Opinions de Shalizaar Belmont
Both the food and service at this place was fantastic. We went on a Friday evening and we were sat within the first five minutes. The servers immediately bought some amazing tasting breads cheese and salad to the table. We were warmly greeted our orders were taken on time and were delivered within the next 10 minutes. The server kept checking on us refilling our water and bringing us whatever we wanted. Overall it was a great experience and the food tasted great.
The restaurant is awesome. Great food. Such a warm atmosphere. They make bread themselves in ovens! Go here if you want traditional persian food to heal your soul. They have a shop outside as well.
Shalizaar was excellent. The food quality and taste were very good, and the service was attentive and warm. You can tell they take pride in how they serve their guests. Overall, a wonderful dining experience.
Great Persian food! The kebab is amazing!
We went here when we were visiting friends almost a decade ago, and we were thrilled to see it’s still in business after moving here. The food and service is still as wonderful as it was years ago. I particularly recommend the Shirin Polo, and save room for the iced desserts. The various kebabs were great too and the Doogh is very authentic.
Excellent koubideh and grilled meats! Moist and well made. Service is very professional and on point.
I've been coming to Shalizaar from back when their were in their old location. Every time I come here, the service, food, and ambiance blow me away. You are greeted and treated as if you're in someone's home. The kebabs have always been mouth watering even when you order takeout. They accommodate large parties with ease and do everything they can to make sure you are happy. If you haven't tried Persian cuisine, Shalizaar is one of the best places in the Bay!
Shalizaar is a hidden gem that offers a culinary journey through Persian flavors. The dishes were fresh, vibrant, and absolutely delicious — a true feast for the senses. The service was impeccable, making the whole experience feel warm and welcoming. A special shoutout to Navit, who went above and beyond to ensure our meal was perfect. Can’t wait to return for more!
The food was absolutely delicious and of excellent quality. We had several types of kebab along with shallot yogurt and ash reshteh. The fresh herbs, walnuts, cheese, and warm bread were fantastic. The restaurant had a very friendly, clean, comfortable, and beautiful atmosphere. I strongly recommend this restaurant — it’s one of the best Persian restaurants I’ve been to.
I strongly recommend this place if you are looking for a good authentic Persian food. This place was the first restaurant in Bay Area that served Persian rice 👌🏻 not a basmati rice! The Kababs were perfectly prepared and cooked, tea was so good.
We visit here a lot and their Khoreshts like Ghormeh Sabzi & Gheymeh is our favorite along Kabab Koobideh. We always try different appetizers & everything is just super yummy & tastes like home cooking. We enjoy the atmosphere & their wine selection, as well as having the option to get a to-go especially when we have guests at home.
This place was excellent! Never had Persian cuisine before but was always wanting to taste ground beef kabobs. This was a recommendation from the nicest Toyota salesman at Toyota 101 in Redwood City. These were the tastiest I’ve had so far. I live in Salinas about an hour south of Belmont and let me tell you, it’s well WORTH the drive.
Came here yesterday for lunch (friends recommended). The place is awesome: the food is great, a lot of light inside, all windows and doors are open creating the nice breeze. They bring complementary lavash and a box with fresh herbs, feta, walnuts and a radish (something I have never seen in a restaurant before). Parking lot outside. Highly recommend this place!
Usually I visit a place and appreciate the food but rarely feel like I have to come in on superb service. But my server who had a really cool name (don’t remember SO sorry!) was is the bomb.com. We spoke in Spanish and loved how he was a cultural ambassador between Latin food and the Persian food. I told him how obsessed I am with Fesenjan and he said that’s because it’s a lot like a Mexican mole. Lightbulb moment! And then the little appetizer with cheese, walnuts and mint/ basil/cilantro… He told me to make little taquitos out of them! Hahaha. Super enjoyed the food and had plenty for leftovers for the next day. Incredible all around!
Best Persian food, in California! I recommend this place! Must try. It's 5 stars across the board!
I had an amazing experience at this restaurant! The food was delicious, with standout dishes. Service was top-notch - our server was attentive and friendly. The ambiance was cozy and perfect for any occasions. Highly recommend for anyone. If you are looking for great food and service!
Absolute top notch food and service over the many years we have been customers!
Lovely dining experience. Appetizers were amazing and the Lamb Kabob was perfectly cooked. We dined at 5pm on a Wednesday, service and staff were friendly and never waited more than 5 minutes for our meal. Highly recommend this place!.
They serve unique and fresh healthy persian food with great service. The atmosphere is amazing with music playing at all times.
We had a delicious meal here. The owners and staff are wonderful - welcoming, helpful, and attentive. All our food was delicious - the lamb, beef, chicken, and all the sides.
Joojeh and Koobideh kabob, which is essentially a seasoned chicken & beef kabob, served with Basmati rice with saffron seasoning on top. It also came with bread and sabzi (Persian herbs) with feta cheese and radishes. Food came out quick, service was great. Recommend trying the spicy ground chicken as well.
Our favorite restaurant! We always come here with the family for holidays and special occasions. It holds such beautiful memories in our hearts. Thank you for being a part of our lives.
I'll be going over pros and cons of this restaurant, The Shalizaar Experience. The food was pretty good. I got a koobideh kabob, yogurt with cucumbers, chicken, and bread. You are firstly greeted with water and bread. You then can choose your option of beverage, which comes next. Lastly, you get whatever you ordered (chicken, koobideh, or others). Con: if you have a low appetite or have 2 or 3 people, ordering family style may be a bad option. This is because you get a ton of foods that just 3 people cant eat. One of the pictures lists family style. The atmosphere seems calm and classic. The food doesn't fit with the environment but it feels like your fitting the atmosphere with both styles of Italy and Mediterranean. Service is average. Service really helps and does every job appropriately but they don't seem in the mood of chatting or even smiling. It makes sense but it doesn't feel very warm, especially to the atmosphere. As a Persian, I've eaten these food, especially Iranian kabobs. They pretty much match in flavor.
This is a great place for Persian food. Great selection of meats and delicious dishes. I recommend trying to combo plate to get a few different options. They also bring out a basket of herbs, cheese, and bread to start is a complimentary appetizer. Recommend trying some Persian tea in the end of your meals.
We visited the place on a Friday evening, the place was full but not too crowded, free tables available. Very nice atmosphere, pleasant music, nice interior. The entrance was decorated for the Persian new year. We ordered a salad, a yoghurt drink and two main dishes: lamb leg and kubideh. The service was very fast and polite. A pleasant surprise was a basket with warm freshly baked bread and a plate with cheese, nuts, and fresh mint. We paid totally around 55 usd. Overall, this place is totally worth visiting.
I absolutely love Shalizaar, have been coming here for years. A peninsula classic, amazing food and amazing service with reasonable pricing. Thank you!
We have been coming here for many years to celebrate special occasions. Today we got take out. There is a really large menu of delicious Persian food choices. The bread salads meats all of it are fantastic. I love the roasted tomato! Mymom loves the shirazi salad. The service is always top notch. It has a warm and welcoming feeling In addition to the main dining room there is another dining room in the back with a very pretty mural. It's a great place to go for a special occasion or to get take out for a special occasion. There is parking and there's a parking spot that is wheelchair accessible and there are also 2 parking spots for picking up take out.
What an amazing Persian restaurant! Food is absolutely one of the best in South Bay! Service and atmosphere is also excellent but the food is just amazing!
I've been dining at Shalizaar for seven years, and it remains one of my top choices for Persian cuisine in the San Francisco Bay Area. The food quality is consistently excellent, offering a delicious variety of dishes that truly capture the essence of Persian flavors. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, perfect for any occasion, whether you're out with family or friends. The staff and management are always friendly and welcoming, making every visit a pleasant experience. One highlight of dining at Shalizaar is their freshly baked Lavaash bread—it's a must-try! If you're looking for an authentic and satisfying Persian dining experience, Shalizaar is the place to go.
The food was delicious. It’s a rare occasion when my kids will clean their plate and I don’t need to beg them to eat more.
Plenty of tables inside and was greeted and seated right away at dinner. Quiet setting and server took time to recommend dishes for our first time here. The starter bread basket was very fresh. Got the signatures - lamb chops plate and ground chicken koobideh. Good portions all around. Very flavorful, juicy and done well. The lamb smell was a bit too strong dor me but my friend enjoyed the oozy fattiness with a glass of red wine. The salad and rice and the housemade yogurt in the appetizer section were OK. Would come back to try the rest of the extensive menu, esp. soup and dessert!
If you know, you know. Shalizar’s is one of those spots that just gets it right every single time. The koobideh over rice is straight wowie, perfectly seasoned, juicy, grilled just right, and paired with that fluffy saffron rice that somehow disappears way too fast. Comfort food, elevated. But honestly, the food is only half the magic. The staff here works hard and it shows. You’re always greeted with genuine warmth, and there’s this unmistakable father-and-son combo, family-owned vibe that makes you feel like you’re walking into someone’s home, not just a restaurant. Real smiles, real hospitality, real pride in what they do. Consistently delicious, welcoming, and full of heart. Shalizar’s isn’t just a meal it’s a place you keep coming back to because it feels right. 👏🍽️
I’ve dined at Shalizaar several times and always appreciate the rich flavors and quality ingredients. The menu has a nice variety of Persian classics, and the service is consistently good. Highly recommended for anyone craving authentic Middle Eastern cuisine.
Just their last night, they are really great, meet you at the door, seating was comfortable, their food is over the top delicious, salads, wow o wow, fresh and tasty filled with cheese and a mild dressy, perfect. We had a compo plate, filled with chicken, beef, lamb, cook to perfection. All the yastes and aroma s were a delight.
Today I went to Shalizar and ordered Shirin Polo and Bakhtiari. The atmosphere is warm, friendly, and genuinely welcoming. The staff and the manager were incredibly kind and attentive. The food was the highlight. The Shirin Polo was outstanding. Rich, perfectly balanced, and absolutely worth ordering. The Koobideh and Barg were also cooked just right, tender and full of flavor. Overall, the quality of the food is excellent and truly brings back the taste of Iran. They also serve fresh, hot bread with herbs, cheese, and nuts before the main meal, which was a really nice touch.
If you are looking for an authentic Persian culinary experience, this restaurant is a must-visit. From the moment you sit down, you are greeted with a traditional starter of freshly baked lavash naan, served alongside creamy feta cheese, crunchy walnuts, and vibrant sabzi (fresh herbs). It’s the perfect way to awaken your palate. The highlights of the meal, however, are the main courses: The Tahdig: It is perfectly crispy and golden. What sets it apart is the option to top it with their savory stews, making every bite a rich explosion of texture and flavor. The Grills: The Lamb Kabab is incredibly tender, and the Koobideh is seasoned to perfection—juicy, flavorful, and charred just right. Baghali Polo with Lamb Shank: The lamb shank literally falls off the bone, and the Baghali Polo (fava bean and dill rice) is aromatic and perfectly fluffy. To wash it all down, their Dough (yogurt drink) is refreshing and acts as the perfect traditional accompaniment to the savory meats. Finally, make sure to save room for dessert. Ending the night with a warm glass of tea paired with their flaky Baklava or the sweet, syrupy Zoolbia Bamieh is the only way to go. Highly recommended for anyone craving genuine Persian flavors!
It was a pleasant experience. The food was good and tasted fresh, and the menu had plenty of options to choose from. The restaurant building was nice and beautiful, which made the visit enjoyable. Overall, it’s one of the best Persian restaurants I’ve tried, and I’d recommend giving it a shot.
We had an amazing experience at Shalizar Persian Restaurant. The best service! We ordered the lamb kebab and the chicken — both were incredibly flavorful, juicy, and perfectly cooked. The desserts were just as impressive: the tiramisu was delicious, and the Persian ice cream had such a beautiful, unique taste. Everything was fresh, well-prepared, and the staff made us feel truly welcomed. Highly recommend this place!
We celebrated my mom’s birthday at this restaurant, and everything was excellent — from the food to the service and ambiance ! The staff went above and beyond to accommodate us. We were a party of 22, and everything ran so smoothly. The atmosphere was perfect, and everyone had a great time. Highly recommend for any special occasion!
Since Shamshiri in Westwood/ LA, this is by far the best Persian restaurant we found . Nothing beats LA's Shamshiri of course. Shalizar is elegant , friendly owner and staff . The food is amazing, generous portions. We enjoyed the Joui Hen and Lamb . Criticism : The pistachio green tile around the brick oven is *VERY UGLY*. Spend $1500 to renovate it. Criticism 2 : Give bigger portion of grilled tomatoes (2). It costs little but goes a long way in customer's eyes.
This review is for the banquet hall. We had a banquet of 70 people on Nov 2, 2024 for an Anniversary and Retirement party. From start to finish both Naveed and Shawn were extremely easy and pleasant to work with. I could tell they had done this a many, many times and had all the answers. They even had an easel to put the seating chart on. The food was absolutely amazing. We used the normal banquet menu and just added the herbs & nuts & feta (sabzi). The wine was very good and the wine & beer table worked out really well. The hall and the audio/visual equipment was perfect for our 2 group dances and our one couples dance. They even had a mircrophone we could use. The price point was perfect. We had 3 disabled people, one in a wheel chair, and entrance was easy for them. We used both the parking lot and street parking and no one complained so I assume it was great. We also had about 6 children and it was very kid-friendly. Shalizaar made our celebration the best party I've ever been to. The tables & lighting & mural provided a magical atmosphere. The service was excellent. I VERY highly recommend using Shalizaar's banquet facilities for your celebration.
مطعم ايراني I tried this cuisines for sharing couple main dishes and appetizers. The portions for 2 were fair enough. The restaurant was a bit busy 💑👨❤️👨👩❤️💋👨👩❤️💋👩👬👭👫but the service was fast 🕺🏻🏃🏽♂️➡️🏃🏽➡️🏃🏽♂️➡️🏃🏽➡️🏃🏻🏃🏻🏃🏻. The dishes taste good. Not too oily 👍🏼 The price a bit high but it is San Mateo 💵💵💵💵. The restaurant normally for groups thus usually noisy. There was birthday party ss well 🎂 Parkings are available as well. I will put my dishes. Enjoy it and if you like it, click 👍🏼
I recently dined at this restaurant and was thoroughly impressed with the overall experience. The food was excellent, offering great flavors, and the portion sizes were generous, leaving me satisfied. However, I must say that the "kask-e-bademjoon" dish didn't quite meet my expectations; it lacked the same level of excellence found in the other dishes. Despite this, the overall dining experience was enjoyable, and I would still recommend trying their other offerings.
Love Shalizaar, been coming here for years. The food is consistently fantastic and feels like home. The service is always warm and prompt. The portions are huge and fresh. Thank you!

This is my to go place wherever I visit Bay Area for work; and this time, I took one of my coworkers there, and he really liked the food. The Shalizaar kebab plate with Barg, koobideh and chicken was great! I am removing one star due to inefficiency in the payment process. When we asked to split the check, they asked us to go and pay at the counter instead of brining separate checks which seemed odd.
"I recently dined at Shalizar Restaurant and had a mixed experience. The atmosphere and service were great, but the food was hit-or-miss. Unfortunately, the Mojito drink was a letdown - it was overly sweet and lacked flavor. On the plus side, the rice was cooked to perfection! Unfortunately, the Gheyme Bademjon (eggplant dish) was disappointing, lacking depth and flavor. However, the Mirzaghasemi (roasted eggplant and tomato dish) was a highlight - rich and flavorful! Overall, I'd give Shalizar 4 stars for the great service and some delicious dishes, but improvement is needed on others. Worth a visit, but be selective with your order!
Haven't visited in a couple years. The kebabs have shrunk quite a bit from my last visit years ago. Shrinkflation at its finest. Prices are still ok, but less of a value. Flavor of everything is still great.
They served us Sabzi, cheese, soaked walnut, and unlimited freshly oven baked Iranian bread. The taste of having those little goodies wrapped in warm bread was absolutely amazing. Sabzi was charged at $1 first sample plate and $10 for a full plate if you order. Food was delicious. Salmon rice plate was pricey for what's worth. Joojeh (chicken) kebab was tender but lacked saffron flavor. Gheymeh was an insipid yellow colored mush as tomato paste was missing in recipe to give out the golden reddish color, taste was alright nonetheless. Salad shirazi was fresh. Friendly waiters provide genuinely nice service. Insolent owner couldn't squeeze a smile to see us off. Unreplenished restroom.
Food is delicious authentic Persian / Mediterranean cuisine. Service is fine with attentive responsive waiters. Location is good with many dedicated parking spaces. Good for kids, groups and small parties. There is in house stone oven to bake fresh bread / naan. Try yogurt drink (doogh) for sure with Kabobs. Highly recommend this place for Persian food.
Great place, awesome food, fair prices, not as impressive service though! O btw it’s on Michelin Guide as well! You walk in to a wall of fame of the many prizes the place had won and it has been around for years! The two times we went there getting some one to wait on you was a game of “catch me if you can”! But people were super nice and friendly, just seems under staffed! Indoor space is tastefully decorated with an entrance under a beautiful dome ceiling. Great food btw as well and the price leaves a lot of other Persian restaurants in the bay in well deserved dust😁 You are welcomed with bread, cheese, veggies, walnuts and fresh baked bread(they bake them right there!) food came out pretty fast after we managed to order. Cleanness: very clean People: nice and friendly Parking: has a lot but might be full Seating: indoor and outdoor Lighting: slightly on the darker side Noise: moderate Menu Diversity: pretty diverse persian cuisine Portion: on the bigger side Price: very fair Food: great kabobs! Waiting: hard to get a waiter:/ hence the missing star
Its not the best Persian restaurant, but we like their beef koobideh, freshly baked flat bread, and yogurt. Very nice interior space but we had to get the servers' attention several times. The foods are reasonably priced. Overall, it's a decent Persian restaurant.
I stopped in with a colleague around 4pm while crossing from SF to Oakland for a work trip. It wasn't busy at that time, so there were only 2 servers but the service was great. The staff was very friendly and attentive. We ordered 2 appetizers and 2 meals. The food came out very quickly and was tasty. The appetizers were well portioned and even better than the entrees. Everything was fairly priced. I'd stop in again.
We started out with Appetizers 1- Mirza Ghasemi 2- kashki bademjon 3- noon panir sabzi ( bread- cheese- greens) Complimentary - it was brought to the table when we were seated For the Main dishs, we ordered 1- kobideh chicken( ground chicken) 2- kobideh beef( ground beef ) 3- shishleek(lamb rack) Everything was shared family style and was enough for four adults and two children. The kobideh and lamb chops were all devoured. We all enjoyed the food and company
We tried the “Shalizar for Two” and it was absolutely amazing! I really liked that it came with four delicious skewers, allowing me to try a variety of meats and flavors in one order. Everything was cooked to perfection — tender, juicy, and full of authentic Persian taste. The portion size was generous and the price very reasonable for the quality and quantity. The ambiance is cozy, the service is friendly, and the food reminds me of home-cooked Persian meals. I’ve tried many Persian restaurants around the Bay Area, but honestly, Shalizar stands out as one of the best. Highly recommended for anyone looking for flavorful, authentic Persian food and a great dining experience!
Tried their koobideh, must moosir and tah dig. All great except the koobideh was too soft. It was well cooked but too soft not sure what happened there and needed salt. I love the fact they bake their own bread in front of you as you sit. The location is decent. Ambiance is good and service was good too. Will come again.

We had kashk-o-bademjan, koobideh and chenje. Kashk-o-bademjan had was so sour that was not any resemblance to traditional Persian one. I don't know what kind of recepie they are using. No fried onion, nor hot garlic. Chenje and koobideh were totally tasteless. The bread was good thought. The restaurant has potential but needs a lot of changes.
This restaurant is average by all standards: quality of food, taste, service, price and atmosphere. As a Persian and restaurant reviewer, I have been to Persian restaurants in many countries across the world including Canada and USA. The Koobideh although well cooked, it was not of highest quality with lots of fat content, the taste was average, and it was smaller in size than most other average Koobideh you get elsewhere. Joojeh Kabab, also well cooked but taste was bland, not juicy and did not have enough saffron and lemon for taste. It was also much smaller than average skewers. Salad shirazi was so average. Normally it should include more onions and Cucumbers, but it was mostly tomatoes. Also, salad shirazi is usually cut into smaller pieces for better presentation. (There was no walnut on the salad, I added it myself to make it look nicer!) The food taste did not impress me as an experienced restaurant reviewer. Wouldn't necessarily go back.
I have been here many times. I was a huge fan of this place and might have been given the. 5 stars, but on my recent visit I noticed the food quality has gone down. From the rice to the meats and in between. Even the grilled tomatoes we’re barely ripe. I still gave them 3 stars because the staff provided good service.
The food is great. But the service was not so much. Never got refill on neither bread or drink. The staff seemed to be overwhelmed, never got our hot tea at the end either. I guess we will continue ordering delivery from Shalizaar as the food is consistently good. The delivery is consistently good quality, ontime, and fairly priced. Highly recommend to fellow persian food lovers in Bay Area as well as our guests and visitors from all over the world. Koobide's have been shrinking pretty significantly although the prices have inflated. Sad story, this place used to be good.
We were in the restaurant in the evening without a reservation and still got a table. The restaurant is very well attended. The staff and the facilities are really good. My main course was beef kebap with Persian rice. Unfortunately, I found the food bland and was disappointed with the main course. My companion liked the food but it was not a highlight. In addition, there was free bread with cheese, nuts and spice leaves. This was really good.

the head server was not attentive and lacked hospitality skills.i had chelo kabab barg . Rice was tasteless. It looked like meet was pouched not barbecued . No flavor no meet eroma and dry and very thin. The ambiance was okay not to my liking. The parking was excellent.
I ordered Sultani and did not taste good. It was not fresh and it was reheated.
We had heard a lot about Shalizar Restaurant, especially the warm naan, sanzi, and paneer-o-gerdo, so we decided to treat our out-of-town guests here. The atmosphere is beautiful, and the hosts and servers are truly wonderful—very attentive and welcoming. Unfortunately, the food didn’t live up to the hype. We ordered kashkeh bademjan, but the dish was very small for the price—we had to order four of them just to have enough appetizer for five people. For the main course, most of us ordered baarg and one person tried the soltani. The meat lacked flavor, wasn’t juicy, and the baarg tasted almost as if it had been pre-chewed. The food was only warm, not hot, which made it feel less fresh. For a table of five, our total came to about $250, and we left disappointed. While the service and atmosphere were great, the food did not meet expectations. Sadly, we won’t be coming back.
Barg filet minion was over cooked and tasted different. Probably becuase they did not clean the old food remnants on the grill. A younger waiter started arguing with me about how I should have told him how to cook the meat. I told him I didn't want to argue. Manager came over and apologized. Never coming back.
We are from Los Angeles We just came here this long weekend. My wife ordered Fesenjoon which was fine. I ordered cornish chicken with bones. I'm Persian so I have had Cornish chicken with bones thousands of times in my life. This one definitely was on the bottom five of my list. Hen was not a young or small chicken. It was an OLD and HUGE chicken. The taste was not good. Also in this restaurant I don't see any Persian host or worker. It's just walking to a foreign environment. You expect to see some Persian faces some Persian people.
I'm Persian and know our food extremely well. This had no flavor whatsoever. Please don't label it as persian food -- it gives the wrong impression of our cuisine.and very poor service , the waiter…
The food was absolutely disgusting as a Persian that tried all types of kebabs this has to be hands down the worst Persian restaurant in the world, not only the food was bad they charged 10$ for 3 sprites, a 15$ tip, a 30$ service fee, and they even charged for a table. And the menu didn’t say prices the total was 210$ even though the quality and taste of the food was bad.
Insect in my drink I visited Shalizar restaurant recently with my wife and ordered koobideh kabob and two beers. While the food was decent, I was extremely disappointed to find a large fly in my beer glass. I brought it to the owner's attention, but instead of apologizing, he only offered to replace the drink. There was no sense of regret or concern for the situation, which made the experience quite unpleasant. In the end, I paid the full amount, including for the drink with the insect and food. This was a very unfortunate experience, and I expected better customer service.
