My boyfriend and I went here as a celebration for his job promotion and let me tell you, I will definitely return. The moment you walk in the atmosphere shifts, it's a wonderful ambiance, the service is very pleasant. We had a reservation and was taken back early. To start we had lemonade and iced green tea. The lemonade tasted hand squeezed and so fresh. The iced green tea was so refreshing and even though it's unsweetened, you could finish the whole glass without a care! For apps we selected a few to try, the gyoza, tempura avocado, cucumber salad, and some miso soup. 3 of those were a 10/10. The gyoza did not even need a sauce it was wonderful, the cucumber salad was marinated in a beautiful sauce, the miso soup was so flavorful. The only item I rated lower was the avocado tempura, purely for the fact it comes paired with a creamy sauce, personally I used the gyoza ponzu sauce for it and it was much better! For sushi items we got the Salmon Lover, Seared Salmon, and Red Dragon. All rolls were delicious, seared salmon was our favorite and red dragon was our least. But we would still consume them all again. The rolls are pricey at $26 per roll, however, you get a HUGE piece of fish laid atop the rice and real crab in every piece. Just on the size alone it's worth it. For dessert we had sesame balls, fresh and so so tasty! My boyfriend also got the pork katsu donburi togo for his lunch and that was amazing even the next day!

A goto for locals. A hidden gem for passionate lovers of sushi. We arrived at 6pm and shown to our table. We started with Sapporo beers with tori karaage, and gyoza. I had the tonkotsu ramen. The cabbage and corn stood out as the main flavors. Next was a baked dish with lots of cheese. Next were the rolls, zen and totoro both excellent, rich with complex flavors.

Japanese cuisine your heart desires, trust me. The atmosphere was cozy and welcoming with fresh aquatic aroma. Sushi bar seating offers a first glance of the sushi chefs who artistically and gracefully create each order. SUBI waitresses are efficient, kind and provide the VIP experience. I highly recommend!

One of my favorite lunch and happy hour spots. Spicy poke is great. Love the Miso soup, and the very good octopus salad.

Overall I like their sushi. Not really any other option except the lovely ladies at TC who also make a pretty passable spicey tuna. Service was fast, I love sitting at the bar!

The atmosphere was classy and comfortable. The food was incredible and the service was great. We had a blast. I would recommend the sake.

My self and my three friends ate here last night for dinner. We got all manner of sushi rolls and sashimi, miso soup, and edamame. It was a bit on the pricey side but well worth it. I had the Medusa Roll and it was extremely tasty. I also had some of the miso soup and edamame, both of which were very good.

Great service and delicious food. Super fresh salmon and some of the best tempura vegetables I’ve had, especially the squash. Ginger salad dressing was amazing too.

Oh yeah! Have family that lived in Hawai’i back in the 60’s and said this reminds them of the amazing Japanese restaurants in Oahu. Got the Bento Box, Sukiyaki, and California Roll and everything was delicious! $$ means pricey, so don’t expect to walk out spending less than $20/person. But it’s REALLY good. Super nice staff! And make sure to say “arigato” and bow.

This was an incredible experience. We made reservations for lunch to get the dine in experience and it was worth every penny and second. Thank you for the yummy food and making our children feel so special. We will return!

Check out the sushi bar, you can see the chefs preparing everything, and the ingredients! Each of the rolls I've tried have been fresh and great - the bento boxes are an excellent dinner option. They have several choices for Sake too, pretty interesting.

I picked up takeout for lunch recently, and it was excellent! Not only were the delicious rolls far better than most other sushi places in the area, but their takeout procedure is efficient and safe. I will be back!

This place was very very nice! The food was great and well placed on the place and very nicely decorated as well. We did have to waite for 30 minutes to get in and eat but it was a friday night. We took our seats in a booth with one lantern-stiled lamp in the middle that gave a very nice atmosphere to our dinner. The staff was very kind interactive with our group of 6 and the also offered us some plates "on the house". I had a great time and I defenetly will visit again.

Sushi was very good. Udon was also worth ordering. Entrees come with salad and miso soup (except soup entrees). Plenty of food for a decent price. Sushi bar is fun to sit at, very interesting to see the chefs make the orders.

Always a favorite stop on my visits to Bainbridge Island. We've been going to Subi for special family occasions since it opened years ago. The sushi is always fresh and Bountiful and the service is terrific. A lovely atmosphere for date night or special family occasions, and the movie theater is right next door and it's walking distance to Winslow way.

Just stopped by this place for happy hour based on a recommendation. The food was absolutely top-notch, and the service was good. Definitely coming again next time I'm visiting Bainbridge Island.

Food was absolutely delicious and the staff were fabulous. The only downside is it is really expensive. Not the best gluten-free selection, but okay if you are non-celiac. Bathroom is outside of the restaurant, in an adjacent hall in the mall. Layout is pretty crowded, but a wheelchair probably could get through uncomfortably. Main entrance and bathroom are pretty accessible except for a lack of door buttons. Ramp down to bathroom hall might not quite be up to ADA standards but it's okay.

My personal favorite restaurant on the island. All of the staff are super friendly, I always get the tempura shrimp bowl and Totoro rolls. It can be a bit pricey but the food is 100% worth it

We go here almost every Saturday for their lunch time happy hour with 1/2 price rolls and deep discounts on their menu. Additionally, this is a locally owned family run place where you are well cared for and the food is top notch! Helen and her husband hire local kids and help out the community in myriad of ways. Locals and tourists should make this a regular place to visit. The restaurant in located just a short walk from downtown Winslow so if you take the ferry (btw LEAVE YOUR CAR IN SEATTLE) walk on up the hill and enjoy a great meal. They also have a regular menu which includes everything you could want at a Japanese restaurant

A good size Japanese restaurant with plenty of seatings inside. Due to COVID restriction, it's take out only at the moment. The restaurant does not have outdoor seating as it's in the strip mall building complex but the complex itself has outdoor garden where you could eat your sushi if you don't want to eat it inside your car. Plenty of choices in the menu, my avocado and eel roll was good size and yummy. Plenty of parking available and it's a few blocks from most of the shops and a couple of miles from the ferry dock.

Delicious and wonderful! Normally when we sit at the sushi bar we'll order from the chef, but here everything goes through the waitress. This takes some time to then get, but it was very good, and yes I'm picky. Enjoy.

Oh no Subi, y’all did me dirty tonight. Slipped me some gratis shrooms in my garden roll. Bummer I don’t like mushrooms. Noting to request no mushrooms on future orders (even though they aren’t listed in the roll). Pros: Avocado roll was solid. Order was ready 15 minutes early. We have a sushi restaurant on the island!

This is my first visit on Bainbridge Island. I found this place on Google map. Currently, SuBI only opens for lunch. We had butter geoduck yaki, tonkutsu ramen, and chirashi. The egg in ramen was not the hot spring egg (liquid yolk), which we were a little disappointed. But the geoduck within chirashi was fresh and sweet. I really like it! All staff were very friendly. I would recommend this restaurant if you like Japanese food. 😊

Wonderful lunch food! The bento box was tasty and had a variety of mini dishes in it. Server wasn't incredibly attentive, but nice.

Subi has some great specialty rolls. I highly recommend the Dragon or the Volcano roll. They also have great options for those who don't care for seafood. Their sake selection is also great.

Decent sushi on Bainbridge Island. Fish smelled and tasted fresh. I would recommend 👍

A lot of 4-5 star ratings but really curious as to why. This place isn’t truly a “Japanese” restaurant with many Korean items on the menu. That’s usually an immediate indicator it’s not “Japanese!” Also, the head sushi chef wasn’t trained IAW traditional Japanese acceptable sushi standards, not to mention a few “amateurs” behind making nigiri and makis. The sushi was definitely not fresh and all the raw fish was room temperature - a bit concerning. They do have a few more variety of sushi so that’s a plus but the medium and full fatty toro was way below standards and hard to eat. For the two of us, it cost 190$ - not the most expensive but more then we would usually pay for subpar sushi. The customer service was FANTASTIC and definitely was the best part. We tried it because of the 4+ rating …. I have to honestly say, they get this rating as most Americans have little clue what “good and great sushi” is! Worst part, the quality of rice was of low grade. 3 stars and likely will never return!

We were back with good memories obviously the food is quite good, mood is also warm & cozy. But the thing is server’s attitude. Looks like she keep watching to get a chance to take away plates, even trying to clean up in the middle of eating. It was so unpleasant, as we took last bites, brought the bill on the table even not asking. We were much excited visit favorite place but finally ended up disappointment.

Had not been in for quite sometime due to Covid. Looked forward to their miso soup and was very disappointed. It doesn’t taste the same! It had a fishy taste, probably bonito flakes. Wondering if there has been a change in chefs? The sushi was still amazing. New items are Korean. Is this why there has been a change?

Tendai Gadzikwa

The fish dishes appear to be pretty good, but I wouldn't recommend the ramen. It was all a lot more "done" than I would have preferred. The egg was hard boiled, and the pork extremely tough. The server indicated that this is normal because of the way the meat is cooked, but it seems a waste of pork belly to cook it to dryness. I didn't enjoy it at all.

Good food, but too many mistakes on takeout orders. Seriously, 7 out of the last 10 orders have been wrong. Tonight, the rolls were not what we ordered, my seaweed salad was missing, and there was no soy sauce. They do not check the orders, so I guess I need to before I leave. Sushi is decent, sometimes great, but too inconsistent. Wish there was another sushi place on the Island!

I moved here from San Francisco last year. In their review they said “the best Japanese restaurant on Bainbridge Island”. It’s the ONLY Japanese restaurant on Bainbridge. The sashimi was warm (yuck) and the O Toro, which cost $24 for two pieces, was inedible because of several inedible membranes through it. I literally had to pull them out with my fingers because they were too tough to chew. The spicy tuna was mashed to a paste in the spicy tuna roll. I mentioned San Francisco because this restaurant would go out of business there with all the awesome Japanese restaurants to chose from. I can only assume the five star reviews were people who don’t know any better or didn’t order the sushi. To add insult to injury, the woman behind the sushi bar was incredibly rude and disrespectful. To the person who raved about the “fresh” salmon, it was previously frozen. Raw salmon needs to be previously frozen to kill the worms — don’t believe me? Google it. I will recommend the house saki.

This is the only sushi place on Bainbridge so they can basically do what they want. They used to have a good gluten free menu but changed the vinegar the used in the rice to something cheaper that isn't gluten free so nothing is celiac safe anymore. They have limited open hours. You usually have to book in advance by at least a day. One time I showed to see if they had seats at the bar and they were very rude when I said I didn't have a reservation. The place is also overpriced. It gets 2 stars because the atmosphere is nice and they have a good drink selection.

After 5 years of excellent experience, I have experienced a delay in pickup during my last 4 orders. Today I decided to show up 15 minutes late, then still waited another 15 minutes. The WORST typical customer service excuse was told to me by the owner: "oh we just noticed one roll was missing." I did call him on it. 3 orders went out after mine....15 minutes to make one roll..my order arrived......yah ok....I still left 15%.....not next time. Until in-house is restored....I am not able to recommend this establishment.

Service was fair, food was way overpriced, and I actually had canned corn in my soup. Sushi was just so so. Much better choices, Recommend Hakata.

I was going to give three stars but decided on two given that I spent $60 for a meal worth maybe $30. I came hoping and expecting to be impressed. I left feeling disrespected and that my time and money had been wasted. I say am an empty sushi bar and waited over 30 minutes for my food. The cuts off Nigiri I eventually recorded were small and the Atlantic salmon belly I ordered came an regular Atlantic salmon which was almost flavorless. The roll I ordered had a pittance of salmon inside and was worth maybe $12 of the $22 it cost. They brought the wrong beer. The sushi chef behind the counter never interacted with me and seemed cold and hostile. I noticed multiple groups that ordered after me get their food before me and they got large, beautiful creations while I got a stale near flavorless pittance. Admittedly I’m a tattooed veteran so maybe I was unwelcome for that. The whole experience left me remembering how cliquish and unwelcoming Bainbridge has always felt to me. I won’t be recommending or returning

You really need to work on customer service. I walked in for take out (first time ever ordering from your restaurant) and stood there for AT LEAST 3 minutes before someone finally acknowledged me. She seemed inconvenienced that I was there. She took my order and she told me they'd message me when my order was done. I sat out in the lobby area of the building and about 15 minutes later the woman who took my order walked past me and said "oh yeah, your oder is ready. " as she went to the bathroom. I mean, come on! I felt like I was an inconvenience from the time I stepped into the place. The sushi was okay but I wouldn't ever go back with that type of service.

I’m a former chef with Hitchcock and Witnessed Unsafe food handling practices and storage of raw fish when I went to pickup my order thirty minutes over when I was supposed to be notified my food was ready. I was told by the owner rudely that it was my fault I didn’t come when he estimated my food would be ready even though I never received any form of notification it was ready, he then tried to lie to me and say that the messaging caller ID was broken even though others had been notified and were also picking up orders and he was still getting calls which clearly showed the caller ID was definitely active. Given the difference in treatment with them vs how I was treated it’s hard not to feel like this came from a racially based bias and I think I’m done getting food here until practices and standards for treatment of different colored customers is addressed and met.

We were really excited from the reviews, but oh man, what a disappointment. We got tonkotsu ramen and shoyu ramen, and they were identical. The egg was completely hard boiled, and the “tonkotsu” was pure, unadulterated FAT. I think they found some pieces that were supposed to end up in pink slime and saved them to serve. Super gross. Plus the topping was really strange. Sautéed cabbage was majority. I don’t get it.

Foods great but there was almost ZERO soup in my Togo soup….. under 1/3 of the way full. What a shame!

K
Kayleigh Robichaux

Came here for sushi and teriyaki chicken because the reviews sounded good. Ordered a chicken entree and two rolls for $88. "Teriyaki" chicken didn't taste like anything, and when we were asked if we wanted to order anything else, we were still waiting on one roll at 55 minutes being seated. Told the owner lady that the teriyaki didn't taste like anything and we weren't sure if sauce was missing, and she was quite rude and essentially told us that's how it is done there - "its no different for you from anyone else, its the same as we always do". Then, we mentioned that we had been waiting on a roll and wanted to check on it, and she brought it to us and told us good thing we have time to eat now. It was very uncomfortable and we just wanted to give feedback but were unable. And then... the roll we finally got was baked in a bowl (was more of a poke bowl than an actual roll), slightly cold, and everything tasted... fishy... Sad waste of money.
