Read about this place from a New York Times feature and tried it since it’s down the block from my apartment. WOW, what a fun time. My gf and I got the Lindt Chocolate Shake (one of the most luxurious and delicious chocolate drinks I’ve ever had), some lovely strong black tea and a great hookah. The plush seats are super comfortable, the sound system is bumping and the service is friendly and attentive. This is an ownership and staff that really cares about the guest experience, and you can tell from the moment you walk in. Oh and though the vibe is a little clubby, it’s not pretentious at all. Very welcoming. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a great time.

This is my second time here with girlfriend and it's always been a blast - from the amazing hookah, to the belly dancing, and great service. The food is halal and was really good! Recommend the chicken dumplings and their cocktails! Today I had Giovanni and she was very attentive and wonderful to work with, always came to ask if everything was okay and if we needed anything at all. Will absolutely come back again - highly recommend! :)

One of the premium spots on Steinway , maybe the only one :) As you walk in , the ambiance is beautiful , the lounge is one of a kind. It gives you the luxury feel to it , the decor is very comfortable as well. On weekends they have a live belly dancer , it’s definitely a Vibe. Hookahs or Shisha as some call it are imported and are different from all others , probably never seen in any other lounge on the Steinway Strip. My friends and I went to Sands of Persia for their amazing smooth Hookah and were pleasantly surprised to find that they had a Qawah tea pot and tea with cardamom milk and it sounded so yummy! We got that plus a Knafeh and everything was super tasty. I will say one thing is that they’re more on the expensive side and the prices can definitely be improved but the vibes at SOP are amazing and the service is wonderful! They really take care of you and check in you and the Hookah itself is A plus. Def come check out this place if you’re in the mood for some good Hookah and food!

Sands Of Persia is on another level when it comes to Hookah! I celebrated my birthday here yesterday and it was nothing but AMAZING. Their hookah is TOP TIER! Like LITERALLY!!! Its pulls so smooth, no harsh taste and the coal burns FOREVAAAAA. From the lux design and variety of different hookahs down to the variety of flavors. This is NOT your TYPICAL hookah lounge. The manager Brandon was very attentive checking in to make sure we were satisfied, explaining the different hookahs and flavors. The service staff was great as well all food came out fresh and hot! We ordered the chicken sandwich, hummus and chicken dumpling. Everything was tasty! I will def be back! If your looking for an upscale establishment with chill vibes Sands of Persia is it!

They just about open a month ago & new to the Astoria neighborhood. My husband & I made a reservation for 9:30pm on Friday ni & got seated once we got there. They check ID & vaccination cards at the door. After being seated Alice took our order & we were greeted by the owner. He welcomed us & we had a great conversation & learned more about the business. We ordered the Persian banana pudding, Rose Kanafeh, Blueberry tea, Butterfly lemonade, one special shisha & one exotic shisha. The desserts were so unique & the shisha was made to perfection. Everything was amazing! The staff is super friendly & the service was just as amazing. The ambiance is beautiful with upscale decor & perfect lighting, not too bright & not too dim. Not to crowded & enough space for couples & a few groups of people to enjoy. They also have a belly dancing show at 10:30pm which was awesome. Shout out to Valerina! My husband & I had such an amazing experience. We cannot wait to come back! It's a whole vibe & much more. Shout out to Abhi, the owner for opening such an amazing hookah lounge in an amazing neighborhood. I hope they thrive on their new business venture.

If you are looking for an elevated shisha experience with the most unique zero-proof drinks/ mocktails, this is your spot! Their desserts were to die for as well. My boyfriend and I walked in at 8, and stayed past 10:45PM. Time really flies here. Walking in the first thing you’ll notice is the upbeat songs. They even have a DJ booth in the back of the restaurant. When we got seated our server was extremely attentive and suggested a fruity and sweet shisha for us. We were clearly inexperience, but our server made us feel very comfortable. She suggested we try the Persian Gulf. “If you can smoke a passionfruit mojito, this will be it. Sweet and tangy with a icy refreshing kick at the end.” The description could not be more accurate. The sweet fruity flavor was genuinely good. I’ve been to other places before and I have to say, Sands of Persia is my absolute favorite. It was smooth and icy at the same time. You definitely feel that cooling affect. While we were inhaling and chatting it up, workers kept coming over to switch out our heated coals on the sisha bowl. They were super fast and efficient. You can tell the people they hired were either trained really well or had a lot of experience. We also ordered some drinks. SOP drinks are all special and unique. If you could just see the pictures of the cups and utensils they use to serve each drink, you would probably want one of each drink. My bf got the SOP Special Butterfly Lemonade. It is a perfect balance of sweet and sour, with a hint of fragrant lemon and aroma from the exotic blue butterfly pea plant. The drink was so pretty, it came with a mini red bedazzled pitcher to pour the lemonade in, to get the color changing affect from the butterfly pea flower. I got the Lindt Chocolate Shake. This high quality Swiss Chocolate blended together with premium ice cream for a rich and creamy iced cold beverage was an absolute treat. The cup was so unique designed, if you guys could seee how this was served. It was adorable! The shake was so creamy. If you love Lindt milk chocolate this is your drink! It’s a chocolate bliss. We couldn’t have drinks and shisha without food. They offer the most beautiful desserts here. We tried SOP Special Royal Cleopatra. This is a honey infused butter fried brioche , served with fresh fruits topped with vanilla ice cream and nuts! The dessert was super photogenic at all angles. The brioche was super sweet, it a way it reminds me of this Indian dessert we love, gulab jamun, but make it modernized. We also got the SOP Special Arabic Sand Coffee Persian Afogatto. To be honest when our server poured out the Arabic sand coffee, I thought she just boiled it somewhere to pour over my Ice cream. It turns out the coffee was heated up with sand like they do in Turkey. Apparently the owner bought the whole set from India. The whole experience was SO cool, I am usually not a coffee girl but tonight was an exception. I could have this dessert everyday. At 10:30PMf from Friday to Sunday, they have a belly dancer come in to dance. The woman they hired was extremely talented and nice. She performed three different dances and even tried to get the customers to get up to have fun. Everyone followed the flow of the music and got up to dance with her. She was so fun and seemed so carefree. Her performance was excellent! Overall, our experience exceeded our expectations. This is our FAVORITE shisha spot EVER. The flavors, the drinks, the food, everything was amazing! The prices are definitely on the more $$$ side, but we recommend going on the weekend late evenings so you can catch a belly dancer show.

This is not just a Hookah lounge it is a first class experience. The atmosphere is so inviting, the staff is polite, the hookah is amazing and the owners make you feel like family. I tried the Persian bunny hookah and the Dubai vibe hookah and it was amazing — lasted a long time and hit just right. The food is also top-notch. Everything came out hot, fresh, and flavorful. The burgers, wings and fries were delicious, and the appetizers were perfect for sharing as well as the best signature dishes around the area. Service was outstanding — everyone was super friendly and attentive without hovering. You can tell they actually care about making sure you’re having a good time. Overall, sands of Persia has become one of my go-to spots for a chill night out. Great food, smooth hookah, and a really comfortable atmosphere. My sis and I went for the belly dancing which are friday nights around 1030 pm. It was a great show, loved her dance, the props she used and also her engagement with the audience. Hookah was nice and smooth. We ordered Pawai and enjoyed that as well. Ordered masala fries and that was hot, fresh and crispy. Service and Ambience was great! Food,drinks, hookah are a bit pricy but for a celebration i didnt think it was bad for 2 people.

This place has been on my list for a while but I wish I went earlier. Geovani our server was really attentive and gave us a lot of good recommendations. The belly dancer was so fun and she went to each table and danced with the guest. It was truly a fun experience. The vibe was more chill in the beginning then after the dancer left the DJ played a variety of music ranging from Afro beats to hip hop and dancehall as well as pop music. It’s a great date night or chill birthday experience. Can’t wait to go back!

Celebrated my birthday here with my wife! Such an amazing atmosphere with a modern ‘Dubai inspired’ interior design and arguably the best customer service/experience. Putra (our host) was very professional and answered every question we had. The mocktails 💯 the hummus/fries/pita platter 💯 the Moroccan mint tea 💯 the hot sand coffee 💯 the Rose Kanefeh dessert (no words can describe) 💯 But the Shisha (special mix recommended/crafted by Putra which we were able to sample before committing to) was honestly the best we ever had! Iced hose and all that jazz!! Imagine having all these eats and drinks and experiencing so many different flavors in one night! Go to this place! We highly recommend! NB: this ain’t no regular hookah lounge, this place is an experience!

We were not even planning to go here, but on our way to one of the Hookah Lounges decided to go here instead simply because it looked so Beautiful from the outside, and good thing we did since it was easily one of the best Hookah Lounges I have been to. Ambience was awesome and the whole setup was very welcoming, and the Patio seating was so plush. Hostess and the Serving Staff were all super friendly, helpful, attentive, and quick to respond. Hookah was pretty good (they had Ice Hose too), and the Food was delicious. Drinks are non-alcoholic, so be prepared. We also got to Belly Dancing as a Bonus..!! It was Friday Night, so not sure what is the deal on other days.

Had a good experience here, i went on a nice quiet Sunday. I like the service button that you press and the waiter will come find out what you need. I didn't order any food but I will next time. I had the diamond hookah and the rose drink. Both were good. Nice clean bathroom as well. Only complaint was that I found inside to be way too cold. So I will be back in the warmer months.

The atmosphere started off amazing with a really great belly dancer, but after she was done the music was very loud and repetitive hip hop the whole time. Would recommend switching up the type of music and maybe attempting something to fit the middle eastern/arabic vibe of the place. Otherwise its a very cool place, definitely recommend.

Service was superb! Food was good overall, but can be more flavorful. The sauce with the satay chicken was really nice. Got Samaira & Sultan hookahs- my preference was the Sultan. The atmosphere was also nice overall, but the loud music and spaced seating made it difficult to communicate with my companion to the point where we were texting more than half the time of our stay. Otherwise decor is nice, DJ plays good music, and perhaps because it was a Saturday there was a belly dancer show. It was a nice experience but very expensive.

Needless to say it was absolutely delicious with the whip cream and cookie inside. Their hookah was super smooth and lasted a long time. The person in charge of the hookah was very attentive and was constantly walking around, replacing the coal. Our waitress was super friendly but the service was really slow since the place was packed with people from the event. The desserts were delicious but when looking at the menu, way too overpriced. They surprised us with a belly dancer who did an amazing job keeping everyone engaged and did quite a performance. Would probably return for the hookah since it was priced like other spots on Steinway and was super tasty.

We walked in 20 mins late and they canceled our reservation despite the place being empty. After some back and forth convo they finally honored our reservation. 15 mins later the same lady that was the hostess is also the only waiter and finally asks for our order. I ordered the Arabic coffee and was shocked to see a small espresso coffee cup. This tiny espresso coffee was $15!! That is almost criminal to charge that price. The kanafe was good but was $30! I understand the dynamic and costs especially of a new establishment (overhead costs like rent, limited seating etc) and I get that they are still figuring it out but cmon, those prices are an outrage to say the least. Hookah was phenomenal and if you are looking for a classy spot with spacious seating and don’t mind paying a premium for it, this is your place. Sadly I won’t be back and it’s a shame because the decor was very nice.

They need more staff and customer service! The ambiance is good but my friends and I was disappointed. A lot of why we even went there was not what it was when we looked it up online. But we just enjoyed each other's company. I'm being generous with a 3 because the dj tried.

Sands of Persia is beautiful and good for instagram pictures. Their drinks are very delicious and they look beautiful. They have good customer service. Hookahs are exotic looking and expansive but it was not that good compare to the price.They do charge extra if more than 2 people share 1 hookah and has 2 hours limit for per table, so the policies were weird for me. Never heard this kind of policy anywhere. This place is good for one time visit.

Came here randomly to show my friend from the UK and his wife how we smoke hookah in the states. Would say the food is great,the service was good but I feel like the woman who served us was upselling a little too much but was still very attentive.The drinks were good but I felt $30 for one drink was quite insane the food was cheaper and some of the drinks you could barely taste the alcohol. The hookah in my opinion was mid, I’ve had hookah for cheaper and same quality. And also have had hookah that had more of an effect for the price. But I just guessed what you’re really paying for is the hookah design. Overall the food surprised me and I would recommend going for more dressy chill experience, the belly dancer was nice performance.As a whole the service and food was great and just be mindful how much you spend cause in my opinion some items are worth it and some aren’t.

100% a beautiful setup, aesthetically pleasing! We ordered the Marhaba hookah, tobelrone shake, black tea and chocolate moose cake. I have to say the best was the tobelrone shake. However it is extremely priced. The hookah was just okay. You’re paying for how fancy the place looks. There’s no food here but you can bring it in for a $20 dining fee. It’s extremely clean and the customer service was very nice. Def recommend a visit if you’re in the area.

We decided to try out this lounge and left disappointed. The place was completely empty when we arrived and dull. We ordered fries, hummus, drinks, and one hookah. the food and drinks were decent but nothing special either. What really surprised us was the bill - $130 for what was a less than average experience. We also asked to take our food to go since we were ready to leave, but were told that wasn’t possible, which was ridiculous! The staff themselves were polite and friendly, but the overall vibe from the owners came across as stuck up. With more reasonable pricing, better energy, and more flexibility for guests this spot could really improve. It needs work.

Really expensive hookah and slow service. not sure what is special about their diamond and bunny hookah besides the shape. they don’t change out the coals for you even when you have a 70 dollar hookah. there are much better places on steinway. i regret not leaving after the first few minutes when the person i was with suggested we should. Waited 30 minutes for a check and they tried to charge us 20 dollars each for still water when they don’t even offer tap!!! horrible place. I wish I could give it zero stars

As a Persian I would say this place has NOTHING PERSIAN! They waitresses were not friendly at all. we did not even ORDER ANYTHING we just left. The food menu was not all that and the hookah they had was honestly such a scam!! this place was HAZARDOUS!!!! There were some LOOSE ELECTRICAL WIRES on the floor as you can see in the photo. I am definitely not returning to this place… so disappointing

HORRIBLE SERVICE, & all cocktail drinks $25!! Bouncer was rude (wanted to slap bro). Limited food menu everything expensive. Belly dancing and atmosphere was cute though;) drinks were trash !

Incorrect billing. The owner over charges and all the drinks are over priced. I never give one star reviews but this is robbery. When I went to confront the owner, he knew what he was doing and is trying to make an extra buck by overcharging. There are many 1 star reviews stating the same experience I’ve had here. Please save yourself and do not come here. Openly robbing people is awful. No shame and unethical business practices.

⚠️ WARNING: Predatory Billing Practices!! The pricing is deceptive and honestly shocking! They charged $30 for a single simple Casamigos with club soda. To put that into perspective, a 750ml bottle of Casamigos costs about $40 in stores, and not even upscale bars charge that much for a drink in Soho. Plus, this wasn’t even a crafted cocktail with garnish, any mixology or professional literally just tequila and club soda poured by a girl sitting on a small booth behind the small bar counter in the corner, glued to her phone, two steps from the DJ who was also a waiter…. Nothing about it felt professional, upscale, or worth that price. Had we known it was $30 each, we never would’ve ordered at all!! My friend and I had 6 Casamigos with club soda at $30 each, plus 1 hookah for $70. That’s it. No food, no entertainment — nothing else (place was dead). The bill came to $319, but they even tried to run my card for $395 first (SEE SCREENSHOTS)!!! Even at $319, that’s insanely overpriced for six basic drinks and one hookah. At the very least, they should clearly disclose that something as simple as Casamigos with club soda will run you $30. I will be reporting this business to the NYC Department of Consumer, the Better Business Bureau, and the NY Attorney General’s Consumer Protection Bureau. Consumers deserve transparency — and businesses like this need to be held accountable.
