Opinions de Sam Woo Cafe Artesia
I recently went to Sam Woo Cafe, and took my mom there. We went in, and it was still early enough that we were able to order dim sum. And of course, my mom made friends with the server, and everyone around us. The food was good - hot and fresh. You have to sign up on a wait list, and they call your name, and even though it was the middle of the day, on a weekday, we probably waited at least 30 minutes for a table. I would definitely go back.
Sam Woo Café in Artesia is a solid go-to spot for dim sum and Cantonese comfort food. We tried a little bit of everything—chicken shumai, turnip cakes, shrimp fried rice, spare ribs, shrimp rice rolls, and more—and everything hit the spot. The portions are generous, the prices are easy on the wallet, and the service is quick, even when it gets busy on weekends. The oolong tea pairs perfectly with the meal, and there’s something for everyone on the menu. Definitely recommend coming here if you’re craving good, classic Chinese food.
1. The dim sum was deliciously comforting, and I really like how big the shiu mai were! 2. The spot has fun casual vibes with a spacious interior! 3. The staff was friendly and timely with our order! Note: There are restrooms with multiple stalls for customers! Photo: Steamed Rice Noodle Rolls, Pork Wonton & Shrimps with Chili Oil, Pork Shiu Mai, Sunkist, and Tea
Tried this Dim Sum restaurant at Artesia. Surprisingly there was a wait for lunch at this eatery even for a Thursday. The food was delicious, was reasonably priced and the portions were bigger than other Dim Sum restaurants in the area. A must try if one is craving for Dim Sum.
This will be short and sweet. We ordered from the pictures. So for the most part you get pictures of my order but I don’t recall the names. Regardless all the dumplings a were fabulous. They come out hot and be careful you can get a tongue burn. The noodle and beef is superb. Big selection of teas with boba options. Service is quick. In fact super quick. Not the most sociable folks but not rude at all. Just very efficient at delivery high quality food. Definitely will be back. Parking is a bit challenging during peak hours.
GREAT FOOD SPECIAL BAKED PORK BUNS AND SEASAME SEED BALLS MY ALL TIME FAVORITE. NICE CLEAN RESTURANTE WITH TABLES AND BATHROOMS. TOBENJOY YOUR FOOD IN OR TAKE OUT.
4/20/2025 = 5 star = 2nd time here and bring entire family , still good experience, we never have issue, will try again soon . 3/23/2025 = 5 Star = First time in here, we've been craving for Dim Sum and this is the only place serve all day Dim Sum , I been to a different Dim Sum place and this place I can give 5 star for now, coz the serving is pretty fair or better than other place I go. I will try to visit again soon and we will see if they are consistent on the service and food .
Salty savory and most delightfully full of flavor. Hong Kong 🇭🇰 Cantonese cuisine will water your palates with their many assortment of Dim Sum offerings here. You can't go wrong with the seafood chow mein and fried rice dishes. Definitely try their appetizers like cucumbers and garlic and kimchi. It's really refreshing and full of bite. The Penang noodles soup with fat juicy shrimp is Absolutely Amazing. The service staff are very knowledgeable and speak English too. Extra clean restroom available for disabled customers and regular paying guests. Huge space to have your next birthday celebration too. Enjoy 😉
Great dim sum place. Came here on Sunday noon is probably the busiest time of the week. Wait is 30 min or bit longer. Their food is super hot and freshly made. All menu have pictures and easy for you to order.
Good place to go in this area for dimsum. Staff is pretty friendly if you take the time to talk to them. This place focuses on dim sum as it's about 80% of the menu. Less on entree type dishes. Everything tastes cooked fresh and hot. Just be aware some items may run out later in the day. Some items seem to be cooked only in the morning and taste better then
This place is our to go to place whenever we are craving chinese food. You can never go wrong with Sam Woo. My daughter celebrated her birthday here and she requested to go here. Thank you for making her birthday special.
This is one of the best dim sum places I’ve been to, with good variety of food options - including the less common ones like the cocktail buns, steamed sticky rice balls. I particularly appreciate how nice the shrimp har gow and other steamed dim sum wrapper is - not too thick, chewy and still intact when you pick it up! Highly recommend this place! They don’t have outdoor dining space, we got take out and ate at the tables outside (shared with other restaurants) and it worked just fine!
It’s not the kind of dim sum place with carts roaming around the floor but they give you a colored paper menu that you tick boxes of what dishes you’d like to get. The dishes don’t arrive immediately, you have to wait a bit, but they’re all hot, fresh and delicious. It’s best to go with a huge group so you can taste all their offerings, or you can keep coming back. Custards seem to always sell out, so try those if they’re available, shrimp har gow & shiu mai are our top picks. We got the Sam Woo chicken once because it looked like Hainanese chicken but it came out a bit undercooked.
Visiting from out of town & was craving dim sum. Normally I eat dim sum for brunch so when I heard this was available for dinner I got excited. Brought my friends who hadn’t been here before & met up with some other people so we had group of 6. Good size b/c it allowed us to share multiple dishes & people who didn’t eat pork had options too. We had shrimp har gow, chow fun noodles, Shu mai, Chinese broccoli, spare ribs, fried rice, & fried noodles all topped off with cups of jasmine tea. The food & smells were on point! They don’t roll around with the carts, but u mark on the menu which items u want. The main con I had was that they brought the bill by rather quickly and we had barely dug in on the main courses. We had the bill altered because we ended up ordering more food. That felt a bit rushed.

This new Dim Sum spot is a must try. Authentic food came out super fast and it tasted delicious. We came for lunch and was seated right away. We got the congee which was perfect for the cold weather. You could taste the quality! We also got the seaweed fried shrimp, shu Mai, and the fried tofu with special peanut sauce. This is definitely going to be our new spot.
At Sam woo cafe, I really enjoyed their dim sum. You will find a wide variety of dim sum dishes and great portions at this restaurant. There is a very clean environment and the servers are very efficient. The space is a bit small, and there are not many tables, so I would recommend avoiding the rush hours. It was a great experience coming here on Saturday at 10:45 a.m., we had to wait only 10 minutes! The portion was a lot that we did not have space to try their dessert, but we will definitely return in the future.
We came in for dinner time and ordered a good spread of dim sum. Overall the food was good and hit the spot. What I recall: - shumai - was stuffed but a tad on dry side 7/10 - ha gao - really packed and surprisingly scrumptious 9/10 - beef chow fun - it was good, beef was tender and veggies were crunchy. Noodles were cooked well and provided great mouth feel 10/10 - Egg + Pork Porridge - I really liked it, it was a good balance of saltiness and I like to add black bean shortribs into it to add some extra flavor zing. 9/10 - Tripe in spicy sauce - it was spicy, had a nice kick and texture was good. 9/10 - Wonton in spicy oil - disappointed in this dish; the wonton barely had any wrapping and the taste didn't feel right. 2/10 - Baked and Steamed custard buns - I liked both and highly recommend them as a meal ender 10/10

Food came out quick. We tried their egg drop soup, pork/shrimp siumai, shrimp rice roll, hainan chicken, beef udon, wonton with chili sauce and chinese brocoli with oyster sauce. We all agreed that the pork/shrimp siumai was the best out of all the food we ordered from their menu. The texture of the beef udon was good, but all we could taste was pepper.
Great Dim Sum. Bbq pork buns were my favorite. Must be newly open as this is only its 3rd review. The menu is very user friendly with pictures, even some of my illiterate friends would be able to place an order.
For authentic dim sum experience, Sam Woo Café is the goto destination. There's another Sam Woo restaurant a block away, but this place is newer, cleaner. But don't expect fine dining service, heck, or average service. It's not rude, but that's part of the "authenticity", you have to flag down the servers. It took a few attempts to get our tea pot refilled. 2 items didn't arrive but we didn't get charged for them. Pay attention on the order receipt to make sure they entered it correctly. You could order more as you go, as they provide a new order sheet where you jot down your order. Old school. The food is excellent, we found some dishes better than Lunasia around the corner at lower price point. No worries about language barrier, English is fine, although the servers might not have the patience to explain each dish. Can't go wrong with the Pork Shiu Mai, Juicy Pork Dumpling (Xiao long bao), Egg custard, BBQ Pork Puffs and Malaysian Sponge Cake. If adventurous, check out the Beef Tripe w/ ginger & scallion and Spare ribs with black bean sauce. I was told the chicken feet is good as well, but that's where I draw the line.

Gosh, it took 20-25 minutes to get just 4 orders of dim sum. They do advertise that this establishment isn’t a fast-food joint but rather a place that makes everything from scratch, so being patient is a must. I understand that, but honestly? I’ve never experienced such slow dim sum service before. It almost feels like you should call ahead next time if you want to order to go. The overpriced items combined with the long wait for just okay dim sum really left a bad taste. While I appreciate the quality of their food and the fact that they take their time, the sluggish service and high prices make it hard to justify a return unless you're really craving their offerings and are prepared to wait — and pay a premium for what’s average at best.
Small location, limited amount of seating. The food came out really fast. My sister and I thought the food was eh. We don’t have a tongue for dim sum food. The rest of my family (elders) liked the food. I would not come here again, but this place may be good for you if you have a tongue for dim sum. Crowded, busy, and tight seating. Table space was limited for our table, it was a bit hard to eat. Expect a wait. We arrived at around 11:30 A.M on a Sunday. There were 11 people in front of us on the waitlist. Our wait time was an hour for 5 people. The employee in charge of the waitlist had a bit of a sassy/rude tone, but remained professional. I saw guests having conflicts and questions with him about the waitlist. Average costumer service. Nice decorations and atmosphere. Medium sized parking lot.

We were craving dimsum and we wanted to try a new spot so we decided to come here. I was very excited because of the high rating and the pictures food look good. However, the food was decent but nothing spectacular but the service was unfortunately poor and we had negative first time experience because of that. First of all, the person who was helping us had poor communication skills we had to explain every word and repeat multiple times, the food didn’t come in time for example we ordered chilly cucumbers and they never came we had to ask and remind them so they brought it at the end, we received couple orders that were sent to a different table we had to correct the waiters. It was just a mess I think they should invest in training the staff and let people who can communicate well in the front. Moreover, the understaff restaurant will create a negative experience for customers so maybe they should hire more people.
