We stumbled into the restaurant while on the family vacation walking in the Chinatown. That was 5 years ago and we still to this day trying to find a restaurant in our town Chicago with our own Chinatown that would at least come close. Hands down , the best Chinese food we have had. Alll four of us still remember it. Great atmosphere and service as well.

Authentic Chinese cuisine. We stopped here with our kids and loved it! Flavourful, genuine recipes with great service and cute decoration. This restaurant deserves to be known!

Was worried there would be no good sichuan Chinese food in SF. I live in NY and have high standards. This restaurant did not disappoint. Soooo good

The best Szechuan Chinese we’ve had outside of China! So authentic and full of flavour. It was so good we had lunch once and dinner 3 times over 3 days. If we are ever back in San Francisco we will be back.

One of my mandatory stops whenever I'm in China town. The spicy beef soup is one of the best dishes I've had in the city, it's a must get. If you're worried about not being able to handle it, don't worry. Nothing is crazy spicy, but everything packs some good heat and the perfect amount of szechuan flavors to make it addictive.

AMAZING! This place has great food, atmosphere and service. The ambiance! I would love to eat here again soon. We tried a bunch of dishes and they were all very good. They have tables that you can put the food on in the middle and spin so great for family style dinning. What a great stop. Glad we tried it.

Decent Sichuan cooking and good selection. Best I know in SF. I'm no longer grading globally, so upgrading. Service is Chinese style -- they rush back and forth, you have to flag them down if you want something. Frankly it's kind of nice, compared to Western hover waiters, but it's easy to misconstrue. I'm always so excited to get a bunch of things I never end up getting the hot pot. I should book back to back nights some time.

Very nice and chill place we grabbed lunch in Chinatown. Tea was nice, prices and portions are reasonable, and our waiter Joey was very friendly and accommodating. Im from the Bay but I'd say its tourist friendly. I'll be back next time I'm in SF ☺️

Might be my new favorite Chinese place in SF! I LOVED the decor inside — it felt like sitting in an outdoor courtyard somewhere in Imperial China, with tiled roofs peeking over tables, thatched lighting fixtures, and warm red pillars separating the dining areas. The vibe is perfect for both a catch up with friends and an intimate romantic night out. The food was, in a word, killer. Bright, fresh, and spicy, this was everything I hoped it would be. The deluxe chicken came out with its own flame burner to keep it warm, which added warmth to the intoxicatingly spicy heat already there! The sesame chicken was the perfect pairing for the spicy chicken, as the sweetness was a nice break in between bites of chili. Mapo tofu is my personal favorite Chinese dish, and this place did a good job — the firm tofu and bright, thick sauce made it the perfect pair for some white rice. I do wish there was less ground pepper and more sichuan pepper (I was surprised to not experience any of the signature mouth-numbing effect of mapo tofu from a place called “Spicy King”). The waiter came once to take our order and we never saw them again — it was a bit of a challenge to flag someone down when we wanted our bill, but otherwise everything flowed nicely. I’m not kidding when I say this is going to be the new place I take visitors for dinner in Chinatown — the decor makes it unique and fun (without being kitschy) while the flavors seal the deal (for those really looking to impress guests, I’d recommend a nightcap one block down at the mysterious Moongate Lounge!).

Service and business was a little slow. 2 out of the 3 dishes were good last one not so much. Music included a lot of well known songs (no lyrics).💏💑

My son and I stumbled upon Spicy King when visiting China Town, and we loved our meal there. The atmosphere was great. It seemed modern and traditional and bold and precious all at the same time, and it worked! Our waitress was kind and gave made recommendations for dietary restrictions. We were served a nice pot of tea. I had the house cold noodles and green onion pancakes, and both were delightful. My mouth is watering now thinking about it!

We were taking a walk in China town in San Francisco and we decide to try some Chinese food, so we stopped at the first restaurant who got our attention. As we walked in a nice guy put us at a table, bring us water and take our order. The atmosphere was very nice inside, we were feeling like we were in China. Food came super fast. Portions were big and taste unbelievable. Everything was seasoned perfectly and tastes delicious. They have food just like in their tradition which is awesome. Prices are cheap for the amount of food you get. If you want to try a real good Chinese restaurant while in San Francisco you should stop here and enjoy. In the picture you will see Tea Smoke Duck - $16, Spicy Beef Nodle Soup - $18, Slice Pork Belly - $12, Chicken Feet - $12, Orange Chicken -$19, Cheese Cake - $14, Spring Rolls - $10. And don't worry, if you can't eat everything they will give you bowls to take it home. You can see also a menu in the pictures.

We came here for lunch the day of the Chinese New Year parade. We got 3 dishes for 2 people. I was surprised how good the honey walnut shrimp. Crispy batter, large shrimps with a nice bite. The spicy beef and twice cooked bacon was delicious.

As we were visiting Chinatown, we tried this spot. The waiters were really nice and the food was good(spicy, even when mild). Overall a good experience.

Ordered delivery and was not disappointed. Food was delicious and authentic- especially the Hand Shredded Cabbage Stir-Fried with Chili, Chongqing Numbing Spicy Noodles, and Tea Smoked Duck! Highly recommend these 3. Just okay was the Dan Dan Noodles. Spicy Wonton w/ Chili Oil was also good though it wasn't spicy enough.

Came for lunch with my friends… the food was amazing! We ordered the smoked duck, pork , prawn and beef noodles. The prawn was good although we felt the batter was a lil too thick.. wouldn’t mind going again to try other dishes. The prices were very decent as compared to the quantity we got. Loved it 🥰

The atmosphere was great and the staff were very friendly. However, I was disappointed with the Mala Xiang Guo. It felt like they used low-quality ingredients to save on costs even basic vegetables like bok choy were missing.

After calling, they refunded me for the duck so added one star back. They also promised to keep an eye on the takeout order in the future. ———————-updates——————— The duck in takeout is all bones. Not sure why I paid $16 for it. They seem to be betting on takeout customers wouldn’t check food quality. The place was also pretty empty on lunch time while other spots were lining up like crazy. There are a few nearby Sichun restaurants with either Michelin star or way better google reviews (and food is way better). Check those out, don’t waste your money here. The server was kind.

I've been coming here for years but haven't been here recently so when my other favorite Chinatown restaurant is closed I decided to come here for lunch. Boy was that a mistake. Service is not bad per se but food takes forever especially for lunch. The place is definitely understaffed so I waited for food for over 50 minutes which is crazy for lunch. The food is decent as they do try to do traditional dishes a little differently. For example, they used pork neck meat for the stir fried pork which is quite unique and they also added long bean so that was great. The pork kidney is so so. I wish they have frogs in the menu. What I also like is that they use a small grain rice which is great and shows that they care about food taste. Overall good enough for food if you have time to wait.

The food was nice and the portion was very generous. Service was friendly and attentive. Downside: someone was smoking in the kitchen or behind the bar filling the restaurant with the smell of cigarettes. Glad I already finished my meal because that would have ruined my appetite for sure 🤢 This place needs to work on its atmosphere in general. It looks a bit dated.

Ordered food delivery twice and both times the dishes tasted terrible. Makes me think the chef doesn’t know how to cook. Every dish looks black and can barely see what ingredients are in the dish. Also the taste is excessive oyster sauce flavor with no other taste. I personally know how to cook these dishes and my family all think the dishes are not even as good as my own cooking. Take the shredded cabbage as an example, I don’t know why the chef cooked the dish so watery where authentic Chinese way to cook should not be watery. The stir fry beef tastes EXCESSIVELY amount of cheap quality oyster sauce and can barely tastes the chili flavor. Overall terrible cooking.

I had high hopes for Spicy King but sadly, it is all show, no substance. (With one exception.) If you want tasty Chinese food, do not bother. Let's start with show. If I remember correctly, Spicy King entered San Francisco less than 10 years ago. Even though its street address is on Waverley, at the corner of Clay with a large sign, it is easily visible from Grant (53m/174ft), Stockton (91m/300ft),Sacramento (97m/317ft), and Washington (101m/332ft). The front windows feature several very large graphic panels depicting the presumed chef owner and awards he won in China. Its Chinese name, 麻辣一品 ("hot and numbing first class"), portrays a lot more premium than its English name. As a bonus, no obnoxious self-promotion is found inside, unlike another bad restaurant I reviewed. But wait till I taste their food. The advertised flavor is Chongqing, the spicier brother among the Sichuan family. To test this out, we ordered three dishes: Mouth Watering Chicken (口水鸡), Bean Jello in Red Chili Sauce (川北凉粉), and Flaming Spicy Kidney (火爆腰花). Of these, flaming spicy kidney is a common Sichuan dish; bean jello is a Chongqing classic that we use to test authenticity of Chongqing places; and mouth watering chicken is another classic that is closer to Chongqing flavor. The chicken came first. Taste was very good. Portion was descent, too. This raised our hopes. The bean jello, on the other hand, came as a bad shock. It did not have the definitive flavor. The black fermented beans in the sauce does not stick to the jello. The sauce was simply wrong, with so much oil the jelly was not even flavorful. Then, the spicy kidney also lacked flavor despite lots of spicy ingredients. The sauce was applied wrong. The onion slices were raw, which was not only wrong for this dish, it is wrong for any Chinese stir fry. (If you want authenticity, no. Onion or shallot is not a traditional ingredient in this dish - not in most Szechuan dishes.) In short, it is a shame that a restaurant founded by a Chongqing chef - an award-winning one noless, cannot even do Chongqing's signature bean jello right. And they butchered (not in the good sense) the really common flaming spicy kidney. Only mouth watering chicken was correctly made. One out of three is better than zero the other all-show-no-substance restaurant did. But I will still give them a failing grade. To be sure, influx of Sichuan-rooted chefs in the past decade have brought these dishes to the San Francisco Bay Area in their full flavor. Why would I want to return to this poor execution? The restaurant has some elaborate decorations near the entrance. Other than that, the interior is relatively simple, keeping a premium look without being wasteful. Seating is spacier than typical Chinatown joints.

Terrible food! meat smelled bad, the soup had too much vinegar, which made it too sour. Terrible service as well, employee was slow, lazy, and rude.

At 7 p.m. on Sunday, I made an appointment with my good friend to go to Spicy King in San Francisco for dinner together. Because I had eaten it before and it felt good, I recommended my friend to come with me. But this time, the experience was very, very bad. The dinner time was very busy, but from my waiting for the seat to before and after dinner, it was almost a small. At that time, and we still hurriedly finished eating and gave up our seats to the customers behind us. Because we only saw that a waiter was busy, many empty tables did not have time to clean up for the next batch of customers. We saw that a lot of meals were not delivered to the table in time. The waiter was only busy placing orders for customers... After we sat down, I had to wait for the waiter to place an order, and the water was waiting for a long time. During the meal, the paper towel was also ordered several times before it was delivered... The food was good and delicious, but the service was really the worst service I had ever seen... While waiting for the meal, I chatted with the next table, and they also said that such a big restaurant was so busy and it was the peak of eating. Why does only one waiter go to work?? I hope this comment can show the owner of this store that the food is well made and delicious .But don't forget the service aspect, I believe the boss should not be short of that little money...
