Excellent lunch. When my plate arrived. I said, I will need a box. My fajita burrito was yummy.
Another amazing birthday celebration breaking bread with family. The Ceviche was delicious along with the chips, Salsa and cheesy bean dip.
My wife and I tried this restaurant on a whim. And we were absolutely blown away. The food was amazing. The service was absolutely amazing and it was a better experience than I've had in any 5 star Michelin rated restaurant. Actually, I would say it's better because the food was equally as good, but the service was better. They went above and beyond to make sure that we enjoyed our meal and our visit. The atmosphere was awesome with authentic mexican decor. They have a full bar and very comforting atmosphere.
Jose was awesome. Great costumer service . Can't wait to come back
The food, staff, and atmosphere was absolutely amazing. Very fast service and attentive service and food was great.
Loved this place. Went with a group of friends after a weekend trip and not only did it hit the spot but the service was 👏top notch 👏The staff was welcoming, consistently checked in on us, and refilled the chips and salsa without us even asking. We came on a Sunday when there was a brunch buffet and got a full tour in case that was what we wanted. Large portions (enough for two meals). I got the birria tacos - amazin. Can't wait to go back when I'm in the area.
I used to go to the restaurant frequently, but my very best friends moved away and I started doing takeout and it’s amazing. What an incredible job they do even on takeout…!!!
As usual, everything was top notch. Husband & I took his parents to dinner to celebrate his mom's bday. She was craving the chicken mole for 2 weeks. The younger guy who brought our plates out was impressive in his annunciation when calling out each dish (spanish isn't his native tongue, so the fact he didn't shy away from trying was awesome). He was a good sport. Our food was the perfect temp, and the food didn't disappoint. I also ordered the mole (honestly, only reason I go... not that the rest of their menu isn't also great). Our server was also impressive. He overheard my mentioning mother-in-laws bday, so by the end, he had gathered staff to sing happy bday w/a small candle lit, ice cream filled churro. All in all, we enjoyed another visit to our favorite Mexican restaurant. Thanks guys for never missing the mark.
Maybe the best Mexican food north of phoenix. Huge portions and many flavors or authentic Mexican traditions. Hold on to your belt buckle cause these portions are huge.
I love El tapatio it is my favorite place to eat. The family are amazing people and the atmosphere is incredible no matter what restaurant you goto I have never had a bad experience. From one's in Oregon to citrus heights and now Auburn Ivan the manager is a nice young man. Mario, Joseph, Alex and the rest of the staff are so friendly the really make you feel welcomed.
Had the vegetarian enchiladas. Outstanding! Would highly recommend and will definitely be coming back for more in the future. Excellent fast service. Great salsa and chips, as well.
First time here and boy was it delicious! We ordered the fajitas for two. We both have big appetites and we’re taking home as much food as we ate! So delicious! We will be back and thank you Rudy.🙂
Great food! Fun atmosphere! Clean! Strongly advise .
Best margaritas in town happy hour price is the best and the same size as the reg price one, the food is awesome also
We just got into town and decided to head over to El Tapatio for dinner. Turns out it was Taco Tuesday! $2.50 per taco plus all the toppings! The food was great! The service was great! We will definitely be back!
This is the first Mexican restaurant we saw the biggest largest buffet ever so much variety and the desserts were amazing too.
First time here, and I will definitely be back. The service was great. The atmosphere was great. The food was delicious and perfect temp. The tortilla soup had a little too much garlic, but other than that, I highly recommend you try this place out!
What a fantastic restaurant with great staff and even better food! The house made salsa was seriously the best, and the fresh guacamole was phenomenal. One of the best Mexican restaurants I've been to in a long, long time.
The chicken enchiladas with Spanish rice and refried beans were so delicious. This place was amazing, and the waitress was friendly and easy to communicate with. I'd definitely go back again next time.
Possibly the only authentic Mexican fare in the area. While food is perhaps adjusted for non Mexican palettes, it's still delicious and the portions are sizable. Love the atmosphere and the mariachi music too!
Hardly ever a wait time, service is very fast, staff is very friendly and food is excellent as usual.
Excellent and don’t forget their Sunday. Brunch is amazing.
The food was good. What i was expecting in regards to taste. Lots of tvs and many people there watching the NFL playoffs. We were celebrating a birthday and a large party. A few food delays but that's expected with a party of 15-20
Been here many times and this place never disappoints! Excellent food & service came here tonight for my daughter's 11th birthday dinner & she was very happy they went above & beyond. I was this business much success I am happy I can give them their 1,000th review 5 stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Very good great food and nice place to eat dine in as likewise
El Tapatio is located in Auburn, CA about 3 miles from Highway 80. As far as Mexican restaurants go, this is one of best in the area. I have tried or sampled about 1/2 dozen items on the dinner menu. They rank very high on my scale for chips and salsa because the chips taste delicious and they are not greasy. The chips come with refried beans and two types of salsa (mild, spicy). You will enjoy all the sides they provide The bar area has tons of TVs, perfect for sports fans. They offer an acceptable selection of beers and spirits. I have ordered Mojitos numerous times and have always enjoyed them. I am not a Margarita fan, but they are a favorite of the patrons (pay up for nicer ones)
Love the Mexican vibe. This place starts you off with chips and salsa, one of the best things about traditional Mexican. They even have a habanero sauce for those that like it spicy like me. Traditional Mexican dishes and flavors. The mocajete was bomb. Recommend sharing with another meat-eater. We got the combo and the shrimp and beef steak were both stellar. Chili verde super burrito was good, may have been better but the mocajete stole the show.
Everything here is delicious! It can get crazy busy here, so be patient! Also, a server here did upcharge me without telling me, charging an extra $12 in my check for getting a different carnitas (when I didn't) and ordering me a double margarita (when I ordered a regular) so watch your checks!
The menu is huge, the plate sizes are big. They are famous for the Molcajete bowls !!! If u like ur food temperature HOT, this meal stays hot until u leave !! Homemade tortillas ! Great chips & salsa. Sevice was outstanding even with it being new & extremely busy. This place is a must in Nevada County ! Extreme amounts of tile and traditional colors & murals !
Great service by Rudy! Our food arrived quickly and it was very good. We will definitely come again! This was our first visit since El Tapatio Mexican Restaurant opened. This was much anticipated because we enjoyed the previous occupant as well. The restaurant had a wait when we dropped in but we probably only waited 10 minutes to be seated. The restaurant itself has a nice open layout and is bright and welcoming. Probably a good place to have a large family or group meal such as a birthday party or other celebratory get together. We sat in one of the "patio" areas inside that has been nicely enclosed with tall and light inviting windows. Our waiter Rudy was very helpful in helping us to navigate the vast menu and drink offerings which included cocktails, wine and beer. We settled on a house margarita and a El Tapatio Margarita. I later enjoyed a Raspberry Gin Rickey cocktail. These were both good, nicely garnished and arrived at the table quickly. We both settled on different versions of enchiladas, the enchiladas mazatlan and the enchiladas suizas, that both arrived with generous portions of rice, beans and a side of tomalito. The dishes came out of the kitchen quickly. We tried both the red sauce and verde sauce which were both very good. Both of our dishes were delicious and we would definitely order them again. Overall our first trip to El Tapatio Mexican Restaurant was great and left us wanting to come back to try more of the specialty cocktails and other menu items. The restaurant has nice clean restrooms too. This location has lots of free parking and is handicap accessible. There is no "outdoor" area so it's not a good place to bring dogs. They still have a full bar area so you could also stop in for some appetizers and a drink.
My wife and I love to eat here just because we love shrimp and they have so many delicious shrimp and seafood dishes that are amazing. The seafood chili relleno is the best dish I've tried and my wife loves the fajitas. This is by far our favorite Mexican restaurant and we both highly recommend this to anyone looking for authentic Mexican cuisine.
My husband and I were in town for a mid-week getaway, and happened upon this restaurant’s name while searching for a place to eat for dinner. The reviews all mentioned terrific food and great service, so we decided to test it out for ourselves. We are so HAPPY we did!!! The place was fairly busy for a Wednesday evening, but we were still seated within a few minutes of coming through the doors. The decor of the place was very appealing, and the staff was absolutely fabulous…very attentive, friendly, and accommodating. There are a lot of options on the menu, and we had a hard time deciding on what to order. Ultimately, my husband decided on the Pina Loca, which was shrimp, pineapple, onions, peppers, squash, a cream sauce and queso blanco, served on a hot platter inside of a hollowed out pineapple half. It smelled incredible, and for a moment, I felt sad I hadn’t selected that, too. My husband was very delighted with his choice, and I tasted it, too, and it was delicious! I decided on the Chicken and Steak molcajete. It, too, was so incredible, and smelled like heaven when it arrived at the table. The heated mortar they served it in kept it hot through the whole time we were there. It had the most tender chicken and beef pieces, with grilled chiles, a roasted jalapeño, a green sauce that was to die for, beans, and queso on top. Throughout our meal, the staff checked in with us to see if we needed anything. Our server Brooke was so wonderful. The only thing bad about our meal was not being able to eat every bite! But then, that means I get to have leftovers for tomorrow. ☺️
We've been eyeing this place for quite some time, as they did a massive renovation. Now that you can finally eat inside, we finally were able to try it out. Y'all. You HAVE to go. The food was absolutely delicious. The renovations look beautiful inside, with bright colors, loads of ornate tile work, and hand painted murals on the walls. The bar is nice and big and it was spotlessly clean. The gentleman who helped us was Cruz and I highly recommend sitting in his section as well. He was extremely accommodating and a really nice guy all around. When we want Mexican food, we will only go here from now on. Well done 👏 thank you!
Finally a Mexican restaurant that knows what salt is! I was prepared for another typical bland meal like I get everywhere else. Not this time. My only complaint is the music was a little annoying. We'll definitely be back.
The service was excellent!! I will be back to try other dishes. Margarita's are really good!
Nice staff, food tastes good, and the portion size is big. The plate my food came on was probs about the size of a large pizza and what I ordered was on the appetizer section of the menu, so I can only imagine how big a dish would be if it was one of the dishes from the big boy platter section. I also like that they provide both salsa and beans to dip your food in.
We finally found a good Mexican restaurant after many disappointments. Great service, food and atmosphere.
Very good food. Staff is fast and courteous.
The food is good, but the BEST is the MOLCAJETE! We have had it twice now - first with steak and shrimp, then chicken and shrimp. It comes out in a bubbling bowl, in a gooey salsa verde with cactus, jalapeños beans and radish - the flavor is amazing! I just can’t say enough good things about this dish! Oh, and big enough to share if you end up getting unexpectedly full from the chips and salsa and beans that keep on coming!
This is our family's favorite restaurant! The food is always delicious and the service is always friendly. Fajitas are our favorites but everything is great. Highly recommend!
My 2 favorite dishes are their Taquitos from the appetizers.... it's enough for a hearty appetite. If I really want a treat, I order the Pin̈a Loca. There's enough for 2 with this choice. It's a half pineapple hollowed out then the pieces are mixed with peppers and squash and a huge helping of big shrimp! I have had these dishes at all 3 of their restaurants in the Sacramento area and I have yet to be disappointed...
This place is so good. We’ve been here a few times and it’s always fire. I usually get the Birria tacos BUT…this time I got the Molcajete with steak and chicken and let me tell you that steak is some of the best I’ve ever had. So much flavor in these dishes. The only thing I wish (of every Mexican restaurant) is that the yellow rice would be more authentic. But it’s still 5 stars in my book.
This is a very good and quite authentic Mexican restaurant off Hwy 49 in Auburn. The service at the bar was awesome and the food was delicious! A nice selection of craft brews and Margarita's as well. Our go to Mexican place now. Good job!
The chips and salsa was real good. I had the chimichanga. It was pretty good, I was disappointed it didn't come with sour cream, sales and guacamole. It was okay not what I expected. It came with refried beans and dry rice. There was 9 of us with one server. I think he was overwhelmed.
We found this excellent restaurant after buying a new car in Auburn and we’re very happy with authentic and very tasty Mexican food. Service was excellent, great vibe, even had a guy playing guitar that was incredibly talented on a Thursday night, even took home almost half for dinner tonight.
Great stop in Auburn! Had late lunch today..April 16th..see receipt. When you walk in you see a very vibrant and colorful restaurant! Large dining and bar area. We shared the steak fajitas that came with rice and beans along with sour cream and guacamole. They came out sizzling ( see video) and although the vegies and sides were great the meat was a bit tough. The manager, Ivan, saw we were not eating it and without us asking he brought back a steak that was tender and well seasoned (as it should be). Great flavor! It was Taco Tuesday and so my boyfriend got a carne asada taco for 2.50. It has a salsa bar dedicated to Taco Tuesdays with different salsas..marinated cucumbers (spicy) and cactus salad. Great way to bring in the patrons! They have a full bar and happy hour with drink and appetizer specials. Huge menu! When we left they were packed but they are well staffed! Fun atmosphere and a great place to bring friends. IVAN was super helpful and professional. ALEC was friendly and attentive. Great food...Great service....very popular! Definitely be back!
We had a lovely lunch at El Tapatio today. The chips and salsa were fantastic and come with a little extra dip dish of bean dip which was also delicious. The meals were huge and absolutely delicious. The service was fantastic we got sat really quick took our order in a very efficient manner and food was served hot and came in a timely manner. We really enjoyed the beautiful atmosphere. And our waiter was fantastic very attentive helpful and friendly. Highly recommend.
My wife and I were told to check out El Tapatio as they have good Mexican food, and the visit did not disappoint. The food was great, the service was excellent, and the staff positively friendly. Will definitely return and try something else on the extensive menu… and before I forget, the Margarita was fantastic.
Excellent Mexican restaurant to eat, amazing food and amazing service to say the least. Yes, some reviews and the location can be misleading, but after been here 6 times I can easily say it’s amazing. The food has been one of the best I have had in a while, even better than my last trip to Mexico this summer. The fajitas steak and chicken have become my favorite, the Margarita with extra sweetness rocks, and let’s not forget about the flan. A huge thanks to Carlos for making our last visit extremely pleasant.
I was let down...by so many others! This was the BEST MEXICAN I've had in Auburn so far!!! I had the steak burrito plate, and was going to order to go but the wonderful hostess (Hannah) talked me into staying and dining in. That carne was done perfectly! Juicy, charred, taste like it was done on an outdoor grill and tender!!! Def appreciate this stop on my busy work day, and enjoyed actual Mexican music and a very happy vibe dining in. Oh and it was super fast service...for everyone that came in.
GREAT PLACE!!!! The food taste amazing and The portion sizes are huge! Bang for your buck! And they bring out a ton of free chips and salsa and bean dip. It’s a great place for friends and family. The photos don’t do the food justice, it’s looks great and taste even better. I will be coming back here for sure!
Great food and the service was excellent. Huge variety of food to choose from. I couldn't figure out what a few of the items being served were. Some signs would be helpful.
Wherever Im in town, I make it a point to eat here at least 2 times. handmade corn and flour tortillas are absolutely delicious. I prefer the corn with my meal, and the spicy margaritas on the rocks are a must! Service is the best and some evenings there is entertainment in the bar/dining area. The last time we were there, we were entertained by a balloon 🎈 artist who entertained the children by making elaborate balloon creations for the children. Both my grandchildren were gifted a balloon creation of their choice. Great place for a great family meal.
This place is pretty good. I went just a bit early, so the staff were still setting up for the day. Otherwise, I may have given the service a 5. The food was excellent for an Americanish style mexican restaurant if you know what I mean. No complaints. The atmosphere was great also, only reason not a 5 was likely the time of day as I stated above.
Great food , pleasant atmosphere and so helpful staff. Our waitress really helped. If you're in Auburn and want Mexican food, stop by !
Excellent weekend all you can eat buffet, Mexican style. A bit pricey, but considering prices today, within reason. The food and atmosphere were good.
I've only been once during their Sunday brunch buffet. The food was delicious, but it was a bit expensive.
This Mexican restaurant has multiple locations. I found out while coming across it in Auburn, CA. It is on the more expensive side, but the portions are plentiful, and at this season in my life, I will make up another meal. It has an extensive menu selection that I look forward to sampling later.
They were very nice. We did a terrible job planning and our group ended up double the size we said when we first walked in. I felt terrible but they were very nice and accommodating. The restaurant was very busy which meant it was noisy but we were in a smaller room off to the side that was a bit quieter. All in all it was a great place and I'll definitely be going back again!
I'm not THAT hungry for a $20 plate in the afternoon but the $15 lunch is bomb and they answered my question: "Where can I get Happy Hour as early as 3pm?" They can. They offered us a small complimentary tequila shot/drinks so yes, they're cool. They handle customers well from observance and food was made quickly.
First time to this El Tapatio, and it was great. We usually visit the one in Citrus Heights. Same style building and interior. And definitely the same awesome service and good food. It's standard 'Mexican' faire so you know what to expect. Our host and server was Rudy. He was friendly and attentive throughout the meal. The place is loud and bustling, and the servers and 'other' help are in constant motion. Nothing to complain about for our visit here.
We usually order take out and the food is very good.
This place is very festive and colorful. In so far as the food, I grew up on Mexican food, I'm picky. We had finished hiking, wanted to have a sit down for dinner, and nothing fancy. This place fit the bill This isn't the best Mexican but it isn't the worst either. Service seemed rushed and busy, wasn't the best. Plenty of free parking with clean restrooms. If your looking for OK Mexican, know what your want, in festive atmosphere this is the place.
This was my first time at El Tapatio Mexican Restaurant. It was a Saturday at around 5:30pm.We were seated right away, and service during our meal was excellent. The atmosphere was nice, just a little loud. All the staff was extremely pleasant. Waiter was extremely nice and helpful.
The menu is huge, the amount of food is generous, the food is flavorful and the margaritas are strong. What more could you want from a Mexican restaurant? El Tapatio uses traditional family recipes from Cuautla, Jalisco Mexico and only use the freshest ingredients. They've even switched to healthier options without sacrificing the quality or taste. They do not use lard in their refried beans or any canned products. El Tapatio is famous for their molcajete. Which is served on a 510° lava rock. The enchilada nachos paired perfectly with the house margaritas. This would be a great date spot to share an appetizer and adult beverage. On select evenings, there is live music and dancing. The chili rellenos are huge and pretty tasty. The enchiladas are also yummy Mexican comfort food (I prefer their green over red sauce). I also enjoy the bean dip they serve with the chips! The atmosphere is fine, but nothing noteworthy (kind of busy and loud but colorful). All in all, it's solid family dining.
Waiter was not very good did not no the specials on menu my wife still enjoying her dish he wanted to take it he was pushy my wife loves the margaritas she had 2 also very big restaurant would definitely go back
First time here. The place is well decorated and pretty big for a local restaurant. We ordered the Molcajete with steak and chicken and their burrito Mazatlan with shrimp. They were both good. All burritos are smothered and thsi one has a yummy green sauce. The only thing I wasn't impressed with was the steak meat on the Molcajete, it didn't taste authentic to me. I loved their refried beans, melty cheese, jalapeños toreados, grilled chicken, salsa de molcajete, Mexican Coke, rice, hand made corn tortillas, basically everything else except the steak/carne asada. There is something about the flavor that was not authentic to me. We will come back for sure. Their menu has so many options to choose from. I recommend you try this place. They will also be having a DJ guest on Taco Tuesdays in April.
We love El Tapatio for casual date nights. The bartender Joseph is always attentive and friendly, he even remembers our drink orders when we haven't seen him in months (sorry, we really did miss you). The food is good portions and the prices are very fair. One of our favorite restaurants in Auburn.
I had the fajitas with added shrimp, and they were flavorful and satisfying. Everyone in our group had a great time and really enjoyed their meals. The atmosphere was welcoming, and the service was friendly. A solid spot for a good night out with friends or family. Would definitely return!
Took my dad to dinner here. I'm a huge fan of chips and salsa and let me first say this is the spot if you're a fan of that too. They brought out a huge basket of chips with bean dips and salsa. The chips were amazing chips and flavored just right. The salsa delicious too. I ordered the chorizo con juevos plate with fresh home made flour tortillas. The tortillas were amazing the plate was ok I wasn't a fan of their Mexican rice. My dad ordered a shrimp in some spicy mole sauce and it was very spicy. Kids menu plates ordered was a chicken enchilada with red sauce plate which has veggies in it so be sure to ask to remove if the kids aren't a fan of onions. And my other kid got the chicken tenders and fries. The horchata was pretty good they said. The service was good and they allowed my pet in the enclosed patio area. It was very clean and the atmosphere was pleasant. I wouldn't say it's a must try but it's a runner up if you're in the area wanting Mexican food.
The service was pretty good, although we waited at least 15 min to be greeted after sitting down, the waitress was apologetic and attentive afterward. The ambiance, music, and decor was beautiful. Unfortunately, the food was made with the cheapest ingredients you could find, like cheese that doesn't stretch and flavorless produce. The food was prepared and assembled well, but they need to take more pride in sourcing their ingredients. Even the "top shelf" margarita tasted cheap.
This place started as my husband's and my favorite mexican in the area, for dine-in. However after having a baby we've been doing to-go. Well tonight is the 2nd time they have given me Chile relleno (which I do not like at all) instead of Chile Verde. The last time we ordered out everything was correct, but they gave our order to a door dasher, so they had to make it again while we were there. They gave us a $20 gift card for the inconvenience, and tonight my husband was told the card had no balance, even though we had a receipt that came with the gift card 🙃 Also, our food was not hot tonight. The 3 stars are for our dine-in experiences but the -2 is for our continued disappointing to-go orders.
I used to love to come to this restaurant. Fun atmosphere, very upbeat feeling, kind of loud but fun. However, the service has really gone downhill the last three times that I've been there. Food is still okay. Walked into the bathroom, there was vomit all over the floor tissues everywhere. it was not clean. The service sucked. Took an extremely long time to get my food it was about 45 minutes for some chicken taquitos.
Steak Fajitas were very disappointing. Skimpy and careless. The kitchen obviously didn't put any care into my order. Ive been a long time frequent customer of citrus heights and this was nothing like what ive gotten from them.
Unfortunately our service was not great. I was unable to eat the ground beef taco. There was something off about the flavor and texture. I think they are adding something to stretch the beef. I gave it to my husband because he will eat anything. He could not do it either. He also felt that it just wasnt the flavor but the texture as well. I tried to email them but it was returned as non deliverable. I didn't want to call because don't like confrontation.
Service was great, tried a different dish, Carnitas Tostada... needs to be true Carnitas and not the stewed Carnitas/Cat Food they use in Burritos. That looks like no Carnitas I have ever had before..... Sadly I left a total 50.00 meal there on the table. All other items on menu have always and previously been amazing
My husband and myself have been to this location many times and have always been happy with the service ,and the food. Lunch today was the exception. Service was bad and the food was worse. My husband left 2/3 of his meal. I took most of mine home to doctor it up. I had fajitas. The chicke was over cooked on a plate of onions with a feebell peppers and 2 slices of squash. This was a usual spot for us but I think we will be dining elsewhere in Auburn.
Not good enough to justify the high prices. Ordered 4 tacos just steak and cheese only. Was givin street tacos on flour tortillas looks like the cook put lettuce on all of them then removed it. $30 for 4 tacos and a bottle coke complete rip off will never return.
The chips, salsa and bean dip were great. I ordered the steak burrito and when it came to the table it was huge and looked great but when I took the first bite of steak it was nothing but bristle. The same with every bite that had meat in it. The steak was almost all gristle and fat. It made the meal and evening very disappointing. I took the second half of my burrito home and just had it for lunch. The same gristle and fat. I have a little sause bowl sitting next to my plate just full of the unbeatable. That will be throne and only time I visit this resturant.
I’m not sure what’s changed in the kitchen over the past six months, but something has. We’ve placed large pickup orders for years, and the experience was great until recently. Last night’s order will definitely be our last. I placed a $230 order (including a $12 tip) online at 3:30, with a pickup time of 4:30, because I was with my 85-year-old grandmother and didn’t want her to wait long in the car. I arrived at 4:30 and was told the order would be ready in a few minutes, but I waited 20 minutes. It seemed the kitchen hadn’t started the order until I arrived, ignoring the scheduled pickup time. Additionally, we ordered $90 worth of blended margaritas for a Labor Day party, but they sat at the bar, melting into liquid and becoming nearly unusable. After waiting 20 minutes for the food and driving away, I received a call informing me that part of the order was missing and I needed to return to the restaurant. This wasn’t a one-off issue; my previous order also involved a long wait past the pickup time. Clearly, the kitchen is struggling to process orders on time. Given how effortlessly most restaurants handle online orders, I recommend avoiding this place at all costs.
