Opinions de Setagaya Brooklyn
Was looking for a spot to eat in Williamsburg and ended up at Nan Xiang Express, which turned out to be exactly what we needed. It’s a faster, more casual spin on the original Nan Xiang, so you still get those familiar flavors without the long wait or full sit-down experience. If you’ve been to the original, you can definitely feel the connection here same roots, just more streamlined. The space is small and cozy with a relaxed neighborhood feel. Service is quick, and the whole setup is very efficient. It’s self-service, so you grab your own water and clear your table when you’re done, which keeps things moving and fits the express concept well. We ordered a mix of dishes and everything came out fast and tasted really good. The crab meat and pork soup dumplings were flavorful and comforting, with a savory broth made from collagen-rich pork stock that melts into soup when steamed. The filling had ground pork, crab meat, and ginger, giving it a nice balance of richness and subtle sweetness without feeling greasy. The spicy beef soup dumplings had a deeper, bolder flavor. The beef filling was well seasoned, with garlic, soy sauce, and chili adding warmth rather than overwhelming heat. Still juicy, still comforting, just with a little extra kick. The chicken fried rice was simple and satisfying. Made with fluffy rice, egg, chicken, and light seasoning, it was clean, comforting, and exactly what you want alongside richer dishes. We also tried the pork and sticky rice siumai, which felt heartier than typical shumai. The sticky rice added a chewy texture, and the pork filling was savory and filling without being heavy. For drinks, the hot soy milk was smooth and lightly sweet, very classic and comforting with the meal. The grape and lime tea was refreshing and bright, with a slight tang that helped cut through the richness of the dumplings. Overall they deliver good food, fast service, and a cozy, casual experience. Simple, comforting, and efficient a solid spot when you want good dumplings without the wait.
A pretty good soup dumpling with pretty thick skin and mild seasoning. I got the beef one and its not that spicy! Which is nice and you can always add more spice using their chili oils. They offer free infused water too. The sitting available are plenty.
The beef noodle soup was really delicious — the beef was generous and came in big, tender chunks, which I loved. The broth was rich and comforting. The only small downside was that the noodles were a bit too soft, as if they were cooked a little too long. The staff at the front desk were very friendly and welcoming, always smiling, which made the experience even better. I would definitely come back again.
The restaurant's ambiance and decor are truly inviting, providing a pleasant setting for a meal. Every dish presented was prepared with great care, showcasing fresh ingredients and delightful flavors. The presentation of each plate was artistic and added to the overall dining experience. The automated vendor option provided a convenient and efficient way to order. Overall, the restaurant offered a well-rounded and enjoyable experience.
Got the pork soup dumplings, cabbage shrimp pork dumplings, rice cake, and beef stir fry noodles. The cabbage shrimp pork dumplings were unexpected a favorite over the soup dumplings. The noodles were a bit salty but hit the spot. I enjoyed the soy milk which is hard to find!
Nan Xiang Express: Dumplings That Deliver Nan Xiang Express is a fantastic stop for anyone craving authentic and delicious Shanghainese cuisine, but their dumplings are the true star of the show. Specifically, their famous soup dumplings (xiao long bao) are a must-try. The delicate, thin wrappers manage to perfectly encase a savory filling and a burst of flavorful, piping-hot broth—a truly satisfying bite. Beyond the signature soup dumplings, their other varieties like the pan-fried pork dumplings are equally excellent, offering a crispy bottom and a tender, juicy filling. The quality, freshness, and authentic taste make Nan Xiang Express a top-tier choice for dumpling lovers. While the "Express" format means it’s fast and convenient, the rich flavors certainly don't feel rushed. It's a taste experience that will absolutely have you planning your next order.
I did not expect the wonton to be that delicious. The soup dumplings too, OMG i’m so impressed. Such a great restaurant, everything tasted so good. I’m traveling new york but I would come back just for these dumplings.
This is a great dumpling shop with about 6 4-top tables and a small but very nice back outdoor area with some seating. You can order directly from staff or via a touch kiosk. We got most of their menu when we went. The hot and sour soup is good on the sour side with a nice amount of acid but could be a bit more spicy and have more mushrooms in it. The hot sauce on the table is Szechuan pepper based and has a fair amount of mala so be warned. The scallion pancake was pretty good and comes with hoisin sauce to dip it in, came out super hot and crispy but could have used a few more scallions to better hit on the onion flavor. Finally the soup dumplings: we tried every type and all were amazing, they come out steaming and hit but not so hit you can not actually eat them right away, great flavor on the pork, beef and pork+crab. Overall this was an amazing little spot for lunch
Beautiful braised beef noodle soup and drinks!!! Super tasty dish and it's always my favourite Chinese dish for a hearty meal ♥️ Thank you so much ~ friendly service and easy to find on Google Maps. 🙂
These dumplings are absolutely fantastic, especially the spicy dumplings served with peanut sauce! Each bite is bursting with flavor, and the spicy kick perfectly complements the savory filling. The prices are reasonable too, making it an excellent spot to enjoy delicious, high-quality dumplings without breaking the bank. If you're looking for a satisfying and flavorful dumpling experience, this is definitely the place to go!
Classic 小笼包 (soup dumplings) with authentic dipping chilli oil condiments! Such a comforting meal so far away from home.
So glad they opened a location in Williamsburg. Food is delicious and reasonably priced. The shrimp wontons in spicy peanut sauce are one of my favorite dishes to get anywhere and I crave it. The soup dumplings are just OK, I think something is lost when they aren’t made on site but if you need to scratch that itch it will do the trick otherwise go somewhere in Chinatown. They are open until 2am and there’s no waiters just order at the counter. It’s right off Bedford ave and Grand st. So good! Get it!
Saw this while walking around and it was soooo delicious. Easy to order and quick to get. The crab + pork soup dumplings were so good. 10/10!
Had a great experience at Nan Xiang Express in Williamsburg! We ordered the chicken stir-fry and scallion pancakes, and both were fantastic. The chicken stir-fry was flavorful, with tender chicken and perfectly cooked vegetables, all coated in a delicious sauce. The scallion pancakes were crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and had just the right amount of oniony flavor. The service was quick, and the staff was friendly. Definitely a great spot for a casual and satisfying meal—will be coming back to try more!
Amazing dumplings and siu mai! Cant go wrong. Great and quick service!
New to NYC. Here for a work contract so I’m trying food in the area. This place was delicious! All of the food was excellent and the staff were so efficient and kind. I’ll be coming back here again so I can try everything on the menu. Thank you!
I have tried many many ramen places in Brooklyn. I would say that this is by far the best Ramen spot in Brooklyn. Of special note is their vegan Ramens - from the very well seasoned and rich broth to the roasted vegetables, the vegan ramens are thoughtfully and thoroughly prepared. I look forward to trying all the other ramens at this place. Very pleasantly surprised.
One of the best cozy dinner spots in the area. The Tonkotsu broth is stupendous, full of flavor and feel good. It’s a classic ramen style with less added oil and extra flavors than other spots. I commend the buns here, especially the shrimp tempura. Delicate, delish, and a perfect savory appetizer before a nourishing bowl of ramen. This place has decent 2/ 4 table seating and a good amount of space in between, making for a comfier atmosphere but still oriented to be a quicker sit. The service is attentive and quick.
Why fly to Japan when we have this on Bedford avenue? Great food at reasonable prices. Get the karage chicken. Cute spot with a lot of regulars. Reasonably priced beers too.
It’s a great staple ramen spot. Always busy, but never a line. Very friendly staff with good portions at a good price. I get an app and ramen and can leave without still being hungry. Everything tastes good.
this may be my new favorite restaurant. everything from the atmosphere, the service, and most importantly, the food, were top notch i don't think i've had ramen this good. the broth in the shoyu tonkotsu was simply out of this world the portion sizes are more than fair for the price (especially with the lunch special deals) i will 10000% be coming back. thank you for a great lunch.
I discovered this ramen place purely by chance, but after my first visit, it instantly became my go-to spot for ramen. I’m a noodle lover, always on the hunt for that perfect bowl, and this place blew me away in every possible way. The noodles were outstanding — perfectly chewy with a depth of flavor that made each bite feel special. My wife, who’s had authentic ramen in Tokyo, even said it reminded her of the noodles she’d enjoyed there, which is a high compliment in itself. We ordered both the Tsukemen and the Miso Ramen. The Tsukemen, in particular, was a standout. I can honestly say it’s the best ramen I’ve ever had in my life. The broth was rich and flavorful without being overwhelming, and dipping the noodles in it was a joy — the flavors were perfectly balanced. The Miso Ramen was equally delicious, with a comforting, savory broth that had just the right hint of sweetness. Every element, from the broth to the toppings, was well thought out and perfectly executed. Beyond the incredible food, the service was exceptional. The staff were attentive, friendly, and genuinely enthusiastic about their food, which added a welcoming touch to the whole experience. It’s rare to find a place where both the food and service shine so brightly, and this ramen shop has both in spades. In short, this is more than just a meal — it’s an experience that leaves you craving for more. Whether you’re a hardcore ramen enthusiast or simply looking for a memorable meal, I can’t recommend this place enough. I’ve found my ramen home, and I’ll be back again and again to relive this delicious experience.
Setagaya is a hidden gem in Williamsburg. If you like ramen, you will not wanna miss it. I found it randomly and was so surprised by the ramen quality and the cozy environment. The restaurant is not big and there are around ten tables for dining in. The server is gentle and nice and would cover every detail during the serving. She was so experienced and as if knew everything you needed while having the ramen. This restaurant doesn't provide dessert if I correctly remember. I ordered Chashu ramen, dipping ramen, tofu salad, and avocado salad. Chashu ramen contains mushrooms which makes the broth super tasty and fresh. Dipping ramen is amazing with its rich and tasty dipping broth. Every noodle will be covered by the dipping broth and becomes very yummy and in a rich flavor. One bowl with a salad is a very recommended combo I would like to mention. If you don't like salad, a draft beer can be a perfect alternative. Cold Tofu salad is very refreshing, and the side of pickled cucumber is impressive. It balances the taste and flavor so well. Avocado Salad is 10/10 for me. The lettuce and avocado combined with Japanese salad sauce are so fresh and increase my appetizer a lot.
I stopped by this place for a quick solo dinner. It’s a well-known Chinese eatery famous for its soup dumplings, with multiple locations around New York City. I’ve been to their original spot in Flushing before, and this one in Williamsburg feels like a smaller satellite version — cozy but not ideal for large groups. Since it’s mostly self-service, you order from a screen inside, take a seat, and they bring your food to the table. I ordered a bowl of pork and shrimp wonton soup and their signature pork and leek soup dumplings (the green ones). I’ve had these dumplings at their Flushing location before, and they’ve always been excellent — flavorful, juicy, and perfectly steamed. At this location, though, they were still good but not quite as impressive as the original. The wonton soup was decent, but nothing special. The standout here is definitely their in-house chili oil — super spicy, aromatic, and full of flavor. If you visit, don’t skip it. Overall, a solid stop for dumpling lovers, though the Flushing branch still reigns supreme.
Food is amazing! The cucumber salad is to die for. So fresh and flavorful! Would come back just for the cucumbers. The soup dumplings are pretty good too, each bite exploding with hot pork soup. It’s a self service place and food comes out quickly. It’s a small cozy restaurant, limited seating.
Signature soup dumplings were great! Not a fan of the beef ones, has a weird taste and didn’t seem fresh. I’d come back for the other ones though 😊 Guy at the register can be more friendly and communicate more kindly.
Very good ramen that was perfect on a cold day. They specialize in tonkotsu, so I got the spicy tonkotsu and was very happy. Their stir fried mushrooms and kale was also very good. However, their vegan tantanmen was a bit off. It tasted like they used tahini in the sauce instead of roasted sesame paste. Service was friendly, and prices were reasonable. I'd come back.
I ordered the vegan shoyumen and didn’t love it. It was just broth and noodles with some seared veggies on top, not what I expect from ramen. But I tried some of the miso ramen and all star my friends got which were excellent. I’ll definitely come back but will try another veg ramen. The seared edamame and veggie gyoza apps were good as well. Nice happy hour for drinks ($5 beer, cheap wine)
Food was served on a water damaged tray. Hate leaving negative reviews but this tray should not have been given to a customer. I thought the dumplings were average but was grossed by the tray and would not come back or recommend.
Their Tsukemen is not really tsukemen. The broth was much too thin and didn’t have the depth of flavor you’d want. Really disappointing. The tako wasabi was delicious but should come with seaweed, rather than an add-on. Still a value order! The karaage was very tasty; not crispy but very good, and the side salad is great.
We ordered fried edamame, tuna poke, the black garlic ramen and one of the veggie ramen with cashews. The food was very mediocre. Everything lacked flavor. But the service was amazing and we got everything really fast. Will not be coming back, I’ve had SO much better ramen other places.
