Went to Original Joe's of Westlake for my birthday lunch with mom and brother and it was a great choice. It is a classic, higher-end diner with an old-school feel that is comfortable and polished, and it works really well for a relaxed sit-down meal. I ordered the steak and it was excellent. It was cooked well, flavorful, and exactly what I was hoping for. I finished with the cheesecake for dessert, which was also great and a perfect way to end the meal. Everything felt consistent and well executed. If I'm not mistaken, they've taken their cheesecake recipe from Zanze's and this is the only place you can get it - Classic SF cake! The service was friendly and attentive without being overbearing, and they handled a birthday lunch smoothly. Overall, it is a dependable spot for family gatherings or celebrations when you want good food, solid service, and a classic atmosphere. I would definitely come back.
Had the Filet Mignon (cooked medium). The taste was good, but was a little tough…something filet mignon should NEVER be. Tip: The BEST and tastiest one I ever had was at “Fog Harbor” on Pier 39, Fishermen’s Wharf, SF. You could cut it with a fork!!! Our server was excellent. Full disclosure…. we,ve never had a bad server here! The Joe’s Sundae was outstanding!!💖 We went at 3:15 on a Monday, so no waiting. Enjoy!
I have been wanting to go here for a while, especially because I’m not out in Daly City that often. I knew this place was busy and always packed, so often times, I’ve strayed away from coming here, but my friend from the East Coast really wanted to try Original Joe’s so we had no choice but to actually step foot and give it a try. I was surprised when they seated us rather quickly — originally they said it was a 45 minute to an hour wait, but they seated me and my friend within 10 MINUTES. Call that actually surprising. We honestly got QUITE a bit of food right on the spot — mocktails, mashed potatoes, pasta, and a squid steak for myself, and a lasagna for my friend. The flavoring of everything was just DELICIOUS, and the portions were honestly just right. The hospitality and the vibe of this restaurant was just overall really good — I literally have no complaints for it.
I been coming here for many years, and it's a delightful place to spend a lovely evening. You can come with family or friends and always know you will have such a great experience. Very classy and satisfactory. 🥂
Had the prime rib dinner. The meat was fairly tough (to the point the steak knife struggled to cut parts of it) but had decent flavor. The mashed potato and spinach sides were both excellent. Warm berry crumble was nice and sweet. Service was spectacular and the restaurant is beautiful. Looking forward to trying their eggplant parmigiana.
First time at this location and we loved the vibe. It is warm, full of delicious aroma and the mid century mod decor and fireplace is is so inviting! The staff was attentive and friendly and we haven't enjoyed an experience like this in a long time! We went for brunch and although it was crowded, we were able to get booth after a 30 minute wait. We had avocado and smoked salmon toast, wonderful waffles, eggs, a breakfast burrito that was amazing (sausage and gravy, maybe? Very savory). The best thing was the Italian jelly donuts. Perfectly cooked and warm but no hint that it was fried. We will definitely be back the next time we are at Thornton State Beach. Thank you for making our trip wonderful!

Outside, the landscaped grounds and greenery are genuinely impressive and add to the overall experience, especially if you’re arriving early or staying a bit after your meal. This was a super cute and warm + inviting Italian restaurant, with a cozy fireplace in one of their bar sections and a lot of other dining areas for accommodating all group sizes. Yummy food options too! We got the salmon, mashed potatoes, and broccoli.
This original Joe’s location has a very spacious restaurant with separate bar area for catching a game. Holiday decor and cheerful music filled the dining area🎄🎷 it was packed on a Thursday eve. Ordered the prime rib dip comes with fries on the side. Soft buttery bread and tender prime rib didn’t disappoint 😋 Also tried the fillet of sole with side of house made ravioli. Ordered a festive drink Noel’s Nog. Had an enjoyable meal. Service is top notch👍 I say check it out.

We came to Original Joe’s for a birthday celebration, and they set the tone right away by seating us a little earlier than our reservation—such a thoughtful touch since we arrived ahead of schedule. The food was spot-on. My steak was cooked perfectly medium (a rare win these days), seasoned so well I didn’t even think about adding sauce. Everyone at the table loved their dishes.. both of our Steak Ala Bruno (one cooked medium & one cooked medium rare )and the Chicken Piccata were outstanding. Even the sides were flawless. The mashed potatoes were creamy, and the broccolini had that perfect tender-crisp bite. They nail it every single time. Parking was easy, service was smooth, and we genuinely had such a lovely evening. Original Joe’s continues to be one of our tried-and-true favorites. Highly recommend.
I’m convinced this is the perfect restaurant. The service is impeccable, every dish is fantastic and the decor can transport you to mid-century in the best way. My favorite is the filet of sole piccata but the steaks are fantastic as well, to say nothing of the pasta dishes which are also second to none. The bloody Joe goes with anything. The butter cake desert is otherworldly. It simply doesn’t get better.
This is such a great restaurant, atmosphere, and according experience. It's hard to describe but the place is packed but in a good way. It reminds me of a 70's diner that has a 21st century mindset. The portions are big, they cocktails are great and Cory our server was the utmost professional and was always checking in with us. There is a reason why the place is so popular.
I can't believe I haven't written a review for Original Joe's Westlake yet. We've celebrated some of the most special occasions here - from my rehearsal dinner to friends' birthdays to just grabbing drinks with the girls. Whether brunch or dinner, you will always find something worthwhile to Original Joe's Westlake. I love the old-timey vibes - like you're stepping into the 1950s. The renovations made it look even more swanky and old-timey. It's usually crowded so make sure to get reservations. The service is experienced, and they will get you in and out like professionals.
We were lucky to sneak in before the Friday dinner rush hit! We started with the calamari which was breaded just enough, nice and crispy and the tarter and cocktail sauce were definitely in house creations! The cocktail sauce was a tad spicy with a strong horseradish kick! The linguini pesto was light and creamy and very tasty The beef ravioli was also very delicious but by the time I was ready for it my tummy was full! We were also lucky enough to get some butter cake as well. We managed to eat half of it even being very full already! We will definitely be back!
Imagine revisiting a restaurant you haven't been to since 1977....and finding it is even better than you remembered. The service, food and experience is over the top wonderful. Thank you for making my birthday an amazing experience.
The overall experience dining here was great. Our server was pretty attentive and was really friendly. We got the prime rim, chicken alfredo, and joe’s meatballs and everything was flavorful and tasty. Definitely a staple in Daly city.

While staying with friends in the S.F. Bay area, they made reservations at the Original Joe's Westlake. We had an 8:15pm. reservation. We met two friends from Pleasanton in the bar for drinks before dinner. The staff were able to accommodate adding two people to our group. The bar is dark wood with several tv's showing ballgames. It was crowded, but we found a long padded bench seat facing the bar that fit all 6 of us. Three martinis (1 clean, 2 dirty), a glass of Merlot, a coke, and a water, we all had what we wanted. After we got our drinks, we were led to a large booth. The kitchen is open, and you can see meals being prepared. The menus were pretty expansive. From Raviolis, seafood, chicken, lamb chops, and steaks. I opted for the Lamb Chops (4) with mint, and my side was the Raviolis with meat sauce. The lamb chops were so tender, and the mint made the meal even better. I ate all 4 chops and brought the Raviolis home with us.
A hub for families celebrating a myriad of events, Original Joe’s has been hosting classic dinners since 1956. My family first went by the recommendation of a friend who’s lived here all her life. This elevated Italian-American restaurant is bustling with conversations and laughter and requires a few weeks ahead for a dinner reservation, but lunch is almost always a guaranteed walk-in. Once you’re seated, you’ll get a warm basket of bread with a tall dish of butter. But I prefer to start the night with a platter of their golden fried prawns, a plate of crisp and juicy perfection you can dip in a light tartare or marinara sauce. As an avid shrimp lover, we’ve ordered shrimp cocktails from them before, but the fried prawns are far superior in crunch and flavor. Joe’s serves creamy pastas and tender steaks, but the best meat dish you can get is the lamb chops with mint chutney. Sure, the steaks might be good, but it’s better to get grilled beef somewhere else. Joe’s lamb chops are something you can’t sear at home: the meat is tender and fragrant, glazed with flavorful butter for an irresistible shine that coats the char marks of each cut. The mint chutney adds brightness and tang, as a twist of lemon does to fish. Meat entrees come with a side, and I choose their house ravioli to take home as the next day’s lunch. The best valued meat, however, is the Joe’s Famous Hamburger Sandwich: a thick sizzling steak sandwiched between crunchy sourdough with perfectly crisp french fries. It’s a decent deal for the $24, and comes with more meat than you can probably finish (perfect for tomorrow’s breakfast). Joe’s dessert is a decadent finale to the night. Sweet lovers must try the warm butter cake, a stack of warm, tender, crusty cake doused in chocolate sauce with a rapidly melting scoop of vanilla gelato. If you tell them it’s your birthday, you get a mini one for free, and the waiters rally around you to sing Happy Birthday before you make a wish on the candle planted in the ice cream. Carve your spoon down vertically so you get gelato and cake in the same bite, and enjoy the effect of mixing temperatures and textures. This cake is best when shared with many other people, just like everything else at Original Joe’s. * We also moved tables because of another large party and the staff was so polite and gave us free cake and ice cream!
I had a great experience at Original Joe’s Westlake. The chicken parm was excellent—crispy, flavorful, and satisfying. The tiramisu really stood out: it was extremely moist and had a rich, balanced flavor that made it the highlight of the meal. The shrimp scampi was decent, but nothing special compared to the other dishes. The service was great—friendly, attentive, and efficient. The classic atmosphere added to the overall experience. I’d definitely return, especially for the chicken parm and that incredible tiramisu.
This place is non stop busy, but in a good way. Reservations are recommended, they do take walk ins and they also have a first come first serve bar area. The food taste is always consistent (everything taste like its made with love) the servers are always friendly, its always a good time. Today split the fettuccine with chicken (they split into two bowls for us), Cesar salad, clam chowder, and for desert the butter cake. Everything was delicious!
