We’ve been to KiX on Main multiple times now, and at this point I’m starting to think it’s physically impossible for them to put a bad dish on the menu. Nothing we’ve ordered has dipped below an 8/10, and that feels statistically suspicious in the best way. Let’s talk about the chicken & waffles, because it deserves its own paragraph and possibly a small parade. It is hands-down the best in the greater Rochester area, and yes, I’ve done the research (by eating). Crispy, juicy, perfectly balanced sweet and savory a 9.4/10, which is a very serious score in our household. The candied bacon mac & cheese is also phenomenal when it is on the menu. Whoever decided that candied bacon belonged in mac & cheese deserves a raise, a trophy, and maybe naming rights to a menu item. It’s rich, indulgent, and absolutely not something you “just try a bite of.” You commit. On top of the food, the service is always top notch, friendly, attentive, and the kind that makes you feel like a regular even if it’s only your second visit. Bottom line: KiX on Main has officially entered our regular rotation. If consistency, flavor, and food that makes you pause mid-bite to say “wow” out loud are your thing, this place is it. Can’t wait to come back and continue the streak of zero regrets.
We stopped in for a bite during Canandaigua's fire and ice festival. The staff were more than accommodating. The food was delicious and properly prepared. My wife had their expresso martini, and loved it. Great job, Kiz On Main.
Amazing food! This is one of my favorite places to eat, it is so delicious and the flavor combos are divine. I highly recommend the Cajun Canadaguia chicken sandwich—it will blow your mind yum!
A gem in the heart of the Finger Lakes. Solid staff with a great location. The menu is always rotating but is always solid and very good. One of my go to places as I'm not sure you can get a better meal for the money anywhere. I've been here many times and have never had a bad experience. I love their Beef Wellington and the monkey bread. Also their rotating salads are always so fresh and full of incredible flavor. Weather in the great atmosphere inside, out on Main St or upstairs overlooking downtown Canandaigua there are no bad tables. Combine that with the consistent food and top shelf service and friendly demeanor of the owners. The only thing is with such a great menu and such a great bar, lets get some large single ice cubes for when someone wants a real cocktail.
This is a hidden gem in Canandaigua. The food is creative and delicious and the service KiX butt. The ahi tuna nachos are a must try and we like ordering off the seasonal specials menu. The gazpacho with lump crab is awesome. Dishes often end up getting shared with the table so everyone can get a taste of as many as possible. The food comes out fast without feeling like you're being rushed, which is perfect for getting to a concert in good time or having extra time to stroll around town. The staff and owner here are super friendly and make you feel at home as soon as you walk through the door. Servers are attentive without being overbearing. If it's a nice day and you can get it, the outside seating is great as is the roof top. We stumbled on this place a couple years ago and now it's our go to restaurant in Canandaigua. Don't pass it up.
My wife and I brought Bentley the golden doodle to the patio for dinner. Our server, Jordan, gave us great recommendations (and we asked a lot of questions)! The patio is cozy with the patio heaters. It was a little chilly on the fall evening we went but comfortable on the patio. The cocktails and food were all very good. I always appreciate a place with a chef who makes seasonal specials, so I had the duck breast special. Duck is a meat that you have to cook just right or it gets chewy and dry quickly. This duck was fabulous!!! Fortunately, my wife liked her buttermilk chicken sandwich because I may have had to fight to keep her away from my duck.
The food was phenomenal! It was a Saturday evening and the restaurant was busy but our food came out quickly and was so delicious. Everything from the appetizer that the table split (Monkey Garlic Bread), to our actual meals was amazing! The Turkey Club and Alex's Own were huge enough that we had leftovers. The Buttermilk Chicken & Slaw and the Canandaigua Cajun Chucken were great meal sizes (both of us had leftover fries). We all left satisfied.
We wife and I decided to check out KIX on Main after searching for restaurants in the area. We decided on visiting after being impressed with the menu. I made reservations online, which was really easy. I liked that someone texted me to confirm we were still coming. Though we booked a table at the window, it was crowded and the man who greeted us offered to move us to the rooftop. We liked this a lot. The server was friendly and quick. My wife had Xan's Chicken French and I had KIX some balls. Both were delicious. We had wine from a local vineyard. Great that locals are sourced. All in all, we enjoyed the whole experience and will happily revisit when back in the area.
Came here for my husband's company party we tried a bunch of different things I have never been here before. We tried the garlic monkey bread which was delicious my husband liked it very much, there was garlic bread with a huge meatball. The dishes we got to try was London Broil, Chicken French both of which I have never had. They did offer salmon also which I didn't try. The dessert we had was the fried dough which was delicious and warm. And since I don't drink I told the waitress Jordan something fruity with vodka I don't know what it was but it was delicious.
The buffalo cauliflower bites had good flavor, but the portion was small for the price. The French onion crock was bland and could use more depth of flavor. On a positive note, the entrée portions were generous and the flavors were good. Our server was friendly and attentive, and the atmosphere had a warm, welcoming tavern feel. Overall, a mixed experience with some highlights.
Interesting place. One check per table. I get that it makes tips a little larger. Food comes out when it’s done. Ok again it’s all the rage. Ordered the Shrimp Alexander, while the sherry sauce was tasty the shrimp were on the chewy side. My partner had the fish sandwich which was good however the side salad really needed a knife to be edible. Server was moderately attentive. Might have been a bad night we’ll give it another try if we come back this way
Worst old fashioned I've ever had. Calamari tasted like straight flour. Carbonara was decent but everything else lacked quality. Not sure how a largely landlocked area claims to have "fresh never frozen" seafood from areas that are nowhere near local
Very bummed out. Had visited Kix a couple seasons back. Was phenomenal. Visited them again, late afternoon. Atmosphere always great. We proceeded to get an app, the calamari. I have to say, probably the best I can remember having. Cooked perfectly. So tender, melted in our mouths. The jalapeno aioli, great way to think outside the box. The marinara was great too. Seemed homemade. Ordered dinner. I got the chicken French. Was descent. Maybe a hint of sweetness would have finished it. Came with asparagus, a starch would have been better. One of the ladies got the Alex's shaved ribeye sandwich. Looked impressive. Was a tad salty, comes with Au jus and it needs it. Beef was plentiful, but was dry(they must have and cook it ahead of time). The other lady got the fish sandwich. Sadly the fish was not made in house, appeared to be the widely available frozen Yuengling battered haddock available for food service. This bummed me out because I had gotten the fish sandwich a ways back in the past and it was clearly fresh and battered in house. We've been in the food service business for close to 40 years and when ya get a piece of fried fish and it's perfectly flat? Frozen. They didn't say it was fresh, so I can't really complain, but it was $22.00. As far as the service, our server was sub par. Not very attentive. Never came back within 5-10 to check on on food. Never checked in to see about refills. Lucky that she got 16%. Will try again. Hope it's a better experience.
Food was fantastic! Service was not. For a fine dining restaurant I would expect the service team would be more formally dressed, not in t-shirts and shorts. Had a reservation for 4, included a note about Birthday dinner, hostess had her back to the door and after waiting a few minutes for her to notice us, our server seated us in the back corner. Minimal attention to our table, no recognition of the note about a birthday dinner. This was our second try - we will not be back. Credit card Service charge... took away from your Server's tip.
To the man who drives the truck with the “Kix On Main” logo. I hope you are just having an off day, and this is not how you behave. To start, I found it odd you did not acknowledge the ambulance coming from the opposite direction and figured maybe you did not see them or you were distracted, whatever the case may be. So red flag, number 1. Eventually I was closer behind you, and you decided to slam on your brakes and stop in the middle of the road. To which you put on your right hand signal, a waved me to pass you. As I proceeded to go around you, I was met with what I can assume as yelling, as I did not hear you, but you seemed rather upset. Red flag number 2. Then you proceeded to accelerate and tailgate me. Quite childish behavior, really. I truly hope this is not your everyday behavior. You need to do better. I find it wild that you would act that way while advertising (what I assume is) your restaurant. Now, a real review. I find your food quite expensive for the quality served. I would, and will, do business elsewhere.
We arrived about 10-15 minutes early for our reservation. We were told a table on the heated roof "just opened up" and they could seat us there. I said yes, then proceeded up the narrow steep stairway. It smelled funny up there, like old fried food..the tables and windowsills are filthy. The food was subpar. They do not bring your meals together yet one at a time. My husband got his food and mine came about 6 minutes later. It is strange. For the prices they charge, I expect cleanliness at a minimum.
