A classic American take on Scottish hospitality. The food is consistently excellent as is the personable service…although we have yet to stay overnight, I would expect the same for accommodations. The reason for this are simply the quality of staff. Of note is Terry ( who is always sure to greet you with his comfortable classy ways). Also the bar staff is so great, you would travel far to meet any better. Hank stands out (fast, friendly and kind). Be sure to get the Haggis!
I make a point of staying at the Brae Loch every time I'm in the Cazenovia area (roughly 3 times a year for business) and I hope that never changes. I take great pride in my Scottish heritage and I really appreciate the effort the owners take to present a taste of Scotland here in America. I travel all over the northeast regularly and I can honestly say the rooms are not only more comfortable than any hotel I've stayed at for a comparable price, they have far more charm. As for the food: get the steak. If you're a scotch fan, their selection is impressive.
The food alone was a TEN. You look at what others ordered and iI wished I ordered that dish too!!The down stairs tavern is like stepping back in time. Scotch selection OMG. The rooms had antique appointments . The free breakfast has a good variety to choose from. Walking distance to the lake. Short drive to chittenago falls. Bartender s waiters waitresses all great wearing Scottish attire. Never been to a place like this. Had a fantastic time. I highly recommend Brae loch!
We stopped in on Mother's Day for a drink and not thinking we were having dinner because we didn't have reservations. So we were enjoying our drinks that the bartender remembered from other times we ordered them. :) Then Terry (mater'd) ask us if we were having dinner and I said no we didn't have a reservation and he said, I do have a table if you like? I was like that sounds great lets take it. We were very grateful for his offering. We have dealt with him many times and he is always very friendly and a huge asset to the Inn. So again we had a very delicious dinner and drinks and my fiance is vegan and they have menu items for her which is usually an issue at MOST resturants still today. But they are very accommodating to all our needs. And their hospitality is second to none. I have been staying there and eating for the past 30 years and never have been disappointed. Everyone is so nice and will remember you and what you like. Their rooms are beautiful and cozy as is the whole Inn. and they have a amazing room and dinner deal too. Rod & Patricia
Just visited the restaurant bar. The seafood Ramen was over the top!!! Loved the scotch flight and amber ale too. Felt right at home.
This place is truly a beautiful, romantic gem. It is wonderful for a weekend getaway and highly recommended. It has charming decor and a honey layout. We had a wonderful jacuzzi bath in our room and it was very romantic. The continental breakfast was quite extensive and excellent. Nice coffee and tea, various high quality pastries, berries and cream, various hot cereals, and quiche. Service was pleasant and attentive. The town itself is quaint and lovely with a nice waterfront park right across from the Inn. We will very likely stay here again.
Just enjoyed a nice dining experience here with a large group! The staff was pleasant and warm! The food was amazing! I don't believe I have been there to eat in over 10 years. It was a very good time and they made us feel very welcome!
Having spent very enjoyable summer evenings in the garden area, with live music, I made a reservation for Thanksgiving Day Dinner. It was an amazing event. The wonderful owners and hosts, James and Valerie were in close attendance and the setting in the downstairs main dining room, with open fire and beautiful seasonal decorations, made it a perfect setting. The staff are exceptional and many of them have been at the Brae Loch Inn for a long time. So professional and welcoming at all times. The Thanksgiving menu was a banquet, multiple choices and portions. I was fortunate enough to take photos with the owners and staff to share with my dearest friends in London, England and Florida. How they wish they could have been here with me to enjoy this very special occasion. Thank you so much to everyone at the Inn…. you all did a wonderful job. A very special Family Owned Hotel. Amazing service and incredible food. We came here for our 11th anniversary. We had reservations and we were seated right away. After a few moments the waitress approached us and asked if we would like to move to a table that had a better view which I thought was so nice! We got the bonfire shrimp, filet mignon, lobster, and prime rib. Everything was absolutely incredible. The green beans and baked potato side were also amazing. Seriously haven’t had better food in this area as long as I can remember. They also brought us a cute complimentary dessert for our anniversary. We will definitely be back
We went to the BLI with another couple on Friday night. The atmosphere was great. Customers were in high gear to enjoy the start of Robert Burns weekend. Our meals were so tasty and done to perfection! (Bravo to the cook) and our waitress was very attentive. Thanks to the Barr family for a wonderful night out. Tom and Nancy Stevens
Great service! We didn't have reservations they served us full menu in bar area. The food was great and beers were cold, girls had drinks and they enjoyed them. Owners are awesome people working the floor making sure customers are happy! Thank you
Another fabulous dining experience at the Brae Loch Inn. We had our small company Christmas Party Dinner near the fireplace. Beautiful setting and delicious food. The salmon special with coconut rice was terrific. Thank you!
We went her for dinner with 16 people tonight. The service was terrific and the food was great. The prime rib was spot on and the wygu steak carpaccio was delicious. I was really impressed at the timing of our appetizer and then dinner.
Went to the restaurant for a birthday dinner, and we were lucky to have live music, which added to the experience. The service was excellent, and the food (I got the duckling) was amazing!! It was my first time eating there and not my last. I will be making a trip back.
listen...not to brag but I go to I stay at alot of nice places, a perk or my career and lifestyle, this place is amazing. Excellent accommodations, WORLD CLASS SCOTCH BAR, (25+ years for multiple vintages), and meet a couple whose cousin was a waiter there and got treated like royalty for no reason other than they the great folks who work here. Great room and food, killer bar. Rebooted twice so far. 4.5 stars
Love the old school ambiance. We got a table next to the fire. Really dark inside, but I liked that aspect. Food was a bit pricey but everything tasted wonderful. Nice scotch selection. We will be back! Waitress was busy but she accommodated us nicely.
Was there this past weekend May 3rd to May 5th. What a wonderful experience, when planning our elopement this beautiful Inn fit our my requirements. I needed dog friendly, for my 8lb Cavalier spanial, food as close to British fare as possible...Scots and Brits very similar plates, and historically themed. They hit all the marks! The room was warm, cozy, and the bed amazingly comfortable, I requested champagne and a cheese/fruit platter (as we would be getting in late, and would have eaten on the road, so just something light) it was spot on, fruit was fresh, crackers were heart shaped, cheese was a nice chedder. Champagne was a classic selection. They had live music, the place was hopping, and you could tell it was the place to gather with friends and family. Lots of smiles and greetings from everyone. Staff was very attentive, and I felt a real connection. The following morning, we enjoyed coffee, and quiche from the continental breakfast selection, while sitting by the fireplace enjoying the ambiance of all the Scotchish antiquity. For dessert this evening I requested a mini wedding style fruitcake for the two of us. Not only was our dinner a wonderful feast, the mini wedding cake exceeded my expectations. This Inn is a very special place, everyone was friendly, helpful, and seemed to really enjoy working there. We will return, I just discovered the ghost tour, which I felt I did experience an encounter. We stayed in Robert The Bruce room 13, which apparently is one of the active spots. A big thank you to all the fine folks at the Inn for making my wedding weekend so special 💕
Love the ambiance at the Brae Loch; it's always a special occasion there, even when it's just a simple dinner. (Unfortunately, the very best thing on the menu, the out-of-this-world Cullen Skink, is only seldom available. I've been lucky enough to catch it once in all my visits to the Brae Loch. I suggest just taking it off the menu and offering it as a special when it's available, to avoid disappointing the fans!). In winter, grab a spot by the fire downstairs. Like being in a Dickens Christmas fantasy.
Wonderful amazing inn. We loved it here. Old Victorian with some history. Owner is a welcoming hostess. She gave us a history tour of the place. Some ghost stories too. Yes the place is happily haunted. When we arrived and went to our room (number 13), we were greeted by two disembodied voices. A woman and a child. It was quite an experience. The food here is amazing. The service is wonderful. We loved this place and will stay here again.
Besides being in a weird carpeted kinda creepy basement, the food was amazingly delicious, and that’s what I came for.
Stayed on a Friday night in June. The restaurant patio was full of locals and hotel guests. There was live music. Great food and service at the restaurant. Hotel staff was also kind and welcoming. The room was cozy. The staff was also welcoming to my dog. In the morning, I enjoyed the continental breakfast on the patio as well. It's across the street from a small lakeside park, and a short walk into town. Great place to stay.
My sister and I had our 30th bday celebration at brae loch in their event space. It was a fantastic night and the staff were amazing! My friends had a great time and the ambiance was perfect with the fire place, cozy chairs and couches to the pool table! If you’re having an event consider their space!
Excellent accommodations and the best food in town. From shepherds pie, authentic haggis, to an amazing selection of Scotch and beer, there is nothing you won't love on the menu. Absolutely stellar service and magnificent atmosphere with classic stylings. We will certainly be returning many times in future.
Great haunted hotel. Super cool old timey feel. The staff was super friendly, even got them to give us a ghost tour the next day after we missed the night ones. Stayed there 2 times now and can't wait to go back, need to eat at the restaurant. Such a nice town, and just a super relaxing spot.
I actually used Brae Loch Inn for catering my wedding reception as well as blocked out the Inn for my guests and it was the best decision. The Inn was the perfect place for everyone to meet, see old faces and enjoy a nice welcome glass of scotch. The morning breakfast was a great way to start the day with friends and there were gluten free options, which was perfect. Allowing pets was make or break for some of my guests so that was a blessing and my little pug sure loved it. Everyone had a great time having an after party in the basement bar. The Catering was AMAZING! The food was incredible. We did the clambake and everything was so delicious. My guests have not stopped talking about the chicken! I loved the clams. They also manned the bar and the service was great and the cocktails were on point. Planning the party with Brae Lock was so nice and accommodating, they catered to every detail we wanted and nailed it. We did not use a wedding planner, and Brae Lock really made it feel stress free and like we were in good hands. I highly recommend if you want a beautiful and fun wedding weekend and to come off like a professional wedding planner, book with Brae Loch, you will not be sorry!
The BL is such a gem! You get scotch when you check in. We called to say we’d be late for dinner, so they took our order over the phone and everything was just about ready when we arrived. Guinness Pie is amazing and HOT! Authentic, homemade desserts. Great, relaxed continental breakfast. Rooms are awesome. Great bar and game room downstairs.
We didn't stay at the hotel - just went there to eat. The restaurant was quite lively and full of patrons to enjoy the live music on a Friday evening. The food was great and the servers are very attentive. While checking out the common areas and getting lost in the maze of corridors nooks & niche you'll notice the charming and exquisite decor of a faraway land in a bygone era. The hospitality provided by the staff is impecable and personal like if you visited your favorite aunt's house. On a nice clear day you can head down to the nearby Lakeland Park Pier and watch the sunset.
This is by far our favorite restaurant in the Syracuse area. The food is exceptional and the prices are exceedingly fair. We have gone for every special occasion over the last couple years, anything from celebrating a promotion to New Year's Eve to Valentine's Day. They have custom menus for holidays and periodically change their main menu throughout the year. I highly recommend The Brae Loch for anyone looking for a fine dining experience.
We stayed at the Inn for 2 nights and was absolutely great. The Inn is very cozy and comfortable. There are chairs and places you can relax everywhere. The rooms are spacious, very warm and interesting. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. We’re already planning on a stay next year.
First off, the atmosphere is AMAZING!! Just looking around the place was an experience!!! And the food was the icing on the cake!! My buddy and I split the Scotch Smoked Salmon. Heavenly!! I had the Guinness Steak Pie and he had the rack of lamb. Everything was excellent!! Not enough good things could be said about the whole experience!! OUTSTANDING!!!!
Stayed here Father's Day weekend in June 2024. Visiting from PA. Buried my father in Syracuse, NY on Saturday, had a post-funeral reception at the Brae Loch that was quite nice. We occupied the third level apartment that was complete with three bedrooms, a kitchen, living room, and two baths. The rooms were quite nice, the living room had a large u-shaped sofa and flat screen with a great view of Cazenovia. We felt very much at home while staying here. Our son wandered off from the suite and couldn't get back in, the inn staff set him up in the billiards room where we found him safe and sound (10 years-old). We ended up staying down there opening a tab, playing pool and chatting with other patrons late into the night.
Loved it. We both ordered the prime rib and it was prepared well. Super friendly staff. Good wine selection and reasonably priced. French onion soup was excellent as well and worth noting. We also stayed the night and it was very unique. The room we stayed in, called Robert the Bruce, is pictured. The bed was extremely comfortable and the room was clean. I believe this establishment is family owned and they seem to take a lot of pride in what they do. There are only a dozen or so rooms so plan ahead. We will definitely return.
We had our wedding here and thoroughly enjoyed our experience! The staff was fast, efficient, and kind. They even took it upon themselves to turn off over 100 electric candles without being asked! The food was excellent and the potions were generous. The second floor is charming and warm -- perfect for our small wedding. We rented a beautiful, spacious room for the night and had a delicious breakfast in the morning. They had gluten free quiche! We happened to meet the owners and their dog Murphy. They were so nice and down-to-earth. Overall, we are so happy we chose the Brae Loch and will be back for dinner and another stay! Thank you!!
First indoor dining experience since last March . Worth the wait . Tables were well spaced, and we felt really comfortable. Glad the main ( upstairs) dining rooms were being utilized, as they are much “airier” than downstairs. Every dish was superb. Great service too! My rack of lamb was memorable. This restaurant never disappoints.
Great food and great atmosphere the fire places were lit and added warmth and ambiance to the dining experience. The food was amazing we even tried the haggis and tasted awesome. The service was amazing and everyone was so nice.
Located in beautiful Cazenovia, NY, this hotel has so much history inside its walls. Rooms are super comfy, very Scottish theme, food is delicious. A great place for gatherings, outside patio as well as cozy dining room. Staff was very helpful, check in and out was super easy. I will definitely be back.
Every time I get the chance to eat here I have the best time and the best food. I would say this is probably the best food that I’ve ever had the pleasure of eating. Honestly they are doing it right here. Shoutout to the owners for hiring really amazing staff. The servers are always nice, attentive, and make you feel like they want you to have the most amazing experience possible. The head chef that creates the menu and they allow to outsource local food and make amazing thoughtful and well presented dishes is probably one of the most inspired chefs in our area. He’s the reason I will continue to think of the brae loch for amazing tasty food and great service!
An absolute gem. You cannot find another place with the same atmosphere. It's not perfect, but that's what gives it character. The staff are awesome. Terry was very accommodating. The food served here is a bit pricey, but you get what you pay for!
Had ourselves a beautiful dinner here last night and this place is simply put, magical. The atmosphere is like none other, very old style classic, and beautiful! The food is indescribably delicious and yet homey and cozy. We were lucky enough to eat during a non peak time and had some privacy near the fire and the experience and feeling was just warm and pleasant. I highly recommend anything on the menu again old style classic- doesn’t disappoint!
Absolutely loved this place. We were on our way further north and the snow caught up with us so we decided to go here from great reviews and I have to say it was incredible. Very nice charming feel like that big expensive resort Mohonk mountain but very reasonably priced. Restaurant below was a great treat , lobster Mac & cheese was so delicious. Charming fun place to rest. We actually stayed a few extra days because it was that good.
This cozy, Scottish themed restaurant is family owned. They seated our party of four quickly, and table service was excellent. The bar has an impressive array of Scotch and other whiskies. My dinner included a seafood stew appetizer that was full of seafood and veggies, and a duck entree with orange glaze with sides of baked potato and green beans. It was done well and tasted delicious. Others at the table had haggis, and a Guinness pie that was stuffed with lamb and veggies. All agreed their meals were great.
This place is a gem... Highly recommend. It's very reasonable and has a whole vibe, a nice little getaway. Highly recommend.
We love staying and dining at The Brae Loch. The rooms are charming and interesting. The Restaurant is wonderful and offers many dining and seating options. We also love the staff members in every part of the inn.
The lower level where Dakota is manng the massive bar is truly amazing. I have 3 businesses in Arizona and if I could convince him and his new wife to move Iwould! In a heart beat!
This was our first visit to the Brae Loch Inn, but we will definitely be returning. From the time you enter, you feel welcomed and relaxed. All of the decor is amazing! So many Scottish antiques. We took a ghost tour led by owner Valerie Barr. Valerie was such a friendly, gracious host. You can see that she truly cares about making sure her guests have a wonderful stay. It was so interesting to hear the history of the place, and some unique occurrences there too. The room was wonderful, and the bed was so comfortable. There are so many little places, at the inn, to gather with friends, or relax, as a couple, by a fire with a glass of scotch. The dinner was phenomenal, and the service was excellent! And, if you’re a scotch drinker, the bar downstairs has so many varieties to choose from, and very knowledgeable bartenders. We loved it so much that we are trying to plan a trip with friends, later this year.
It's a very nice restaurant in a great location. The food is good and so are the drinks. They also occasionally have live music. The big secret though is, if you’re looking for the pinnacle of sophistication and class, look no further than the basement dive bar of this restaurant. There's nothing quite like the ambiance of sipping your drink in a dimly lit basement during the day—truly the height of class. And then there's the well dressed older gentleman who seems to always be there, maybe he works there, who knows? What we do know is that he definitely adds to the ambiance. Every time we’re there, he’s usually aggressively drunk and has no problem hurling some light-handed insults our way, especially if we dare to play darts. Apparently, someone in his family plays darts in New Jersey, and that means us plebs are dart-throwing-trash! The whole experience is just hilariously charming in its own way. If basement day drinking with a side of gruff, old-people banter sounds like your thing, the basement dive is your adventure.
Over the years the Brae Loch has become “our” place, a favorite of ours for a unique atmosphere & great food. When we were looking for wedding venues, this was the first place that came to mind. We just had our wedding here. What an awesome venue, with an amazing atmosphere. Staff was great, very accommodating! We hired our own decorator, and everything came out perfect. Food was delicious! Couldn’t have hoped for a better day!
We were greeted at the door with treats for the dog and help with our suitcase. We stayed for two nights. Since we were in town for a reunion we can’t comment on the food, but the complimentary breakfast had fresh fruit and homemade quiche and pastries and the complimentary single malt was an unexpected treat. Wonderful friendly service, great hospitality and atmosphere and a very comfortable room.
The Inn itself is incredible. There are so many books and crannies to explore, not to mention perfectly curated antiques to compliment the Scottish theme. Staff was super friendly. Jen was very kind and professional when booking a room, and Libbye was an amazing hostess. She checked is in and was our tour guide for the ghost tour. Met one of the cooks who seemed passionate about his job. Also, DOGS are allowed!! We got to pet a few. They even have a treat jar for the floofers 🥹
My husband & I decided to take a one night getaway to the Brae Loch Inn last minute after researching some cool historic inns semi-close by to our location. The Brae Loch was rated as one of the best so we decided to give it a shot! As soon as we walked in we felt beyond welcomed! We were greeted with complimentary drinks, asked if we wanted dinner reservations or if there was anything we needed. We wandered a bit to check out the amazing decor & stumbled across another couple with their pup (this inn is very dog friendly!) We socialized a bit then headed upstairs to the amazingly clean, well decorated, & cozy rooms the beds are beyond comfortable, & rooms very spacious. We ordered food for the night which was some of the best food we have had in a long time. It is more of a fine dining restaurant, & not cheap but it is 100% well worth the fare! Breakfast was also amazing with tons of options. would highly recommend the Brae Loch Inn to anyone!
Amazing food and service. We made a reservation for 6 people and there was a private event going on at the same time. Service was spectacular all the way from being greeted though the entire dinner. Appetizers were amazing, the bambam shrimp are delicious, and the fresh bread. We all shared a taste of our plates. Absolutely the best French onion soup. Chicken Marsala was delicious, the surf and turf was the best I've ever had. My rack of lamb was prepared perfectly. The dessert's looked amazing, but honestly I didn't even have room. Looking forward to going back and I'll make sure to take some dinner home and enjoy the fresh made desserts.
Favorite gathering spot. Our family always gets together here and never feels rushed.
We visited the Brae Loch Inn Restaurant for a Valentine's Day dinner, the same Brae Loch where we had our rehearsal dinner 48 years ago. Time has seemingly not passed in this unique, Scottish-themed restaurant. The ambiance, the excellent quality of our dinner, and the above excellence of professionalism demonstrated by our server, Chauna, made our dining experience one that we'll never forget. I highly recommend the Brae Loch for any occasion.
If there were 6 stars then I would give them 5 stars. I was there for a friends wedding 3 weeks ago and the entire staff was the friendiless I have experienced in a long. Special shot out to Kim who definitely took care of us at the downstairs bar. Can't wait to come back and stay again here!
This was my second stay at the Brae Loch. First time with my husband & this time with a friend who was visiting from Canada. My friend absolutely loved the charm of this place. She kept exclaiming, there is nothing like this back home. Dinner was amazing & they make the best drinks. We've decided to make this a yearly trip, trying a different room each visit. Thank you for keeping this place to it's original charm ✨️
The Brae Loch is a treasure! The environment is warm, inviting and has a rich appreciation of history. The food is delightful and well made. I highly recommend the duck and steak dishes. The menu is well labeled with multiple vegan and gf options. The service is always a home run. There is a cozy bar, lounge and formal dining seating. There is often live music. This place is a must visit!
The most lovely place ever! We stayed here for one night, we arrived to our dinner reservation late but they could not have been kinder about it. We have two dogs, and they were extremely accommodating, bringing the dogs treats and water. We had a fabulous steak dinner, and the food was delicious and came out quickly. The star of the show aside from the service was the beautiful ambiance and rooms. Every different room was decorated to perfection, with beautiful Christmas trees and roaring fires. Additionally, the bed was like sleeping in the hands of an angel (we are dying to know the brand of mattress). All in all, this was an exquisite experience and we cannot wait to come back to this gem of a place!
We met our 2 Sisters there, which stayed overnight. We all went downstairs and had a fabulous dinner with an Amazing & Lovely waitress ❤️ We had a great time and the food was amazing. We took pictures, sat by the fireplace and enjoyed our visit with them. They just Loved being there, their first time. It was like walking into Grandma's House 🏠 So warm and cozy. We all relaxed and had so much fun together ❤️ ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ Looking forward to our next visit together! Thank you 🥰
I was here for a union meeting/ dinner. Our waitress was excellent. They have a huge scotch selection. I had the Guinness steak pie. It was excellent. Everyone there said their food was excellent. Definitely want to go there again as this was my first time going there.
After having my wedding here just over a week ago, I have nothing but positive things to say about the Brae Loch and its staff! Jen was an absolutely stellar event coordinator, meeting with us several times over the year and a half we'd been planning there. We blocked all the rooms for our closest family & friends, and I've heard everyone loved their stays. I got to see a few different rooms myself and was amazed by the varying themes. The breakfast, though continental, actually had more options than we expected, including quiches and waffles to heat up. The ambiance of the inn truly made our entire wedding weekend stand out. Despite the peak fall colors, we even chose to utilize the inn's gorgeous interiors for our wedding portraits. I cannot possibly overstate the EXCEPTIONAL service provided by the staff at our wedding. Lina was on top of any need of ours all night, which we were so grateful for. Dakota at the bar was so friendly, and all our guests let us know just how welcome every single staff member made them feel. I wish I could have gotten to speak to and thank them all individually! Our guests were especially impressed with how efficient the servers were with bar service & food platters during cocktail hour, running large orders quickly from downstairs to the tent outside. The food at the buffet was delicious & fresh - they even accommodated our guests on dietary restrictions with individual plates served directly to their tables. The Brae Loch recently debuted their brand new communal table, which we were glad to use as the "head table" at our wedding. The woodwork was stunning, and I imagine that will be a beautiful addition to the restaurant longterm. The staff also assisted in laying out our (minimal) decor - candle holders with electric tealight candles - before the reception, and collecting them after for us to take. As a largely DIY bride, that was such a weight off my shoulders! I could go on, but I'd really like to thank Val, Jen, and everyone at the Brae Loch that contributed to our most magical weekend! We feel so lucky that this is the place we can return to for future anniversary trips!
We had the loveliest stay at the Brae Loch Inn with an absolutely delicious dinner at the Inn’s restaurant. This little hotel is a true gem, overlooking beautiful Lake Cazenovia and within very easy walking distance to the little town. After we explored the area, we were treated to a complimentary scotch tasting by the Inn’s friendly staff. We hung out by the fireplace before heading downstairs for one of the best dinners of our lives! Everything was exceptional: canapés, bread board, prime rib, and the Guinness pie. So rich! We split the cheesecake for dessert and it was sublime. After a restful sleep, we were delighted to discover the continental breakfast featured a variety quiches and breakfast pizzas. Absolutely amazing and apparently a Central NY tradition. We loved our time at Brae Loch and cannot wait to visit again. Thank you for a wonderful weekend!
Spontaneous trip to Caze recommended by a bartender in Chittenango… had the absolute best experience! Felt the beautiful atmosphere, warm welcoming and awesome service/conversation. Dakota was an amazing time to be around! He made us feel right at home being from out of town. Would 100% recommend visiting and spending some time around the area. Good food, even better service!
My husband and I stayed here for one night as a way to celebrate my 40th birthday and also our 20th wedding anniversary! It was absolutely beautiful! The location is gorgeous, The staff were very kind and accommodating, and the food in the restaurant downstairs was delicious! We also had some local wine! I told my husband that I definitely want to stay here again in the future! Thank you for helping us create a precious memory!
I stayed here while on a business trip but fell in love with the atmosphere. The roooms are spatious and clean, the food is delicious, the pub is cozy, and the location is beautiful. The Brae Loch is so wonderful its a destination unto itself. I hope to come back with my family just for the sake of visiting again.
Today is Dakota's birthday. He spent a good amount of time explaining the history of this beautiful place. And the gentleman Terry showed me to the bar. I had a Cold Coke. And so began the history and the heart warming conversation. About his job and the background of the amazing family that has owned it, called the Barrs. It is so nice to see that still after 5 years here. He was genuinely happy part of a family that own the Loch Brae Inn. For many, many generations.
This is the most charming hotel I've been to in quite some time. It has such character, beautiful decor, and the staff are all very kind. The food is wonderful as well, and they're very pet friendly. The location couldnt be better situated just across the street from a beautiful lake, and the neighborhood around the hotel features gorgeous architecture. I'll absolutely be back.
It’s one of the coziest places that I’ve been to. The whole place is so well decorated. It’s a Scottish place and evenly corner is so beautifully done. Rooms are amazing and their service is good. People are very friendly. We had dinner too and would highly suggest their Scottish Ale. Overall an amazing experience. Would highly recommend this place.
We spent three nights at the Brae Loch, loved it! Every staff member we met was wonderful. Nights were quiet, the restaurant was amazing (make a reservation!), and it was completely relaxing. Coffee/great continental breakfast on the patio was the perfect way to start our day.
I remember this place from childhood, more than 55 years ago. It really hasn't changed much. It still has a nice atmosphere and food was above average. Parking was easy and dining service good. We stayed overnight and found beds comfortable, room clean. The building is old and rooms flooring uneven so be careful if you are older. Most concerning were spots in flooring where you felt the floor sink under your weight. A bit unnerving to be honest. We skipped showering in the morning as hot water just never seemed to get very hot. We weren't the only overnight guests to note this. To summarize: nice place to dine, lodging could be better.
Menu is pricey, however the quality and presentation is totally on point for the cost. Very attentive staff, your glass will never get to empty. It’s a great Irish themed venue, with lots of old world charm decor.
Nice little inn. Scottish themed with lots of history. Upon checking in we were offered a glass of scotch or cream sherry. We didn't take them up on the offer because we had dinner reservations for later. There was a nice little continental breakfast in the morning as well. It's a cool place to wander around in and wonder about who lives here and what life was like for them
The room was comfortable, but it wasn't the room I thought I had requested. I was sure I had requested a fireplace room. Room. 17 has a very comfortable bed and was very clean. I hadn't requested a hottub but I'm sure many would love it. The decor was nothing like I expected from the Brae Lock. It wasn't classic and beautiful as their other rooms. The service was pretty good. The bartender needed help. We wanted to order dinner but she was unable to return to take our order due to a large influx of customers. We had to move to a table to order dinner. Then, we discovered the computer system does not send the bar bill to the same bill as the restaurant. We had to charge two different bills but that really wasn't a big deal. I have always loved the location and do intend to return. I will make sure I get the room I am hoping for in the future. Most rooms are beautifully decorated.
Stayed in August. Met friends for dinner there as well. Room was spacious. Food was good.
I just went to the restaurant. It's a dark, cozy, charming and very old fashioned restaurant. Great location right on the main street in Cazenovia. The food was tasty overall, but the Haggis wasn't very authentic. Perhaps that's a good thing. On the other hand, the crab cakes were truly excellent. Unfortunately, the service was rather slow and the prices are on the high side. This restaurant is still recommended for a unique, distinctly Scottish experience.
Dinner was good , it seemed better 1st visit last year . My wife got surf and turf , few pieces of cartilage was in the lobster , the filet was quite dry ( for both of us ) . The mashed potatoes were very dry ! The vegetables were real good . I tried haggis , it was ok , the onion soup was terrific, the bread plate was fantastic. You can’t beat the atmosphere, so cool and charming .
Location was good given the town itself. The entire Inn is a walk through Scottish history, it’s worth staying a night or two. They do offer continental breakfast however I recommend grabbing a coffee then heading somewhere else (for breakfast). The Cazenovia Bagel place is amazing… Super chill overall & cool place.
For the past few years, we stay at the Brae Loch for our anniversary. It has always been a wonderful experience. Each year we choose a different room to stay in. They have all been charming and very interesting. Beware of the Robert the Bruce room though. This is the room we just stayed in, and it had lukewarm water for the shower.
My husband and I had fun using the pool room. I can't comment on anything else. The free pool table isn't quite billiard size but larger than a bar room table. It's a tucked away spot with a fireplace and seating area, more like a basement lounge. If you are lucky, grab a drink and enjoy the room to yourself.
Had french onion soup delicious and seem home made. Really solid ingredients large salad adequate margarite meat lover pizza w cauliflower crust delicious and light. We will return ate outside. The waiter staff puts in a lot of steps... tip them !!
Very cute place and lovely patio, but the food was pretty disappointing. Nice presentation, but the flavors weren't there. Brie was so sweet it should be a dessert, not an appetizer. Duck was unfortunately overcooked and held a very gamey flavor, which goes away when cooked properly. For the price, the food didn't hold up. I might go back for the location itself, but have lower food expectations.
We have been wanting to try the Brae Lock for awhile, it always has such a cozy atmosphere and because it’s the Christmas season we thought it was the perfect place to have some drinks and a light early dinner. While we enjoyed the atmosphere (so very cozy on a cold winter evening), the food in the tavern was so disappointing my husband and son got the fish fry and it was very greasy tasting and the fish was not done enough. I had a shaved rib eye with caramelized onions and French fries and it had no seasoning and was very bland . Our waiter /bar tender was excellent and our drinks were delicious. We only wish we had a better experience with the food . We would love to try it again because we love the atmosphere but maybe for just drinks and appetizers…… ?
I live in Cazenovia, and moved from CA/TX and this has always been our go-to place for fine dining. We have dined here many times, almost every two months. I made reservations this past Friday specially for the table near/at the fireplace downstairs as requested. The woman i made the reservations with over the phone clearly stated that the table was available. When we came downstairs, the maitre'd stated that it had been reserved 3 weeks ago for a party of 6. I can deal with that, but how does that get missed or was it the fact that we were a smaller party? When seated, I had to ask for the specials list as it "had not been printed yet" nor even suggested. Shrimp and scallop dish was dry....perhaps from over-grilling. French onion soups were flavorless yet, my father’s prime rib was delicious. We actually left/finished at 5pm given the fact that we really didn't want to spend much more time or money. By the time we left, the 6 top table that was supposed to have been our reserved table remained unseated. I deeply disappointed in the Brae Loch Inn for this. The same dishes seem to change at times and not always for the better. I don’t mind spending money for a good dinner, but the service and quality of the food need to align and be consistent.
Holiday dining experience: Excellent service by our waiter! He did try. Very limited choices as a vegetarian/disappointing …. My guest’s food was served cold and she had the traditional turkey dinner … Who seemed to be the manager noticeably only stopped at tables with a male that was feasting …. Not the experience we expected at all …. Will give it a try, but never again on a holiday .
I felt like a second class citizen. Was told I could sit wherever there was a seat outside. When I did I got reprimanded by the waitress and the very same lady who said I could sit anywhere that where I was sitting was for reservations only. When they told me where I could sit not one single person who worked there asked me if I needed anything. However, they all bent over backwards for their chummy friends who were there. Not 1 time was I asked if I needed anything. Not going to be stopping here again. **Edited to respond to response.....I did order drinks from downstairs. Again, the point you missed was your workers, including yourself, did nothing to provide any type of service to myself but went out of their way to help your friends who were sitting around the firepit without issue. I'm sorry you misunderstood when I stated that your service was bad. I felt there were enough workers from what I saw outside but even if not a simple "Are you doing ok" would have sufficed. Maybe next time remember that.
We ate dinner there on a Sunday. The location was really nice. It went down hill from there. The inside of the restaurant really needs a facelift, paint and some new lighting. We were seated right away but we waited for 10 minutes before anyone came to the table. Then the gentleman who sat us gave us water and told us the waitress would be rightn over. At least another 10 minutes until our order was taken. The menu was fairly large but the sandwich i ordered was sold out. I ordered a hamburger and I asked for it well done - it came out burnt. All in all I would not recommend this place.
BEWARE!!! PLEASE read other NEGATIVE reviews , they speak the truth. I want to save you from what happened to us. This is a horrible establishment. The worst dining experience we have ever had. From the moment we walked in the door it was downward spiral. The host said our table had to be cleaned and asked us to wait in the very musty/ moldy downstairs area. Every time he came down he forgot who we were and asked if he could help us. After 20 minutes he forgot about us all together and I had to go ask again if the table was ready. We were seated at a table where the prior guests had left their takeout on the chairs. I guess that wasn’t a part of cleaning the table for the next guests. We sat down and were completely ignored by two wait staff. No hello, we’ll be right with you, nothing. Finally after about 10-15 minutes one of them came over to tell us they weren’t our server but, “ here’s some water”. We waited another 10 minutes and our server came over. No sorry for the wait, nothing. We ordered appetizers and entrees . There were 4 tables dinning. It wasn’t busy. Again we wait. Nothing….. staff walked back and forth and ignored us. After another 1/2 hour we were forced to get up and refill our own water AFTER SITTING THERE FOR AN HOUR AND A HALF WE STILL DIDN'T HAVE ANY FOOD. I finally got the servers attention and complained. The server returned with our entire order… appetizers, and entrees together and said with a laugh, “The kitchen decided to put it out all together”. I said that’s not ok. This has been horrible and we don’t want all our food together. I asked if there was a manager on site. The server left and we watched her talk with an older woman with spiky hair for several minutes while our food sat on a tray. The older woman started walking towards us but instead of coming to our table she picked up the tray and walked away. Not a word was spoken. We sat there for another 5 minutes and we were so angry at the disrespectful and atrocious behavior we got up and left. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME HERE! . It is NOT “fine dining” by any means. It is a joke to even suggest it. I have never, in all my life, had such a bad experience as I did here. They ruined our evening and we were forced to find take out pizza in the area. And absolute DUMP!!
This is fine dining? Maybe if you're a dog that likes cold food served to you that you had to wait forever for. Appetizers served cold. French onion soup was piss warm at best. Then I had to use a tea spoon rather than a soup spoon used in ACTUAL fine dining restaurants. Bar service can't get drinks out in a timely manner let alone even know what they're sending to the table. I'd love to know who's getting paid to say this is a top restaurant in this town. But hey, at least the server had a friendly attitude.
I had longed to be at the Brae Loch Inn for over forty years! I finally got there earlier this week. I had done studies nearby in 1982 to 84. The Brae Loch was a gem of a place in those days. Cazenovia was much smaller in those days. The Brae Loch is a shadow of its former self. There are still signs of its former grandeur. The restaurant has delicious homemade bread. The staff continue to be excellent. The service by all was excellent. The outdoor music was delightful! The location is amazing! My review is directed to the owners of The Brae Loch Inn. The inn needs a complete makeover. The entire inn needs a deep cleaning at a very minimum. Underneath our bed was absolutely filthy. The Oriental rug was threadbare. The ceiling was peeling. It looks like it started to peel several years ago. The breakfast was sad. I will not be returning. I was so sad and disappointed. I don't understand where the original pride of ownership has gone. I trusted the excellent reviews but I found them to be completely unreliable. There are many excellent inns throughout the USA, but sadly this is no longer one of them. I hope the owners will choose to restore its grandeur and former commitment to excellence.
The room had a noticeable scent to it. It wasn’t so unpleasant that we had to leave, but it was present. There was a lot of dust behind the beds and the tv. The beds were decent and there wasn’t any sign of bedbugs or other pests. When we went down to eat at the restaurant we were sat without menus and the waitress came over to us after waiting for about 10 minutes. She didn’t come back over after giving us menus for another 15 minutes at least. The food was tasty. While waiting for our dessert and our bill the man who sat us tried to kick us out for another reservation and told us to go over to the lounge if we wanted to stay. After we informed him we had ordered dessert he got short with us, and just said “oh, okay. Nevermind” and briskly walked off. If you don’t mind rude service, being ignored, and being rushed through your meals the food was decent. Edited to add photos of the dust
Overcooked wife's filet to far past well done. Underseasoned lamb pops that were basically steamed. Stroganoff that was mostly heavy cream and ridiculously underseasoned. Roughly a 1 to 5 ratio of mushrooms to actual beef in the stroganoff. Did I mention multiple pieces of plastic in the potatoes? The server tried to justify the plastic wrap pieces in the food as well. Didn't bother asking for anything to be removed from the receipt, as I'm never coming back (I shouldn't have to have asked for that after the plastic in the food). Thanks for the lovely birthday dinner!
Customers beware! The hotel has a ridiculous 10 day cancellation policy with no flexibility. Find a different hotel, one that understands that plans can change and that a 10 day cancellation policy is absurd. Other hotels in the area in the area allow for a more reasonable 48 hour cancellation policy.
We’ve eaten at The Brae Loch many times and usually never have anything bad to say. But the last time was a bit of a shame. The atmosphere downstairs is cozy but dated, dark, and congested. My steak “pie” claimed to have a crust but was, instead, served with an odd puff pastry that was difficult to eat with the rest of the dish. (I gave up and noticed others who ordered the same meal also left their “crust” untouched). Our smoked salmon appetizer was served after sitting somewhere for a long time (chewy baguette, rubbery salmon!). Worst of all, my husband’s steak was completely rare. I called to speak to someone but never received a call back. Perhaps it’s better to try again in the summer or on a specific night of the week, or not around the holidays.
Just had dinner here with some friends and it was very poor. At the start, we waited about 10 minutes before anyone brought us water and asked if we wanted drinks. I almost went to the front to ask if they had forgotten us. Our server took our drink orders and brought them and took our meal order. The women both ordered French onion soup and it was so salty neither could eat it. We waited and waited for our server to return, and when I finally saw her walk by the table I asked her if she could stop by. She took the soup away and said they were having trouble with the soups tonight. We again waited for our dinners and they were not very good. I had the Guinness steak pie. While the flavor was good, the meat was dry and there was very little gravy. My wife had the stroganoff and she did not tell me until we had left that it was bad. There was very little beef and it was just like mac and cheese. She knew I would have refused to pay for it. My buddy had the open faced strip steak and he said he has had better lunch meat. At least he said the fries were good. His wife had the lobster mac and cheese and wondered where the lobster was. All this time we never saw our server. When she did appear, I asked for some more water, which she did provide but left the other glasses on the table empty. We had to ask again when she brought the check. At that point I realized we never received the haggis we ordered but it was too late for that. If our server had been more attentive we would have had additional drinks and possibly dessert but we had had enough. The four of us travel all over central New York trying restaurants and this was our worst experience in quite some time. I would have brought it to the owners attention but my companions don't like to make a scene. Very disappointed here.
I’m actually very disappointed in my stay I spent 30 minutes trying to figure out the TV to call and find out that the TVs aren’t working and all they did was refund us 20% which is ridiculous when their rooms are over $200 a night and I know they’re trying to keep the look of it being an old building but the spiderwebs and cobwebs in the dust was Crazy. This place is so not cleanly. I paid $100 for dinner and it was disgusting. Our appetizer was fries. They were absolutely not fresh whatsoever and then I ordered the beef pot pie and I couldn’t even eat it. It wasn’t warm and all of the beef in it was fatty! The drinks were 14$ and awful 😞 When you first walk in the place, nobody greets u to you don’t even know where to go or what to do. We asked a man who I think was a server and he said I have no idea. I just walked in the door. I’m Like ok 😂 rude! It was a girls trip for my mom and my daughter not to have a TV when there’s nothing to do after 8 o’clock when you just wanna relax was a bit annoying .
