HMD Bar and Grill

We chose this restaurant for dinner along with its outdoor seating since the weather was beautiful. We were directed to the rooftop and it was lovely, but there was no seating available except at a small bar area. The waitress, who also attended bar, was more than extremely busy. She apologized for the wait for our drinks, and then subsequent food order. As luck would have it, a table opened and we were able to sit there. The food was well-presented and delicious. The pricing was good. Our waitress remained in very good spirits despite her incredible workload. We will return.

We had our wedding reception here over the weekend and we couldn’t have asked for a better experience!! The space is beautiful, the food was delicious, and the service was top notch! I can’t recommend them enough for private events!

Visiting from Virginia and was looking for that Chicago cuisine everyone raves about. Well this place exceeds expectations. The curb appeal is gorgeous. The staff are amazing. Pete makes an amazing blue cheese dirty martini. I’m very particular about my martinis and he overdelivered. So the food. They have created an environment where bar meets fine dining. The presentation, the taste…impeccable. We had the hummus and garlic parm wings…they did not disappoint. Then the presentation for the burger with their logo stamped in the bun was the finishing touch. Definitely in our top ten across the country.

I rented HMD’s private room for a 55-person 50th birthday party, and it was amazing. From the service, to the space, to the staff, to the food…all of it was stellar. Their offerings are generous and everyone at our party complimented the chef’s cooking, delicious! I recommend the filet mignon, fried chicken and penne pasta. The bar staff was super friendly and made us all feel like family. The owner and his mother were attentive and accommodating. The space is absolutely beautiful and with the opportunity to decorate and arrange tables however you like, we had the chance to make it our own for the night. 5 stars, 2 thumbs up, and 100s of kudos! Thank Nerius and HMD for making our event unforgettable.

Great food. Huge burgers. Fair pricing. I love this place but the parking is horrible. Worth the trouble once you get parked!

We had the small filet with pistachio cream sauce over it... Ohh my goodness it was wonderful!

We dined Sunday as a girls brunch. We ordered drinks and a lot of appetizers! The service was excellent!

I will definitely be using this establishment again! The staff was fantastic from the booking process to the service at the party. I never had to ask twice if we needed something, there were no attitudes and lots of smiles (As the host I was able to actually totally enjoy the party stress free! It was nice!). Everyone was very pleased with the food (the beef was amazing) and for me it was a huge plus because I have a wheat allergy so I have to eat gluten free if I want to breathe! When booking it was discussed they adjusted a few things and I was able to eat 90% of what was served.

The bartenders and servers make HMD worth coming to. I'm there on Monday and Thursday evenings, and the people working on those nights are truly fantastic. A good pub experience, in my view, is about atmosphere, attitude, and community. The people at HMD are wonderful and give an outstanding experience of all three of those important things. The food is excellent, of course.

Probably my new favorite little bar spot in the neighborhood! I had the wings, the hmd burger and hand cut fries. Everything was great! and to know they cook Everything in beef tallow, well.. that was the icing on the cake for me! I'll be going here a lot in the future, future as in as next week! Lol

1st time going for dinner last night. Pleasant experience, nice staff, good food. We had the calamari appetizer, Ribeye & Filet w/Mushroom Risotto and Broccoli. Mojito and a beer. A bit pricey for the portions of food and disappointed with the thickness of the Filet (less than an inch thick) but steaks were tender! Will definitely be back. Thank you!

HMD restaurant is a amazing restaurant with delicious food and outstanding tomato bisque soup. Kudos to the staff who are all friendly and positive, and a big shout out to Maricel, the chef, for the amazing food choices. Thank you also to Cassie who went above and beyond to make sure I got my soup and absolutely made my day. I will be a customer there a lot more. Close to home, comfort food, excellent atmosphere, and decent prices. Can't wait to taste breakfast! Back again tonight and one again not disappointed. We had our work Christmas Party here, last year. Everything was perfect! The Christmas decorations were beautiful and the food was delicious. We had such a great time that we are doing it again this year! We can’t wait!!!!

I had the chicken and rice and it was amazing. They have a sweet red sauce that doesn’t interrupt the flavoring of the chicken but instead pairs well with the entire dish. The broccoli was steamed to perfection. I couldn’t recommend this establishment more

The food was delicious, fresh and the drinks were so good. The wings was delicious, the stake sandwich was divine. I had never had a shrimp sandwich and the grilled shrimp sandwich was so yummy. Melissa was very nice and we loved how attentive she was. We will definitely be back.

One of the things that sets them apart is their No Seed Oil Certification, which is a huge plus for anyone mindful about ingredients and clean eating. The service is consistently excellent—friendly, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. And the atmosphere? Just right. It's a great place to relax, enjoy a drink, and dig into a delicious meal. Went to the 2nd floor and love the open air, server was hilarious 😂 joking with our group, and the burgers were out if this world, the drinks especially the seasonal were delicious, overall a little pricey but definitely worth the whole experience!!

Great place to hang out and enjoy some great food. Place has multiple areas to enjoy. A cozy rooftop an outdoor seating area an indoor eating area and more. The servers and service was phenomenal. They were on point and extremely nice. Thank you for a great time.

What an amazing place and experience! Highly recommend to anyone in the area. Ordered the wings and the overload egg rolls to start, both were amazing. Also had the cajun shrimp sandwich and the burger. Again, both were great! Service was very courteous and nice. The inside was nice and clean and you could tell they had just put a ton of work into everything!

Very nice place to relax and chill and enjoy good food. The ambiance was nice. Not too loud and not too quiet. The food was very good and flavorful. The rooftop was beautiful and the best part along with the lavender lemon drops!

Lunch was good. Sat on rooftop which was nice but windy & very noisy with traffic below. Service was excellent. Food was good but chicken sandwich was dry, would have been better with the Chipotle sauce that was served with cheese curds which was excellent. Steak sandwich was tough. Next time will try the burger. Drinks were outstanding. Blue cheese dirty martini & old fashion were both worth the trip. Will go back but maybe try patio or dining room. Nice to have options. For such a nice place, parking was minimal.

Love the decor!!!!!! The food portions were plentiful and the drinks were good. This bar and grill has set the bar high for bars and grills. It was raining the day we went, and I can't wait to return to enjoy the outside patio. We had a party of 5 and the tab was very reasonable. Go, enjoy the atmosphere, the delicious food and the decor (even in the restrooms)..lol

Very nice place for drinks with friends the outside seating is really cool. We've also sat inside it's nice very clean, can be a little loud inside but the food's pretty good we've had pretty much everything on the menu and I haven't really disliked anything. I wouldn't give it five star rating for the food. It's a good four stars though.

Our food was great. Would definitely come back. Bartender could use some training. Ex. Shaking the cocktail to watered and no strainer. Never flip the shaker top and use the bottom as a strainer. The ladies need the right tools. No drink tasted the same and we had two each amongst the three of us. Parking could be an issue. Steak was cooked a perfect medium rare. Mom liked her burger. Tasted like a freshly ground patty. Onion soup, hummus platter were awesome too. Our server was mostly great but she kept skipping the other person...maybe distracted. It's great there's a patio and rooftop option in the burbs.

It's a fun bar! The day I went was during a Halloween party of sorts and the music was really good. Same for the drinks I got some Halloween ones they had and they were also good

The happy hour is weekdays from 3-6 pm. Wings, prime rib sliders, cheeseburgers , garlic bread and a couple other items. A few wines, a couple drafts, and the cocktail list is a percentage off. Not all cocktails but those on the list. If you are approaching the 6:00 hour do not expect your server to come back to put in any other orders. I imagine that's around a shift change and maybe side work came into play, it's hard to feel that it doesn't have part to do with the discount that ends at 6, but by then we were drinking cocktails off list anyway . But the being held hostage at your table waiting for the check or waiting to tell them you even want the check is one of my least favorite parts of dining out. It can 100% break the experience . Needless to say we spent an extra 20 minutes after finishing all beverages and food. Waiting to get anyone's attention. At first we were gonna have another round happy hour or not but then after some time decided we have drinks at home. Tldr: food decent. Drinks decent . Service decent. Anyone of these 3 could have been a modicum better and I would be a regular .

The food was excellent, but the service was extraordinary. The only significant change I recommend is that the entrees should be paired with sides; they are a bit expensive for not having sides.

2 bartenders there that are absolutely awesome.. Prices are a little bit hot.. I' like a bartender that knows what they're doing... Hopefully the owner appreciates them, andrea is quick and and efficient.. The other dude is got a strange haircut.I don't know his name but he really knows his stuff.. the only bad thing I have to say is that I went there.One time and their fryer was down... the chicken wings really sucked that day... paid the same amount of money😉 if you can't do it right don't do it at all

We’re going to place an order from that bar & grill but the menu popped in the middle advertising a ribeye steak for $52 a La Carte with the tax $60. Thanks but no thanks. Long story short they got prices from south loop but the location far away from the city vibe or surroundings.

Tried this place for the first time this past Friday, since I'm new to the area and have been looking for places to eat and have a drink locally. I work in the industry so I like to try new places. I was excited for the prime rib sliders, but when they came out I was unimpressed. The description says it had a whiskey caramel sauce and arugula. There was little to no sauce on them, they layed them on arugula(no arugula in the slider) and they looked like they had been smashed down a bit too much. The cheeseburger was very tasty. I like mine medium and it was cooked just right. Definitely recommend the burger. Service, we'll that was not great. When we arrived the server greeted us and handed our menus. No water was brought to the table, no napkins, cutlery or plates were brought with our appetizers until I asked for them. There was no interaction unless we called her over to bring more drinks or request our check. Service Definitely needs some improvement.

Got seated in the patio area. After waiting 20 minutes no one came to take me and my date order. After asking will anyone take our order a waitress came and gave us menus but never returned we ended up leaving!

After seeing the menu online decided to stop in & get burgers to go. Ordered two hdm 8oz burgers. Burger was awesome & perfectly done however, they might use anchovies in the aioli that’s spread on the bun. I would definitely next time order w/out. Anyways, ordered a coors light, glass of ice & tomato juice on the side. Bartender was friendly said he was very busy & it would be a moment, no worries, been a bartender, I understand. They did however, give me the beer & told me they didn’t have tomato juice only Bloody Mary mix. I said I’ll try it! After a little while I asked someone else who came behind the bar for the rest of my drink order. After tasting the beer w/the mix it wasn’t a flavor I could drink & ordered the espresso martini from the original bartender. I must say was one of the best I’ve had! Received my to go order, paid the bill however, after tipping & signing I realized I was charged for the beer. Now, another employee was behind the bar, I spoke to them about the charge & my inability to drink it cause of the Bloody Mary mix. They said that’s what I ordered & & there wasn’t anything they could do. They said they would talk w/the bartender. After I waited a bit the original bartender came out. I explained what I shared w/the other employee & they said that since I poured the beer & mix together the beer charge couldn’t be removed, hmmmm, even a dive bar wouldn’t have charged for the beer. The employee became angry w/me & very unpleasant, I had not raised my voice or become disrespectful. I was taken aback by their behavior. I angrily took my bill back & scratched out the tip. Working in service this is something I’ve Never done! As they walked I away I asked again why they became so very angry & rude. They said, I was! After doing a little tit for tat, as their walking away they tell me the other bartender told them i was disappointed w/the espresso martini??? In my conversations w/both employees no mention of the martini came up, only the beer! Bottom line, beautifully decorated, good food & pleasant atmosphere. Hoping they had a bad day or a breakdown in communication occurred!
