I wasn't feeling well due to a car ride. We are staying at this hotel and needed a dinner spot. I am SO grateful that King & Rye was attached and right downstairs. It was phenomenal. Redone was our server i asked for recommendations and he was so pleasant. We had the deviled eggs and the mussels. The deviled eggs were good but those mussels were amazing and out of this world. Then we opted for the sirloin and man...It was perfect. The seasoning was perfect and cooked at the perfect medium rare. I shared...i wish I hadn't I was so close to order just another steak. My husband got the pimento mac & cheese ,added crawfish. That was amazing. This restaurant, I highly recommend. Service was on point and ask for our server. He was so kind.
Restaurant Week dinner with the hubby. Food was good. Service was amazing and attentive (Thanks, Redwan!). We started with drinks which were delicious, had the biscuit basket for a starter, then scallops and steak for our mains. Atmosphere is a vibe, too. Perfect for date night or a night out with friends.
We came for restaurant week and Redwan was so AMAZING! He was so sweet. Gave us two desserts since it was our friend-a -versary. The food was so amazing! Love the steak, so worth it!
My wife and I had a fabulous date night. Out of everything we had, they were 7 for 8. Our drinks were very good. The cast-iron cornbread was exceptional. Moist, slight hint of sweetness and the herb butter put it over the top. The biscuit basket was another hit. My wife ordered the gumbo and I had the burger and tots. Everything was divine. Then came the dessert. My chocolate peanut butter bacon bar was decadent. However, the banana pudding was not to my wife’s taste. It may have been a bad night for the bananas. She said there was no sweetness to the bananas. Overall, definitely willing to visit again.
The food was absolutely delightful, leaving a lasting impression with its exquisite flavors and presentation. However, the service was a little slow, which was a bit of a letdown. Despite the wait, the overall dining experience was enjoyable, and the quality of the food made up for the slower service. I'm hoping for quicker service next time, as the culinary excellence is definitely worth another visit.
My sister and I came for brunch and had a wonderful time. She has a food allergy so its important to find the right restaurant. The cinnamon roll, buttermilk pancakes, deviled eggs and shrimp and grits were delicious. Great food. Excellent service. Cozy atmosphere. Will definitely go back!
Good place - good food menu - service is nice ! We recommend it ! All plates, from appetizers to dessert, are well cooked and taste is very good ! Salad with nice dressing, can be shared. All plates were delicious. Dessert was a good way to close this dinner. Interesting wine list as well ! We left full and happy !
Friendliest people ever and the food is amazing. My husband and I came here the first time for a Valentine's Day Brunch, which was delicious. We saw the igloos and I knew right then an there where we were going for our anniversary dinner. King and Rye does not disappoint. The igloo was so cute and warm enough to be comfortable with a jacket. Then we met our server, who happened to be the same gentleman who served us brunch on Valentine's Day and he remembered us. So cool. He was very friendly and professional. He recommended menu items and made sure we were never wanting for anything. He even took our picture (which he also did on Valentine's Day). Customer service was topnotch to say the least. Now let's get to the food. We ordered meatballs and pate to start....both were really really good. We also ordered the bbq pork shoulder steak, which feeds three easily, and it was so tender. Just fall off the bone awesome. For drinks we tried a few cocktails....the Smashed and Spiked was so good. I also ordered the Cherry NY Sour and that was also delightful. My husband ordered the Split Manhattan and it was perfect. My friend ordered the Cozy by the Fire hot toddy along with a glass of merit and she loved them both. We would come back here anytime. If you haven't been, you are missing out. Their bourbon list is great too! Thanks! :-)
King & Rye is very good. I was at the restaurant with my friend for brunch and I was pleasantly surprised. The food was excellent and the service was very friendly. It is located inside the Alexandrian Hotel and afterwards, guests can enjoy the hotel lobby.
First time dining here. We took our daughter for brunch for her 25th birthday. Great atmosphere, great food with full servings. My only issue this day was the St. Patrick's Day parade happening on King Street at the same time we were dining. When you go, make sure there are no other city events happening. I'm looking forward to going back for dinner.
Surprised my husband with dinner with friends for an igloo dinner. We dined in a heated tent in the shape of an igloo that was donned in ski chalet decor. The food was absolutely delicious! For starters, we shared fried macaroni and cheese balls and sweet potato fries. For the main course, we shared the short rib paella and chicken and sausage paella... both were delightful and for dessert we had the banana pudding cake and the cast iron cookie. Needless to say, we took food home. Great food, great staff and great atmosphere... will definitely dine here again!
Absolutely decadent brunch, come hungry. Portions are very large, so plan to share or skip a meal. From the cast iron skillet cinnamon roll to the ridiculously thick cut house smoked bacon, you can’t go wrong. The cocktails are delicious if you choose to indulge. I was especially fond of the spicy pineapple margarita.
We sat at the bar and just had cocktails but they were all pretty good and so were the appetizers. I had never been here before but if you're looking for a place for a quick bite and a cocktail this is a solid stop in old town. Highly recommend the deviled eggs!
Sean was the best server ever. Our first time here and I will be back. Food delicious and atmosphere friendly. We had trout , pork chop and crab rice.
It’s rare when I love everything I order…. I ended up ordering the seven hills chefs cut of beef and the key lime pound cake. I devoured everything and even ordered some blue cheese potato purée to go. I would go back to the restaurant for the potato purée alone.
WONDERFUL experience!! :) I wish I could give King & Rye more than 5 stars. From the moment we walked in, we were warmly greeted and seated a little early since we arrived about 15 minutes prior to our reservation time. The seasonal cocktails were yummy and prompt, and the food was absolutely delicious! Our waited Redwan was attentive and helpful. Special thanks to the Manager Allison and Supervisor Emani for surprising me with a unique personal Igloo experience for my birthday! Originally the igloos were fully booked all month, but due to a last minute cancellation - they got us in! King & Rye goes above and beyond for customer service, the food and drinks are amazing, the decor and ambiance are warm and rustic. What more could you ask for!?
Had an awesome breakfast here. They have some basic but great entrees to choose from and I'm sure it will get you inspired and get you going for the day. Had the eggs benedict and loved it. We had also tried the biscuit and gravy which was awesome too. Gravy was thick with good amount of protein which also contributed to the taste.
Sunday breakfast was delicious. That smothered chicken and biscuit with eggs was down right magical. It tasted like Thanksgiving for breakfast. Deviled eggs was good and the pancakes was extra fluffy.
From out of state and came here for brunch…. Strong drinks, excellent freaking food…. We travel a lot, and this place has great food! Love the scene here and everyone is so friendly!!!
We rented one of the outdoor igloos and it was very cute and warm. The food was delicious and the service responsive! I'd definitely recommend this place for a small celebration.
Even though this is connected to the Marriott hotel, this is not your typical hotel restaurant. The breakfast is very good, and the dinner menu looks nice too. We hung out at the bar several times and had a great time there. There are also people not staying at the hotel that come here which is a good sign. The bar gets packed on a weekends.
While walking by, I popped into this establishment for a drink at the bar(did not get any food). Their signature cocktails were excellent (specifically, I had the Private Select Old Fashioned and their Sazerac). Will be back to try their other cocktails! These could be due to the bartender (Sean) but mine were extremely well balanced and delicious.
I cannot rate the food because I just had drinks. But the lemon drop martini was absolutely one of the best that I have had. The waitress was super nice and extremely communicative. I will be back for food. The ambiance was very pretty and I love the back enclosed patio.
I’ve had a lot of Old Fashioneds over the years, but this Private Select Old Fashioned crafted by bartender Spencer easily stands out as one of the best. The balance was spot-on, the K&R Maker’s Mark Private Select brought a rich, velvety depth that paired beautifully with the Demerara’s subtle sweetness and the earthy kick of Black Walnut Bitters. You can tell Spencer takes real pride in his craft - the drink wasn’t just mixed; it was mastered. Smooth, perfectly chilled, and layered with flavor from first sip to last. If you’re lucky enough to have Spencer behind the bar, trust me - order this.
Food was delicious and the atmosphere was lovely. I just wish they offered some fresh bread, it would make the experience perfect. Service was a bit slow and not as engaging as I expected, but overall still a very nice place to enjoy a meal.
Very nice restaurant located in Old Town Alexandria. Enjoyed most of the food. Not super impressed with the cornbread which is one item they are really known for but everything else I ate there was enjoyable. Nicely crafted cocktails as well.
Our server did an amazing job. I have gluten sensitivity, and though they do not have a gluten-free brunch menu, the server was well versed in the ingredients and substitution options. I don't think I'll come back for brunch but I will be back this winter for their igloo rentals. They have themed cocktails to go with each igloo. In my opinion their dinner menu is much better than brunch.
We sat at the bar and the bartender was nice and funny. My husband enjoyed his salad. My friend enjoyed the buttermilk biscuit which was flaky and delicious. Deviled eggs were good too. I liked the dilly bean. We were there in between lunch and dinner so it was quiet which was a mellow vibe. The music was great…the stuff we grew up with in the 80s.
Overall a nice visit. I would go back and try something else. Service was definitely top notch. I liked the cocktails and Fried Green Tomatoes quite a bit. They did a great job with the tomatoes. I like the shrimp and grits, but would probably try everything else before I came back to it. For breakfast I had the chicken and biscuit with cream gravy. I was hungry so I ate it but it was completely underwhelming. I did like the coffee and the waiter kept my mug topped up which I very much appreciated.
It is a trendy and immaculate restaurant in a top-tier hotel serving Southern-style cuisine. We visited the restaurant a while ago for a weekend brunch and were impressed by the freshly cooked food made with premium ingredients. The food tasted amazing, and the service was outstanding. We plan to revisit this restaurant to indulge in its delicious brunch menu the next time we are in the area.
Came to brunch after church. Got there around 1pm. The cast iron cinnamon roll and breakfast were already sold out. Went with the short rib Pimento cheese sandwich. Overall, I have a good experience, I would like to try something else if I go back.
A date night on the first night of #oldtownalexandria #resturantweek. Dinner at @kingandryerestaurant. Started the night with alfresco dining in the quiet and quaint courtyard. The appetizer was the splendidly balanced pimento cheese starter. The sweet smokey strawberry bourbon bacon paired so amazingly with the pimento cheese spread that I had to ask the waiter for a Togo container of the Bacon strawberry bourbon. The entray of the blackberry glazed pork chop was unremarkable, lackluster, and ill flavored of pork. We finished the night trying the skillet chocolate chip cookie that was over baked, dry and crumbly. The scoop of salted pecan Carmel ice cream had no flavor other than vanilla. Luckily the staff was able to correct some of the dessert and offered the bread pudding with whipped cream and berries, a much better ending to a lackluster meal. A definite return for drinks and appetizers for a possible happy hour, but not a return for dinner.
Yesterday we stopped by for breakfast at King and Rye! We were in the area and it caught our eye and I’m so glad we went in because the food was good! I had the Virginia Breakfast which came with 2 eggs, crispy red potatoes, thick cut bacon and sour dough toast. My boyfriend had the Buttermilk Pancakes with Bown Butter apples, Diplomat Cream and Maple Syrup with a side of ham. The food was good and fresh, I’d definitely love to stop by again and try more items on the menu! The service was also good, the staff was friendly and attentive. I love the aesthetic too of the place, it’s reminiscent of a whiskey bar but more modern and a little upscale. This restaurant is nextdoor and connected to The Alexandrian Hotel. There isn’t parking onsite but there is street parking available around the area which can be tricky to find when Old town is busy.
A good place to stop off for lunch on the weekend. The cheeseburger and fries ($17) were good and, since it closes at 2:00 pm, it wasn't crowded and was nice and quiet.
We stayed at the hotel adjoining this restaurant, so we ate here a few times. Favorites: old fashioned & Brussels sprouts were phenomenal. Least favorite: biscuits & gravy and Mac & cheese. Will absolutely return. Waiter was a little inattentive, nothing major. Cool vibe.
Cute little restaurant off King st. Our server was attentive to our needs and dietary restrictions. I’m a vegetarian and there weren’t many options for me to choose from. I ordered the cauliflower steak and had corn fritters as an appetizer. Both dishes were just ok, a little bland.
I went there for brunch with my girlfriends and we had a great time. Food was great. Their tater tots were not your regular tater tots. They we like fried cubed mashed potatoes. They we extra crispy so that was a win. Will def go back there again. Service wasn't too great. Our server didn't come back to see if we wanted more drinks or refill our water. Good thing the food was great to make up for it.
First time out door brunch after pandemic. A warm welcome place. Good service, waiters and waitresses are friendly. They even provided water to my dog. Food is surprisingly good.We had shrimp&grits house smoked bacon and cream chicken&biscuits with poached eggs. Portion are perfect size for the summertime. My husband added Edwards Virginia ham after his brunch. Southern plates is real food.
Reserved an igloo and had a great time. The process to reserve it was well organized and easy. Hostess was wonderful. Igloo was great. The whole concept was perfect. The server was great, and the food was amazing.
Great food, recommend reservations. Brunch was amazing. The cinnamon roll as you read in every review or article, yes is that good!
The food was delicious. The price was a little steep. It's a great place for a date or quiet evening. There was a happy hour crowd but even that was small and quiet. The menus could use a few more options and more sides included with meals given the price of meals. It cost about $26 for a roasted chicken meal and $34 for a full rack of ribs with 1 side. That is a bit excessive given market rates for those items. However, I do add that the plate presentation was well done, the flavors were great and bountiful. The collars were so delicious and flavorful. The mac and cheese that my partner has was ok, and the fries with some kind of herbs were very yummy. I would definitely return, but not too frequently due to price. I am interested in going one weekend to try their brunch menu which seems to be drastically different from the regular menu. Update: I did return with a girlfriend for brunch. It was nothing special and a bit over price. It was a la carte, so very pricey. Definitely could have had a better brunch experience in the city or another location. The place was packed and the table didnt have a lot of space for our things. The crowd was older folk and families.
My boyfriend and I had a lovely dinner in their courtyard! Redouane was our server and he was wonderful! ❤️ We shared the crab cakes for our appetizer, the trout and scallops for our main courses, and the skillet chocolate chip cookie for dessert! It was all delicious, especially the scallops 😍! The trout was nice, but could've used a lemon wedge to brighten it up. I'd definitely return in the future for a date night or to have a good time with friends! Thank you!
I’ve went to their themed Holiday dinners in the igloos. Both in December for my wife’s birthday. 2024 being the first time was excellent. Braised short ribs over rice was my favorite. Would have ordered 2! We ordered sliders, mac and cheese, drinks and other things. Staff was excellent. The space/igloo we were in was dirty but we overlooked it for our first time. 2025 was our second time returning. This time was not as pleasurable. Waiter was still good. Never had an issue with staff and service. We had the northern lights igloo. The furniture was dirtier than ever. Some of Lights were not working, it was colder than the year before because they have small heaters. Food seems it was changed and not as good as 2024. Maybe different cook? Braised short ribs came a la carte, no rice. To spend over $250 to eat in the cold, on dirty furniture and the food not as good as the year before should not be acceptable. Would return if things are upgraded and made better. Right now they’re 1 out of 2. Pictures are from 2025. My wife had to use the blanket the whole time.
3.5/5 Visited during restaurant week on a weekday evening. Easy to make reservations via OpenTable and was quickly seated upon checking in. We were seated in the dining area near the kitchen and patio and the area was a little dark. Restaurant Week menu was $40 for appetizer/dessert and entree. I chose the deviled eggs for appetizer and pan seared trout for entree as well as Brussels sprouts. The food was very good with hefty portions. I really enjoyed the deviled eggs with the hint of spice as well as the candied Brussels sprouts. Food came out in a very timely manner on a busy evening. At the beginning of our dining experience our server was very helpful with recommendations however our server did not check on us much throughout the evening. Our food was brought by other team members as well as our bill. Great restaurant week deal for food portions and flavors. Nearby paid street parking $$
In old town Alexandria so street parking available. It was a cute place and wish we could have done the Winter Wonderland Igloo experience. Overrall, decent food but a little pricey. Service was also alright. Took some time for us to get our drinks and for things to be cleared from the table and when we asked for recommendations or opinions, we didn't get too much of a helpful response. I had asked whether we should get the grits or the oysters and our server just indicated that the oysters are raw so if we didn't like that, the grits were the way to go. Similar with the dessert on whether the fig Cobbler would be best or the deconstructed Blueberry crumble. Our server just indicated that figs were the main star of the dish so if we didn't like figs, we should go with the crumble. We started with an order of mulled wine and the Smashed & Spiked cocktail. Both were really good but I loved the mulled wine. We ordered the Scallop & Grits for the appetizer which was well made and had great flavors. For our dinner, I ordered the Seven Hills Dry Aged Ribeye and my boyfriend ordered the Local Duck Breast. Although both were well cooked, I felt the dishes were a little underwhelming for the price and not very filling. We ended up ordering dessert ~ Chocolate Peanut Butter Bacon Bar and the Seasonal Fig Cobbler. Both were alright but I did enjoy the ginger ice cream on top. I think coming here for drinks is a good idea as there is decent bar seating.
They do not have draft beer. System is there, but not working. Service was very slow at the bar. They were more interested in talking to people than filling drinks. We ordered a cheese plate and scallops and grits. It took over an hour and food never came. The order was never put in the system. They gave us some free drinks to make up for it. I may go back, but this was not a great experience.
Excellent food served in the sort of dining room you would expect in a hotel restaurant. Jackson 20 is 4-star quality food with pricing to match. Sadly they offer fast cause service at best. This was a real pain point for me because the food was scrumptious.
Update: Went for dinner and everything is just OK. The ideas are nice but the execution needs work. The food looks great but lacks flavor. The steak wasnt even salted correctly, the porkchop was over cooked and the biscuit was dry This restaurant is just ok, brunch or dinner it's just ok. There are better places to spend your money Went for brunch in the cocktail garden. It was $25 a person which included 1 meal and unlimited juice. The juice was only orange or cranberry so you could make your own mimosas. Buying a bottle of champagne was reasonable at $32 per bottle. The food was good but nothing special. Based on the online description of brunch and the reviews I just expected a lot more
We had a reservation for an early Sunday brunch and didn’t get great service. When we showed up we asked if we could be seated outside but we were told “no, you should have put that in the notes of the reservation.” This was not indicated anywhere that we needed to leave notes for the restaurant and we sat inside while watching other walk-in guests get seated outside upon request. We waited about ten minutes before ordering drinks. One of our guests asked if the restaurant could make a vanilla latte but we were told “a latte is espresso and steamed milk and this is what we have.” The service was slow and when our food did come some of the order was wrong. I had the creamed chicken which was great and the cinnamon roll was warm and tasty. The sausage patties were actually ground beef for hamburger made into sausage which was confusing. The bacon was massive chunks of pork belly. Ultimately, I would not recommend but the patio had a cute outdoor vibe (if you’re allowed outside).
Extremely slow service, less than mid food. I had the Virginia breakfast and honestly, Cracker Barrel would’ve been considered an upgrade. Blueberry pancakes had very cold blueberries in a sauce dumped on them making the whole stack cold. Server didn’t know what chocolate milk was (ordered for a child, had to ask another employee to get it.) Absolutely would not try this place again.
