I did not have a reservation, but the staff were very pleased to seat me. I orderd the main meal which was the lampchops with lemon potatoes. Thier was 5 lamb chops and they were infused with herbs and perfectly cooked, and the lemon potatoes went so well with the lamb. And to be honest it's was very cheap at £17.50 All in all outstanding food and great service from the staff and Alexandra was really nice..thank you..
One of my favourite dining establishments and maybe the best Greek in Glasgow. Terrific food, reasonable prices, and excellent service. Worth booking.
How tender is the lamb here? Just take a look at the photo I’m sharing—it practically melts off the bone! Everything we tried was incredible, from the creamy tzatziki to the perfectly grilled halloumi and, of course, the show-stopping lamb. The staff made our experience even better—they welcomed us in late and never once made us feel rushed. In fact, the waiter even said, “You can stay longer if you like!”—and this was at closing time. Warm, friendly, and genuinely accommodating, with quick and professional service. Honestly, I can’t recommend this place enough!
This restaurant reminds me an excellent Greek food in Greece. I love the food a lot and it was as delicious and high quality as in Greece. During my stay in Glasgow, I came twice for dinner. I wish I can come back again in the future. Thanks for a very friendly service.
It is a great place to have traditional Greek food. I've been there many times, and every time I was happy with the quality of the food (both taste and dish size), the service and the overall atmosphere (including the music that is Greek!). The quality of the above has been consistent all this time, and so it is an easy 5-star from me.
Staff amazing. Food absolutely 💯 😋 amazing. I'll be back ASAP. Great gluten free options and we'll explained. No issues with gf.
Always in search of authentic Greek food and so often disappointed but not this time with Elia. We only stopped for a very light bite and shared a chicken souvlaki, Greek salad and saganaki, of which all were really tasty. Great location especially when the sun is shining as out door dining offers a nice view of George’s Square.
Always worth a stop by here. Good portions and pretty tasty.
I recently visited Elia Greek restaurant located in the heart of Glasgow city centre, overlooking the beautiful George Square. The location is easy to find and offers a lovely view, adding to the charm of the experience. The atmosphere inside was calming and relaxing, and it wasn’t very crowded when we went for lunch, which made it even more enjoyable. The food was absolutely delicious and full of authentic flavors. As a nice touch, they brought us some complimentary snacks before our meal, which we really appreciated. The service was great, and the overall experience was fantastic. I’ll definitely be going back, and I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a Greek cuisine in Glasgow!"
We have been here a few times and as usual the food was amazing. We had Dakos for starters, Beef Stifado and Soufitos which was beef medallions with a lemon and garlic sauce, oven baked potatoes and vegetables with a bottle of Pinot Grigio. Excellent service and value for money .
We dined here today for lunch and we’re so glad that we picked Elia! Location is very central and is opposite the Christmas Market on George Square. We had a friendly greeting and were seated straight away even though the restaurant was busy. We opted for the Meze for Two which consisted of starters, mains, desert and coffee all for £58. The dishes were all chefs choice apart from the desert which we could choose. We enjoyed every single dish and got to try things that we may never have ordered. Great service from the waiting staff too. Overall very happy with our visit and will come back.
Loved eating here, a slightly hidden gem just of George Square, beats going to wetherspoons next door, good portions, tasty hummus, and vegetarian dishes, friendly service and reasonably priced too
Best lamb shank in Glasgow!!the food is delicious and big portion. It is in Geroge square and easy to find. The waiter and waitress are very friendly and nice. Highly w!!
Delicious food, good service, central location. Service not included so if you want to leave a tip you need cash or a physical card rather than Apple Pay.
First time visit with friends to this excellent greek restaurant in the heart of George Sq close to Queen St.Rail Station at the opposite end from Glasgow City Chambers.Huge menu for both food and drinks.Daily specials board.Old fashioned traditional Taverna atmosphere.Staff were really friendly and helpful with menu explanations.Presentation and quality of food were both excellent. A very satisfying dining experience in traditional greek style.Thoroughly Recommended.😊Tues 11th june. Return visit. Food and service as excellent as ever.👍
Great food and service. We ordered Taramosala (sea food dip) starter and Mousaka )traditional greek fav), grilled chicken for main course. Portion sizes were big enough to satisfy us. Will def visit again whenever we are back.
You can smell the delicious food before entering the restaurant! We tried the lunch menu which have a good amount of options already. The dolma is really tasty, so are the tzatziki with pita bread. I had the lamb souvlaki and its sooo tender, cooked literally to perfection, the portion size is pretty big, thoroughly enjoyed that. My friend ordered the Smyrneika, the meatballs are nice but a bit salty, the sauce is amazing tho. The service is great, they had a large menu and plenty seatings, will definitely come back to try more food! Highly recommend this place!
The staff were very courteous. We enjoyed our two course lunch offer and good coffee.
Our group of eight friends left Eliá totally satisfied. Great service, a pleasant atmosphere and delicious food made for a totally enjoyable dinner. The pastitsio, soufrito, kleftiko and spanakopita were all very good and the portions were ample. We all highly recommend checking out this restaurant.
This place was really good, very friendly service. good quality food, was really good, the appetizer i had in the photo “don’t remember the name” it was smoked aubergine, the taste was yummy, i have tried the Lebanese version, the Turkish, nothing beat this one. really delicious, if i go glasgow again i will definitely go there again. Thank you for the experience
Fantastic food, friendly service and a lovely atmosphere. We’ve been multiple times and will definitely be back.
Love this vibrant place, beautiful food, great service, definitely one to visit again! The noise level was perfect mixing lively but still able to chat comfortably
Brilliant staff and wonderful food. I thought I had reserved a table but it hadn't worked. The staff were really friendly and fitted us in anyway. Great atmosphere and very friendly and attentive staff.
A lovely, dog friendly restaurant with a varied menu to suit many tastes. The house wine was lovely as were the meals. We dined very early, so it was fairly quiet and we were lucky to get so much attention from the staff .... especially our dog who was made a real fuss of. The food was well cooked and just what we expected with good portions. My wife's vegetarian meal looked wonderful and she said it tasted really good. We would certainly go there again.
I popped into Elia’s for a quick dinner after a long day at work, and it turned out to be an absolute treat. For my starter, I went with the tzatziki and pita bread. The creamy Greek yogurt mixed with fresh grated cucumber, dill, and garlic was perfect - refreshing, flavorful, and exactly what I needed to ease into the meal. My main course was the standout: kleftiko. The slow-cooked lamb on the bone, served in a rich tomato sauce with lemon potatoes and a small fresh salad, was heavenly. The meat literally fell off the bone - aromatic, tender, and incredibly juicy. Honestly, it was the best lamb I’ve ever had. For dessert, I indulged in baklava. Layers of flaky phyllo, spiced walnuts, and sweet honey syrup with hints of cinnamon, lemon, and orange… OMG. Absolutely delicious. I also want to highlight the excellent customer service. Every staff member was kind, friendly, and professional, adding so much warmth to the experience. The restaurant itself has a charming, traditional Greek taverna vibe, complete with catchy Greek music that made the atmosphere even more enjoyable. I can’t wait to return to Elia’s for another amazing meal.
Another delicious lunch. Staff friendly and welcoming, food delicious. Had the 2 courses for £14 but chose the lamb mains which added £2 extra but we'll worth it. The chicken meatball starter was wonderful and if the Greek salad starter was small then anything bigger would be enormous. Lamb souvlaki tender loverly smoky flavour. Lamb casserole equally delicious with lemon flavour. Fantastic value in a great restaurant
We keep returning here - always delicious and great service- prompt without feeling rushed. We enjoyed the starters for two, grilled lamb and moussaka. We look forward to our next visit to feel stuffed and happy again!
It was not far from my hotel. It was a quiet atmosphere. Not many patrons which is curious as the food was delicious I had the lamb with small potatoes, fried calamari and a Greek sangria which was very flavorful. Would highly recommend.
Lovely place with a really relaxed atmosphere. We ordered way too much but enjoyed everything we tried, and couldn’t believe the value for money when we got the bill - we’re already planning our next visit.
Choice on the lunch menu is good value, however chips were a bit soggy. Apart from that everything was great Very friendly staff. I took my dog with me and staff were very good with her, but I had to ask for water and no treats offered 🐾😔. I love however that they accept dogs so will be back.
I booked a table for a birthday dinner at 7pm on a Sunday. We had 5 starters and 4 mains. A bottle of Prosecco to share, two cocktails and a pint. The food is delicious and the table service is excellent. Total bill was £153 excluding a tip. Very good value for quality dining.
The service and food was very good. The lots of options on the menu. Party of 5 and everyone enjoyed the starters and main dishes.
Lovely early dinner when the heavens opened over Glasgow and huddling up in a restaurant was the best plan of action. Nice service and well seasoned chicken souvlaki.
We went for the '4 course to share for 2' which seemed good value. Lots of food, but we didn't like that one of the courses was coffee and this wasn't explained at the start. The food was all very nice, especially the starters with Greek dips and the mousaka was delicious. The service wasn't that great, we were attended by a nice waiter but also a waitress who has rather unfriendly.
Came in for the lunchtime menu. Wasn't too busy around 1.30pm. Service was exceptional. Staff were welcoming, friendly and professional. Food was delicious. We had small Greek salad and garlic bread topped with beetroot salad for starters. There were a bit too many leaves in the Greek salad and not a lot of beetroot in the other. However was still very tasty. For mains we had chicken souvlaki and lamb souvlaki. A wedge of lemon on the plate would have been nice but again still tasty. Chips appeared to be hand cut and were very nice. Chicken was moist and flavoursome. Lunchtime plates are somewhat smaller than off the main menu. Personally I thought the smaller plate was very filling. I took one star off simply because there was no Greek music playing which would have been nice for atmosphere. It may be that they do have this music at other times but wasn't the case today. I would highly recommend and will be back.
This place is an old favourite of ours, (although not been in for about 3 years,) from its large plates of food to its reasonable priced wine. Would have liked the tempura courgettes a wee bit crisper, but they were still very tasty. The Soufrito was excellent as was the Steffado which was enormous, being very tender and absolutely delicous. If you get a window seat, you get the bonus of watching over George Squares passing life. We will be back. Oh yes, forgot to say the garlic bread is amongst the best anywhere.
Beautiful, fresh food. I've been wanting to try here for a while and so glad we finally did. Service was good and we were given complimentary bread, olives and oil, which was nice. My only complaint would be for starters we ordered hummus and tzatziki which came on big plates, we were given 1 pitta between 2 people. I feel for the amount in each starter we could have done with a pitta each. We would definitely return.
The Beef Stafado was Fantastic. Meat was so tender and Reminded me of the ones I had in Greece. Lovely Ice cream for Desert. The service was very quick and Friendly Watresses and staff. Toilets were very clean. And the Restraunt had a nice atmosphere. will Defently be back.
Been to Elia several times now and never been disappointed. Really nice varied menu, very reasonably priced, including the wine list, for a city centre restaurant. Tasty, well prepared food. Also has a lunch time menu.
My first time to try this restaurant. The waiters were respectful and nice. I ordered Dolma: very good Dakos: in the menu it says it's made with dried tomatoes but mine was made with cold fresh ones. I didn't like it that much since the bread underneath became soggy. Lamb and chicken sovlaki: delicious.
We've been here twice before and enjoyed it enough to come back, but this evening was disappointing. Firstly my wife was barged out of the way by two waiters on our way into the restaurant. They seemed to be far more interested in serving drinks on the terrace than the restaurant customers. Our meal was great and food was lovely if a little overpriced, but otherwise just as previous visits. My big issue was when we ordered a desert and coffee...... My wife found it too hot to drink and asked for a little extra milk. We were charged extra for that!!!! The waitress felt that this was unacceptable, but said that the owner had dictated the change should be made. Milk with coffee isn't a chargeable extra! Very disappointed with the focus of the restaurant now, where the drinking terrace is the focus and silly charges are applied for milk in your coffee. We'll be going elsewhere when we're back in Glasgow.
Was a let down this time round, portions were overpriced for what you got,had same meal on lunch menu before so expected a little more for what you are paying, plus staff barely came near and noise level was crazy due to big crowd being very loud, which is a shame cause I really liked in here before
The ratings here are fantastic, and the signs promise customers a “taste of Athens.” The restaurant is pleasant and welcoming. Our expectations were high. We ordered a couple basic Greek dishes. Service was relatively attentive. Drinks were good. But the food disappointed us hugely. Instead of the flavors of Greece, our food had the bland tastelessness of a chicken salad sandwich purchased at a roadside Tesco Express. Presentation was good. Taste was lacking. So sad.
Have wanted to try this place for a while and had an overall okay, not great experience. The staff were friendly and professional. Lovely tzatziki which had plenty of garlic and flavor, mediocre over-toasted pita bread, which wasn’t enough for 4 people. Very uninspiring hummus, lacked flavor (and salt?). Main courses were good; delicious stifado, prawn souvlaki, Soutzoukakia and kleftiko. Drinks that were from a bottle were fine, but irn bru was watered out. Disappointed with that.
To start on the positives: our waiter was very nice, the location and view is brilliant, and there was a wide alcohol selection; however, overall our experience was very poor. Three times I was asked if I wanted drinks when I had already ordered the first time but they had been forgotten, so I had to order them again. The vegetarian mousakka was more like a tasteless vegetable cottage pie, and bizarrely lacking eggplant. When we were paying at the end the manager(?) kept speaking over us and calling out to other staff members which we found really rude. We wouldn't go back.
Service was very good. Lovely staff. Had a very disappointing bland meal. Was meant to be a lamb casserole with lemon but don't think it was lamb. Was like a plate of very plain beef stew with a bit of plain rice. Won't go back based on the food.
Very poor quality food and nothing like the dishes I have been fortunate to taste in Greece. Could definitely make better at home. Staff did try (a bit) to be friendly but they were clearly very unhappy and bored. Place was nearly empty unsurprisingly, but at least the background music was quiet, so we could talk. Prime location, or will be soon. I suspect owners are sitting on the property waiting for a big profit when they sell it .Very disappointing , and I didn't have high expectations. Maybe the staff are unhappy because they are not being paid enough. It's unusual in my experience for service not to be added to the bill so they are probably on minimum wage. Wine was more or less ok for the price; it was a special occasion so got the best one they had. Usual restaurant markup I guess. Won't be going back.
It was awful. Long wait 1hr between tinny starters and main courses. Needed to remind them. Staff were nice but the quality of the food was an insult to the Greek. Calamari were chewey, not fresh. Greek salad w no dressing. The main courses were just for reheating. I really don't understand what took them an hr to serve ? The fried cheese smelled rotten. Too much unexpected herbs in the meatballs and got all rejected by my kids. In fact, they were not hot as if they were recycled from another reject. The waiting staff were too keen to recommend alcohol so as to cover the delay in service and poor quality food. Very disappointed. Will never go again and strongly recommend to avoid. Reply : please understand that if main courses arrived an hr after starter that means my kids have been waiting for 1.5hrs+ for their dinner. The reason why I said the meatballs tasted like recycled is because apparently the spaghetti was hot but when I bit in the meatballs, they were not hot and cold inside. And FYI I have been to Greek and Crete more than twice, even home stayed w Greek family, so I know what home taste is like. Thank you.
Overpriced as they've capitalised themselves due to being the only Greek restaurant in Glasgow. Service is poor, very rude staff talking about people in Greek when they fail to realise the customers can also be fluent. I felt I was panned off when asking to order etc as they decided to serve their Greek customers first before serving others despite having a booking. Rubbish experience and not a patch on Greek food. Won't be back.
Food absolutely rubbish meat uncooked I’ve been with my family and order souvlaki for my boy and my wife and for me beef medallions the meat uncooked and 1 off my pice off ( medallions meat) bad test . After all I’ve paid cash and wait for my change and wait and wait I’ve seen the boy at the till look about in the till look about and look about at the end I’ve decided to leave . The change I’ve waited for is only 2 pounds never mind the 2 pounds if the food been good. Absolutely rubbish bad experience. The food expensive aswell but if never mind if deserved.
