spectacular bar vibes. small and intimate and everyone was screaming at the top of their lungs

I was getting ready to go to 161 karaoke and I just saw the review by amber bellow. I witnessed how she insulted the door guy and used a racist slur towards the door guy. The door guy stopped you because you were trying to get in by force without showing your ID, carrying an alcoholic beverage from outside. I saw how you placed your drink on the ground next to the bar entrance and started insulting the door guy who was polite and respectful toward you. Here, you didn’t stop. you went to get a big guy who tried to bribe the door guy which door guy refused. It Is sad you spread lies about this place. I had to walk away as well because of your attitude at the entrance! I don’t come that often to this karaoke bar but when I do I have a great time and all staff are welcoming and specially the door guy is just the most friendly person I have ever interact in most bars I have ever been in NY.

If you like Karaoke and having fun this is the spot. Intimate, friendly, and a good time every time. Kevin knows whats up and doesn’t play around. Highly recommend. Alex and Kelvin will be your guys at the bar.

Easily my favorite karaoke bar in NYC. The bartenders (JC, Kelvin, Ish, V, and Kevin) are some of the best. In addition to making some of the best drinks, they’re some of the kindest, coolest cats around. I honestly have fallen in love with this city even more (if that’s possible) because of the community this wonderful establishment fosters. And don’t forget, tip your bartender!!

I went to 161 Lafayette and was definitely skeptical at first. I shouldn't have been....It was one of the most fun nights I've had in a while. They have the friendliest, most welcoming crowd and service I have encountered in NYC (and affordable drinks). There was a mishap while I was there and my credit card got lost, and the bartender was so concerned and genuinely apologetic- I was satisfied that it was a mistake and that he was extremely sympathetic. He in no way needed to do what he did next... He pulled out his wallet and handed me enough cash to get home, commute to work the next morning, and pay for my breakfast and lunch the next day. I can't thank him enough for his kindness. It made my week and saved my night. 11/10 the best people and Karaoke in the city If my story isn't enough, the friend who invited me went to 161 Lafayette for the first time a week ago, and she's been four times since. A note to the owner, read this review, please show the bartender on 7/29/2021 how appreciative I am, then give him a RAISE!!!

There's no food, but it's the best place to go for karaoke in NYC.

Aaron and JC are truly talented artists in thier own right. It's worth it to pop into 161 Lafayette, in the hopes you might be treated to a free show. On any given night one of them might climb out from behind the bar... to belt out a song. I've been to too many live performances to count or remember, and the level of talent the bar staff posses is bananas! You will hear anything from sorority girls on a night out, to professionals passing through. It's tiny...hot in the back...cold in the front...but oh so worth it!

Towards the night everyone is singing together :) They have an app which has a list of songs, and you can ask your name to be added to the queue for $2 per song. The cocktails were okay, but good enough to make you drunk and that’s what matters ;)

This hole in the wall is honestly a hidden gem. It's a small bar but you can't beat the chill vibes, the friendly people, and the karaoke. The bartender was awesome too, super easy to talk to! It can get pretty crowded later on in the night so go earlier and you'll pretty much get the karaoke all to yourself! Would totally go back here again with friends in the future

The bartender, Alex and owner, Kevin are incredibly nice, provided great service, and chatted with us throughout the evening. We met tons of super cool people and got to sing quite a bit. The drinks were good and reasonably priced for NYC. We will definitely come back again.

If you can get here when it's not incredibly crowded, it is one the best places to be. Everyone is singing with each other and dancing. I think it's $2/song and drinks/shots are great!

I had a great time at 161 the first time we were there. Even though there were some discomfort the second time, they made efforts to make sure I’d feel better about coming back and I appreciate that, knowing it’s not all places that are willing to do it.

Do NOT be a nice guy and write down other people’s karaoke songs. I had a few drinks and few songs of my own, but was next to the bar so wrote for others - and got charged $60 in just 2 hours. Massive rip off. But fun? Small and easily cramped, but lends to communal vibe quickly.

They also charge per song. While most places in the city give a song for every drink they charge 2 per song, which Can be weird? Who's gonna charge 2 Dollars on a card or carry 2 singles. The staff was nice, the place and bathroom was clean. They had a few stools but the place is very small if you are looking for a cozy vibe and don't actually care how you sound. It's a fun place but not for true karaoke buffs. All in all we had a blast just hanging around. My bar friends had a better time then my true karaoke friends lol

Last night, I visited 161 Lafayette and it left much to be desired. The staff were extremely rude, showing blatant favoritism towards regulars while ignoring or being hostile to newcomers. When patrons requested water, they were served hot water instead, which was both inconvenient and unpleasant. To make matters worse, the establishment allowed several underaged individuals, creating an uncomfortable and potentially unsafe environment. Additionally, the microphones did not have covers, making it highly unsanitary as people were essentially putting their mouths directly on the mics. Overall, the experience was disappointing, and I would not recommend this karaoke bar to anyone looking for a welcoming and enjoyable night out.

Me and my partner were kicked out for not spending enough money? We were there for maybe 10 minutes and didn’t pay for a song/drink because there was a line and the security said we were taking up too much space?

We arrived with a private party, at random, and the bartender and doorman were incredibly rude to us, booting us out. Perhaps they should put out a sign and say private party. What a joke. Will never return
