If you like Japanese curry, this spot is a hidden treasure. I got the pork katsu curry and it was perfect — crispy and flavorful. The staff is polite and quick. It’s not a big restaurant but it’s spotless and cozy. Definitely coming back.

I ordered the signature curry with pork, and added vegetables, and a yuzu lemonade. It was all amazing. The pork was katsu style, the veggies included pumpkin, taro, and red bell pepper. Plus, it was very affordable, I'm a visitor to the area and was pleasantly surprised by the pricing. Great japanese curry!

This place is great! Great prices, great flavor, great portion sizes. And if you want extras on your curry it’s not expensive to add. I have been here twice and they never disappoint. I got the katsu chicken curry and added the pork and it was amazing. The chicken was very juicy and crispy and the pork was incredibly tender. I would 100% recommend that. The curry flavor is mild in the best way, not too strong but very flavorful.

The Japanese style curry house got my favorite curry and beer combo after work in the area. The seating has its cozy style with the sun light from above. Love the atmosphere!

Came here in September with a friend and his family. We came out full and extremely satisfied. Haven’t had Japanese curry in ages, and this place hit the spot. I ordered the potato croquette with curry, cabbage, and potato salad. Such a delicious curry sauce! The potato/corn croquette was creamy inside and crispy outside. I was blown away by the taste and texture. I licked my plate clean 😋😋😋 My friends had the pork meat curry and chicken karaage dish. It was plenty of food to go around! Highly recommend this place! They also have a place in Cupertino, not too far where I live. I am fortunate to try it closer to my place!

Wonderful curry restaurant! The portions are pretty big so you get quite a bit of food for the price. The staff are very friendly and attentive. Space is on the smaller side so it can get crowded quickly. They have 5 different spices you can use to add a kick to your curry. My personal favorite is the Orange Habanero Pepper. Will be coming back!

Food was excellent especially the sauce. We had chicken Katsu and Kara-age

Yummy as always. Nothing we have tried on the menu that we don't like. Such a hidden gem in the quaint Burlingame area. Absolute bang for the buck. Must try: Teppanji appetizer.

YUM! This was my first time visiting this location, but second time at a curry hyuga. My first time was at their Cupertino location, so I had high expectations, which were exactly met! I stopped by here with 2 friends around noon on a Saturday and we were seated right away. Shockingly, the restaurant wasn't too busy either. We were able to order right away and received our meal soon after. I don't exactly remember what I ordered, other than the pork cutlet. We all had a great time and walked away fully satisfied from the meal. Would definitely come back the next time I'm craving Japanese curry in this area! Service: 5/5 Food/Drinks: 5/5 Price: 4/5 Atmosphere: 4/5

A small and lovely restaurant. Curry is on the thinner end but with great flavor. I tried the fried chicken as an appetizer and loved it to get it as the curry. The chicken curry OG is the way to go. The milk tea is also solid at a reasonable price point as milk teas go.

I recently dined at Curry Hyuga and had a fantastic experience! We ordered the katsu curry and the karaage curry, along with some Teppanji. The service was impressively fast and efficient, which made our meal even more enjoyable. The food itself was absolutely delicious! The flavors were vibrant, and each dish was perfectly cooked. The Katsu was crispy and paired wonderfully with the rich curry sauce, while the karaage was tender and bursting with flavor. The Teppanji added a delightful touch to our meal.

Popular curry restaurant in downtown Burlingame. Parking can be tight during dinner hours but wasn’t too bad if you circle around the neighborhood. We put our reservation on the iPad once inside and waited 10 minutes before we were seated on a Friday night. We ordered the signature curry and added one fried Menchi to it. We also got the katsudon set menu. The food arrive fairly quickly, the portions are huge, you may have to take leftovers home. The fried menchi was really good! The katsu was thick but instead of chicken, next time we would get the pork katsu. The katsudon set came with a cucumber salad, miso soup, and a thick katsu over eggs and rice. It was very good, especially adding the orange habanero spice on the table which added a kick to it. This is one our our favorite curry places, I would come back next time to try the beef hayashi on rice!

The owners welcomed us and were very quick with service and food! The curry and Katsu dishes are very tasty, and the potato croquette was delicious! Watch out - the portions are big! I'll eat there again!

DARLING, this place is EVERYTHING! I walked into Curry Hyuga serving LOOKS and left serving even BETTER looks because this food had me absolutely GLOWING! The Beef Hayashi Om Rice? Baby, that’s what I call a SERVE! That silky European style gravy had more layers than my contour, and the way that egg draped over the rice? Pure artistry, honey! It’s giving main character energy and I am HERE for it! And don’t even get me STARTED on that Karaage Chicken… crispy, juicy, and golden like my highlight! Each bite was crunchy perfection that had me doing a little chair choreo because THE FLAVOR! But the REAL showstopper? That sizzling skillet presentation! The way they brought it out with all that steam and sizzle… it’s giving DRAMA, it’s giving THEATER, it’s giving “I’m the moment!” And mama, when I tell you the taste matched the presentation… chef’s kiss The service was fabulous, the vibes were immaculate, and my taste buds are still doing the happy dance! If you’re not eating at Curry Hyuga, you’re doing yourself a DISSERVICE, gorgeous! Now excuse me while I plan my return because a queen always comes back for an encore! 💅✨

Been craving some good japanese curry so decided to try. We managed to beat the crowd cause it filled up fast, busy place for take out too. We ordered tonkatsu curry, katsu curry, chicken karaage with katsu curry, and karaage appetizer for the kid, yuzu lemonade and guava lemonade. Both lemonade were pretty good, wasn't sure if they offer refills. They have a selection of powdered peppers to spice up your curry to your liking. We all thought the curry was a bit sweeter than we're used to but you can remedy that by adding whatever pepper you prefer. I tried the habanero and it does add a kick. All the karaage was nice and juicy with fairly large pieces. Katsu was also pretty juicy. Overall it hit the spot and food was good. Portion size is pretty good for the price. Definitely will be back.

Authentic Japanese curry. Pork katsu could've been more tender and hot but still tasty nonetheless. Variety of additional spices on the table. Service was efficient. Convenient Yelp digital wait-list and table side contactless payment available. Paid street parking and a lot behind the building.

Good authentic Japanese curry restaurant. Their curry tastes very good. On the table, there are 6 different spices. Very interesting. The staff are very friendly and efficient. The price is reasonable. Highly recommend.

If you love Japanese curry, this is seriously a good option to try out in Downtown Burlingame! You join a waitlist at the entrance of the store and they text you when your table is ready. On a Saturday at 1:00 PM, there was a 15-20 minute wait. I got the Karaage Curry and I loved the texture of the meat! The breading was gummy and the chicken was dark meat, so pretty fatty. Very juicy and they give a mayo sauce to dip it in. The potato salad was light and balanced the curry well. They give a good amount of rice and cabbage! The curry itself was VERY FLAVORFUL too. Very delicious and addicting, but wow... I think I got only 1/3 way through my plate before getting full!! BIG PORTIONS. Definitely great as leftovers later.

The best Japanese Curry in the Bay area for sure! Better than most places in Japan even! I had had the karaage curry and was blown away by how juicy and delicious it was. I finally made the connection about Hyuga ... Hyuga in Miyazaki! Miazaki is famous for its chicken nanban, and the sauce for the karaage was the same delicious sauce used in the best chicken nanban! Everything about the entire dish was delectable! Seven out of five stars.

Can't go wrong with 6-hour boiled curry, but the restaurant interior is quite cute with a brick facade and seating area! They're known for their katsu curry, which I found was well-flavored with a good curry to rice quantity! Service is fast, and they have small buttons on the table to request service!

Ordered takeout by phone and the order was ready in 15 mins. We got the 2 signature katsu curry, 1 with chicken and 1 with pork for $15.50 each. The meats were perfectly breaded and still crispy when we got home. Large portion of curry and white rice. It also comes with a small scoop of potato salad on the side and some shredded cabbage and pickles on top of the rice. Curry was slightly salty, quite tasty, and on the thin side. I'd say the food is pretty much on par with what I had in Japan. Prices and portions were reasonable. I recommend it if you are craving some Japanese curry

Many people may disagree but I felt the curries and Hayashi rice gravies were a bit sweet. It’s still very good but a bit on the sweet side for me. I would be interested to hear if it’s supposed to be this way and my culinary expectations need to be corrected. The corn soup/bisque was very good. The servers were all great and street parking there is available if you get lucky. The place is quite popular and getting there early is recommended.

Curry Hyuga is up there with some of the best grab-and-go Japanese cuisine in my opinion. The service is quick, professional and friendly. I love the greetings that they do when you enter the restaurant and the farewells that the staff gives you as well when you leave! The portion sizes are amazing, I have never left here feeling like I didn't get enough for my dollar. There is no complimentary tea which is not the best, but they do have additional spices of a large variety on each table. Spotless bathrooms, clean tables, and medium noise make this not only a memorable dining place, but a good date spot too! Try to negotiate sitting by the window since there's a lot of foot traffic. Excellent people watching on the Broadway strip!

Very good dark curry. Today we added mixed vegetables. The veggies turned out to be very colorful. The pork tonkatsu was slightly overcooked but still good. We had iced tea. When we asked for refills, we were told that we have to order a new one. No free refills is the custom in Asia but in the US free refills is the norm.

This is my all time favorite curry place! The pork katsu curry and omurice were absolutely delicious. The portions were generous and the flavors made it such a satisfying meal. There was not a long wait and I was able to enjoy my food in a great mood. I will definitely be coming back!

After living in Japan for the past two years, I had to fly to SFO for a long work weekend. I stumbled upon this gem of a restaurant on Google maps, and here the story begins: I ordered Tonkatsu Curry, with extra cabbage and a side of karaage. To say I was skeptical, is a significant understatement. Y’all…I was nearly moved to TEARS by the absolute PERFECTION of the flavor in this Japanese curry. After literally my first bite, I was in shock. Truly speechless. I could kiss the cook. How on earth did they do it?? This is EXACTLY what it tastes like in Japan. It’s like they have teleportation capabilities in that kitchen. I’m kinda freaked out by it…in the best way possible. It’s like the twilight zone. Every single nuance. No lie. Is perfect. If you’re a Japanese Cuisine Foodie, which I am not, you appreciate the importance of flavor nuances. Japanese cuisine is art, full of distinct notes and it can be a challenge to find them not only attempted, but perfected in America, of all places. I could have given this meal to an old Japanese grandma and she’d be like yup, tastes like it’s supposed to. There’s a reason why Anthony Bourdain said Japanese food is the best food in the world. I digress. Because THEN…the potato salad?!? AGAIN. EXACTLY. LIKE. JAPAN. And if you’ve never had Japanese potato salad, this is your sign to give it a go. It’s a beautiful thing. The karaage’s flavor was again 1000% on point. This is a BIG deal. You never knew how different fried chicken could be until you have karaage. Different cut of meat. Different ingredients. It’s nothing like The South’s version. Don’t believe me? Try it at Hyuga for yourself. This place is basically a passport stamp. I’m jet lagged and comfort food is all I want when that happens. And Japanese food, like REAL Japanese food is my version of that. (And no, I do not mean sushi. Which has it’s own time and place.) I have a few more days in the area, and this will absolutely not be the only time I eat here…. I’m having the other half of my meal for breakfast tomorrow, as the portion sizes are quite larger than a typical Japanese portion…which I’m not sad about. Wish I could give them all the stars in the sky. But Google insists on 5 being the max. 🫰

I wanted to be reminded of the delicious comfy food I could get back in Japan. The authenticity and simplicity is what really makes this meal hit home. The curry was delicious with a nice sweet tang and spice to it. It truly gives off warm cozy vibes. The pork katsu is perfectly crisp and goes so well with the curry. The chewiness is exactly how I like it and the pickled veggies and potato that accommodate the dish does not overwhelm the experience. The star of the show is the corn soup! Wow that dish is just so perfect I would come back here just to have multiple bowls of it! Overall a great experience and relatively quick. The gentlemen was very efficient and attentive to the small details. Good job!

My partner wanted to bring me here for lunch and I'm so glad he did! He brought home some of his leftovers from a previous visit and it was delicious so I definitely wanted to dine there and try more of the menu. I got the Chicken Katsu Curry Udon and it was yummy, the curry had a nice flavor to it, noodles were cooked well, and the chicken katsu was perfection. I also love that there is a "call" button on the table so you can buzz for your server if you need anything. I love that we didn't have to wait to flag someone down to pay the check.

Bookmarked this place to try for the longest time, and I decided to stop by to kill time while traffic dies down. I remember it being called one of the most authentic Japanese curry places in the Bay Area, and it definitely felt that way. The curry was on the sweeter side. In the menu, it says they cook the curry for about 6 hours. I liked the spices that are available to you on the table that allows you to pick how spicy you want to make it. The protein choices are abundant. The Karaage was good, but I would go with the pork katsu next time. I thought it was thicker and was still tender. At around 4-5pm, this place was not as busy but I felt it getting busier as we were eating. The servers are quick to get to you. Overall it was a great experience.

Excellent service and high touch customer recognition. Order was taken, order was confirmed, payment was made, expected time of arrival was communicated. When the arrival time neared, the staff reconfirmed that the order was being packaged up and prepared for takeaway. Male staff then hustled (jogged) back to the kitchen to pick up our order. Upon placing it onto the pickup table, he confirmed our order and then bowed to us and thanked us as we walked out. Very detail oriented which I like. The chicken and pork Katsu portions were very generous and super crispy, but the Curry taste was just OK for me. My only gripe is that the potato croquette (which was a generous size, actually) was still cold on the inside. I personally like my Curry a bit thicker and more robust. I'd like to try their Curry again, though, and again, you are made to feel like a valued customer.

The chicken karaage curry is the best out of the 3 dishes we ordered. Lightly breaded tender chicken pieces that are full of flavor and juice, they paired really well with the sweet curry sauce. The katsu curry and Teishoku rice plate set are okay and the wiri wiri powder really brings the dishes up a notch! Don't bother with the corn soup, not worth the 5 bucks.

It was a sad day when Curry House closed all their stores, and I’ve been chasing a replacement ever since. I think this place so far has been as close to that as I could find. However, I think it’s missing something at least for me. I will say, though I really like that they had a bunch of spicy powder that you could select, and some of it was quite spicy, which was fantastic. The appetizers were actually pretty good although I did think the kaarage was the weakest of the three. Pricing wise, I think the food you got was pretty worth it. I definitely left really full and I probably wouldn’t get apps again as it was just too much. it’s definitely going on my list of staples when I’m feeling curry.

In Burlingame, there is a spot quite rare, A Japanese curry place with tasty fare, Their chicken katsu curry is a delight, So good, it will make your taste buds take flight. But that's not all, the ambiance is neat, Contemporary Jpop plays with a beat, The decor is charming and oh-so chic, A perfect place for a quick bite to eat. The staff are friendly and very polite, Their service will make your dining feel right, So if you're looking for some curry bliss, This spot is not to be missed, don't dismiss. To sum it up, this place is quite divine, The curry and music make it all shine, So head on over and give it a try, You won't regret it, no need to be shy.

This was my first time here. Had their Special Katsu Curry (pork). It was very good and you can adjust your own "heat" at the table. I'll go back again. Also had the Yuzu Lemonade and karaage appetizer.

Ordered the vegetarian curry and the corn soup. Came in a big plate with pumpkin, bell peppers, egg plants, pickled peppers, potato salad and rice. Curry was tasty and the vegetables were excellent. I think they deep-fried them. The corn soup was very good. Its like corn puree with bits of corn in the bottom. You can also taste a hint of butter. We went in as it opened the doors. By time we sat down, the place was packed. It's not a big restaurant. No reservations but can be put on a wait list. Our waiter was kinda new and had a language barrier. I asked him a few times that I needed a fork and he didn't have a clue until i showed him a fork. Other than that, you should give this place a try. Just go early and you will get a table right away.

The chicken karaage is really good with a lot of flavor. The tonkatsu is also perfectly breaded and tender. The curry overall is good and but has some mild sourness to it. In terms of the curry itself I’ve had others that are better. There is table side spices to allow you to put heat into the curry which I really like.

I like Japanese curry dishes so I was bound to visit this place. Not a big place, but we only had to wait like 5 minutes so not a big deal. I was going to order a katsu curry dish, but once I saw the omurice, I just had to order. Although not quite as good as the ones I had in Japan, it was still satisfying. Wifey had the chicken katsu and I took a few bites. I think I enjoyed it more than she did. I was quite surprised and impressed to see a bunch of chili pepper powders. I tried the orange habanero, but didn’t put a lot (yeah, I’m weak like that lol). The prices were reasonable and it satisfied my curry cravings. Yeah, I would come back!

Ordered the corn potato soup, Karaage Curry, tonkatsu teishoku. Everything has a mild flavored. If you want the food hotter there were several condiments on the table to choose from. We also order a Tonkatsu Curry pork. Very good flavor and well prepared. The place was already full and some people waiting for a table..

Food was amazing! Comparable to curry in Japan in my opinion. Curry plate comes with potato salad, rice, and radish. The katsu was super juicy. Good solid Japanese curry. Service was wonderful. Our waiter was an older Japanese guy and would greet everyone with sumimasen and it just brought us back to when we visited Japan We went on a Monday evening for dinner at 6pm and beat the rush but unfortunately we were after a big group so our food took 30 mins to come out which was the only downside for us

Quaint Japanese curry restaurant, located in old downtown Burlingame. Hyuga has a focused menu on curry-based dishes, but the curry itself was surprisingly average in taste. Generous portions for each order. Staff was very friendly and efficient. Limited street parking, but several paid parking lots nearby.

My nephew loves their curry. Im not a big curry fan and ordered their spaghetti. OMG. That dish was awesome. I had a taste of the curry and I had to say, it was better than I thought it would be. This place do have a special way of making their curry that stands out.

Their food is awesome! But the staff isn’t friendly at all. We felt really uncomfortable about the staff who’s working to clean the table and check out the payment. He came to our table to clear the table several times even though we still had a lot of food on the plates, which was really annoying. He indeed only thinks about the efficiency of customers. Also, the toilet isn't cleaned. Careful if you're fastidious.

The menu wasn't overly complicated. With a service bell at the table, servers came quickly when summoned. The food came to the table in a timely manner. For me, I felt I would have enjoyed more rice with my curry order. If you look carefully at the photo I included, there is raw cabbage on top of the rice, creating the illusion of more rice. I have eaten Japanese-style curry rice at a similar price point from many different restaurants, so I feel confident I can say most restaurants I have visited serve more rice with their curry.

I wanted to really be wow’d and love this place, but it was just alright to me. You might have to be a super Japanese curry fan to go 5 stars here. The curry was flavorful, but nothing that left a mark. Chicken was fried well, and just wish it was seasoned more…even if it was going into the curry. I think this is overpriced for the meal that it is. This actually made me want to buy the Golden Curry packet and make it at home. I ordered to go, which is why it’s packaged like that in my photo.

I’d recommend dining in only. I really like this place for the food, it’s fresh and filling. The service when you’re there is great. I’d give 4 stars if you’re dining in. That said, I would never order takeout again. When I went to go pick it up and pay, the man checking out my order came from behind the counter, stood right next to me and said, “Do a tip!!!” right in my ear. Which I was going to do to begin with (and still did) - but that action came off as bullying type behavior, made me feel like he didn’t trust his customers, and really threw me off.

We ordered the Double Menchi Curry plate and a side of corn porridge. Unfortunately, the Menchi’s (deep fried patties) were overcooked on the outside and we were sure it was not cooked on the inside as it was pink, bouncy and mushy at the same time. The outside was crunchy, not crispy. Corn soup was amazing! It was very delicious and unique (to me) If I need to try it again, I’ll probably try a katsu to give it a chance. Other than that, service was amazing and attentive. It was a busy Saturday afternoon but everyone was being seated within a reasonable wait and food came out quick.
