Opinions de Somtum Der Brooklyn
This is my favorite Thai restaurant in Brooklyn! There are many reasons to love this place. Most importantly is the food. The papaya salad is my favorite, very flavorful, although, the spiciness varies. Meat dishes are delicious, the chicken and dried beef are very well done. Sticky rice goes perfectly with them. The best thing is the food is great for both dine-in and delivery. The price is not cheap but the food makes it worth the price. The restaurant is quite narrow but it has great seatings indoor and outdoor. Staffs are very attentive and polite. I went at an odd time and did not have issue getting a table.
Decided to get some dinner after watching the sunset on the river. We sat out in the back garden, which was delightful. The staff was so friendly and lovely. The food was absolutely delicious. It had been a very busy holiday weekend, and they were out of many menu items, but everything we got was so fresh and well-seasoned. Would definitely come back to try some other items on the menu.
Coming off a 3 week trip to Thailand, I was depressed that I’d never find food that comes close to the flavors and freshness we experienced there. After a few futile attempts at finding something “close,” we came to Goog with mid expectations. But we were blown away! We had the roti massaman, the khao soi, and the branzino. The roti was sooo good!! The massaman was also amazing, I’m looking forward to trying their chicken massaman on a future visit. While in Thailand we had some Michelin level khao soi, but Goog was pretty much spot on flavor wise!!! We were so happy to find a place so close to home that hits our curry cravings. Finally, the fish. Wow. The flavors were so so good. We washed it down with a Chang, which is a hard beer to find in the states!!! Looking forward to future visits here!!!
I ordered Uber Eats from here. The uber delivery person cancelled 5 minutes before they closed. The staff stayed open for me to come grab my food, and were very understanding. Food was great and I’m sure it would be even better if I dined in.
I went to Goog Thai Cook Shop on Monday, and the food was very authentic—super close to real Thai flavors 🇹🇭✨. The papaya salad was really good and tasted just like the papaya salad you’d get from a small street food cart in Thailand 🥗🔥. One of my favorite dishes was the Isaan sausage—slightly tangy and eaten together with the fresh vegetables on the side, it was excellent 🌭👌. The homemade warm rice ball dessert with coconut cream was also delicious and a perfect way to end the meal 🍡🥥. I also received great service from the energetic and friendly staff 😄👏. Definitely a great spot if you’re looking for authentic Thai food!
Delicious dishes - massaman curry beef, white lotus soup. Portion size was small - almost made me do a 4* but it's more like NYC normal. Friendly staff. Ate outside in front and service was busy and we received a bit less attention but easy enough to flag them down. Overall would give a solid recommendation to go. Fun bathroom photos too
Wow this spot exceeded all expectations. Came here with 3 friends (2 of us NYC locals, 2 out of town) for dinner on a recommendation, and we were blown away. The flavors were complex but not overly done, and there were options ranging from classic Thai street food to elevated and unique dishes. All for a reasonable price! And with great vegetarian options. Will definitely be going back whenever we’re in Red Hook.
Had dinner 6/1/25 and food was a 4.5 since I wanted something I couldn’t get. Not their fault. What I did offer was food but the appetizer wings weren’t very meaty. The Thai railroad fried rice with shrimp was delicious! They have great drink specials for the summer. I loved the searing out back and it was a little oasis to eat dinner. Really enjoyed it and I will be back!
Absolutely amazing Thai food! I tried the Thai sashimi(sooo good!), Nam Pla fried chicken (incredibly juicy!), beef stew (the broth was so tasty), green curry, and pad Thai — and every single dish was outstanding. This is hands down the best Thai cuisine I’ve ever had. I will definitely visit again! The flavors were authentic and perfectly balanced. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a top-notch Thai dining experience!
Went in on a Sunday night. Got the chef's special. It was some kind of beef stew. It was amazing. So much flavor and spice. The outdoor seating was very relaxing and the service was pretty attentive. I was able to try a few different beers that I had never had as well. Highly recommend this place to anyone that likes Thai cuisine.
Random stop and was amazed as to how good it was. Cant believe no one else was here. I understand it is a week day (thursday) and i do not know how it gets Fri/Sat/Sun but this spot should be full of patrons. Authentic Regional Thai flavors. Great service. Amazing experience. Thank you
Incredible selection of authentic and traditional Thai food. Even more immaculate service, our waiter was accommodating and very hospitable. We came here for birthday dinner celebration and we enjoyed the food very much. Definitely get their sum tom (papaya salad), three flavored fish, and Thai sashimi. The mock-tails were also delicious and refreshingly, highly recommend the cranberry sangria. Overall a delightful experience from the food to the hospitality of our waiter. We anticipate to visit again in the near future!
My family and I visited Goog Thai cook shop last year when they just opened the restaurant in April 2024. We made a visit again this weekend since we ran an errand in the neighborhood and were craving for Thai food. I would say the food was very delectable, well balanced in the flavours, but still authentic. We again had shrimp cakes for appetizer, BBQ Namdeang with sticky rice and chicken Khaosoy noodles for the main entrees. Then we finished with pumpkin glutinous rice balls in coconut milk and coconut ice cream for dessert. It was a busy Saturday afternoon, but the staffs handled their service pretty well. The decoration and atmosphere is also cozy and welcoming. Highly recommend if you are in Red Hook neighborhood. I would definitely return to this place again.
Highly recommend this place! The Goodness Citrus (cocktail) is delicious! I ordered the Kua Kling, please note this is not a curry, but it is excellent, very tasty and good portion. My partner ordered the signature green curry - OMG so delicious! At the end we had for dessert the coconut ice cream + mango pudding.
Rebranded but the food is still amazing. I ordered the shrimp sashimi (which I recommend you mix up before you dig in to distribute the citrus) and green curry, and Citrus Mezcal drink and wow, everything was amazing! Service is great, sat us right away without a reservation and very attentive to upkeeping the cleanliness of our table. Would definitely recommend making the trip out!
I’m from Bangkok and this tastes like home!! We ordered Tom yum shrimp, Lab Kua Nue and wonton quail eggs. Tom yum was perfectly balanced and spicy! The larb is not typical larb that you find in New York, it was more savory and meaty as Northern Thai style. Wonton quail eggs reminded me of classic Thai street food. Would comeback again!
We were in Red Hook for some errands on a busy Sunday afternoon and found Goog Thai after making our way up and down the street. The restaurant itself is very cute and charming and, as I later found out, is a reboot of a former Thai restaurant complete with a new menu. The staff were friendly and welcoming and offered us a choice of sitting inside or in the back patio which looked very lush with plants and umbrella covered seating! It looked like such a cute place to get drinks with a group. We sat inside and the waiter suggested a few cocktails to us which were so tasty (I recommend Bo Bae for all fans of pandan flavor!) We ordered the watermelon salad by recommendation too and it was the best appetizer for a hot day. The food was delicious; all the ingredients were fresh and well seasoned and not too spicy! There was a pleasant spiciness in the sauces that we could adjust to our liking! The dessert was so cute too. I think a lot of the reviews compare the new menu to the previous restaurant but I definitely recommend you give this place a try with an open mind and pick some different menu items than what you normally would go for! And if in doubt I’m sure the staff could recommend some great options for you like they did for us!
What a great Thai restaurant which my friend highly recommended in Red Hook, Brooklyn The food tasted flavorful and savory. We gad a lot of food for dinner and we enjoyed it so much The severs, Adam and Pui, were attentive, friendly and caring of our table professionally Chef Ning cooked and decorated the food very well! (See the pictures that I posted) The atmosphere was vibrant and bustling. Wish we could sit outside ( it's raining while we had dinner ) I would definitely come back and try other dishes Thank you!
We visited this new Thai restaurant on its opening day. The vibe of the place is intimate and cozy. Goog’s approach to Thai cuisine is that it focuses on “comfort dishes” one would normally expect to find in small mom-and-pop restaurants that exist all over Thailand. The lengthy menu is impressive. While the portion in general is on the small side, the prices are very good (to that end, this restaurant is great for sharing many dishes with friends.) We ended up ordering 7-8 dishes, and we were very happy with everything we got. Everything tasted great and authentic. Laab mushroom on skewers was my personal favorite. The Pad Thai came with a huge prawn and tasted just like the Pad Thai I had in Thailand. The only dish that could improve was the Massaman Curry with Roti as the curry was a tad bit sweet for my taste. We didn’t get to try any cocktail drinks as we were there for lunch, but we will certainly return to try them (Goog advertises that the cocktails were specially designed by a celebrity cocktail connoisseur from Thailand.) The staff were very friendly and attentive although it’s obvious that they still have a few kinks to work out (this was their first day after all). All in all, Goog is a great Thai restaurant, and we’ll definitely be coming back!
First off, I dislike writing bad reviews but my experience at Goog was terrible, I really hope management reads this. Part of it was probably due to the fact that it became busy a little after we arrived but that shouldn’t be an excuse - you should plan for situations like this. Plain and simple, you should bring out all main dishes together, especially in a group. There were 4 of us and the first two main dishes came out initially followed by the third dish 10 minutes later. My dish never arrived after 45 minutes and I was starving. Thankfully I got to eat a bit of everyone else’s food but even their food got cold since they were waiting for mine. When I asked just to cancel my dish after the 45 minutes, they said it was ready to come but they’d still have to charge me (which is fine) and they could box it for me.. Everyone else finished their food by this point and I just wanted to get out. Of course I don’t want to eat by myself or bring it home. I couldn’t even ask for the check because no one was around. I went up to the main hostess (I believe) and I can tell she was overwhelmed so I do apologize for the craziness of having an influx of people. My message to you management is to create some sort of buffer before seating people. If you have only so many cooks or staff, you know people are going to be waiting for a while for their food. It’s unreasonable to put a lack of organization onto your customers. The food was decent (from what I tried from others plates) since I don’t want to just state the negative. I would never recommend this restaurant to anyone that’s coming during some sort of typical meal time, maybe you’ll have better luck if there’s one or two other parties.
