Opinions de Gran Torino Brooklyn
A great atmosphere, excellent service, fantastic drinks, I will definitely be back!
Their patio got my attention and decided to have a quick bite to eat, although I did not sit on the patio but on one of the small table on the street, I had a good time here. The hostess was so nice and friendly, same thing with the bartender. I had the burrata salad with chicken on the side; I don’t know how they prepare the chicken but I loved it! Definitely I’ll come back for a quick bite to eat again!
I had the privilege of having my graduation party in the El Dorado room at Gran Torino. The staff’s communication leading up to the event was excellent. The atmosphere was such a steal for the affordable price. The food was excellent and our guests mentioned that they will be definitely be coming back to try more off the menu. The service was incredible throughout the night. An especially huge thank you to Franny. She was a showstopping bartender for our event and lit up the room with her energy and charisma. We all left the restaurant loving her!
We returned after a rough first impression and had a wonderful time!! Great ambience, amazing martinis and food with a ton of flavor. Service was great too, we were very pleased!
We went to Gran Torino because a friend of us recommended it, we were blown away by their service, staff and the most important the food OMG! We’ve been taken care of since we got to the place, Walter has been a fantastic host during the whole night, he was constantly checking out our table and needs, later on he explained to us what’s what makes Gran Torino a staple in the neighborhood in addition to an after dinner walkthrough of the place and all the available options to host our private party in their different rooms (the Riva room is a little gem worth to experience it) We’ve been recommending the place since then and it seems that the word of mouth is being spread because anytime that we talk about Gran Torino there’s friends that have been in the place living the same experience as us. I wish y’all the best luck and can’t wait to see you soon to spend more quality time in an stunning environment
Love, love, love this place!!! Great vibes.. chill with great service… awesome wood oven pizza and Santiago makes a freaking great espresso martini (which everyone can not!) He was also very attentive and surpassed my expectations of a bartender! Will definitely come again!
Dinner and drinks, love the vibe and we brought our dog. The food is excellent, really good gluten free pizza. We also had tacos, guac and the burger. Everything was delicious and really fresh ingredients!
If you're looking for a fantastic spot in New York that perfectly blends great food, craft cocktails, and a vibrant atmosphere, Gran Torino in Williamsburg is the place to be! From the moment you walk in, you're welcomed by a stylish yet cozy ambiance. The service is top-notch – friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable. You never feel rushed, yet everything arrives promptly and with a smile. Highly recommended!
Stopped by for lunch on my way to an event and was so glad I did! My sandwich was delicious and so was my espresso martini. The bartender did an amazing job 👌🏼 would definitely stop by again later in the day for dinner!
I was visiting from CT and stopped in and the service and atmosphere here is top notch. My bartender Dimajio was great and so personable - makes a great espresso martini! I will definitely be back the next time I am in Brooklyn!!
Absolutely wonderful lunch spot. The back seating area is beautiful, and the service and food are just as good. Our server Christopher was amazing!
Great spot with solid drinks and awesome pizza. Nice vibes and the yurts are awesome. Awesome place to have an adult birthday party.
I was just here last night and wow just WOW! I had such an amazing night. Our waitress I forgot to catch her name, she was so sweet and attentive, excellent customer service. We can’t wait to go back and have such a chill relaxing night. Great job Gran Torino!
Such a cool spot to meet with a group of friends! ☀️ We enjoyed the outdoor space on a sunny Sunday afternoon. We had our own little tent/cabana and had plenty of space for 8 people. We pretty much ran on pitchers of their spicy margaritas which was delicious 🍸 They have so much space indoor/outdoor and the decor is super funky 🕺🏼
The atmosphere is like no other, the service is fantastic from the bartenders to the barbacks and back servers. The cocktails are fantastic from the frozen cocktails to the fresh. An atmosphere for a night out, a night alone or a night with friends!
We went on a Sunday night this place was really beautiful. we sat down at the bar outside and had a few drinks, the whole concept of this place is amazing multiple rooms with different themes, and the garden it's just gorgeous, we ordered a few bites and they were tasty. overall a good experience! we will definitely be back!
An awesome place! Each area of the restaurant is different in design and vibe, but all are amazing! The service was really good (especially if you get Raquel to serve you!! Also Anna, the manager was doing a great job). The outdoor area is great for sunny days, but they also have an indoor garden area which is lit! Food is okay and prices are fair. Happy hour drinks are great!
We had our wedding after party here and couldn’t have had a better experience! The space was gorgeous, drinks and snacks were great, and we danced all night. The service was fantastic. We recommend Gran Torino 100% for any event needs!
What a spot! This is easily one of my favorite places in Brooklyn. It’s perfect for a date night, quick drink, brunch or dinner. They have a huge space complete with a boujee bar, indoor & outdoor dining (sit outside on a nice day as it’s shaded and a great vibe), and a pool table that’s FREE! I ordered the steak and eggs and it was phenomenal. The chimichurri sauce hit. Oh and did I mention they have frozen margaritas. Spicy and regular. Can’t wait to go back.
I absolutely LOVED Gran Torino. My boyfriend and I casually stopped to eat lunch here after a long day of shopping in Williamsburg. The atmosphere was perfect, decorated with plants, relaxing music, and privacy. We sat in an outdoor hut with a heater and enjoyed the Eggplant Bites, Quattro Stagioni Pizza, Old-Style Burger, a Beer, and a Latte from the brunch menu. The food was delicious; we devoured each dish! Gran Torino offers indoor, outdoor, and a glass-indoor areas to dine. Gran Torino was by far my favorite restaurant in Brooklyn; the vibes were perfect; I recommend it for a date, catching up with friends, or meeting up with family.
Escape the city here. I was walking in here stressed about work, and it all melted away, transported me to a mellow, luscious, oasis. Super friendly staff, Cris, my server was awesome. Jorge, the manager answered all my questions with a smile. Loved my cocktails, had the tuna sandwich on focaccia, and it took it to a new level. A surprisingly easy dish to mess up but theirs was 110% perfect. Fresh ingredients, tasty, mmmmmmm. All I have to say is YUM. What a unique atmosphere. Love the rustic look with all the greenery. Love this place, can't wait to come back & bring friends here.
What a fun place. Anywhere that has a working outdoor BBQ pit and an actual rowboat for decoration is going to be serious about fun.this place is on a corner of Williamsburg and depending upon which side you're looking at it, it looks like multiple places. Even inside there are a few distinct rooms. But to be fair, what caught our eyes was the sign saying dog-friendly. Turns out much of Williamsburg is dog friendly. But having a sign clearly state that is smart since we were out with our pooch. We sat in the large patio-like area which was technically outdoors while being covered and sheltered from the weather if it doesn't cooperate. So ambiance - check. Service was fine - they even provided a water bowl for our dog. They have the now ubiquitous QR code based website for their menu. We had a glass of Prosecco (very nice). We ordered the crab cake burger with a side of the potatoes (crispy and amazing!) and the Gran Torino salad with smoked salmon. The crabcake itself was encouraging-it wasn't actually jumbo lump but it wasn't the shredded imitation kind. It came on a toasted bun topped with lettuce, coleslaw, and some remoulade sauce. The coleslaw was a new one for me.it was tasty but itwas pretty wet that it compromised the crunchy exterior of the crab cake. But it was definitely tasty and of good quality all things considered. The salad was actually really good. It had cucumbers, alfalfa sprouts, roasted corn, chick peas, avocado, tomatoes and red quinoa. I'm not a salad person and guys, I didn't even douse it with salad dressing like I normally do! Frankly, it felt kind of like being in LA. Although I didn’t order any, they do offer reasonably priced coffees and oat milk with no upcharge. Probably the only minor gripe was a somewhat limited lunch menu without a theme. But better than a huge menu with mediocre food. Definitely recommended.
I always have a fantastic experience at Gran Torino in Williamsburg! The food was delicious, and their drinks menu is amazing, offering something for everyone!!! The outdoor and indoor areas are perfect for enjoying a meal with your furry friend, as they are pet-friendly!!! This place is truly a gem in Williamsburg—highly recommend it! PSD: BEST MICHELADAS IN NEW YORK!!!!
We had our daughter’s Bridal shower this past weekend. “ Carlos” and his staff went beyond our expectations to accommodate us. The room was laid out beautifully ( we had our own decor as well) The food was served in a timely manner Bartender kept the drinks flowing. Great time was had by all A big Shout out to Carlos and His amazing staff for making it a most memorable day for our daughter!
Add Gran Torino to your go-to places. Cool vibe, huge outdoor space, good brunch, excellent margaritas, and some other worthy things on the menu like the Tel-Aviv style potatoes, and the phenomenal gazpacho( seasonal dish) make this place a winner. Plus, it does NOT break the bank. Excellent spot for big groups.
Gran Torino never disappoints! I’ve been here so many times whether it’s for a quick sandwich, a drink, dinner, or something from their cute little market. Literally everything on the menu is impressive and absolutely delicious. The outdoor seating is absolutely adorable and makes you feel welcome. I suggest this place to all of my friends and they agree!!! The cauliflower buffalo bites are PERFECT, not too much heat to them. The scallop ceviche is beautiful and the juice for it is on par. Their pollo arrosto sandwich is absolutely divine, not too much sauce. And the tacos are to die for.
This is one of my new favorite spots. We sat at a table in one of the yurts out front. It was a great experience and we shared the space with three other couples. Our server, Deo, was super sweet and very attentive. The security guard was also very welcoming. Also, the drinks and food were delicious! I will definitely be back. Hopefully we don’t get the same hostess bc he was super rude and dry. Besides that, everything was A++.
Came for lunch. Nothing to complain about, fair priced mixed menu restaurant with a bit of California vibes. Ordered the chicken breaded sandwich and was pretty impressed actually, wasn’t expecting it to be so craft. The crispy potatoes were insanely good as well, maybe we just got an extremely lucky day with the kitchen but I will be back. Looks like they have happy hour as well to check out. Stay was quick, helpful, and super polite.
I had the honor and pleasure of coordinating a wedding rehearsal/ welcome party for a couple at Gran Torino! What a unique and cool atmosphere! The food and service is outstanding! All of the guests had a great time! Highly recommend Gran Torino for dinner or to host your special event/ wedding!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Gran Torino is a must – whether it’s for brunch, dinner, happy hour, or cocktails – but especially for events. My fiancé and I had our engagement party here (combined with his birthday), and it was honestly one of the best nights ever Ana made the entire planning process seamless. She was super accommodating with every detail – food, drinks, seating, even helping us expand from the Velvet Room to include the El Dorado bar. As a type A planner (aka endless emails), I really appreciated her patience and attention to detail. I’m so grateful for everything she did to help make the night exactly what we envisioned The four-course family-style dinner was incredible – our 78 guests couldn’t stop talking about how good and plentiful the food was. The drinks were amazing, and the service was top-tier. Big thanks to Carlos and Saul for making sure the night ran smoothly – our guests from all over the tri-state area were really impressed We worked with @momentsbysydneyrose for planning/decor and @martindavisflowers for florals, and they turned the space into the perfect disco vibe. Gran Torino was the ideal setting, and we couldn’t be happier with how it all came together If you’re thinking about hosting an event, Gran Torino is the spot. (Sharing photos from the night – photographer @thaliacameraist on Instagram) Thank you again to the entire team!
Last night I went for dinner. We were seated by the pool table and had a lot of fun. Food was great and service was amazing. Our server was a young lady that helped with drink and food recommendations. Thank you Gran Torino, will be back soon!
Great place to grab a drink and study! The outdoor area is super cute but was a little cold so I sat in the greenhouse. The greenhouse was more for food and drinks, so I migrated to the "cafe" area where the bar is where I was able to work on my laptop. There were plenty of other people in their laptops in the cafe/indoor bar area, so I'd def recommend Gran Torino as a place to grab a happy hour cocktail and study/work/read 😊 Happy hour cocktails were $11 all day on Thursday. Highly recommend the spicy cucumber margarita 🌶️ 🥒 🍹
I hosted the welcome drinks for my wedding at Gran Torino in the El Dorado Room and Courtyard, and it was a fantastic night. This room allowed us to have a whole bar to ourselves with private bartenders and an outdoor area with patio seating. The staff was attentive and fun, and the space was great for our group of around 100 people. We were able to curate a playlist and have our music run for the night. Could not recommend this space enough for a private party especially on a nice night in spring summer or early Fall.
Amazing happy hours place with pool table and dog friendly. The place has lots of rooms and space plus nice decoration. Server, bartender and manager look very happy working, giving good service, easy and friendly vibes. I got Passion fruit frozen margaritas, very delicious and refreshing. Late night happy hours give me more chance to enjoy drinking and talking with my friend. I will probably bring more friends next time.
Superrrrrr cute Italian restaurant / store. Very natural vibes. Felt like I was at my grandma’s house in Europe! I think 10/10 for vibes. The avo toast was not that good - wrong bread choice - and the salad was good but just a lot of vinegar. I think I ordered wrong, though. That is on me. Get one of their specialities. Sit and enjoy. They have a good happy hour, coffee, outdoor area, indoor area, it’s a lovely lovely spot.
We had our engagement party at Grand Torino in Brooklyn and it was simply amazing. With over 80 of our closest friends and family in attendance, the Velvet Room was spacious and inviting. The team truly went above and beyond for us. Ana was incredible in the planning stages, taking care of every little detail before the event, and on the day, Carlos made sure everything ran smoothly, helping us set up our decor and making us feel so at ease. The food was delicious and everyone had nothing but great things to say about it. Being in our favorite Brooklyn neighborhood made the whole day even more special. Overall, Grand Torino made our day unforgettable with their attentive, friendly service and a venue that feels both stylish and welcoming. We couldn’t have asked for a better place to celebrate our love.
Summers are a vibe here. The margaritas are wonderful and always hits! Love that you can take drinks to-go. Food is just okay nothing crest compared to everything in the area. Just a great bar vibe all around
I went there spontaneously with my friend and it did not disappoint. The pizza was delicious, the spicy cucumber margarita which the server Abael suggested was amazing. I forgot my bag, I sent an email after 11pm and they were supper quick to respond. I'll definitely come again, I'm in love with the atmosphere! The place is huge and i live the vibe!
Love this place! A gem, great place to hang out have a meal or drinks. The brick oven pizza is amazing and the tiramisu was to die for! They don’t charge extra for oat milk which is like so dope. Great bustling atmosphere and outdoor seating. Great music too. Will be back! Service is great, should out to the Latin hospitality. Note: they’re a little weird about reservations and where you sit.
DEFINITELY NOT a 4.1⭐️ place!! I read some bad reviews so I wasn’t sure, but I gave it a chance and I have to say, this is not a 4.1-star place. It should be at least a 4.5. Great vibes, loved the style, safe, welcoming host, professional and quick service. The food was delicious and came out in less than 15 minutes. Honest pricing and great value for money. What else do you want? Give it a chance and support a local business!
We had our wedding at Gran Torino this summer. The food, drink, and overall vibe was excellent (as usual here), but above all the experience working with Ana and her team was perfection. She accommodated every request we had and were so flexible throughout the process, from custom menu items to the setup and arrangement of the space the day of. We could not have picked a better place for our wedding day. Thanks to Ana and the rest of the GT team!
I celebrated my birthday at Gran Torino and had such a great experience! We reserved a space for our group, and everything went perfectly — the staff was friendly, fast responding and attentive, the food was delicious, and the atmosphere was exactly what I was hoping for. Everyone had a wonderful time — highly recommend for any kind of celebration or night out!
I had my rehearsal dinner here for my wedding. We had 130 people come and they handled everything so well. Food was plentiful and delicious. The staff were great with my guests and bar tenders were awesome. Everyone got drinks quickly with 0 line for food or drinks. Carlos and Ana worked so hard to get everything prepared and it was perfectly executed. 10/10 experience.
We had our engagement party in the Velvet room with 100 friends/family and it was top notch. The atmosphere was amazing. The best part was how easy and seamless the staff made it. The bartenders, manager, and all staff were so helpful. We couldn’t recommend this enough!
Place is great for groups. The staff were really nice and food was good. It may take some time to take your order, slower service compared to other places, so chill and enjoy the nice weather!! Dog friendly ❤️ they have a special dog menu, which my dog took advantage off 🐶🦴 We’ll be back soon!!!!
Despite the bad reviews below, I was nearby in the area & recently stopped by to grab a quick bite here. My dining experience here was quite pleasant. I arrived around 2 pm and asked for a table for one & the waiter quickly accommodated me. I didn’t have to wait long for my orders and the staff were friendly. Perhaps, the people who had bad experiences got here during peak operating hours?
Gran Torino in Williamsburg offers a delightful dining experience with its flavorful dishes and inviting ambiance. While the service can be a bit slow at times, the quality of the food and the cozy atmosphere make up for it. It's a great spot to relax and enjoy a meal, especially if you're not in a rush.
I really like this place and have been a few times but that hostess at the front is absolutely ridiculous. The place was nearly empty and we asked if we could sit at the larger table with an umbrella since it was 85 and sunny. There were only two of us and I normally wouldn’t even ask if we could use a larger table, but there were plenty of large tables available in case larger groups came in. She told us ok fine but other people have to sit with us if they come in. I watched as every couple came in she would immediately go to sit them at our table even though other tables were open. The other couples looked around at the other tables open and asked if they could sit at their own table. It felt like she was being spiteful and trying to get random people to sit at our table because we asked to sit there and it apparently inconvenienced her… very strange. Other than that, good food, the guac is SO good! Also happy they had some mocktail options! Love that!
Very cool aesthetics really soaks up the neighborhood vibes. Larger than it looks from the outside in, perfect for a warm day since they have a lot of outdoor seating and natural air flowing in. Drinks were great! Pizza bread was tasty and fish tacos were surprisingly good. The Salsiccia is very ricotta forward and scallions are overpowering, but a unique taste. Would of been fine with a slice vs. a whole pie. Sure the other red sauce pies are better. Only thing that made it lose a star is because the food service is veryyyy slow. So expect a wait and to just drink up in the meantime.
Wonderful place to come with a friend or small group of people to sit outside have an espresso or a cocktail. Maybe share an entree or tasty appetizer such as the crispy potatoes tel Aviv. Even though the acai bowl was delicious, I am still having a hard time processing the prices out here in New York for food. With that being said, the service was excellent and the atmosphere is some of the best in the neighborhood.
Such a great place 🪴🌱 The garden and natural vibes make you feel you are out off the city 🏙️ They are dog friendly and even have a “dog food menu “ with appetizers & farmers food 🐾🐶 The happy hour is a very different from most of the places ( only at night time) The drinks were good 🍸🍹 We ordered guacamole, burrata, ceviche, tacos, soup & steak sandwic. But unfortunately the server forgot the soup 🍲 ( it was for my friend’s daughter) we had to asked for it, also we got steak tacos that we didn’t order and never get the steak sandwich that we order I guess the server made a mistake again! The main problem was he never came back to the table to check if everything was okay, so when we’re about to leave we had to look up for our server but we never found it 😓 I think his shift had already ended. Someone else brought the bill. I hope the service will be better next time.
We got an Iced Tea, a Capuccino and an Espresso. Coffee was good, but service was surprisingly mean and avoidant, giving RBF when asked something (I asked him for a cup with AN ice). Would recommend for having a break but don’t expect any form of kindness from the employees.
We were three people who went to Gran Torino based on a recommendation. We decided to order pasta, pizza, and a burger with fries. The pizza arrived in 5 minutes, but the burger arrived after 20 minutes, and it came without the fries. I complained about the missing fries, and it turned out that the waiter had forgotten them. Finally, after 40 minutes, the pasta arrived along with the fries for the burger. I must say that the pasta was delicious, the pizza was just average without anything particularly special, and the burger was okay but not extraordinary. The main issue was that the dishes were not served together, even though we had placed the order for everything at once. In summary, the food was okay, but the service was lacking.
I'm hanging there with my lady on a Friday late night. Jawn was mad empty. Yes, we're Black. Spent $100 and change on food and drinks, and they didn't want us dancing and enjoying the music in the empty room. No jitterbug. Just slow dancing with my lady. It sortve ruined the night. Had a phenomenal brunch at B2 in Harlem, and all we could think was, "Gram Torino could never." There was definitely a party in another room that was ending, and we'd already ordered. Maybe they are enforcing the no dancing without a cabaret license, but it felt racially biased. Anyway, if you are Black and wanna jitterbug a lil bit late night with ur special person, don't go here. I've been here before at a comedy show Petey Debreau used organize, with live music, I must've got the wrong impression.
Do not get matcha here 🙅🏼♀️ They do not make the matcha properly and it is so disgustingly sweet, I couldn’t even drink it. It is made from a package of powdered green tea mixed with sugar as the first ingredient. Soooo much sugar 🤮Service was rude and the guy working didn’t seem like he wanted to be there or help me.. this is specific to the coffee shop which is unfortunate because we have eaten dinner here before and service was superb and very helpful. I do appreciate that they don’t upcharge for oatmilk! 👏🏼 Our experience here for dinner was quite the opposite and we got all our questions answered and specifically enjoyed the gazpacho and vegan burger (we triple confirmed the burger sauce was made with vegan mayo). The Gran Torino bowl is pretty okay - I was surprised the components were cold and the chickpeas were raw. I was thinking it would be a warm bowl vibe, but still good.
Horrible attitude from the hostess from the moment we walked in, server went AWOL after bringing us our first round, we've been sitting here with empty glasses for 20 minutes. Half the place was closed for a private event which also blocked the bathrooms, I don't even think that's legal. Terrible service all around.
The owner is very rude, passing lewd comments on my friends girlfriend. Bwry unprofessional. He was in his boxers while doing all this. I wouldn't recommend this place even if you want to have a mediocre night.
Prices are not matched with the menu they share? Some drinks are 33% higher than what they have listed on the website. $10 for a bottled Miller high life is a joke
**Review for Gran Torino** I recently had a disappointing experience at Gran Torino that I felt compelled to share. We decided to stop in for drinks on a beautiful day, hoping to enjoy some time outside. Upon arrival, the hostess requested a credit card before seating us, which was a bit unusual but not a dealbreaker. Once seated, our waiter came to take our order. We asked if the bartender could make a shaken espresso without alcohol. The waiter responded with a dismissive attitude, asking if we had seen it on the menu. We kindly explained that we hadn’t, and asked if he could check with the bartender. He agreed, but shortly returned with the manager. The manager then questioned our drink request and informed us that if it wasn't on the menu, they couldn't accommodate it. We accepted this and decided to order iced coffee instead. To our shock, he then told us that we could only have that drink and that we would need to leave after finishing, claiming that we were extremely rude to the waiter. This came as a complete surprise to us, as we felt we had been polite throughout the encounter. Despite our attempts to apologize for any misunderstanding, we were made to feel unwelcome. Ultimately, we decided to leave rather than stay at a place that seemed to take offense where none was intended. It’s unfortunate, as we were looking forward to enjoying our time there, but we won’t be returning to an establishment that doesn’t want us. Overall, I cannot recommend Gran Torino based on this experience.
I don’t usually leave negative reviews, but my experience at Gran Torino was so disappointing, it feels like a public service to warn others. Let’s start with the food — simply put, it was inedible. Every dish we ordered was either overcooked, under-seasoned, or just plain off. It felt like no one in the kitchen actually tasted what they were serving. Nothing was fresh, and honestly, I’ve had better meals from gas station snacks. The atmosphere? Miserable. The place tries hard to be trendy, but it just comes off as forced and uncomfortable. The vibe was cold, chaotic, and strangely unwelcoming. Not a place you want to sit and enjoy a meal. But the worst part — by far — was the service. Rude, dismissive, and at times downright hostile. We were made to feel like an inconvenience from the moment we walked in. It bordered on inhumane how indifferent and unprofessional the staff was. Do yourself a favor: skip this place entirely. Williamsburg has plenty of amazing spots — Gran Torino is absolutely not one of them.
I recently visited Gran Torino and, to say the least, it was a frustrating experience. While I appreciate restaurants wanting to turn tables, their approach was downright distasteful. We felt rushed out with the bill, even though we were eager to continue ordering food and drinks. It was clear that they were more interested in closing up shop than serving their customers. When I addressed my concerns with the manager, I was met with utter dismissiveness. Instead of seeking to resolve the issue, he had the nerve to tell me that writing a review was "passive aggressive." How ironic! The real passive aggression was coming from him, as he showed no interest in improving our experience. On what was a slow night for the restaurant, it baffled me how they could be losing money by denying us the opportunity to spend more. The customer service was abysmal and in dire need of improvement. I refuse to give this restaurant any more of my business. There are plenty of other places that value their customers and understand the importance of good service. Gran Torino, unfortunately, is not one of them.
Hostess told us 10 minutes until we’d be seated 3 times. Menu doesn’t make any sense. Pizza was one of the most average pizzas I’ve ever tasted and was cold when it came out. Food took forever to come out. Tacos are tiny and have way too much extra veggies and little substance. Very overpriced tacos. Would not come back here ever.
I strongly recommend avoiding this place. We came to celebrate my friend’s birthday and were treated with shocking disrespect by the owner, who even seemed drunk. Instead of welcoming us, he was rude, aggressive, and made up “rules” that had never been mentioned before. He humiliated us, ruined the celebration, and refused to refund the drinks we had already paid for. Completely unprofessional, disorganized, and disrespectful.
The day before visiting this place, we went to ask for all the details. The host told us no reservation was needed for the area that we wanted to stay, and even we decided to make one just to be sure. With everything clarified, we decided to go the next day. As soon as we arrived, however, the owner started treating us terribly for no reason, suddenly talking about ‘rules’ that had never been communicated to us even though we had already gone the day before to confirm everything. He yelled at us, and in the end kicked us out of the place (which btw was empty) simply because he felt like it We were publicly humiliated, forced to leave after I had already paid for drinks (with no refund), and the whole situation ruined what was supposed to be a special day for us. It was the worst service and the most disrespectful treatment we have ever experienced. Absolutely no organization, no respect, and no professionalism. I would never recommend this place to anyone.
Worst customer service ever, refused to honor a happy hour price at 10:00 PM promo that was advertised on two signs outside. When we sat we ordered happy hour and they said was at 11:00 PM - Server and supervisor 0 zero skills to manage the situation and take accountability. Lost two regular customers tonight.
Worst experience I’ve ever had in a bar. I booked one month in advance for New Year’s Eve, clearly specifying that we would have dinner and stay for the entire night. I also contacted them by email to get more information about the evening, as I was told I could book a table and that there would be a DJ set later on. We arrived a bit early and the bar was completely empty. They seated us at the coldest table in the place, in the veranda near the door. After five minutes, they told us that since we had arrived early, we would have to leave the table at 9 p.m. We explained that I had booked the table for the whole night, but they insisted that we leave anyway. We stayed until 9 p.m., and the place was still empty. We mentioned that we were cold, but no one offered to move us to another table (more than half of them were empty). Just after we ordered dinner, they came back to say that we could actually stay, but by that point we had already made other plans. New Year’s Eve ruined.
I went to Gran Torino to celebrate the birthday of a family friend who happened to be DJing that night. I had been there several times before and always enjoyed the atmosphere, but this time the experience was completely different. From the moment I arrived, there was a tense vibe. There was an older man apparently a manager or the owner who seemed visibly under the influence of alcohol. At one point, he approached the DJ and started yelling insults, saying the music “wasn’t good,” even though everyone around was clearly enjoying it. We were about 30 to 40 people, all eating, drinking, and supporting the place throughout the night. What made things worse was that they didn’t allow us to bring out the birthday cake we had brought, even though we were celebrating the DJ. This man spent the entire night sitting in a corner watching everything we did, which made the whole situation feel uncomfortable and overly controlled. We were only able to bring out the cake after he left. All of us consumed like regular customers I personally had dinner and several drinks yet we were made to feel as if they were doing us a favor. It was an unpleasant and unwelcoming experience, and I honestly don’t plan on returning. A place that offers a service should, at the very least, treat its customers with respect.
Gran Torino's food and drink are far from something I'd come back to regularly. However, the service and environment make it a great place to do my studies. Sadly, this afternoon I was asked to put away my laptop and not continue my "work". I don't have a laptop, nor am I part of the sad Brooklyn work-from-home demographic that takes over every cafe. I came to Gran Torino like I regularly do to read and write using my tablet. I'm a regular customer, and I was disappointed that they couldn't make an exception for me to use my device to read. Ironically, I have used my tablet on weekends to read despite this new rule, and I challenged the policy because being told conflicting restaurant policies is often due to poor management. Keep in mind, all this happened before I even opened my iPad to read. Both my server and manager hardly wanted to give me the time of day, let alone look me in the eyes when I tried elaborating that I was not here to work and had already ordered. Instead, I was rushed out the door without care or concern that I'm a regular customer. I'm asking management to review this policy so that solo restaurant goers aren't forced to forgo their e-readers in favor of twiddling their thumbs and drinking away their pains. I would have happily stayed had I brought my book, but that's what my e-reader is for, and I was upset that management couldn't care less—telling me conflicting things while offering no solutions as to what I'm allowed to do in their restaurant besides be on my phone or stare at the table. I'd implore anyone reading this review to do a quick Google search on Gran Torino. This place clearly doesn't have a good reputation because of what other customers are saying about management on places like Reddit. It's clear management needs to experience the service first hand over prioritizing the bottom line.
Misleading Signage and Dismissive Service – A Disappointing Experience I have been a loyal patron of Gran Torino for years, often recommending it to friends and family. However, my recent visit on Friday night has compelled me to reconsider my support. Around 10:45 PM, I was drawn in by a sign outside the restaurant promoting happy hour deals starting at 10 PM. Trusting this information, my party and I decided to dine in. Upon seating, I inquired about the happy hour specials, only to be told by our server that they commence at 11 PM. Confused, I mentioned the sign outside, but he insisted it was incorrect. To ensure I wasn’t mistaken, I stepped outside, confirmed the sign indeed stated a 10 PM start, and even took a photo as evidence. Presenting this to the server, he dismissed it, claiming the sign was outdated from winter and that the menu inside reflected the correct time. This explanation was not only unsatisfactory but also highlighted a lack of attention to detail and customer consideration. Seeking clarity, I was approached by a supervisor after the server consulted with others. When I expressed my concerns about the misleading signage and the importance of accurate information, I was met with a dismissive attitude. The supervisor attempted to downplay the issue, suggesting that since no other customers had complained, it wasn’t a significant problem. This response felt like an attempt to invalidate my concerns rather than address them constructively. By 11 PM, the official happy hour time per the menu, we chose to leave, feeling undervalued and disappointed. It’s disheartening to see a place I once held in high regard display such disregard for customer experience and feedback. I hope Gran Torino takes this feedback seriously and implements necessary changes to ensure future patrons are treated with the respect and transparency they deserve.
