Opinions de Bar Pigalle Detroit
Absolutely amazing dining experience all around. We started off the meal with a recommended bottle of wine from our very knowledgeable, personable, and attentive server, Greg, that was absolutely wonderful! Then chose to take on the chef’s tasting and was absolutely floored by all of the exquisite food. It was five courses and with two guests we got two plates to share for each course and one for dessert. The food was presented beautifully and tasted even better! My personal favorite were the baked scallops and butternut squash filled tortellini in a creamy parmesan sauce. We were absolutely stuffed by the end but still saved room to each try a cocktail and they were wonderfully balanced and flavor packed as well! The experience as a whole was one of the top best dining experiences I have ever had and I will definitely be returning as often as I can.
I don’t want to be dramatic, but the smash burger at Bar Pigalle might've changed my life. I took one bite and heard a choir of angels—or maybe that was just me sobbing with joy. Either way, 10/10. The staff? Lovely. The service? Smoother than jazz on a Sunday morning. The atmosphere? It made me feel cooler than I actually am (which is impressive). Seriously, if you haven’t been… go. If you have been… why aren’t you there right now?
There is a lot to to say about our visit to Bar Pigalle. To begin with, the actual dining room and bar decor is stunning. The service was impeccable. Our waitress Claire was amazing at knowing what are needs were before we did. The food was out of this world delicious. All I can say is, I want more. I had the roasted 1/2 chicken which was roasted to perfection, my sister-in-law had the gnocchi which melted in your mouth, and my brother had the seared scallops. We also had crab-augratin, fingerling potatoes, and creamed corn. For dessert we had the crème bulee, and lemon cake with blueberry granola and corn/vanilla ice cream. Out of this world experience. Please do not miss this gem.
Update September 2024 Food was great, both taste and presentation, different from a prior experience. Cocktails were delicious too. Original review: 2022 Food: Just ok. Nothing super. Presentation >>> taste Drinks: Great cocktails and can make you something off menu if wanted. Atmosphere: casual, friendly, unassuming. The only thing is there are only two bathrooms so there's a line to use it. Service: friendly and non-pushy
The food was wonderful. Our server Greg did a great job on timing out our courses. The special for the weekend was the veal, it was amazing. The chicken liver pate was great.
Amazing service and absolutely delicious food. I had the steak tartare… possibly the best steak tartare I’ve ever had (although Boka in Chicago still has my heart)… better than some places in Paris for sure. Campanelle was surprising. Felt more autumnal than a summery dish for me but the earthiness of the wild mushrooms and nutty bitterness of the rapini went beautifully with the sweet creaminess of the burrata. Had a dessert available today that was off the menu— brûléed figs with blueberry ricotta ice cream… a summer dream. Really love that they use metal straws instead of plastic or paper :)))) love some reusability and sustainability! My server Brandon was amazing and explained each dish for me and helped provide recommendations not only for what to order here but for other places to visit in Detroit as well (it’s my first time in the city). Great vibes, great food.
I frequent upscale restaurants in Detroit. I’d only seen this joint while trying to come up with some ideas for my Sunday Funday activities which typically involve a stop at 3 - 5 pretty nice places. But I hadn’t heard of it and neither had any of my foodie buddies. I got a call a couple days later asking if I’d been to Bar Pigalle yet. Some friends knew the chef or the owner and wanted to know what I thought. So I got a reservation the next week before the always amazing Air Supply concert. I expected it to be nice but they honestly exceeded my expectations. My server was super knowledgeable and the support staff was excellent as well. I probably had 4 additional food runners and server assistants who cleared courses, refilled water, and made additional suggestions. I ordered the tasting menu and loved every course. I hate duck but that duck confit was EASILY the best duck I’ve tasted. The calabrian chili sauce in the mussels was equally as ridiculously good. The bone marrow was excellent and not anything I would’ve ordered had the chef not been the one to select my courses. My server continued to impress with his descriptions for my wine pairings. Most servers do not know their menu like he did. Dude was a total pro. He was aware of my minor time constraint and kept everything rolling. Lamb chops and chocolate pot de crème courses were great too. I can’t wait to go back. I’ll be out of town next weekend. But I may try to run through again the following week.
Great new place with amazing decor, service and food/cocktails! It was probably the first French leaning restaurant that was filling for me. The wife and I selected the chef's tasting menu with 9 courses, including dessert and was not disappointed. The story of how the restaurant was started was told by our waiter and friend of the owner...quite memorable. We'll be back with friends.
Found the atmosphere and service to be excellent. Did the tasting menu for food on a Friday night. Overall, it was great. There were 9 dishes, and it was $95 a person. Loved most of the dishes, but not everything was up our alley. Nonetheless, most of the food was excellent. Would definitely go back, but this isn't a place I would frequent often, just for some special occasions. $180 before drinks is a little expensive. -Salad -Oysters -Fois Gras Mousse -Bone Marrow/Beef Tartare -Scallops -Braised Short Rib -Quail -Brussel Sprouts with Brie - Chocolate Ganache Bar
Loved this place. Kevin our waiter was really amazing and gave us some history on the place which I appreciated so much. The steak frites were amazing!
Love Bar Pigalle for cocktails and wine solo at the bar or for a night out with friends over their superb menu. Phenomenal wine list and super knowledgeable bartenders. The service is always really good and servers are extremely helpful with making decisions...even if it's to order to entire menu! Dinner and brunch are out of this world.
I went here with a group of three and really enjoyed myself. I tried both bourbon based drinks on the menu. Both were well balanced and decently strong. We ordered a bunch plates, as this is a place where you share plates. We had everything from a salad to ravioli to lamb chops to potatoes to duck confit to papa’s frites. M…. I think the duck was the winner although everything was good! I also had the key lime pie for dessert, it was good as well which tells me that this place does it all well. In addition, the staffs service was great. Overall this is a great place to have a meal!
TL;DL - Great food, great service will dine again!!! My wife took me out to celebrate my birthday after visiting BASK! We were unfamiliar with the restaurant and some the new surrounding restaurants but wanted to give this a try. We didn’t have a reservation however the hostess was so kind to arrange to make accommodations for us to have table. We order our first course raw oysters from Nova Scotia (with house made sauces), foie gras with apples — so good! We then plunged in a second course of prawns and duck confit with beans and sausage — both dishes were tasty and full of lace. The shrimp dish was a bit over salted and the duck confit was a bit crisp. The style was different but the food was extremely delicious. Next we had scallops and ricotta gnocchi. The scallops were perfectly cooked but the flavor they added with the additional elevated the dish so well however the gnocchi stole the show. There were 5 or more distinct flavors in the dish and it made me want to take a bowl and sit by a fire place with a book. Finally the deserts - ok crème brûlée it was better than expected in most US restaurants! Loved it! The poached pear with miso cream and caramel, this left me with happiness, it was so good, not too sweet and not overwhelming! Will visit this spot again, Greg our waiter was great as well as the host and other wait staff!!
I really enjoyed my dinner here on a random Monday night. Food- excellent flavor and presentation. They don’t have a very large menu but we tried the ricotta gnocchi, mussels, and steak frites, all are very delicious and well made. Especially the mussels, they were fat and the sauce it came with was well balanced of sourness flavor. Service- everyone was eager to help during our dinner. All the employee seemed very knowledgable about the menu, even offering suggestions and background to the restaurant. Atmosphere- street parking right outside the restaurant made it convenient. The interior was nicely decorated and dimly lit for a good date night vibe. The bar had a huge selection of liquor and it was display very well to really draw the eyes to the bar area. Cocktails- well balanced and beautifully presented. The out of office drink was my favorite. Overall, I would definitely stop here next time I’m in the area.
Overall a solid place for a good French meal. We did the tasting menu so we could get a sense of the chef and thier sensibilities. We ordered oysters to start which are served with restaurant-made sauces where are both excellent 👌. The first appetizer came in: a himachi crudo in a Southeast Asian inspired coconut curry sauce. Everything tasted good, but I don't know himachi was the best choice for the sauce as it was drowned and lost in it. Second course was the fish course which was a wonderfully pan fried white fish. The picked veggies that came with it were a perfect balance to the fat of the sauce and fish. Wonderful dish. Third was main course. A duck confit which was also excellent 👌. It came on top of a hearty stew if veggies great choice. The dessert was also great. Giant gingerbread Madeleine's with an awesome ice cream. Very creative and a great way to end the meal. A couple of notes on the non-food aspects of the restaurant. The place very much has a cocktail bar feel and sometimes the overall atmosphere seemed a little chaotic for the fine meal we were having. Not a huge problem but be advised that this place feel neither quite like bar and neither quite like fine restaurant but somewhere in between. Part of the chaos was the servers bumping into chairs and tables and occasionally dropping things as they navigated the tightly laid out tables and chairs. I heavily weigh food in my ratings, so I didn't penalize the place too much for it, but I thought it interesting that I really noticed the service in this way. Overall, probably not not in the top tier of Detroit Metro's growing fine dining options, but a solid choice if you have a hankering for French Food or want some more casual.
My wife and I had dinner here for our anniversary and it was incredible. Honestly it’s everything you want in a restaurant like this. The drinks and the food were delicious, and every member of the staff was welcoming. We’ll definitely be coming back.
Bar Pigalle is one of those places that lingers in your memory long after you leave. The food? Absolutely exquisite. The steak tartare melts on the tongue, the steak frites could feed a small army (so unless you’ve got a giant’s appetite, plan to share), and the oysters were pure perfection. But let’s talk drinks, because the cocktails here steal the show. The Glass Garden is to die for, a masterpiece in a glass that makes you rethink what a cocktail can be. And then there’s the atmosphere, sultry, vibrant, full of character. What really sealed it for me, though, was the story behind how this place came to be. I won’t spoil it, you’ll want to hear it firsthand when you visit. Go once, and you’ll understand. Go twice, and you’ll probably already be planning your next visit.
A great place to dine at if you’re in Detroit! Loved their simple menu, we sat at the bar and the service was extremely fast and friendly. I’m a sucker for any French style bistro and this one hits the spot. Their burger is solid, my only knock is that it’s a bit messy and falls apart but the flavors are all there so it’s worth getting. We also got a snapper crudo that was awesome and then the marble potato dish that was potatoes with crème fraiche and ham, that was just okay. Burger doesn’t come with fries so make sure you get a side of those too!
Had the best time at fall brunch today and our waiter Kevin (also an owner) was so attentive and helpful. Everything was great and the portions were perfect for sharing.
Beautiful restaurant, fantastic service, and delicious food! Kevin was so warm and told us how the restaurant came to being. He went through the menu with us and paced it out. The bread service is a must...the butter compote is to die for. We also enjoyed the prosciutto special, crab garatin, and gnocchi.
Super cool interior decor! We enjoyed celebrating a birthday with fantastic cocktails and tasty food. Highly recommend the Frisèe Lardon salad and Red Snapper crudo appetizers. The chocolate mousse cake was very decadent and worth sharing.
Amazing!, Wonderful! A great place to hangout and enjoy a meal. Short walk from our hotel, will definitely be going back!
I visited with a party of six for Sunday brunch. It's a very nice place. The decor is in alignment with the theme. I would expect it to be a white table cloth and napkin vibe, with a maitre d that only speaks French. However , The staff was friendly and knowledgeable. The music also lets you know they know where they are and don't want to stray too far from their natural environment yet still keeping it classy. The drinks were great with a very reasonable strength to them. We had the Petite Maman and the Catamaran Cooler and of course Mimosas. We all liked our drinks enough that we did not order something different for the additionals. The food was excellent too. I had the Steak and Eggs with my egg scrambled instead of sunny. It was hands down, THE BEST I've had anywhere. Others in my party had the Cinnamon Brioche French Toast, Pigalle Burger, and the Duck and Waffles. Everyone enjoyed their food. This place is pricey but I really enjoyed it. I can say that I will visit again.
This restaurant does not have much curb appeal, it would be very easy to walk right by and not even notice it. I'm glad I stopped in, the hostess was full of smiles and very polite. There is a free parking lot across the street and free street parking. The atmosphere is on the darker side but has some glam to it as well. There are plenty of seats at the bar where drinks and food and be served. I just went in for a quick after dinner dessert, my creme brulee was very good. The top was caramelized to perfection and very sweet.
Wow, Detroit does it again. A fabulous restaurant in the heart of the city. Our waiter, Kevin, shared the great story of Pigale's origins. It was a great night, and I give it high ratings. I've been there a couple times now and it is consistently great service and the food has been really special every time. It is clear the team in the kitchen is passionate about both the flavors and the presentation. I've been here several times, and this last time, I tried the 5 course tasting. It was very special.
The stellar reviews left my expectations high and I must say, it delivers! Great location and atmosphere. Really thoughtful cocktail list and menu. The food was excellent. Everything was equally delicious as it was beautiful. Our server, Greg, was knowledgeable, helpful, and a true professional. One of the best servers I’ve had. If you are interested in trying a French restaurant in Detroit, I’d recommend Bar Pigalle. They also have their own parking lot which is a rare treat downtown!
I recently visited Bar Pigalle with a group of friends, and I must say, we were thoroughly impressed! The service was top-notch; the staff were attentive, friendly, and went above and beyond to ensure we had a fantastic experience. The cocktails were absolutely delightful - expertly crafted and bursting with flavor. While the food was good, it didn’t quite align with my personal taste preferences, but everyone else in our group loved it. Overall, Bar Pigalle exceeded our expectations, and we’ll definitely be returning for more fantastic cocktails and outstanding service!
A delightful experience to say the least. The atmosphere is small but modern and luxurious. The service was pretty good! Sam was personable and relatable. Evan was very helpful with the menu descriptions. My guest had a couple glasses of white wine and I had them improvise something for me. Both drinks were good. I ordered the 8 oz flat iron steak that was served with mashed potatoes and spinach and my guest ordered the Pigalle burger single. We split a side of hand-cut fries. Only great things to say about all of the food, especially my steak was very tender and well prepared with accessories. We were too full to order dessert but perhaps next time! Definitely intend to return.
Well, I met up with a couple of dear friends on Monday evening. One of them suggested this place, and let me tell you, she sure knew what she was talking about! The atmosphere was tidy and lively—just lovely. Our waitress, Genevieve, was an absolute delight. She had some wonderful suggestions for both cocktails and food, and she brought such a cheerful energy to our table. The whole staff was courteous and professional, which you don’t always find these days. And let’s not forget the parking—plenty of space, which is always a relief! I can already tell this will be one of my regular spots!
The server was attentive and kind. Knowledgeable and let us take our time. We will be back often. Perfect little spot and a hidden gem!
First time here and I was quite impressed. The food was excellent but the service was what really blew me away. Everyone was attentive, friendly, helpful and when I had an issue with one of my orders being undercooked, they went above and beyond to address this. This type of service does not go unnoticed and I cannot recommend this place highly enough. I tried the scallops, chicken, fingerling potatoes and salad. All were 10/10. Ice cream was offered, complementary and it was outstanding. It's made in house and it was perfect.
Easily one of the best all around meals I’ve ever had! The cocktails were amazing, especially the Good Behavior, but everyone raved about each one they had. The pate was a top 5 “starter” I’ve had in my life. I cannot express how great it was. Michigan cherries put it over the top. I thought there was no way that wouldn’t be the star of the night until the Duck Confit arrived. Best main dish I’ve had in my life and it’s not close. Absolutely blown away! I’ve been to Paris and this was better than anything I had over there. Our waiter Greg provided incredible service. Super chill and knew what he was talking about. Very attentive, explained everything very clearly, and gave great suggestions. Everything felt very personal. This place should have a line out the door every night. Could not suggest it enough and I will not shut up about it to anyone going to Detroit. 12/10
Got a burger & fries before the red wings game. The double burger is one of the best ive ever had. Fries were good too. We also tried the petitie salad which was refreshing and the fingerling potatoes were good also but the portion size on that particular dish seemed pretty small. The burger and fries are reasonably priced for what you get. Cocktail menu is tasty. The other food on the main menu looked really good but also pricey. They do have beer options as well. Definitely worth checking out! Id go back in a heartbeat.
Takes you through a culinary journey with their exquisite dishes. Phenomenal cocktails with perfect ambiance to get lost on an evening. On our anniversary we had mussels, sea bass with charcuterie as an opening. Serving granola as a base for a dessert with poached pear and ice cream worked surprisingly well.
As someone who has worked in the service industry for almost 15 years, this was one of the very few "10s" I've ever had in the service industry. The service, the food, everything was superb. Try the tasting menu and let them surprise you! Will return soon, a must try!
experience was a bit different than usual, maybe miscommunication of what a sauce entails on the steak…, but the team truly made it memorable. The GM, Olivia, was more than accommodating and went out of her way to ensure I was taken care of. Matt, our bartender, was absolutely amazing. Great service, great energy, and a place I will definitely be returning to like always.
A wonderful birthday experience! My guest and I enjoyed the tasting menu, with the optional wine pairing (for her). We were able to modify it slightly to accommodate a food allergy, and Greg and the entire staff came together to make our evening memorable. The comment we kept making was "attention to detail". Every aspect of the restaurant was carefully thought out. The decor, furnishings, and lighting all set a very welcoming vibe. Even the menus, businesses cards, ice, and straws were executed with intent. This was my favorite dining experience of 2025, and I look forward to returning.
This is this is this is one of our favorite places!! I've never had a bad meal here. And i've been here about ten times. For me that's saying something!! I seem to be one of those people that kind of get the bad meal out of the table. But never here, it always outstanding top notch cocktails too!! We were practicing dry january and I had what of the best non alcoholic drinks I've ever had usually, they're super sweet. This one was not, it was very refreshing!!
We are vegetarian and tried most of the veg options on the menu. We loved the gnocchi and petite salad. We also tried the potatoes and sweet potatoes which were both good. The bread and butter were yummy. Mocktails were ok but not my favorite. Service was spot on. Highly recommend.
Food was outstanding! Kevin was class as a server. Highly recommend all the dishes. We sampled 5 plus 2 desserts and loved absolutely everything! Great spot for a anniversary for your wife. Kevin has quite a cool story about the building and the business itself! Enjoy
This is a wonderful hidden gem of a place. The atmosphere and decor are gorgeous, everything is so thoughtfully put together and oozes elegance. This place is perfect to grab drinks at the bar with friends or to sit down for a cute date night. The bartenders are immensely educated and provide top notch service. Seriously some of the best bar conversation and well crafted drinks I’ve ever had. The menu is neat with options for most people. But the service is where they shine. Impeccable from start to finish and has been consistently wonderful across multiple visits.
Perfect location to grab a quick bite to eat before a show at the Fillmore. I have to be honest this was the best hamburger I’ve had in Detroit. The attentive staff made it fun and easy to stick around for an extra drink.
I only tried this place because I had Chase reward dining credit. Kind of an obscure out-of-the way location. Pretty expensive unless you can get the awesome burger which you have to sit at the bar certain days to get. Our server was great. Tables felt very close together
The host was very sweet and accommodating. Our server was wonderful and the additional staff helping on the floor were also friendly and prompt. The environment was warm and intimate. As the sun went down the lights inside also dimmed. It was a bit darker than I would have liked. The restaurant itself is not big and I would strongly recommend reservations. Decided to have my birthday dinner here and it was a great choice. Began dinner with the Butternut squash salad which was good. I wish the butternut squash had been roasted a bit and the salad was dressed more. The pecans were great and I loved the tart from the cranberries. We also decided to order the Brussel sprouts as part of the start and truly the best Brussel sprouts I’ve ever had. It’s going to be something I try to remake at home. For dinner Duck Confit and Steak Frites. Duck was served with sweet potatoes and salad on the side. It was wonderful! Salad again not really dressed but I loved all the components together. Steak was cook perfectly how we ordered, the fries were amazing. Thin and crispy. Also ordered the mushroom gratin, and if you love mushrooms I would recommend it. It was good. But a bit heavier than I would have liked. Dessert we ordered blueberry tart with lemon ice cream. It was really good. Also ordered the pumpkin gateau. It was good. I wish the squash ganache was not so salty. But it was served with a Tweel on top which was great and the frosting and cake itself were great. The cake was light and fluffy. The restaurant brought out a crème brûlée For my birthday and it was okay. The sugar was cooked a bit too far and the custard itself was a bit more loose than I would have liked. But flavor was there.
Butter, fat, and taste meet neo French, fabulously, a la D. Excellent service from friendly staff that should be the standard for any restaurant. Knowledgeable, kind and no pressure service that compliments the dining experience. Food was well prepared and presented. Very Yummy. Price point seems to be $100 per person with 1.5 cocktails. For the quality and taste of the food, mostly reasonable. Plates arrive as the order is prepared, so ordering a variety of items, enjoying conversation between deliveries, and sharing is a must. Definitely a chic space to enjoy a fatty flavor of butter and a Detroit style of French. Fenced parking across the street.
Lovely French bistro atmosphere. Craft cocktails and pricey wine. I went there for brunch. Enjoyed duck leg and waffles and brioche French toast Elegant well stocked bar. The French toast was delicious but very rich. The blueberry compote that came with it was delicious. Reservations recommended but my friend and I were there around noon on Sunday
Me and my man stumbled across this place looking for a good French 75. The atmosphere is nice and low lit. The drinks were exactly what we were looking for. We didn't come for food ,but when they brought out the burgers for another couple, we had to try. Overall everything was great. I would recommend.
I had two people recommend this spot and I was excited to try it. The hostess was wonderful in getting us a Rez. They have free parking across the street. We walked in and had to wait in line as we got there early. The people all moved quickly to get to the bar. We weren’t sure why. We had discussed that we both wanted the burger posted in pictures. We were disappointed to hear it was only served at the bar and the bar was packed. We decided to stay due to the difficulty of getting g a Rez now as it’ was a Saturday night. We were starving and ordered the bread platter, although delicious, $8 for bread at such a high end restaurant seems a lot. The other main course meals were expensive and not what we came for. We ended up splitting a salad, side dish, and a meal with two bread services. The food is unique and very rich. Would I recommend this place? Yes, either for a drink to see the fabulous interior, but not for dinner unless you are clear on what’s on the menu as the posted menu isn’t accurate. Great Cheesecake Dessert. I rarely post in a negative light, but I felt there was a false advertisement for this space in the pictures and the menu. I love trying all the spots in Detroit, so I’m glad I tried this space. We aren’t really French food lovers so probably not a great choice for us, but as stated, we came for something else. Great pice of Cheescake. Small portion. Great service and great ambiance. For $4 a soda and no refills, I wont be returning.
Wow. Super disappointed! Everything is super salty, not at all balanced. The atmosphere is way too bright. The only redemptive dish is their Brussels gratin. Frites were too salty, the fleischnacka tasted like a really poor make believe fusion version of a siu mai. Taste wise, I have no idea what the quail was stuffed with. My grandma makes a better frog legs just grilling it with honey (photos tells all). And their cocktails are super blah! What type of experiences are people having to give this rating??! The second star is for their private parking lot. At least that’s easy…
At first, everything was great — the wine and appetizers were very good, and we were really enjoying the atmosphere. Unfortunately, later a large party of about 15 people was seated right in the middle of the restaurant. They were extremely loud, laughing and drinking a lot, which made it impossible to have a normal conversation. My husband had to speak very loudly, and I still could barely hear him. If such large groups are hosted, it would be better to place them in a separate area, not in the center of the dining room. It was also hard to walk to the restroom because of how crowded it became. We asked to move to another table, but were told there were no seats available, and most of the tables were close to that party. The main dishes were disappointing. The half chicken was way too salty, and the mussels we ordered as our second entrée were undercooked. Overall, it started well but ended poorly — we were quite disappointed and unfortunately wouldn’t come back.
