Ordered a dozen oysters on the half shell. $14 on special. Split the Mufaletta with fried okra. Our waitress was attentive and friendly! Food was really good! I'll be back!
I have been coming here for years and the food is always fresh and yummy! We had a few dozen of the raw oysters, they were perfect, especially because they are running $14 a dozen football special. They were a pretty busy yesterday, but they made sure to take care of our party as usual! Thank you all!! We will be back
We had an amazing dining experience at The Black Pearl in Galveston! The Oysters Rockefeller were absolutely outstanding — perfectly baked, rich, and flavorful, easily some of the best we’ve ever had. What truly made our visit special, though, was our waitress, Barbie. Her kindness, attention to detail, and genuine heart for service made our visit memorable. She went above and beyond to make sure everything was perfect, and her warm personality added such a welcoming touch to our meal. If you’re visiting Galveston, do yourself a favor and stop by The Black Pearl — and if you’re lucky enough to have Barbie as your server, you’re in for an exceptional experience!
We arrived at The Black Pearl just after 11:00 on a Saturday, wanting to beat the lunch rush. It's just as colorful and vibrant as we remembered, although the portions are BIGGER than we remembered. A table was served ahead of us, and I would have thought it was food for 6 people if there hadn't been only two at the table. I mean GIANT portions - shrimp and oysters piles so high in a poorboy that you couldn't see the bread! We decided to share a 'cup' of red beans and rice with sausage and a muffuletta with onion rings, and it was enough food for 4 people. The cup isn't a cup at all - it's a bona fide bowl. And the flavor of those red beans and rice is outta this world - the broth is very rich, with a deep, smoky taste. The muffuletta was packed with meat and almost more cheese than we could eat; a single one of the three segments was very filling. The olive salad on the muffuletta is very good, although we would have liked a bit more, so next time, we'll ask for some on the side. The onion rings were piping hot, sweet and tender on the inside and very crunchy on the outside, just as they should be. The ice-cold locally-brewed draft beer went down well with this meal. We had enough left over for an entire additional meal. I can highly recommend this place and we'll be back the next time we're in Galveston. Oh, and the service was friendly, too.
Usually go for seafood when on the island. Came here at about 4pm and wanted a seafood platter but learned that platters are only on the dinner menu, so we came back later for dinner. Got the fried seafood platter with fries and it also came with a dinner salad, which was nice. Seafood breading was right amount of crispiness and seafood tasted great. Boudin balls had a good level of spice too. Friendly staff and good service; casual, pleasant atmosphere, and has a bar.
Small restaurant in Galveston near the Strand. They have a limited menu and provide huge portions. We started with the Calamari. It was a large portion for an appetizer, so we had plenty to bring home. They were very good and the marinara sauce was awesome. I had the Softshell Crab Po-boy with onion rings. It was fantastic. They have a full bar with specialty drinks available.
This restaurant review will be a little different. The Black Pearl Oyster Bar is a local favorite known for its fresh Gulf seafood, generous portions, and inviting atmosphere. Here is where I usually write my review. But - I believe this is truly a case of "A picture is worth a thousand words" I had a Shrimp Po-Boy with fried okra. My buddy had a CUP of red beans & rice. Here are those pictures. The meal tasted as good as it looks.
Nice, slightly smallish restaurant that sells decent food with huge portions at reasonable prices. Wait staff was attentive and courteous. Definitely makes the dining experience a pleasant experience. We ordered the raw oysters, calamari, gumbo, salmon burger, buddy burger, and the bread pudding. The oysters were a mix of big and small ones but was extremely fresh. The calamari was delicious and fried to perfection and it came with a bowl of marinara sauce. The gumbo was also delicious and good enough to share with 4 people. The burgers were just OK. Nothing really special about them. But the fries were really good! Ask for them extra crispy. The bread pudding was huge and can be shared. It was also very good.
Hands down amazing!! No wait for a party of 4! Black pearl salad with grilled chicken amazing!!! We tried so many foods!! Being a food critic is so much fun!! This bar had great service and amazing food! We did not try the oysters but we seen them at a near by table & they looked delicious!!
Great food, great service just a little loud, but it is also a bar. This is our second or third time to visit the black pearl. The food is very consistent and servings huge. Our service really was near perfect. We went at 3:30pm so when I ordered the daily special the waiter was new so they had to apologize that no longer available she was great, as if I had stopped and read the sign the lunch special ended at 2pm.. my wife got the oysters and the soft shell crab po boy. And I had the shrimp po boy. They were perfect... thanks for a great late lunch
The place was not busy for lunch. The raw oysters were fresh, the shrimp po boy with the fried okra was amazing. The gator bites were good, some were chewy but overall not bad. The seafood gumbo needed a little more seasoning but it was filling. Our server was very attentive and our needs were met at our table without being asked. It was very filling. Our family of 4 needed to take a walk on strand to digest our meal.
A friend and I went to grab some lunch here after being at the beach for 3 hours. I will have to say it was not disappointing at all. The food and service was amazing. When the food came out the serving sizes were huge. My favorite were the boudin ball and the fried mushrooms. But everything was delicious!!!
Quaint little place downtown. Service was amazing by Maggie. Oyster's were very tasty. Gumbo was good. Will definitely be back next time are in town.

Oscar's service is outstanding. Atmosphere inviting and the food scrumptious. From Boudinin Balls to Oysters and Gumbo, it's always a great southern favorite when we stop in Galveston.

We picked this place for fried oysters and okra, something you can’t get in Salt Lake City. Absolutely the best! The oyster po’boy had at least a dozen delicious, perfectly fried oysters and the …
The food is generally good, it is in a central location, clean bathrooms. The fried dishes are well cooked and crispy, the seafood is fresh, the only thing that could be improved is the gumbo.
The service is good here, the bartender is good. She understands 'filthy' gin martinis. I wish the oysters were better. They are small and the shells were not cleaned properly. They tasted fine but Blsck Pearl needs a better supplier. There has got to be a better source in Galveston. We were overall happy with our visit.
It’s been awhile since we’ve been here, we were the first customers for the day at 11am. The food is tasty and homemade. I remembered the onion rings being a little tastier but overall still a good meal. The service was acceptable but I had to keep asking for things ie napkins, condiments. They have happy hour on Sundays but just the oysters, dozen for $20. They also have weekly specials Monday-Friday.
Our server was great, very attentive, and kept our water cups full and we had no issues with anything. The seafood gumbo had a good amount of shrimp, oysters & sausage in it and the fresh crab meat on top was amazing. But I felt like the actual gumbo lacked some flavor or seasoning or something; it was a little blah in my personalopinion. The red beans and rice was amazing! It had a rich smokey flavor that was so good. We really wanted to try hot Oysters Three Ways but was told they only serve that at dinner (after 5pm), so that was a little disappointing and wish that was mentioned on the menus, as we would have come for dinner instead.
Edit: their online prices do not reflect actual prices. Maybe an oversight, but it needs to be corrected. Ordered raw oysters, fried mushrooms, fries, gator bites, and a cup of red beans and rice. The oysters were good. The mushrooms were big and a big portion. They were good but needed a bit of seasoning. The fries were cooked well and really liked them. The gator bites were very tender and, again, big portion. The red beans and rice were very good. I would have preferred a little kick to them. The place was clean, the service was great and friendly. Jr was very attentive and ready to answer any questions. I would definitely come back.

We came here during our stay on the island. Everywhere was a long wait because it was a holiday weekend. We stumbled upon this place with the least amount of wait. Service was friendly and the food didn't take too long to come out. We decided to order a few items to share. I thought the food was subpar and could have been better. - Seafood gumbo: ordered the bowl versus the cup since it was better for a group. My favorite item out of rhe bunch. Good flavors overall. - Crab cakes: came with 2 crab cakes, good for sharing and it was packed with crab meat. - 4 dozen oysters: the size of the oysters were disappointing, it was smaller than expected. - Cajun shrimp: got the 1lb shrimp. It was served over ice so it was cold but not a big problem. It goes better with a sauce. I didn't feel like it had a lot of flavor. - Fried seafood platter: felt there was too much batter and not enough seasoning. Definitely needed to dip in a sauce for more flavor.
I hate leaving not so great reviews. We came here hoping to get some delicious oysters. We thought they were charbroiled, but they were not! Opened the box to chewy, almost raw, big chunks of chopped spinach, couldn’t even swallow wet oysters. Called and got a refund. Atleast management was understanding.
Food was good once we received it. Pretty sure we were forgotten since we waited almost an hour and everyone around us was served quickly. Too bad. Not sure I'm interested in a second chance.

Not our first time here so we were excited to get another great meal. This time it was truly disappointing. We ordered two steaks that were very tough and over cooked. The baked potatoes were several days old and brown on the inside. I ordered the stuffed flounder and what an epic fail. The entire meal took over an hour to arrive and the fish was over cooked and burned. The stuffing was flavorless as well and very dry. On the bright side the raw oysters were decent and the boudin ball’s were great. Thank goodness for their French bread so i had something to eat. When we told the waitress the food wasn’t good she smiled and said sorry. A manager never came by and asked about it so that’s why I’m here, maybe they’ll get the hint. I didn’t want a free meal but I paid for something i couldn’t even eat.
Oysters on happy hour are 12 for 20$ and not 14$ as I have seen advertised in so many places. They were definitly not fresh and had a stinch on them. We sent it back and werent charged. Service was pretty decent which is the only good thing I have to say about this place.
Walked in and greeted by smiling hostess. No table but seats at bar. Bartender literally threw menus at us. Tried to ask about happy hour, looked at her watch and walked away. So did we. Would not …
We drove more than an hour after hearing good things about this place, and it was extremely disappointing. Ordered a dozen baked oysters for $30 and they were spoiled. The shells were large, but the oysters inside were tiny—about the size of my thumb nail—and tasted sour, clearly not fresh or safe to eat. The seafood in the gumbo also had the same sour, spoiled taste. When we brought this to the server’s attention, she took the oysters back and said they threw it away, but didn't take the gumbo. The only solution offered was a dessert to go, which is not acceptable when the issue is food safety. We paid and left without finishing the food. Very disappointed and do not recommend this restaurant.
Went there to have a good dinner and was completely disappointed. Everything looked good but tasted like it was heated up in the over, no crunch to anything. Boudin balls were mushy, the soft crab was soggy and so was the fried shrimp. Will not go back nor recommend. Explains why it was so empty during our visit. Waitress was nice and attentive.
