Opinions de Durf's Family Restaurant Fairport
Simply great breakfast just the way I remember from when I was a kid. Probably the same decor too. It's like a time machine with great food. Only thing different is the lack cigarette smoke that would have been there in the 80's.
This wonderful family owned place serves up some super delicious meals. So much to choose from, you can’t go wrong! Everyone is friendly and helpful. Want a cozy place to dine and warm your belly? Go here!
The strawberry jam is to die for. The staff is always very nice. When in town for a family get together we always make a breakfast date at Durf's. The staff is always accomodating including coffee while we while we wait for are party to arrive. Love the Rye bread, homemade corn beef hash, and eggs benedict!!!!
Besides the food being great, you can make your own cup of coffee while you wait. The wait staff is excellent. Finally, the crisp they put on their home fries is unmatched.
I have been coming here for breakfast since I was a little girl. I absolutely Love their Texas French toast and sausage links! My absolute Favorite sausage links anywhere! When I was in the hospital having my son, right after he was born I was starving to eat! I made my husband come here and get me the Texas French toast and sausage links! Mmm so yummy!
My family has been coming here for 15 years, best breakfast place in Rochester for food and vibe. If you like family-run places with good coffee (not just coffee-flavored water like at some diners), give this place a try :)
We have been going to Durfs since I was young (I'm 5? now). We have never had an issue with food or service. Ruthie is awesome. Over the years we truly look forward to seeing her whenever we go for breakfast
Home made wheat toast with home made raspberry jam is always a hit. Be sure to ask for some when you visit! Also the seasoned deep fried potatoes. Yum.
Been coming here regularly for decades. ALWAYS see somebody I know. A true American Home Town Diner. Great foods, prices, servers, and outdoorsman decor. Finally brought my 83 yo mother for her first visit. She thoroughly enjoyed the hearty breakfast, the atmosphere, the service, and the unique brand of table-to-table camaraderie. We have another convert. It is a consistently great experience day after day, year after year. The awesomeness that is Durf's cannot be overstated. Every time I go, servers offers to top off my coffee every 3 to 4 minutes. A true bottomless cup bc you'll almost never get to the bottom before they refill. The stuffed animals in the back room always draw the kids' attention. A family with a baby and a six year old were taking pictures with the animals. The white deer is my favorite. Or maybe the black bear. But probably both bc they look so good hanging out together (there might be a metaphor in there somewhere).
This is one of my favourite diners. They make their own bread, jelly and maple syrup. Plus I love their specials. Atmosphere is like your uncle's hunting lodge, a little rough but the food and service is the best.
A Fairport gem - Food is solid, delicious, and homemade. Service can't be beat! There's usually a little bit of a wait on the weekend, 100% worth it! (Or sit at the counter if you're feeling frisky.)
So delicious!! Love it here… staff are super nice and food is hot and tasty
We are open Wednesday thru Sunday. 7 to 2pm
Amazing selection for breakfast, reasonable prices, great service. Tricky to find, tucked behind other businesses, small diner atmosphere. Was with a group for breakfast, booked the back room in advance, served 15 people, individual orders. I understand other times it is very busy.
Discovered Durf's when my twins were toddlers. They 12 now. Even on busy Saturday morning it moves pretty quickly and food is worth the wait. Only ever had one food boo boo that was fixed quick and painless. Relaxed down home feeling. We are fond of the homemade hash and grilled muffins.
This gem, hidden in a back corner of Fairport, has without a doubt the best breakfast, and some of the best lunches available for miles around. The specials are out of this world-good, and are varied from day to day. Waiters and Waitresses and cooks are all very friendly, and the owner is in there every day I have been there, making sure things are done right. The atmosphere is friendly, cozy, and personable. Prices are very good too. I feel like this sounds like a review is written by a paid shill but I swear I'm not. It's just that good that I felt the need to add to it's many good reveiws, my family and I have been going for years and the food never ceases to be delicious. I recommend the Egg's Benedict, homemade raspberry jam, texas style french toast, any of the soups, country friend steak, homemade corn beef hash, and almost anything that ever graces the specials menu.
Durfs... A local family restaurant in business for 45 plus years. It's a hidden gem with the best home style food in town. Everything is delicious! The ambiance is " hunting lodge ". Mounted fish, deer, bear and the occasional non tipper. Love the place!
I wish I could give them 10 stars. When I tell you I felt like family there, I mean it. They were so friendly nice and kind to my daughter. Food was amazing. Prices amazing Experience amazing. 10/10
This is the quintessential Fairport diner. Tucked away in the back parking lot of the street, the food is typical and tasty for a greasy spoon joint. The decor is classic mid - 80's basic, with some taxidermy animals thrown in for ambiance. The staff is friendly and kids tend to love it. Or kids certainly do.
Great place. Awesome food and great atmosphere. My mom has been going here since she was little and this is a go to for whenever we're in town.
Good home cooking. The homemade bread and jam must be tried. No pretentions here, just good food and friendly service. A busy place.
Second time here as our friends love going here. Cute small restaurant with great breakfast offerings. Plus you can drink coffee while you wait for a table. Fills up fast!
Nice family place. Will be going again.
So this is where you go if Rikis is not open, although the breakfast may be just a little bit better. The seatings a little too open and the atmosphere could use an update bit if you're looking for a great breakfast, Durfs doesn't disappoint.
I take all my out of town guests to Durf's; best food and best service. I had to give the atmosphere a 4; well, come on; you understand. But that's what makes it Durfier...
Best diner around! Great food. Homey atmosphere. Wonderful staff!!
Funky little eatery. Met friends for breakfast and was pleasantly surprised. A little pricey but delicious
Great place for breakfast. Home made corned beef hash is great. Home made whole wheat bread is great. Very casual atmosphere, very friendly and helpful staff.
Edit 9/2025 Been coming to Durf's for... I want to say 3ish years and it's always been such a friendly place and it still is. Stopped in by myself this morning for breakfast and I had noticed last time we came that they had taken their menu down off their Facebook page which I was surprised at but then I saw the increase in prices and figured maybe they were just updating it. So I was a little surprised to see the prices increase again today. I understand things haven't been the best and food costs aren't what they once were then I think the prices on the menu have gone up at least 50% since we first started coming here.. They may be pretty close to average for other places these days it's not outrageously expensive but It is definitely more expensive than it was. We go out for breakfast about once a month and we generally split ourselves amongst two or three places. One thing we often get is French toast, eggs and meat. So two of the places we go charge $10 for three pieces of French toast three eggs and a side of meat. I was disappointed that this morning Durf's had raised their prices to now charg the same amount for two pieces of French toast two eggs and a side of meat. Times change and prices go up and that can be disappointing and frustrating but I will definitely say the Durf's still has a very friendly and welcoming environment. ................... Fantastic lowkey breakfast and lunch location or that has great weekly specials! The home fries are kind of weak You either can get pre-made fried potatoes or skillet grilled which neither one are fantastic but everything else has been spot on! They generally do a great job of getting people in and out and are very quick The food is great and it's affordable 8 out of 10! My only real gripe is that I wish they'd put a lock on the men's room door lol. Update 10/13 Stopped in for breakfast again and everything was so good ! Cinnamon swirl french toast were so good! The bacon was a bit overdone and I wish they had better home fries but they are SO welcoming and affordable end every thing else really is awesome. The fried home fries are pretty standard but better than nothing!
This place is a classic and a must visit. Don't sleep on the grilled muffins!
This is simply THE BEST breakfast in the village! A+++ every time!!! Thank you!!!!
Great America style diner, with delicious comfort food.
There Honemade raspberry jam is absolutely the best around. Service is great, everyone is friendly..
Good food in a family atmosphere. Not fancy at all, great place to scarf pancakes, bacon and eggs. We'll be back
Love this place so much. Nice servers. The breakfast burrito is so good. The seasoned deep fried home fries are a must. Only problem is they run out of the homemade toast! Make sure to get the homemade jam!
I absolutely love coming here. It’s a very family oriented facility! I love the decor, I love how clean the facility is! The waitress here all deserve a raise! They work together and are always on top of refills, and clearing off table as needed. There prices are way more than fair! There cook is amazing, the food is always tasty. I come 2-3 times per week some times even more! We love there steak and egg breakfast $6.99 fill up and go! The $1.60 coffee is to dye for! I can not believe this place doesn’t have more than one location yet! I absolutely love everything about durfs , you can tell they care about there customers!
Honestly what can i say ... its a classic! Good food better banter.
Great breakfast for our family of 6. Staff was great, kidding and teasing w us. $ were very fair, and food was delicious.
Just tried Durf's for the first time. Perfect diner experience. Love the coffee bar while you wait for a table; every diner should do the same. Food was great. I'm not a big breakfast food person so I appreciate that you can get lunch menu items at any time. My opinion of a diner always hinges on whether they keep the coffee flowing, and they definitely nailed it on that.
Durfs is one of Fairport's staples. The food and prices are reasonable, the service is great. Just be prepared to wait 😉 but it is worth it!!
Went to this hometown diner for the first time and loved the casual atmosphere and service. I had a taco salad which was very good, but my friends had breakfast and it looked and tasted great (according to them). Very cute place. Love the help yourself to coffee idea!
Best breakfast we loved the homemade raspberry muffin and waffles. We will be back
Durf's is a hometown diner. I love it there, very friendly staff. But its the food. Their homemade hash is the best I have ever had. The sausage biscuits and gravy is just like my grandma's. And finally always get the homemade jam for you toast... you will not regret it. Its homemade goodness.
Walked in for my first ever visit at 930am 5/7/23. Every seat was filled at tables, so the place is busy! I was offered a seat at counter and my coffee was in a cup in under one minute. My order was taken quickly behind the coffee ☕️ Order was plated 🍽 in under five minutes and it was delicious. Looking to be a repeat customer.
Diner food done spectacularly. Hollandaise sauce is the best I've ever had, and home fries are fried crispy and perfectly seasoned. Staff are friendly and helpful. Make sure to try the homemade raspberry jam while you're there.
Picked up some food for a picnic with my husband, the food was quite good, thanks, we'll be back again.
Stopped in for lunch on a Sunday around noon and had to wait nearly an hour. This place is popular! It was our first time here and everyone waiting was patient and nice so we knew it would be worth the wait. Once seated we ordered right away but it still took a while for the food to come. Luckily the activity sheets they gave the kids kept them busy and their minds off of their growling stomachs. We devoured the food as soon as it was set down. Sorry no pictures 😅 blueberry pancakes and a whammy for the kids, corned beef hash for us. The raspberry jam was a lovely addition. Overall, food was great, staff was pleasant and warm, place was buzzing, but be prepared to wait. So bring snacks for the kids...
A classic American local diner with excellent food and reasonable prices. Could definitely use a face-lift, but we love it anyway.
Been going here for years. Then with the small world it really is I became friends with the owner. Best corn beef hash I have ever had. It never disappoints. Keep up the great Work Andy and Family
This was our first time here. The staff were quick to seat us and very friendly. The food was great! Best clam chowder I have ever had. We like finding small mom and pop places to eat. This is one we will definitely come back. Also the price was really good.
Had a really stellar experience today at Durfs. We had a large group including a youth sports team to boot and when I called ahead they said they would be ready.. Indeed they were! The service was excellent and the food was tasty with fair prices. They were so kind to our kids and everyone has a blast. Fun specials board with poutine hash browns! Will be back
Try to get here at least once a month but certainly preferably more often. We bring our out of town family members here and they all request repeat visits when they are back in town. The staff and food are both fantastic and while the place hasn’t seen an update in some years I’m not there for that but rather the fantastic food and fantastic service. They treat their customers right and that’s all that matters to me and my family.
Best breakfast I've had in a long time. Everything sounded so good that we upgraded and combined two of their specials. It was so worth it!
This is a delightful and quaint little dinner. Thanks to Google maps I found this little gem (it’s not visible from the road) when I was looking for some good homemade food with a hometown vibe. It’s the kind of place locals go to eat. The staff is welcoming and very friendly. Service was prompt even though they were busy. The food tastes like mom made it! No shortcuts or premade food tastes from a restaurant supply store. And the portions are generous. I will absolutely return here the next time I’m in town.
Home away from home. Good food and reasonable cost. Nice staff Even locally sourced jams n pepper Nelly
The home fries are crispy on the outside fluffy on the inside. Exquisite. Scrambled eggs are somehow next level. I don’t know what they do- maybe it’s the grill? Creamy and tasty. I asked for feta, spinach and tomatoes in my scrambled eggs, and it was bright and perfectly done. Bacon is wavy and crispy. Durf’s is affordable! Our bill for a family of 5 is $50-60 WITH extras! (Elsewhere it's $80). Steve’s is more expensive, not as good, and there’s always a wait. We just love Durf’s. Sometimes we forget about it, go back, and ALWAYS say this is the best breakfast in town. Staff is friendly too 😊
Family run diner. Home made jams to place on giant toast or grilled muffins. Staff are so welcoming and kind! Merry xmas.
Food was so cheap and so delicious. I love comeing here when ever i have a chance, the homemade whole wheat toast and jam are to to die for. Had to buy a tub of jam for my morning toast. Great place for comfort breakfast food and feel like a family member
Real maple syrup, perfect home fries, eggs, sausage, bacon, waffle all exactly what they should be. Humble decor but clean (including restrooms. Friendly service. We’ll be back!
I give this restaurant 10 stars! ⭐We stumbled across this place for brunch, and it's absolutely the best brunch place in Rochester! Fresh ingredients, superbly prepared, I even wanted to ask the chef how they made it! It's especially kid-friendly, and they even gave the kids a Halloween candy bag. It was a perfect experience that made our day perfect! We'll definitely be back!
We came in close to 2 PM, and the owner still warmly welcomed us to dine in — really appreciated that! The service was friendly, and the atmosphere was lovely. I especially loved their tablecloths and decorations — such a nice touch. So happy to have found this wonderful restaurant!
I've been to this Place Twice with my father twice I Have enjoyed all the food the atmosphere was Amazing the service was Pretty good but it wasn't the best I will definitely would love to come back!
This establishment has a lot to brag about. Mostly, AWESOME food. Durfs has been family owned for most to all of my life. The food is PHENOMENAL. A true family owned diner. Better food nowhere. Their homemade everything is fantastic. They are famous for their hot sauce, chili, homemade cornedbeef hash (YUM!), homemade breads, homemade jam (triple YUM!), and all their homemade like meals! Their specials board should never be missed! Sit back and savor every forkful!
My partner and I came here on a whim while we were driving through the area. That was one of the best decisions we've ever made, what an absolute treat this place was! My partner had the AM Landfill and I had the chicken fried steak, and without a doubt, both were beyond any expectations we could have ever had. Mine was perfectly crunchy without a touch of soggy moisture, paired with comfortingly warm sausage gravy, eggs over easy and choice of potatoes cooked to an absolute perfection and made with love, skill, and care. A side of homemade wheat bread with homemade raspberry jam was as fantastic as dessert. We left absolutely stuffed with one of the best breakfasts we've ever had. Thank you, every single one of you, for this experience! Editing to add, we'll be coming back too this town just for this place for the rest of our days. We currently live about 40 minutes away and this is beyond worth that trip.
Wow! The food was DELICIOUS! The restaurant is a hidden gem. Bigger than it looks from the outside. The service was great. I love family owned restaurants because you can really feel the heart of the place. The staff are full of love and enjoy what they do. They’re good people. Highly recommend.
A classic, amazing food, old fashioned diner... Frickin love this place. We happened to find this place yesterday and loved it so much we came back again today. The waffle special with eggs, bacon and sausage; the crunch omelette; and classic pancake stack plates were all perfectly on point. There's something outstanding about the sausage and their syrup. The baked oatmeal; and the lemon blueberry pancakes (which sell out early) were phenomenal. I mean, seriously. The staff were all great. They'll give you awesome ideas if you're not sure what to order. I'm so sad this place isn't close to home. If we ever make our way back this way, we'll 💯 come back.
Durf's Family Restaurant has great food and good service. Some people complain about dirtiness, but even if they are dirty, they're clean where it counts: the kitchen is always very clean and you can see the inside when you first walk in the door if you're skeptical. The tables and chairs are clean, too. Their timing is decent; it doesn't take you very long to get your meal. They serve breakfast and lunch. If you are going to Durf's, I would recommend asking for a toasted blueberry muffin. They are very delicious and Durf's is the only restaurant I've seen who does this.
Food is great and staff is always friendly. If you haven't tried Durf's I recommend you stop in for breakfast or lunch. Plenty of parking. Lots of specials. Reasonable prices.
Great place for breakfast after an early morning hockey game. The staff was friendly and hustled to bring our meals out quickly. We will be back the next time we play at Rochester Ice Center.
An average to good meal served fast for an affordable price. Tucked away in Fairport this family-owned restaurant is a great place for breakfast and brunch. Haven't tried the dinner. The weekend specials are good! I had the special blackberry sauce pancakes.
Food was good, borderline great. Service was better than average. It's a little difficult to find because it's in a building shared with another business tucked in behind a gas station. ADVICE - Advertise your location a little more aggressively
We had breakfast. Pancakes are good. The omelet was good. Some of the best french fries I've had. Staff was great. The reason for not a 5 star is the place needs to be updated... we were surrounded by fruit flies and not the cleanest place I've been in. It's a local diner with good food.
A very no frills diner with some nice homemade options on the menu. We tried the homemade corned beef hash and it was better than the usual canned stuff most places have. We didn’t try the homemade jam but it was on the menu for only 50 cents. Worth a stop if you want a traditional diner breakfast.
I would say this is a hidden gem, but lately it's hard to get a table on the weekend. Expect a short wait though as the staff is top notch and will get you seated and fed in no time flat. I have to tell you up front this is the quintessential "greasy spoon" don't expect 5 star dining, this place is all heart! There may be a spot or two on the paper menu and some to the carpets and tables have been lovingly patched together with tape, but that takes NOTHING away from the cleanliness or the quality of the food. The most amazing bread around! Defnitely recommend.
The animals on the wall need to go. But the food is great here
After reading the reviews and trying to find unique places to eat I decided I would try this out. Nice small town diner where lots of regulars and a somewhat family style atmosphere where the waitresses know most of the patrons. Is seat tourself, coffee mugs on the way in to grab your own cup of coffee. Sat at the counter and was promptly greeted with the silverware and asked what I wanted to drink since did not know about the grab your own cup thing She quickly returned and I ordered their waffle special - Waffle, two eggs, choice of meat. Can't beat the price for this and it was all properly prepared with a fluffy waffle, homemade maple syrup, two over medium eggs and two sausage links. Food came out in less than 5 minutes and my coffee cup was never empty. Would come here again and would recommend to anyone looking for a quick and quaint diner meal.
Great local spot. Fish and chips were awesome. Steak sandwich was fairly plain, just slightly over cooked meat on dry bread. The breakfast menu looked amazing, looking forward to trying their other stuff.
Doesn't get more classic greasy spoon diner than this. Hunting and fishing trophies, Plastic tablecloths, good coffee, and good breakfast for $9-$13 dollars. 1995 called and wants their prices back. french toast was rich and custardy and chicken fried steak was crispy and delicious. Homemade hash was pretty good too. Friendly staff. Definitely a local hotspot for good old fashioned breakfast.
I ordered from here for the first breakfast and the food was delicious. They just get really busy it seems and the place gets packed. I ordered to go and went to pick up my order I gave the lady my card and she gave me my receipt and didn't say thank you have a nice day or anything like that. That comes off rude and not a good customer service.
We had a really nice lunch here. The avocado toast was delicious, but the home fries could have been crunchier. My husband enjoyed his eggs benedict, but said the Hollandaise was a little salty. The kids devoured the apple caramel french toast! The atmosphere could use an update though. It was a little dark and dingy. And the supplies were stored under a table that was behind our table. My husband said the men's room was dirty. The women's room could definitely use some TLC. And without Google I don't know if we would have found it. Despite this it's clear they have loyal customers and it was pretty busy for a late lunch time. I will probably go back. The other specials sounded so yummy!
Nothing special, really other than it's been there forever, and the interior showes it. You would think, oh, it's in Fairport, but...... that's probably the nicest thing about it. Parking is ample, and you won't wait long for a table, and the food is pretty standard diner food, especially the coffee or what passes as coffee. Sorry folks, nothing stands out as awesome here.
Food was great...there is a waitress who thinks she is a stand up comedian...very brash and rude...at first it was a little funny but turned annoying pretty quick...home made bread with raspberry jam was exceptional...probably won't return
Great food and good coffee, but the service has been quite poor recently. We've been coming to Durf's for many times a year for a few years and the food has always been good, and historically the service as well. The last 4 or 5 times we've been (late 2022 to early 2023), we've struggled to get service. At our last meal, we had our drink order taken (nothing difficult, just coffee and cranberry juice) and we were propmptly forgotten about, no drinks came. We gave up 15 minutes later and flagged down the main hostess, who then retook our drink order, and our food order. The food and drink then arrived promptly, with it's standard high quality. Unfortunately, our waitress never returned to check if we needed refills on our drinks (which we needed), if our meal was good (it was), or to bring our check (we again gave in and got it from the hostess at the register). We were seated prominently in the front dining area, and it wasn't busy (2 tables and the counter were empty the entire time we were there, about an hour). I know staffing for restaurants has been challenging since the pandemic, but they didn't appear to be understaffed. There were at least 3 waitstaff present beyond the hostess, but spent most of their time in the kitchen area instead assisting patrons. Unfortunately this, and similar service issues have been our experience the last several visits. I'm not sure if it's a problem with organization and lack of a 'section' system like most restaurants have, but we won't we returning again for some time. Maybe we'll try again next year to see if the service has improved.
Came in for breakfast and was told it would be a 10 minute wait. Waited 25 minutes to only have 4 walk-ins be seated before us. Ended up leaving because staff was rude when asked what was going on
