I went on a Thursday afternoon for lunch and was surprised how busy the place was. I had the teriyaki bento box, hamachi nigiri and monkey balls. The box was excellent, hamachi was good, the balls weren't my thing, but they were flavorfully and hot....I'm sure they're great for someone else. Def going back!
This review is WAY WAY OVERDUE!!!!!! I’m talking about 5 years overdue!!! This is my go to sushi spot! The food is always fresh! The customer service is always top notch!!! 20 stars!
Amazing service and delicious food as always! Sushi's 11/10 as usual! Would definitely come back again! (The name of two of the sushi dishes made me laugh, you gotta see the names yourself XD)
The food was so good and the price was not bad. We got a bunch of rolls to try: Dragon - good Alaska - good Spicy tuna - fine Spider - don’t like the texture of the soft shell crab, but that’s a personal preference Snow crab - yes! Lemon roll - meh Rainbow - good California - fine Caterpillar - good
We were looking for a sushi place, and we stumbled into this place. All we had was sushi. I'm just recommending what I tried. The sushi was beyond my expectations. It's a little pricey, but when it's this good, it is well worth it. The service was amazing. Kudos to Kathy, that girl deserves a raise. That girl was on top of her game. I asked her for a couple of recommendations, and she just nailed it.
I literally cannot imagine why anyone would rate this place poorly. We stumbled upon it today after shopping at Costco and decided to try it out. The food was spectacular. The service was even better. The best part? It’s the most affordable sushi place that I’ve visited within the past 2 years. Will definitely be back. Thanks, gentlemen.
Later dinner. We had the mixed tempura platter, salmon lemon roll entre, crunchy rolls, edamame, miso soup. Service was prompt and friendly, food delicious. Parking was great at that time (weekday after 7 p.m.) Nice atmosphere. We were able to converse.
There was a bit of a wait but it was worth it! Sushi was fresh and on point, our service was awesome! We have two toddlers that needed something to keep busy. They brought over a color page and crayons. Our server was very nice and although busy we didn't feel neglected at all. We will be back!
my favorite place in San Diego to eat sushi. The food quality is great as are the prices. One of my go to for date night. I typically sit at the bar with my partner so service is usually fast for me but if you're in a larger group prepare to wait a a bit. Staff is nice abut not very good at seating people, they get a bit confused and over whelmed but the good taste and quality make sup for that.
Bang for your buck. Sushi was excellent, even comparing it to living in Japan for 2 and a half yrs - pretty good stuff. Price is very reasonable. Only thing i would say - think the # of customers/amount of business they receive can justify moving to a lil bigger location in the next year or so. I think that would be cool to see, more space!
I really loved the food here and so did everyone in our group. All of the plates were clean which was surprising. The service was great and the folks working there were personable. I would definitely recommend this place highly recommend the chicken teriyaki plate.
Great food, nice ambiance, decent service, conveniently located. Expect a small wait for a table at dinner time, but not a deal breaker for me. Prices are reasonable. A very diverse sushi menu gives you plenty to choose from, including lots of soups which I enjoy. Overall a great local Sushi restaurant that stays true to their roots that delivers in taste, value and choices. Bravo.
My Granddaughter Loves Sushi! I told her the next time I was in San Diego I would take her. The service was beautiful! The CA Rolls which is what I love was delicious, along with the Chicken Teriyaki. I can’t remember the name of the roll my Granddaughter got. But considering the fact she ate it all says a lot. Given the opportunity I would go back.
Scrumptious sushi at Sushiya! The rolls were all great, we ordered the baked salmon, baked scallop dynamite, spicy albacore, dragon, and Del Mar rolls. We sat on the dog friendly patio. The service is friendly and quick. Recommend!
Casual Japanese place where all the staff are non-Japanese. The lunch menu was a good deal where you get either soup or salad, a big plate of different dishes like tempura and karaage. The sushi rolls were not bad either! Sashimi was good quality for the price we paid
This is one of our favorite sushi restaurants in San Diego. It’s close to our house and has some of the best service and food in town. We have been here many times and we have always been excited about all the great full sushi rolls and ice cold beers. We have been excited about Sushiya For years and would like more people to enjoy this place.
I love going to lunch here. The lunch specials is affordable and delicious. Service is friendly and quick. Food is consistent and always hits the spot.
I'm going to be upfront. I don't like sushi. My family does and they tell me they had a great time here. My family had sushi and even some sashimi. Me I had some short ribs that where really good, except the sauce was to spicy for me. I'm not into spicy. So they where nice enough to change it to a teriyaki Sauce for me. My Little girl had Salmon with rice. In Short this was a Good experience. The ambiance was good, the staff was friendly, our waiter was not as attentive as I wanted, but I'm not going to dock this review over one person. I'ts not the cheapest place to eat. But it was nice and worth it.
Katsu was very good and big portion too. Same with kalbi. The sushi rolls were decent. Overall very good value.
The food was great and the waiter was absolutely polite and wonderful(writing this review as soon as I left the store.)having japanese food in Japan before this was an absolute masterpiece real effort put into the food.
Pretty decent meals and they have these great deals when dining in and to-go as well. Select rolls at 50% off when dining in and 40% when you take out. #LetsGuide #SanDiegoGuide #SanDiegoEats #Sushiya #Sushi #Rolls
The lunch special offered daily from 12am - 4pm is a great deal! Several options to choose from. I ordered the teriyaki chicken served w miso soup, rice, salad, tempura shrimp and vegetables and a small CA roll. Great service and a delicious lunch and generous portion is a definite yes on a Sunday afternoon .
Sat at the Sushi bar. I got the eel roll, he got the sashimi platter which comes with salad and rice. Everything FRESH and on-point! Great prompt service. We came here while our optometry appointment approached. We were in and out, just as planned. My fave sushi in Otay Ranch

My boyfriend and I had lunch here and it was great! But what was even better was the service from our waiter Randall. He was excellent! He was extremely attentive not just to us but all of his tables. His attitude was great and he did not miss anything. I highly recommend asking for him as a server if you go. We will be back!

Although our edamame didn't arrive at the table, it was taken off the receipt. Food was very good. We will definitely go back. Price was good as many items were on sale. Server checked back often and we're good with drinks and items when asked
The food was absolutely fantastic. I ordered several items of sushi and from the hot menu. The only thing that was a little disappointing was the temperature shrimp. I thought the portion was very small for the money. Everything else was wonderful. The service was great and it has kind of a homie family type atmosphere. Very comfortable. I also tried the temperature green tea ice cream. I've had deep fried ice cream before but never japanese-style. It was a different flavor but I thought it was very good.
This is a great spot for sushi when you don’t want to make a long drive. We live close by and it’s easy to make this place work. Good amount of rolls and options. Appetizers are good too. Like any other place that is pretty good, there can be a good wait time to get a table on busy nights. Overall good spot.
The service here was fantastic! Although there was a bit of a wait for dinner, the ladies at the front were very nice. I had the caterpillar roll, which was delicious, and the bulgogi fries, which were just okay. The beer and sake were as expected, very good! I also enjoyed catching the Padres game on their TVs.
Great sushi and korean short ribs. Went for a family friday night dinner. The prices are moderate and the food is fresh.
Although the restaurant wasn't too busy there was a wait. A notice on the outside said there was only one server. I had the Hawaiian and Caterpillar roll as well as a tamago sashimi. Decent price for the amount of food with the roll specials.
A jalapeño bomb is very special and a spicy seafood noodle is so goooood.

I just wanted to say I’m very disappointed with this location. It has been a while since I’ve been to Sushiya. Used to go at the Point Loma location. I ordered take out. Lady said 10-15 minutes so I went outside. Came back in she said”it’s been ready for you” ok I let that slide coz I’m hungry. Opened the container after I sat down. No dressing for the salad. No soy sauce for the sushi. And most of all no tissue! I mean come on. It is take out people eat outside with no amenities so what just wipe my mouth with my shirt. Which I had to do for sure. Not sure I’ll be going back to this restaurant 😢
I don’t understand why this place has so much people all the time, the few times I’ve been here it takes a long time to get your food. The fountain sodas are bad, I recommend having water or a beer instead. And the sushi is ok, not that great, the last time I was there it was falling apart, very hard to eat it.
First of all there's no way you can call what you're serving yakitori. If you told me that it was microwaved chicken on a stick covered in sauce I would believe you. There was zero charring on the chicken itself and literally the only thing you could taste was the sauce which was drenched on the dry skewers. There was only three and we didn't even finish them. Both sushi rolls that we ordered were poorly rolled and not that remarkable. The gyoza were okay. The service was pretty rough. My wife and I waited 45 minutes to get seated at around 6:00 p.m. on a Saturday. Although the server was able to take our order in a timely fashion we never saw him again. We sat at our table for a good 10 to 15 minutes after having it cleared off waiting for our server to even acknowledge us. Not once were we ever checked on after our initial order was taken. We eventually got up and got the bill from the hostess because they were busy and we knew they needed the table. But for real just take that yakitori of the menu. It's a disgrace.
I had Salmon Teriyaki... The fillets where much thinner than usual. Flavor was OK but nothing special. Service was slow (place was packed) and a bit expensive for what I was expecting. There are much better Japanese restaurants in CV.
The food was great, but the service was horrible. I asked several times for a replacement bottle of soy sauce that took over 20 minutes to get, even though the waiter walked by and looked directly at me several times. I needed a copy of my receipt as I was on a business trip. My associate received his in short order, and mine was "forgotten." It wasn't until we were walking out of the door that my associate decided to ask again for my receipt that I got it. I will personally never eat here again. I don't enjoy paying to be ignored.
My first experience with Sushiya started out nice. It was a weekday, the restaurant was crowded but not packed. We got a table within 3 minutes. Shortly after being seated a server took our order for drinks and promptly left. At this restaurant you browse though a list of sushi and other assorted items and mark off how many you like on a sheet of paper. I found this a bit cheap, as the prices here not inexpensive. Our order took about 15 minutes to arrive. I was busy on my phone, when one of the people in our party remarked that the sushi seemed a bit off. I looked at what they were talking about and sure enough several of the rolls we're not cut properly. They were uneven and some were not cut all the way through. Other roles were stuck, pressed hard down on the plate. So much that when you picked it up or tried to pick it up, it fell apart. Not what I expected from $15 and $18 rolls. Finally we never did see our server, only when she brought us our check. We never got drink refills; I had to ask a busboy for napkins. Not quite sure where the breakdown was with here. Perhaps I am expecting too much from a place where the average sushi roll is $12. I will wait a couple months and try it again. Post an update later.

Got three sushi rolls for $40+. They were poorly assembled and each would fall apart upon picking a piece up. The rice was hard and didn't encapsulate the roll. Flavor depended on a dip or sauce. Didn't get sick though, still wouldn't return.
Manager “Kelly” was very rude and hung up on me. When asked some of the menu was not on the DoorDash menu. “She said it’s all the way on the bottom” And I looked all the way on the bottom it was not there so I asked her to look on Doordash app in her phone and she said “we are busy” and kept saying “We are busy” so I asked to talk to the owner And she hung up on me. And I was mad and I called back multiple times and they never picked up my calls again. I feel like at least she should’ve asked me for my phone number and check the Door Dash Menu later and call me back. We have been buying about 15 lunches from here lately once or twice a week but I will no longer will be going there or buying from there EVER again. I think the ownership changed and in my opinion service got worse.
We drove 30 minutes to pick up food they closed at 9 pm and they wouldn't take our order. We asked them to please make an exception as we aid a toll to arrive and drove 25 minutes... there was 30 minutes left to 9pm... but no it's very sad last time I spend my money there. I asked for a manager there was none... Kelly turned us away.
Ordered baked salmon roll and it took longer than 25 min. If you're going to order it, tell them to bring your entire order out at the same time so that the person(s) who orders the baked salmon roll isn't just watching everyone eat. It's only when we reminded the restaurant did it finally arrive. Had to ask the receptionist for most things (receptionist was helpful) because our server never returned afterwards.
Unfortunately, my experience here was disappointing. The sushi tasted off, like it had been sitting in the fridge for too long, and the flavors weren’t fresh at all. The ponzu sauce was watered down, and the “spicy” mayo was basically just plain mayo with a bit of color and no kick or flavor. Even the ramen lacked seasoning and felt bland. The one positive was the good service. The staff were polite and attentive. However, the restaurant’s interior didn’t help matters. Everything looked old and poorly maintained with dirty spots and peeling floors that didn’t create a pleasant dining atmosphere. Wouldn’t recommend coming back.
Ordered a pick up order from them last night not only were the servings really small me and my girl got food poisoning from them. I do not recommend going here.
The food wasn’t too bad, and I can’t really complain about the atmosphere—it was nothing special, but quiet. However, the service from the young waitress, a Filipina, was terrible. The entire time we were at the table, she never came by to check if we needed anything. When it was time to pay, she just placed the card machine right in front of my face without saying a word. Very poor service on her part. Most of the time, she was in the kitchen area, on her phone.
Used to be so much better. The menu is smaller. The choices are limited. The quality went way worst. You order fries and it looks like half is missing because the plate is empty. You have to ask for dipping sauce. The sushi isn't cut thick anymore. The staff are not around. Wonder if other locations are the same. Not going to try.
