I don't live in Escondido but every time I am up there I have to go to Toms!!! I am a vegetarian and I have to say I was just craving a veggie burger and fries when I was at my boyfriends house and he said I think I know where we can go. Toms it was and I was so excited to eat there! It was MORE than I had expected and I'm very happy for that. The staff is very friendly and the place is always very clean even when they are going crazy with Sunday lunches (*: The prices are really good too!!! I for sure would recommend this place to anyone, a meat eater or not to go there! You will get great service and even greater food!

Went for dining in breakfast with 2 friends, crowded for Sunday. I had scramble eggs and 2 pancakes with ice tea,, my friends opted for ribeye steak and eggs and the other had cheese omelet. Each had coffee. Both had huge portions of hash browns. Delicious 😁!!

Food was excellent, portions were large, good value for your money. Staff checked up on us a few times, they listened to our concerns and made sure we were taken care of. They genuinely care about customers and you can feel the difference in how you are treated here versus other restaurants. I will definitely be coming back. Tom's is where it's at!

Been here many times and have never been disappointed. The food is great and the service is friendly.

Love their grilled chx salad. Also yummy are Coke floats and shakes. Kids usually eat chicken nuggets or burgers from kids menu. Dine in and take out. We usually do drive thru. Toast and waffles are good too.

A basic breakfast establishment that has very fast service, and a diner feel to it with very good prices. The biscuits and gravy 👌. They also serve big breakfast burritos at a great price. If you dine in, you pay at the counter and pick a number located at the table you would like to sit at. You are shortly served by a robot server which you take your food from. A great breakfast joint.

Solid diner style food. Quick service. Very reasonably priced. Good quality for that price and speed on top of it. Is it the best breakfast in town? Hardly. Is it among the best given the value? Definitely, and that is why I keep coming back.

Overall, it was good diner food at an affordable price. We were more than satisfied.

One of Tom's small chain locations. I had the #1 Breakfast combo and it didn't disappoint. Coffee was nice and the staff were tasty. Well, the other way around. 😂 They have a robot that helps deliver your food, which is pretty cool. The place was busy but the tables and bathrooms were clean and accessible, even for the walker my guest was using.

Tom’s is always good food. Always friendly staff. I don’t really like the robot, but I don’t like robots in general. Ha! And the BEST zucchini strips. I go here for those alone sometimes!!

Looking for a traditional american diner to eat, and we found this Tom's not so far from our airbnb. The boys ordered steak meals and were quite happy with their food. I ordered a french toast combo meal but replaced the bacon with the burger patty. It was ok, a little bit more cinnamon flavour to the toast would have been perfect. The chocolate milkshake was ok. Other than that it was a good experience.

Awesome place, great atmosphere, great food. Pastrami sandwiches are great and have the most meat than most places around. Biscuits and gravy are an amazing choice for breakfast. And if Jessie is there he always takes care of his regulars!

Good food, mostly standard American diner fare, at very reasonable prices. On par with Farmer Boys in terms of quality and taste. A little more affordable though. The best part, if you have little kids, is the robot that delivers the food. Our kids absolutely love it!!!

This was my first time here. The service was amazing. The lady repeated my order back to me to ensure it was correct. The portions were amazing. There were lots of hot fresh fries in the bag. She gave me ketchup without me having to ask. Super friendly and it looked liked she loved her job, and it showed.

There's usually a wait time to get you food here, but that's because they take the time to make your order fresh. I always enjoy the club sandwich here and burgers. It's one of the few places that's open late that offers a variety of foods on the menu. The 2 for 10 is always a great deal. You get to pick 2 items from a from a special menu for a total of $10. It's definitely a go-to place for lunch or dinner.

I always order the chili cheese fries with grilled onions and bacon, when I'm up here in Escondido. It's the only restaurant I eat at up here. The cooks always make it great. The people taking my order are always polite and get the order correct. In a world full of inconsistent fast food orders, they are always consistent. I will be leaving a $15 tip next time as a sign of gratitude for them. The pricing here is great too! I always make two meals out of my orders.

Solid diner food, but the kitty robot delivering your food is worth the trip. I had the carna salad, which was plentiful and tasty. My husband had tuna melt and side salad, both good. My daughter had chicken and waffles, which were the standout. Fried chicken was tasty, tender, and crispy. We were with a group, and ordering at the counter is perfect for that. But we simply loved the kitty robot delivering our food!

Fantastic food, service, and prices at this neighborhood diner, with a great menu with lots of up options for breakfast, brunch, lunch, dinner, dessert, and drinks. Classic American sandwiches and burgers are great. They also have an excellent south of the border "Mexican" menu, with huevos ranchers, chorizo, tacos, and burritos. The bread / buns used for burgers and sandwiches is very soft and tastes home made. Very impressed. Their waffles and pancakes are so good. Order up front at cash register and then choose whichever table you want. Outdoor seating available. Very family friendly.

The burgers were good and the fries were on the crispy side which we prefer. The robot that delivered the food to our table was really cool. Haven't experienced that before.

Love the fries with the Old Bay seasoning. They're cooked right. This is the classic independent burger place. In a town where George's exists, this place slays them every day on food quality. Even with the inconsistently indifferent service, the food is far better than others (did I say George's again?). Cheap grub served simply in a classic American fast food edifice. Sometimes it's cool to feel like it's the seventies again. Tim's 23 make it work for me. Maybe it will for you as well.

Had the breakfast #5 biscuits and gravy with 2eggs and bacon or sausage. Gravy was a little bland, but a little salt and pepper helped. Everything else was great. They have a robot that brings out your plates of food to your table. Thought that was cute and awesome!!

I enjoy eating at this restaurant always when I go there the restaurant is always clean, floors are clean and shiny, table tops are clean but most of all women's bathroom is clean. They always have good promotions going on their foods prices. Mon. -Fri. 2- 5pm they have hamburgers for $1.99. Good beef with fresh lettuce and fresh thick slice of tomatoes. Absolutely delicious! Your food is always hot when they bring it to the table and always taste wonderfully delicious. Order French fries you will get a plate full steaming hot. I love visiting here with my family. The food is great, and there is plenty to choose from. Although, sometimes the service is not the best, and it can be hard to find the cashier to order, get drink refills, or any additional help needed. I would recommend visiting.

One of the few places, that offer consistently good food, at a good value. The level of service though does vary, mixing conscientious and friendly to seemingly slightly indifferent employees. It can add to the intrigue, depending on your personality. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner served all open hours. Check them out.

I have tried their food twice. first time I ordered a double cheeseburguer combo, and there wasnt much flavor on the meat. I didnt like it much. their fries are good. 2nd time I ordered a chicken club combo and my chicken breast was hard to chew and lacked good flavor. I ordered some chili cheese fries and are good but veery salty, hope my experience is read by the owner and work on those issues. thanks

Had not been to Tom's in a while. Decided to have breakfast there as my brother was in town. After we ordered our breakfast, we sat at our table and were served by a robotic server. I admit it was different and quite entertaining. Our coffee was filled by a human server. Food was hot and tasty especially the fluffy pancakes. Will return

EDIT (March 13th, 2022): THEY HAVE A ROBOT SERVER NOW!!! Good food no issues there. I only knocked one star off due to the service. It's not bad per say it just feels like whenever I talk to the staff to order they are annoyed with me. Like I totally understand working a job your not a fan of but you gotta be nice and welcoming to customers. Maybe it was just a few bad days for those staff do I'm not mad or anything but it was noticeable. Good food and decent prices though 👌

Best bang for buck diner around. Service is brisk and courteous they even have one of those robot food carriers that bring you your food. My go to breakfast spot.

I love this place but mostly because I can sit and eat and not be bothered the whole time. Every order I've gotten has been missing something or totally wrong. I've been charged extra for replacing the incorrect or forgotten items. Everything inside this place is sticky, the seats the tables every condiment and salt and pepper shaker. The hash browns are always terrible. The coffee is always weak. But, I can order my food and sit quietly reading and not be rushed away or constantly checked on. That's why I always come back. It's comfortable and I enjoy being here.

I love this place, but it isn't perfect. Sometimes it misses the mark. I've gotten the incorrect sides or dishes before and sometimes I really don't mind but if your dining in and you happen to be able to pop over to the register and let them know what happened I've always experienced that they were really quick to fix it. Mistakes happen I'm not going to let that ruin my experience. The food has almost always been top here for a quick family diner. The only time I ever experienced an issue with on mother's Day I ordered a meal with hash browns and they were the absolute worst hashbrowns I've ever had. I can't put my finger on what went wrong with them but they were not great. Besides that though I love the diner, I love the drive-thru it's very convenient. Their breakfast meals and breakfast burritos are out-of-this-world I haven't had an opportunity to try anything else really. My go-to is the chicken and waffles.

The young lady walked around, clearing tables and dishes. we asked her nicely for taking out boxes, and she also gave a harsh attitude, like she was also being bothered or asked to do something out of the ordinary

I stop by periodically for a quick lunch. Usually Chili cheese fries. Tried a hotdog for a change. unfortunately I think it's been a minute or two since someone ordered one. Dry and pruney Weiner. Was a bit overcooked.yucky. Just be patient sometimes order wait is a while,even when you only one in line. But usually you do get what you pay for. This was a one time disappoint. Gonna try another hotdog to see if they can redeem themselves. They do have some great meal deals, worth every penny.

Place is super cute and clean. Food was really really good and served in large portions which was a big plus for my family. My French toast was awesome, very well prepared, delicious. I didn't taste anyone's food but everyone said it was really good. Will definitely be coming back when we're back in town 🙂

I have never had such great service from a burger joint like this. The staff was friendly and genuine. They have an amazing family deal and there's outdoor seating if you want to bring your dogs. I'm from Long Beach and was here with my family on a trip but the next time I come through town, I'll be sure to stop by because of the great experience we had here.

Drive through, stop cutting people off when ordering or assuming you know what they are going to say. Honestly, had i not been ordering for other people, I would have gone elsewhere out of frustration. But the food is fantastic

It was my 1st time ordering at drive thru. I think the lady was in a bad mood and when i got to the window she assumed I spoke Spanish.. I mean I do but you never assume. She was eating ice cream at the window, i could see it even though she closed it on ky face. My son's ordered their food befor and its really good. Let's see today. I haven't ate yet. Just upset with the service driving thru.

Waited 15 mins for a drive thru order, I was the only car there at the moment. I ordered nachos. I thought they came with guacamole and jalapeños like the menu picture. But instead i got cut up Avocado and no jalapeños. Not happy😑

Food is good. Staff consistently get my order wrong. I repeated everything a solid 5-10 times, including what I wanted steak sauce because they forgot it last time. I ordered the ribeye and shrimp dinner. I got no shrimp. Asked for my steak rare, it’s almost well done. I even opened the bag before leaving but I assumed the shrimp was in the box. Never make that mistake coming here. They WILL mess up your order.

Second time coming to this location. I really like the robot they have to deliver your food. It’s very cute and the only place I’ve seen it at. Got the family special of burgers which is at a great price. The burgers are okay, but the fries are yummy. The only big turn off and the thing that grossed me out was that I saw several roaches while waiting to order my food on the counter, which is literally a few feet away from the food. Knowing that I honestly ate disgusted. I honestly don’t think I’ll ever be coming back here ever.

Based on my overall experience at this place I'd rate it 2 1/2 stars. The burgers alone get 5 stars. They came out hot and fresh. I would definitely say that this place has perfected their burgers. Unfortunately the rest of the items I ordered were pretty unappealing. The onion rings were cold to the touch and the fries were barely any warmer.

With all the hype signage advertising the place, I was not very satisfied with their hamburger. It tasted to me more like meatloaf than a hamburger. The fries, though, were pretty good. I think it would help if the hamburger patties were not so thick, so they wouldn't break apart when you take a bite. This was my first time there, so I may come back and try something else. The decor was comfortable and inviting.

Food was decent, but hearing the staff fight over tips the entire time we were there really put a damper on our visit. I had the BLT, and they made the bacon super crisp just as I asked, so that perfect! Unfortunately, my son's chicken tenders were super overcooked and dry, and he didn't take them to them too well. The burger was your typical California type burger, so you can't go wrong with that. They are not stingy with their portions, so you'll get your money's worth. You get your food delivered to your table by a cute cat robot, and I found that very charming. Overall, it's an ok place to eat at if that's what's nearby.

Really great food but the service was less than stellar. Than again we came late around 8:30 p.m.or so and I'm sure the staff were tired but I did expect them to be more alert and attentive then they were. The drive through only had like 1 line. I think our food arrived within 20 minutes or so but it was worth the wait. I would like to go back qgain but I will either come much earlier or call in my order.

The way they handle raw hamburger patty with bare hands , and then just wipe there hands with a wet dirty rag , and continued to prep a cooked hamburger and serve it to people is not safe at all. So if Management ever check there reviews and cares about not getting people dangerously sick then maybe they should make some changes. Don't get me wrong there food taste great but after seeing that I'm going to have to pass . I think the people who prep you cooked food should have clean uncontaminated hands.

Seems to have gone downhill while the prices went up. I ordered the steak and eggs this morning and the steak was tough. When a waitress came by and asked me how my meal was I explained to her how the steaks used to be tender but today it was really tough. She smiled and apologized. I came in with my two sons and the entire meal was darn near $30. I could have had a better experience at Denny's. After placing my order I asked for water glasses. The server put them on the counter, saw I couldn't carry them all because I had other things in my hands but was content to watch me make multiple trips. I'm disappointed because I used to really like Tom's.

The quality of the food has declined and the service is very poor. The ladies that work the drive thru and register are often times moody, rolling their eyes and very confrontational with customers. Definitely no "Happy Meals at Toms".

I usually do not post reviews but I am not sure about trusting employees when order via drive thru, second time I order a 2x8 and only get 1 burger—realizing after getting home. I happened to not trash the receipt.

I was recommended to this place by my friend erick, he told me it was a CHEAP place for a great breakfast, well…Found a fly in my pancakes, they barely gave me any eggs. Like less than 1 egg! Dennys is better. Anywho, the Hispanic lady with the tattoos was very nice :) so that’s why I gave the extra star.

U would think its common sense if someone buys 2 different burritos to mark which is which. Apparently not this place my coworker ended up eating part of my burrito cause marking it is too difficult or these people really don't care about their job. 2nd time I've come here last time was 5 hrs ago where the gave me the wrong salad. Won't be coming here ever again might as well make my own food before I think of coming back especially because its mostly hashbrowns in this burrito

I've been wanting to try Tom's for a while now because I heard good things about the other locations. This location relies on their robotic cat to give good customer service as the rest of the staff is incredibly rude unless you are not white. As a Doordasher, who sees the inside of many different restraunts, this was the rudest I've ever been treated. The food is very good but one lady helping us inside acted like we were beneath her and a waste of her time. Will never try another Tom's again.

I ordered a gyro and was asked if I wanted it on white bread. I was taken aback so much that I said yes with a question mark!!! Isnt pita bread considered white bread? Who does that? Toms in escondido, that's who. Also if it is on the menu, shouldn't you know how to make it? Isn't that why we get fast food? AND!!!!! There was no Tzatziki sauce!!!!!! WHAT????

It was not good the lady that took our order kept asking us what we wanted. With the eggs and we had already told her several times. Then I ordered onion rings with my sandwich she brought out French fries and then is that ok. No I ordered onion rings. Then had to go back up for my drink they never brought out. Terrible service, and food not great. GO someplace else and spend your hard earned money.

Overall not a great place. I asked for three things on my burrito: egg, cheese, sausage. That’s it. And they didn’t put even the slightest bit of sausage in it and was overall meh. And I also got a coke. The coke taste flat and has a disgusting taste like dirt. I don’t think they clean the soda fountains.

Very very rude staff ! I decided to try this out because I always pass it by. I wanted some take out. Their was a middle aged women at the register that didn’t even look up to greet me or anything. I was standing there for about a good 8 minutes until I decided to asked someone to help me . The person I asked had to grabbed someone else and then that person didn’t help me. One of the cooks ask if i had a Doordash. No greeting. how may I help you? or anything. I left. And will not be returning. I see my business and my kind is not welcomed here.

The food is good enough, but just like the other reviews, the staff is indifferent and somewhat rude. I was having my truck worked on around the corner and saw Tom’s had free Wi-Fi. It’s just too bad none of the workers knows the password. Customer service is not a priority here.

I don't leave 1-star reviews. The staff are great and so is the management, the guy with the beard on the grill is sloppy and has messed up my order for the second time. The first time I came the burger was overdone and cold, probably was an extra from a previous order. And this time I waited 30 min and the cook found the receipt on the floor and the food finally came the fries were cold. He also doesn't use gloves which can be a turn off for many. Idk why I keep going back, I see the best in people but I was hoping for a second chance, I'll just go to carl’s Jr for worse quality over these bad experiences.

DO NOT GO HERE. My wife and I came here with a group of people for my daughter's high school graduation thinking it was a nice restraunt. You pay for the food when you order it and then sit down. The food was cold, dry, bland, and hardly edible. The food server was super rude and didn't belong serving food. I wish I didn't have to pay for the meal before the food came, there would be no way in hell I'd ever pay for that garbage. We had a super bad experience.

I am very disappointed with my experience with this restaurant today. We went through the drive through and ordered a 2 for 8$ and a 4 piece chicken strip. Upon arriving home we realized that the chicken strips were completely burnt and had burned through the top of the container. My partner went back to the restaurant and they said that their machine has been burning them. Which means they knew they were burnt and gave them to us anyway. So we switched it out for another 2 for 8$. Then we realize they only gave us 1 burger from the first 2 for 8$ we ordered. They were completely unhelpful on the phone and we won’t be returning.

So gross. The French toast for $12 was NOT EDIBLE. Literally uncooked in the middle and on one side, yet didn’t even offer a refund. I’ll never go there again. NOT CLEAN and way below average food overall. 3 ppl and NO ONE likes their food. Everyone got something different. It was ALL BAD. I don’t think they ever clean their booths.

went in and ordered 1 pastrami sandwich and 2 colossal burgers... the pastrami was burned , dry , looked old and brown and had a bad taste. the sodas were all flat. the chili cheese fries were ok.. but when i asked for onions on top they wanted $1. that was over$60 worth of trash we bought. non of us ate it and its very disappointing. i can bet the staff would not have ate that either. WILL NEVER EVER RETURN TO THIS PLACE! - don't waste your time or $$

The food has definetly gotten way small for the pastrami sandwich because how it is now it definetly is not a famous sandwich. I have come to this location many times through the years and now the quality and quantity of food is VERY BAD. I don't recommend this place anymore and worst part is I was talking to my friend how good and huge the portions are just to be so disappointed. Will no longer be going or recommending this place. Very Sad to loose another great place to eat.

I'm not good at speaking English, so I was a troublesome customer. I realized she was amazed (in BAD meaning) on her face when I ordered. But while I eat it, she asked me to refill my drink several times. I know she is kind. But, but...I wasn't comfortable because I can't forget her facial emotion. I don't want perfect though. Burger and flies are OK. There is tiny tiny bone in the meat. The Cat serving machine work here! You have to be served by the cat. (Revised 08/08/2025)
