This has quickly become me and my roommates' favorite place to grab breakfast or lunch. Delicious, affordable food, super friendly staff, and a comfortable atmosphere. Even on the busiest of days, they do their best to serve you quickly. Whether you're new to the area, have been here forever, or are just passing through, stop by Jay Jays, you won't regret it.
My in laws are regulars here, so we tend to get breakfast or lunch here on occasion. I've never had anything that I didn't like! It's great comfort food at a good price, and everyone working is so friendly and fun! I'm a creature of habit, so I get chicken tenders a lot. My father in law had a burger last time, and it really looked great! Don't forget to try the pies! The coconut cream and chocolate are delicious!
They were pretty busy today first time we’ve been here the food was What’s good I have to say our service from Gigi was wonderful. The eggs were perfectly cooked. My German pancake was cold but Gigi made it right. However the girl who brought it needs to learn customer service. I asked for powder sugar she said it’s on it I said extra and lemons she said they are over there I had used those on the cold one then she took my silverware . Gigi made it right. Ask for Gigi if you want good service
This was our first time at the Jay Jay Cafe. It will not be our last. Amazing food and service! Take a step back in time to a place where you feel wanted and welcome. The staff was so friendly and efficient. Excellent experience!! Great job guys!!!
Was in there on a Sunday morning. The server was nice and friendly. Food was better than good but not quite great. Prices and atmosphere are good. I would go there again and recommend it to others.
Great meal. Had the Salisbury Steak, burger, kids french toast and 3 different pies. It was all awesome and our server was great too
Jay has a little of every thing and it is all prepared nicely. Portions are large and satisfying. The restaurant itself is cozy and quiet. It is a great place to go for a good meal and conversion. The wait staff is attentive and the kitchen crew is accommodating. Tonight I chose 2 items from the menu but combined them in a way that was not on the menu. No one raised an eyebrow. The items were served my at a very reasonable price.
I love Jay Jay Cafe.....food is inexpensive but delicious. They have great breakfast items....everything from fluffy pancakes to home style chicken fried chicken and eggs. Homstyle dinner and lunch items....comfort food that tasty but not greasy. Pies are excellent too. Feels like going to my Mammaw house.
This is my second time eating here, and I can't say enough great things about this place. Food, service and atmosphere are always excellent! Definitely recommend giving them a try!
The food is good, the service is always fast and friendly. Overall it has a very homey atmosphere and the wait staff start to recognize you after two or three trips. I'd recommend to anyone looking for American Diner food. (Especially the breakfast)
Awesome diner breakfast experience. We had the best service there and everyone was extremely friendly. The food was delicious and our coffee cups were never empty! I will definitely be going back. Their pies are also delicious!
Try the nuttlleas crapes. there are good.
Me and my dad came inside this cafe we ordered French toast and pancakes it’s was amazing the wait time was almost instant once we walked in we got a table the service/staff was amazing over all I will be bringing my friends 5 stars
8/2023 Update: Have had a chance to try a few different things on the menu including the pies! Have not come across one meal that didn't please yet!! The staff is always friendly and the service is fantastic. This is one of our favorite places to eat now! Truly a hidden gem! Love that down home feel and the meatloaf is amazing!!! Haven't tried their desserts yet.... Was just too full!!
Very friendly atmosphere. Wonderful food! First time time there. Chicken fried steak plate was delicious. Thank you to the wait staff. As well as management. Greatly appreciated. ❤️
Me and my roommates first checked this place out when we moved in to the apartments across the street. Our last apartment had left us craving a good local diner, and Jay Jay Cafe more than delivered. The food is absolutely incredible and super cheap, the staff are friendly and amazing at what they do, and the tables and chairs are comfortable enough for you to sit there chatting and drinking their delicious coffee for hours on end. We are moving again, but wherever we end up, for sure we will find ourselves making the drive to Jay Jay Cafe. Try the patty melt!
I always order To Go & picked it up myself. I have eaten here many times and it never disappoints. The Salisbury Steak is the best I've ever had, I had it with mashed potatoes w/gravy, pinto beans, Homemade rolls & cornbread, I enjoyed every bit of it. The homemade pies are really good too, I've tried the Lemon Merange Pie, the Blueberry Cheesecake Pie & the Pecan Pie, all three were delicious & the slices are quite big. I love that this place has a lunch plate special Monday thru Friday, I didn't see it listed on their website, just call them, they take their time telling you their special of the day & are always very polite. They also serve a daily special piece of pie. My food is always warm when I get home with it. The food here is really good & worth the trip. Thanks to everyone that works here!
Always a good to place for home cooking. We've been going there for years. Only drawback is they make delicious pies that forces us to make hard decisions on which to eat
Been coming here for 6 years!! It is consistent! Long term employees make you feel at home. Great food at a great price. If you like mom and pop feels then this ia the place! Plus fresh pies made in house daily. Ive NEVER had a bad experience here. Love it!!!
Love their hometown service. Their pies are to die for! I love the. Pecan crusted chicken, son likes the chicken fried steak or mushroom Swiss burger, hubby like the Salisbury Steak. Can't go wrong. Breakfast items like eggs Benedict great too!!
Sweet little cafe (actually, I think they have a whole other side, so that would make them not-so-small) that offers a bit of uniqueness...and lots of pies! My friend and I both ordered the taco salad and enjoyed it. Instead of dressing, they offer salsa and sour cream!! Nomnomnom
My mother and I eat here every Friday for lunch before heading across the street to Tom Thumb for our weekly grocery trip. The food is consistently REALLY tasty and is just good old comfort food, plain and simple, with pies for dessert that are to die for, all for great prices. The staff is incredibly friendly and remember you if you come in even semi-regularly. I've read other reviews in the past that said the staff here treat you like family, and it's absolutely true and not hyperbolic at all. We love this place!
Perfect diner breakfast! Chicken fried chicken with scrambled eggs, hashbrowns (added in onions and jalapeños), and croissant French toast. Delicious! Really good coffee and excellent, friendly service made for the perfect start to my day. Next time, I am trying some pie!
My whole family loves this place. Pie is great, specials are always exciting, and the rolls are wonderful. The staff loves our little girl and the staff and customers are friendly. Don't bother with the bad reviews. Some people just don't know how to enjoy a good thing. Their rating and the number of good reviews should speak volumes over the little bit of whining. I'm so glad we stumbled onto Jay Jay Cafe.
Came in around 1:00 on a Sunday afternoon and did not have to wait very long for a table. Lots of fresh pies available for purchase and menu as a little something for everyone. Service has been great and very friendly.
Great old Arlington restaurant with great home cooking and service. Craig took great care of us. The rolls and cornbread are awesome. Breakfast or lunch works. Senior meals available. And of course you have to end the meal with their wonderful pie.
Good food, reasonable prices, excellent service.
My significant other and I stumbled across this place when we were looking for a new breakfast spot. We were greeted and welcomed as soon as we walked in. The staff is friendly and fast. The food was beyond our expectations. My favorite is the chicken fried chicken with the homestyle fries. The chicken is lightly battered and crispy. The homestyle fries are amazing and so unique that we are unable to find any other restaurant that can make them like they do here. They have their own homemade hot sauce that adds just the right amount of kick to it. My significant other loves the French toast which is dipped in cinnamon. She refused to go to any other breakfast restaurant because there is no other that compares when it comes to Jay Jay's French toast. The coffee is always fresh and the pies are a perfect finish to an already amazing breakfast. Try their strawberry or chocolate cream pie. They are delicious!!
Visit and enjoy! Everything is good, if not downright delicious. Service Team are simply the best! Friendly, personable, attentive, great! They are a perfect complement to the food and atmosphere. Pies?! Treat yourself, you'll be glad you did! Breakfast, Brunch, Lunch, and Dinner,.. SO GOOD! 💯
Food was average & could have used more seasoning for me. Waiters was such a JOY LOVED HER.
I've had breakfast 2x and dinner once. Great food every time. No complaints. My omlette was medium sized but I like that they actually gave me a good balance of meat/veggies/eggs. The Chipotle hot sauce they make is delicious. Knife sliced right though my pancake easily. I hate pancakes that are hard on the bottom. Home fries are my favorite side for breakfast. Trying the chicken fried steak and eggs next time.
Tyiana was my server. Be sure to ask for her. I had the Ginger Apricot Catfish with Green beans and Coleslaw. Do ask for the rolls! Everything was delicious. Many of my friends have been here. Come and have some good old home cooking and you too will return for more. Oh yes, one more thing. Either have a piece of pie or take a whole one like I did.
I have had Fond Memories here, and the service is top-notch! My husband worked late so I ordered 2 cChilen Fried Steak Dinners with extra gravy and a fruit cup to my liking. I am SOOOO HAPPY JayJays Cafe is a hop, skip and a small jump from my residence! God bless all the staff that works there! I have friends that love this place too that don't report about it! Keep up the love! You are Awesome!🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
Great home cooking and excellent pies. Wife had chicken fingers and I had liver and onions. Ample servings of both, served hot and fresh. Apple and peach pie were both very tasty. A long way from where we live, especially with I-20 construction, but we'll definitely be back.
The service was great, our waiter was super attentive and on top of it, also patient as we decided. The food was good, but not my personal favorite.
Friendly staff, delicious food, at low price. Definitely coming back again.
excelent serv. always and very good food and awesome pies
Great hamburgers! We used to go to the Little Rd. location until they closed and had never been to this one. A happy wrong turn brought us here. It was very good, maybe the best burger I've had in a while! We will be back to get some of our favorite home cooking! It was so good I forgot to take pictures!
If my baked potato wasn't dried out, I would have given 5 stars on the food. I spent what I did because I purchased a whole pie
The only reason why I gave them a 5 star because the customer service was great! The young man assisting was very professional and helped us get what we needed. We didn’t buy any food but we did buy a cherry pie which was really good. The place looked clean and it looked like they had like at home feels, it was quiet. We went on a Wednesday but we have notice Sundays they are busy.
So delicious!! And the staff are amazing!! That pie was life!! The chicken and dumplings were like homemade. I had a whole pie lol so gave my boss the banana pudding, which she said I need to go back and get me some lol roll and cornbread, made one less decision on my part 👍 Definitely will be a repeat customer 👏👏
I went here with my family. Afterwards nobody had stomach problems me and my kids had ate the Nutella crepe and whenever I tell you it’s good. It’s good. Good job Jay Jay Cafe👍
This is easily one of our favorite local go to spots! Service is always great, food is always good and staff is nice. We love the idea of home cooked meal at a price that doesn't break the bank. We've had a little of everything here & have yet to have anything we haven't liked. Highly recommend them! Oh, & don't forget the pie!!
It is a nice quaint atmosphere that takes you back to a bite of the past. All the staff are cheerful and welcoming. I never once had to flag down a waiter as they checked up on us regularly. The presentation of the food was nice and the food tasted great! It is a great place to go to for a homey feeling or to just catch up with friends!
Very good food. The TATER TOTS... were GBD... crispy, not greasy (not any on my plate would love to know how they did THAT lol), that perfect crunch when you bite into them, and instead, they were not heavy like potatoes but perfectly done fluffy pillows of hot heaven wrapped in crispy, crunchy Golden Brown Deliciousness! The only down is they had ZERO seasoning. They would have been the perfect total on the planet with a touch of spicy seasoning or salt pepper and garlic. When they were hot, they didn't need ketchup or any condiment. Would make great chili cheese tots with mustard and chopped red onions on the side. One of the other servers, not ours, made me a chocolate chiffon pie to take home because they were out in the pie case like it was just as easy as bringing me a glass of water. She was so sweet and of course I forgot her name. We were there 2/23/24 @ 1:30, so maybe she may read this and know that I appreciated what she did and if we had more cash I would have given her a way bigger tip. The one on the CC/ticket went to our server. I felt really bad, only given her $4. I just keep a couple of $ for my lunch adventures with the littles at school for them a dessert.
The chicken fried chicken is the best we’ve had in a while. My husband is a chicken fried chicken connoisseur and loves it! Everything was great. I would have preferred the banana pudding filling in the strawberry crepe to be in the Nutella crepe. The Nutella crepe comes with Nutella filling so it was a little bit too much for my preference. The customer service was wonderful, every person was very mindful and willing to help with a smile when our waitress was unavailable. Enjoy!
We ordered breakfast from this place a couple of months ago and it was really good. I loved the food I ordered, Chilaquiles & Eggs. My significant other got a little bit of everything based on a traditional American breakfast. The food absolutely tasted homemade and was delicious. I would absolutely order from here again. We didn’t dine in, so I can’t account for the atmosphere of the restaurant.
It's good food for the money. We have been going every weekend for the past few years. It's 10 times better than Division Street dinner or SkilletnGrill. It's a basic American breakfast that is priced right for the quality. The Sodas always taste normal, the coffee is decent and never taste burnt or bitter. Friendly staff... It's probably about the same quality as IHOP without the waiting. They have a ton of pies they're always making... I'm not a pie person so I don't know about the quality on that...just know they make a lot of pies.
Very friendly and courteous Staff. The food is fresh, warm and tasty. Good value for the price. The pies are GREAT!
This is a very good place 👍🏻 breakfast sirloin steak, eggs, potatoes & hash browns are delicious 😋 my go to... Just one problem the last time I ate here I ordered my eggs sunny side up and well my eggs were a bit runny /x_x\
Great friendly service with delicious food. Fast service with great traditional breakfast menu. Plenty of regulars along with first timers. You never leave disappointed
I was welcomed in and seated almost immediately. They have great staff and good pies. The only thing I don't suggest is the meat loaf, it made my boyfriend really sick to the point that he threw up. I do suggest the chicken fried chicken. Overall it was good but be careful around the meat.
Nice old fashion cafe. Awesome breakfast but even better home made pies. I took an apple pie home. Reasonable priced and seating was fast as well as service. Friendly clean and very home feeling. Good parking area and right off a main street with a traffic light to help to turn into.
We recently had dinner for the first time at Jay Jay's. The breakfast has always been impressive and the dinner menu looks great. Well, it's definitely really good homestyle food. Both the meatloaf and chicken fried steak were very good, so we're the sides. Wish they didn't close so early (8 pm) but otherwise it's terrific. Edit: As much as we like Jay Jay Cafe, we stopped going because their prices have gone up way too much. When breakfast here costs as much as dinner at Prince Lebanese Grill, that's just too much.
First time there, friendly people, good food, they have pie
These guys are the real deal on home cooked food. I'm not sure why they have negative reviews because the things that make them stand out are undeniable. Take, for instance, the Salisbury steak. The mushrooms are fresh and sautéed from scratch. The CFS is pounded and hand breaded. The yeast rolls are fresh made and the cornbread is cornbread NOT corn muffin mix disguised as cornbread. Let's not forget to mention the REAL ice tea. Being a native Texan....we know tea is supposed to be dark and strong. Most places tea is nothing but colored water. Not JayJays, it's wonderful and full of real tea flavor. The only thing that ever bothers me is sometimes the waitresses are not friendly. Not that they are rude, it's just that they're not friendly. That said I'll still drive the 25 minutes from Fort Worth when I'm wanting a good blue plate special.
Walked into Jay Jay Cafe with low expectations and high cholesterol, and let me tell you—it did not disappoint. The menu reads like your Southern grandma’s diary: chicken fried everything, gravy where vegetables should be, and breakfast available anytime because naps are also anytime. I ordered the daily special, which I think was called “Regret on a Plate”—chicken fried steak, mashed potatoes with enough butter to ski on, and a roll that could qualify as a flotation device. Washed it down with unsweetened tea, because I like to pretend I’m making healthy choices while my plate wheezes. Then came the strawberry pie. I didn’t order it. It just showed up. I swear it floated out of the kitchen on a cloud of Cool Whip. One bite and I knew: this pie had been blessed by someone’s meemaw. The strawberries were fresh, the crust was flaky, and for a brief moment, I forgot my name, social security number, and every time I said I was “cutting back on sugar.” Jay Jay Cafe isn’t just a restaurant. It’s therapy—served warm, with gravy, and a slice of pie that’ll change your life. Or at least your waistband.
Jay Jays was a pleasant place to find a meal at affordable prices. Our waitress was really nice and made good recommendations on what to get. We ordered the cheese fries to start with their homemade ranch. They were tasty and filling, but be advised they are made with processed cheese slices and bacon. I had the pecan chicken and a dinner salad that counted for my 2 sides. The chicken was thin and so tender I could cut it with my fork. I would recommend it. The chicken fried steak looked and tasted like it was heated from a pre made frozen variety. We did not try the pies but they looked delicious. The prices are great here and they have specials for lunch and dinner.
We stopped in for a weekday breakfast, lured by the idea of homemade pies. They have a basic American cafe style menu, with some Tex-Mex options. My husband was thrilled with his omelet, which was nice and fluffy. I wasn't quite as excited by my breakfast, but we did enjoy a cinnamon roll. And the pies looked delicious!
Good food. I'm never a fan of alot of wood in a diner setting as it is difficult to clean and time shows wear. If you're a pie person they have a hell of a selection. I enjoyed a ranch chicken sandwich and some Boston Cream Pie.
If you're coming here it's for the diner/cafe ambience and the value food. The food is good, but it's just good. I mean it's fine for me, but I'm not fancy. There's plenty in here that Gordon Ramsay would lose his mind about. Club sandwich tasted fine. Bottom bread was soggy and falling apart, appearance was that of a generic sandwich I would hurriedly make in my kitchen at home. Okra was very good. Meatloaf looked listless and unappetizing, though I am told that it too tasted fine. Price was low, so thats why people come here. I suspect it's a large part of the reason that the average age of their customer was about 65. I'd go again for the value and because I'm not picky, but it's certainly nothing to write home about.
Place is right off of bowen across the street from Tom Thumb. Very cramped parking lot. I went to get a slice of pie and the waitress gave it to me in a Styrofoam take out container smashed to pieces. My food that I ordered got me sick not sure if it was cleanliness or a bad experience. One waitress very rude the other one very professional. But probably won't be back . Food was hot but biscuits were missing and stomach was a little malaise after meal.
I am giving this place a 3 stars simply because they have just about priced themselves out of our budget. Food is good, portions good, service good, vibe good and we prefer Jay Jay's over all the other local diners on 303 and Division, but not sure we can continue to pay 30% - 60% more for comparable food. I think they need to reconsider their pricing. 9 months later - still way over priced compared to other diners in the area. Compared to the diner on Pioneer Parkway near Bowen Road at Jay Jay's the side of bacon is 29% more, the bowl of grits is 43% more, and the Classic Combo Breakfast is 41% more. As mentioned, service is good and the food is good, but not worth 40% more!?!?
Very disappointed with my pick up order. I ordered a turkey sandwich and got a hamburger on a toasted bun with thousand island dressing, onions, tomatoes and pickles and mayonnaise. Two of the items I’m extremely allergic to! So eleven of my hard earned money was wasted.
Tasteless coffee, thin bacon with little flavor and meh eggs. Requested choice of bread for toast, waitress gave options but never bothered to mention that anything other than plain white bread would have an upcharge... really??!! Very Disappointed. Waffle House is better....and you have "added atmosphere".
The service wasn't the best. The waitress disappeared and took other customer orders before bringing syrup to the table. Syrup is a must for pancakes. The food was warm, hasbrowns were hot, pancakes were ok but seem mass produced and not hot. I wanted to like this place but the experience and the food isn't worth a return visit for my family of 4.
It was not the best 1st experience here. On Friday morning I wanted to treat my mom when she flew into Texas. We were sat at a table, ordered food, & no one came back. Two other tables sat, ordered food & ate.. Finally we had to go ask someone what was going on with our server & food. The food was fine & hot once we received it but we just didn't have service like we expected from here with coffee refills etc.
I’ve been coming here for a few years and it’s always been pretty good. Where I volunteer, the ladies had told me it had gone downhill a bit but I like to see for myself. Ordered from UberEats and it was not good. Ordered bacon, got turkey bacon which was like rice paper with no flavor. The pancake on my order and my partner’s were very thick and undercooked. The flavors in everything were underwhelming. I’m sure I’ll try again in the future but it’s going to be a while, I’m so disappointed.
This was a take out expirence. My partner went in to get the food, she told me upon approaching the counter. She was not greeted, and when the cashier noticed her she seemed startled. And after my partner knowledge her name the cashier "pointed" where she could retrieve the food. She didn't appreciate the non interest that was presented. To say the least good price on the food, under seasoned.
Took so long for us to get our food. We asked for plain hamburgers but they put melted cheese on. Then when we asked for a redo, they messed the order up again. Tables are very sticky and the food is very plain and has no taste. There’s also a fly.
I picked up a chicken salad to go, and it was a total disappointment. The salad was a mess, and the chicken was tough. After one bite, I had to toss it. I can’t believe I wasted $15 on this!
My wife and I went yesterday morning and for some reason I noticed it wasn't busy as it was in the past. Before I knew it there was a big roach on our table. We left our drinks told the server about the roach he killed it on the table cause I had it trapped with my hand. Guess it was the manager who came and apologized and said they had barely sprayed the night before but there was no odor from the chemicals. Not sure if we'll be going back anytime soon.
Placed order for 4 pies week in advance. Showed for pickup. No order. No pies available. Just kinda shrugged shoulders. Make sure to confirm several times they actually have your order. They don't care if they don't tho!
1st time ordering from Jay’s, pickup order. Upon entering, was close to cancelling order due to seeing flies…multiple, counted at least 7 flying around near the front. Decided to take a chance since it’s a hot day, flies could be coming in near front door (even flies want to escape this heat)…still had reservations with that many flies in a restaurant. Ordered ABC Omelette with a sub, and Chicken Fried Steak Breakfast. Once home and digging through the bag, noticed they forgot an add-on/substitution. Strike 1 ABC omelette was unexpectedly small, not a deal breaker, but when you add spoiled avocado to the top (hint: if it’s brown, it’s bad! Never serve brown avocado!) that’s a Strike 2. Chicken Fried Steak Breakfast was okay, but the steak tasted frozen/from a box, eggs and hash were okay. They forgot to add cheese as requested. I’d rather go it iHop and get their steak breakfast, Strike 3. Had high hopes when stopping in, but will not be going back. 1st impressions are everything.
These guys cancel orders in the morning and don’t gov eBay reason for it. What a joke.
Horrible tasteless food. I used to go to the one on little road. This one is terrible. Absolutely NO flavor. Not enough spices in the world to make this food better. 😔. What a waste of my hard earned money!!! Will NEVER order from here again. Save your money!
Good and service was good. Got the Salmon special. My whole family had stomach cramps and diarrhea the following morning after eating dinner. A family member said the same thing happened when they ate there.
Well it's the picture of the Steak 🥩 and Eggs that pulls you in. I was looking for Liver and Onions! 😂😂😂🤦🏽♂️ I probably should have ordered something else. I ordered Liver and Onions with Grits and Over easy Egg 🍳 and a side of Collard greens because someone had some and I just to try them since they gave me a Sweet Bread 🍞 🥐 roll and a Cornbread Muffin. So the Liver and Onions 🧅 taste like they just opened the pack and just thrown it on the Grill with no Seasoning!! the Brown Gravy that came along with it was Bland as Well. The Grits had no Salt and were Very Watery I tried everything to help them out. I really forced my self to eat because I don't like wasting food. The Greens were watery too no flavoring. I think it's because of the Customer base that the food tasted the way it does with no Salt because everyone in there was 70-80yrs old. The Free rolls were the best part of my Whole meal I asked for extra the buttered rolls are amazing, people must just come for the Rolls and tolerate the horrible food. Yeah👎🏽 It's a No for me!!
Service and staff was trash. Food freezer burned. Ate the salad that came WITH the Freezer Gate meal and was charged $3.29 on the receipt!! I told them it was “tacky”. The nonchalant manager then said she “took the salad off” as if she wasn’t the one the put the salad “on” and for me to have a better day. Will DEF not be back!
Ordered chicken tender and was told they come in an order of 5 got 4, mashed potatoes were very watery more like potato soup and a 6 ounce cup of pinto bean juice. Overall small portions for 15.00, nice place for last min resort.
