Opinions de Simple Cafe Brooklyn
Quality ingredients and a really chill atmosphere, this was a delightful surprise for my lunch break. I saw catfish vermicelli listed on the menu and I knew I had to go in and give it a shot. Would have appreciated a slightly bigger portion but the flavor made up for it in spades. Prices are fitting for the area; a bit too high to go often, but good enough I'll definitely be back.
Amazing food, atmosphere, and every time you come here you’re transported to an intimate dining experience. Samia, the owner, has made her restaurant a place where you will feel like you’re in southern France in the middle of Williamsburg.
I had a great time at Simple Cafe! Everything was so delicious. We took three different dishes and all was so yummy! The host is so adorable and nice. I really loved the place, definitely getting back here!
Most delicious food I have ever eaten, Algerian tadjine is so delicious
Amazing, cozy, and heartwarming French-Algerian cafe in the heart of Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Celebrated the birthdays of 2 friends here and we all thoroughly enjoyed it. Would come back if in the area. I appreciate and respect Samia for all the hospitality.
Excellent food and great location. The owner took time to talk to us and give us wine recommendations based on our preferences. I highly recommend starting with some babaganoush, it was so creamy and paired well with the homemade bread. The inside is nicely decorated with local art and there is also some outside seating, perfect for sipping some wine on a summer evening.
I definitely enjoyed my meal at simple. Went in on a Saturday and immediately got a table. Service was great. Music actually added to the experience, which doesn't always happen. This plane nailed the healthy comfort food thing. I got the simple poached eggs that were light and airy but filling. I was pleasantly surprised that my meal came with a decent side salad. Veggies were fresh and the dressing had the air of a citrus vinegar eternity. I don't even love dressings but I enjoyed this one. Also had the chance to try the fried egg. Perfectly fluffy and a solid portion. While there is an all you can eat brunch buffet option, there are not bottomless drinks available which was disappointing. The bloody Mary was solid. Not too spicy but lots of flavor. Could have used more garnish. But that's honestly nit picking. Overall I had a very satisfying experience. I would definitely recommend this place and will be back for more tasty foodstuffs.
I wish I could give this 6 stars! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Absolutely delicious from the dips and homemade bread to the entrees. The owner was so helpful with suggestions and so fun to chat with. Her recommendations were parfait 🤩 I would trust her with my life after this delicious meal. The decor was also incredible. Love the artwork from local artist!!
The most delicious food and wine! The chef is lovely and makes the atmosphere feel so welcoming.
The service seems to get a bad rep, but we had no problems at our brunch today. Good deal on the buffet with quality choices like ham, cheese, yogurt, croissants, potatoes and bacon, plus a serving of scrambled eggs made to order. We lingered a long time after finishing our food and did not feel rushed out. Very European in its vibe and approach. I will say the coffee is a bit overpriced considering you can go to good nearby coffee shops and get the same for less, but for the atmosphere and great people watching, it was worth it.
Omg such delicious food, such delicious guava mimosa, such amazing service and vibe. Not busy for brunch but it should be. They make their eggs properly (not overcooked) and the lamb sausage is OMG. I am rarely inspired to write Google reviews but here I am.
I love Simple Cafe! The food options are plentiful, high quality, and delicious. I always have a difficult time choosing what to have! We have eaten here many times and its always consistent, which I appreciate. The staff is helpful, friendly, and accommodating. They also have an amazing mango mimosa! Check out their cute little shop before you leave!
love this spot! serving authentic food from the Maghreb. the vegetables in the tagine were perfectly seasoned and caramelized. also the gift shop is perfectly curated, full of locally crafted goods and creative vintage home decor. 100% recommend!
I’ve tried brunch at just about every hot spot in Brooklyn & Williamsburg. This place slaps so hard you’ll never want to leave. So nestle in with an order of steak & eggs with a side bottle of Prosecco, you’ve earned it.
I can’t believe it took me so long to discover Simple. It’s a gem. Once you’re used to Samy’s food, it’s hard to eat any where else. She goes to the market every week and hand picks the best ingredients - everything here is local and or organic, and you can tell. She makes her own bread. I’ve become a regular and found my village here.
I looove this place, the best vibe. The owner is always there, she is very cool and seems to have the best relationship with her customers. The food was delicious, the music great, everything very tasteful. It became my favorite neighborhood dinner out.
My partner and I love this local spot. 5/5 in all categories! We moved to New York a little over 2 years ago and didn't really know about the spot until we moved nearby. It is actually my dream cafe. The food is excellent. My favorites for brunch are the Algerian crepes and the breakfast sandwich with potatoes. And for dinner there is so much, but I keep going back to the lamb bereque and vegetarian cous cous. Oh and don't sleep on the chocolate cake - it is so light and still rich! On top of the food, I love the intimacy of the space, the design, and the fact that it is so clearly a business run with love by a small team. Whether you come here for a coffee or a celebration, the team at Simple is going to take great care of you!
A charming, quiet stop for truly delicious and simply prepared dishes. All of our food was fresh and bright and even the burger was unique and attractively prepared. Their outdoor seating is great for people watching and the interior seating is warm and cozy. Only catch is the price point. Our lunch of two iced teas, beet carpaccio salad, a cheeseburger and tchoutchouka was $94 before tip. So make sure it’s pay day if you want come here and imbibe on their delicious cocktails plus tasty dishes.
First time eating Algerian food, I love it!. Very tasty. The atmosphere was absolutely amazing, and everyone was so nice. I highly recommend this place, and thank you so much for introducing me to a new food.
Great food. They used to have a brunch buffet that was out of this world. I miss it! Haven't been back much since it stopped, but it's a nice place to go with some friends or a date (and especially so if you love fresh bread).
Love it here! Everyone is so nice and attentive, not to mention the food & coffee is very good. Personal favs are the kale salad with salmon and the lemon ricotta pancakes😋
My new favorite spot. I went today and the service was amazing. I had the lamb tagine and their chicken supreme, everything was so good. Definitely, I’m cooking back.
Walked in for lunch by myself on a whim and it was the best decision I made all day. The food was excellent and I'll certainly be back to try more of the menu. Thanks for having me!
This adorable Cafe will have you floating on air. It was very clean and the decor warm and bogo. The service was amazing and you never feel rushed. The food was amazing and fresh. The orange juice is freshly squeezed. My daughter had the croissant which was perfectly made. I had the goat cheese scrambled with bacon sandwich with avocado on the side and it also came with potatoes au gratin which was amazing. I will definitely come back again!!! The cooks are amazing, service and food top notch 9 out of 10. Parking isn't great in the area so come early.
This is the most underrated restaurant in Williamsburg. Relaxed, cozy, welcoming ambiance. Extremely professional/efficient staff, and some of the highest-quality, most delicious food out there. Keep it simple.
I LOVED this place, it’s one of the most amazing places that I’ve been able to eat, the hamburger that I ate was SPECTACULAR, and I’m such a picky eater, so it surpassed every expectation that I had, the best part was finishing my evening with a delicious red wine, as a wine lover I gotta say that it was really amazing, and I enjoyed it so much, it’s a 5/5 for me
I love Simple. The chef and owner is so skilled in the kitchen. Everything she makes comes out like the most delicious dish ever! She’s also incredibly friendly. So in terms of both service and food- I’d highly recommend you try eating here: brunch or dinner - both fantastic memorable experiences! Go to Simple!
5/5 and I’m happy to say it. Went for: low key brunch with GF. Food: Steak and eggs - healthy portion! Steak was cooked to point and marinated flavors were spectacular. Potato side was a pleasant surprise. Haveayner (sp?) Sandwich + Bacon: awesome!! Bread was perfect and flavors of egg, bacon, and avocado blended perfectly. Side salad was the right move. Bloody Mary’s: excellent. Nothing crazy, very classic. Only has one type of Vodka. But it was great.
Honestly, Simple exceeded my expectations. I expected to pop into a basic eatery with minimalist decor with matching dining selections. What I got instead was a Mesopotamia retreat filled with the freshest, delicious EVERTHING! Reservations are a must. Be prepared to be served by the Chef/owner in the flesh, and stop by the shop on the way out. For an extra vibe: wear warm or neutral, earthy colors for great pics.
The Simple Poached w saffron is delish. Oat skim latte yum, subtly like nothing I’ve ever had before.
Most underrated restaurant in Williamsburg! The owner Samy is the sweetest and most wonderful owner - she makes everyone feel like family when you walk in! Also, the food is amazing!!! Simple burger is my fave. Portion sizes are perfect, meals are really unique, healthy, and delicious. Oh, and the environment is laidback and relaxing. I can’t recommend this spot enough!
This place is stunning, delicious and one of a kind. I used to live in Williamsburg and fell in love with the brunch a king time ago. Every detail is prefect. We had the kale salad, quinoa, and Tchoutchouka, cookies, and a perfect mint tea. This bottle of orange wine was outstanding. The store has amazing hand made candles, beautiful Moroccan rugs, jewelry and more. I truly think after 8 years in New York it was one of the best brunches I’ve ever had ☺️😩. Thank you @simplecafe for the attention to detail and love you put in your service.
Very cool place. We just got a coffee, but the food looked very tempting.
One of our go to spots in the neighborhood, it’s consistently very good and their coffee comes in these clay mugs that make it taste amazing. Haven’t had a bad meal here and always recommend to people looking for a delicious meal in a good atmosphere. Staff is particularly friendly.
One of my top dining experiences in Brooklyn! Highly recommend the muscles & the chicken cutlet is to die for. Amazing staff and super great vibe, we weren’t rushed in away way. I will absolutely be going back!
Delicious food and kind service, with a vibe. My kinda place. Looking forward to my next visit.
Nice neighborhood place for Sunday brunch. The freshly baked bread was really fluffy and crusty and paired well with the dip sampler and the Algerian shakshouka. The pancakes were also delightful, topped with ricotta, berries, figs, and fresh mint. We also had a flaky, buttery croissant with coffee that tasted very fresh!
We came for dinner and had the lamb sausage and the vegan Berbere Tagine. The food was delicious and was served with couscous. The wine menu is overseeable, but there are good red and orange wine options available. The place is cosy, and the service is very attentive. Overall a cute spot, and we plan to return for brunch soon.
The owner should change the name from Simple to Simply Delicious, because that's exactly what it was. Our meals we're very well seasoned and flavorful. Service was excellent. The owner was very attentive to everyone's needs and desires. The ambiance was very cozy and the music playlist was on point (French Hip Hop). We had no complaints whatsoever. Will definitely be going back again. 👌🏾
Went to Simple during my New York city trip this October. Amazing food and mood here. Had a great time. As a frenchie, I recommend !
Cozy spot with great service! The waitress went out of her way to make us feel welcome. Had the onion soup, fried halloumi, and berbere tagine— all super hearty and delicious. Would def come back!
Simple is a wonderful Algerian-French fusion. It caters to a very sophisticated palate and invites one to savor the moment in order to truly appreciate the detailed flavors. My only suggestion would be to add a small side to the main entrée, such as lamb chops, and to increase the portion size of the appetizers. Even so, I still give it 5 stars for an amazing gastronomic experience.
Favorite restaurant in Williamsburg. A bit off the beaten path on the more authentic Southside, this is an excellent chill choice for friends and lovers who want to actually talk with each other. The food is excellent and made with love. The owner and servers care about what they do and it shows. The best spot to sip vino outside and people watch in summer! My favorite menu items are the steak frittes, mussels, and chicken tagine - although I often go for the burger as well.
Simple Café is such a special place. It’s been around for 20 years and still feels just as warm and welcoming as ever. I’ve been coming here for breakfast, lunch, and dinner over the years—it's the kind of spot that feels like home. Most recently, I had the chicken supreme (incredible!) but started with the babaganoush, which I honestly think is the best in NYC. I couldn’t finish it all, packed up the rest, and the next day it made my salad taste amazing. If you’re a local, you probably already know Simple is special. And if you’re visiting, I hope you get to experience the care and charm this place brings—not just in the food, but in every detail and every interaction.
I went for breakfast with my best friend and I have to say it's amazing! Very cozy place, service fast and kind and oh boy the food delicious!! We ordered scrambled eggs with bacon and pancakes lemon and ricotta. The pancakes the best of my life. Usually they're heavy and buttery, these were light and scenty 😍 we wanna talk about the cups? Super cute! Thank you guys! 🌟
Baba ganoush was delicious and Smokey. The teeny hummus was excellent and their homemade sourdough bread that went with it was very nice and moist. The salads and burger and fries were also enjoyed at the table. It's a limited menu but nice choices. Somewhat smaller space but it does get quite noisy in there as the conversation bounces all over the hardscapes. There's also a very cozy store attached that has nice rugs, pottery and other handmade goods
Did you know that you can get delicious Algerian food at @simplecafebrooklyn in Williamsburg, Brooklyn!? The cafe is super cute and minimalist with an airy, natural vibe. The tchoutchouka I had was surprisingly light and refreshing. Different from what I was expecting. It went so well with the bread. I loved the crepes! The texture is so light and airy and the dates, apricots, and honey added just the right amount of sweetness to it. I’m also obsessed with Algerian mint tea. I like my tea without sugar and it was such a nice closure to the meal. I felt comfortably full afterwards after eating a variety of food. They also have a small shop attached that sells nice home goods! Loved the experience 💕
The Simple cafe was phenomenal! Right off of the Williamsburg bridge, my friend, and I came across this very cute French Albanian cafe. Since it was quite cold, the day we visited we immediately got a cup of their fresh mint tea. It was a perfect touch to a cold afternoon. I ordered the beet salad and my friend, and I shared the trio of hummus, baba ghanoush, fresh red pepper dip, carrots and fresh bread. I would definitely visit here again. I love the atmosphere. It has big open windows, natural light pouring in and there is a lovely cute store. That also sells handmade goods. Definitely give this place a try.
Delicious food! Lovely vibe and hospitable staff. Between the beautiful decor and decadent flavors, Simple transports you to a place that feels like a mix of vacation and home. All of the bread is baked fresh and you can totally tell. I've never enjoyed a burger bun so much. I topped the Simple burger with brie cheese and the flavor combination was heavenly. The fries were crispy and flavorful! 11/10 would recommend Simple for a tasty meal and delightful experience 😊 Thank you!
A little gem in Brooklyn. The name speaks for itself. Simple yet à totale escape! We were there for brunch and the food was divine. The baked eggs were amazing. The French toast was magical. Everything was fresh and tasty and we all loved the different dishes we ordered. The staff was extremely nice and attentive. The only downside is the size of the establishment, it is very small so it's safer to book if you're a group of 4+. I really like the owner's little boutique at the entrance. Cherry on the cake, you feel like you just left to Algeria for a moment. I definitely recommend and will go back to try the rest of the menu!
Nice ambiance, decor and good brunch. Quite full but not too busy. The $16 brunch buffet was delicious and v good value. However, the service was not very friendly - our waitress didn't say hello or much else really. I also asked for eggs well cooked and they weren't. We will come back for the good food in a nice setting though.
Foos was fantastic, ambiance is cozy and and the owner is cool. I enjoyed the experience very much and actually had a tough time deciding what to pick...which is a great problem for restaurant. My boys and wife also equally enjoyed themselves. Must return and have a few other dishes that caught the eye...
Cute little gem in Williamsburg. The owner is lovely. A restaurant/cafe and a small gift shop. Kale salad and steak was my fav! The tagine was good but the chef mistakenly made a vegetarian version instead of the chicken. They took it back to add chicken but it came out tasting weird (overcooked and slightly sandy in texture). Tasted much better when it firs came out.
.. the place was a vibe. It was calm and relaxing and I food the food exceptional. It was nicely presented and served fresh and hot. I’d def eat here again. The waitress was also very polite and warm in her mannerisms throughout. side note: the bacon was one of the finest pieces of bacon I’d ever eaten. It was crunchy and savory🤤
I had high hopes for this spot based on the reviews, but the food left a lot to be desired. Dare I say it, I found it extremely bland when visiting here for lunch. The Algerian crepes were probably my favorite thing we ordered, but the rest of our meal was forgettable. Small portions too, and slow service even though there was maybe one other table sitting there.
The food was great! Delicious and flavorful. The service however, SUCKED!!! The woman was non-attentive, didn't introduce herself, when she got to the table she just said "Are you ready?", No type of "How are you" or anything. She was super sweet and smiled a lot at my boyfriend but brushed me off several times. She never brought my drink but brought his and even offered him a REFILL. I was so disappointed. Especially because the server next to us was very nice, attentive, and on top of his tables. Wish we would have gotten him.
Got the Borek and the Burger. I was really excited to try this restaurant based on the promising pictures. The Boreks were good but nothing extraordinary and a little bit dry. The burger was ok - the meat was tasty, but the bread was hard. My friends got the couscous and the portions were small. Overall, I felt like they were good and bad things - but, not as exciting as the pictures - I was ready for a tastier food experience.
Very cute place, good service. The food was decent. I had the Tchoutchouka eggs but for the price I would have wanted two eggs and not overcooked (the yolk was hard)... Also the bread and coffee should be better.
We recently visited this place the food was fine ! I especially liked the sauced beets with labneh. We ordered a steak, but it was kind of chewy. The waitress was cute, but honestly, the service wasn’t great — we had to wait quite a while to be seated, took a bit time to bring our food . It was also pretty cold inside because all the windows were open. But I liked the atmosphere stylish and cozy.
we came for brunch and were really excited to try french-Algerian food, but we were really disappointed by the dishes we tried. a lot of us got the steak frites, and we all felt that the steak was lacking flavor/needed more salt and the fries were soggy. similarly, people who got the burger felt the same way that it was under seasoned. With french food, it doesn’t necessarily need a lot of different seasonings, but that means the quality of the ingredients need to shine, which we didn’t feel was the case.
Need better bread and napkins and the food could use a little bit more improving for the price they charge but then again it’s a trending neighborhood
We ordered mussels and it was one of the best I've had. The broth was thick and rich. On the other hand, two of us had the Tagine Zitoune was disappointing. It came with a whopping three olives and no hint of lemon taste, contrary to pictures posted in reviews where I see at least 5 or 6 olives. It barely had any broth and it was bland as well. My partner ordered the lamb couscous but the written menu had no indication that it was Merguez. I see the online menu makes it clear. Maybe it's time to update the menu. This was a personal recommendation but the recommender had last eaten here a year ago. Things have changed and if my experience is any indication, then the restaurant's food quality is inconsistent at best. I do not recommend.
unfortunately have to update my previous review because my experience was so poor this time around. i come here fairly often as it was one of my favorite brunch spots in brooklyn and I recommend it to people anytime they ask for a brunch spot. however, the quality and flavor of the food has gone down severely - I normally LOVE everything from here so this is an honest review of what has been a favorite of mine for almost 3 years. eggs were wayyyy too salty (almost inedible), potato gratin was cold, cumin fries had zero flavor and tasted and looked like they were fried in old oil, and presentation was just messy. tried my friends’ dishes too and again, either flavorless or way to salty. tried to finish as much of it as possible since we all paid $37 each but left feeling unfulfilled and dissatisfied. not sure what happened in just a few months since I last came, but so sad about this :( — OLD REVIEW: favorite brunch spot in the city with a refreshing selection of dishes and flavors. the space is beautiful and service has always been wonderful.
Just tried this place for the first time. The food is mediocre and took forever to come. But the service was the worst ever. The servers were rude and made everything I asked for seem like a hassle. No offer of water and to get anything, I had to get up from my seat and go to a server directly to ask. I definitely won't be going back.
The food was the best part about Simple Cafe. The pancakes were good as well as the French toast and Fruit. The service was terrible. I had to get up 3 times to ask for things again we already asked her for (missing utensils, straws & napkins). Wouldn't mind if she forgot, but her attitude was dismissive, not forgetful. There's even a shop in the cafe with goods you CAN purchase (you can see a price tag in 1 photo on the towels). We did take pictures, but I wanted to buy a cologne from them. She came to the door and I thought maybe it was to ask us if we wanted to purchase. Instead, she told us, quote, "You guys have to leave. This is for customers only". So, we left and won't be back.
If I could I would give 0 stars. That is a $5 coffee lol. I am from Europe and this coffee is the farthest thing from France. Server didn’t let my daughter use the restroom until I ordered their overpriced coffee. Never again stay away from these hustlers. The coffee was bland and flavorless… and they don’t even give you a top. This restaurant is only good for restrooms.
I ordered French toast, and I literally got pancakes dipped in syrup, it was so bad I had to throw it out. First of all it wad brunt and 2nd of all how do you give a pancake and just call it French toast. The decoration was amazing no complains on that but the taste was extremely bad. The inside was so blend no taste whatsoever. I usually never give one star but this was literally my worst experience. I personally hate wasting food but with this one I had no other choice but to throw it out. I thought this spot was known for their French toast thus I wanted to stop by and see what was the hype was about. Probably, never coming back again. Wouldn't even recommend it to my worst enemy.
tried simple today + honestly left annoyed. $24 for a chicken cutlet that was way overly fried, improperly salted, and served completely plain — no sides, no garnish, just a sad little wedge of lemon. it tasted greasy, harsh, + borderline gross. felt like something i could have done better at home with frozen chicken patty. i know it’s a first world problem, but paying that much + leaving with such an unpleasant taste really disappointed me. the restaurant looks nice, but now i get why it was empty. looks aren’t everything. definitely won’t be back. edit: please learn how to take critique gracefully instead of clapping back passive aggressively. not everyone liking your food does not mean there is a lack of respect. also, my just bare chicken patties are actually flavorful, juicy, and enjoyable unlike the dry and greasy chicken supreme i had from you. and yes, obviously it is hand butchered since most chicken is. what is odd is that you justify the plain presentation and high price by blaming food cost. you also seem pretty pressed by criticism, so i will wish you a better mood too.
