I'd give them 10 stars just for Trae, who took time to share some AMAZING advice on places to check out. The music vibe is fantastic and the avocado toast was delish but will have to check our Breakfast Quesadilla (recommended by Trae). Last, but certainly not least, check out the espresso martini was the best one here yet 🙌
First time, loved it. The coffee is excellent with great flavors and quality that really stand out. Service is top-tier, they're friendly, attentive, and consistent. The atmosphere is stylish and relaxed, making it a great spot to hang out, work, or unwind. Only issue was the amount of pride flags, but overall, its an easy place to come back to.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Halcyon — hands down the best coffee craft cocktails in town! Cozy vibes, killer espresso martinis, and a scene that always delivers. Can’t wait to come back for another round.
One of my favorite coffee spots downtown! I always had great experiences here and today was even more spectacular - I made an error in my order and the staff was so kind to correct it for me even though it was completely my fault. Highly recommend this place and the Thai Tea is THE BEST 😋
Had the Campfire S'mores coffee. Tasted as good as it looked, was a work of art! Has a matcha as well. It's my favorite place for food whenever I want the best coffee in Austin.
My sister and I used to come here for chocolate martinis back when we were grad students up at UT circa 2010-2012. I just visited Austin again and was so glad to be able to revisit Halcyon! Halycon remains one of my all-time favorite cafe/eatery/bars! 🧡💖🧡💖. Thanks for the “Partly Stormy,” and for the memories of a younger, more hopeful me. ✨ I drank alone on the patio and remembered how much I loved 4th Street, and my UT denim bucket hat successfully worked as a “Do Not Disturb” sign for everyone except a Canadian guy in town for a conference. And he just wanted to explain why he was taking pictures of a really cool looking bike in the bike rack right below my seat. It was, indeed, a pretty cool bike.
I had the greatest experience at this location! I stopped by mid day to do some studying and work and I was so well taken care of. Margaret specifically did an exceptional job making sure I was taken care of while I was doing my work. I will definitely visit again!
Went for the hot chocolate and was pleasantly delighted by everything from the staff to the atmosphere. Overall a great spot to stop by at if you’re looking for a chill spot with good music and good drinks/coffee
Beautiful bar. Our bartender, Kevan, mixed our drinks due to our preferences - he offered at the beginning that he can mix us basically everything and he really did - and they were really delicious. We had a wonderful evening!
Absolutely stunning, spectacular place with cocktails that go beyond the imagination in both taste and style! I love that the menu had a photo of each drink, it made it more appealing to order. The service was stellar! And we had the pleasure of trying the Chicken Pate and their Goat Cheese Cheesecake which was such a unique and delicious dessert. I wish we lived in Austin so that we can frequent this amazing bar which is set in an elegant ambiance.
Excellent and unique cocktails that are truly remarkable! A very large carrier for every taste. Great intimate atmosphere making it an ideal choice to relax and hang out. Can get a little busy at times so try to make a reservation. Even the light bites pair very well with the unique cocktails!
This is my type of bar, and the craft of bartending is what sets this one apart from others and making drinks from all eras is awesome. Had the black pearl cocktail where they smoke it in a box and at the end I just sat in peace with some smoky peated scotch drunk neat enjoying the atmosphere.
After being out shopping on a very hot day, we walked past this place and decided to call in for a refreshing drink. It is a very cool bar with a very large selection of cocktails, all of which are responsibly priced for Austin. Our bartender Tomàs made the visit definitely worth it. He is very knowledgeable and recommended some really good cocktails but also made the time to have a chat with us and explain a bit about the bar. We are only in Austin for 4 nights but will definitely call back to this place before we go.
Tucked away in the heart of downtown Austin, The Roosevelt Room doesn’t just raise the bar—it ages it in oak barrels, infuses it with smoke, sets it on fire, and serves it with a hand-chipped ice sphere and a knowing smirk. The place oozes class like a well-shaken Negroni oozes regret at 2 a.m.—but make no mistake, this isn’t your average mixology joint slinging overpriced syrup. This is cocktail alchemy at its most deliciously pretentious. And I say that with the utmost admiration. I sampled the Cigar Box, a mezcal old fashioned so smoky I half-expected to find my grandfather’s ghost sipping it in a leather chair. It was bold, brooding, and carried the emotional complexity of a divorced jazz musician. Next came the Silver Meadows—bright, herbaceous, and so delicately layered it felt like drinking poetry written by a drunk botanist. And then Aphrodite’s Ambrosia—a cocktail so sensual it should come with a safe word. Light floral notes flirted shamelessly with the spirit base in what can only be described as liquid foreplay. The spirits list reads like a love letter to the international liquor gods, and the bartenders? Part chemist, part therapist, part magician. You don’t order a drink here—you submit to an experience. Whether you’re popping in for an elevated nightcap or trying to impress someone with your knowledge of obscure amaros, The Roosevelt Room will exceed expectations—and probably convince you you’ve been drinking wrong your whole life. Rating: 5 out of 5 meticulously polished bar spoons. Would I go back? Absolutely. I already have a reservation—with destiny and a barrel-aged Boulevardier.
Upscale cocktails with a cool ambiance! If you like mixed drinks this is the place to go. They have a great mix of traditional cocktails and their own creations. It’s also very educational as the drinks are arranged by era from prohibition to today and ranked by boozy-ness! Lawerence was very friendly and patiently answered all of questions. Try the drink he created it - was sooooo good (it’s not listed on the website and I can’t remember the name)
A top-tier cocktail experience! The Roosevelt Room offers a classy yet comfortable atmosphere with expertly crafted drinks. 🍸 One of the best espresso martinis in town! 🍴 Great happy hour snacks—I haven’t made it for dinner yet, but I definitely will. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. A must-visit for cocktail lovers!
This is a great bar. Went twice. Ryan was the mixologist and I asked him to make me all sorts of obscure drinks with obscure ingredients. No problem. I love the ambience. Best grilled cheese sandwich I ever had. Definitely going back. They recommend reservations but the two times I went I didn't have a rezzy. First time had to wait 5 min. Second time they seated me immediately.
Cannot recommend enough. The host was glorious; very welcoming! We weren’t sure being weirdos from Indiana, but they seated us with Armando at the bar right away. (Seriously ask for him!) We ordered the Sazerac and the Chartreuse Swizzle. They were 10/10. Then in conversations with Armondo, we discovered AMAZING tequila and rum. He was extremely knowledgeable and also has great dad jokes. Super friendly. We also made a friend at the bar and it was super comfy. The olives were warm and flavorful and the chicken liver pate… to die for!! We had a great time and will be returning next time we’re in Austin! ❤️
I’m a fan of high quality craft cocktails, so I had been wanting to try Roosevelt Room for awhile. I walked in with my friend to try it out (no reservation) the wait was less than 10 minutes to be seated. Their menu is situated similar to other cocktail bars I’ve been to (not in Austin). The menu has the drinks listed in the different time periods of alcohol they’re from. I ordered the clover club, which was made very well. The taste was up to par, definitely recommend giving it a try. The milk pinch wasn’t really what I was expecting, it was very floral (as you can probably see by the picture). I wasn’t a big fan of this drink myself since that’s not the kind of taste I like, but it was built as a great cocktail-just not for me. Our server provided great service and had good knowledge of the menu and cocktails in general. It’s a very dark lighting space, looks good for an intimate date night. One thing I learned that I didn’t know is that they also serve food. The cocktails are ~$20 each, they do also offer an elevated version of each cocktail which uses more expensive liquors. Those cocktails are mostly $75 and up.
We loved the cocktails we tried here, including the Poets Muse, Vodkadora, and pain killer. The bartenders did an excellent job of balancing the ingredients, letting the flavors compliment each other while still being individually distinguishable. Dispute the bar's dark assumptions design and air of exclusivity, the staff were very friendly and helpful. We took advantage of their happy hour discounted prices on select cocktails. Parking on nearby streets is free on Sundays.

Nice big seating areas. Very tasty drinks and friendly service. Part of the austin staples to try at least once. Make sure to make a reservation on the weekends as it can get really packed

Halcyon is such a cute little spot—part coffee shop, part cocktail bar, and all-around great vibes. I didn’t get a chance to try the food, but the atmosphere alone makes it worth the visit. Cozy, stylish, and perfect for hanging out, working, or just enjoying the scene. And the espresso martinis? Amazing. Smooth, balanced, and honestly some of the best I’ve had. Whether you’re in the mood for caffeine, cocktails, or just a chill place to unwind, Halcyon hits the mark.
Stumbled into Sunday drag brunch with only 2 singles!!! What a bummer! We'll be back to make it rain. Great crowd, femcee and performers. Oh yeah drinks--good ones.
So this place has been here for ever I feel & it looks it. The place could use a little polishing up. It round take much to make this place shine. Super chill vibe, they have done games you can play with like domino's battleship and cards. They have a full bar with some Cafe bites. I ordered their long Island coffee drink that has a limit of two. The first tasted pretty good and strong the second one I don't think the person knew how to make it. It tasted like regular Iced coffee. A $10 Iced coffee 😏 Hubby ordered an old fashioned with brandy he said it was pretty good. He also ordered a sandwich with a bag of potato chips. They have cute little smores kit if you want to have an interactive kind of experience. I've been to their newer location and have to say it's cozier here but a little less polished if you don't mind that than make sure to stop in
Delicious Coffee. I loved the Matcha Latte. We went early morning on a Saturday. There were not many customers at the time. Service was quick. Mid-century modern decor. We ordered avacado toast and breakfast tacos. It was good. They serve cocktails too.
Decided to stop by while waiting for a table at the nearby Roosevelt Room and had a very relaxing time. The vibe inside is definitely coffee shop first, bar second, and overall fairly chill. The seating space inside was large and accommodating, and drink service was very fast. I particularly liked the wall of liquors behind the bar, with a respectable selection regardless of where you go, and very respectable when considering the coffee shop environment. I'd recommend stopping by!
Halcyon is one of those downtown spots that works for almost anything—coffee in the afternoon, a casual meet-up, or cocktails later at night. The vibe is laid-back but still feels “downtown,” with plenty of seating and a solid patio for people-watching on 4th Street. Drinks are well-made, and it’s nice having food options too (the tabletop s’mores are a fun add-on if you’re hanging with friends). It can get busy on weekends, but overall it’s a dependable, easy choice when you want a relaxed bar-lounge feel without the club chaos.
Outstanding prices for downtown, happy hour Sunday is the best prices for drinks I've seen in any area of Austin. Has outdoor seating. Bartenders could be a bit quicker. Maybe stop talking and focus on getting drinks out.. No line and having to stand and wait 11 min and 9min for a drink is not good.. Doesn't seem long when writing this but stand and watch someone talk about whatever for just a few mins will be frustrating, 10min seems like forever..
Dark and moody cocktail bar with an incredibly extensive menu. They have a section of their menu detailing cocktails throughout the ages— essentially a list of cocktails that were either created or popularized in different decades which was super cool. I enjoyed a unique take on an espresso martini. However I will note that it was disappointing that so many of their cocktails contain walnut liquor. I tried to order a different cocktail without this in it, but since it was pre-batched I was unable have it withheld. Docking a star for this because it should be easier to remove such a common allergen.
Rating: 4/5 [dine in] We were excited to try The Roosevelt Room since they've won so many awards, but honestly, it fell short of our expectations. The place is dimly lit and gives off Prohibition-era vibes, but makes it hard to see -- especially if you're trying to take photos or videos without using flash. Service was great. Our server shared some interesting background about the bar, which added a nice touch to the experience. There is a $1 per person charge for staff benefits though. Their menu is probably the biggest drink menu I've ever seen, and the presentation is impressive. However, when it comes down to taste, the cocktails just didn't live up to the hype and at these prices, it's hard to justify. Zombie ($32): Served in a skull with flaming cinnamon powder -- very theatrical -- which was cool for a second, but then our friends noticed the powder got all over their side of the table and even on their phones. The cocktail tasted good, but nothing special. It's lighter than the Blue Blazer and not very spirit-forward. The ice also melts quickly, so drink it fast or it'll just taste watered down. Blue Blazer ($32): Your choice of spirit with ginger snap syrup, hot water, bitters, lemon peel, and nutmeg. Honestly, it tasted like straight alcohol and medicine. Wouldn't recommend unless you're just trying to get hammered. Overall, The Roosevelt Room is worth visiting for the showmanship and service, but the cocktails didn't quite justify the price tag for us.

Still one of my fun bars downtown—great vibe and always a good time. That said, it could use a little extra attention: the patio fan hasn’t worked in a while, the inside could use a DEEP clean paired with a much needed AC filter change. With a bit more upkeep, this place could really shine again.
Let me start out with the good: the drinks were good. Our server was knowledgeable and gave solid direction. But it was insanely slow. We probably waited 20 to 30 minutes between sitting down and g…
Honestly, ordered the avocado toast, got guac (like actual mashed guac with pico de gallo & jalapeño bits) on soggy white toast and it took 20 mins to come out. $14 insane! Nothing is made fresh, the barista was unenthused and said everything is prepped night before so even though they have an egg burrito on the menu they can’t make eggs as a side.

I was shocked by the service, we come here often, but the staff absolutely ruined our experience. Don’t come if you’re visiting Austin.
The real bad experience one could have just by seeing the outer appearance, I am sure would never come back here, just got betrayed by the name as was looking for coffee. The wait was real long for just coffees, secondly as waiting for the coffees went to the washroom the washroom which is not clean could have the worst and the upbeat kitchen ever. Just wonder their food how would it look after seeing the pictures uploaded. Their coffee was just a a regular one didn’t even taste well. Would never come back again.
I’ve been coming to this coffee shop for since I moved to Austin, and it used to feel like my little safe space. The atmosphere was always warm and welcoming, thanks to the familiar faces behind the counter who made every visit feel personal. Unfortunately, it doesn’t feel the same anymore. With the old employees gone, the energy has shifted, and the aura that made this place so special is missing.
I have never been to a place with more rude employees than this one. I live nearby and wanted to like it. Just walked in there this morning and had the guy at the front just grumble at me "I'm busy. Not taking your order" without even looking up. This is the third time I've gotten some weird attitude after daring to step foot inside. Never again.
