This location is just as good as every other King's I have tried. Great service, nice staff, and delicious food. We'll be back.
The oysters were delicious as well as our main entrée. It was a wonderful meal. We will definitely be back.
My favorite seafood restaurant. Wild Ross Sea Chilean Sea Bass and the clam chowder a must. Delicious 😋 Always a job well done. Thank you
The food here was delicious. We ordered to go and it was packaged well. The food was cooked to perfection. The creme brulee and bread pudding is so good! The Mac n cheese was some of the best I've had. My filet Mignon was cooked perfectly. The server who took my order was very kind and the wait for the food was reasonable. Will definitely be coming back again.
Took my group out for a work dinner. They were busy, we made a same day reservation on the patio. Service was top notch. The food selection was very good. Most of us were looking for good seafood options and found it here. The price was pretty reasonable as well, in my opinion, for this level of quality prepared food. We enjoyed it and would go back.
I'll make this quick and simple as we all are dying for some seafood. Are you? Parking is everything. What's the point if you can't find a parking spot, right? Parking isn't a problem here ✅ Their food runs the gamut from fries to their seafood specialty such as Miso-Yaki Chilean Sea Bass. ✅ See picture pls. Amazing staff. ✅ They'll make sure you'll have everything you may need. I suggest making a reservation. ✅ Walk-ins are welcome, though.
Amazingly delicious fish! This place is nice and classy with jokes on the table which are always fun! It’s like the deliciousness of a Snapple with the joke under the cap. The fish is nice and fresh. I got the seared tuna which was absolutely amazing. Also got some veggies which were delicious. The spinach was especially amazing!
This was our first time to try King's Fish House. It looked promising, but exceeded our expectations. Our server, Kevin, took great care of us. The starter sour dough bread & salted butter was great. The King's Combo Platter, pictured, was superb! It's hard to get great fried seafood, but King's hits it out of the park with fresh, high quality proteins, excellent breading, and proper frying. Oh, and even the fries were delish. Check out King's Fish House! UPDATE: Finally able to get back for our 2nd visit! I got the delicious combo again, and my wife got the Tuna Melt (2nd photo below). Combo was amazing, as was the Melt! This time Colette was our server, and she took great care of us. Can't wait to go again ☺️
Come to King's to have a nice night out with friends over a delicious meal! The service was great. The ambiance is romantic and loved the remodel. The drinks were really good and the food was amazing! Brussel sprouts are to die for. Our table had a variety of fish and it was all delicious! A must go!
Wow! Took my hubby for dinner tonite for his birthday. He had the clam linguine and I had the Maryland Soft shell crab! Wow! The crabs were fresh and super delicious. And the clams were big, juicy and tender. This is our normal go to restaurant but the first time we ordered these. To top it off, our server Daniel was helpful, funny and provided the service BEFORE we asked! Imagine that. He made our stay enjoyable! Thank you King’s Fish. Highly recommend of course! (Sorry… we got busy eating that I forgot to take photos of the beautiful plates of food). Well at least I was able to take a photo of a bit of the crab😀
Everything was perfect, great food, super delicious, the variety of the options is great for big groups with different preferences, the kids menu excellent, and the service by Kevin our waiter was fantastic, he even took the time to help my kid with the tattoos that come in the kids menu, five stars for Kevin!!!
Blue cheese, Walnut salad, grilled Idaho Rainbow Trout with garlic mashed potatoes and Deep fried brussel sprouts, N' awlins BBQ Shrimp, Bread pudding w/ vanilla bean ice cream topped with butter bourbon sauce. Excellent service, seafood is fresh and cooked to perfection. Nice wine selection. Large portions except for the Crab cakes - only get 2 but boy they were Good! Excellent prices that won't hurt. This place is a return visit for my 1st time - Son taking his Mom out ☺️
Me and my little family had a mini vacation and we choose king's to be one of our choices of dinner. Honestly, great sevice by Logan. Food was delicious, and atmosphere was very calm and welcoming. When we come for our mini vacations this way, Kings will definitely be one of our stops again.
Elise was a fantastic sever this evening, she recommended the macadamia crusted halibut and it was amazing! Service was quick and drinks were never empty! I would definitely recommend and I will be coming back for Elise !!
First time here. The food was absolutely amazing. Service was so good, our waiter was attentive and was so easy on the eyes. All around was a great way to spend our Thanksgiving.
This is real gem in the Carlsbad area with an extensive menu of fish, shellfish, and oysters. Availability varies with the season and the catch, but signboards let you know what's in. Appetizers are well made and interesting-we enjoyed the roasted artichoke. Swordfish, sea bass, and salmon were all perfectly done and exceptionally fresh. Staff were attentive and helpful and the decor and vibe were a couple steps above typical floaters and nets fish joints. Quality fish is pricey but worth it. We had a lovely meal at a lovely location.
Really nice place, clean, friendly. The waiter was really nice, offered suggestions and answered all the questions we had, very attentative and always checking with us to make sure we were taken care of. The Chilean Sea Bass was delicious and the Atlantic Salmon was perfect but, yes there is a but I expected more for the King's Crab Cakes plate, the presentation was not that appealing and there were 3 small very breaded crab cakes. I expected better way better after all it's The King's Fish House. Crab cake it's my FAVORITE dish I ordered them at every restaurant that I visited that have them on their menu. I am not going to say I am an expert but I can say that I had plenty in order for me to have a strong opinion. I have no doubt that you can do better my humble suggestion is less breading, don't do 3 small patties make it one and put it on a real plate. That will make it more appealing and it will represent the restaurant that is serving it. Just a suggestion from a sincere customer.
Daniel, our waiter was very attentive knew exactly how to answer questions on pricing and what’s on the menu very knowledgeable checked up on us frequent we will tell our friends and family so they have a great experience like we did. Awesome food everyone was very friendly.
Awesome time. Great service. Probably world class oyster and clam quality. Great drinks. Felix and the staff did great. My girl and I had a great time.
Everything about this place was pleasant. Contemporary fine dining. Pricey but well worth it. Specializing in seafood this Carlsbad, CA is a must STOP. Food was delicious, service great and atmosphere delightful. Wouldn't suggest as a kid's place. Near Leggo Land. Suggest reservations which can do on their website.
I’ve been to a King Fish in Calabasas and it was a solid experience. This spot was just as great too. We ordered their dozen oyster sampler and they were delicious, super fresh with different condiment options for dipping. The table starter bread was delicious too. The calamari was also really good. It wasn’t too bready, great seasoning and flavor. The calamari was very tender and the sweet and sour sauce was amazing. The also got a cup of the clam chowder and it was phenomenal. Nice and creamy with lots of clam pieces. I ordered the macadamia crusted fish with garlic mash and Brussels sprouts. The fish was pretty good, garlic mash was delicious and Brussels sprouts were a great addition. Great overall dining experience. I’d definitely come back to this spot again and try their other menu items.
Great food, nice people, very close to the highway as well which makes it a great pit stop! There were plenty of seats so I guess unscheduled, unreserved stops should be mostly fine! Loved the scallops and grilled shrimp! Cleanness: very clean Food: very good Seating: indoor ,outdoor, booths, tables, bar seating! People: nice and super polite Parking: plenty of Menu diversity: plenty diverse for seafood, some land food available too!
Was a lovely dinner after a cold wet day at Legoland. Their service and food were both exceptional. But best part was the interactive kids menus. Most kids menus lose my boys interest after seconds. These kept my boys engaged until dinner arrived!
My husband and I dined at King's Monday night around 5:00, we were seated immediately. Our server, Colette, greeted us right away. She took our drink order and then came back with delicious fresh bread. Colette was very knowledgeable about the menu and promptly took our order. The drinks and appetizers came out so fast. It was the first time we got a sushi roll at King's and I would definitely get it again! For dessert, we had the bread pudding with homemade ice cream -- so good!! It's such a relaxing environment and Colette was so good to us! We were stuffed and so happy with the service and food when we left! We will be back and will ask for Colette next time! If they had a Happy Hour, we would visit more often!!
Not a perfect experience but it had so much going for it that I had to give it five stars. First, the bar is not a full bar.. no 7&7 and no daiquiris .. but the cold raw bar is amazing. I haven't had raw clams on the half shell since I was a kid in New Jersey. But it was amazing. And the BBQ n'awlins shrimp was great too. For the entrees we had the Chilean Sea Bass that my wife just loved and I had the spiny lobster which was just amazing. It was like a North Atlantic tail but it was the whole thing. The waiter was a bit slow clearing plates but his friendliness and caring more than made up for the slowness. Finally we had the Creme Brule for dessert which while not quite as good as the one we get at Tavern in Cottonwood was still quite good. Overall an exceptional experience that I'd recommend.
I brought my daughter here for her 23rd birthday and it did not disappoint! For appetizers, we had grilled octopus, calamari and oysters. For dinner, linguini and clams and chilian sea bass. Everything was amazing. Oysters were probably the best I’ve ever had. It’s been a long time since a restaurant has exceeded my expectations but this one did it!!
This place is extremely good. The service here was great the warm sourdough bread with butter is fantastic. I love going here and getting a caterpillar roll it's not a sushi restaurant but it's probably one of the best caterpillar rules I've had. This place is very big it's also got a lot of bar seating also. Everyone here was very nice.
Stopped by King's Fish House in Carlsbad recently for a late lunch. Service was fast, large menu, good food, pretty and comfortable outdoor patio. Had a chance to speak with Tom Flores, the General Manager, who wanted to ensure we were happy with the food and service, which I appreciated. For some reason it's hard to find great seafood in the San Diego area, but King's Fish House is definitely one of the few quality seafood restaurants. Will be back!
You have to check out this fantastic seafood joint! It's just a short 6-minute drive away from Legoland, which you can read more about on their page. 😎 When we visited Kings Fish House on a Friday night, it was packed! Since I didn't make a reservation, we waited for about 35 minutes. But let me tell you, it was totally worth it. I ordered the Wild Mexican Yellowtail with Brussels sprouts and mashed potatoes, and the fish was seasoned just right. 🤤 My wife got the shrimp crunch roll, and it was equally delicious. However, I wouldn't recommend coming here for sushi. Their menu boasts so many fresh and wild-caught dishes that are to die for! We had plenty of food this night so we took desert home. I’ll add more details on this later. 👊🏼❤️
On vacation with my sister and parents. Sat at the bar where my parents enjoyed watching the staff prepare their seafood tray. I had the sea bass tacos. Generous portion and very yummy. My sis and I shared the wedge salad which they happily chopped up for us. Again, large portion enough for two. Overall, a great experience, great good and a very nice atmosphere. Will go again when in Carlsbad again.
This is a definitely one of the best seafood restaurants I have ever visited and I definitely want to come back. I had the Olde Salt Oysters with clams and my partner had the Mahi Mahi and we were very impressed with the food quality, taste, and presentation. Taylor answered all of our questions and was incredibly patient and kind with us and made the entire experience extremely pleasant. Thanks Taylor!!
We specifically chose this restaurant because of the proximity to the Outlets across the street, and we were not disappointed. The staff was very friendly and we chose to sit outside on this amazing socal day. The atmosphere is fantastic. The menu has a variety of seafood to choose from, most of which I had never tried before. I had the Blackend Sword fish, with homestyle mac and cheese and garlic mash potatoes. All superbly flavored. Our starter was Shrimp Taquitos and were amazing. My wife said the sushi rolls were merely okay, but she is not a fan of seafood. My son had shrimp and fries and liked it very much, they were huge shrimp battered perfectly. The portions seemed adequate and I left full. May we ever return to Carsbad I may give this place another shot.
We were in the area and our kids were hungry. We had tried Kings in other cities so decided to stop by. My favorite is the fish tacos and our kids enjoy the calamari. Cool spot to have dinner.
I’ve been coming to this place for a long time with my family. The atmosphere is great, and the food menu is excellent. I highly recommend trying their oysters and other delicious dishes. The staff is always friendly and very attentive.
My grandma and I visited King's Fish House on a Tuesday evening around 6pm and were seated immediately. The atmosphere inside was delightful, and all the staff we encountered were friendly and helpful as we decided what to order for our first time. My grandma chose the Wild Alaskan Halibut, which was cooked to perfection. She said it was wonderful! I opted for the Miso Yaki Wild Chilean Sea Bass, which was incredible! We both thoroughly enjoyed our dishes and would highly recommend either of them. Overall, it was a wonderful experience at King's Fish House, and we look forward to returning soon!
This restaurant was so good and kid friendly! Their kid menu is way more than a piece of paper. It includes tattoos and activities and coloring. The drinks and food were incredible. I ordered a fish with bok choy and mushrooms. The fish was absolutely perfectly cooked. I loved that we were able to get a delicious meal so close to Legoland. Plenty of parking, friendly staff, nice ambiance. 10/10 recommend.
I love this restaurant. The menuse is vast with a huge selection of shell fish to choose from. Everything I ate was fresh, cooked well and tasted wonderfully. The quality of the staff was just as good as the seafood. My server (the bartender) was extremely helpful with assisting me in my food selection. Ultimately I went with the first mate, a cold shell fish combo. It's a lot of food and it's delicious too. There are so many flavor profiles, sweet, savory, spicy. Also, the complimentary sourdough bread is a great addition to an already wonderful meal. This was my first time here but I will be making my way back again soon.
My daughter and I had dinner here last weekend (afternot having been there since maybe early 2022?) and it was so GOOD! Nothing super fancy but everything was fresh and flavorful, the clam chowder was perfect, and the staff were so nice, which unfortunately is a rarity these days. Nice job Kings, we will be back!
We ordered so much food and it was ALL amazing! 2 dozen of the sampler of oysters, the captain shellfish platter, clam chowder, and a rainbow roll. The shell on the crab was thick and a little hard to handle but that was my only issue. Phoebe was our server and she was great! She was super friendly and made sure we had everything g we needed!
Highly recommend! Outstanding staff. Very nice but casual atmosphere. Great food. Kid friendly (but not run around being loud type of place in my opinion) My son was exhausted from being at the beach all day so he just sat quietly eating.. he ate ALL of his food. The waitress and servers were very attentive to us and him. We all enjoyed it Can't wait to visit again next time I'm in the area.
We loved this place so much we came twice in the same day. First time we arrived around 1130 and they barely had enough servers to be open so the hostess actually became our waitress. I had the “1st mate” seafood platter which was amazing, and my wife the sea bass which she loved. Dinner I had the seafood cobb, the caterpillar sushi roll and my wife had a grilled salmon. Our kids had pasta with marinara and mac&cheese which they really enjoyed. Service in the evening was much better and the food again was amazing. We’ll absolutely be back!
It was a little bit of a wait, but when I say it was worth it! I mean it was worth it! Such a great variety of options on the menu for seafood and non seafood lovers. Everything came out fresh and full of flavor. Surprisingly, it is not that expensive for the quality of food and service. It's definitely a nice restaurant. I'd recommend taking any family who's visiting or just a date night with the fam! 10/10
I came here with a friend for an early dinner. Brook, our server was excellent. I asked what she thought was better, the swordfish tacos or Kings Combo platter. She recommended the latter and i was not disappointed. It was just what I was in the mood for. The Key Lime pie was perfect for dessert. Thanks Brook and team for great service and food!
We had a great experience. Service was excellent, food was good. I enjoyed everything I got but I am not sure I would pay extra for Brussel sprouts next time and choose a different side. I liked the variety of options available especially for those who like seafood. The kids menu was actually an activity book with multiple activities and temporary tattoos. One of us choose shrimp, two of us choose the yellowfin tuna, the kid picked grilled cheese.
- The food quality has remained good even after 4 years, which is positive. - However, the service seemed to be an issue, with a long wait for the waitress. This can be frustrating for diners. - The food is good quality and fresh, which is a key strength. - The wait times for the food itself are not long, which is also positive. - However, you rate the customer service/surface experience as a 7 out of 10, indicating there is room for improvement there. The fact that the food quality and freshness are strong, but the customer service could be better, provides a more balanced assessment. A 7 out of 10 for service suggests it's not terrible, but could use some refinement to reach an excellent level. This is a common challenge restaurants face - getting the food preparation dialed in while also delivering top-notch service. It seems Kingfish house has the food part down well, but may need to focus a bit more on the surface-level interactions with customers to truly excel. Overall, it sounds like King’s fish house is a solid restaurant option, with good food as the foundation, but with an opportunity to enhance the customer service experience to round out the dining experience. A 7 out of 10 for service is respectable, but striving for 8-9 out of 10 could take them to the next level.
Had a great experience. Date night and first time and Kings Fish House. All the food was great, had some crab legs for dinner that didn’t taste right. And had some wonderful appetizers. The manager Dana was a great guy along with server and exchanged our crab leg dinner without any issues and went above and beyond to make it right! They were very attentive. Overall experience was great and will be coming back soon for birthday celebration…Thanks !

Excellent preparation of fish and oysters. It was our anniversary and we ate so much food they sent dessert home with us. So excited to learn they have a restaurant in Arizona near where we live
The food was delicious and the service was phenomenal. Demi casual attire. Thought reasonably priced for California. The oysters were devine. We will be returning.

King’s fish house has renovated their interior and it looks great! Super comfy booths all over. I went for lunch and opted for some sushi and clam chowder. Everything was delicious, the only downside was that the chowder was warm, one of my pet peevs. Ask for it hot if you are ordering. I will go there again! Nice spot.
All around decent, appetizer portion was underwhelming and over cooked, the lobster roll was ok for the money nicely cooked not too salty. Server was attentive and prompt.
Poor service from the White waiter serving a Native American eating alone on Thanksgiving. He never even gave me his name, never asked if I needed anything more, did ask how the meal was, the desert server had to refill my hot water. Also never once said happy Thanksgiving. I even wanted to say thank you for working on Thanksgiving but he was not arrive long enough while I didn't have food in my mouth for that. Oh, and I dropped over $125
The “grill” menu had no seasoning on their grilled fish, no roumalade, and no relish. Very bland. Do not recommend the grill menu - unless you are hypertensive (high blood pressure). Service on Saturday night was poor. Understaffed maybe.
Great sourdough bread. Had 1/2 dozen fresh oyster sampler and two of the dipping sauces were delicious. Kids fish and ship great flavor. Mahi mahi needed more salt. Small portion. Miso soup was way too salty(maybe cause it was closing time), but they changed it for a spicy king soup at no charge. Great customer service and nice atmosphere.
Stopped by for lunch. It was busy. Sat at the bar. Had a couple of drinks, appetizers, and entrees. The drinks were okay. Would try different ones next time. Bread was delicious. The poke was a bit spicy, nice heat where your lips tingle but not on fire. Halibut was macadamia crusted and delicious. Hubby had the lobster roll cold and said maybe hot would have been better, but still good. They have both options hot and cold. The Brussel sprouts and mashed were good. There's a chart on the wall that let's you know what is in season to help make your choice. Plenty of parking. If you go during peak hours, there could be a bit of a wait time.
We came in for lunch. The hostess was super polite despite some older women being unnecessarily rude. The servers jumped in to help get us sat. The bathrooms are super clean as was the entire restaurant. Our server was great at getting the kids food and apps in. We did take our time deciding and the server mixed up some sides putting spinach vs the zucchini, but my mother enjoyed the spinach. The asparagus was cooked perfectly and the service was kind to remind us its an up charge while ordering. My mother really enjoyed scallops. they were beautifully cooked and using lemon juice really enhanced the flavors. The raw oysters were well prepared. They were definitely fresh and came out very quick with a variety of sauces. The kids ordered the grilled cheese which is a buttery sourdough bread even the grownups enjoyed taking a bite. My husband ordered top sirloin with mashed potatoes and Mac and cheese. He didn't care for the Mac and cheese it's definitely on the fancier side. The mashed potatoes are seasoned well. The pine avenue drinks thyme is very strong I like to stick with the Beauregard drink.
Great dining area and outdoor patios. Menu is extensive. I had the Chilean Sea Bass and my wife had the Macadamia Crusted Halibut. Both were good. The halibut was more generous then the bass. The baked potatoes were great. The prices are about what you’d expect. The service was good. Bread with dinner was nice.
Manager was very attentive and helpful when we ran into a glitch. Otherwise, a good family choice. (We were not looking for a family style restaurant this time so that may have influenced our experience)
I read good reviews but was sadly disappointed. I found both the scallops and shrimp chewy and flavorless. Alexis was an excellent server. She didn't like how our creme brulee looked and had us comped. Large place. My husband liked his Chilean sea bass. I'd go back but try something else.
Decent food, great atmosphere, reasonable prices. I really like the remodeled location in Carlsbad feels like you’re stepping into a high-end restaurant. Their sushi is wonderful . They bring really good bread to the table. I tried this spicy Manhattan style seafood soup which wasn’t very good - just too watery for my taste. I would return here to try their other dishes . Seafood in general is expensive and it’s hard to find a good restaurant with fresh fish.
Very nice place but the food quality didn't match the price and the sides were absolutely trash. I know what boxed mash potatoes and crafts Mac and cheese taste like..

Stay clear! Helpful young staff at chain restaurant. Food is terrible! Hard to ruin petrale sole, beer battered fish, Brussels sprouts and mashed potatoes but they pulled it off with no problem!

Kings Fish House may be surviving on the former reputation. The restaurant is large and has tons of seating, but the wait staff and service just can't keep up. They need to go to Nick's on State and observe how good wait and table service is done to get an idea. (Really not trying to be mean they just need a better sytem) one waiter handles wayyy too much. I was wondering where in the world was the bus staff or even a manager to drop by the table to see if your meal was going okay and we were in the beginning of the week. The look of the restaurant in Aesthetics were lovely. The ordering process was okay but took a while and the food delivery took a good amount of time as well. When the food came it was good and we really enjoyed it! To have food that good tied up into a restaurant system that does not work for it is not great, but like I said, the food was great! The Nwalins BBQ Shrimp was amazing. The fish left a little to be desired. Make sure you check out the brioche ice cream sandwhich!! I would recommend checking the wait times and staffing before going.
We were a large party, it was my birthday. The bread was amazing and the buffalo wings delicious. The service was decent. My biggest issue is the temperature of my food. My clam chowder was room temp, I requested another one and it was better but nit great...but then my mashed potatoes were not warm at all and they brought me another one. I ordered the sea bass meal. My dish was Ok. My husband ordered the Salmon meal and he said his salmon was "watery" and lacked flavor. My girls said the fish with the fish and chips were "chewy". The chicken on the Cesar salad lacked flavor. The complimentary dessert was Bread pudding with ice cream. I do not like bread pudding, but my father enjoyed it. We created a great memory and that's what is important.
We were seated promptly at our reservation time. We began with draft Guinness which was spot on. For starters we ordered four different pairs of oysters and some sour dough bread. The bread was delivered right away and was good. However, we were sitting for quite a while when I waved over our server and asked what happened to the oysters. He said he'd check and shortly brought them over. About a minute after the oysters were brought to our table, our main dishes were also placed on the table. The timing was disappointing. We felt rushed to eat the oysters before our mains got cold. The oysters were fresh and two of the four were particularly tasty- the Summerstones and the Old Salt. The Crunchy Lobster roll was nicely done and very crunchy. The trout with almonds was perfectly cooked but somewhat bland. Adding salt and pepper did help. The sides of northern roasted vegetables were quite good, but the corn had a lot of silk mixed in and was disappointing.
the food was pretty good, fries were very salty though. we tried to make a few lighthearted jokes at the beginning when meeting our server to break the ice(which the server should be doing anyways) and the server ignored us and had a straight face. she was very blunt and short with us. not very kind, friendly, or outgoing
The ambiance is as if you were on a ship - wooden interiors, dull lighting, fish murals and models around you...this meal could be anything that you want it to be - an intimate date night, a casual dinner with friends, a work dinner or hangout...the ambiance works for everything. We got a reservation and I don't know if you need one or not, but it worked. We got seated right away. The server was nice enough and didn't bother us too much. The food was so so. We ordered the King's Spicy Seafood Chowder, the grilled Rainbow Trout with sides of mashed potatoes and carrots, and the Lemon Nut Crusted Wild Mexican White sea bass with sides of grilled zucchini and flash fried cauliflower. The seafood chowder was very watery and not spicy, so I'd rather have had the clam chowder instead. I think I expected this to be a spicier version of the clam chowder, so it was disappointing to taste watery soup with some seafood and veggies. The trout was decent but needed some of the lemon sauce from the sea bass and way more butter to make it flavorful. The mashed potatoes needed more seasoning. The carrots were great! The sea bass was the better dish except that the crust was so thick that it felt like it had been breaded and fried twice over. The consistency tasted more like chicken than fish. The zucchini was interesting and we enjoyed it for sure. The cauliflower was also pretty good. Both fish were quite heavy and it took a lot for us to finish them. We ended up taking quite a bit home. Pricing wise, this is expensive for the quality of food. Based on the reviews, I expected more from the food and it did not deliver. We might be back but will see.

on the expensive side for an average meal. Even vegetables were average and there was an additional charge for some sides. No issues with service but there were only a handful of patrons.
-service, 3 star. \n-Free bread, 5 star\n-King combo platter, 3 star. It tasted off like the oil was not at the right temperature before frying. You can totally taste the difference with the fries.…

We ended up at King’s Fish House because we were in the area and I was in the mood for seafood. The restaurant was busy but despite that, we were seated in less than five minutes. They gave my daughter a coloring menu along with stickers and tattoos which made her quite happy. The staff was friendly but, the service was slow and negligent. The lapse in service wouldn’t have been as noticeable if the food was on point. We ordered crab cakes, chicken strips, New England lobster roll, fish and chips. Everything was either overcooked, dry or under seasoned. I also ordered their agave sting cocktail which was missing the “sting.” We paid approximately $200 for dinner/drinks and left feeling disappointed.
I never write reviews so trust me this one is honest and real. The food was just NOT worth the money! Now the service was fine & our waitress was sweet so nothing against that. Food: We got oysters half dozen to share. 5/6 oysters were tasty! One of them was so bitter and disgusting I knew it was not a fresh oyster. But the other 5/6 were delicious! For entree I got the lemon nut sea bass and it tasted fine just on the dryer side like it was cooked a bit too long. I ate it all but I wouldn’t get it again. I’ve had sea bass before and it melts in your mouth. Versus this one was very chewy. My boyfriend got the salmon and it was fine just bland (literally no seasoning). Sides: Mashed potatoes were amazing! However the Cauliflower had 0 seasoning….. I had to add salt to get some what of a taste otherwise it was like eating plain warm soft cauliflower. Brussels sprouts and asparagus were NOT cooked long enough bc they were HARD. The toppings on the brussels sprouts were tasty (bacon, balsamic glaze). But the brussel sprouts themselves were literally hard which was so disappointing :(. And I didn’t even eat the asparagus because again it was hard. For an extra $3.50 they could’ve actually cooked these longer so we didn’t feel like we were eating warm raw vegetables. Same for brussel sprouts it’s an extra $3.50. Oh and it’s SMALL PORTIONS for these sides! Take that into account don’t spend extra money on the brussel sprouts and asparagus because you just get a few pieces so it’s not worth the additional charge. We assumed the additional charge would be because we were getting big portions when we got like 5 pieces. Drinks: I understand restaurants have to up charge to make a profit but come on….. $25 for half a bottle of Kendall Jackson Chardonnay is wild….….. So moral of the story, food was not worth it. Yeah it’s a chill & pretty atmosphere, nice waitress and hostess, but the food is not worth it.
Spent $130 on food that tasted like it was reheated with no flavor and accommodated with very basic customer service. Been here 3 times before but it's been at least a year. Something has shifted and I guess they don't want to serve fresh food anymore. Even my kids wouldn't eat their food. They said their fish was soggy, like it was reheated in a microwave. None of us ate more than a quarter of our plates. It was not appetizing at all. Left feeling very upset we spent $130 on food we couldn't eat. Won't go back there again. Which is disappointing because it use to be very good and a vibrant place to go.
The food here is consistently excellent and the service here is almost always excellent. However, tonight one waitress put a huge damper on our entire experience. We had a reservation for 8 o'clock…
I usually don’t leave reviews, but my experience at King’s Fish House in Carlsbad was disappointing. Myra, was extremely rude to me and my wife during our lunch — no greeting, unfriendly attitude, and overall made us feel unwelcome. What really stood out was seeing her speak disrespectfully to a delivery driver right in front of customers. The food itself was okay, but the poor customer service completely ruined the experience. It’s unfortunate, because I’ve heard good things about this location, but after this visit, I won’t be coming back.
Despite King's Fish House being touted as a top-rated restaurant in Carlsbad, our experience failed to meet expectations, resulting in significant disappointment. The food quality was subpar, characterized by overly greasy and flavorless calamari and fish and chips. Furthermore, the French fries were served cold! While the oysters were a notable exception, my boys found small shells in them. Though, the poke were the only one that was okay. The server, Kathleen (Lena), appeared unenthusiastic, taking an inordinate amount of time to fulfill our basic requests for hot sauce and water. As a result, I would not recommend King's Fish House and do not plan to return.
We came to King’s Fish House on 9/12/25 around 4:50–4:55 PM and had one of the worst experiences I’ve ever had at a restaurant. The two hosts (a male and female) didn’t greet us at all—if anything, they looked annoyed that we were there. When we were seated outside (closest to the front lobby), the hostess tossed crayons onto the table for our toddler without a word, like she was fed up, and then just walked away without telling us who our server would be. Another server who wasn’t even ours kindly brought us water and let us know our waitress would be with us. I even overheard him telling her he had gotten us water. Instead of coming over to greet us, she walked right past our table and went straight to another party that had arrived later to take their order. The host staff was shockingly rude and unwelcoming, and our assigned waitress ignored us completely. The only positive was that I’ll never recommend it or visit this place again due to our experience and how they tossed crayons towards the table at near my child. I emailed the GM and their HQ but no response, which I’m not surprised.
2019-05-07 Update We came for my birthday and everything was served lukewarm. We complained and they brought replacements and THEY were only lukewarm. The only entree that was good was the sand dabs. The Brussels sprouts are awful. See photo. Burned and and bad tasting. To their credit they comped two of the entrees and offered two free desserts. I’m reducing them friendly five stars to one. I am embarrassed that we brought our guests here. Too bad! 2018-07-26 update We came here with my parents for their 66th anniversary tonight. The food was excellent as before, but once again my grilled fish dish was warm, not hot. The other people in the party ordered fried fish and it was very hot when It was served. Our server was excellent and did a great job and so I am going to increase the review to five stars because of the outstanding job that he did. His name was Chip. ========= Very good fish and great view. Good service too. We are outside and it was very pleasant. My fish arrived warm but not hot. I speculate that it sat out on the ready counter too long before being served. Our server was very pleasant and helpful. If only the first had been actually hot this would be a five star review. Sorry but cooked food should be served hot.
Worst crab and shrimp that I have ever had. Shrimp was fried and had absolutely no flavor at all. Crab had terrible taste, mashed potatoes came out of a box and were cold when served. My freind had a steak order it medium and it came very rare. Our server was very inattentive and to us ( for example would walk by our empty beverage glasses and never say a thing). All of these problems on a slow night.
Good evening, I am writing to express my disappointment with the cioppino I ordered to go this evening. For a $40 entrée, the quality and portion were far below any reasonable expectation. The dish contained very few scallops or calamari, the lobster was entirely missing, and there were only three small crab legs. Additionally, the shrimp were cooked whole with the vein left in, and the strings carried throughout the sauce, which significantly affected both the texture and overall enjoyment of the dish. This was not a minor issue but a fundamental problem with preparation, portioning, and quality control. A dish at this price point should reflect care, completeness, and proper execution, none of which were present here. I felt it was important to bring this to your attention, as this experience was extremely disappointing.
$35 for my scallops plate. Each scallop about the size of a quarter. Mashed potatoes about 1/3 size of my palm. 1/4 cup veggies (if that!). Wife had two fish tacos with about 7 tortilla chips. Dad had the same. Mom had chicken salad. Bill came up to $139.00. Safe to say won’t be fleeced again eating here.

King's Fish House in Carlsbad: A Local Take on Seafood with a Few Quirks
Carlsbad locals know King's Fish House as a pretty consistent spot when the craving for seafood hits. It’s certainly a nice place, with an atmosphere that feels right for a relaxed but still special meal out. And generally, the service is spot on. I've heard stories of hostesses going above and beyond, like when a friend needed to shift their reservation last minute on a busy Saturday night, and the staff was incredibly accommodating. That kind of flexibility really makes a difference. Now, le...
