I reached out to The Kitchen for a very last-minute, same day request to see if they could accommodate a party of 20 people for dinner. We would have been happy with all separate tables if needed, but thanks especially to Sammy, Brittany, and all the staff and chef we ended up with full scale event dinner that seemed as if it had been planned for months, instead of pulled together in less than 3.5 hours. We had an extraordinary evening, and all who attended walked in and were immediately impressed with the setup and small details, including our corporate logo on the pre fixe menus for dinner and drinks. We were given a lovely private room, and everything was outstanding. The menu was perfect and the food was amazing - especially the crispy cauliflower and the cast iron chicken. I've never heard so many people talk about good cauliflower and chicken could be, but it was truly remarkable. The staff were all fantastic, and our compliments to the chef for the amazing food. I am still in awe about how well done this evening was pulled together, and it speaks volumes about their dedication and commitment to excellence. If our team is ever again in the Denver area we will definitely plan ahead to come back to the Kitchen.

Wow! Appetizer “carrots “ is amazng, with a spicy feta cream sauce.. The cod was delicious, with a Greek tsasiki sauce. All the staff have been working here a long time, from Chandler (head cook) to McKenna (greeter) to my very helpful server Julianna. Highly recommend!

Great restaurant. I haven’t been in a while but my return did not disappoint. The vibe is wonderful from the second you walk in – super cool and stylish, but still laid-back and comfy. The staff is friendly and timely. Our server was there exactly when we needed her, but never bugging us. Everything we ordered was absolutely delicious. If you're looking for a spot with a killer atmosphere, awesome service, and food that'll make your taste buds sing, this is it!

We had a surprisingly good dinner last night with an amazingly kind and lovely server, Stephan. We had no trouble walking in and getting a table for two. We ordered the gem lettuce salad, crispy cauliflower, cabbage, and the pork chop with a glass of the Chilean cab franc and everything was delicious. The pork chop serving was too much for the two of us to finish but we wanted solid veggies and may have ordered too many appetizers before the entree. We split everything. We highly recommend if you are LoDo looking for a really lovely and definitely not snooty experience. Oh and the music wasn’t too loud making it possible for us to have a nice conversation.

Amazing topas style meal. Service was super quick and very knowledgeable. Perfect place for long or short meals. I loved the fish and fresh oysters. We also had the carrots, Kansas City, steak, stable fish, and chicken. For desert we had the delicious ice cream sandwich. Highly recommend for celebrations, business meetings or just a fun date.

I recently visited this excellent restaurant in downtown and was thoroughly impressed. The atmosphere is incredibly pleasant, with top-notch decor and very good service. However, the highlight of the experience was undoubtedly the food. It took me a while to find a place in Denver with delicious, tender, and well-prepared meat, but this restaurant nailed it. The portions were generous, making it a great value for the price, especially by Denver standards. My wife and I ate well without spending a fortune, which is a rarity here. They also have a wide variety of drinks/cocktails, though we didn't try any this time since we were focused on savoring the food. The place is spacious and would be great for a birthday celebration or a gathering with friends. Considering the price, the amount of food, and the flavor, I would definitely return many times. Highly recommend this place!

This was my first time visiting The Kitchen American Bistro, and from the moment I walked in, I knew I was in good hands. I had the pleasure of having Momi as my server, and I mentioned right away that it was my first time here and I wasn’t sure what to order. She didn’t miss a beat — she recommended starting with their signature “Downtown Derby” cocktail. Great call — it was the perfect way to kick off the night. After that, I decided to fully trust Momi’s recommendations and let her guide the entire dinner. First up was the Carrots plate — I’ll admit, I was a little skeptical at first (it’s just carrots, right?) — but when the dish arrived, it completely exceeded my expectations. A fantastic start. Next came the Lamb Arayas — absolutely a 5 out of 5. Tender, flavorful, and beautifully presented. Momi then surprised me with Grilled Oysters, which were also very good — I’d give them a solid 4 out of 5. For the main course, she suggested the Bone Marrow, and let me tell you, it was another knockout — easily another 5 out of 5 and something I would highly recommend to anyone visiting. To finish, Momi insisted I couldn’t leave without trying the Mousse Dome for dessert — she was absolutely right. The perfect ending to an outstanding evening. Overall, between the food, the service, and the experience, The Kitchen delivered a night to remember. Huge thanks to Momi for making my first visit unforgettable — I’ll definitely be back!

We had our anniversary dinner here and it was divine. Personally loved the bone marrow, crispy cod, carrots, and mousse dome. Welp - that's everything we ordered. I'd say the mousse dome is my favorite (and I don't even eat desserts). Lovely experience overall and beautiful company.

K

Excellent service by our server extraordinaire. Food came out out timed well to enjoy each course. Great to have larger portions that are shareable. I only wish the bone marrow had a little more marrow. We were able to try so many things, but I highly recommend the carrots, mushrooms and the asparagus tostada. We will be visiting the Boulder location next time to check out their layout of the space to compare.

Comfortable setting, great service, excellent food. The restaurant was well staffed, even on a Wednesday evening, so service was attentive and friendly. Menu has a lot of variety, but I will say it's a pretty heavy selection of dishes - a lot of butter and cream, everything was delicious and very well prepared, but quite rich. Portions are appropriate for one person as a meal, or great to share with 2-4 people per dish. Desserts were phenomenal (citrus creme brulee, macaron ice cream sandwich) - not super sweet, a ton of flavor and nuance. Restaurant is cozy, comfortable and engaging without being noisy. Meal was actually quite reasonably priced for as well crafted as everything was. We'll be back!

Everything was excellent! The food, the service, the atmosphere. I was pleased and satisfied with food, drinks and beautiful interior design of the place. Our server Michelle was just amazing! We definitely will come back. We stopped here for lunch. My husband had a burger and I had pasta. The glass of wine was very nice too. I believe it was Syrah from France. Beautiful interior and the bathroom was clean and fancy.

This review is a long-overdue tribute to our favorite restaurant in Denver, where we dine at least once a month. The ambiance, stellar service, delicious food, and prime location make this restaurant a top choice for a date night, professional dinner with colleagues, or catching up with old friends. The food is always crave worthy and memorable, and they truly do amazing things with starters and vegetables, including their carrots with whipped feta and the cabbage dish (both of which converted a “veggie skeptic,” like me, and now I can’t get enough)! They also do a wonderful job with staple items across the menu (favorites include roast chicken with garlic fries – get it “deconstructed” – pork chop with rye spaetzle, strip steak with chimichurri, lobster roll, gnocchetti, tagliatelle, and the mousse dome) and delicious seasonal items (including asparagus tostada, burrata with rotating jam accompaniments, and sweet corn bhel). We tried the halibut steak a few days ago and WOW, the brown butter and cook on the fish were sensational! We also tried the new chocolate cheesecake and the flavors and textures were absolute perfection! The cocktails are consistently great, and they have new concoctions every season that are just as pleasing to the eye as they are to the taste buds. One item we are begging them to bring back is the crispy artichokes with black garlic aioli…we’ve tried to make that ourselves and it’s not the same! We really hope to see these on a future menu again! Perhaps the most important part of dining at The Kitchen is their hospitality and attention to detail, which makes us feel like we’re getting “white tablecloth” service every time. We cannot visit this restaurant without asking to be seated in Julianna’s section – her expansive knowledge of food and wine are only surpassed by her warmth, hospitality, and top notch professionalism! Every time we are seated in her section, we know that we’re in for first-class service and her joyous attitude is truly infectious!! We’ve also been very happy with Jason and impressed by his excellent recommendations and friendliness, as well as Stephan—who convinced me to try their “Bourbon for Apples” cocktail that I can’t stop thinking about (despite not being a big Bourbon fan)! I’m not sure whether it’s a combination of hiring great people or having great training, but there’s something special in the water (still or, even better, FREE sparkling) at this place. There are so many great places to eat in Denver, but The Kitchen truly stands out in terms of delicious eats and unparalleled service. We’ve taken many friends and colleagues here, and The Kitchen consistently knocks it out of the park on every visit. This restaurant is a gem in the Denver food scene and we can’t recommend it enough!

Best churro doughnuts or churro like dessert I’ve had. They were airy and melt in your mouth and paired with 2 options of dipping sauce. Can’t recommend enough!

Yesterday me and my husband had a dinner at The Kitchen. We loved everything food, atmosphere, and service) From the food our favourite were Bone Marrow with lamb and Pavlova dessert. Also garlic fries was really good) The only one thing that we didn’t like was lamb tartare: it was very bland, no salt at all, and it was too sour and dry. There was no sauce or oil. We returned it and ordered lamb arayes which was a little bit overcooked bit labne sauce made this dish so tasty and delicious) Cocktails were also delicious)

Ive just been exploring downtown Denver while I'm here for the week on business and I stumbled across this place. The menu is unique, and everything sounds amazing. I ended up trying the kitchen margarita, lamb, shrimp a la plancha, lamb arayas, and finishing off with a cappuccino and Crème brûlée. I don't need to break it down by dish but every single thing was so flavorful, and the best food I've had here so far. Highly recommend this place if you're in town.

We came here for thanksgiving dinner as we are visiting Colorado for the holiday weekend. The layout of the restaurant is quite lovely and the lighting is dim and calming. We ordered their thanksgiving food menu and every bite was as delicious as the previous. They had an appetizer, a main, and then desert. The main included a handful of sides including Brussels sprouts and green beans. Everything was stacked high and delicious! Everything was a great experience overall however it started off a bit unexpected! We started out with salad and soup. However as I was eating the salad, I bit into a piece of ceramic in my salad; lucky I didn’t swallow it. I gave it to one of the servers asking what the heck was this. She went to grab a manager and the Manager came by and said “it was a piece of a plate, and asked me if I wanted another salad or anything else”. They took care of the whole night and the manager always kept an eye on us thru out the evening. Honestly one of the best customer service experiences at a restaurant we’ve ever been to. The whole evening was great this is a place you have to go to when you visit Denver!!! Service food and atmosphere what more could you ask for!

My husband and I came here for dinner, celebrating 10 years of marriage! This place did NOT disappoint! I'm a little more cultured and adventurous when it comes to trying new food but my husband is not. From the hosts to the waiters, to the bussing; this place blew our minds. He enjoyed every bite, and so did I. He had never experienced a dining facility where the whole meal was shared. To tell you that it was an unforgettable experience would not do it justice. We ordered the Parker House Rolls and Grilled Oysters to start. Then followed by the Black Spaghetti and the Ranch Steak. We ended the meal with the Baked Alaska dessert, and every bite was exquisite. To pair with our meals, he ordered the American IPA and I started with the Third Star to the Left and had their Merlot with our main course. The drinks were perfection paired with the courses.

Service was very slow, but it was quickly made up for by the delicious food. The only item ordered by my large group that was undrinkable was the bloody Mary. The farmhouse was perfect. The sourdough breed was fantastic.

Came here with my coworkers for business so I couldn't really take photos and really appreciate the food and which dishes we ordered but all I can remember was everything tasted fabulous! Got the chance to take photos of some of the dishes though and each of these was worth it, even the french fries. And our French server was really nice and I got to say the last 5 French words I still remember :) Worth the try and you won't be disappointed.

This was our first time here. Love the atmosphere. The service was excellent. The vibes were on point. The food was not what I expected. It shattered our expectations with incredible choices. Flavors in every course is unique and so well put together. There was a mistake on one of our plates but service was quick to replace and they compt that dish which was not necessary. I will be coming back again and I suggest making a reservation.

Great service, we really loved our server. We came for brunch and it wasn’t very busy at all, but I think it was a Sunday around 10am or so. The food was pretty good and I have no complaints about this place.

What a great find. Had a delicious dinner here after the Giants game. The Lobster roll was fantastic , as were those amazing carrots. Had the crab fried rice, chocolate mousse and the cheesecake. So good and the service was beyond friendly. Will be back for sure.

Couldn’t have been happier with my experience here. The food was packed with flavor, and the service was exquisite. The dessert was a chocolate mousse mound (or something, I can’t remember the actual name!) depending on how I ate it (eating the almonds first and then the mousse, or mousse first followed by meringue) it tasted different with each bite. It actually gave me goosebumps it was so good! I’m definitely coming back.

The wife and I stopped in on my birthday before a show at the Ball area and we really enjoyed it. Let me first say the bathroom is the nicest in downtown Denver. They have real lit candles. Aside from the great service we received at the bar, the cocktails and desserts are amazing. We look forward to go back for dinner.

Wonderful experience! Much thanks to our bartender/server Raymien! He recommended everything we drank and ate, and it was excellent! Came back two days in a row! Definitely a new favorite spot when we come to Denver.

ABSOLUTELY AMAZING EXPERIENCE!!! Goodness, this place was so fantastic!!! We wandered downtown for an hour trying to find a place to eat. Decided to try this spot and our socks were blown right off. We were a party of 4 (Dad is extremely picky) and we loved the food, drinks and server. I will say none of us were starving, so sharing small plates seemed perfect for us. It was a great drink list (even craft non-alcoholic beer for Dad) and my craft cocktail was outa’ sight! We ordered 2 crispy cod plates (the FLAVORS ON EVERY DISH WERE PERFECT, surprising and delicious), heirloom tomatoes (drooooool…), gnochetti, garlic fries…. And those desserts (you had us at chèvre cheesecake ❤️) were fabulous. The flavors were so interesting and perfect on all the dishes. Our group left absolutely happy and full. The bill was around $170 for 5 plates, 3 drinks and 2 desserts. Worth every penny! Their prices are very comparable to other upscale restaurants in the area. Our family is very picky and to find a fresh, unique and delicious restaurant with impeccable service that serves food for meat eaters and vegetarians is golden 💫

The food at The Kitchen was phenomenal. Our server recommended the carrot appetizer, and it was amazing. The atmosphere for a Thursday afternoon lunch was lovely; it wasn’t overly busy and the staff were very attentive. I had the southern fried chicken sandwich. It had TONS of flavor - and reheated well in the air frier! I will definitely visit The Kitchen again.

I stopped in this attractive restaurant for a late light lunch. The kale salad with smoked trout was very good (wow, kale properly prepared!). Would have liked a few more crunchy vegetable ingredients. Service was super friendly. The music was SO LOUD that first I had to request a table away from the speaker. But even with my EarLoops in, it was still so unpleasantly loud that it ends up stressing you out. Mind you, there was only one other table of customers...not a big crowd scene. Honestly, if I want loud music, I'll go to a bar with a live band.

My team and I recently hosted a corporate event and dinner here, and it went wonderfully. Working with the staff, including Sammy Moody, was an excellent experience, and they ensured everything went off without a hitch. We will absolutely be returning to host future events with The Kitchen!

We had a wonderful evening, sharing small plates and wine. Our selections included the carrots, the Burrata, crab fried rice , squash, and gnocchi Bolognese. The carrots were caramelized cut on whipped feta with a slight kick in flavor. The burrata had a bit of sweetness from the fig spread that it rested upon. The bread with the Burrata was so amazing! Large pieces of crispy bread with just the right amount of oil, the combination was delicious. The gnocchi was the size of tater tots, but so much better than tater tots. The Bolognese with the gnocchi was just perfect. Both tastes complementing each other, not overwhelming. The crab fried rice was unique in a very good way. So many flavors coming together. It was an experience! Our waiter, Stephan, he attended to every need before we knew we needed something. I highly recommend this restaurant.

We walked in on a whim yesterday since we were nearby, and everything ended up being fantastic. The service was outstanding from start to finish despite being busy, and the food somehow topped it!! Everything we had was so well done, but the carrots were honestly one of the best things I’ve eaten all year. Didn’t expect that at all, but they completely stole the show. I now understand why everyone recommended them. The host with the pink hair was so kind and really helped make an ordinary night a very memorable night for us. She was incredibly welcoming, and went out of her way to accommodate us and make sure we felt taken care of right from the moment we walked in. Thank you for being awesome and getting us in! Overall, great food, great service, and a solid vibe. Definitely glad we stopped in and will absolutely come back soon.

I went last year with my girlfriend, and the experience was absolutely amazing. The staff was great, and placed us in a table that was looking outside near the front, the waitstaff was amazing. He explained the menu, made sure our drinks were full, but the meal was some of the best food ive had. we had the CRISPY CAULIFLOWER and the GNOCCHETTI. Both were to die for!!! my girlfriend is a vegetarian, and shes a great cook her own right so shes very picky. she even agreed that everything was 5 stars. id highly recommend this spot for a night out or a date night!

Spectacular. Juliana was the main server for our large work group. Could not have been more pleased with her. She remembered my name from me saying it once, immediately handled every issue, and never seemed to slow down. Just amazing. Food was excellent. Drink options had variety. Would absolutely return for a work dinner or date night with the wife. Sarah, the manager, was on top of everything from start to finish. Really well structured and organized group.

I visited this establishment just yesterday with three companions. The food was excellent, though the portion sizes were somewhat modest—making the Belgian Waffle ideal for sharing. This venue is well-suited for both large and small groups, and also offers outdoor seating. The service was commendable; our server consistently checked in with us, ensured our meals were promptly delivered, and confirmed that everything met our expectations. The menu offers a diverse selection of dishes, making it an outstanding choice for brunch. I highly recommend it.

First trial reviews are always flawed. One try does not get a feel for the operation, it can reflect as much on the reviewer's performance as on the restaurant's. I think the food was very good, so I have boosted my overall rating to a 4, I found the service lacking and frankly the atmosphere was missing. I am not going to over emphasis that, and I thing part of that was time of day, but it was not good. More below. My better half raved about the Quiche and Salad. She ate it all, every bite of it. I had the Cubano and I enjoyed it. I will not say it was the best ever, but it was good. I would have it again, because I did enjoy it, it juat was not what I expected or have come to think of as a Cubano. The fries were hot and well salted. The service. Well we waited over 30 minutes for an order that was basically a sandwich and quiche. It was change over from lunch to whatever their mid day is. The explanation was that the order did not print correctly. Ok I get that, but it is the wait-staff's job to keep track of that. There was no atmosphere, the restaurant is lovely, in an old building, wood and exposed columns and trendy where and it all worked. But I suspect that the change over routine just killed any atmosphere there may have been. And a final gripe, the bill included a 2% "Surcharge". Seriously, you run a restaurant, what's a surcharge for? Did I chage you for having to wait 33 minutes for my order? It's bad enough that we have to ask our internet provider about their "surcharges" now I have to inquire regarding menu pricing policies.

Arrived a little earlier for the reservation and the table was all set and ready. The server welcomed us and gave us time to look the menu over. The menu is pretty eclectic and includes pretty and delicious cocktails. Lots of Asian-influenced dishes, all prepared to order. The good tasted fresh and it was well seasoned. All delicious but the steak was not tender enough for my liking. Portions are on the small side and served family style. A great place to spend an evening with friends.

Went during happy hour and I got the fried chicken sandwich- although the flavor was very good, the chicken was dry. I found myself dipping my sandwich in the fry sauce (not cute). The burger was perfectly cooked and they also let us sub garlic fries for regular fries with no extra cost. The fries were excellent and our waiter was incredibly attentive and kind.

I work in the area, and love getting out to new or comfortable places after my shift when I'm able. The Kitchen's fast becoming a favorite of mine. I've been twice, now, and definitely enjoy the variety of options available on the menu. I only wish there were more wines by the glass available, as I work in a wine-oriented restaurant myself. But the cocktails are excellent. The food is amazing, too. Never knew carrots could be so delightful. The cast iron chicken I had was simply incredible, but the sauce wasn't as creamy as I was excepting based on the menu. Not too big of an issue, apart from the sweet potato fries ended up being either delightfully cooked or soaked too long in the sauce, leaving them soggy and a bit sad. Overall, still an amazing dish just perhaps needs a little refinement. It's a wonderful chic interior, and the bar is wonderfully modern. Attentive service at the bar could be improved by a couple bartenders, as I sat alone and without engaging conversation on my second visit. As a bartender, it's all about those connections with people. Overall, looking forward to trying more and seeing more, especially if the menu updates seasonally as I was told.

The Kitchen does not offer a specialized cuisine but one that offers some tasty dishes that can be labeled as New American. The carrots with pistachio and feta is a clean way to start the meal, while the Gnocchetti is delightful. Order the strip steak with Chimichurri for a generous portion and make sure the hand-cut fries are ordered. The fries are perfectly done. The Pot Au Chocolat is exceptional, one of the best desserts in the area. When going to The Kitchen, expect shareable portions, a nice ambience, and some very good dishes.

Update: I went back at the manager’s invitation and tried dinner. I had a vegetarian cauliflower and chickpeas dish that was very tasty and my son had pasta bolognese, which said was good. For dessert we shared creme brûlée also good but not great. While the atmosphere is nice and service is very good, the prices are still very high for the quantity offered. I would have given 4 stars if it wasn’t for the service. She forgot to put the salad order in so I got the waffle and waited. I reminded her but by the time I got the salad and ate it, the waffle was cold. Otherwise the food is tasty and they use high quality ingredients. My son said the chicken sandwich was really good.

Beautiful space and great people at The Kitchen American in downtown Denver. I ordered the Cubano and the flavors were good, but the bread was a bit soggy. I would still come back because the service and atmosphere were excellent.

Visited during a company dinner outing with a group of 8. Their food and drink options were plentiful for guests with dietary restrictions. Food quality was impressive, specifically with the small plates/sharables. The entrees across the board were slightly below expectations due to the over-salted flavors. This was the case for the roast chicken, lamb bone marrow, and steak. Recommended sharables - oysters (best dish but only 4 quantity) and crab fried rice. Outside of food, service was great and the dining area was a bit loud. Conversations were hard to hear and seating was a bit far apart from each other for our group size of 8.

J

Felt out of place here at 6pm on a Friday on a date with my boo. We went because we were gifted a gift card, but probably wouldn’t have picked this place if that hadn’t been the case (I had previously been disappointed at the Boulder location). Portions/serving size feels criminal with price in context — especially from a menu that boasts plates intended for sharing/family style. Was only sharing with my man, spent over $120 and still left hungry.

M
Mike Samaras

I'm ok spending more money on food but $130 without tip for a glass of wine, an old fashion, salmon and crab fried rice. The menu says portions to share. That is seriously laughable. We ended up going to a fast food place because we left hungry and didn't want to waste our money. Severely overpriced for what it was. The wait staff was nice but we were ignored for a hot minute. 8/10 do not recommend. what we did share, it was good but not that good. I saw someone order the lobster roll and I just laughed and said, I'm glad I'm not that guy. Boy did I get screwed too.

Ok, so I came here for a work lunch outing. There were 10 of us. The small plates were phenomenal. Especially the burrata and bread. We also had the carrots and garlic fries. The service was great and our waitress was very nice. 3 of us at our table got the Steak & Frites. All 3 of us were disappointed. Way over cooked and cold. I ordered medium rare and got medium well bordering well done, but after thinking about it, how can anyone get a steak medium rare when the steak is the width of the fries that you’re served. Extremely thin steak. About 1/4th the width of what maybe your typical ribeye is. I know we were a big table, but the chef needs to work on timing the plates correctly so our very thin $30 steak isn’t cold. From my experience, weekday lunch atmosphere is great and so is the service, along with the starters, but the main entree is extremely overpriced. $30 for that steak entree is a complete joke. Chapin- I see your response to people complaining about the steak. I guess the chef still hasn’t gotten the memo…

This used to be a favorite. Tasty, shareable dishes, great flavors and great service. THAT HAS CHANGED! The small dishes no longer are shareable. For example the carrots with whipped Feta, pistachios, used to be a very tasty, shareable dish. No longer. The waiters we have had two times in a row "apologized" for the lack of carrots in the dish. The cauliflower dish had a similar disappointing experience. The dish went from a healthy serving to share to approximately 1- 1.5 carrots on a plate half the size it was served on previously. Similarly, the Shrimp dish had 3 (Yes, three prawns). How do you share that. The waiters and the restaurant need to stop talking about shareable dishes. On top of that the dishes we ordered were cold and the presentation was mediocre. Again, we consider ourselves regular patrons having been to this restaurant at least 10+ times since moving here several years ago. On this occasion, we brought visitors to the restaurant and were literally astonished how poor the restaurant has gone downhill. No longer will we be going to The Kitchen. Separately, there is one Male waiter, who has been there for several years now and we were disappointed in having him as our server again, he just doesn't dazzle, he is unapologetic for anything and everything......... our rating is a 2 star given we used to give this restaurant a 5 star rating. Kimball Musk needs to do better......It's like DOGE got a hold of this place......(note to audience, this place is owned by Elon's Brother a restauranteur, Kimball Musk.). Key word search: Disappointing!

Atmosphere and service were good, BUT: - mussels were the smallest I’ve seen in my life, less than half an inch across (animal inside). The entire bowl of mussels would have amounted to less food than a single NZ green-lipped mussel, and that’s not an exaggeration. - for the main I had gnocchi and these had been cooked, then fried before added to sauce. I’ve never experienced or even heard of fried gnocchi. The whole point is they are supposed to be soft and tender. And nowhere on the menu did they mention frying the gnocchi. Luckily I was with a group and able to share the other appetisers and mains which weren’t so bad. Our waiter was apologetic and helpful too.

We've been dining at The Kitchen for over 4 years. It has been a favorite—a reliable spot when we want to impress out-of-town guests, treat ourselves, and make a recommendation. It pains me to write this review, but I rely on reviews, so I need to let people know our opinion has changed. The menu is still diverse and creative. The food is also prepared with genuine love and craftsmanship. This is about the value. There are two dishes that my husband and I reliably order: the Carrots with Whipped Feta and the Crispy Cauliflower. Four years ago, our minds were blown by these dishes. We ordered other dishes, only because we wanted to taste more things, but these dishes alone were very satisfying. The carrots were a mountain of spiced orange discs, and the cauliflower was a whole cauliflower, expertly prepared with spices and crunchy chickpeas, mango, and pickled onion—a cornucopia of flavor. Over the years, we've noticed the shrinking portions, but nothing prepared us for the carrot dish that was once served on a dinner plate, now being offered to us on a dessert plate. There were definitely not more than 1 1/2 carrots. It was literally laughable. The cauliflower looks to be half a cauliflower from a whole, and at $24.50, it's hard to justify, despite the magic the kitchen is producing. My aunt ordered Shrimp a la Plancha. The sauce was abundant, so I didn't realize the dish only had three shrimp for $24.50. She ordered dessert because she was still hungry, not because it was a sweet treat to end the meal. Interestingly, the Crispy Cod I ordered was a particularly large portion. I happily offered to share with my party as they tried to make sense of their paltry plates. I feel sorry for the servers who deliver these dishes. Most of them have been at The Kitchen for years, so they're aware of the dwindling portion sizes. While I felt sorry for our server (who has served us over the years), his snarky response to my husband's comment about the measly carrot portion was inappropriate. He could have just acknowledged it and moved on. Yes, inflation is real, and The Kitchen has decided to address it with portion sizes. Interestingly, now that I'm looking at other comparable restaurants in the area, I am seeing more reasonable prices. Will I be disappointed to discover minuscule portion sizes? I'm willing to find out.
