Opinions de Shanghai Dumpling King Alameda
If you love dumplings, this place is a dream come true. The dumplings are handmade, with perfectly thin wrappers that hold in all the juicy, flavorful fillings. Whether you go for the classic pork and chive, shrimp and ginger, or a veggie option, every bite is packed with freshness and just the right seasoning. The pan-fried dumplings have that perfect crispy bottom, while the soup dumplings (xiao long bao) are rich, brothy, and absolutely delicious. But beyond the food, the atmosphere is warm and inviting, making it a great spot for a casual meal with friends or a cozy solo bite. The service is fast and friendly, and the prices are super reasonable for the quality you’re getting. Plus, their dipping sauces—especially the chili oil—take everything to the next level. Whether you’re a dumpling connoisseur or just in the mood for something comforting, this place is definitely worth a visit!
Omg this place is insanely good wow. My professional chef friend brought our friend group here and we CHOWED 👏 DOWN 👏 Please come here !!
SDK is absolutely incredible. Especially the shrimp dumplings, pork dumplings, soup dumplings, sweet and sour prawns, pea shoots, bamboo, green beans, and eggplant. I tend to skip the tofu dishes. Sam is such a wonderful person and treats everyone so well. He always remembers us and friends we bring in. Ignore the bad reviews, this is the real deal.
Great food and the staff is very kind. Our favorites are the soup dumplings (XLBs), garlic cucumber salad, and chive pancakes, but they have some great other options including steamed buns, dumplings, soups, noodle and rice dishes. A nice neighborhood hidden gem!
Super friendly staff, free green tea was delicious. Very good value and incredible food. Would definitely recommend the pork and shrimp dumplings, as well as the garlic pea sprouts. We each order two dishes and had to take some home. Great even the next day.
The soup dumplings are just amazing. And so many other great things on the menu! Green beans, scallion pancake, Shanghai noodles… my children were tempted to try many new things, and loved them all. The kids asked that I add “good pork buns, also good everything” to this review. :)
Soup dumplings are delicious! Thought I'd splurge a little and order the fancy version with crabs roe but to my surprise the owner friendly reminded me that the CHEAPER regular version is more delicious, which I went with in the end. Never have I experienced a restaurant owner giving up making more money for the sake of customers' good, so 4 star on food plus 1 star sincerity for you :)
We ate here on Friday, New Years Eve. Ever since Ton Kiang closed we have been searching for another place to eat Dim Sum/dumplings in the City. We saw this place on a list somewhere and decided to try it out. We ordered the spicy dumplings, spicy shrimp and chive dumplings, pea shoots in garlic sauce, chive pancake and pot stickers. We asked the nice waiter if we were missing anything good and he suggested the Shanghai dumplings and the steamed pork buns, which we added. Let me tell you, everything was AMAZING! The spicy dumplings came with different sauces, one with peanut and the other a thinner soy based sauce. Both were great, not super spicy but really good! The Shanghai dumplings were wonderful, savory and a little bit sweet. The potstickers and pork buns were really flavorful and good. The pea shoots were delicious. The chive pancake, while very good, was the weakest part of the meal (though was still devoured). Other than a light vinegar sauce that was brought out to the table nothing that wasn’t sauced in the kitchen came with any, which was sort of lacking. But since all of the food was delicious and cooked perfectly (not dry) I didn’t miss it in the moment. I’m already looking forward to going back!!!!
For years we've ordered delivery from these guys because we love it, but yesterday we went for the first time in person. Wow - it's amazing when it's fresh! Everyone was very friendly there. We tried the cheese puffs, fried chicken with some very tasty sauce, green beans (if you love garlic, you must get these), Shanghai soup dumplings (perfect), spicy wontons, and steamed BBQ pork buns. Everything was so, so good. I wish we lived closer!
One of my all time favorite restaurants!! Amazing dumplings and service for an incredible price! Don’t miss out and order 2 spicy chive and pork dumplings, Shanghai (soup) dumplings, string beans, and Shanghai style noodles!
I crave this place on the daily. The staff is so sweet, they make you feel so welcome! And don’t even get me started on the dumplings, my mouth is watering just thinking about it!!! It is the only place I go for dumplings. I go for the dumplings but stay for the pea sprouts with garlic sauce and basil eggplant! They cook everything to perfection. I’d give it one hundred stars if I could but five will have to do. YUM! YUM! YUM!
This place is great! Strongly recommend the Shanghai Xiao Long Bao - soup dumplings with pork and crab! I also love their Tianjin pork buns, not at all sweet. The staff are sweet and friendly too, and the free tea is lovely. Overall, don't be put off by the exterior! Everything's great!
This is our go to Chinese takeout in the neighborhood. The kitchen is insanely fast (10-15 minutes for 6 dishes) and food is cooked consistently well and large volume. Our go to’s include pea sprouts, spicy pork dumplings, twice cooked pork, and string beans. Would recommend!!
Super food, a bit high price but acceptable. Food was authentic and way more above average. Forget that sweet and sour chicken and have some real Chinese-Shabghaiese food! Make sure you ordered their shanghai xiaolongbao, so juicy and delicious! And by the way, they offer delivery by UberEATS too.
I love this place and coming back. The server is always nice when ever I come back. You come here for the food~ their soup dumpling is to die for. We got the honey walnut shrimp.
The food is amazing and the service is excellent! We had the sweet and sour chicken, the pork soup dumplings, and lamb potstickers. I would highly recommend any of these dishes, but also any others on the menu. Every dish he brought out to other tables had me wondering why I didn’t order that too!
Came here on an overcast Sunday, it was pretty empty but it seems more like a takeout type of spot. Customer service was great, we started off with some hot tea, Thai tea and green beans which were perfectly crunchy and garlicky. We then got the spicy pork dumplings and pan fried pork buns. It was all great, not greasy. Glad I found this new local spot for dim sun 👍🏼
Great place for some dumplings. They’re good and always tasty. The soup dumplings and spicy chives/pork dumplings are my favorites.
Very good service, beverage, and food! I had vegetable fried rice and it was delicious. Also, I had the wonton soup and potstickers, but my favorite was the fried rice. Beverage- I had the mango Lassie and omg it was so good, I highly recommend it.
This place is SO good i’m surprised there are not more reviews! Incredible food that came out so fast even though it was a little busy. The service was awesome and it really seems family run. Soup dumplings and eggplant dish were my favorite but it was all good. The donuts were so good too!
We had an INCREDIBLE dinner at Shanghai Dumpling King! First- wait staff was so kind and quick to seat us- but the soup dumplings, Mongolian beef, rice cake with bacon and green beans were *chefs kiss* unbelievable. If you want a no frills place with amazing food and kind staff, look no further!!

I love this place!! The owner + staff are so kind, when my partner and I ordered to the other location, the owner personally drove and delivered the food to us. The food is authentic and homey—we liked the spicy pork and chive dumplings in particular. The atmosphere is homey and clean and reminds of chinese restaurants I grew up eating at home. We will be back :)
Shanghai Dumpling King is hands down one of the best local gems in the neighborhood. I honestly go back and forth about even writing this review—because the food is so good that I don’t want it to get so popular I can’t find a table! From the perfectly delicate soup dumplings to the flavorful stir-fried dishes, everything is consistently fresh, authentic, and made with care. The portions are generous, the prices are fair, and the service is always warm and welcoming. It’s the kind of place you find yourself coming back to again and again. Truly a neighborhood treasure.
Felt like real Chinese food. We order a lot of plates and almost all of them were delicious. They are short staffed so keep in mind service might be a little slow.
This is my go-to place for takeout. A great selection of dumplings and really fair prices. They are so good even room temperature. The staff is SUPER nice and friendly too. I recently made a big order and they were out of cucumbers. They went to the store and bought more cucumbers just to fill our order- how cool is that! I highly recommend them!

This place is our go-to while my boys are in town from school. The people that run it are so nice so friendly. Food comes out fast hot and delicious. Many good dishes. The Dan Dan noodle dish is my sons favorite!
We called in our order for lunch. It was ready really quick which is great. There's not a ton of street parking. They have a table set up at the door and an attentive staff handling orders and pick up. The food is hot and delicious. I got Dan Dan noodles which has peanuts and quite spicy. My daughter got three vegetarian steam dumplings and they're a decent size. She really enjoyed her order. We also got a side of onion pancake which is a must and for dessert sugar egg puff. I definitely will go back and try more dishes.
Excellent for dumplings, and decent enough for everything else. I’ll often pick up here and there’s always a good crowd alongside me as well as dining in the restaurant. Not the most charming eat-in experience but it you’re looking for plump and fresh dumplings I’ve loved every kind I’ve ordered here.
The fried dan dan noodles and fried tong choy veggies are quite good with a lot of wok hay. However, the xiao long bao can be improved with a thinner dough and more broth.
Decent spot, has a neighborhood vibe. Service was fast and efficient while also taking care of take out orders. Wontons had substantial filling. Hot and sour soup was a bit too sweet for me. Noodle were slightly over for my liking. Sweet and sour pork had a great breading but there were also pieces without pork. Beef and tofu was similar to my childhood. Eggplant was oily. I was very excited to see the sugar egg puffs on the menu and they didn’t disappoint.
Such great food! The veggies are cooked to perfection. The sweet and sour pork is tender and moist inside and crunchy on the outside. We love the soup dumplings too.
Visited this place on a whim when looking for a quick lunch while visiting the Sunnyside conservatory. The building itself was not very busy with customers but our server was very prompt to greet us and provide us with hot tea. Our food came out quickly which was great since it was a bit cold in the restaurant. The spicy wontons were fantastic. They weren't overly spicy and had a great flavor and texture. Also had the Shanghai dumplings. They were larger than expected but had a good filling that wasn't overly chewy. The dipping sauce was okay but not the best sauce I've had with dumplings. We did have to ask for water a second time but upon doing so we were provided with water quickly. Overall it was a great little place to stop at for a quick lunch and in good proximity of the conservatory.

We ordered from this place on doordash 3 times - the first time is a delight, but the rest were disappointing. This place is not authentic Shanghainese food and the food quality is inconsistent. Check out these sad pan fried pork buns, each of them is the same: 90% dough and 10% pork filling.
Speaking for the “I” here - I really didn’t enjoy the food at all. The beef had that old/aged beef flavor and the pork was really really porky, not in a good way. On top of that, everything was really oily and didn’t taste so fresh. Now if this is the vibe you’re going for, then perhaps you will enjoy this place. But for me, it’s a no. Not coming back. The only pro: our server was really kind and attentive.

Nice owner but the food was not great. Some hard piece of bone or ligament in one of the dumplings, and the walnut prawns were basically just coated in mayo. Expensive, too, for such low quality food

I ordered shrimp dumplings, all dumplings were broken and taste disgusting.
avoid!! nasty flavors in pork and beef dishes, gristly cuts, stale tasting oils. maybe the worst meal I've ever had out, except for the japanese/Chinese/Thai/Italian fusion in las Vegas a decade ago that made me so sick I didn't eat for a week. still barely digesting this one, so hopefully we'll avoid scraping the bottom of that barrel.
If I could I would give minus stars. I’ve been to so many dumplings places. This place is so bad that it broke my imagination! I had three pork dumplings and all three have a big chunk of meat that’s not chewable and tastes super gross. When I told the waiter about this, he dismissed me like” this is what you got”. Run away from this place!
Among the worst Chinese place in SF. We ordered dumpling soup, fried rice, eggplant and beef mongolian. I specifically asked for less salt, but the beef and eggplant were way too salty and greasy. Fried rice portion was tiny (quite offensive because the ingredients is dirt cheap). Dumplings were very salty too. Yuck. How on earth this place got 4.5stars on Google?
The food is too salty and oily for my family and I. My parents blood pressure increased significantly after eating here because of the high salt. The quality of the food is mediocre. The bathroom is decent, not extremely disgusting like the ones in Chinatown. Restaurant is quiet, no loud music playing. Only street parking. It’s a hit or miss to find parking.
They use lots ketchup and only small amounts of real tomato. The food is like it was made in a prison cell not a kitchen. There is no world this place should have more than 2 stars. If this was China they’d be out of business years ago
The restaurant in question is known for its dumplings, which I decided to give it a try. However, from the first bite, it was clear that something was not right. The flavor profiles of the dumplings were totally out of whack, and it was a huge disappointment to see the look of disappointment on my girlfriend's face. The dumplings were supposed to be filled with pork and vegetables, but the meat tasted dry and lacked any discernible flavor. The vegetable filling, on the other hand, was overpowering and tasted almost bitter. The dumpling skins were also thick and doughy, making them hard to chew and even harder to enjoy. To make matters worse, the dipping sauce provided with the dumplings was also lackluster. It tasted like a watered-down soy sauce with no added flavors or spices to enhance the dumplings' taste. Overall, I was thoroughly disappointed with the dumplings at this restaurant. The flavor profiles were off, and the texture was not enjoyable.

This restaurant is closed. But they still open on Uber eats. We paid and when we got there. It’s closed and Uber refused to pay us back! Because we didn’t take a picture of the restaurant close! They are robbing our money! We ordered a lot, almost 100 USD!
