service is great from the order taker to the server. I got a Julie's breakfast sandwich with orange juice and a medium latte. Everything was on point. Price is also fair. I highly recommend this place when you are in Alameda.

Shannon is an amazing caterer! If you have an event consider Julie's. They created an amazing GF menu for my wedding including mocktails and a tea bar. Everything was fresh, delicious, and beautiful.
I'm a regular and love how creative the menu is. There is always something new, fresh and exciting to discover. The classic sweet potato hummus remains my #1 though 😅
The best coffee place in Alameda. They have the cutest garden at the back. The food is always well prepared with the best ingredients. The staff is so lovely. A hidden gem!!!
I have been catering from Julie's for my Art & Design lecture series at a local university. --one, to support a local business over a retail chain, but two, because their catering selections are themselves works of art!!! As such, their lavender cookies (with real flowers) and beautifully designed veggie platters surprise and delight our creative students. I have observed that, when the students feel taken seriously upon encountering a "real" reception (as opposed to Oreos and animal crackers), they take THEMSELVES more seriously as aspiring professionals; and then they engage with our guest speakers on that level. And that impresses our professional guests. Julie's cookie and veggie arrangements make an event feel special. It's worth the investment, even on my very tight budget. That said, it's really not much more expensive to order from them than to get platters from Safeway, but I know I am getting more wholesome ingredients, more design flair, more eco consciousness, and putting money back into my community. Shannon is really flexible in putting together a catering order, and the kind staff will even help you carry items to your car (if you don't have budget for on-site delivery). The students and I have been beyond pleased with their food and their magic.

This tea garden is a charming spot with a serene ambiance. I ordered a sustainably-sourced tea, which was presented beautifully in a whimsical teapot display – such a delightful touch! The Salmon Toast was packed with flavor and clearly made with high-quality ingredients. However, the prices are noticeably higher compared to other fair-trade options nearby. While I enjoyed my visit and would happily return for a special treat, it might not become a regular stop for me. I will try again when warm enough to sit in back garden area!
Cute spot with outdoor seating area in the front and a secret garden patio in the back Service was great and we all enjoyed our lunch. Only down side was my tea was oddly bland and nothing added helped but otherwise a very enjoyable outing. Ordered: 📍 Grilled Cheese with Ham 📍 Quinoa Bowl 📍 Avocado Toast
A delightful place to have a meal, snack or just tea/coffee. No interior seating at the moment, which is just fine as the garden area is by far the best spot. Menu is studded with wholesome items. There is always an excellent healthy alternative. The space is surprisingly quiet (just off Park Street) and conducive to hang out and relax.
Julie's is a great local hangout. Be sure to wander into the patio area out back. Food is also fresh and tasty. Beer, wine, hard ciders are an option, so this is not simply a coffee house. It's a wonderful spot to meet and catch up with friends. Linger and enjoy yourselves.

I really love this place. I'll drive over from Oakland to go here (I'm still sad all these years later that the Julie's in Oakland ended up closing). The people are friendly and the place is cute. However, one star off because the food and drinks are inconsistent. Sometimes everything clicks and other times, something will go awry. One time my friend and I ordered the same dish and several ingredients were missing from mine and when we asked, I was told that they had run out of them so they just put what they had left on the plate. Huh? Also, I always order the same drink and most of the time it's great but every now and then someone makes it and it doesn't taste the same. When I've asked, I've gotten responses that are confusing to me - like I have to ask for an ingredient to be added when I've never had to ask for that ingredient before (it was just part of the drink). I'll still keep going back, however, I wish they would work on their consistency (and customer communication).

Cute spot, and pretty decent (if not slightly pricey for the quantity) food. Unfortunately they must have had a meltdown in the kitchen today (Sunday), as both my friend and I's lunch order took 59 minutes to arrive. After checking in with the kitchen after 45 minutes, it was likely they didn't start until then. Would have been nice to understand a long wait at order time.

Coffee was good and the atmosphere was great on the back patio. I ordered food, expecting something delicious for breakfast. I don't know, this is a pretty sad "sandwich" for $9. Is it the standard now? I really wouldn't mind the price - if I actually got food for it. Instead I got a thin burned piece of bread, with a tiny bit of cream cheese and lax. Uninspiring and disappointing
Usually when an inconvenience happens, I roll with the punches. Whether the food is running behind or something about the order is missing, I tend to ere on the side of patience and carry on. "Oh, there was a mix up with my order? No worries I'll still eat it." " That's 3 shots of expresso in that pour over instead of my usual decaf? Give it here no need to waste it." I try not to make a fuss or big deal when something isn't perfect because I know mistakes happen in the service world and its inherently a stressful industry. But not this afternoon. I ordered a quiche along with a scone with their Devonshire cream (all to go, if it matters) and waited north of 20 minutes before I had to go back in line to check if my food was still coming. I watched the cashier check in the back with the kitchen staff, got reassurance that my order was on the way and waited for a couple minutes more until I was given my food. Lo and behold when I finally arrive home to sit and eat I realize the Devonshire cream wasn't in the bag. That's ok, mistakes happen. I still have my quiche though... but when I bit into it I immediately recognized that it was cold and weirdly chewy. BECAUSE. THE. DOUGH. WAS. RAW. You're telling me I waited patiently all that time, tipped well even though my order was take-out, and the return I get was missing items AND RAW FOOD? Seriously, why did it even take that long when the quiche wasn't even cooked. ----- No seriously, I really want to know what was happening and the thought process behind sending out uncooked food. Please if you're the owner and reading this, understand that people can get severely ill from eating raw flour and eggs. ----- I went back to Julie's along with the food I was given and told them I was upset and had waited a while just to be served raw food and missing items. The cashier brought the manager over, inspected the quiche and noted yes, it was in fact not cooked. She took the food and brought over the cashier from whom I ordered from originally and we had a short dialogue that resulted in me getting a refund. No mean words were said, no emotional blow back, no wild proclamations of reparations were uttered. It was pretty clear the cashier was sincerely sorry any of this happened. (It did tickle me to see the manager who took back my food went into a corner with another staff member to exchange worried looks when they did a second inspection of the quiche) To the staff at Julie's: You guys are great and I love the space you provide for the community. *** Separately, I want to acknowledge the person behind me who was expressing physical and audible annoyance over the fact I was trying to rectify this wildly mild inconvenient experience. Eat raw dough. ***
Lovely garden and pleasant people but fails in the fundamental act of providing a real meal. A disappointing amount of food for the money. Shockingly so. The quinoa bowl for $20 all in, and I felt like at less than 3 real mouthfuls of food. No substance. More like a side dish. I had to go for a second meal.

I have been coming here for 5 years and I definitely will not be returning. Every time I come the slice of quiche keeps getting smaller to the point that it’s ridiculous. I have complained once because as a business owner myself I like to give a chance for the owner to fix it but nothing was done. I don’t mind paying top dollar for organic food if I actually got food in return. They lost a customer today and will not be returning.
