Each time I've visited has been really nice. The pourers are very knowledgeable and the vibe is chill and chatty. Order some snacks and kick it on the small patio out back.

I visited the other day. I simply love this place. First of all I was by myself, and that can be weird at a restaurant. But the staff here was exceptional. I came in for wine and dessert. After I sat, I received a complimentary glass of champagne. I didn’t know what wine to order, but I was able to describe the taste I was looking for (a big tannic heavy red that feels like a blanket in my belly). The waitress tried and then the team collaborated with a couple of options. It was great! And the chocolate mousse dessert complemented the red wine just perfectly! Even with how spectacular the service, wine and dessert were…. The BEST was the warm welcome I received from the bar staff. Drea stands out. I’m new to the area and she gave me a few recommendations of places to eat and things to do. It was amazing, not too overwhelming either. For the first time since I moved here (8 months ago) I felt I finally found a community.

Can't believe I haven't left my praises for this place! Hands-down best wine bar in the Peninsula! Amazing selection, wines for all palates, beginners, vinos, and wine nerds alike. Staff is amazing, super friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive. The flights are super fun and great to expand your palate. And if you study the wine list closely, you'll find some bottles priced at a steal! This has quickly become my go-to spot and it will become yours soon!

Burlingame has long been overdue for a dedicated wine bar, and Velvet 48 Wine Bar fills that gap beautifully. Years ago, we were regulars at Nectar, a beloved spot for date nights, and ever since it closed, we've been waiting for something that could capture that same charm. Velvet 48 delivers. Though centrally located, the entrance is a bit tucked away — we might have missed it if a friend hadn’t recommended it. We’re so glad they did. From the moment you walk in, the service is warm, welcoming, and attentive without being overbearing. You’re greeted with a taste of their house sparkling rosé, which is so good we end up ordering it every time we visit. That said, their wine list is extensive and thoughtfully curated, and they also offer bottles to-go. We always enjoy their cheese and charcuterie boards — either one of each or the half-and-half option, which makes a perfect light bite before dinner. If you’re looking for an inviting, high-quality wine bar in Burlingame, Velvet 48 is absolutely worth a visit.

One of the best wine bar in town. We love their indoor seating, with comfortable lounge sofa and excellent vibe for wine tasting. They have friendly staff that gives great recommendations. We took 3 bottle home on our first impromptu visit, and are very happy and glad we did, because they also have some great wined on sale from time to time.

We love, love, love this beautiful bar! One of the best spots in the area for a glass of wine and snacks (or desserts for sweetlovers) that pairs great with it. Very nice wine bar, great atmosphere, when we got there they welcomed us with a glass of rose. We ordered some wine and it was great. They have a limited food items, but what they serve is decent and good quality. They have a large collection of wines.

Lovely, and much needed, addition to the Burlingame landscape. This little wine bar offers a fun array of glasses and bottles for in-bar and take-home service, with stunning decor and a warm and friendly service experience. An especial shout out to their cheese and charcuterie combo board (the genius move of the owner's wife). Highly recommend stopping in and giving it a try or six.

I visited this place for the atmosphere and ended up staying for the fantastic wine and welcoming staff. It’s become my go-to spot! Drea, a level 2 sommelier, truly knows her wine. She has a knack for sensing what people are in the mood for. The food is delicious, and they’re always experimenting with wines and discovering new favorites. It’s one of the most diverse wine lists I’ve ever seen. In short, great wine, tasty food, and friendly folks. What more could you ask for?

I love this spot. It’s a little hard to find. Into a narrow corridor and then you’re in a lovely, expansive room full of wine bottles. The bartenders/servers are so kind and knowledgeable. Zero attitude at all. Just lovely. Great selection of wines and snacks. Such a good vibe. Thank you, servers for being so good at your jobs!

I was looking for a place to rest in the area, and I stopped by this wine bar. As a person who feels nervous that wine establishments can be stuffy and unwelcoming, I was extremely thrilled to walk into such an inviting, airy, and welcoming space. I loved the complementary small glass of their house rosé, which was delicious. They also had a great selection of different varieties of wine as well as craft beer, cans, and snacks, and I was also impressed that they had non-alcoholic options, including one nonalcoholic wine. My winetender was very friendly and she took good care of me and let me try to wine before deciding what I wanted a glass of. I really loved the aesthetic of the place and overall I’m extremely grateful that I stopped by here and had a lovely afternoon. Highly recommend !!

This is the establishment that downtown Burlingame needed! The ambiance is perfect to relax with a glass of wine. They have pleasant music playing in the background and somehow the acoustics of the space made it easy to converse without having to talk loud. They offered me a complimentary sparkling wine as soon as I sat down! The wine selection is huge, even though I didn't know much about particular wines, I described what I liked to the owner Jason and he ordered delicious wines for me. The staff was very friendly and the open layout, high ceilings, and seating areas are very inviting without feeling pretentious. I love outdoor seating and this place has a small outdoor patio in the back. They offer small plates that pair well with wine. I tried one of the deserts and it hit the spot. Downtown Burlingame finally has a wine bar and Velvet 48 nailed it.

It was a great find: we drink wine four or five times a week and have strong opinions (not necessarily right, but strong opinions), but they were able to introduce us to new wines. They have an excellent selection and the servers are very attentive. The proprietor was circulating and we had fun conversation about the wine bar and his philosophy. The staff was very gracious about pouring a "taste". I strongly recommend a visit!

This is still one of my favorite hidden gems in Burlingame. Actual real hospitality, great wines, a great vibe that's perfect for a solo glass, date night or hanging with friends. Such a great selection of coveted wines for purchase too!

It was a great find: we drink wine four or five times a week and have strong opinions (not necessarily right, but strong opinions), but they were able to introduce us to new wines. This little place has so much potential, but unfortunately it really does not live up to it. It’s in an odd sub level location so there’s almost no natural light, and the ambiance is modern and not very inviting - lots of hard lines. I tried several of their wines but didn’t like any of them; they were all too tart or too bitter. I also tried some of their small bites. The bread was very dry and plain, and their nuts were awful; the seasoning was reminiscent of vomit and they were primarily cheap corn nuts and chickpeas like you would find at a gas station rather than a genuine nut medley. The prices were pretty high for what you get. I wish I could give 2.5 stars, and will keep looking for a relaxing wine bar nearby.

One was pure bug spray scent. Disappointing but ok. Food was sad. The server gushed about the Gruyère bread something, which was meh. Nuts were not nuts at all. No nut to be found. But corn nuts. Lighting too bright for a Saturday night. Service was lovely.
