I knew I would love this restaurant because it is the sister restaurant of Victoria Gastro Pub, which is a long time favorite of mine! I was not disappointed! The staff and food were both excellent! This time around, we had the daikon & carrot miso soup, the honey old bay chicken wings, the kids cheese pizza, and the black & blue steak sandwich. I highly recommend all of these items! The condiments are homemade, and actally made me like both ketchup and ranch (even though I am weird and usually can't stand either). If you like mocktails, I highly recommend the pomegranate MOCKscow mule! It was very ginger forward in the best way. We will definitely be back!
Good selection of beer and unique food options in a very historic and walakble town. The daily specials are unbeatable so if you want to get a pizza go on a Monday for a great deal. Manor Hill has a smoked pizza that is delivered to your table offering a unique, special, and flavorful experience to your table. We did get a burger that was undercooked for one of our guests but they fixed it quickly. I will go back there and would like to see the main location when I am in the area.
6/23/25 - The restaurant is located in a quaint location. The restaurant is a no frills and thrills type of restaurant. The tables, booths, and chairs were all clean. The bathrooms were outstandingly clean. Our waitress was accommodating and friendly. The Tavern Burger was tasty, not out of this world, but definitely decent. It was put together rather well. Roasted Fingerling Potatoes rolled around in duck fat and garlic were good. The Awesome Smash Burger was tasty, too, and was simply decent. It was also well plated, too. Fresh Cut Fries were great.
Came here as a group of 11 including 1 child for lunch. We managed to get a table thankfully. They have pizza which you can switch to vegan cheese which is great. I got the pizza (vegan) with mushrooms, broccoli, onions and peppers, it was amazing! Probably the best vegan pizza I've ever had! The kids pizza was a good size too. Other in the group had burgers and pizzas, all thoroughly enjoyed. One pizza was forgotten, once we brought it to their attention they quickly got it sorted. Great food, atmosphere and service for reasonable prices. Highly recommended.
Such a nice brunch. I had the smashed avocado toast with smoked salmon and my boyfriend had The Sinatra pizza. He also had a beer while I had a cocktail. Smashed avocado toast with smoked salmon. Very nice sandwich. I like that it was on challah bread. A few too many pickled onions for me but they added a nice sweetness to the overall taste. The Sinatra The waitress joked that this pizza would change his life and he agreed! He said it was one of the best pizzas. There was some spice on it, he couldn't pinpoint what it was, that elevated the taste to another level. I don't eat meat but he cut me a small piece without sausage and it was very good! Our drinks were excellent. Service was great, prompt, jovial, and not overbearing. We had a great brunch.
Manor Hill Tavern has a good menu with a variety of flavorful dishes to satisfy almost any palate. I had there burger which was really food. The meat had flavor and the burger was well cooked but still tender. The caramelized onion spread and cheese were a great combination so that no other condiments were needed. The side orders of bacon fries and cucumber salad, made the meal a comfort food dish with a hint of healthy eating. My drink was the prickly pear, a refreshing non-alcoholic drink. And a light orange Creamsicle desert capped a reasonably priced meal. The place has two outdoor venues that were cool and quiet. The service was good and friendly. Dishes that I saw on other tables looked equally good to what I had ordered, so I know I will return.
Delicious oven brick pizza! The pizza and salad were delicious. Very cool place, I would recommend it to anyone:)
The atmosphere of the bar is great. The staff were friendly and thoughtful. The bartender was skilled. I ordered a " Life's a garden" it was a refreshing herbal cocktail that cooled me off immediately. The pizzas were delicious and generously portioned. The Buffalo chicken pizza was light and flavorful. Not greasy or salty like other places.
We had burgers in the past but their super soft buns liquified before we could finish them. We ordered pizzas this time and they were delicious. The 'frank sinatra' had sausage and grilled onions. The crust was aged overnight and was quite tasty. The servers were wonderful. On the next visit we had a pork panini. It was dressed with aioli and arugula and was on a great french bread bun. The burger didn't fall apart the second time, maybe because the diner attacked it with gusto. I had a scrumptious NZ IPA. Great service the 2nd go around too.
Great beer selection and Brick Oven Pizza! Manor Hill Tavern has a fantastic selection of draught beer. I especially appreciated their flight option, which let me sample a variety of their offerings—everything I tried was top-notch. The brick oven pizza was excellent as well—fresh, flavorful, and cooked just right. They also have a beer garden located just across the street, which looked like a great spot to hang out, though I didn’t get a chance to check it out this time. I’ll definitely be back!
2024 UPDATE: We come here often! Celebrate birthdays or seek them out to simply enjoy a delicious meal. It never disappoints! The kids love everything and we always start with bacon fat fries. There is always an amazing selection of beer on tap. The sangria always hits the spot too! The staff is always great! Holy Smoke pizza is one of our go to pizzas! I think at this point, we’ve had just about everything on the menu and it’s all delicious!! Come and enjoy an amazing meal and then walk and shop Old Ellicott City. This is a must eat! The staff was fantastic and every single thing we ate was the best thing of the night. We started with Bacon Fat Fries and ate them so quickly, I missed taking a picture of them! The kids LOVED every bite too. Stop in and and grab a beer and some fries at the very least!!!
Worth the trek up the side street and a perfect stop to take a break from climbing the hill. Food was great. I recommend the salads and soup for a lighter lunch. The house beer was delicious. The IPA was one of the better ones I’ve had recently. Also heard good things about the cocktails. Service was good even though it was busy. I’ll be back for a pizza.
We had such a wonderful dinner here. First of all, the outdoor tables were really enjoyable, which is important because with the threat of Covid, we don’t feel comfortable eating inside quite yet. Next, I was impressed with the variety of inventive dishes on the menu. We decided to have the Maryland State Fair appetizer, which was Old Bay funnel cakes with crab dip, and it was to die for! Then we had pizzas as our entrees, and they were equally delicious. I can’t wait to go back and try the other options! Plus I loved the beer flight of their craft brews that I tried, it’s always nice to have a local brewery that also serves up amazing food.
I recently visited the Manor Hill Tavern Restaurant and loved the overall atmosphere. I tried the smashed burger, and it was both amazing and delicious. The service was excellent, and the overall experience was fantastic. I’ll definitely be coming back soon and highly recommend everyone to visit.
Yummy food, I especially love that they have a mocktail list. Tavern fries are a must have. The pizzas are great. Burgers are delicious The cobbeque salad is large and scrumptious. The only thing is that the chicken in the chicken sandwich was overcooked, keep an eye for that!
This is a great place to eat. I went with my daughter today and we really enjoyed the food. We had the Boardwalk Chicharrones w/ malt aioli for an appetizer and it was absolutely delicious. My daughter decided on chicken tenders and the handcut fries. She said the chicken was very juicy and she liked it a lot. I chose to get the Sage-Berry Breeze and it was great and the toasted sage leaf gave it a unique flavor. I also got the Tavern Burger w/ bacon fat handcut fries for my entrée. The bacon fat fries were amazing by itself, but I poured my garlic aioli on them and it completely put them over the top. The burger was cooked perfectly with Havarti cheese and bacon jam (there was also a scrumptious sweet sauce on the side which I'm guessing was jam as well, that I also put on my burger). The burger and sauce definitely gives you a sweet and savory combination that I craved more of, but I was too full to even attempt to eat more. The staff is friendly and greet you with big smiles. The overall atmosphere is wonderful. Our waitress was Megan and she was kind, knowledgeable, and patient (I'm very picky). We will be coming back to this restaurant in the future 😁
Start off with only bad thing I can say, but it did not reflect my star rating. We had a group of 8 and they would not let us reserve that many people. So I made 2 reservation of 4 at the same time with no problem. When I called a few days before and explained the scenario, which they were only some what accommodating. Funny part was when we arrived were told a 10 top is cash out and they will be sitting us there. Strange how I couldn't get 8 but they had 10. Anyway it all worked out for a friends birthday dinner. The place is old and awesome. Our server was fun and informative. The place was busy, but food came out pretty fast. We order a bunch of apps, drinks and meals. Everything was spot on. It's a pretty unclear on the website, but the beer garden is across the street and down a hill. So there is no way to really visit both. They were running out of many pizza toppings and should been a little easy on our checks because of that. So folks ended up order more expensive dishes after being told twice that they we out of something,. Two of the guys really wanted the Brisket sandwich, but again they were out of it at 7pm. Again I'm not going to let that affect my review. The food that we did get was great and the drinks top notch. Will return for sure!! Maybe a fall afternoon in the beer garden.
My photos look a mess because I was so hungry but honestly the food was great! Got the Short Rib Dip with old bay fries and an Apple cider-y cocktail to go with it. The meat was juicy and filling, had a wonderful cream sauce on the sandwich as well. The fries were hot crispy and seasoned. And the jus was savory, pairing well with the sandwich. The food was served relatively fast and our server was nice. Would definitely come again next time I stop by Old Ellicott city. It would be nice to come on a day that wasn't so cold.
Great family friendly place for weekend brunch! Chicken and waffles were a hit. And don’t sleep on the soy garlic fried cauliflower either. If you’re not feeling breakfast food their pizzas are also excellent. Very baby friendly with sling seats for car seats.
Love their fresh, flavorful food and drinks! Staff is always friendly and helpful. Always ends up busy so best to snag a seat early, especially on the weekends.
The drinks were Excellent, and the poke tuna salad and figgy piggy pizza were delicious.
Food is amazing. This particular place has a very nice set up, it has a restaurant like in the first floor and a bar in the second. Also, if you ate lucky enough and there's a nice weather you can go to their beer garden. We fell in love of this place and definitely we are going to come back. The food is outstanding, well prepared, tons of flavor, etc. We tried the street fries, which are wooow! Super Yummy 😋, we got the Truffle Shuffle pizza and it was amazing, the crust came just right, thin, crunchy, and the Tavern burger, everything well cooked and seasoned. Also, we tried house brewed beers, these are the best. We just loved this place.
We visited the Manor Hill Tavern for a private event and it was wonderful. The tavern has a great atmosphere. From the various rooms and dining areas, to the original stone walls, the place really gives you that historical feel. For lunch, I had the filet. It was excellent. Served with asparagus and roasted onions, it was delicious. Others had crab cakes, Cobbecue salads, and vodka pasta. No one was disappointed. Upon arrival we had appetizers that included roasted garlic hummus, street-style calamari and fig burrata. All available on the menu. I highly recommend the fig burrata. For dessert I had the Pineapple Coconut Dream. The Cherry Chunk Ice Cream is outstanding. Our server was Cameron. She was outstanding. Very professional and attentive. Really on top of everything. A job well done. You should ask for her. Our visit was for a group event and they did an outstanding job. Although we did not go there, there is the beer garden across the street. Looks like it would be a great time nestled near the stream and outdoors. It was my first time here and I will be back. Overall a great experience.
Nice place. Very good beer. Service was excellent. Reasonable prices on food.
Wonderful restaurant in Historical Ellicott City, a gem and best place to be on Friday evening! Servers are great, and the food is so delicious! One of the best burgers I had, topped with a sunny side up fried egg with bacon and smoked cheese. Pizzas are awesome made in a wood fire brick oven! We will definitely be back soon !
Great spot for really good food service, and beer. I would highly recommend this salmon sandwich and the burger with old bay fries were amazing!
Such an amazing eatery! I had the BEST crab cake sandwich of my life. Still dreaming about it! The bacon fat fries came highly recommended by our waiter, and he was right. Greatest flavor ever!! Was only there for a visit, but would love to go back!
Quick service with a great menu and atmosphere for the whole family—with unexpected natural lighting in a “tavern” environment. A step up from your typical family night out, each pizza feeds one person, so everyone can express their own culinary personality! 🍕💃🏻
The food was great. Absolutely recommend their pizza. The Maryland State Fair appetizer was so good! I was pleasantly surprised that they used real crab meat and not imitation crab. Overall, it was a fun experience during happy hour. They were pretty busy, but the wait time for food and drinks was fairly quick.
This place is historic, it has character, and the staff is all so friendly. You can tell they actually like their jobs and take pride in the tavern. I had brunch there this time. Strawberry cream French toast... Mmmmm!
Super cute tavern with a decent size menu. Great Bloody Marys with a lot of frill. The crab dip with mini funnel cakes was yummy and different. Their chicken sandwich and bacon fries are mouth watering! Everything was delicious. Honestly you can't go wrong with Historic Ellicott City.
We held a family event in the upstairs dining room with several out of towners looking for crabcakes. They were not disappointed. In addition to the excellent crabcakes, all of the food was delicious and served hot. The staff was very accommodating to several who had dietary restrictions. Great food, can do attitude, and beautiful decor and ambiance.
Every Tuesday at 5:30pm, a group of runners leaves from here and runs out the Trolley Trail and back to the Tavern. If you're one of them, you get a free beer upon your return. Everyone goes their own pace and it's on the honor system that you did the run. Amy leads the group and is very friendly and welcoming. She remembers our names and our usual beer selection. The atmosphere and food is very good too. Everyone is very nice. I look forward to it whenever I can make it, and it's an encouragement to keep running.
I always recommend this place to friends and family. The food is pub/bar fare with pizzas, salads and sandwiches, the beer and drinks are very good. The atmosphere is casual but great for a date night or even a family dinner. It is also fun to sit at the bar upstairs. I've never had a bad experience with servers or hosts, and I have been there many times over several years (a great sign of good management and consistent quality).
This is a great place! Great service and very friendly. Which is hard to find these days. They make a lot of food in house. The food was delicious. They have very cool decor and aesthetics. Definitely worth a visit. We would love to come back in the future to try more food.
Review from 11/19/23 (S B J O I) Cozy and warm tavern with a cool vibe and nice clean booths in a beautiful town. I ordered the Birds the Word per the recommendations of other reviewers, however, I personally wasn't a big fan of it - the flavor was good, and the portion was huge, but I personally am not that big of a fan of pimento cheese and my order was just a little too salty. However, my friends liked the Pastrami, the Cheesesteak and Tavern Burger. They also highly rated the Street Fries as a 9.5/10, saying that while it was saucy, wasn't soggy at all, but rated the Maryland State Fair appetizer as a little underwhelming, because it just felt like funnel cakes with average crab dip. Altogether, a wonderful place to go with a great ambience in a beautiful town, providing huge portions and classic tavern food.
The food here is consistently great. Everything came out quickly and tasted delicious. We ordered the Bird’s the Word sandwich and the Main Street Margherita pizza, and both were excellent. I also tried the passion fruit margarita, which was only $7 on Thursday. Definitely a great deal if you enjoy margaritas. The host was very friendly and welcoming, which we appreciated. However, I’ve had mixed experiences with the service. This was my second visit, and unfortunately, the service felt rushed again. On a previous visit, I had a small request (tomato on the side for a burger), and the server seemed visibly annoyed. This time, our server brought the check without us asking for it, which made us feel a bit rushed. The food is worth coming back for, but I hope the service experience improves over time.
A fairly good place for a meal and drinks! A 3.5 tbh. The beer flight was enjoyable and had a nice variety. The Guiness had an amazing flavor that I haven't had before. The honey old bay wings were okay. The chicken itself was fried well but the sauce was underwhelming. The old bay and honey flavors were subtle. The pizza was decent. I liked the toppings but the consistency of the dough could be better (I think it could be crispier). The crab cake sandwich is okay. The patty had a generous amount of crab and had a nice flavor. The structural integrity of the sandwich itself is compromising. The patty fell apart as I tried to handle it as a sandwich between two buns. I think getting the entree would be better. The service was pretty good while the place was quite busy. Certainly not a bad spot for a meal!
I ordered the tavern burger without the bun. They forgot my egg and by the time they brought it my food was cold and they had to remake it. It took so long to get our food and longer after they had to remake it. The burger was good once I got it the second time. Old bay fries are delicious. The service was very slow, but the waitress was nice and apologized for the mistake.
Went here for Labor day. Excellent food and service. This is a brew house so I absolutely had the beer. Ended up getting the Manor Lager. Excellent smokey beer. One of my favorites. I ended up having the Bird is the word chicken sandwich and my wife had the Tavern Burger. The food and fries were awesome.
The highlights of this restaurant are definitely the service and atmosphere! The interior is very cozy and has a lot of nice touches to make it feel like a home. Since this is located in Old Ellicott City, it makes for a great date spot; you can walk around the city and grab a meal at this tavern. The beers were quite good. I got the Rumpleweizen, which had nice rum and cream notes paired with a classic caramel beer taste. We also tried the Mild Manor'd Amber, which was your typical, but good, amber ale. I thought the Chicken Sandwich (Bird's the Word) and the Main Street Margherita Pizza were good. Nothing exceptional but still good. The chicken sandwich was light on flavor but has a subtle crunch. The Margherita Pizza was also good; very light on the tomato but the crust was very light, fluffy, and had a nice char. If you really want a good chicken sandwich, check out Hot Lola's in Northern Virginia. We also tried the black bean burger which I can wholeheartedly recommend to AVOID. To be frank, it's taste reminded me of body odor. I'm not sure if they were trying to mix some Hispanic influence into the burger, but regardless it was not good. Overall, for Ellicott City, this place is good. For the most part, the food was decent, but the highlight was definitely the atmosphere and location.
They serve really delicious food! The Maryland State Fair with the funnel cakes and crab dip is a must and what I’m actually looking forward to having when I stop by again. I went there for Cinco de Mayo a year ago and still think about it. I’m hoping to make another trip out for the experience and try anything new they have. I bought an extra meal to take home, which is the only reason why I spent so much. I’ll update my review on my next trip.
It is a charming old tavern worth visiting if you're visiting Old Ellicott City. Two friends and I went for a weekday lunch and split a salad, an appetizer ("Maryland State Fair" - funnel cake & crab dip), and a pizza, and ate to our hearts' content. Salad was amazing and the pizza was delicious. The dip was a little on the salty side (to be expected of a crab dip) but the fried dough to be dipped was a bit dry and underwhelming. I also tried the draft beer flight and it was lovely. Overall, the meal was very pleasing and the service immaculate. We'll be back!
We came to Manor Hill Tavern on a recommendation from a local store owner on Main St and we are glad we did!! We were promptly seated and greeted by the loveliest server. Our food arrived a bit out of order as half the dinner arrived ahead of the other dinners and actually ahead of the appetizers but it really didnt damper our experience. The Tavern Burger was absolutely delicious. I ordered Med Well and it arrived Med Rare but Im not too picky so I went ahead and dove im for a wonderful burger bursting with flavor! The Bacon grease fries were amazing as well. The Chipotle Chicken sandwich was also loved and it was said that the tomato ranch and bbq sauce were incredible. The old bay wings arrived and were crispy and delicious. Next up came the 3 pizzas i cant remember which were ordered but one arrived undercover and when the lid was lifted the smoky display was pretty cool. It added a unique flavor to the pizza as well. My son so ordered the mac n cheese...ohhh myyyy gooodness...definitely do yourself the favor and order this....it's absolutely devine. Overall wonderful experience and the baby hiccups didnt damper our meal at all, we just went with the flow, were happy and will most definitely go back....oh and before i go....their Tequilla Beer was.....YES!!! Just do it if you enjoy a few spirits.
The honey chicken sandwich was delicious with house,- made chips and a glass of beer. Our server was excellent. It was pretty loud but everyone in the place appeared to be happy. I love the old city and glad the tavern retains its quaint charm.
The food was awful. My chicken was dry, the pizza crust was doughy, and even the brownie was warm temperature and dry. Our waitress Cameron was amazing though! She would be the only reason we'd cone back to this place and give it a second chance.
We went to watch the game, which was cool. They had plenty of TV screens. They advertise a happy hour, but it's limited to about 6 things. We got the mussles. They were cold by the time they got to us, but the sauce they were in was absolutely delicious. The service was fine, the waiter was clearly very busy so I don't fault him. Looks like he needed extra help. Overall, nothing special except for that Thai curry sauce the mussles came in.
Went for restaurant week. Bad idea to order what was show cased. We should have stuck with the norm. The appetizer tuna was not edible. The fish was warm which enhanced the fishy taste. My friend and I normally eat seafood and we could not handle the smell. The main entree, we got one of each, the chicken thigh and rockfish. The chicken thigh was one tiny piece! The portion is like for kids. We were just in shock how this very popular spot would showcase such subpar meals for restaurant week. Lesson - just stick to their usuals!!
We were a party of 6 for dinner. The potato skins with bacon were cold and the bacon was overcooked, the soft pretzel was covered with cream cheese, it was horrible. The smash burger was raw on the inside, onions were uncooked, fries were cold. The chicken sandwich sauces did not go together well. The bacon fries were plain fries with overcooked bacon bits thrown on them. The gluten free burger roll crumbled and completely fell apart. The special Cuban sandwich tasted like the desert sand, the person that ordered it, left most on his plate. The mushroom cheese pizza was fair. The restaurant is nice however the menu is extremely limited and the chef needs to learn how to cook. The present chef needs to be let go. Get a new chef and redo the entire menu. We will never eat there again.
We arrived a little before 4 pm on a Saturday. Immediately asked if we had reservations. The restaurant was less than a quarter full. Seated at small table practically on top of other customers. My husband has a food allergy and was told not once, twice three times that he could not have his selection because of the allergy. The waiter finally pointed out what he could have. He ordered a cheddar burger with plain fries. We left less than an hour later and the restaurant was still only a quarter full. Not impressed. Would never return.
