$8 $9 $10 boxes. what else is Better than that in Avenue U?? Their Peking pork chop over rice is my fave. They’re now on Uber and seamless or door dash, but I like going in store to order since I live close by.
The best no frills chinese spot in Brooklyn Sheepshead Bay area located on Avenue U. I like a lot of their $8/$9/$10 specials. I usually ask the guy who cuts the meat up which is the best for the day. Their duck or roast pig over noodles or rice is my personal favorite. Their roast pig skin is soooo crispy. Their duck is super meaty and skin is super tasty. If you’re into bitter melon, get it with beef or fish. Super bitter but that’s what makes bitter melon good. The workers here make you feel so good. If you’re asian and understand the asian hospitality.. they call you pretty girl or handsome boy. HAHAHA way better than your own family gatherings. Don’t expect this place to be beautiful because it is literally a no frills local spot.
For me, having dined for many decades in many countries and cities, this restaurant was special. I found their roast and poached meats to be exquisite. I have had slightly better a few times for multiples price. My sister says the rice porridge is excellent, and although I haven't had much congee I agree. Also the watercress I had was top quality preparation and ingredient
Very old customer of many years. Consistency is the secret to their success. The food is delicious and stays so.service is good! Waiters speak English and can help you order. Prices are competitive with Avenue U. Seating is limited.small restaurant but big menu. Large portions of food. No tax and cash only. Take out also available. Order to go at the counter. Can be noisy when Chinese people start Conversing. This is the smallest restaurant for Chinese food around. But has the best food.
I've only taken good to go, but man, is it great. They get your orders correct, the food is still hot when you get home, and they're very attentive. This place is many steps above a mere take-out joint. The roasted meat that's sold by the pound is especially good! Be careful, it could become an addiction! Two big thumbs up!
I go to this place to order roast pork, duck, etc. all the time. This place is average, not the best and not the worst. I do recommend the salt and pepper pork chops (delicious). For some reason, I ordered over the phone for 1/2 pound roasted pork (half fat/half lean) but when I got home it was all lean. I was very disappointed and I knew it would be pointless to complain. Service is above average at the establishment.
I've been coming here since I was a kid and have had many great lunchtime memories with my family here. It was also our go to anytime my parents didn't feel like cooking. I remember always getting the fried fish with tofu over rice, which I haven't had in a while so I definitely need to come in again and try that. On this most recent visit, we ordered some stir-fried lobster (for takeout - from the looks of it, it doesn't look like they're currently doing indoor dining anyway) and it was served in a tray, as opposed to those white cardboard containers. It was perfectly stir fried with morsels of ground meat, egg, and of course black bean. I'm glad they're still around and that we have a consistently good Chinese restaurant to go to.
Their roast duck is skinny and doesn't have much meat. Other than that, the food is alright. However they for some reason, charge extra if you dine in. A meal that is 8 dollars for takeout is now 10 to 12 dollars when dining in. The lack of transparency is annoying and unethical.
Came here with a party of five and the restaurant was empty. However, we were turned away because the kitchen was apparently too busy with takeout... If you're thinking of coming here, pray the kitchen is staffed I guess.
They gave me old chicken wings which were hard and inedible. The fried rice was oily. First and last time I will order from here. I do not recommend $15 for garbage
Used to order from them. Used to be fantastic food. Spent $23 on the duck. Could not even open the container because the bag smelled so bad and then I open the container and the duck is from 6 days ago, rotten like a pigeon from avenue. Extremely disappointed
Prob the worst Chinese restaurant that sells overpriced congee. I wouldn’t be so mad if it was cheap, but for 7.50$ a congee that has no ingredients in it, not worth. I ordered two thousand year egg with pork congee. When I took my congee out of the bag it looked like plain congee. Literally less than 5 pieces of pork and very small bits of preserved egg. Didn’t realize the ingredients were that expensive to give so little. Also they are so cheap that the congee tasted like nothing!! Usually restaurants would load their food up with MSG, but this place did not put MSG nor salt. The saddest congee ever. Never had something so bland. I ordered plentiful of congee in my lifetime and never seen a place SO CHEAP. Not to mention for some reason my congee smelled like salty fish, like what?? Very unappetizing…never ever again
the worst food ever , I don’t even know what this place sells but this is not cook food is more like a poultry shop. I went in to ask for some fried chicken to have for dinner and when I got home and open up the container the whole chicken was raw, I try to take a bite from a piece and it was so hard and the taste of raw meet was horrible, hard to shew .waited for the next day to call , So I called and asked for a refund. Since it was a long commute from brooklyn to north jersey . So I called them and trying to explain the situation the lady hang up on me the first time and called a second time and asked to speak to a manger or the owner and they say it wasn’t there so they transfer me with a guy and xplained what was the situation so I asked for the money back and that I wanted to get the same chicken but well done and he wasn't sure giving back both so after some argument he finally said that he’ll be given the money and the chicken the 2 days after so when I get to the place and I greeted and trying explaining why I was there she started to scream and the look in her face said it all .shes the cashier lady was so mean and rood and disrespectful not to mention the rest of the crew they were mad screaming and cursing in their language like crazy . So i had to ask for my money back and they weren’t nice same amount of chicken but cook , but for some reason they ended up giving a much worse raw chicken as it shows in the picture I added. So had to take that raw chicken again and my money back cause I came all the way from Jersey and just wasted more money on transit but such a horrible experience with people so unprofessional and no manners they were all screaming all over the place from the youngest to the oldest . And that lady cashier should go and find something else to do cause she has no talent to be in the front she needs a husband desperately cause she was so mad when it was their fault. So people I will definitely not recommend this place in the entire planet . WORST PLACE EVER! EVER! Zero start if was an option.
I've been a long-term customer and the quality used to be pretty good but recently it has declined. Tonight it was just horrendous. The fried shrimp and salt and pepper pork tasted like it was deep fried in old oil. The caramelized walnuts were dry. The cha siew was overcooked, dry and hard. I am just thoroughly annoyed that we paid $60 for 3 subpar dishes that will be going into the garbage. I refuse to return now knowing that the quality of food will probably never be what it used to be.
Please do not go here. The food is horrible and they will give you the worst quality meat. I order pork and chicken over rice, and the pork they gave me was from the poor leftover scraps. The meat was dry, hard and all fat. If you want to eat pork over rice, there are definitely way better restaurants with good price on Ave U. I don't understand how they looked at it and thought it was okay to sell this. I will never come back given how they treat their customers like this.
I ordered from here recently and I was extremely disappointed. I ordered three different items and asked for the rice to be on the side for all 3. They instead gave me 1 container of rice for the all 3 orders. One of orders was broccoli with brown sauce and it tasted bland, like it was water mixed with a little soy sauce. Not what the usual brown sauce looks or taste like. I also ordered general tso’s chicken. They were as long as a chicken strip and just wasn’t what it should be. Unfortunately I ended up throwing away my whole order which was $49. There prices have definitely increased, like every where else but I do think this was a bit much. I’m not sure what happened to this restaurant it I remember ordering some years ago and it was pretty good.
Horrible, the most disgusting Chinese food I have ever gotten. To start off they got the order fully wrong and it tasted horrible. The chicken and broccoli looked and tasted like it was just white meat boiled and broccoli on it. The pork fried rice tasted nothing like it was supposed to and tasted worse. Save your money and go to any other spot it can't be worse than this one.
