I saw lots of review with this restaurant, so we decided to pay a visit. The place is really nice and everyone treated us so kindly. Me and my husband ordered the special for the day ( pork chop) the mashed potatoes and the cornbread and veggies taste amazing, but the pork chop for me is a little oily. Don’t get me wrong, it’s still good but not how I expected it. But other than that, we still have a good time. It’s always good to experience old restaurant…started its operation since 1912 and the second oldest restaurant in Texas, it’s something to be proud off. Overall, I will still come back to this place
Great breakfast. Country fried steak was hearty, fried well, and great with the gravy. The east over eggs were also great. My favorite was the has browns. I was delighted they mixed in sauteed onions. Yummy!!!
Fresh, tasty homemade food! Great salad bar. The apple pie was out of this world - be sure to order when they have it. And our server, Jessica, was delightful. I look forward to our next visit.
Very nice mood, delicious food, and good service Went for breakfast and had the egg enchiladas. Perfect portion and really tasty
We live in Tennessee and come each year to San Antonio for the rodeo. The OST is always on the agenda when visiting. Best breakfast in Texas. Try the Migas!
We are from California and traveling. We have eaten in a lot of places. This has to be the best breakfast I have had ever. And it even tasted homemade. Other restaurants say home cooked, homemade etc. but this one literally tasted homemade. The biscuits were to die for, the gravy was fantastic, the pork chop was wonderful. I can't say enough for this place
If you've never been to this place you are missing out. This has been a favorite of my wife's family in the area for years. We went again while visiting from Denver over the holidays last year. The food was great and I was impressed at the history and great atmosphere. Check it out and while you are there visit the Texas Salt Company down the street.
The Duke chicken fried steak was huge and messy, which means it was great! Prices are very affordable. Esther was checking in on us constantly and refilled our waters and coffee stealthy. Didn't even have to ask! Will definitely be back soon
This was recommended to us by the nearby resort we stayed at and it did not disappoint! Good home made family style food, both locals and tourists filled the restaurant. And ask to be seated in the John Wayne room, which is filled with photos of his career.
Starting off OTS is in the cute sweet town of Bandera, TX right off of main street. Where there was all kinds of shopping to be had. The staff was kind, attentive and very respectful. You know that you hit a gold mine when even on a Sunday morning the place is hopping. Now the food. Oh the food! The menu options seem endless. So it was very hard for me to choose. In the end I ordered the Ranch house hamburger steak with grilled veggies, mashed potatoes, and texas toast. My mouth is watering as I am typing this out. I had a bite of my husband's chicken fried steak and wow 👌 I had to ask for another. Let's just say that I chose right. I have nothing bad at all to say about O.T.S. It's a must try in my book.
This place is great! Its an old western type place and it is awesome! I usually get the bunkhouse breakfast which I would highly recommend and it was great! You get eggs, ham, and a pancake, and hashbrowns and is super good! The service is great and if your traveling for sure stop by and try it! Really good and service is great! They also have pretty good hot chocolate if I'm not mistaken! 5 stars.
This place was AMAZING! I had the chicken fried steak, beef veggie soup, baked potato, and a biscuit. My mother had the patties melt with onion rings, and I finished it off my meal with blueberry buttermilk pie. CFS was a 10/10! Best I've ever had! Super crunchy crust and even though I order a small i have half of everything to take home for lunch tomorrow. Pattie melt was fabulous with just thr perfect amount of grilled onions on a toasted Rye bread! Onion rings were to die for! Crunchy and flavorful! Not over cooked and not burnt. They were perfect. I'd definitely recommend this place. Soup was not salty as I expected it to be. You can tell it was homemade and the pie is downright mouthwatering. Ive never had blueberry buttermilk pie but I love blueberries and I love buttermilk. So, this pie is a perfect combo for me. Excellent job OST!
The ambiance of this establishment was truly exceptional, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. Despite visiting on a busy day, the wait time was only about 10 minutes, which was quite impressive. The staff was not only attentive and friendly but also carried themselves with a delightful charm. As for the food, it was absolutely outstanding—flavorful, well-prepared, and served in generous portions. This was a fantastic dining experience, and I will certainly return the next time I'm in the area.
Brought my kids out to Bandera for a little road trip. We stopped for an early dinner at OST and walked away extremely impressed. The atmosphere itself defines Bandera, it's incredibly welcoming. The service was phenomenal, every employee was friendly. Candy was out waitress and she never let our drinks get empty and she made an effort to actually pay attention to my kids when they ordered. She was very attentive taking our order and letting us know how things worked. Our food came out in a normal amount of time and myself and all my kids were extremely happy with our orders. My boys got the catfish and enjoyed it. My daughter got the club sandwich and she liked it enough to ask if we could come back again soon. I got the medium chicken fried steak and it was still huge. The batter was crispy and the steak was decently thick. The gravy was good but could've been seasoned a bit better, definitely needed more salt and pepper. My kids has desert, the blackberry cobbler and chocolate pie and they loved them. Overall a great experience and one of the best places to visit in Bandera. I can't recommend it enough.
Awesome Texas food and vibe! Cooking was perfect! Loved the John Wayne room. Chicken Fried Steak was tender and crispy... hashbrowns were crunchy and amazing... pancakes were aromatic, flavorful, fluffy, and huge! They were very busy, and we had a party of 18... they managed to get us in quickly and had friendly service. We can't wait to return.

Cowboy town rules. Service and atmosphere: This restaurant was established 104 years ago! It's the iconic spot in the most American cowboy town in the Great State of Texas. This restaurant is also famous for John Wayne memorabilia. The service was fast and very friendly. Food and drinks: Good selection of comfort foods with a touch of good old home cooking. I opted for steak that was cut in the restaurant. I ordered it medium rare but it was more on medium side. It was very tender and very well seasoned so I enjoyed it the way I had it served. Chicken Fried Chicken dish was equally good. Homely cooking with good flavours. Pricing: $/$$ - definitely worth it and I recommend you try this place when you are in town.
This is your typical down home diner with pies! Customer service is a cut above, food is what you would expect, nothing special but cooked and prepared well. Clean diner atmosphere with a solid western feel. Better coffee than most diners.
Ordered at the restaurant, and they deluded next door to the Ice Hause. E ordered the fish combo and tornado fries. Neither were remarkable. The fish was slightly undercooked. Seasoning was too soft for my palette. The service and friendliness of the staff was a step in the right direction. I will say the restaurant was full of patrons, so at least the locals find the meals to their liking. The iceHause next door was intimate. Great setting for a date. We watched Mister Bob Stewart perform live and enjoyed every minute.
We had lunch there. My daughter took chicken stripes which was okay. My fried shrimp was not amazing but the french fries are good. Husband took the Supreme burritos, he said it's good. I know this is a historical restaurant, the 2nd oldest in Texas, but for me nothing was extraordinary. The cowgirl's toilet was quite dirty and the only friendly person was our server.

Went to ost for the pie. Am a coconut pie fanatic and was telling our son how good it was. He had lemon and the wife and i each had coconut. The pie was so stiff nobody could finish their pie. Filling was terrible and meringue was stiff. Pie quality has went down from previous winters. Will not order again. Service was excellent

Food was just not great. Fries were soggy and undercooked. I wanted to get them the small blue pill. The chicken was pounded so thin it should be called fried chicken fried instead of chicken fried chicken.
