Lovely place, very welcoming even though they weren't quite open yet. Food was brilliant, great value, and looked amazing. Manager is coeliac and so great understanding of GF and loads of options for same. Thoroughly reccomended, the beef and chimichurri wass so good!

Wonderful meal tonight. Everything was so tasty, fresh and full of flavour. The chicken thigh special in particular was amazing. Staff are lovely, service was super quick, and it had a great relaxed atmosphere for a date night or catch up with friends.

What a lovely tapas bar, we have chosen set menu where chef picks cold/hot tapas dishes from the menu for us. Omg, everything, and i mean everything was so aromatic, spicy but not too spicy, full of flavour, beatifully presented. Plus some tasty coctails to go with it. Highly recommended!

WOW We visited today for my birthday and had the set menu which is a case of tell us anything you dislike and we will feed you. A very clever concept of eating a blind menu and what a treat. Every dish packed full of flavour with fresh ingredients presented beautifully. The setting is stunning the service is stunning the food is stunning and for 10 courses each including 4 drinks was a stunning price of £51. This is a hidden gem in a lovely part of the world and blew me away on every level. This is Spanish Tapas at a different level. Thanks to all the staff.

Excellent tapas bar. Warm friendly welcome from the helpful staff. Set menu of 9 dishes, mix of hot and cold. Depends what is fresh and in season and delivered on the day. Good range of wines and beer including Estrella Galicia 0.0 which was pretty good.

Nice authentic style tapas restaurant. No food menus were given, instead only asked if we have any dietary requirements. We were served 6 cold starters and 6 hot main dishes all of which were amazing. We shared some sangria which was amazing and got a dessert each. We will definitely come back here !

I always try to be honest with my reviews. Point out the flaws even if it a small one. But I seriously couldn't find any with this place. The place inside is beautifully and tastefully decorated. The music is chill, not too loud. The waitress we had was polite, knowledgeable and her Spanish was perfect. The food was mind blowing. I'm very fussy but went with an open mind and a willingness to try new things. I was not disappointed. Don't get me wrong, I didn't like everything, but that's personal choice. The food was high quality, high flavour. The drinks we had were delicious (cocktails of course) we could have had dessert but for the first time in a long time, I was beaten. Tapas isn't for everyone, but if you are ever in Dundee in Scotland, this is somewhere you should try. Happy dining

Great tasting food. The chicken salad, honey and cheese were heavenly. Good ambiance and friendly staff. We had a delay with the service due to some system issues, however the staff handled it really well. Would highly recommend.

We were booked in hear for a group of 4 Saturday 6 October 2018. Head line it was fantastic. The restaurant is awesome. We sat upstairs and it's got some cool Quirky decor. The food was fantastic. It's so simple we were asked if we had any special dietary requirements. We got nuts and olives to eat as we decided what drinks we wanted. We got a picture of sangria I ordered the Alhambra beer and later the cruzcampo - I was worried the draft beer would be rubbish as you never know if the beer has been poured much or not. But both beers were great 👍. The food was great, we got hake, prawns, and a load of quality mixed vegetables including asparagus wrapped in ham. The hake was my favourite so well cooked and super tasty. I'm not fond of prawns but these ones were awesome. The alioli was great to. The food was so fresh and vibrant it was put together really well. The staff were awesome professional and managed the floor very well. I can't praise this place enough, I can't believe I've not been before now. This is easily one of my fav restaurants and can't wait to return 👍

Wonderful lunch set menu! Perfect if you just want to be spoilt with the best! Great array of tapas dishes with different meats and seafood. Nice ambiance and great service. Booking is a bit full but reception was nice to suggest other times available.

What an amazing experience! I've been meaning to go here for a while and finally I did yesterday and I was not disappointed at all. Both the food and service was excellent and the ambience was cute showing some pictures of Spanish culture (I was sat downstairs, not sure about upstairs). Since it was our first time, our server (an absolute star) explained the practice of tapas in the restaurant. We were completely open-minded and requested to surprise us. The starters (some roasted nuts and smashing olives) and the sangria we ordered kicked up our appetite. Both the cold and hot tapas were unmistakably delicious and the quantity, to my surprise (I am a foodie), was very much ample. My favourite in the cold tapas was the premium chorizo and coleslaw they served, and of course I can't praise the garlic bread enough coz it was just perfect (note: the basket they serve is meant to be for both hot and cold tapas, but we got excited and finished the bread in the first course itself. Unfortunately, they didn't have enough bread to serve us for the second time, so be mindful of this if you're a bread lover). The hot tapas when they served, my eyes were stuck on the sizzling prawns which was served in a claypot and it tasted out of the world. The only small thing I found quite faulty was the chicken in the skewer, they were dry and overcooked, so it was hard to eat. But the stew helped me to gobble them up. They had different desserts, but we were so stuffed, so didn't get the chance to taste them. But I will have this as an excuse to visit again. Overall, highly recommended in dundee and its not pricey at all.

This is the second time we've been here and it absolutely lived up to expectations once more! If you like a set menu, love Spanish food, and enjoy quirky decor this is the place for you! It's reasonably priced too considering the quality of the ingredients! And I can totally recommend the Sangria! Highly recommend!

The place was great, the staff were very attentive and explained what every item was once it was brought out, nothing was rushed and were made to feel at home. Great atmosphere at a great price. I will be back. Don't miss out on this gem. Need to book.

Food was lovely, and the server was really nice as well. We had a female waitress (forgot to ask her name) who was really bubbly and (presumably) Spanish because she prounouced everything so authentically when she introduced our cold tapas. Had a good experience, but might ask for a vegetarian version next time as it was really a lot of meat!

Fantastic place and lovely staff. Had a lovely selection of gluten free food and desserts. The staff were very knowledgeable of gluten free and was impressive When I didn't feel very well the manager and staff were very helpful Will definitely recommend to all coeliacs and beyond and will definately going back

Best tapas in Broughty Ferry! Lovely service and both veggie and non veggie options were fab. Recommend the Sangria and lemon posset to finish! Only surprise was the London-level bill but worth it as a special treat!

A unique and cozy tapaz restaurant run by a diligent chef and owner. Amazing set menu of home made tapaz which you probably can't find outside Spain.

Tried the evening menu for the first time, have been for lunch a couple of times. Big selection of dishes and huge portions!! Photographed are mains for two, the price includes starters as well. Everything was really delicious and the service was very friendly. I'm a pescetarian and also gluten free but that wasnt an issue at all. Good value for money!

One word - fantastic! Lovely food; great value - the best Tapas we've ever enjoyed. Loads to eat in friendly surroundings, and really nice staff. I'd highly recommend you visit here...book first to make sure you get a table. And the range of drinks on the bar display is massive!!

Fantastic food but just too much fir us . Would have preferred to have just a few less dishes but that is just personal preference. Fantastic sangria

J
James G.C

I was surprised that they had so many vegan options, my expectations before going were that there would only be bravas and padrón peppers, but I had dinner better than in Spain, even better than in vegan restaurants, the waitresses were very nice and explained all the dishes in great detail And with a smile, I give this restaurant a 10, a 10 for the kitchen and a 10+ for the waitresses.

First time back since the restaurant has changed hands. We booked for a Tuesday and it was half price Tuesday. Yeehaa. The food was great, especially the meat skewers. Around 10 different dishes were served to us. We would recommend especially the Tuesday sitting as it was great value. A few beers and sangria and food all for £48 No photos this visit as we were too busy chatting.

Absolutely delicious Tapas, every single one! And you get plenty. I came here with a friend on Tuesday, when it is half price, and I couldn't believe the amount, quality and variety of Tapas we got served. Amazing value! And the staff are lovely, too. Highly recommended!

Me and my friends had an amazing time at Sol y Sombra last Saturday. The food was great. Unfortunately, the chicken in one of our kebabs was raw. The waiter promptly took this back and provided us with another round of the same dish (we ended up having x2 the amount of kebabs). The waiter then insisted that the meal was *completely free* when come time to pay, due to the raw chicken. This shows they really care about their customer satisfaction and I am thoroughly impressed with the restaurant. We proceeded with as hefty a tip they would accept, of course.

We went fir the tapas experience. You inform the staff of and allergies or dislikes and they bring a selection of dishes that include meat 🍖 and fish 🐟 All were delicious 😋 A great experience.

Went here for my birthday meal and did not disappoint. 5 of us and the staff were amazing. And very friendly. Catered to each different need. Food was amazing full of flavour and plenty of it. My other half took a birthday cake down and the staff brought it out for me. Even kept it till next day for us to pick up. Thank you Kelly for the bottle of Prosecco it was delightful. Highly recommended

50th Birthday celebration here with the tomahawk steak deal. 9 of us thoroughly enjoyed the tasty and well presented food. Everything was demolished. Lol. Absolutely amazing from food to friendly and efficient service from all the staff here. Definitely recommend. Thanx again for the immpecable service we received. X

Lovely place with very friendly staff. The tapas options are great, not too pricy, and nicely portioned. The food was wonderful and there are plenty dairy free and gluten free options

Had a fantastic night bringing in the New Year. We paid £40 per person which included 3 drink tokens, snacks the entertainment:A DJ and live music, an amazing buffet and drink at the bells. The staff were all lovely, a mixed crowd of all ages bringing in the New Year. Would definitely recommend.

Very good food and lots of it. Excellent service, couldn't ask for any more. We both had the vegetarian set menu and it was brilliant.

Food was cooked well and the service was first class. Decor, music and seating arrangement created a nice relaxed atmosphere for a night out. Other two members of our party loved their evening, I did feel that the set menu only format took something away from the tapas experience. For me tapas is all about picking several small dishes of food from the menu and mixing and matching your favourites, enjoying a drink and then ordering some more if you still have room! The set menu format was almost like a tasting menu where you have little control over what food will be served that evening. Cant fault anything, service and food/drink was great and evening was thoroughly enjoyed. Just not convinced by set menu.

Excellent tapas, large portions, superb service. Atmosphere today was a little enclosed, note that there is no exterior view. But if it is in the evening and you are looking for excellent tapas at a reasonable price, do give it a try. We enjoyed the food (and wine) enormously.

Really good meal but asked before served if we like octopus. We both said yes but no octopus was actually served. Other than that it was really good.

Stepping into the restaurant, I was immediately transported to the heart of Spain. The charming Spanish tiles adorning the staircase set the tone for an authentic experience. Comfortable seating and well-appointed tables greeted us, complemented by impeccably clean and rustic-themed restrooms. The ambiance was further elevated by soothing music, perfectly pitched to allow for easy conversation without the need to raise voices. Despite arriving without a reservation in a fully booked establishment, the staff graciously accommodated us and efficiently explained the menu system. Taking into consideration our group's composition, with two children in tow, they suggested a thoughtful approach to ordering, which helped streamline our dining experience. Pricing was reasonable, with a per-person cost of £27.50 due to the late afternoon timing. Following the staff's recommendation, we opted for three meals for our group of five, allowing for potential sharing, particularly with the kids. Our meal commenced promptly, with the cold meze selection arriving swiftly. Each dish was meticulously evaluated: Alioli: A perfect score of 5/5 for its delightful flavor with no room for improvement. Chorizo Iberico de Ballota: While flavorful, the thick slices bordered on chewiness, detracting slightly from the overall enjoyment. 3/5 Ensalada de Pollo: A personal favorite, boasting refreshing flavors that begged to be savored with each bite. 5/5 Queso Manchego: While tasty, the portion size left something to be desired, with only three small triangles of cheese accompanied by olive oil. 3/5 Crab on Cracker: Despite my apprehension toward seafood, this dish pleasantly surprised with its palatable flavors, though lacking a distinctive "seafood" essence. 4/5 Chickpea Something: Initially uncertain, I found myself thoroughly enjoying this dish, with no qualms to report.5/5 Moving on to the hot meze selection: Chicken thighs: A straightforward yet satisfying dish, earning a solid 5/5. Potatoes in sauce: A standout favorite, blending soft potatoes with a tantalizing mix of alioli and spicy sauce. 5/5 Green Stuff with brown stuff: Though initially ambiguous in composition, this dish turned out to be a delightful combination of sprouting broccoli with ham or possibly asparagus, thoroughly enjoyed despite initial reservations. 5/5 Beef Stew: Rich in flavor, with the taste of tomatoes shining through, adding depth to the dish. 5/5 Prawns: Unfortunately, this dish fell short, with rubbery texture detracting from its overall appeal, earning a disappointing 2/5. Fried Hake: While acceptable, it lacked the bold flavors found in other dishes, receiving a modest rating of 3/5. Kebab: Though not pictured, this dish was a standout, with tender chicken, chorizo, and black pudding skewers accompanied by a delectable sauce, earning a perfect score. The bill, totaling £108 inclusive of drinks, felt reasonable given the quality of the meal. However, the set menu format left me somewhat divided, as I couldn't help but compare it to past experiences, such as Cafe Andaluz in Aberdeen, where a more à la carte approach allowed for greater variety and spontaneity in ordering. Ultimately, while the food was enjoyable, the warm hospitality of the staff and inviting atmosphere, my personal preference leans towards establishments with a more extensive menu selection. Nonetheless, for those seeking a taste of Spain in a cozy setting, this restaurant undoubtedly delivers. Apologies on the only Image I took, I had already eating the cold meze before I realised :D One thing I would say to finish this off is, this isn't really child friendly with the food. If your child is a fussy eater, or hasn't eating Spanish food, etc, this is not the place for them

Had an early evening tapas dinner and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The staff were excellent and the restaurant warm and comfortable. If you enjoy mixed tapas in lovely surroundings this is well worth a visit

Thoroughly enjoyed our experience in this tapas bar and felt that there was a wide variety of dishes offered to us in the set menu. Staff were efficient and friendly while all questions we asked were fully answered. The sangria was better than has been served to us in some establishments in Spain ! There is 2 levels to the restaurant which can caterfor all clients We consider the cost of the evening to be good value for the money and would highly recommend a visit when in Broughty Ferry.

5 cold dishes 5 hot £22. Food was tasty but portion sizes small, had to hunt for the chicken and chorizo in the stew.

Our first visit. Not clear how to proceed once we were shown to our seats because the menu didn't appear to show shared Tapas meals (we had to ask about it). Kind of cramped at our table and surrounded by very loud patrons. Waitress was very nice and chatty.

Delicious hot food and appreciated that the set menu could be adapted for different tastes, allergies etc but for a restaurant that prides itself on catering for gluten-free diners, they didn't have any gluten-free bread etc so there was no way to eat most of the cold mezzes, which was 50% dip. They offered to give extra servings, but the only options were more dips. The server DID end up running out and buying Nairn oatcakes in the middle of the night, which was appreciated but showed a bemusing lack of forethought. It's pretty outrageous to offer a gluten-free options and then not have them and expect someone to go without, but pay full price. On top of this, there were no baby changing facilities and no obvious disabled toilet, leaving the baby to be changed on top of a toilet seat in a tiny cubicle.

- Bowls with large chips on the rim used for serving dishes - Bread inedible due to being burnt - also didn’t seem to be freshly made - feels like a supermarket par-baked thing. - I’d put a note on the booking that it was for my mums birthday and how hard she works , they didn’t acknowledge this in any way by saying happy birthday etc. overall the hospitality just wasn’t great , an upbeat and energetic server who also ensures they are presentable makes a big difference to peoples experience. We were also ignored as we left saying goodbye and thank you, even though we tipped - all the tables are different which feels a bit odd , one of which has high backed armchairs at it and personally I’d ask to move if seated there as it’s not appropriate for eating a sit down meal at, you’d have to perch forward the entire time. - There’s bits of plaster about to fall off of the ceiling near the bathrooms - Drinks menus were very sticky

- Clipboard menus were clunky to use and felt unprofessional
, the set menu isn't on the menu, we had to ask about it. - Plates weren’t refreshed between courses so you had to scrape sauce from the last dishes over to the side - A few of the dishes were very salty - I think if you are serving a full table with a set menu then the dishes really need to be spot on and delicious. I came here a few years ago and it was incredible food , but I’d honestly give it a 4 out of 10. It was…. Fine? just about fine. - the cold tapas was very underwhelming and not a lot of it for 4 people. The hot tapas was marginally better but salty , the chicken wings overcooked so hard to eat and overall an odd selection. - The music also kept cutting out and it made for a very awkward atmosphere, I’m also not sure why you would play Taylor swift songs in a tapas restaurant. Wouldn’t visit again unfortunately , this was one of my favourite restaurants.

*ALLERGEN WARNING* To preface, I have been here a few times before, and have previously recommended it to all my friends, and would have given it 5 stars then. My recent experience at Sol y Sombra left a lot to be desired. Both on my reservation, and when ordering I told them about my allergies, however they still brought me dishes with those allergens visibly present. When I pointed this out, I was questioned if I have even told the wait staff about this allergy. My bill and the reservation show I did. The dish was then taken away, and when I asked if the other dishes were safe since they were served, and potentially cooked, right next to the allergen containing dish, I was told they 'should be fine'. Other issues: I ordered the same wine twice, and the second time I ordered it the white wine came out red. After the second course, all of our plates were taken and put table was cleared, which we thought meant our service was over, at which point we asked for the bill, got asked to leave a tip, and got ready to leave. Then more food was brought out to us? With no plates or cutlery to eat it with. Later, we then asked for a box to take the food away with, and had all our cutlery taken and plates taken again, so we just had to slide our food off the serving plates into the box. Also, the men's bathroom has no toilet roll holder and instead the toilet paper is kept of a shelf that is sloped, about to fall off the wall, straight towards the toilet. Food has reduced in quality since I first went, really disappointing meal and service with a previous local favourite.
