Tip: The macadamia pancakes are a must-try, but the small size is plenty for 2-3 people. Be prepared for a wait and potential noise, especially on weekends.

Okay, Google, get it right! This place is DEFINITELY open for business, and the food is GREAT! I made the mistake of thinking they had regular portions, so I upped the size to large on the extremely tasty macadamia pancakes... ooopppsss! My photos says it all and the price is on point with the taste. If you're going for savory, tasty food, this is a value.
Delicious food and big portions! My husband had a procedure done today and was wanting breakfast after. My friend reminded me of this restaurant that I hadnt been to in 25 years. So glad we went! What i love about the macadamia pancakes is that the topping isn't super sweet. Its just right. We also had the rice plate with Portuguese sausage and the fried chicken. Very delicious 😋 we will be coming back.
We saw this place on TikTok and decided to make the drive, and OMG, it was worth it! We've been there three times. The food was delicious. The short rib was so tender, and the garlic shrimp took us back to Giovanni's shrimp truck on the North Shore—that was our first trip. The second trip was for the loco moco, the best we've had, and even better than any place in Hawaii, LOL. On our third trip, we ate the Kalbi ribs, and how they de-boned the ribs was so good, just eating it with a fork. My only issue with the third visit was that we took a Kalbi dish to go, and that to-go order mainly consisted of discarded bones and fat, with very little meat. My order that we enjoyed there had no bones, but the to-go order had mostly bone. Bottom line, it was so good, and don't even get me started on the mac pancakes! 😋
All the breakfast items I’ve tried have been great but the macadamia pancakes are a must! Absolutely delicious and the small is a great size for 2-3 people. Shaved ice is also yummy but the sugar free had almost no flavor. Service has always been great but the restaurant is pretty small and can get super busy.
The brunch here was crowded. The store is decorated with Hawaiian vibes. The Macadamia Nut Pancakes are a must-try. Even though we ordered the small size, it was still a lot. The Spam Musubi has a nice mix of saltiness from the Spam and sweetness from the soy sauce. For the Breakfast Plate (2 entrées), we picked shrimp, beef, and eggs. The taste was a bit too sweet for my wife, and zero vegetables on the plate weren’t my favorite, only rice and meats. The staff are nice. Definitely worth trying!
Drove from Whittier to try the pancakes and French toast after seeing them on TikTok. Seems like a place where I would like to eat at all the time. I had the French toast with macadamia cream and it was everything I hoped for. My wife had the pancakes. Both meals were cooked perfect and smothered with goodness. I would make the 25 min drive again anytime.
Parking was a breeze, and before we even got out of the car we were hit with the savory perfume of hamburgers and pancakes. Honestly, that smell alone could’ve gotten five stars. First impressions? Extremely promising. Once you walk inside, it’s like being gently teleported to the islands. J Boog was playing, the vibe was warm and friendly, and every inch of the place was decorated like someone said, “Yes, all the island things. Put them everywhere.” We ordered the lau lau, a Hawaiian Sun (obviously), and a Kaula bowl. The food came out lightning fast—like suspiciously fast—and overall it was really good. I say really good with a tiny asterisk, because I take my lau lau very seriously and order it everywhere. This one came in a soup bowl, had quite a bit of liquid, and a strong liquid smoke flavor that caught me a little off guard. Not bad, just not my favorite lau lau journey. Everything else, though? Solid. And bonus points: we ended up chatting with the table next to us, who generously shared their macadamia pancakes. Life-changing. Lightly crisp on the outside and drenched in a magical “secret sauce” that tasted like a glorious love child of frosting and syrup. We are absolutely coming back—for those pancakes alone. 🥞🌴
I’ve been wanting to try them for the longest time! Their hours are a bit shorter than others so when i was in the area, I took my chance of going in. The macadamia pancakes are the best! Sadly I didn’t take a photo of the cream but I’d come back for the pancakes 100%. loco moco was pretty good too! Their portions are decent. Their food comes out pretty quick. Yes, you’d have to wear a mask when you enter! Lots of cars going in and out so you won’t have to worry about parking.
I am a pancake fiend! Nothing like a decadent stack of flap jacks. It's one of my go to breakfasts for Father's Day and my birthday. So when I came across the pictures of these macadamia nut pancakes, I immediately bookmarked the page and patiently waited to turn 47. This stack did NOT disappoint! The cream on top is like that of a French cream pastry puff, only much thicker. Not very sweet, but just sweet enough. The Macadamia nut pieces added a wonderful fragrance and texture too. Its very thick and a good portion-I didn't need to ask for extra! The stacks themselves were VERY fluffy and had a chewy, mochi-like consistency and flavor. Very delicious indeed! My wife got the charshu beef and pork loco moco plate which was also VERY yummy. Tasty gravy and great portions for both (prices are fair too). The place is small, but there is outdoor seating for large parties. The interior is a pot-luck of decorations and there is a laminated picture menu up front. This is a homegrown business that is rough around the edges. But if you like great, unique pancakes, this joint is a must hit!
I’ve had this place bookmarked for a while after seeing it pop up on social media, and I finally made it over this afternoon. First impression was solid. There were a lot of people both outside and inside, which is usually a good sign. One thing I didn’t expect was that it’s actually a sit-down restaurant with table service. I thought it was more of a counter spot, but that wasn’t an issue. This is an independently owned Hawaiian place with a menu that’s bigger than your standard Hawaiian BBQ joint. You’ll find all the classics like rice plates, veggies, mac salad, chicken katsu, pork and beef teriyaki, but they also have more options than most similar spots. I went with the two-item plate and chose chicken katsu and a pork dish the server recommended. I asked about swapping rice for double mac salad, but there’s a $1.50 upcharge, so I went with double veggies instead. The total came out to just over $20. Takeout took about 20 minutes, which was reasonable considering how busy they were. When I picked up the plate, I expected it to feel a little heavier for the price. It wasn’t light, but it wasn’t as filling as I thought it would be. Once home, the food looked good. The veggies were the standout. Fresh, not overcooked, and generous since I ordered double. The mac salad tasted good but was on the small side. For a Hawaiian place, I could’ve easily used more. The pork dish was flavorful and moist and paired well with the sauce they provided. The sauce tasted like a house-made teriyaki style and was actually one of the best parts of the meal. The chicken katsu, unfortunately, was a bit dry and smaller than expected. A couple more pieces would’ve made a big difference. Overall, the food was decent, but the portions, especially the protein, felt a little light for a $20+ plate. I was hungry going in and could finish it easily, but I wasn’t stuffed. Service was great, the staff was friendly, and parking was easy even with how busy it was. I also noticed some other dishes around the room that looked better than what I ordered, so I’d definitely try something different next time, possibly dining in instead of takeout. For now, I’d give it three stars. Good flavors, good people, and solid Hawaiian comfort food. I just wish the portions were a bit more generous for the price.
My daughter got the loco moco and I got the macadamia nut pancakes. The location is small, but they made it work. My group of 5 ate outside. I preferred the loco moco vs the macadamia nut pancakes. Although the pancakes were plentiful, the "secret cream sauce" was bland, the pancakes were over cooked, edges burnt, and the macadamia nuts were stale. Things happen, and it's not going to deter me from giving them another shot. Could be someone's bad day. I'll go back and give them another try the next time I'm in California.
We had the famous pancakes macadamia not very good very mushy. We had the pork Fried Rice. That was pretty good.my mom had to use bathroom they didn't have one available. Wouldn't go back but we're glad we had it one time.
Why would this restaurant have burgers that are huge which is good, delicious, but not serve hamburgers on the weekends? Everyone wants the huge burgers and it's not always available even though honestly the volcano burger is 1 of the best things in the restaurant. Talking about missing on what they think the community wants but other than that (fire whoever made that decision) it's good. Make the burgers everyday ✊️!!!
I wanted to like it, I really did. But just some things about the food and service that kinda left me bummed out. I went to AFF around two weeks ago after a brief hike, so I came with an appetite. Me and my buddy both ordered an Island Plate with different entrees, he got chicken and I got beef. He also ordered the spam musubi and I the macadamia nut pancakes. The food unfortunately was the disappointing part of the visit. The only food item that we ordered that was hot was the spam musubi. The beef, chicken, veggies, even the pancakes were pretty lukewarm at most. The beef especially was disappointing because it was very chewy, pieces of fat were still on the beef so I had to chew a lot in order to not choke. The decor is nice and fitting for a restaurant and the flavors of said lukewarm food were good. I just couldn’t get past the temperature of the food and the chewy beef.
This place have been deteorating in food quality and taste. I had recommended alot of people to this spot in Alhambra I had the worst breakfast last weekend. I ordered Kalbi plate because Loco Loco, Char-shu and Pig.. was not available. Kalbi was 90% Fat and little meat masked in dark sauce. In addition, we've ordered a plate of pancake. . I can't pinpoint the difference but something changed when served. Been coming for special events and the craving for the food here. And the past year we've been disappointed with the food.
You know that feeling when you're excited to try a new place, but the experience just falls flat? That's exactly what happened here. The food was a letdown, starting with the Kalua pork, which was so salty it was hard to enjoy. The pancakes were the worst part of the order, and the macaroni salad didn't have much flavor. It seems the macadamia nuts might have been old and stale, too. But the worst part was the service. From the moment you walked in, the cashier with glasses was pushy and rude. Even after I mentioned it was out first time there, she continued to rush us. The other young lady with orange hair kept repeating that there was no teriyaki sauce, which was confusing and unnecessary. When the food arrived in to-go boxes even though my receipt said it was for "here," the same cashier was apathetic and didn't seem to care. Unfortunately, this experience was frustrating and disappointing, especially when you're looking to enjoy a taste of the islands. With so many other local spots that offer better food and service, it's hard to imagine giving this place a second chance.
