All the reviews posted are accurate. If you want great drinks, food and atmosphere, this is the place to be!
Get the fish tacos with guacamole. Out of this world. Right next to it there are ices - the lemon ice is perfect when hot out.
Love this place! They have the best tacos and art on the walls.
Hopefully it will be back in full effect very soon! Omggg!! So sorry guys I thought I did press the full five stars. I was doing this ,this morning on my phone!! Hope to see you soon!!
The fish tacos are something to brag about plus outdoor tables you can hang out at.. good vibes
So fun, they have golf simulators so you can come in have a few drinks and play some golf. It's great for the winter time or a rainy day. They also have events here, where they use the simulator screens to show big games and events. I would definitely recommend, it is easy to miss from the street, but definitely stop in!
Amazing Tacos, awesome drinks, lovely atmosphere! You cannot stop by and not have their amazing fish tacos! you will not be disappointed!
Great vibe here, Awesome Tacos! Close to the beach, lock up your board and grab a cold one! Plenty of out side seating, cool decor, and Fish Tacos! What else would you want?!
The Rockaway beach surf club has a very relaxed vibe with an excellent yard, with it custom made benches made from steel and recycled wood debris from hurricane Sandy. Its a great place to meet up with friends after a day at the beach or just to get one of their excellent margaritas. If your in the Rockaway beach area this place is definitely a place to visit.
Great outdoor space, bit busy on the weekend, but we'll worth the wait for one of their fish tacos. Make sure to add guacamole to your taco.
I always passed this place heard of the hoopla finally tried it with my friend went back the next day for 2 more of the fish tacos. Very good the staff is right on getting the line moving and super friendly
The line was unbelievably long but not as unbelievable as the level of deliciousness of that fish taco. HOLY COW...I mean HOLY FISH! Get a piña colada around the corner at Connolly's beforehand and it's a match made in Rockaway heaven.
Came here while my dead car was being repaired after getting stranded in the Rockaways after car trouble . I had to wait a few hours for my car to be fixed and found this place while strolling the neighborhood . It was packed , service was fast . Prices were good and the food was amazing . will def be back on next beach day .
Went for the NY Womens Surf Film Festival and had an absolute blast! Great atmosphere and lovely staff. Very good for a post-surf pint and tacos :)
One of the best taco places in queens the only think is you have to wait at least 45mts to get you food but is worth it !!
Tacoway Beach is the tastiest, easiest, post surf meal you can have in Rockaway. Always leave happy after going there.
Two words: fish tacos. Food is as good now as it was four years ago. (What's up with the previous review? Laughable.)
The best tacos and atmosphere! Very relaxed locals vibe, and it turns into a noodle spit in the winter!
Great food, funky vibe. I do miss the tacos etc in the winter. Having them year round would be great.
Super unique place, a must if you're going out to Rockaway you visit the beach. Taco line is too long though. Cash only.
Awesome atmosphere & great food. As a rockaway local I find this place to be a great entertainment spot for my visiting friends. Great place to chow down after hitting the beach!
Probably the best Tacos I've had in New York City. Great location, two blocks from the beach.
Sincerely the best time I have had in Rockaway this year. I went with a friend from Flushing, another from the lower east side and my fiance and I that both live in Rockaway Beach. The best time we've had in a long time since staff is super welcoming, the music is nice, and the tacos are super, super, super delicious and not to mention cheap! I recommend the Margaritas and frozen Pina coladas ;)
Great tacos, great drinks, great atmosphere. But be prepared to wait in line for a little bit and youll need the eyes of a hawk to pin down a seat on the busy days.
The vibe here is just incredible. Magical. Felt like I was in a movie about a California beach town in the 90s. Family friendly, everybody friendly. Feels like locals run the place and it’s just… rad. Great cocktails at a cash-only bar, delicious tacos you can order from your phone. Went for live music and a friend’s art show and now I’m considering moving to the Rockaways. Just kidding… or am I?
great, great little place. the line is always long but the wait is worth it. their tacos are very fresh and not the usual beans / cheese wasteland. their guacamole on the other hand needs some work, and i have had better elotes too.
Oh my god, the best tacos you can get in Barack away.. Great atmosphere.. Music.. Cocktails... Just a great place to go..
Amazing place, best fish tacos (fried fish) at $3,50, lots of tables (with umbrellas) and seat, very laid back atmosphere, cool music. The juices are also really good, we took the pineapple mint and the pineapple drank. I wouldn't recommend the black been and cheese quesadilla, fish tacos with extra guac is the best!
AMAZING fish tacos! Definitely one of the best on the East Coast. I don't what gives it such an amazing flavor? Is it the salty air? Is the amazing ingredients? Or the guy behind the grill? Maybe a combination of things. Definitely not a disappointing. Make it deluxe with guacamole! Also to drink? They have a Pineapple Mint. Amazing drink made with crushed pineapple juice and mint! Sort taste like a pineapple mojito without the booze... It is a bit pulpy but I dig it! I love to suck the pulp from the ice cubes after drinking it.
Such a great spot. Super chill, awesome bartenders, frozen drinks are on point, outside area, tacos…. What more do you need?? Close to the beach, two blocks from the boardwalk in Rockaway Beach
This was a great Mexican restaurant for tacos right on the beach. I am not sure if they will rebuild after Hurricane Sandy, but give them a call in late May. It is worth the trip. Very inexpensive. Service is great.
Nothing but good vibes at this local spot! The crowd is very down-to-earth. The bar tenders are full of positive energy and mix awesome drinks. It seems they reguarly screen surf films which compliments the atmosphere. This is a good spot to get involved with the local surf crowd or just meet awesome people if you're new in the area.
I'd definitely order all the extra taco toppings on the side next time, bc its a little overloaded, but really delicious food, strong drinks, and cute rockaway beach ambiance
It's a great experience, sometimes there's even live music. Safe and fun in the sun☀️
Order placed and enjoyed the clank of the subway as I enjoyed the sunshine. Shortly my order was done, name called and away I went with a pair of sublime fish tacos with guac!
The Best!!! A joyful experience for your mouth, belly and soul! Don't nap on the black bean and plantain quesedilla either. Find myself waiting for summer every year just to get me some Rockaway Tacos.
I have been coming this place every summer. I was there for a quick lunch today and ordered chips & guacamole with watermelon juice. The chips were like they soak them into a salt pool and serve it after. I couldn’t have the avocado’s taste even( they only meshed the avocado and served with slices of reddish). I paid $25 for all. No more words.
Amazing tofu tacos! Loved the pineapple tea also
This was a great little place. The people were very nice there. The food was amazing. Me and my brother got the fish Taco with guacamole, and it just was wonderful. Can't say a lot about the decor, but it looked nice outside. :)
It's a fun place. We enjoy it. I had been there before with my son Jason Rupp. On Labor Day, I went with three other women to enjoy a reception for the art of the Women Surf Film Festival. Great atmosphere and food. I had a vegan taco plate I shared with friend Raquel. Also, I shared a perfect Pina colada with friend Suki Rae. I also liked my cold and refreshing watermelon 🍉 drink. We four danced (including friend Laurie) to the music of the DJ. Friendly place. Laurie and Raquel ordered and loved their Mexican-style corn 🌽 on the cob. Suki liked the fish taco with all the trimmings. You eat picnic-style. While it is not on the beach, this spot is worth visiting. Colorful art. All ages would enjoy it here.
I genuinely love this place. The beer is good and priced right, the atmosphere is fun, the people are happy and friendly. I love the fish tacos and the guacamole and the salsa .... Just all around perfect. After dark there are some fun surf movies going on the big screen. Plenty of shade or sun for you, depending on which you prefer. If you are visiting Rockaway Beach, you owe it to yourself to check this place out. Conveniently located right next to the A/Shuttle if you need a ride back to the city when you are done!
Great atmosphere!! Awesome staff! Security is awesome!! Beers are cold and bartenders are fun and friendly. If you stop by, the tacos are without equal in taste and price! Note.... the line for the tacos can get very very very long. People love it and don't mind the wait for the food. Families and children are welcome as well!! The decor is simple, minimalistic and laid back. Remember.... it's a surf joint!! Enjoy!!😉
fantastic spot to eat after the beach. The fish tacos and the elote were spectacular- very filling. The elote had the perfect crunch and was full of flavor. The fish taco transported me to another plane- a transformative experience. Most importantly, Catherine, the hostess, was very kind and joyful.
Small menu to keep it simple, but have enough choices to taste the authentic food of the Mexican cuisine. Great priced and good service. You can have it to stay or to go. Parking is not the best though.
Rockaway Beach Surf Club is a fun spot that is definitely worth checking out. It is a slight hike from the beach, but once you get there it is a great setup, especially if you are with a large group. The vibe leans young and laid-back, and it is conveniently close to the train, which makes it easy to get to even if you are coming in just for the day. The food hits the spot after a beach afternoon. The corn was really good, and so were the chips and guac. The taco selection is more limited, so it might not be ideal for picky eaters, but overall it is solid for casual eats. Between the energy, the crowd, and the space, it is the kind of place that makes the beach day feel complete.
I had date night with my husband Yesterday Evening, it’s was a cool vibe we enjoyed the outdoor patio dining area, everyone was enjoying the great weather and it was great to see my old friends again and also to enjoy the fresh fish tacos with the homemade guacamole yummy. They also had a indoor and outdoor flea market going on it was A great vibe and the vendors were so nice and friendly they offered vegan pastries and treats they were absolutely delicious. Thank you Rockaway Beach Surf Club For All The Great Experiences In This Hidden Gem centered on Beach 87st. Btw. Please Please bring back .50 Wing’s again they were a great addition to your menu!!!!
Great little hidden germ… Tacos are amazing ( fish and chorizo my favorite) guacamole fresh and chips made in house… Only Cash at the Bar! You order over Instagram which I found kinda interesting… Everything was clean and enough space to let your childs run around. Prices are more than fair… we would come back and recommend this place to everyone. Thanks for the great Hospitality and lunch
I had a great time at this place on a Friday afternoon! Definitely a hidden gem. Tacoway Beach tacos are right next door/attached! The chorizo tacos were great! They have two drafts: Hanalei Island IPA ($7-awesome) and Mahou ($6-Madrid crisp beer, like Stella). Friendly surfer dude bartenders. Did the right thing when some chick asked for a lid to her margarita for her Vespa ride. Ha!! Great place.
i'm not a foodie, and i'm not a nuanced taster. the food is really good (made better by it's cheapness), but i would put it on par with any other "non-fast-food-like" place that serves "good food". i don't see going nuts over it. i think a big draw here is that you knock a buck or two off prices you'd find in the city or other trendy spots in brooklyn. (and they're a block from the beach - so its a nice quick break from sun and surf)
Of all the places I thought i would surf, new york wasn't one of them. But surprisingly Rockaway is great little surf spot and a great little community around it. Support by this bar, great tacos, very cool beach vibe, you could be forgiven for forgetting you are in new work
Decent spot not too far from the beach. Rockaway taco is there now and they're fantastic. Problem is between the drinking crowd and the taco crowd there's no room to do anything
It's good. Everyone gets along with everyone the atmosphere is nice and as long as everyone gets along with everyone it's it's a nice place to go to when you come off the beach there's not just one type of person there's all types of people as long as you came there in peace.
Awesome fish tacos. The best I've ever had and it's so cheap! Great coconut water, served right in the coconut. Full bar and bicycle rack out front. Just a few blocks from the beach.
Really cool beach vibes, and the fish tacos are some of the best I’ve had. Gets a little busy though could use some more seating inside in my opinion, but great if you can grab a seat!
Really enjoyed this spot - good food, great elotes, very nice guac, black beans were very flavorful. Wish there were more meat options, but enjoyed everything and vibe was very chill. Great beach just a few blocks away. Clean and relaxed. I loved it.
Totally worth the ride to get here. three buses later, i found myself eating an amazing fish taco topped with fresh guacamole on the beach. since that moment in 2010, summer for me does not begin until i take a trip to rockaway beach. Definitely make sure to order the plantain chips with a side of guacamole.
Great tacos and Tex Mex bites, with a Rockaway spin. The lines can get a little long in the hot sun, so tackle them in teams to balance your orders and find seats at this hangout. Skip the "quesadillas" which are tacos with cheese, and a mix of fish and chorizo tacos will keep you going after a fun day at the beach.
The tacos were really good just a little confusing of a system to where if you ordered the plate of 3 tacos you had to pick it up in a separate area right next to the DJ so while you were waiting for your tacos you had to stand next to the speaker. The backyard area was so much fun and open seating which can make it hard for groups. Their pina colada was the perfect after beach drink
Really cool spot with great food but the last two times I've been there it was so crowded you could barely move and had to wait 30 minutes to order. Go at off times. Amazing fish tacos and margaritas.
Had the fish tacos, elote, and pineapple mint drink, everything was fine/good. You can order online when you arrive. Taco order was ready when they texted the order was complete. Elote and drink on the other hand they make it when you come up to the window and you end up waiting if there is a line there.
The food is worth the long line. Trust me. The food served is not authentic Mexican food by any means, but they serve some bomb ass Tofu and fish tacos. I was there this afternoon and there wasn't a line. But when I went two weeks ago on a Saturday the line was insane. I would wait on it to get some tacos, though. They don't get 5 stars because the guacamole was terrible, bland, no flavor at all.
They use iPads as their POS yet are cash only. Staff is very rude as well. If you crave a cash only frat party with a 30 plus min wait to order food then this is your place.
It would be great if the curly haired manager / owner would learn to be more respectful when he drinks. I’ve heard too many stories.
Many of people like this place and I think it's ok. I had the tacos and they were good but nothing to write home about. It's a great place to stop after the beach for a beer or a frozen and a taco, and in that regard it's perfect. Good summer fun.
The ambiance is cool, the tacos were alright, but the menu is limited (no chicken? shrimp?). And the guacamole was so bland.
Small, dirty place. Tried all four tacos - absolutely nothing special, even not tasty. Small portions and no place to sit.
The fish tacos are amazing but the 2 hour wait for your food is not. Limited seating so you end up eating standing up. Bathroom line is horrible too. They need to expand their space.
This place is DRAMATICALLY different. This was my favorite spot in rockaway, I came here tens of times. I literally got married here.. I came here today and oh lord it is not even close the same. The prices are INSANELY high…. 11 dollars for chips and guacamole? No more plantain chips???? What a massive bummer. The music used to be awesome, this used to be a rock n roll spot. Now it’s Hispanic music all day and not a single rock n roll song. Sadly will not be returning to a spot I treasured since they were in their old location. 10 dollars for 2 tacos is crazy. What happened to this place? Sigh.
We came Thursday night. Although not much was going on, and there were very few clients, the staff was quite dismissing. Food and drinks absolutely forgettable (do not take guacamole and chips, it is tasteless), and they dont take the credit card. No vibes here.
If waiting in line under the sun for your food for 40 minutes is your idea of fun, then this spot got you covered. Not only will you wait that long, but you will also stress out about where to sit, since the place is usually jam-packed, and there are no places to sit. Whenever someone leaves, everyone rushes to try and save the spot for themselves so they could find it when their food is finally ready, 35 minutes later. And if you thought that wasn't enough, this place is cash-only, and yes there is a fee and a line for the ATM as well. The kitchen is very inefficient: it uses a made-to-order strategy that is debatable since they constantly have a long line of people waiting. I am always amazed at how many people flock to this spot, despite it having terrible service. This business has figured that it could cut down on costs of having waiters, a kitchen chef, and using credit cards, and opted instead to outsource the cost and burden to the customer. And I don't blame them: when you have so many people swarming the place, it sounds like the right thing to do.
Went there to take a couple pictures and have a beer and tacos after a day at the beach. The two owners almost assaulted us, maybe high, obviously under the influence of alcohol. (We were a group of three ladies in there twenties and one man) Insults, aggressive behavior, they kicked us out, acting as if they were going to hit the girls because of two pictures. Didn't even try to talk with us, disregarded our multiple apologies (for whatever we did wrong?). Worst experience ever had in the whole New York city area... Shame these people could bring such a bad image to surfers/skaters and to this neighborhood. Wouldn't go back there even if I were paid.
This is a horrible place the owner is very nasty and doesn't know who his real patrons are. Paying customers are not treated very nice. The owner is two faced and does not respect the customers. The bartenders are nasty as well. I would never go to this place again. I have this place 1 star because it was the only way I could post a review. This place stinks.
I don't get it. I have heard good things about this place from several people. I biked out there last weekend and had two tacos, one was carne (beef) and the other was chorizo. Now, I lived in southern California for 5 years, I know how good Mexican street tacos can be. These tried to be like that--they really looked the part. But the beef taco was totally bland. I'm talking ultra boring. It tasted like the beef had not been seasoned at all. The chorizo taco was marginally better, it at least had some flavor, but it was still on the bland side. Maybe this was an off day? Maybe the new guy forgot to season the food? I don't know, but I was very surprised. I'll give it another chance the next time I'm out there, and if it's better, I'll update my review.
