Oc & Lau is a popular Vietnamese seafood restaurant known for its fresh seafood and flavorful dishes. Customers rave about the razor clams, scallops, crab with garlic noodles, and snails. Expect a wait, but many find it worthwhile due to the food quality and service.
Tip: Be prepared for a wait, especially during peak hours. Consider going early or during happy hour for drink specials. An 18% gratuity may be added to large parties.
Hands down the best spot to eat in Little Saigon. I love the clams and the way they’re seasoned. The orange juice with coconut bits tastes very fresh. The dishes are well presented and I especially like the escargot with coconut broth. The atmosphere is very lively and modern. Definitely worth the price and I highly recommend eating here!
They are always crowded--and for good reason! They serve excellent food. You can sign up on the waitlist on Yelp in advance if you are close enough to the restaurant. Parking might be a struggle because the restaurant is so popular. In fact, I'm sure it affects all the businesses in the rest of the strip.
The food is totally worth my waiting time ~ an hour. You can join the queue on Yelp App in advance so you don’t have to wait for to long. However, don’t forget that you have to check in with the host when you’re around 5th to 7th in line. I didn’t know last time so they took me off from the line so I have to join back in 🥹 But the food was delicious. It tastes exactly what I had in Vietnam. The service was great. The servers are friendly, helpful, quick, and dedicated. I would definitely come back next time to try more and more items when I have a chance to go back to Cali again.
This is my first time here in over 5 years, and I forgot how amazing this restaurant is. I love ocean snails and seafood and my gosh it’s just super fresh, tasty, and satisfying dining here. I came with a few coworkers and we shared everything from razor clams, snails, prawns, oysters, scallops, whole crab, crab fried rice, filet mignon egg noodles, squid, French fries, whole fried snapper - yeah, we got A LOT and tried everything a variety of things. The service was great and quick. Most of the customers here are Vietnamese, which is very telling of what a great Vietnamese restaurant this place is. I love how bright and clean the interior is and a great place for a big group to dine here. I need to bring my parents here next!
If you’re craving authentic Vietnamese seafood, Oc & Lau is a must-visit. I had been waiting a long time to find a place in the U.S. that truly captures the flavor and vibe of Vietnamese seafood dishes, and this spot absolutely delivered. We came as a group of three for dinner, and as expected, the wait was quite long. People were standing outside the restaurant waiting to be called, which in my opinion is always a good sign. Once seated, the staff was attentive and responsive, making the experience enjoyable despite the initial wait. Now on to the food. The seafood is fresh, and the flavors are incredibly close to what I remember having in Vietnam. That alone impressed me, but what sealed the deal was how well everything sat after the meal. I usually worry about food safety with street-style seafood, especially when traveling, but I had no stomach issues here, which speaks to the quality and care in preparation. The dipping sauces are spot-on and completely authentic, elevating every dish. I also highly recommend the passion fruit drink. It’s refreshing and complements the seafood perfectly. The pricing is very reasonable considering the quality, portion size, and overall experience. If you’re looking to explore some of Vietnam’s best and most unique dishes, this restaurant is the real deal. I’ll definitely be coming back every time I visit California. Oc & Lau is now officially on my must-eat list.
This is one of the better Vietnamese seafood restaurants. Clams w basil were very flavorful, the prawns w glass noodles was my favorite. We also ordered half dozen raw oysters. Those 6 tiny oysters were not worth 20 bucks phffft. The scallops were good. Service was lacking because the place was packed and they do not have enough employees.
Solid Vietnamese seafood restaurant. It was so popular that we were there a weekend around 9pm still waited half hour to get seated and it was worth it. Service was fast and friendly. The razor calms and the snails were really fresh and full of south East Asian style seasoning. The fried quails were really amazing, they were perfectly seasoned and cooked to perfection. They also offer free desserts, so remember to save a bit room for it.
This place lived up to it's seafood hype. Lots of variety and options for seafood with so many different types and styles you can try of seafood. We really liked the lobster noodles, the king scallops, garlic butter queen clams and the steam clam soup. The coconut snails was a bit cumbersome and small to eat with some awkward taste. The base broth was fine but the snail was ok. The papaya salad was very refreshing and the hotpot was the filet mignon beef, shrimp and squid option which was also great with a savory broth. The atmosphere was lively and loud but still clear enough to hear each other talk. The staff was fairly attentive. Highly recommend reservations as both places are packed at most hours.
First time here, and it completely changed my impression of Vietnamese food. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and well-prepared. The green mango salad was refreshing, the black pepper snails were rich and aromatic, and the pineapple smoothie served in a whole pineapple was a nice touch. Portions were generous, and for five people the value per person was excellent. Friendly service and a very enjoyable overall experience. Would definitely come back.
Hands down the best Vietnamese seafood spot in town! I’ve been here many times and have never had a bad dish—zero 'landmines' on the menu. The seafood is prepped so well; it’s incredibly clean with absolutely no sand. Also, don't sleep on their drinks and desserts! The pineapple and coconut smoothies are refreshing and delicious. Service is surprisingly fast too. They have two locations, and I’ve tried both—the quality and taste are consistently amazing at both spots. A must-visit every time I’m in LA!
First time here and definitely one of the best Vietnamese restaurants I ever been to in California. Everything is tasty and exactly how I like my Vietnamese food. Grew up in Vietnam and I can say this is even better than most restaurants in Vietnam. Staffs are great and no rude service like elsewhere. They even served dessert for free end of meal. Phở áp chảo is my favorite dish.
I had a great experience at Ốc & Lẩu in Garden Grove. Their sturgeon hot pot was especially delicious — rich, fresh, and full of flavor. The staff were friendly and the atmosphere felt warm and inviting. I really enjoyed my meal and hope to come back again soon. Definitely a spot worth trying if you love hot pot!
This is the review of the Garden Grove Blvd location. Seafood, especially sea snails and hotpot sets are their specialty. Actually their menu is quite expansive and varied. They are serving fresh and clean seafood ingredients with tasty Asian sauces. If you enjoy seafood prepared in authentic Thai or Vietnamese styles, this is the place. Service is a bit rushed when it appears that you are almost done with your meal. At times there are people waiting for your table so hint hint. All of your party need to be present for them to give you a table and no reservations are taken. Sometimes in the parking lot there is a nice lady selling tropical Asian fruits from back of her white SUV.
This is a great place for anyone wanting to try tasty Vietnamese style escargot without breaking your bank! Got lucky and came right before the dinner rush, so there was no wait. There was a line of people waiting outside the door by the time we finished our dinner. I tried the escargot with butter and peppercorn, and it was delicious! The escargot easily came out and the meat was soft and buttery and hint of spiciness. I also tried their grilled clams with butter. The meat is a bit chewier but still really good. As a fan of escargot and mollusks, it’s a great restaurant for me!
Recommended! ! ! My Vietnamese coworker brought us here and we all love it. It’s so worth to drive 2 hours and wait in line for 45 mins. The foods are so good. OMG-^- Best seafood ever, very fresh and no smell at all. Combination of the leaves, fried onion and peanut with the shells is such a perfection. Will definitely come again.
Local friends took us here. Best Vietnamese food we ever had in the US. Not a pho but Vietnamese seafood and hot pot. Price is very reasonable for what you got. Every single dish we ordered was delicious and freshly cooked. Pineapple fried rice. Lobster udon. Mango salad. Escargot. Stir fried conch with Asian water crest. Scallops. Froglegs. Hotpot with beef, pork belly, conch, vegetables and noodles.
Heard about this place through a friend, after read many good reviews on this place so definitely had to give it a try when we were around Disneyland. Since we were so happy with the food, we went back the second time next day! We have six of us, tried the lobster fried with udon, live prawn (huge, sweet, with fresh coconut), mango salad, shrimp squid pineapple salad, grilled oysters, sashimi oysters (small type which I like) and grilled scallops, grilled escargot, steamed queen clams, crab shrimp fried rice, crab fried thin rice noodle, stir fry water spanich w/garlic. Amazingly, all were good, very delicious, fresh and full of flavour. Tried 2 kinds of drinks, passion fruit soda, mango lemonade, we asked for a jug, filled 6 glasses exactly. Love both drinks. We went before lunch time, no wait. When we finished it was mostly full. Highly recommend and would return back every chance I get.
The food was amazing but the service could be better. Crab fried rice, lobster udon, lychee lemonade is my absolute must every time! Seabass hotpot was way too sweet... it is definitely missing the sour taste. The fish was not as fresh as it looks. It was previously frozen and it was just not good at all.
The food here is delicious! Authentic Vietnamese style seafood with a variety of stir fry, sizzling plate, and hot pot (which is what they're known for). The seafood hotpot was a great deal and the seafood was fresh! The king scallops are also a must try item. Savory yet fresh, with a balanced mix of tangy and sweet flavors. I'd definitely visit this place again. We went on a Monday night so there was no wait.
I can't find a reason to give lower than 5 stars. It's a great compact seafood restaurant. The wait time during peak hour is around 30 to t0 minutes. Regular time is 5 to 10 minutes. Prices are competitive. Food tastes great. I love the seasonal big shrimps thay only come a couple of times in within the year. Service is fast and staffs are friendly. Worth a long drive from Alhambra.
My sister took my 2 daughters and I here, I'm a first timer, but have heard many good things about it. We had the grilled shrimp, mango squid salad, clams and scallops. Eveything was great, and I don't like squid but my sister insisted it was really good and she wasn't lying! We signed in on the yelp waitlist I took my daughter to the restroom and our table was ready before we came out. The lychee martini was great as well and I loved the complimentary che they gave at the end of the meal. Will be coming again. Thank you !!
I went there during Tết, and it was extremely busy, it took us 2 hours waiting in the yelp line, so don't come during the holiday if you can. However, the food was amazing, the soft shell Krabs, coconut snails, and snail salad. Every dish has amazing flavor, heavy coconut flavor on the snails. They even gave free desserts for the new year which was nice. I will come back for sure to try some of their other dishes.
Who needs bottomless mimosas for brunch when you can have some fancy coconut escargots? I grew up eating escargots in Vietnam, so when the opportunity to eat them again in the US came up, I was the first to sign up. Came here on a Saturday brunch hour, and it was a crowded wait. It took us around 45 minutes from waiting to seated. They didn't have a lot of waiting chairs either, so it was difficult for my older parents. Once you’re seated, you’ll get served pretty quickly. The waiters are nice and fun; they even made a few jokes with my mom. We ordered a feast for the family and I’ll break down the dishes. * Coconut escargots with basil leaves - escargots drenched in coconut sauce, it’s decadent and juicy. Make sure you suck all the meat out. * Mango salad - tangy green mangos mixed with fried shallots, peanuts, herbs, and mixed in a fish sauce dressing. It’s a fun delight on a hot summer day. * Seafood hotpot - Just as the name suggests. Comes with various seafood topics such as shrimp, fish, etc, and a large pot of soup. Highly recommend any hot pot as they are good value and perfect for large parties. * Crab glass noodles - not sure why, but this place has delicious stir-fry noodles, the added crab is a nice bonus. * Grill escargots with garlic butter - chewy and buttery. Very easy to eat with the picks they provided. Their butter is nicely flavored without being so fattening. Oc & Lau is always going to be crowded no matter what time you visit. That’s how you know it’s good food. They have so many dishes that I haven’t even tried them all; now it’s a must-revisit for my family and me.
Our mom's favorite restaurant! 🦪💗 The quality of every dish is amazing and they offer a variety of options to choose from! Everything is super tasty and delicious, but I recommend the Vietnamese salads, escargots, and rice dishes. * Ốc Hến Bánh Đa: 9/10 - nicely seasoned and comes with rice sesame crackers * Chem Chép Nướng Mỡ Hành: 8/10 - kind of difficult to chew and barely had any siracha * Gỏi Xoài Mực Một Nắng: 10/10 - tartness from the mangos balances out with the sauce and squid * Gỏi Ngó Sen Hải Sản: 7/10 - good for those that don't like tart * Cơm Chiên Tôm Cua: 10/10 - full of crab and shrimp * Bơ Dằm Sầu Riêng: 10/10 - yummy combination They remodeled ever since we first came and the place seems a lot more spacious. The workers were very attentive and we didn't have to wait too long for our food to arrive. The plaza can get crowded at dinnertime, but you should be fine during brunch hours. One thing to keep in mind about the place is that it's a bit pricier compared to other locations, but nothing too crazy. Considering the quality of the food and service, it's definitely worth it! Highly recommend stopping by!
This place satisfies all your seafood cravings. We had 6 girls and no reservation on a Tuesday night. The wait wasn’t long, the service friendly and fast. My favorites were the quail (so crispy), the blood clams (so tasty), the morning glory beef salad (so crunchy and light). The prawns were really good (so good even if you don’t like prawn.) The snail in coconut were impossible to suck out of their shells, so that was disappointing. The scallop appetizer was fine. The oysters in butter were a bit heavy. The company was the best!
Oc & Lau Restaurant offers a diverse selection of seafood that's hard to find in Canada and the US. They also have many hot pot options; I tried the sturgeon hotpot, and it was fantastic. However, it seemed like they used a bit too much fried onion in some dishes. The restaurant is spacious, with friendly staff, and the prices are reasonable. It's definitely a place I'd revisit on my next trip.
We came based on a video recommendations from Instagram. Taste of the food was definitely impressive. This is a food heaven for seafood lover. Me and my mum ordered the razor clam with green onion ($15)highly recommend but it has peanuts on it just in case you allergy, grilled abalone with green sauce ($10/piece, min order 2), and the best was the house special crab with glass noodle. ($50), they were all so good and it is worth the splurge.
Our new favorite seafood spot. The seafood is especially fresh and cooked perfectly tender. The portions are great and the prices super reasonable. Must get items: razor clams (peppercorn and peanuts) and quail (sweet and fried to perfection, tender yet crunchy bones). Service was fast, knowledgeable, and cordial. The atmosphere was very welcoming.
Okay, this is the must try restaurant!!! We visited twice during our 5 days trip to Socal and ordered bunch of different dishes to try. Here is our must try : SEABASS HOTPOT. So good!!! I don’t recommend Chili Crab, if you’re craving for crab, do tamarin or butter sauce!! Most dishes we ordered are well seasoned and flavourful but if you’re picky and only want fresh seafood stick with squid, prawn, not snails. But again must try Seabass Hotpot!! Soup is outstanding and the fish was soo good!
I finally made it to OC & Lau, one of Southern California's hottest Vietnamese seafood restaurants. With the main location in Garden Grove and a second branch in Westminster, both are just a short drive from my place, yet I had never stopped in—until June 2024. A word of advice: avoid peak dining hours unless you want to wait in a long line! Our orders were as follows. - **Grilled King Scallops with Fish Eggs** - $25 - **Lobster Tail with Udon** - $22 - **Deep-Fried Quail with House Special Sauce** - $17 The food came out super fast, and the service was warm and friendly. The Lobster Tail with Udon was outstanding and juicy, and the grilled scallops were impressively large. The deep-fried quail tasted similar to fried chicken but with slightly thinner meat. Overall, the dishes were fresh, delicious, and reasonably priced. We will come back. 📍 **OC & Lau 1** 10130 Garden Grove Blvd, Garden Grove, CA 92843
Efficient service. The food was exceptional! I'm a fan of their garlic butter with peppercorn razor clams. Their flavors are outstanding! However, the lack of taste after consuming peppercorn for razor clam's garlic butter is noticeable. Recommend the peppercorn flavor if you appreciate spice and robust flavors. Pineapple fried rice paired well with seafood inside. Udon with shaken beef is another great option. For beverages, we opted for the kumquat with coconut, which is refreshing. The prices are moderate but medium in size.
The dishes were excellent. The shrimp/squid fried rice was my favorite here so flavorful. The fish for the hot pot was really good as well it would melt in your mouth. Soup was salty than i would like. We did family style with a party of 10. Only bad part was the bathroom was out of order when we went. 4.8 stars
Great spot in the OC if you like seafood! We ordered: Goi xoai dac biet So diep thai thuong hoang Com chien crawfish Com chay bo cang Oc huong nuong tieu I enjoyed the mango salad the most. It was fresh, sweet, slightly spicy and I really enjoyed the pieces of seafood. The crawfish fried rice was very flavorful and filled with crawfish. I also enjoyed the ground beef with crispy rice but it was slightly too oily for my liking.
Waited almost 2 hours for this restaurant as I got recommended this place by so many people! Defiantly try to do the online yelp waitlist to avoid standing outside and waiting. (We did that for the first hour and got called back when we were close to the top but ended up waiting another hour outside). Service was really fast and servers were really nice. Super busy and crowded though but food was worth the wait! My favourites were the passion fruit soda, coconut snails, and young coconut salad!!
One of my favorite seafood places in Orange County. I always stop by this restaurant whenever I’m in the area and never disappointed. The seafood was fresh and was well-seasoned. Make sure to check their waitlist on Yelp before you make a visit since wait time might be long during peak hours.
Highly recommended their escargot and razor clams! The texture was chewy, tender and full of flavours! Tiger Prawn with glass noodle was amazing as well! The variety of dishes on the menu was overwhelming, so it’ll be best to go with 4-6 people to take full advantage and try their selection of fresh seafood!
I love sea snails, clams, and all other seafood in general. The food is so good here, taste just like when I had them in VN. The clam and snail are bigger size and plum; luckily I didn't get a single bad one. My friend doesn't eat seafood in general, so he got the Shaken Beef Noodles and Crab eggrolls, and he really like them too. Very fast service though. Would absolutely come back here next time in Cali.
A MUST TRY! ⭐️ Oc & Lau was our FAVOURITE food spot when we visited LA. The restaurant is incredibly clean (especially the bathrooms), the service is quick, and all the food was TO DIE FOR! We had a tough time ordering because we wanted to try everything on the menu. We settled on our servers recommendations and couldn’t have been happier. You cannot go wrong with any of their food items - everything was DELICIOUS!
The Vietnamese seafood is stellar here! Definitely unapologetic Vietnamese food at its finest which can be intimidating to those not familiar. It’s always busy so best times to go are not the weekends. Large open space too so they can hold a pretty large group. We went on a Monday night and were able to get a table with no wait. The service here is pretty standard and I found our host to be very helpful. Definitely get their Coconut Snails with Basil Leaves! They precut them so all you got to do is suck and enjoy. The flavors are subtle and soooo aromatic and tropical. Also, their Crawfish Fried Rice is the best fried rice I have ever had so far. Out of all the fried rices that I have eaten, theirs is on another level! Parking can be a bit difficult since it’s a busy plaza too. Also, hit up the Bake & Che dessert spot in the same plaza!
Oc & Lau (10130 Garden Grove Blvd, Garden Grove) is the kind of Vietnamese restaurant that reminds you why certain places become “the spot” for families, late-night hangs, and anyone who actually loves bold, balanced flavors. This is not watered-down fusion—this is real Vietnamese comfort food with range: bright salads, smoky grilled seafood, aromatic hot pots, and those chaotic-in-the-best-way platters that make the whole table lean in. First, the goi-style salad is a straight-up banger. It comes piled high on crispy prawn crackers like a trophy: julienned cucumber and herbs, crunchy fried shallots/garlic, and glossy slices of seafood (squid/cuttlefish) tossed in a savory-tangy dressing. Every bite hits multiple textures at once—crisp, chewy, crunchy, and juicy—and the prawn cracker base is genius because it turns into both utensil and snack. This dish alone sets the tone: fresh, punchy, and unapologetically flavorful. Then we moved into the “seafood flex” part of the meal. The grilled prawns on skewers are exactly what you want—big, meaty, and kissed with char. They’re brushed with a buttery, slightly sweet-savory glaze and served with a bright orange dipping sauce that brings heat and tang. Peel one, dip, bite, and you get that perfect combination of smoke, sweetness, and briny shrimp flavor. The fried rice is another must. You can tell it’s cooked with real wok heat—separate grains, not mushy, with egg worked through and generous seafood (shrimp on top + plenty inside). The crispy bits and fried garlic/shallot on top add that extra layer of aroma that makes you keep going back for “one more spoonful,” even when you swear you’re full. It’s rich, satisfying, and built to pair with everything else on the table. Now the soul of the meal: the clams hot pot (lẩu nghêu) served in the black stone bowl. This is where Oc & Lau earns the name. The broth is herbal and fragrant—lemongrass, chilies, and fresh herbs floating on top—spicy but not reckless, with that seafood sweetness from the clams. It comes bubbling and steaming, and the aroma alone is worth the trip. The clams are plump and fresh, and the broth tastes layered, not flat. It’s the kind of dish that forces you to slow down because every sip keeps changing: first you get herb, then brine, then a little chili kick that warms the back of your throat. We also had the sizzling shellfish platter on cast iron, loaded with fried garlic/shallots and fresh herbs. It arrives smoking like a movie scene. The shellfish soak up the sauce and aromatics, so you’re getting buttery richness, sweet seafood, and that crunchy fried garlic texture all at once. It’s messy in the best way—hands-on, shareable, and absolutely designed for eating with rice or extra bread/crackers. Whole fried fish — It comes out golden and crisp, presented like a centerpiece on a bed of greens. The skin is crackly, the meat stays tender, and it’s one of those “everyone at the table suddenly wants a bite” dishes. A whole fish done right is never subtle, and this one hits with that clean, savory fry and satisfying texture. Grilled snails — Served sizzling on a hot cast iron plate with Vietnamese herbs, these are for people who like their food adventurous and deeply flavorful. They’re aromatic, garlicky, smoky, and ridiculously fun to eat. It’s exactly the kind of dish that makes Oc & Lau feel like a true Little Saigon experience: bold, fragrant, and meant for sharing. Service deserves a shout-out too. For a place that’s often packed, the staff keeps things moving. Orders come out in a steady, well-timed flow (hot dishes arrive hot, soups arrive steaming), waters and extra bowls get replenished without you having to chase anyone down, and the team is efficient about clearing plates so your table doesn’t turn into a dish Jenga tower. If you ask questions or want recommendations—especially if you’re new to hot pot or certain seafood items—they’re helpful and direct. It’s busy, lively service, but it feels organized, not chaotic.
Had a fantastic experience! The drinks were good, offering a refreshing start to the meal. The menu boasts a selection of amazing food, but the highlight for me was the oxtail hotpot. It was simply amazing! The rich, flavorful broth and tender oxtail made for a memorable dining experience. Highly recommend this place for anyone looking to enjoy a great meal with excellent drinks.
My wife and I have come here dozens of times. It is her absolute favorite Oc restaurant in the world actually. We lived in Vietnam but prefer Oc and Lau in Orange County.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Family dinner at OC Lau We went there as a group of 12 for a family dinner. My family was very satisfied overall — all the dishes were really good and fresh. The only thing we hope can be improved is that the oysters and one type of clam felt a bit overcooked. Other than that, everything was delicious and we’d love to come back!
This restaurant has always been one of our family's favorite spots to go during special occasions since the price is a bit higher than typical restaurants, but the food is definitely good! Seafood is very fresh. This time we wanted to try new stuff so we ordered Scallop grilled with quail eggs and Oyster grilled with cheese and I would not recommend them. My family do not like them at all as they are a bit fatty and the flavor was kind of plain. Service is good but since they are too crowded, sometimes it's hard to grab someone to help. This time the foods were not as good as usual. The fried rice was a bit salty. The waiting was a bit long too since it was the weekend and during lunch time. Parking spots can be tough to find during busy hours as well. Overall, still recommend trying if you are not from OC.
Super popular Vietnamese seafood offering a plethora of options. Popular choices include razor clams, oysters, snails, lobster and Vietnamese hot pot. It’s a hectic and busy environment and the food comes out fast and furious. Table ware is casual with plastic bins collecting shells and paper cups housing flavored pepper salt and limes. We enjoyed all the flavors and particularly liked the snails and oysters. The crab fried rice was very good and a good non-seafood item was the quail. The lobster isn’t quite the level of Newport Lobster but it’s solid. Prices are reasonable given the high level of competition in this area and we ate well with the lobster being the priciest options. Dining is indoor only and credit cards are accepted. There are no reservations and lines form outside during the popular dinner hours (6-7 PM).
When I visit OC, many of my friends were raving about this restaurant, I'm not crazy about snails and stuff, but my brother insisted that I have to try, so we did. He ate here a few times. OK this place is a trendy place for young people, it's in a big food center in Garden Grove. Most of the plates are under $20 and the portions are small, real appetizers. Most of people ordered the lau which is a bowl of soup and you dip whatever you want to order in it. I didn't like any of the VN lau so we didn't order. Most of young people having dates going here to be trendy. The food is actually excellent and the services are very attentive and quick. The only plate I think it's totally over priced is the 4 scallops for $27. They're not even out of ordinary. The snails in tamarine sauce is quite tasty, you can eat with rice and it's excellent. The finger snails are hot and tasty too, nothing to complain there just only a few fingers. The octopus salad was ok, the meats are very chewy, I wouldn't order this. The snails in garlic sauce which I think it's amazing. The fried rice is good, nothing to rave about. So, there are quite a few oc & lau in the bay and the foods are excellent too, but after everything is done, you only had a few snails and shrimps as appetizers. It's ok to try it once but not crazy to be here over and over again since I'm not crazy about snails and stuff LOL. I want real food.
Very long wait to get in, I would recommend joining the Yelp waitlist asap, which is within 15 miles. The food, for seafood, is well priced as it is only slightly above market price. The food also comes really fast after ordering, so that's a big plus, considering it's a really busy big restaurant. It is really noisy inside though.
First of all, the menu was poorly designed. The text was difficult to read, and when there was a picture, only the Vietnamese name was written next to it, so you couldn't tell what the dish was. The seafood was cooked in similar way, either grilled or raw, so they pretty much tasted the same with the same spice. I was looking for something steamed or in a soup since it was a cold day, and I ordered the snails in some thick coconut broth. The broth was so thick that I couldn't drink it. The other food was okay but not good enough for me to want to visit again. The highlight of the meal was the free dessert they gave after the meal.
Pros: 1. Bomb king scallop 2. Bomb queen clams 3. Delicious mango squid escargot salad 4. Fast service 5. Top 40 music 6. Orange cham sauce is yummy! 7. Complimentary taro che dessert Cons: 1. Scallop with cheese was meh - don’t order 2. Salted fish fried rice barely had salted fish 3. Smelled like Raid ant spray in the tent, and I still got bug bites on my ankles Pro tip: Get on the Yelp waitlist while you drive there. Some folks waited 1.5+ hours. We waited 15 minutes.
Excellent food, seated and served promptly, great customer service. There is even complimentary dessert. Reason of missing one star is they use disposable plastic cups hence not green for the earth. They can do better in sustainability given such an extensive business operation.
Every dish we have tried has been good. Crispy noodles withj veggies and beef-amazing Hot pot Thai with seafood-amazing flavors. Fried rice -good Shaken beef rice amazing Passion fruit drink-amazing Fish spring rolls-good. A large menu variety especially seafood. Service is always good, just a long wait. Price is good for what you get.
Drove up to Orange County from San Diego and I think it was well worth trying a Place from the homeland. Food was well prepared and flavored. I recommend getting the coconut escargot and the razor clam with pork belly. Scallops are a bit small for the size but still something good to try. It’s honestly affordable, and we got a lot of food out of it.
The food here is delicious, and the service is attentive and fast. The restaurant serves dishes very quickly, which makes the dining experience very convenient. However, today I noticed that the scallops weren’t very fresh. Overall, still a great place to enjoy tasty food with efficient service.
I had the opportunity to dine at OC & Lau Saturday night. It came highly recommended to me by a few friends. I’m a huge seafood fan and of Asian cuisine. The restaurant is lively, staff is friendly. The smells of fresh food coming from the kitchen makes you even more hungry. The staff answered all of my questions about each of the menu items that I wanted to try. We started off the evening with an Asahi beer and a mixed drink. The first item we ordered was the quail. Well marinated and tender, it hit the spot. Next up were the grilled garlic butter oysters. Please because when they come out because they are oven hot hot. The oysters were so fresh and tasteful. Next up were the grilled scallops. Boy oh boy were these delicious. Melt in your mouth. We then decided upon the crabs and shrimp fried rice entrée as well as the filet mignon with udon noodles. By this time you could imagine we were close to food coma. However we powered through and enjoyed most of our entrées. They fried rice was delicious packed with flavor and since it was my first time here I had no idea this was a family size serving so of course I had some to take home. The filet mignon and udon was awesome. The filet mignon was so tender lots of flavor and a delicious meal. I will definitely be coming back to try other items on the menu. As I was sitting there waiting for my food, I saw so many different dishes coming out of the kitchen. I wanted to try each of them so next time I will definitely be trying new items on the menu.
Everything that we ate was solid and enjoyable. However it took a long time for us to get our food and the restaurant gets extremely loud especially in the evening. The waitresses are good, but don’t let them nudge you into getting the coconut kumquat! It was $27 for the pitcher and wasn’t even enough to give everyone in my party (4 people) a cup of it.
I came here on a weekday afternoon around lunch time and it's nice that it was not overly busy. I would highly recommend the king scallops here. The sea bass hotpot while pricey you do get a lot of sea bass, but it does take a bit of time to cook in the semi-sweet, sour and slightly tangy broth. Don't sleep on those cocktails $8 for a tasty martini from 10am to 6pm is a great time to get buzzed. The coconut snail dish is very tasty especially with rice or bread, but the snails might have a bit of sand inside so be careful. The crab fried rice with shrimp was a great carb to eat the seafood feast with. I would come back again for other seafood dishes.
This place is always busy. Doesn't matter what time or day. Advice: Add yourself to the Yelp waitlist prior to arrival and check in at the door. It's usually pretty loud in there between the music, conversations, and banging of plates, silverware, etc. The service is a hit or miss. In general, they're quick but once the food are delivered to the table, the server may be hard to flag down. I'm assuming they all work together though, because you can probably just flag down any server when you need something. Food. They specialize in seafood dishes like escargot but also have hot pots that are also tasty. Our must have are the spicy seasoned grilled squid, house special mango salad and grilled escargot. There's plenty of options to choose from their extensive menu, and most dishes are a hit. Prices may seem high for some but they're worth it. Their nuoc cham and green sauce are also bomb. They also offer complementary che at the end of the meal with the bill. Overall, it's a solid spot for sure.

Most dishes were tasty. Wouldn’t recommend the pineapple smoothie- it looked great but taste was mild. We didn’t like the service at all. When we were given a table, the table was not quite clean or organized. They gave us the check when we were still in the middle of eating. And they kept coming to remove some of the plates but we haven’t even finished the food on there, very annoying.
May 2025: visited again - scallops ($27 for four) were way overcooked, the tiny escargots not good value, very little rice in the pineapple fried rice, soft shell crabs were too saucy, spring rolls were okay, servers were super busy putting food on tables or clearing dishes, had to ask for refills three times and felt we were rushed out of there. The restaurant was too busy and noisy to enjoy the food. Probably won’t return. 2024: Food is excellent and great value. Atmosphere is not relaxing at all bc the restaurant is very busy so the servers are constantly on the move to keep tables turned over for next party so not much service. I saw a party of 7 got seated at a 4 person booth. There’s always a long wait for tables.
I am not Vietnamese, so I cannot vouch for authenticity. But I do have taste buds and will say that the food was below mediocre. We ordered a wide variety of food: shrimp and crab fried rice, escargot, snails in coconut milk, shrimp on skewers, and some more. The food was alright. The shrimp tasted powdery and was most definitely stale. I could taste the gasoline from their burner on the shrimp. The coconut milk/soup was so sweet! The service was fantastic and the prices and portions were great.
Oc & Lau was mediocre. The place seems to always be packed but I had reservations so we didn't have to wait. Is the hype real? Not really. \n\nFood was OK, setting was uncomfortable (couldn't enjoy…
Overrated food in here. Their serve is bad, very rude attitude of the girl who took my order. I order the KING SCALLOPS but they gave me the size of regular one and confirm this is correct. Totally not the same with whatever I watch from Youtube review. Mango salad is bad, its actually the worst salad I have eaten in my life. “Rang Muc” was salty. Will not recommend or come back to this place
It’s always busy, but the quality and flavor have gone downhill a lot. I went for dinner on July 4th and ordered six dishes, none of them met expectations. One was too sweet, another had no flavor, and one was too dry. It’s really disappointing because I used to think this was the best place to get snails. But every time I come back, the flavors are inconsistent, and I leave less satisfied. Sad to see a place I liked decline like this.
Overpriced with Small Portions! Oc & Lau has really lost its touch. Portions have shrunk while prices keep climbing ($18-$20) for tiny dishes. The fried calamari was bland, the snails lacked flavor, and the crispy fried fish wasn’t crispy at all. The pan-fried noodles were a complete disappointment, and the rushed service only made things worse. Honestly, I wish I had gone to Bien Hen instead — much more reasonably priced and with better service.
Our family travels to LA twice a year and this is one of our favourite spots. Sad to say, this place has lost its touch. We visited Oc & Lau last week and it was one of the worst experience we've ever had while dining out. After eating here this time, we have decided never to come back. The portions were extremely small, prices went up and the service is absolutely horrible. The servers are have no intentions to serve you, when you ask for something, they'll pretend they dont see your hand and walk the other way. The worst part was, they charged us $5 for a small tea pot and when we asked for a refill at the end of our meal, they came back with cold water in the pot. This is not the place to go to if you want to have a nice sit down dinner and enjoy the food with company. We ended up spending $150+ for 3 people just for a few dishes and we weren't even full at the end of our meal. For this price point, there are many other good options in OC with similar options.
The one star is for the customer service. We got a table after 1.5hrs of waiting. Not a big deal. We ordered 9 dishes and a sea bass hot pot. 30 mins into eating, we were met with constant clean-ups by the staff. As if they were trying to rush us out of the table. There were tables seated before us and only had one or two dishes on their tables but they were left alone. Very disappointed. Don't come here if you go with your senior family members and/or friends.
This place has been on my bookmark for a very long time. Since it has a high reputation so we looked forward trying it. I seldom write a review but it was such an experience so I would like to let everyonce know and what to expect. It was our first time to be there. Of course we are not familiar with the menu. So we asked the server what the "House special" lobster is.. What kind of flavor? Can you describe it? The staff was like: I don't know.. Then we asked is it sweet or salty... He said I don't know... Since the House Special sauce is all over the menu on every single dish... isn't it the basic knowledge? You work here but you don't know... Then during the dinner... it was the worst service we ever had. We ordered a full table of food. The scallops was heavily marinated with baking soda, tasted weird. The house special lobster the sauce also tasted funky... maybe that's the reason why the server didn't know how to explaine it. Overall the food was like 6/10.. I'd recommend Newport seafood more. It's not worth the hype and the wait. But the main thing I wanted to talk about is their service. We know that they were busy and wanted to flip the table. We only sat there for 30 mins.. then they kept checking on us every 5 mins. It was really annoying. We repeating to tell them that we were still working on it. But they kept constantly asking. They even asked us if we want dessert when we are still half way through our dishes. Later on, instead on asking, they kept bugging us with adding water to our cups, they put the trash bowl on one of our dishes which we still have shrimp on it. In conclusion, it was a very bad dine in experience. Food was overrated. The service... couldn't even call it service. So no next time. Thank you.
