Cute and quaint! My partner and I stayed here while on our honeymoon, and the entire experience was incredible. The hotel was gorgeous, the rooms had character, and the staff was kind. You can walk out the front door and be near a strip of restaurants and stores, not to mention walking distance to the Emily Dickinson Museum and burial site. I absolutely would stay here again and recommend it to anyone looking for a cozy place to stay in Amherst.

Our experience at The Inn on Boltwood was nothing short of extraordinary, thanks to the exceptional service provided by the entire staff, especially Stephen at the Front Desk and Robin, who orchestrated our Welcome Event and 30th Birthday Dinner. The Inn served as the perfect home base for our wedding weekend, ideally situated in the heart of downtown Amherst and within easy walking distance for our guests. It effortlessly combined the historic charm of an inn with modern amenities that are essential for a relaxing vacation. Robin, Stephen, and the rest of the team were not just lovely but incredibly accommodating, always available to address my queries and ensure our stay was seamless. They assisted us in managing our budget for the room block and crafting a memorable Welcome Party on the Terrace with its captivating brick fireplace. Moreover, they went above and beyond by collaborating closely with us to organize a beautiful and intimate 30th birthday dinner in the enchanting Garden Room adjacent to the Restaurant. Their willingness to listen to our ideas and translate them into reality, despite it being a first for them sometimes, was truly remarkable. From elegantly spaced cocktail tables on the terrace to delectable food and drinks, every detail was executed flawlessly. Noteworthy was their quick response to our last-minute need for additional space to organize welcome baskets, for which they graciously provided a conference room, easing our stress. I wholeheartedly recommend The Inn on Boltwood to anyone seeking a memorable stay, be it for a weekend getaway or a wedding celebration, because the staff makes you feel like part of the family. Their dedication to exceeding expectations and creating a warm, welcoming atmosphere sets them apart, ensuring that every moment spent at the inn is unforgettable.

Right in the center of Downtown Amherst, super easy to find! Great service, beautiful rooms and common areas. We didn't try the restaurant (30Boltwood) but it looks nice. The lobby offered complimentary cider donuts every night we were there. Keurig in your room, coffee on tap in the lobby in the morning. No pool, but I saw that there is a fitness center. Overall, a very unique and enjoyable stay.

Wow. This is one of the best Inns I’ve stayed at lately - gorgeous building, friendly staff, located perfectly in the center of Amherst, and the most comfortable Simmons Beautyrest beds you’ll find in a hotel. Loved this place. We were exhausted arriving and didn’t take pictures before messing up the room. No fridge in the huge room - only nitpick I have

The front desk staff were all VERY friendly and accommodating. The room was very clean, and cozy. I requested to have a special sweet treat waiting in our room upon arrival (we were celebrating our anniversary) and sure enough, it was there. Would definitely stay here again!

We had a wonderful small (fewer than 20 people) wedding in the library and greenhouse room at the Inn on Boltwood! Catherine and her team did a great job on a short timeline. They were very helpful, accommodating, and made our event low-pressure which was important to us. The location was a beautiful backdrop for photos. They were very professional and organized and everything ran smoothly!

Historic hotel with modern amenities. Eco-friendly design was a huge plus. Beautiful building with nice lounge areas. Within walking distance of all the downtown Amherst restaurants and bars. As it is a historic mansion, the layout is a little disorienting but you get uses to it quickly. The front desk staff her courteous and helpful.

Just returned from a two night stay at the Lord Jeffrey Inn and had a wonderful experience. The staff was professional, courteous and friendly. The front desk staff went out of their way to help us find things that we could fit into our two day stay, and even looked up hours of operation so we could plan our days efficiently. Food was excellent with a very accommodating chef. Dining room staff friendly and attentive, efficient. Housekeeping, rooms very clean, linens pristine, quick to provide extra linens I requested. All you could hope for in an elegant, five star hotel. Our deepest thanks to all.

Clean, comfy and spacious rooms! I did not really get much service to speak of. I think you have request new towels and change of sheets which I did not do as I only stayed 2 days! I was a bit put off by being told that Sunday morning brunch was by reservation only. I found that odd since I was staying there and many diners were not. But they managed to rustle me up a table. My waitress was a lovely and very helpful young lady!. My server...a young, muscular tattooed guy who wasn't very friendly. All in all it was a bit mixed. But I enjoyed the quiche and coffee!!

I just ordered a delicious, seasonal beer here and sat in the library to study and work. I love coming here anytime I’m in town. So cozy and warm. Lovely staff. I haven’t stayed in the rooms yet, but the restaurant and library are fantastic.

The outdoor atmosphere was incredible. The food was fabulous!! The Head Chef even came out to introduce himself and congratulate us on our wedding. And we can not say enough about our waiter, David. I have been all over the world and have never come across such a knowledgeable, friendly, happy, and on top of it, waiter. Thank you, David!

We recently had the pleasure of hosting our annual company meeting with Boltwood and we are absolutely thrilled with the results. The service was excellent, the room was sunny, and the food was delicious. Staff was friendly and helped us execute our vision, even with some last minute add-ons.

Charming, well maintained historic inn right in the center of Amherst. Attentive and friendly staff. Comfortable guest rooms. I love this hotel's commitment to sustainability. I can't wait for another opportunity to stay here!

Stayed here 2 nights for a wedding. Fantastic staff everywhere in this inn! The room was very comfortable, and the bathroom was recently remodeled beautifully to match the era of the inn. Fireplaces are everywhere. Bar and restaurant personnel went above and beyond. We had a brunch with almost 20 people showing up that they were not expecting and they set up our tables very cheerfully and were so nice and attentive. Lady in the bar the night before literally searched high and low for a liqueur rarely used that was needed for our drink order. And she came through. Just a fantastic time there.

I held my 40th Birthday party at Inn on Boltwood and I could not have been happier with the day-of event. All my specifications were followed, and the banquet service was outstanding. It made my experience so special. I would definitely recommend this venue for anyone looking to host a special event!

My wife and I got married at boltwood this September. From start to finish (almost a 2 year process) the staff at the Inn was attentive, helpful, kind, and in the end they delivered above and beyond our expectations. Catherine, our wedding coordinator, was with us from the beginning. She thought of all the details we may have forgotten and provided the perfect guidance when we had questions. She and the banquet team customized to our specific needs and at no point did we feel we weren’t in good hands. The day of the wedding, Catherine, Dan, Elliot, and Adrianna lead the team and made sure all of our guests and us were well taken care of. Any issue that came up they dealt with swiftly and effectively, keeping our attention on each other and our guests. Chef Jose and his team cooked up hors d’oeuvres, apps, and entrees that our guests are still raving about. The front desk and housekeeping staff made sure our room was perfect and ready to accommodate the bridal party as they got ready day of. Vicky, Marita, and Tom at the restaurant bar did a fantastic job taking care of our guests before and after the wedding. Vicky, the bar manager, also ensured we had everything perfect for our reception bar. Our 3 bartenders knocked it out of the park and our guests were so happy with the selection and their drinks. We truly had our perfect day, start to finish! The Inn is gorgeous in its own right, but the staff within are the ones who truly made this a perfect day. If you are looking for the perfect New England wedding spot, look no further!

My husband and I got married at the Inn on Boltwood earlier this month. We had such a wonderful experience with everyone involved! Catherine is so easy to work with and extremely helpful throughout the entire process! They offered an elopement package that made planning so affordable and easy to plan. The greenhouse room we used was absolutely beautiful and perfect for a small intimate wedding. The staff at the Inn were always so positive and helpful anytime we visited. Our wait staff during the reception were amazing!! We would 100% recommend this venue as an option and can’t wait to visit again soon! We (as well as our out of town guest) stayed at the Inn and had a great experience. It was clean, cute and comfortable. Food was also delicious that everyone raved about!

The staff member that greeted us upon arrival was extremely kind and helped resolve a reservation issue. After providing us with a wealth of knowledge of the surrounding Amherst area and food scene we were greeted with a complimentary bottle of champagne after staff learned we were on our honeymoon. An amazing gesture 10/10 I would recommend this Inn to anyone. Clean rooms, cozy beds, great staff and beautiful location.

Our daughter got married there this past weekend. Everything was just perfect from the time we checked in until we checked out. The venue was beautiful, the food was amazing, the staff was excellent and catered to us the whole time. It was everything the married couple had wanted for their wedding day. We can’t thank them enough for making it perfect. We definitely recommend it.

Great little inn that feels Ike the 1800s but with quality all around. Low ceilings and small rooms (ours at least) add to the ambiance. Well positioned exactly where the campus meets the town.

It’s complicated to find your way around—lots of levels, lots of staircases- but that’s the only drawback. Room was clean and comfortable, and I liked that it uses geothermal heat. Staff were friendly and helpful.

Excellent setting for formal (inside) or informal (outside) fine dining. The adjacent parking lot makes the experience that much better. Wait staff consummate with the entire dining experience. Very nice menu that should suit most everyone. One of few Western MA restaurants that never fails to please. Go!

B
Brianna Rovella

Truly what a wonderful and magical experience. Check in and check out were very easy, the staff was very accommodating and friendly, the Inn provided an old timey feel that we were looking for, the Inn is in the best spot where everything in town is walkable, and the restaurant located right in the hotel (30Boltwood) was delicious (they serve both dinner and brunch)!! We even had a gas fireplace right in our room! It was the most perfect little getaway and we can not wait to return again!!

We stayed at the Inn on Boltwood serendipitously one night, and it was wonderful in every respect. The building is exquisite, the restaurant was sumptuous for both dinner and brunch the next day, the rooms were lovely, the staff was excellent, the location is picturesque, and the fireplace in the library was a magically cozy place to curl up during a surprise snowstorm. I will look for reasons to return to Amherst to stay here again.

I’ve stayed here for years, starting with when I was visiting colleges 40 years ago. It never fails to impress. Staffing, if anything, has stepped up a few grades the past decade or so. It’s personal and relaxed, not formal. Good, hard-working people throughout the property who “get” hospitality. Consistently excellent service. Bonus: fantastic bar.

I
Isabel Streeter Shields

Overall, we were very pleased. Very clean, comfortable, luxurious, accommodating. Major complaints: small bathroom, no roll-away beds or coffee maker, slow service at the restaurant. But 4 stars instead of 3 because the receptionist was incredibly helpful when we had trouble with our room.
My family and I stayed for one night. The building is gorgeous and the space behind the building was very picturesque with space for a large tent—lovely wedding location. The overall layout of the property and rooms is a bit odd, but feels like a cross between a traditional hotel and an old inn, with the excellent cleanliness of a modern hotel and the more private, relaxed atmosphere of an inn. The lobby is gorgeous and has plenty of luxurious seating. Our room was very nice and clean. The beds were very comfortable. The restaurant, 30Boltwood, had excellent food. The location in town was convenient for walks to Main Street.
Unfortunately there are some complaints. The bathroom was too small for comfort, and it needed a fan or vent to combat shower steam. There were no roll-away beds available and no kitchen amenities in the room (especially no coffee maker or fridge.) The service at 30Boltwood was very slow, but the servers were wonderful.
Not perfect, but excellent! We would definitely stay again or recommend to a friend.

Attended a wedding. Lovely location in town. The banquet hall was a medium size and there was a nice lobby area attached for the bar and part of the reception. I missed the actual ceremony but I believe it was outside and the grounds were beautiful. The food wasn't bad. Shrimp was average and stay

Edward at the front desk helped me with a special request for my room, and had a major impact on my stay! I never got to say thank you in person, but his efforts were very appreciated! Holiday decorations were lovely, cocoa station was a nice touch. Dinner in the bar with Nicki (pm bartender 12/10, I think the name was Nicki) was lovely and warm, great service and kind presence.

We recently stayed at this lovely Inn and found many things to appreciate, though a few details kept it from being truly exceptional. Parking was well-organized with clear instructions and a provided pass, though it was quite a walk back from the lot. A 10-minute loading zone in front of the Inn made unloading luggage easy. Our room was spotless and thoughtfully prepared, with an air purifier added for my allergies and scent-free bedding exactly as requested. Both the linens and mattress were excellent, though the bed frame was noisy enough to make sleeping difficult. The evening experience was wonderful — the gentleman at check-in made us feel genuinely cared for, our dinner server was attentive, and the bartender created a fun, welcoming atmosphere. The next morning, however, the tone shifted dramatically. The staff seemed disengaged and borderline rude, which was disappointing after such a warm evening. It felt as though the A-team handles dinner and events while mornings are left to whoever’s available. The Inn itself is beautiful, and with consistency in hospitality, it could easily be a five-star destination. We’re only an hour away and often visit Amherst and Northampton — I truly wish the morning had matched the evening’s grace, as we’d love to return often.

This is a pretty place and the staff is extremely helpful and friendly. The location is great and we had a tasty breakfast at the restaurant. This hotel is very clean. Our room was well appointed but very small and the bathroom sink drained sluggishly. The layout here can be warren-like and confusing but the staff was very sweet and patient about giving directions.

I was the best man at a wedding here, I have a couple thoughts: As a hotel, I was not super impressed. We as a wedding party booked multiple rooms, but the rooms were not grouped together, which made coordinating harder than it needed to be. The first night we were there the bridal party were all in the bride and groom's suite when we got a call at 9:30 saying we were being too loud. When the bride asked if we could go outside, we were told "No, the patio is closed, you can go sit on the front stairs if you want" in a very rude tone. This is completely unacceptable on so many levels. First, you're calling a noise complaint on the bridal suite at 9:30? Second, you do not get to be that rude to hotel guests period, let alone the bride and groom of a wedding. Sit on the front stairs? What the hell? What makes this worse is there was a park across the street with picnic tables (where we ended up going). If the desk had proposed that, it would have been appropriate, but "sit on the front stairs" is just rude. (Also, if we'd been in a block, the rooms around the bridal suite would have been empty and this wouldn't have been an issue, but) The rooms are very small and very expensive. I have paid less for a larger room in midtown Manhattan. Yes this is a wedding venue, but its still absurdly expensive. The wedding itself was good, but there were two serious faults: 1) There were 3 dinner options: fish, chicken, and vegetarian. Everyone had to pre-order. Still somehow the kitchen ran out of chicken and had to give several guests something else. That is completely unacceptable (and frankly insane given they knew ahead of time how many of each dish they'd need) 2) The groom specifically requested the bar stock Red Bull, and they didn't. Its a wedding. It costs tens of thousands of dollars. You can figure out how to stock a very normal bar beverage. So, with just the above info, I would give this 1 star, but the checkout experience boosted their rating: I was not ready to leave right at their noon checkout time, and they let me checkout late with no cost or hassle. I forgot some things in my room, and they called to tell me and offered to mail them to me. Overall, 3 stars.

Very pleasant environment. Ingredients were fresh and the food was well prepared. The service was not great. I'm guessing that most of the staff is made of local college students. Our waiter didn't pay much attention to us. We couldn't get a glass of water without asking. Eventually, the manager started helping which we appreciated. Feels pretty overpriced for what we got. $20 for brunch - coffee, beinets, eggs Benedict.

This place was absolutely beautiful on the outside. Great location. Delicious dessert at the restaurant. The walls and the floor were dirty, however. The elevator is also way too small and we couldn’t bring our baby stroller up or down it. I doubt a wheelchair could fit in there. The bed was also super uncomfortable and the tv was old and small and just full of cable. They should invest in smart tvs. Especially since we stayed in a suite.

K
Kimberly Spence

The owner needs to invest in this run down but charming property. The bathroom grout was dirty with mildew and mold and smelled that way. Use bleach. That smell is better than mold and mildew. Some of the grout needs replacing. Having ice water available in the lobby would have been wonderful. Room care: Housekeeping left the same dirty glass all 3 nites and only two small body towels. For $600/nite it would be good to have a towel for body and hair. TV did not work. The staff are lovely. Location wonderful. But just a little elbow grease and real cleaning products would go far.

A
Alison Laraba

Room was small and a little worn. Multiple dents in door frame, flickering lights, and sink had three cracks in it-was concerned it would give way while I was using it. No direct elevator access to room on 3rd floor. (Was in a wing-from the elevator you went down steps and then up steps to get to the room) There was a weird set up for power in the room. You had to keep a card inserted in a slot by the door for electricity. Parking was absolutely horrible. Approximately 5 on street spots available. Parking lot in back of Inn held maybe 15 cars otherwise you were in the overflow parking lot that was about a block away. They had 5 EV chargers with 10 slots but good luck using one as they were filled with non electric vehicles. When I mentioned this to the manager he said...he wasn't going to ask any guest in an EV spot that is not an EV to move. Soooo if you're a guest with an EV they don't care to accommodate you.

S
Susan Stemper

We arrived at 3:30, and had to wait 30 minutes for our room to be ready, with no apology from the desk. Good service would have been to upgrade us to a ready room, as they were not full. We had a King room, listed as having a "slightly larger space" than a Queen. This room seemed smaller than the queen based on website photos, with barely enough space to navigate around the bed. Neither we nor the staff could wrangle the storm window up, so we were unable to have any fresh air in the small, cramped room. The bathroom was fine. We won't be back.

s
sue friedman

Had brunch there recently. The place was empty yet it took 40 minutes to receive eggs, which were poorly done. When we inquired what the hold up was, we were told they were out of Benedict sauce, and did we want to change order. Since we waited so long already, my friend said bring it without sauce. Then we waited another 20 minutes till food came out. The experience went from expecting a nice brunch, to being agrivated. Definitely not fulfilling our expectation to eat at The Inn at Boltwood. In the end they did comp my friends meal, but it soured the luncheon for both of us. Will not be going back.

This hotel has a great location in Amherst. Unfortunately, I think they know that because of their location, they can get away with astronomically expensive prices for less-than-great service. When we checked in, we were told we had to pay for our room in full before seeing it. They forgot to mention that our room wouldn't be cleaned for the duration of our stay (4 nights) and there would be no breakfast on offer. I feel like we should have been told this in advance of booking or at least when we checked in. The room was a bit disappointing considering we were paying $400 a night. I understand it has been a very hard time for the hotel industry but I think we should have been offered a discount.

My husband and I got married at the Inn two weeks ago and I would not recommend having your wedding here. Although the location and the physical Inn itself is gorgeous, the service in the year/months/weeks leading up to the wedding and on our wedding day was extremely disappointing. I'll start with the great. Bill and the entire catering team were absolutely amazing and made our day. The time spent on making sure every detail was perfect for us was unmatched and the catering team was a joy to interact with! Other than the above, planning our wedding felt like a nightmare. It was not easy to get in touch with the event coordinator and when we did, it was made clear our wedding was forgotten about. There are numerous expenses we felt were unnecessary (we paid per chair and delivery for ceremony chairs, paid per each fan used, etc.). When we arrived, it took us over 30 minutes to be checked in and the small amount of room blocks we were given were not located together. I could write forever about how disappointing the hospitality was at the Inn. We were never made to feel special or cared about before, during or after our wedding (except by the catering manager) and that's unacceptable for a venue that promotes themselves for weddings and events. There were too many interactions with staff that were rude, incompetent and/or disrespectful for us to leave anything more than two stars. We made the best of our day and spent it with our amazing friends and family but I would think twice before ever booking an event here.

My wife and I got married here just recently (Oct 2023). The location, the actual Inn itself, and the catering staff were the bright spots here. Bill and the catering team went about and behind and did a great job. Everything else though was downright abysmal. Months leading up to our wedding we changed wedding coordinators who seemingly had no idea what contract we had, the type of wedding we wanted, etc. Continually our contract was changed or incorrect based on what we had discussed with the coordinators. The room for my wife to get ready in the night before was 400$ more than what we were told when we signed our contract. During the day of the wedding, we saw our coordinator once, Bill with catering did most of the organizing and managed the flow of things. All of the planning we filled out months before on their paperwork was never discussed or happened (i.e., our first dance, the cake cutting, etc). We didn’t even get our cake back after they cut it. Honestly I could go on for a few more paragraphs, but in a word I would say do not waste your time or money here. Everything felt so disorganized that my wife and I ended up running how things went, which made the whole event more stressful for us and our families.

L
Loren Martin

The hotel is nice, but it did not meet our expectations. Particularly for the relatively high cost. When we checked in we were told the parking lot was full, so we had to walk 2 blocks with our luggage in the cold and rain. We weren't offered any bell services. In any event, we expected ample parking given the cost and location. We were told that electricity wouldn't work until we inserted our room key in the slot in the room. Our room was around 60 degrees when we arrived. Very disappointing on a cold night. We had to keep our coats on until we went to dinner. Unacceptable. When we got back from dinner the room was a bit warmer but still cold. The "heat" was blowing cold air so we shut it down. We were too tired to change rooms or deal with maintenance so we got under the covers with an extra layer of clothes. Also, the "full" beds seemed closer to a twin. Definitely smaller than most other full beds we've slept in, and not big enough for 2 adults to be comfortable. The bathroom was too small for a couple and teenage daughter. And no other mirrors in the room outside of the bathroom. Finally, we heard every step from the people above us. They didn't seem to be running or stomping, just normal walking, but we heard it all. So overall not a good experience. We could have stayed at a chain hotel for half the price and been much happier.

A
Angela Mirow

We stayed at the inn for our daughter’s graduation. The room was small but comfortable. Our room was on the third floor. The biggest problem was that the elevators weren’t working and we knew of this only when we got to the hotel. There was not a reduction on the price or a voucher for the restaurant. Nothing, just a sorry. When you pay almost $1000 plus for 4 nights you expect a bit more, not just a sorry and a big smile. I have really bad knees and this was a big deal. We also didn’t see any attempt for the elevator to be repaired during our 5 day stay there. I live in a building with an elevator and when it is broken, the company is there the same day fixing it. Very disappointing!

H
Holly Gagnon

We had my Birthday dinner here on Saturday. We were completely disappointed! This is not fine dining. Very casual and food was mediocre at best. Overall experience was nothing like what was represented on the website.

T
Talia Waltzer

I stayed at the Inn on Boltwood in November 2024. After that, I started getting marketing emails without my consent. Following the company's directions, I've written to them multiple times over several months requesting to be unsubscribed from their marketing emails and for them to delete my personal data. Unfortunately, all of my requests have gone ignored and I continue to get marketing emails from them today.

AVOID if you’re a HotelTonight user. Tried to support local and independent which I regret. The night clerk was very unfriendly and inflexible because I used a third party to book (8/7/25). Room (Room 1) was tiny and in the basement on what seemed like a slow Thursday night in early August. I didn’t even stay - bought another room at the Hilton Homewood Suites which I would highly recommend over this seemingly charming racket of a business.
