Great meal. Best restaurant of our trip. We had two pizza’s and one pasta dish. All really good. Staff were excellent. Thanks will be back on our next trip.
Came here with my mom for dinner, and we were blown away! The food was incredible—some of the best Italian we’ve ever had—and the service made the whole experience even better. One certain gentleman, in particular, was so kind and welcoming, it felt like we were dining with family. Our meals arrived quickly, piping hot, and absolutely delicious. Can’t recommend this place enough!
If you are looking for the closest thing to tasting fresh pasta while sitting in a restaurant in Venice- this is it! We have tried a number of Italian joints across the globe and this is as close to sitting in Italy as you can get. From the caprese and vegetable soup (soup of the day) as a starter, to the carbonara or ragu for mains, down to the pistachio cakes and tiramisu- you can do no wrong for anything on the menu. It’s a family owned restaurant and you can tell the pride they take with every meal. Make a reservation to avoid being turned away (we got lucky when a last minute table opened up- even waiting 15min outside). It’s worth the entire wait. You won’t regret it.
Booked a table for 7 which was after a graduation, nice restaurant, great roomy seat on the back left side, nice menu and lunch was only £13:50 for 2 course or £15:50 for 3 which was fantastic value and the pizzas were huge and very tasty, I went for bruschetta to start which was a bit small only one bit bread, some others got the meats to start from the lunch menu which was great and I had carbonara which was excellent, even my mum said it was the best she had had. Only one thing for me might be worth listening to customers when we stuck with water and juice for the lunch as I don’t drink alcohol however I was asked at least 4 times even though I said at the start I don’t drink, that’s the only issue even down to the pudding when I was asked if I wanted a limoncello. Same person serving! I will return for lunch as great location and great food.
Amazing food, amazing staff. Food came out almost instantly and was high quality. This might have been one of the best restaurants I've ever been to. If you are looking for a place to eat, definitely take a visit.
It was amazing! Everything so perfect. I came here twice just because I loved it. We were super well served, the food was delicious and I have 0 things to complain about it. I do recommend for everyone who loves Italian food.
Piece of Italy in Edinburgh. Pasta was delicious, cooked to perfection. Staff is very attentive, and service is 5 stars. All orders came out at the same time, and we had a party of 15. It's definitely worth visit.
We indulged in a generous spread, insisting it was beyond consumption, yet the tempting flavors proved irresistible. The mussels fell short, slightly undercooked. Seated in the weekend buzz, our table in the lively "wing" amplified the ambient noise, blending with the overall restaurant chatter. Overall, the dining experience met commendable standards, both for Edinburgh and Spain. 😉
What a gem! Read the reviews and booked ahead which is a must. Even on a Sunday night they were packed. However that is well deserved! Excellent service, fantastic fresh and authentic food and a really homely but classic and friendly atmosphere. Definitely recommend!
This was some of the best Italian food we have ever had. On the recommendation of another diner we had the eggplant parmigiana and the day's ravioli. Started with the bruschetta which was flat bread heaped with sweet cherry tomatoes. The service was excellent and the restaurant itself was airy and handled sound well. The front of the restaurant was floor to ceiling windows so the restaurant was light. If this wasn't our last day in Edinburgh we would be back tomorrow.
Friendly service, good vibes and decor, and the food came like super super fast. And everything was delicious. I always judge an Italian restaurant by its sugo, and here it is a very good one. Nailed both the flavour and the consistency. The pasta was all cooked perfectly, the melanzane parmigiana was one of the best I've had for years, and all the ingredients in the caprese were high quality and super fresh.
Loved the services here! The waiter will explain and introduce all their dishes to you just so you will get the right idea of what they will be serving. We only had an hour to eat because we didn’t make any reservation but it was more than enough as they serve really quick! Their soup is amazing! Will def come back again!
The food was very fresh and delicious. The staff were polite and patient, and you could see that they cooked with love, there is also some gluten free options and the food also comes fast.
Visited here while staying in Edinburgh for a few days. Lovely staff with efficient and friendly service. The two pasta dishes we had were amazing and the pizza was the best I've ever had anywhere. Very reasonably priced too. Would highly recommend this place.
It is one of the best Italian meals I have had outside of Italy 🇮🇹, with the bonus of being very inexpensive. The staff were very friendly. This is my second visit. I will be back.
All the staff were super friendly. Our food arrived very quickly and it was delicious. The woodfired pizza was a highlight! We'll be back 👍
The portions are very generous, and the value for money is excellent! I’ve been here twice, and I absolutely love it. The food is delicious and affordable. The servers here are really nice and helpful. Highly recommended!
While many places ‘do’ Italian cuisine, not all do it well. L’Artigiano is easily one of the best that we have had during our travels. The restaurant is well laid out with a section in the front that feels more open and communal, and a more cozy section in the back. The service was quick, knowledgeable and friendly. Nice selection of wine options. The dishes were excellent in quality and the portions were just right. My pasta carbonara was creamy and delicious and my wife’s bolognese was rich, meaty and well balanced. Craving Italian cuisine in Edinburgh be sure to come here.
We only had pizzas but they were superb so, if the rest of the menu is just as good, it will be superb too. Fast, friendly service and a nice atmosphere too. We will definitely be returning customers.
Finally, a real taste of home! It’s not easy to find a little bit of Italy in Edinburgh, but this place nailed it. Great food and even better people—the staff are incredibly friendly and lovely.
Dinner for three of us, including a fairly difficult to please 5 year old. Friendly efficient service. Food was excellent and staff were attentive. Couldn’t really ask for more.
Such a lovely cosy restaurant with great food and friendly service! Came for lunch and could see why it had a great rating. I had the mussels and focaccia, the sauce was amazing! Really recommend
Lovely authentic tasty food delivered with panache by attentive knowledgeable staff. Pizza was quality and the pasta similarly had a real "home made" texture. Washed down with a recommended( by our server) fruity red wine. Service was prompt and likeable, all food was hot ,absolutely nothing to dis like, we will return!
Went here today for lunch and enjoyed the food very much. The waitress was very attentive and polite and always had a smile. The surroundings are very low key and pleasant and it was clear that there was a good atmosphere among the patrons who by the looks of things also enjoyed their food? This is a very good Italian restaurant in the city of Edinburgh, the drinks and wine menu was extensive and at reasonable prices. My only negative would be the gents toilets were a little below par with waste bins full of used hand towels and no had dryer. I would still recommend this restaurant as the food was really excellent
Location very close to the city centre. It has a nice seating area, great food, and exceptional service. It’s okay for walk-ins or reservations. It’s definitely a place to stay if you’re on a budget and want great food.
"I discovered this restaurant thanks to a recommendation from my tour guide. Unfortunately, my experience was not as enjoyable as I had hoped. We arrived without a reservation, but the restaurant was accommodating and seated us. I ordered pasta, which was cooked al dente – I didn’t mind that at all. However, the tomato sauce was not the best I’ve ever had, and it took a long time for us to receive the Parmesan cheese we requested. It seemed like they were understaffed. Overall, while I appreciated the recommendation, the service left much to be desired."
The carbonara pasta was absolutely wonderful and truly Italian — easily the highlight of our evening. Unfortunately, the pizza was a big disappointment and completely overshadowed what could have been a great dinner. We ordered a Diavola pizza and asked for no fresh chillies on half of it. Instead, we received a pizza where one half had only cheese and tomato sauce, and the other half was missing both the fresh chillies and the ’nduja altogether. I spoke to the staff to explain that this was not what we had ordered. We were asked whether we would like a new pizza or the missing ingredients added. However, the situation was not resolved properly. On the half with only cheese and sauce, the chef added some mushrooms — and that was all. The other half was still missing key ingredients ('nduja and chillies). To make matters worse, during our meal the staff approached our table twice to ask if we really had a reservation and under which name, which felt very inappropriate. We were also asked whether we live in Edinburgh. When I answered that we do not, the response was simply: “Okay, bye, bye.” Despite the excellent carbonara, our evening was ruined by the pizza issue and the unprofessional behaviour of the staff. Sadly, this left us with a very negative overall impression.
Absolutely butchered my steak. If you ask for a steak to be cooked blue and it comes out well done, you know they don't understand how to grill meat. Highly disappointing. Service not so great either, got seated waited to get any service despite it not being busy. Had to request some tap water on 4 occasions before finally getting a glass. Quite disappointing and don't understand why it's got any good reviews
RACISM staff I had a very disappointing experience here. When we walked in, there were clearly empty tables, and I also checked online at the time and saw that there was still availability. The first staff member told us to wait while they asked, but then a second person, who seemed like a supervisor, came back and told us the place was fully booked tonight. Based on what I saw, that explanation did not seem true. It felt like they simply did not want to serve us. The whole interaction came across as discriminatory and left us feeling unwelcome and humiliated. No customer should be treated this way.
We had a Christmas Day lunch set Menu and were very disappointed with the price and service for such a special day. Our bill came to $155 pound which is circa $300 Australian Dollars. The pasta main was hard and tasteless, and all other dishes were very underwhelming. The service was slow and cold, we waited a long time to be attended to and it’s like they forgot we were there through the meal.. then they expected a 10% service charge. My belief is these charges are earned through outstanding service, not expected for turning up. It’s our own fault for not doing further research before booking when not in the country. This looked like a nice option from the internet but was a really terrible and underwhelming experience for us. A regular meal here during the week may be a better experience but our particular lunch has dampened Christmas Day and cost a fortune. I have never felt the need to review a meal until now, if this gives further context to our experience.
