Opinions de Basurero Astoria
I was pleasantly surprised!! The food here is AMAZING!!! This is one place you don't want to pass up!!! Great date night, girls' night or just a night out!!! I loved the food and will go again very soon...
This restaurant has been around for a long time, the music was good and the service was fast, size of dishes are big, drinks are not the best but are decent. Price is reasonable and this to me is a must go Colombian restaurant. Decoration if eye catching, bathrooms are clean. Definitely coming back for their shrimp dish.
I love this place, I’ve been coming here for 12 years and it never disappoints. The food/drinks/service are always consistently great and I have to say Wilmer is the man to come to as he makes you feel at home every time.
Very strong drinks, the food is okay with good options. The service is generally pleasant and easy going. They were very accommodating to us (party of 20). The meat was perfectly cooked and the sauces were all very tasteful. The bathrooms downstairs are in desperate need of an upgrade.
The food and the service are amazing. The atmosphere is great, and thanks to Wilmar we had a great lunch experience. Highly recommended.
This place is downstairs my house, I have been there a couple of times, nothing incredible. But today I met Rossi, I immediately changed my mind. Thank you Rossi for showing me the best Colombian drinks and of course the Churrasco de Pollo, the perfect dish after the gym. Grazie 🫶🏻
Love this place. Great drinks, great food and great service. Great atmosphere as well. It's been my go-to since like 2016. Always have to come back a few times per year, mandatory.
Wilmar was an incredible server as well as the rest of the staff, the food and drinks were phenomal we will definitely be coming back here
Never disappointed when eating here. The food is amazing, the atmosphere is great, service is A1. The food takes it's time but for the quality the wait is worth it. I wish they gave tables small complimentary appetizers, something to snack on while you wait. Aside from that. I won't stop coming here all the way from the bx.
Súper delicious Please open in Minneapolis Minnesota We don’t have any good Colombian restaurant in here Thanks Diego Urgiles
The vibe here was awesome! Basurero (in English translates to junk yard) really captures a charming and fun/stimulating environment with many signs and trinkets all over. The food was phenomenal and super fresh, as well as the drinks which had a very summery/refreshing touch. Will be coming back!
If you are looking for very authentic Colombian food and atmosphere, this is definitely the place to go. From the decor to the food, you are immersed in the vibrant and welcoming culture Colombia offers. For the locals it reminds us of home. Not to mention the excepcional service provided by our server Wilmar, very friendly and efficient, making sure we were comfortable and pleased with our experience. Overall 10/10 would recommend!!
“Authentic Colombian flavors and amazing service! This restaurant is a hidden gem in Queens. From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere was warm and inviting. The empanadas were perfectly crispy, the bandeja paisa was generous and flavorful, and the fresh juices were a perfect complement to the meal. The staff was incredibly friendly and attentive, making us feel right at home. If you’re looking for delicious, authentic Colombian food, this is the place to go. Highly recommend!”
I’ve been here a few times everything was good but the service this time was horrible. The guy that was taking care of table was paying more attention to some girls at the bar. Then the job that he was supposed to be doing even the other workers was telling him to take care of his table we finish our appetizers and the place and everything was there for a long time until our main play came and the dirty play were still there. We have to actually call him to get our orders. that’s not the service that I usually get like I said I usually go there frequently.
The food was good and generous, service was attentive and yes it can get very busy as the atmosphere is cool specially for watching football matches! The negative reviews might be discouraging but definitely worth to try. The place offers a cool Colombian vibe and sharing platters to enjoy with friends and family.
The food was great, fresh and the taste 😋 100% Colombian food. The service and the team really nice guys. They always near to us The place was clean , and the drinks were super cool, the bill was expensive , but helllooooo we are in NY , in NY all is expensive , really recommend! I'll be back soon
I had such a great time here with my girlfriend on a Friday night. There was a bit of a wait - only because they wanted to prepare a table for us by the front window. Mariachis were in the back area on a stage singing and playing their instruments and we longed to be seated there but it was alright. We still had the music. The food was incredible. I ordered something like "Chicken sautéed Mexican style" and wow it was amazing. Since it was Halloween time they had a lot of decorations up. The usual decor though was nice. From what I was told, a "Basurero" is a dump - so you see lots of old junk on the walls that actually makes the place pretty interesting to look at. This is going to be a weird thing to say but the men and women that worked here were surprisingly good looking and well mannered to boot. The place seems good for groups, dates, and even coming alone as it seemed like the bar area had some patrons that looked like they were having a great time. I always had the impression that this was just a sports bar but I was wrong. Later, more mariachis played and went around the tables to serenade people. It was fantastic. I love that this spot is in the middle of Astoria. My only gripe is that if you go later on at night there will definitely be a wait. There was a small group waiting to be seated- standing nearby nearly the entire time my girlfriend and I ate. I almost felt bad like I should finish my food quickly so they could sit. Anyway, I wish I had checked El Basurero sooner. I'll definitely go back again!
Enjoyed the atmosphere. The drinks are strong and air conditioning is cold. The food was well seasomed, the rice portions was a little small for the amount of meat that was served.
Been here couple of time. I love steak I’m a steak guy. The time I’ve been here I’ve ordered different steaks but all lack flavor. In the other hand it is nice and juicy. My wife loves this place. All the times we’ve been here she has ordered the cow tongue dish. She’s obsessed. Drinks are good as well. Chinola con leche hits the spot and the place Itself it very interesting. Hence the name “el basurero”You’ll find yourself admiring the place and looking for another random abject every minute
Authentic, Authentic, Authentic Colombian food. Absolutely delicious with an enormous amount of options available, including Colombian sodas and jugo (juice). The only drawback was the service, nothing horrendous, just impatient and curt which wasn't necessary. Also can be a turn-off for those who aren't familiar with the culture. This place hosts big parties for birthday celebrations and when the Colombian National team is playing. Overall, and excellent restaurant with great food.
The place overall is good. The food was good. However, the place didn't have the heat on and it was the coldest day in NY ❄️🥶.
Food 8 out of 10, atmosphere and service was great, the drinks were too strong they need to watch how they pour a cocktail shouldn't taste like a straight shot
Pretty nice restaurant with a great portion. My food was delicious & my friends also enjoyed their plates. Overall, great atmosphere, food, and a clean spot. I'm giving it 4/5 because the banging when announcing a customer’s birthday can be quite intrusive and too loud. I still loved my time there. I would definitely go there again. 🫶🏾
Used to be a great spot all around! But after the Pandemic its lost its shine! Food is mediocre now, and the service? I only saw my Waiter once to be seated and to hand me the bill! We were served by someone else! Check your bill before paying for automatically added gratuity!!! They do not tell you!!!
Too loud to have a conversation the food quality was not that great, the drinks were ok and service you have to keep asking the waiter until he brings whatever you ask for. And the worse they charge the tips as service and all the way on the bottom of the bill they ask for "tips" Like they deserve double tip
Very loud music that. The server was not pleasant or welcoming by any means. The mini empanadas are truly tiny, not worth the price. The food was decent, nothing amazing. There are far better options for colombian food
The staff is absolutely lovely, and the ambiance is lively, but I just don’t see why anyone would eat here. The shrimp empanada had exactly one piece of shrimp, and the steak skewers were perfectly cooked but didn’t seem to have any seasoning at all. I would absolutely come back with the expectations of a sports bar, just to have a drink and watch a game, but please if you’re looking for Colombian food go to any of the numerous other Colombian restaurants nearby
The restaurant is decorated very nicely and had good music playing throughout my dinner, very good ambience. However, the food was subpar. I got the bandeja tipica wit grilled steak and the steak was a bit dry and lacked flavor, the chicharrón also had zero taste which shocked me. The waitress was not good with checking in on us. My friend finished her drink and it took 3 attempts to get the waitress to come over in order to ask for another drink. Service was not good, they were not attentive at all.
I cannot complain about the food. Every is delicious I just have one complaint it’s about the temperature how the hell there is not A/C on nyc summer. I went there last week when was the copa America game, the place was crowded without A/C was like being in an oven.
Considerable drop in quality, it feels like someone has taken over the restaurant and changed everything, the only thing that remains is the name.
After singing for a few hours with the squad, we were all hungry and decided to hit this place called Basurero. From the outside, it looks like a small bar, but once you go through the doors, the inside is open, spacious and frankly huge. The space kind of feels like it could be in the middle of Colombia and it would look and feel the same. Except for the weather, I felt like I was on vacation. It’s that kind of a vibe. We had a fairly large group and they accommodated us fairly quickly. It seems as though they are accustomed to dealing with large parties because they handled taking and delivering our orders fairly smoothly. The food was pretty delicious and we got to try a wide variety of items from each others plates. I believe there was a bit of a complication with the bill that was sorted out, but I sensed that it left a bad taste in some of my friend’s mouths. I’m not sure of all the details, but it appears as though they were trying to take advantage of one of our more inebriated companions in regards to the bill. My main dish was this bistec al caballo. Steak with eggs and it comes with two sides. This was delicious and a huge serving. I took some home as leftovers. I also had some calamari, virgin pina colada, and a sampling of sides from my friends. The food is top notch. All that bill drama aside, I think this was a good restaurant and enjoyed the meal there. I can see myself returning in the future, after all, I don’t drink alcohol so I'll never get taken advantage of. LOL.
"The food was very good, but the service was terrible. Our waiter was very rude and unfriendly. I brought my friends from North Carolina who were visiting New York for the first time and trying Colombian food for the first time, but this person made me look bad. He was very unkind and acted as if asking for anything was a bother. When I tried to ask for a manager's assistance, somebody at the bar told me the manager wasn't there and that they would let them know. I’m leaving my review here because I know the other employees will just cover for each other. It’s a very poor service experience. To make matters worse, they include a mandatory tip, and it’s a shame to know that money goes to someone who works that way."
I think the place is good for Appetizers and drinks. Ordered the Entraña bandeja paisa, no flavor at all. The guacamole with chicharrón and tostones were good as was the mini empanadas. Service lacks a lot maybe because the gratuity is included already so I guess they don’t put as much effort in customer service. Ordered arepas and they forgot to put the order in the kitchen as well. I will go back but like I mentioned good place for appetizers and drinks.
The plate w/ different kinds of sausage & stuff was delicious, couldn’t stop eating the red sausage! The guacamole was very good. The beans were different but they were good! The steak w/ fries was also good in my opinion, my husband didn’t really like the steak though. Place was playing very cool latin music & there was people dancing. Place was big & looked clean.
The services was very slow we needed to ask for utensils a few times and to get the server attention was very difficult and the food not tasty at all. I don’t recommend it.
Seems they didn’t put any afford to get a better name than “The Garbage” Seriously.....I mean I don’t wanna eat in a place calling like that, but nevertheless even the name could doesn’t matter to me I feel the seats aren’t comfortable at all no space and I saw disappointment faces waiting for their food or eating their food when I cross by.
We came here to celebrate my niceness birthday on 12/10/22.. The appetizers were good, however, my entrée was not. I order the Basurero steak which had about a 2inch piece of fat around the whole steak. I wish they would have trimmed the steak. Unfortunately I did not take a before photo only an after one. That’s all fat in the photos.
Came here for my nephews birthday. A little worth it for the look of the place. What I didn’t like was the food and service (in a way) much. I ordered the tostones with guacamole as well as pico de Gallo. The pico was great but the guacamole was tasteless. Two of us ordered salads. When they brought them to us we asked for dressings and we’re immediately told there weren’t any….! So we asked for anything else if the sort and the person asked like what so I said vinegar, olive oil, or balsamic vinegar. He brought the olive oil and vinegar. Later another worker came by and asked if we didn’t want any dressings. I didn’t understand. The other worker said there weren’t any and I was halfway through my salad. Anyway I got for my cousin because she was eating a dry salad. Everyone else seemed to enjoy their food so that was good. I left pretty hangry. Oh and I was charged for more than I agreed to on my bill. Thanks! Ps. They took off the indigenous women getting peed in/on in the male bathroom so that’s a step up…
If I can give a negative star I’ll give 5 of them. Service bad. The waitress were not friendly at all. They need to get another job if they don’t like what they do. Food was not good at all . I’ve been to other Colombian restaurants and this one is the worst ! First time there and last time. my family will ever visit this place again. 0 starts
We went to for lunch a party of four and we requested to be seated at a table which the manager in charge refused because it was only one server working and we just asked why when the restaurant was empty and they responded they were expecting to be busy We felt very uncomfortable and unwelcome And decided to leave. It used-to be my favorite colombian restaurant definitely not any more Your manager needs to be trained on customer service
I went out with some friends to celebrate my boyfriend’s birthday , we were looking to trying this place since I always pass by and I always see a great environment. But honestly I wish I could’ve been somewhere else . While the atmosphere was pleasant, the food was lackluster, particularly the meat, which was tough. The service ? Forget it about we just saw the waitress a couple times, everything time that she came to us it was with actitud. She was inattentive and seemed uninterested in providing good service. I was disappointed with my experience First and last time for me in this place.
The service was horrible, it took close to 10 minutes to even get our table water, with no attendance inbetween serving the food and paying (note that the restaurant was almost empty). YET what was most egregious was when the server took our card, and gave himself his own tip without asking any of us. Tipping himself close to %20 for practically no service. Our $60 bill went close to $80 just through tax, credit card fees, and yes, said unauthorized tip. Said servers name is Jeison Paloma. If you are severed by a man in his late 30’s with a greying beard, make sure you pay IN CASH, before he takes your card to give himself a bonus.
Horrible experience with the service. Our service was abysmal, not only that but our server (His name is JEISON PALOMA on our receipt, 30’s graying beard) tipped himself after taking our credit card without asking (CLOSE TO %20 WITH NO SERVICE)!! It took our bill for 2 people to an amount for 3! If you eat here, DO NOT TAKE YOUR EYES OFF YOUR CREDIT CARD WHEN PAYING!
We went to this restaurant today and the truth was that we found it unpleasant, noisy and not very quiet environment and the food was very ugly, we ordered some empanadas and they were tasteless and literally frozen inside, the rice without salt, burnt and the meat very greasy. In the end when we asked for the bill they wanted to force us to pay a "Free" tip definitely terrible experience.
Rude hostess, yesterday!! We had to wait really long for a table with not many people in the restaurant! They had sticky menus and the waiter looked at us a A few times, but kept skipping us as well a strange smell, so we just left.
They should cancel the food services and just sell drinks. I remembered when they opened back in 2009, The food was amazing and were more for family oriented. Now the place is more hang out to find men or girls. They have physical menus for drinks and not for food, for food you have to scan the QR Code.. It’s like they get upset with you if you don’t want to order drinks and only food. The waitress are not attentive to the tables. They rushed you to order and then they never go back to check if your food was well cooked.. They served me a burned chicharrón , it’s like they used one from the day before and put it in the microwave, it was like a rock, but when you go and tell them , they answer you as; that it’s how it’s been served to everybody. The beans and the beef were tasteless, fried green plantains were hard and dry and a dark color looking. Well good thing is that Astoria has some Many places to eat, but it’s a shame that our own hispanic community isn’t been scam by another hispanic person.Example; You go to a Greek restaurant or cafe and you can tell the difference, you pay same price but the food And the services not a comparison to el Basurero.
I just want to clarify, the food was really good BUT THE SERVICE was very poor. We ran into a small problem. One of my friends cut his arm with a staple and when we call the manager, her answer was there were fixing the whole place since morning for people to watch the game that was going to be played later that night. My problem is the arrogance the staff work with there. It was a simple mistake and they were trying to blame it on us.
Our bartender was very kind, drinks were good, and we had a great time. However, we had a big group and multiple of us were overcharged on our bills (for example, someone ordered a cocktail that was double charged and added to 2 separate checks). I didn't dispute this at the time in the restaurant because I figured it was ordered by someone in my party. Once I realized it wasn't, I called the restaurant to inquire about the extra charge. The person who answered was quite rude -- they hung up on me the first time. I called back and explained the situation again, they said they could not adjust the bill without the manager present. When I asked when the manager would arrive, they simply said the manager won't come in and hung up. Double check your bill!
I waited a long time to try this place and it was a complete disappointment - fist off the prices are really expensive and the cuisine is basic. The food takes an eternity to come out, the waiter don’t really check on you. I ended up throwing my left overs away which is unlike me because I don’t waste food! You can find better Colombian spots near by, don’t let the decor suck you in.
awful food, good service. Would not come here again, would be 0 stars if service was bad. Seasoning was off, chef might be from Olive Garden or something but the steak tasted like herbs and frijoles tasted straight out of a can, burn tostones. 0 quality in food and preparation, was starving and could not finish it.
Food is ok but no heating in winter? Freeze to death while waiting for service but 20% gratuity added in bill.
The worst service I have received ever!! The truly made honor to their name- Basurero. Came in, did not even bother to sit us down. No menus, they’re digital now, and asked me to go on google to look at pics, when we did, and asked for that item, they said the pics were old and they had different items on the menu. I asked the waiter to explain some items to me in the menu and he left me taking to myself. Very Hostile environment and was treated in a condescending manner.
Not authentic Colombia food, no service and added a 20% tip on a two top, lowest level of service and care.
(If I could give zero stars, I would) I’m extremely disappointed. The food was horrible. The beans had suds in them, the rice was hard and had no flavor, and the calamari was overcooked. Even the sauce was watery and bland. Everything tasted rushed and poorly prepared. I will not be ordering from here again. Not worth the money !
Paying almost $40 for a free tip service when you have to wait 15 to 30 minutes to call the waitress and be served, and then she just comes to the table, puts napkins on your table, and doesn't even ask if you're ready? I don't think they deserve to steal your money for a service they don't provide. DEMAND GOOD SERVICE FOR WHAT YOU ARE BEING CHARGED

Basurero in Astoria: Dive into Fresh Ceviche and Potent Cocktails
I’ve been hearing a buzz about Basurero in Astoria, a spot that brings a vibrant slice of Latin America to our neighborhood. It’s got that lively energy perfect for a night out, whether you’re looking for a full meal or just some fantastic bites and a good drink.Let's talk food first, because there are some real standouts here. If you’ve never had Ecuadorean ceviche, Basurero is where you absolutely need to start. I heard someone rave about how “super fresh” and “slightly sweet” it was, calli...
